Stan Sakai saw the one shown in this SDCC panel video, and thought, "oh, this is the shot" and "we can do it, this show'll be good". Stan saw the work Khang and his visdev team were doing and recognized that they knew what they were doing. "You and your team of designers have created a whole new world, that is very futuristic, however, as Terry [Kalagian, exec producer, panel host] said, very tradtional. It's a wonderful fusion." (SDCC 2021) He really trusted this team with this new concept behind the show of being about a descendant and in a near-future Edo. Besides leading the visdev team and overlooking the art direction, Khang also drew the comic pages for the EP 1 opening sequence based on Stan Sakai’s style and designs.

The fanfic is about a Duncan in xem (the pronouns in the fanfic) 30s now who, along other old contestants (Courtney and Gwen are two of them) and new ones, is kidnapped to a new reality show hosted by Chris. During this reality show, xe finds a magic necklace, which is obviously important.

I'm going to admit, i actually liked the fanfic and (*GASP*) Gwen and Duncan's relationship in It, but i would've liked It more If, every time Courtney appeared, she wouldn't be treated like a "monster who traumatized Duncan forever and should die painfully 🥺".

Anyway, talking about the necklace, It is obviously searched, so one of these people invades the show with a gun and threatens Duncan and the people with xem, but Duncan DIDN'T give them It, so they actually tried to shoot xem, making a whole mess.

Now, that's my problem with this excerpt: Courtney is, again, treated like an annoying bitch, even though she has ALL the right to Get angry over Duncan.

Otomes I played in 2022

I thought I'd do some quickie reviews of otomes I've played recently such as: Hakuoki, Cupid Parasite, Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, Sweet Fuse, Taisho Alice, Variable Barricade, Theory of Fear, Diabolik Lovers HDB and MB, Birushana, Ikemen Prince, Ikemen Vampire and Ikemen Sengoku.

Whew, I played more than I thought XD remember all this ranting is just my personal opinion.

Aight so Hakuoki:

For the most part I didn't mesh well with this one. The months in game felt pretty drawn out and slow-paced, and I didn't latch onto any of the characters except for the demons. I'm not entirely sure why. I think I just didn't feel like mc belonged there- and that she was way more invested in the Shinsengumi than they were bothered about her. I did enjoy seeing some historical events play out in Hijikata's route, and I liked seeing Kazama show up to wreck shit. Kazama was great, Kazama gave me a few months of brain rot. I did LOVE the music in this game though, dayme it was beautiful, and it goes without saying but the art style of the CGs were gorgeous. I'm glad I played this one because it's seen as a classic but I didn't personally get the hype sadly. I actually watched a playthrough of a fan-translated spin-off game (SSL) and actually PREFERRED it, despite it being just a comedy game. Whats wrong with me?

Best boy: Kazama

Cupid Parasite

I remember having mixed feelings about this one, it was a mixed bag. Pretty ok! I really liked Allan's route and the voice acting was solid. Art style was interesting but it hurt my eyes after a while XD I think for me I just didn't find much of a 'replayability' factor. I enjoyed it fine, but it won't stay with me as one of the special otomes I love, capisce? I just couldn't stand Gil or Ryuki. Raul was fine and Shelby was fine, so overall it was just 'ok' for me.

Best boy: Allan. Really enjoyed Jupiters voice acting tho (from Yangs VA hehe)

Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly

I remember while playing this game my friend hated its art style but man I LOVED playing this one. It felt really unique in terms of atmosphere, with mystery/suspense elements. It took me back to the earlier days of visual novels because I didn't look up a walkthrough for a bunch of this and it led to a lot of frustration and dead ends, but even that was kind of fun to figure out. Loved its twists and turns and bittersweet moments. I also loved having a voiced heroine with Beniyuri (which was one of my first experiences with the feature) and wish more heroines were voiced. Also this one had a BANGING OP, whooo! Reminded me of early 2000's nostalgia cheese, love it.

Sweet Fuse: At your side

Hi um WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS OTOME? Yeah I think its a bit of a lost gem but if you have a PS Vita, I totally rec buying this one. It's such a fun ride, and with a great MC to boot. The Love interests in this game were all very unusual and not typical otome pretty boyz but I really enjoyed the way they were written. The groups chemistry was great as well. The age gap thing might bother some people though so keep that in mind before playing. Anyway, the setting and plot reminded me a little of Danganronpa 2 and I had a real fun time with it.

Taisho x Alice

Hooo boy people were excited for this on the otome subreddit. I sat down to try it and...

Well, I didnt think it was possible for an MC to ruin my game experience but here we are. I couldn't stand this game's heroine. Yes I understand why she was written that way, yes I enjoyed some of the guys and the end reveal was unique and impressive- but was it worth suffering through Yurika? Mn...possibly not. She seems to be somewhat divisive though and if you can stomach her 'memeing' and 'I'm not like OTHER GURLS' energy as she twirls, winks with both eyes and shouts to the world that she's SOOOO Quirky guyz- maybe you'll like this game. Thing is, even putting all...that, aside, I didn't like her attitude with Red by invading his personal space, and a certain thing she did in the last route made me incredibly uncomfortable but of course it was brushed aside bc she's the HEROINE GUYS.

Best boy: Ryoushi and lil gremlin man Alice- actually while I'm here, if you can stomach the MC, Alice's VA had probably the best performance I've heard in an otome. He was hilarious- and had super great range

Variable Barricade

Boy I was super hyped for this one, it was probably my most anticipated game of the year. Great art style, great common route, great voice acting...and then the routes went on. I've noticed people seem to share the same sentiment that they usually enjoy the boys routes but then shit hits the fan and the boy is insensitive, the main heroine is too harsh or dumb- the boy LEAVES, the guy is manipulative- point is, something sours the routes and they're hard to recover from. I really liked Hibari as a heroine at first but as the routes went on I was actively wanting her to NOT be in a relationship, as she demonstrated time and again that she just wasn't ready for one. I ended up selling this game as soon as I was done with it, which I feel sad about, because I really wanted to like VB.

Best boy: Taiga

Theory of Fear

I don't know why I played this game. XD I actually played a couple of 'indie' otomes like Trapped with Jester, Blooming Panic and Boyfriend to Death (the latter I wouldn't uh...call an otome...plus it awakened unpleasant revelations that I might be into some disturbing tropes so THANKS for that game. Never have I been more uncomfortable with being asked if I'd prefer a Hammer or Drill)

Anywho, Theory of Fear isn't discussed much. It's this awkward lil game with Russian voice acting you can find on Steam. Very 'this is someone's first fanfic' vibes, rife with sexual assault around every corner. Every time Yuki showed up I was like - oh boy here we go again. I found Sadaos route quite interesting in some ways though due to his way of 'fear exposure' and quite literally exposing the mc to her worst fears and mingling that with pleasure. I dunno, a twisted concept that made my brain itch in a good way. The game is bad no doubt about it and I don't rec it but I at least took something away from it. I really enjoyed Blooming Panic though and would totally rec that any day.

Best boy: Sadao- look don't you JUDGE ME

Diabolik Lovers HDB and MB

In keeping with this trend of dark romance stuff that shouldn't make my brain go brrr but does is Diabolik Lovers. It's not English Translated but with the first two games in the series now on Switch, I used fan translations to play through the games and had a grand ole time. This franchise is only for people who like trash men ok. These boys are awful in every way and quite frankly you can't defend any of their abuse or actions BUT... it's fiction. And if you enjoy your fav VAs whispering degrading things in your ear, moaning and blood-sucking noises (wear headphones for these games oml) then you'll lurve this series like I do. I found myself enjoying Reiji more than I thought I would and Shuu a little less than anticipated, considering I used to love him in my earlier fandom days. Subaru remains the undisputed champ though.

Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei

This game was aight! Better than Hakuoki in my opinion but I know people will come for my head by saying that lmao. It wasn't a perfect game and holy hell did some battles drag on (hi Benkais route) but it really introduced some unique elements plus the best Rivals/ Enemies to lovers trope I've seen so far in otome with Noritsunes route. I recommend this game just for his route, to be honest. I thought Tomomori would be my favourite but he fell a little short for me.

Best boy: Noritsune and Shigehira

Ongoing- Ikemen Prince, Ikemen Vampire and Ikemen Sengoku

I haven't finished all the routes in these mobile game otomes but yup they're my latest addiction. I'm obsessed.

I think Ikesen is my favourite of the three (I'm not touching Ikerev sorry) because of its writing being stronger in terms of just how fun and lively the world feels. Mc helps in a big way with that, and her chemistry with most of the guys is great to witness. Ikesen's menu layout is defo the worst though and could do with an update.

Ikevamp is aight, I didn't enjoy Comtes route like I thought I would and Leo made me sad but I'm loving Arthurs route, what a good boy. I have no gripes with the layout and the music is cute. I've spent the least amount of money on Ikevamp but still had a great time, which I feel is important if you want to be a free to play player. Also Faust route localisation WHEN?!

Ikepri's layout is the best no contest, everything looks super clean and stylish and the gacha systems are dangerous bc holy hell the cards look so good and pretty. Ikepri has hurt my wallet the most though and I defo feel the most pushed out of all of them to spend money. I think the writing is fine for Ikepri but oddly I enjoy the Events more the Routes themselves?? anyone else feel that way? I like it though, I just need to be stricter on myself not to get sucked into gambling because of it loll

Now, quick thing. Had this earlier and then decided to leave it for the review (put it in my finishing up liveblogging after the show, at the beginning of that last scene).

Also just, serious (as if this all isn't) moment here, I wish I could do my review tonight but it's not gonna happen. Like it shouldn't xd. I wish I could do it with my emotions fresh but my plan from the beginning was to get back into some fluffy stuff after this and I need it. I really miss Asher terribly and it hurts so badly <3. But it's also kind of bringing my own grief into my head and I can't be sitting in that right now. It's a really beautiful episode and despite how many times it made me sob I really did enjoy it xd, and I'm not msd or anything, but it's still true. Obviously it isn't as raw as all this, even though that's feeding into my tears xd, but the kind of more removed and adult part of me is telling me "yeah, you're genuinely feeling this ache extra" and I need to take care of myself. Again, absolutely love the episode, it's just how it is <3.

I'm feeling a little lighter about it now and feeling closer to my original thoughts and intentions but yeah <3.

I promise I'm doing okay like genuinely, past all the show stuff. It may absolutely break my heart but when it comes down to it it's just a show. In life, I am alright <3

I'm gonna try and come back and edit this later (yes I know I ever do but it comforts me lol)! But yeah, amazing episode, those flashbacks destroyed me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this episode! Despite how much it broke me heart lol. But everyone did really well and I'm glad we got to really sit in the grief <3. It hurt xd, but Asher deserves to have people grieving him, and narratively deserves the time taken for it. I'm glad everything turned out as okay as possible with the MCE too <3. Everyone did great :'). And I'm so glad Shaun and Charlie had a good moment!! There's some understanding there now :')).

So yeah! It was an amazing episode, and it absolutely killed me. I'm excited for the next one! This has been my review for. . .

my thoughts on buddie as "toxic shipping"

i recently read a post that discussed "toxic shipping" of mlm ships by straight women and their main/first example was buddie so i wanna talk about that. i won't be linking that post because i don't want people to hate on the op and clog their notes unnecessarily.

However, I do want to say that people often assume that the main shippers of mlm couples are cishet women and that is very often not true. I can't say this definitively, of course, and I've heard horror stories of middle-aged cishet white women who literally write mlm fanfiction but aren't cool with real life gay people (especially lesbians). However, as a (cis, white) lesbian I have many other queer friends who enjoy mlm fanfiction.

Okay, now more specifically with Buddie. I don't remember the exact points in this critique, but I'm going to try to focus on the ones I do remember. Hopefully, if that op finds this, they won't think I'm completely twisting their words. The first thing I want to say is that I don't know if the op has watched the show or just interacted with the fanbase. Either way, I have done both and want to add some insight.

Firstly, a big problem with non-canon mlm shipping is when fans hate on the real female love interests in the source material. Buddie fans definitely do this, but I want to give a bit of defense, centering three of the most important female love interests of both Buck and Eddie.

Abby Clark (Buck)

I don't have beef with Abby as a person or a character, but she very much hurt Buck and the way she left was a bit of an asshole move. I haven't seen a lot of criticism of her other than that and I think criticizing that is fair.

2. Ana Flores (Eddie)

Ana does get an unreasonable amount of hate, but it's still not that much from my POV? Most of what I've seen of Ana hate is just fanfiction where she is extremely OOC, and she doesn't show up enough on-screen for the audience to truly know her character. I think people mostly use her as a plot device, which is unfair but also kinda what happens to her in canon too. I also want to mention racism in connection with people hating Ana, as I am sure it (both consciously and unconsciously) affects how she is perceived, but as a white woman who has not done a lot of research I'm going to leave it there for other people to dig deeper into.

3. Taylor Kelly (Buck)

Oh Taylor Kelly. She is a much more active character than Ana, and even more than Abby simply because she's been in more seasons. Taylor has a very dynamic character on the show, and she gets a lot of that "canon female love interest of half of an mlm ship" hate. But also, Taylor Kelly fucking sucks! In canon, her and Buck have finally broken up, so I don't see a problem in saying that they were not right for each other, plus she did a bunch of really shitty stuff to the firehouse. She was literally introduced in an episode where she filmed the 118 while they were non-consensually drugged! And left after an episode where she made a promise to Buck about keeping their privacy and then immediately broke that promise for her job. Okay, I don't want to make this just a Taylor Kelly hate post, so that's all I'm gonna say about her. I understand that she has her own motivations and trauma but she's still done a lot of bad things and I am glad Buck broke up with her.

The other main point that the op had was that it's shitty to call a ship queerbaiting if there are already queer people/couples in the show, and representation of other diverse peoples (paraphrasing, please don't attack them). This is... kinda obviously not true? I mean, one of the best (worst for the audience) examples of queerbaiting is Sterek, which comes from a show with a Latin lead and at least a few queer side characters. Another good example is Supernatural, which does not have any main characters of color or queer characters (as far as I remember, and I'm not including Castiel because he was queer for like 5 seconds before dying), but has several POC and queer side characters, including some recurring characters like Charlie (and others, idk i don't watch spn sorry).

"But Zoe, those are different! 9-1-1 has main characters that are queer and POC!" This is true, but the importance of their queerness and/or race is rarely touched upon. Think about it: Hen and Karen get about 2 episodes per season that actually focuses on them and their relationship, and one of the first ones is literally Hen cheating. Not really fantastic representation. Also, like, queer people often flock together, so having more than one queer main character is not "unrealistic" or whatever the problem is.

Lastly, I want to talk about Buddie itself.

I don't really think it can be called full queerbaiting, because I think that has to go beyond the screen and include promotional footage (like Sterek) and cons (like Destiel), which I haven't seen any of. However, I am fairly new to the fandom, and only found out Oliver Stark is British like two months ago. So maybe there have been outside hints that could make Buddie queerbait if it doesn't become canon. Either way, there's definitely something there, and I don't appreciate the way outsiders have gaslit fandoms for several years into thinking they've just "put on shipping goggles" or something like that.

We all saw Eddie's entrance to the show, right? When "What A Man" starts playing as Buck slow-mo turns around to see Eddie half-naked? I don't think this ship is the end-all be-all of TV romance, but it's definitely got a lot of hints in there that were purposeful by the actors, directors, editors, and crew. If not queerbaiting, they have definitely participated in some queer-coding/romance-coding of this couple and we are not insane for noticing that.

ANYWAY

that's it, and I hope I didn't accidentally co-opt a discussion of a deeper topic, but I want other shippers (god I hate that word it sounds so juvenile) to know that we're not insane or seeing things no one else does.

When I saw that art too i felt so hurt, you aren't alone OP, I was as livid as you were but I thought it was just me exaggerating things so I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I'll add my two cents here as someone who has been jumping back and forth between the different versions of TMNT.

A little backstory, I used to watch TMNT 2012 back in the day but very limited, the only episode I remembered fully watching was "the power inside her" or whatever the name was, where donnie got killed because I couldn't fully watch it, only my grandma had nickelodeon and I visited her only once a week so I was lucky to have it even be playing on those days.

So when I got back to TMNT a couple months ago when Rise suddenly started to show up in my feed, I only had vague recollections and because of that, I easily fed into the lies about 2012.

That is, until I decided to rewatch 2012 in full and I had the sudden realisation. "Wait, they aren't so bad."

The writing isn't perfect, and I love to critise 2012, but that also comes with admitting the good, and the brother's relationship is good! And Raph is my favourite, he is so close to taking Donnie's spot honestly.

And i hate, hate seeing people do him dirty because he is NOT CRUEL! It just boils my blood! If they actually payed attention they'd see how caring he actually is. He's the first to jump into action when one of his brothers are hurt. (Ex. When donnie became dumb, Ep. 22 season 3 "the creeping doom", he stepped infront of the truck April was about to hit the plant monster with the party van and Raph was the first to call out to him and jump ahead to get him out of the way. I could make a whole list btw, I'm just showing one moment)

He worries for his brothers wellbeing and was the one that stuck by Leo when he was in a coma, shot down Casey when he kept asking if April talked about him to raph because raph knew donnie liked her, and most of the time, Mikey is the one setting him off, ON PERPOUSE!!! (Not always but plenty of times)

Yall fell for Mikey's victim act that every younger sibling uses to get out of trouble with their parents, blaming the older one when they started it, legit.

And not just Raph, but I see a lot of have towards April too, which, a lot is deserved but it is NOT as bad as people make it seem to be and when I was watching 2012 again and expecting to see her being "bitchy" as they say I was shocked to see that wasn't fully the case, hell, Donnie had a lot of issues too no one pointed out before that I wish they did more.

Also, idk if any of you seen it but I also saw like, not many, but few saying that rise April is better cuz she's....black? I have nothing against that on her, I just thought it was a weird thing to come across gkdkskaka.

But I digress.

I really could go on and on about this bit I think you get the point.

I just wish more people appreciated 2012!Raph for what he is, not for what you remember him/think of him. Because I genuinely think that they'd have fun interacting with each other, but every crossover I see they are just belittling Raph for things he didn't do and legit putting him down for the exact reason he gets mad, he doesn't feel heard or seen with his struggles.

He's fictional but still reflects a lot of people irl.

I hate how it's become a competition of "which TMNT is better" when they should all live in harmony because they are all good in their own regards. And so far, I've seen Rise fans do this the most, which is what pushed me away from rise to begin with (I watched it btw, I mean the fandom), I'm not saying the others don't do that, just that I've seen it way too often in Rise, which left a bad taste in my mouth.

I just wish those fans could see this post and have a more thoughtful conversation about things, but alas, that is wishful thinking.

I recognize the people that love 2012 and getting into it. But the hate is still rancid as all hell and it actively hurts me. I don't know if it should but it does.

Hey there, you are very welcome @moneymaiden  :)  !Sorry for my late reply mate, I’ve had awfully lots to do outside Tumblr but anyways, I still admire a lot how mature you faced and took care of that situation with a troll URL. You  showed a good example of how to handle a troll and showed them that hate will not lead anywhere. You are also absolutely right about the fact that everyone is free to ship whomever they want and no one else should have the right to judge your desicions because bashing the “rival ship” doesn’t make that ship more likely to happen or that these fans who have faced the troll problem would magically become fans of the ship the trolls support.

In general, my opinion is that shipping wars are total waste of time and it only creates unnecessary tension inside the fandom. I really wish people could focus to the main message of the OP, the importance of friendships and achieving dreams instead of fighting about whose pairing will become canon because none of us can’t say anything for certain because it’s Oda who decides if he wants anything romantic to happen inside the Straw hat crew or not. 

Also a common friendly reminder that all you fellow fans are more than welome to talk about shippings with me because I like to ponder those things in general but never try to bash my otps even if you didn’t happen to like them because I would never do that to yours either. I second that @daredevil062488 ! Still I'm heavily annoyed by hypocrites though. I personally enjoyed IF S1 and I don't care if saying that bothers anyone. Was it perfect? No but was it as terrible as people made it out to be? No. I felt there was definitely room for improvement and luckily we just might get it in IF S2 with a new show runner and new writers.

That said there is something I disagree with the OP on in regards to Danny's cameo in LC S2. I don't think it was that great of an episode nor was it well written and the worst part about it was the fight choreography during the warehouse/club scene. They actually had Finn slow down while delivering those kung fu moves to a soundtrack that made me want to fall asleep. I get that it's Cage's series but that was a BAD call restraining Jones like that. It just made the fight look weird and unconvincing. Those kind of martial arts requires speed so the director failed there.

The high points of the episode was Jones' portrayal of a much more calmer, wiser and maturing Danny Rand yet he still maintains that playfulness which I appreciated. What people failed to realize about IF S1 is that he grew up in Kun lun abused daily and unable to learn proper social skills. He was friggin 10 when he disappeared living in some magic land for 15 years, why the hell would he return to N.Y. in an adult frame of mind? I swear people's logic on this escapes me. In my opinion Finn did what he could in S1 but I'm glad people are taking notice of his talent now when I've always known he's good at what he does. I agree this LC episode did give us a nice snippet of the new development they're doing with Danny so I'll give credit where it's due.

I just find it ignorant looking at posts like this by anti Danny people who'd given Jones sh*t for S1 and even after he got cast as Danny. So people had already made their minds up to hate him before watching the show. I've never seen so much hate for a fictional character and the actor like Danny and Finn in my life its disgusting. This is certainly the main reason I don't like venturing in the Danny tag anymore because all I see is hate and I don't want to be around it.

My blog is a positive place. There are characters I greatly dislike in all these shows sure, everyone has their preferences. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna clog up these characters' main tag with anti posts. Or send the actor hate on his/her social media because I dislike their characters. I just write and post about things I like and give fair criticisms to the negative. I swear people in this fandom have nothing better to do than to dump on Danny any way they can. He's imperfect but so are the others and fans forget that. LC is especially far from perfect he's done his fair share of shady crap like attempting to kill that innocent bus driver who he thought killed his wife until Jessica stopped him/told him the truth. Which means he was about to use his powers with the intention to 'murder' someone who didn't deserve it. Tell me why doesn't Cage ever get criticized for that?

Sorry for the long rant I just needed to get this out of my system. I'm tired of seeing hate in the Danny tag but even more exhausted by hypocritical people. Please to the OP dont take what im saying to heart. I'm personally excited for IF S2 it can't be any worse than Jessica Jones S2 which was AWFUL. I like to think it'll be a great season and one that will really allow Finn to shine as Danny Rand.

So what Luke Cage season 2 is telling me is that under good direction and a solid script, Finn Jones can turn in a good Danny Rand/Iron Fist performance. Which means the poor reception of Iron Fist season 1 wasn’t because of Finn but because of Scott Buck, the writing team, and Netflix for rushing the production since they needed to get to the Defenders. 

Finn really didn’t deserve the hatred he got and this is coming from a guy who also criticized his performance.
