You woke up in a strange room, not knowing where you were. Now that you think about it, you couldn't really remember how you got there, or why you were hooked up to a bunch of machines. You tried to sit up, but it caused your entire body to ache.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar woman walks into the room with food in hand. When she sees that you are awake, she practically throws the food to the side and rushes to your bedside. "Oh my god, you're awake!"
You feel like you should remember who she is, but no matter how much you push yourself, nothing comes up. Seeing the apprehensive look on your face, the woman backs up slightly. "Are you okay, honey? It's just me." You scan her face one more time before finally asking, "I'm sorry, who are you?" She laughs before seeing the seriousness in your eyes.
"What do you mean? It's me, Jenna. Your fianceè." You shake your head, making Jenna look even more concerned. "I'm sorry, I really don't know who you are. I don't even know who I am." That makes Jenna begin to freak out, and she calls a nurse into the room.
A woman comes running into the room with a man in a white lab coat, who you quickly figure out is your doctor. Jenna quietly explains what is going on to him, and he looks at you clinically but also with some concern in his eyes. He approaches you slowly with his hands raised, as if you are a wild animal backed in a corner, and he begins to talk.
"Hey there, Y/N. My name is Dr. Kemp, and I am the man who is treating you. Right now, you are in NYU Langone in New York City. You were involved in a car accident and you sustained a head injury that put you in a coma for about a week. We're glad you're safe and awake. Do you remember anything?"
You begin to remember some things, mostly your name and where you are from. Suddenly, the moment that sent you to the hospital comes crashing back. It causes you to begin to panic, which makes the nurse and doctor spring into action. They calm you down and sit you up again, making sure you are okay.
You clear your throat, trying to formulate your words. "I remember some stuff. I can recall my childhood, most things about myself, and the accident. But I really can't remember her. I'm sorry." This makes Jenna choke out a sob, and you look at her with apologetic eyes. You know it isn't your fault, but you wish that you could force yourself to find the memories.
Jenna stands up quickly, muttering something about getting some air before practically running out of the hospital room. You sit there, wishing that you could make things better. If only you could remember.
---
"-And they don't remember anything about us. Our entire relationship is gone. We've been together since senior year. They're the love of my life, and they don't even remember me. What the fuck am I supposed to do?" Jenna cries into her phone. On the other end, Emma Myers tries to calm her down. "Jenna. Since when do you just give up? You have so many memories from over the years, so show them to them. Bring them back to us."
Jenna thinks about it before nodding with renewed determination. She quickly hangs up, apologizing and saying that there was something that she had to do. She then ran to her car, quickly driving off towards your house.
Meanwhile, you are sitting in your room, praying that Jenna comes back. You hoped that she wouldn't give up on you, and in the meantime, you would work on getting the flashes of your life back in focus. You sat there, trying to concentrate when Jenna came running back into the room with a posterboard and a box.
You watch her, confused, as she sets her stuff up on the table in front of you. When she pulls some photographs and loose items out of the box, you realize what she is about to do. She stands in front of you before clearing her throat and starting.
"My name is Jenna Ortega. I am an actress, and I am your fianceè. You are Y/N Y/L/N, and you are the love of my life. We met in our freshman year of high school, and we became best friends." She hands you a picture that you quickly realize is the two of you at a young age, standing together and grinning at the person behind the camera.
"I started acting when I was only nine, but I was on this show called Stuck in the Middle when I was twelve. I continued to play that character until I was fifteen, which intersected with when I met you. You were always my biggest cheerleader, and you supported me no matter what. I quickly developed a crush on you, but I could never tell you how I felt. I carried that flame for you all the way through sophomore and junior year, and well into senior year. You had started to flirt with me, more heavily than you normally would, towards the end of junior year, but you hadn't ever done anything. Senior year was when you finally asked me out."
You let that sit for a second before a memory comes back to you.
You were normally a calm, cool, and collected person. That was a part of your charm, and it was what made girls flock to you. You liked the attention, but only one girl could make you weak in the knees and make you lose your indifferent demeanor. Jenna fuckin' Ortega. Your best friend, and your crush since the end of sophomore year.
Until the end of junior year, you thought that there was no way in hell that she would ever like you back, but then you started to notice little things. She would stare at your lips while you were talking, she watched you all the time and when you caught her she would look away, blushing, and whenever you playfully flirted with her she got incredibly flustered.
You decided that you should shoot your shot, and all you could do was hope that this doesn't ruin your friendship.
You sit back for a second with a shocked expression on your face, before you smiled at her. Jenna looks at you, slightly confused, before she realizes what had just happened. "Do you remember?" You smile and nod, before frowning slightly.
"Not everything. I honestly can't remember asking you out. I just remember deciding to. But I remember you, Jenna." Her smile doesn't falter, as she is just happy that you remember her now. She continues on with her presentation, hoping to jog the rest of your memory of your relationship.
"I said yes, and we've been together ever since. We've had our ups and downs, but it's been amazing overall. Now, you proposed to me about two months ago, in our apartment bedroom. We haven't told the public about our relationship just yet, so you couldn't do it in a public space. It was super romantic, so of course I said yes. I was so happy that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me, and it almost got taken away from us because of your accident. I just need you to remember, because I can't lose you."
You smile tearily at her, before you are hit full force with the weight of your relationship.
Being with Jenna was the greatest thing that had ever happened to you. You realized that you wanted to spend the rest of your life with her, and you quickly decided to propose. Not knowing what ring to get her, you called her sister and Emma to come and help you. They helped you choose the perfect ring to propose with, and you quickly ran home to get set up. You put flower petals on the ground, and you lit candles, and you got fancy champagne and food. When Jenna got home, she saw everything set up, and she was pretty confused.
She quickly walked into your room, where she found you pacing and muttering to yourself in a suit and tie. She cleared her throat, making you whip around and exclaim, "Oh shit, you're early." She gives you a confused look, before looking around and trying to put two and two together.
"Are you cheating on me?" She knows that her question is dumb, and that you would never, but she doesn't know what else to think. The laugh that you let out makes all of the panic in Jenna's body leave, before you step up to her and hold her face in your hands. "I'm not cheating on you, baby. I just..." You clear your throat before getting down on one knee.
Jenna's confusion grows until you pull out a ring and hold it out in front of you. She gasps and begins to tear up. You let out a wet laugh before saying, "I love you more than anything, Jenna. We've been best friends since freshman year, and that has never changed. Sometimes I like to tell people that the only thing that changed about our relationship was that we make out now." That makes Jenna let out a laugh, and you smile up at her. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So, Jenna Marie Ortega, will you marry me?"
Jenna nods and exclaims, "Yes! Of course!" You quickly jump up and pull her into a tight bear hug before sliding the ring onto her finger. You then kiss her passionately, making her sigh into your mouth. You were engaged to Jenna fuckin' Ortega.
You stop Jenna quickly before waving her over and pulling her into a kiss. When you pull back, Jenna is now on the hospital bed next to you. You rest your head on hers, and you whisper, "I remember. I remember it all."
You see her smile, and you know that finally, all is right in her and your world.

spinning webs (of question marks and of regrets)
day 12 whumptober prompt: alternative, “forgotten”
new york’s winters have always been harsh
but lately the cold and the snow seem harsher
it’s only been a few days since neil made everyone forget him, and he has never felt lonelier
but it was for the best, it was the only option they had to keep their universe safe
it was all his fault from the beginning anyway
“hi, my name is neil josten, you don’t know me but I, uh-”
he feels stupid walking down the street rehearsing the stupid fucking speech he plans on giving andrew once he finds him on the cafe he’s working at
he has hopes, that andrew’s eidetic memory was stronger than Uncle Stuart’s spell, that what they have is stronger than the spell’s magic, that there’s someone who still remembers him
he’s terrified of being proven wrong
“hi, my name is neil josten and you don’t know me but you-” his hands are shaking, and it’s not because of the cold
he’s here, he’s at the shop, he’s–
okay okay, he’s got this
he promised andrew he would come find him and here he is, and andrew will remember him or he’ll make andrew and the other foxes remember him and everything will be fine and he’s fine and–
he’s opening the door before he loses the guts to do it
right upon entering he’s flooded with andrew. andrew who is right fucking there, andrew who’s in his spot behind the counter with his cute ass uniform and his handsome face and his andrewness that has neil melting at the sight of him
he’s talking with betsy, but he turns around when he hears the doorbell ring
for a moment all he does is stare
for a moment neil is lost in andrew’s hazel eyes, glowing golden under the christmas lights
for a moment, andrew just stares and stares and neil is so fucking relieved he sighs because andrew only ever stared at him with this much intensity and then-
and then andrew is rising his hand to his forehead in his signature move and-
and neil is filled with hope and relief and happiness and-
and the doorbell rings again, and kevin, his best friend kevin is walking right past him
the world comes crashing down on him as andrew and kevin walk toward each other, completely unaware and uncaring of neil standing in the way
kevin doesn’t even look at him twice
andrew dismisses kevin with a look before turning the coldest most clinical look on neil
what do you want?”
neil can physically feel his heart breaking, his composure falling, his confidence fading
his voice is shaky and his eyes sting but he forces himself to take that step forward
“hi, my name is neil josten- and I-” he can’t stand the way andrew is looking at him, the actual disinterested apathy, the lack of warmth he’s grown used to for the past few months. neil’s world is crumbling around him. it takes all his effort not to break down in tears. “and i’d like a coffee.”
andrew’s eyes have that glint that tell him he’s amused by neil’s odd behavior, but otherwise there’s not a single emotion that tells him andrew recognizes him
this can’t be happening
“okay neil josten”
and just like that he’s moving away, dismissing him entirely, like he didn’t even exist at all
neil is just standing there, little stupid paper with his little stupid speech crunching under the strength of his shaky grip as he watches andrew basically toss kevin’s favorite donut his way
“you little- you know what, i’ll accept this as my gift for winning championships, thank you”
andrew doesn’t even deign to answer him, rolling his eyes before moving away to make neil’s coffee
championships
they won championships
kevin’s donut has fox paws in orange frosting now that neil notices
andrew may not exteriorize his feelings, but he’s proud, he’s happy
neil can’t believe he missed this
but most of all he’s unbelievably happy that now that he’s gone from their lives and their team they won fucking championships
it’s almost like it was him who was making everything go wrong
their lives are already prospering without him and he hasn’t even been gone for long
“neil josten”
he’s shaken out of his thoughts by andrew’s frustrated tone, the one reserved for the times he has to repeat himself
andrew is looking at him boredly, bothered by yet another annoying customer
neil is nothing more than yet another annoying customer
he ignores the way he can barely breathe
“right, thank you, um,” he fights to keep his voice even, “congrats on the foxes winning championships”
it’s painful, seeing andrew try to hide his reaction and his feelings again when he hasn’t done that around neil for a long time
he goes through several feelings before settling on curiosity, open and real and light
“thanks, actually”
neil expects it to stay like that, knowing andrew, thinking he knows andrew, but he is surprised by his voice continuing
“it came as a pleasant surprise all things considered, exy doesn’t usually surprise me or seem pleasant to me, it’s not that i hate it but-”
“to hate it you’d have to actually care about it?”
god he’s fucking embarrasing himself, andrew is actually fucking happy, something so rare for him to be expressing to a complete stranger, and yet here neil is, interrupting him
the curiosity comes back, followed by confusion and puzzlement and something neil can’t quite point out
“right, yeah” neil can’t stop staring at him, can’t stop his eyes from burning, “it’s just this time it feels different for some reason”
neil can do nothing but smile at him, a pained and sad and small thing but a smile nonetheless, not his father’s smile, something far softer reserved for andrew and only andrew
he has to look away before he loses his mind
his eyes fall on the cup of coffee, and he mumbles something not even he can understand, taking his wallet out of his back pocket with trembling hands
he tries to get his thoughts and his feelings back under control
this is– this isn’t the time for regret of all feelings, this isn’t time for taking things back
he promised andrew he would come for him, he promised he would remind him of him
he has to do this
he hands over the cash
“right, i wanted to-”
andrew pushes his bangs behind his ear, revealing the ugly bruise and the bandage over his brow
he had forgotten about this
he had forgotten about how he put andrew in danger again, about how he almost got him killed again, about how he got andrew hurt again-
andrew notices his stare, and the annoyance comes back
“sorry, sorry i just- okay?” it’s a weak thing, his voice, his message, but andrew gets it
his voice is apprehensive, his eyes narrowed, but he drops his gaze to the register, “it doesn’t hurt”
neil can’t tear his gaze away from him
“anything else?”
he promised andrew he would come for him, he promised he would remind him, he promised he would return, he promised-
but what’s the cost?
“no,” he whispers, trying to fight the tears threatening to fall, folding the paper back closed, putting it in his back pocket with shaky fingers, “thank you-”
he wants to say more, he wants to say you were amazing, he wants to say thank you for everything, for the trust, the keys, the kisses, the home
he can’t make himself do this
he stares at him with his golden eyes with nothing but puzzlement in them as neil stares back with too much feeling, too much baggage, too much pain
he drags his gaze away to look at kevin one last time, just drinking the sight of him, before he forces himself to look andrew for the one last second
it hurts and rasps and tears to speak again
“i’ll see you around”
he’s turning back and exiting the shop before he can think more about it, before he fucks up and confesses, before he goes and fucks up andrew and their friends’ lives again
he walks back out to the frozen winter feeling colder and emptier than ever, the tears finally letting themselves fall
it’s fine, everything is fine
he’s fine
he’s just gonna, go back to the abandoned house he’s squatting in, look for a job somewhere, see if he can rent out a shitty apartment somewhere
start fresh his new life at being nobody
he’s done it before, he can do it again
he has always been nobody, the forgotten, the left behind
he will survive
besides, andrew won’t have to forgive him for breaking a promise he doesn’t remember in the first place anyway
would like to once again apologize to neil lmao i don’t know what i have with leaving him fight his demons alone, maybe it’s the fact that he’s canonly a martyr and that i have way too much experience with loneliness part of the dialogue is taken directly from no way home so credits to marvel i guess title from hourglass by sleeping at last

What if I asked even mote questions: what does Annabeth’s dad think is going on with Luke when he shows up, and what exactly does Annabeth tell him?
When Luke shows up in chapter 8? Fred doesn't think anything of it. He just sees Luke and does the "Oh hi, how are you?" "Pretty good, how've you been" "Good just here to see Annie" "Oh me too" that small talk before Annabeth finds them.
When Annabeth called off her wedding, all she told her dad was "I can't do this, I don't love him, I'm not going through with it." Fred tries to calm her down and talk her out of it, but she's (obviously) steadfast in her decision. From Fred's point of view, though, his daughter has clinical depression and history of panic attacks that she inherited from her mother, and she's just made a very rash decision. So he really just thinks that she's being dramatic, getting cold feet, and that everything will be fine in a few days.
It is not fine in a few days. Annabeth calls him a few days later and tells him that Luke is moved out, and that she's canceled with all the wedding vendors. "I've talked a few into giving you the deposit back. Let me know if you want me to pay you back for anything."
This reminds him so much of her mother, who left one day without much warning ("not much warning" according to his point of view). Back then, he thought "Oh well, she'll be back. We have a baby," but she never came back. So watching Annabeth up and leave Luke without much warning, and without Annabeth giving Fred a real reason for doing it, makes him (unfortunately) sympathetic to Luke. He even starts to assume Annabeth did something wrong, like maybe she fell in love with someone else or cheated on him.
So when he runs into Luke at the theater his first thought is "Oh great, they must still be in touch. They must be working it out." That's also why, when Luke calls him and says "Annabeth didn't come home last night" he doesn't go "What were you doing at her apartment?" He thinks oh he must have been invited, but she somehow didn't make it home.
Later that night, when Annabeth gives him the full story for the first time, his world turns upside down. She tells him how old she was when it started, about the throwing and breaking things, and about the photos. And he is just devastated -- for her and everything she's been through, but also that he never saw it or protected her from it. Most of all he's mad at himself for assuming she called off the wedding for either no reason or for reasons that were her fault, and that he never once stopped to consider that maybe the man who was 28 when his daughter was 20 was the problem. He's mad at himself for not being close enough with Annabeth that she didn't trust him enough to tell him the honest truth about what happened.
Because he's always thought he's done right by Annabeth. He let her go away to New York at 14; he's paid for everything. He even still pays for her apartment well into her 20s so that she never needs to worry about money. And he thinks that's sufficient proof that he loves her. Obviously Annabeth is not ignorant to the fact that he loves her, but by the time she's 25 there's no warmth in that love. They don't know each other. Her feeling is "that's my dad, and I love him because he's my dad, but I don't like him."
When he gets back to SF, he tells his wife what happened (he has Annabeth's permission to do this), and she basically forces him to go to therapy about it, because it's a lot. Thankfully he gets a good therapist who calls him on his shit and tells him he needs to call his daughter and have a real heart to heart, and apologize to her. That conversation between him and Annabeth happens while Percy is in Miami, and is the catalyst for her getting rid of her wedding dress. She finally decides she's ready to let go of everything from that point in her life. And she also decides to try and be more honest with her dad, or at least tell him she loves him every once and a while. he promises to do the same.
#whoops this one got long#twice upon a pointe#fred is a bad dad who genuinely loves his daughter and thinks hes doing his best#which makes it so much sadder#also i reversed the athena & fred dynamic#where in the books she give him a baby as a gift he doesn't want#in this he asks annabeths mom to keep a baby she doesn't want#but he's loved her since the day she was born even if he's not always the best at being her dad#and also yeah i adapted the trauma of the athena/minerva split and mark of athena quest#into just annabeth inheriting her mom's chronic mental illness

Snow On the Beach Chapter One
"did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen?"
Summary:
Former Avenger Leila Whittaker lost everything in the snap–her chosen family, her reputation, and the love of her life. Three years later, she’s keeping a low profile in New York when Natasha, the de facto leader of the intelligence community, calls her back into the field for some undercover work. Leila finds herself paired with Scott Lang, known to the public as Ant-Man and known to Leila as some guy she met on the Raft six years ago.
This is fine. Leila is content with sticking with what remains of her team, and keeping the rest of the world at arm’s length. Most of them want to be there, now, anyway. And that’s fine.
It’s fine, except that Scott Lang turns out to have a way of getting under her skin, in a way she can’t quite shake off.
Chapter Summary: Scott and Leila both agree to get back in the game.
Warnings: None
Pairings: Scott Lang/OFC, past Steve Rogers/OFC

Out of all the recurring nightmares Leila’s had over the course of her life–and there have been many–this one might be the most versatile.
Sometimes it starts differently, but it always leads to the same place. She's on a stage, being controlled by puppet strings, and she looks up and finds the person controlling the strings, and it's always different, but pulling from the same pool of people. Everyone who’s ever interfered with her autonomy. Thanos, David, Johnny. Iain Warner, one time. Her past self, with blank, emotionless eyes, a few times. Occasionally more than one person, even if the people in question never met in real life.
It’s Thanos, this time. She locks eyes with him, and as always, she wakes up.
Leila isn't a shrink, but it's not hard to figure out what the dream means. What's trickier, and what she hasn't quite figured out yet, is what to do about it.
She sighs and drags herself out of bed, and tries to shake the nightmare off. Sometimes she can't; sometimes it haunts her all day. A few times she's woken up into a panic attack. Today, though, is one of her better days; she can already feel it slipping out of her mind like sand through her fingers.
She’s on her third chai latte when her phone rings. “I'm on my way,” she lies.
“Hello to you too.” Natasha sounds amused.
“Thought you were Tony,” Leila replies, stirring her latte absently. “I'm heading up there today. It's Morgan’s birthday.”
“Be sure to enjoy it, because I need you to come in tomorrow.”
Leila pauses. “So this isn't a social call,” she says, hiding her unease under a layer of snark.
“'Fraid not, Princess.” Despite being out of the field for years, Leila’s nickname, derived from her codename–Snow White–lives on. Old habits die hard, she supposes. Natasha has been calling her that for…almost a decade, now.
“I'm retired, Nat.”
“No, you're clinically depressed. There's a difference.”
“Thanks, Doctor Romanoff, I'll keep that in mind.”
“You can ponder it more tomorrow when you come in.”
“Make someone else do it.”
“We need someone with your specific skill set.”
“Make Talos do it.”
“He's busy.”
“Then make Gravik do it.”
“Also busy.”
“Then make–”
“Stop naming skrulls. Besides, we need someone with your experience with organized crime.”
“You have that experience, too.”
“I've got a lot on my plate, as I’m sure you can imagine.”
And Leila can. The responsibility Nat took on in the aftermath of the snap is extraordinary. Sometimes Leila feels bad about rejecting her offer to be her right hand. Then she remembers why she did.
It's funny, in a way, that the thing that's made her more trouble than she's worth is the one thing that wasn't even her fault. (It wasn't, right?)
“Organized criminals lost people, too. They're not gonna want to talk to me.”
“They won’t be talking to you. They’ll be talking to each other. Or so they think.”
“Yes, I understand how shapeshifting works.”
“Leila,” Nat says, suddenly serious in a way that makes Leila sit up straight. “It’s about the Trust. That’s why we need it to be you.”
Leila takes several moments to process this, making a point to take deep breaths.
“Fine. I’m in.”
“Good. Meet me at the compound tomorrow at 8.”
“I’ll be there.”
“Lei–by the way, just so you aren’t taken off guard–you’ll be working with someone.”
Leila tenses reflexively, and tries not to let that tension into her voice. “Who? Anyone I know?”
“You might remember him. His name is Scott Lang.”
It’s early mornings like this that Scott starts to have reservations about X-Con. He comes into his office, and something about the morning light reminds him of the single office they’d inhabited years prior, lit almost entirely by fluorescents, four desks crowded into the space. Him, Kurt, Luis and Dave. It’s him, Kurt, Luis, and a small number of employees now.
(He wonders sometimes, which office Dave would’ve taken, and if he would’ve liked it.)
The success of the business is great, of course. It’s great to be able to help support Cassie. It’s great to be able to keep people employed that would otherwise be exactly where Scott was when he got out of prison. And it’s great to help keep people safe.
The only problem is that the business didn’t start growing to this level until right after the snap. Scott doesn’t have, like, hard data to prove it, but he can never shake the idea that there’s a cause-and-effect there. People, now more than ever, want to feel safe. X-Con can’t protect people against genocidal aliens, unfortunately, but it can help them feel protected. Scott knows he isn’t doing anything wrong, technically–why people give him their business is their own prerogative–but sometimes it feels opportunistic, anyway.
He’s at his desk, going over his schedule for the day, when the door to his office swings open. “You have a visitor,” Jez announces.
“You could’ve used the phone,” Scott says without looking up.
“But then I wouldn’t get to spend this quality time with my favorite brother,” she replies, leaning in the doorway.
“I’ll be sure and let Matt know you said that.”
“He knows what he did.”
If Scott had more time, he’d probably take the bait, but he doesn’t. “Can you send the client in? It’s a tight schedule today.”
Jez gives a lazy salute and heads back to the front desk. Weeks ago, their usual secretary had resigned, and Jez has been “filling in” ever since. She’s not an ex-convict, and she didn't have secretarial experience, which makes her a nepotism hire by any definition, but she needs the work, and Scott’s been watching out for her since she was nine years old. He’s not going to stop now. Besides which, she’s done enough free babysitting for him over the years to have earned it, anyway.
He’s also pretty sure that nobody here–outside of Luis and Kurt, who knew her pre-X-Con–has figured out that she’s never been to prison. Not that it’s a secret, but still. She’s young, but even on her best behavior, she still has roughly the same personal energy as the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Toons.
(He remembers her first visit to him in San Quentin. “It’s weird, because I always thought I’d be the first one of us to go to prison,” she’d told him.
“Sorry, first?” he’d asked.
“Yeah. Me, then you, then Matt.”
“Why would Matt go to prison?”
“Wrong place, wrong time. I’d be locked up on drug charges, obviously.”
“Of course.”)
The door opens. He looks up and smiles. “Hi, I’m Scott, thanks for–” he pauses, and then tries not to sputter. “Hawkeye?”
Clint Barton gives him a half-smile, the kind where Scott can’t quite tell if he’s happy or not. “Scott,” he greets. “Good to see you again.”
Leila always forgets how beautiful the sky above Tony’s home is until she’s there. It’s one of those summer nights where the twilight seems to last forever, and she knows that once the sun is finally down, the stars in the sky will be actually visible, unlike the city. She can even see a few of them now, faintly.
It’s the lakeside that ties it all together, though. Isabella had wanted to live somewhere by water, and Tony had, as he did to any and all requests or mild whims that Isabella made, obliged.
Isabella is some ways ahead of them, maybe ten yards, holding a toddling Morgan’s hand. Still clearly in sight, but far enough away for Leila and Tony to talk, which Leila knows is coming–otherwise they would’ve had Leila take Morgan for a walk by herself while they cleaned up the house.
“So,” Tony says, “why’re you crashing on our couch tonight, again?”
Leila knows what he’s actually asking. Are you okay? Do you need to not be alone? Are you about to go off the deep end again? Are you trying not to relapse? She kicks a rock into the lake.
“I’m just saying, it’s an expensive couch,” Tony continues. “I feel like I at least deserve to know. Not that you aren’t always welcome.”
“I know,” she says, and she does, both about the couch and the welcomeness. Leila could ask to move in tomorrow and Tony would have the guest bedroom decorated for her within the hour. Her friendship with him is possibly the one thing in her life that she’s never questioned.
“I’m going to the compound tomorrow,” she says finally. “Nat wants me back in the field. It’s just easier to stay here than go home and come back up.”
Tony whistles lowly. “You sure you’re up for that?”
“No. But apparently I’m the only woman for the job.” She pauses. “It’s about the Trust.”
“The Trust? That crime ring we took down back in…” Tony runs the numbers in his head. “2012?”
“Apparently we didn’t take it down far enough. Or someone decided to reboot it.”
Tony nods. “Are you working alone? I imagine it’s hard to build trust, given…well, you know.”
“Given that half of the world hates me.” Leila can handle innuendo from anyone else, but she doesn’t like dancing around things with Tony. His straightforwardness is one of the things that first drew her to him.
“That’s the one, yeah.”
She smiles a little despite herself and kicks another rock. “Apparently I’m going in with someone named Scott Lang. Nat said I might remember him, from the Raft back during the whole Accords thing.” Leila had only spent a few hours on the Raft, and she doesn’t remember a lot of it. Frankly, the entire debacle is somewhat blurred in her mind. “I don’t, though. Do you?”
Tony thinks. “Right. Ant-Man. He was in Munich with Cap.”
There’s that straightforwardness she loves. Tony is one of the only people who doesn’t hesitate to mention Steve around her. The good, the bad, all of–
“Sorry, did you say Ant-Man?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“Why the fuck is he called Ant-Man?”
“Cause he shrinks. He can also grow, but I guess ‘Giant-Man’ didn’t have the same ring to it.”
“I dunno, I might take it over Ant-Man.”
“Because you’re the expert on code names.”
“Snow White is a perfectly respectable code name, thank you.”
“Sorry.” He gives an exaggerated bow. “Please forgive me, your highness.”
Leila laughs. “How do you even know all this?”
“I have a vested interest in knowing the names of people who may or may not hold grudges against me.”
“That’s healthy.”
“That’s precaution.” Tony takes a few quick strides and then steps in front of her to face her. “I’m serious. Are you okay with this? It’s been years.”
“It’s only been three years. Not even that, actually,” she waves a hand. “As long as this doesn’t become a recurring thing…I’m fine. I can handle it.”
Tony watches her for a long moment, looking for any sign of indecision on her face. Finally, he nods.
“Alright. As long as you stay up long enough to watch Tangled. It’s Morgan’s favorite right now, and she wanted to watch it with you.”
Leila smiles. “Traitor,” she mutters. “But yeah. I can do that.”
Scott clears an hour from his schedule (he makes a note to thank Kurt and Luis both for taking on his meetings that day), and makes three phone calls.
The first one is to Hope.
He explains the situation: Clint Barton (yes, that Clint Barton) showed up at his work asking him, on behalf of Natasha Romanoff (yes, that Natasha Romanoff) to get involved in some kind of espionage-related, superpower-related mission-type-thing. He said he wouldn’t do it without Hope (nobody can say he doesn’t learn from his mistakes.) Barton said they wanted him for his security and heist experience more than for his Ant-Man activity. Scott said he’d think about it.
“So now I’m asking you,” Scott says.
“Asking me what?”
That’s actually a good question. “I’m asking if you think I should agree to help,” he says, “and if you think I should do it without you.”
“I mean, you’re always better off with me there,” Hope replies easily. “But if they’re trying to keep the team small, and you trust them…I think you should at least consider it.”
If you trust them. He supposes he does. The Munich incident had involved a lot of mistakes on Scott’s part, but that hadn’t been either of their fault. Neither had the way it ended.
“Have you told Maggie?” Hope continues.
“That’s the next call I’m making.”
“Make it. And think about it. But if you say no, just don’t do it because of me.”
The second call is, as promised, to Maggie.
“Hey, Scott, is this important?”
“Uhhhhh….yes. I’d say so.” He clears his throat. “I need some advice.”
“Okay, but can you make it quick? I’m on my lunch break.”
I can try? “Yeah. Totally. It’ll be quick.”
“Okay. What’s up?”
He tells her the same thing he told Hope, and then tells her what Hope said. “So now I’m asking you. Do you think I should do it?”
“No, I don’t, but that’s not the question you’re actually asking.”
“Okay, what am I asking?”
“You’re asking me if you’d be a bad person if you said no. And you’re asking me if you’d be a bad father if you said yes.”
Maggie’s ability to cut to the heart of the issue is not a quality Scott remembers her possessing during their admittedly short-lived marriage. He wonders idly if, given enough time and thought, he could pinpoint exactly when it started.
“Okay. So what do you think?”
“I think nobody could blame you if you chose to stay out of it. And I think you’re going to do it anyway.”
Scott stays silent for a long moment, and Maggie takes it as an invitation to continue.
“It’s who you are, Scott. Since the day I met you. You see a chance to be useful, to help someone, and you can’t resist.”
Scott sighs. “And Cassie?” he asks hesitantly.
It’s Maggie’s turn to stay silent for a moment. Then, finally: “I can’t ask you to be someone you’re not. But Cassie’s already lost one father. If things get too dangerous, do you think you can back out?”
Scott looks at the photo on his desk. Him, Matt, Jez and Cassie.
“Yeah. I can do that.”
The third call is to Clint Barton.
“Barton,” he answers. There’s a sort of lazy quality to his voice.
“Hey, it’s, uh, it’s Scott. Lang. Ant-Man.”
“Name rings a bell. Made your decision yet?”
“Yeah.” He takes a deep breath. “I’m in.”

Guadalupe Negron, 33 (USA 1993)
In New York, paramedics received a call at about 1:40 P.M. about a medical emergency at an abortion facility. When they arrived on the scene, an abortionist named David Benjamin started telling them that a client “had suffered only a cardiac arrest.”
The scene of the crime told a different story.
Paramedics found the dead body of 33-year-old Guadalupe Negron on a bloodstained table. As one paramedic would later testify in court, “When we first entered, there was a lot of blood on everything, on the table, on her genital area, on the floor and instrument. There was no indication she was alive. She was dead.”
Someone had apparently tried to intubate Guadalupe, but instead of placing the tube down her trachea, it had been forced into her stomach. Stomach acid had gone up the tube, into her mask and then into her lungs.
But that wasn’t even the worst part. An autopsy revealed that Guadalupe had a hole torn through her uterus that measured at 3 inches long. She had bled all over the filthy room in the abortion facility.
One month before Guadalupe’s death, the state had revoked Benjamin's license for gross incompetence and negligence for abortions performed on five women in 1990. Benjamin was appealing the revocation and was legally allowed to continue with his abortion business at the time, even allowed to call it “practicing medicine”.
At his trial, David Benjamin tried to blame Guadalupe for her painful death. He claimed that she “sat up” on the operating table (meaning that she was likely conscious when Benjamin tore into her) and that the tear in one of her internal organs was her own fault. Despite his claim, David Benjamin was convicted of second-degree murder. He also lost his medical license for his unbelievable incompetence and disregard for life. Freddie Noboa, one of the paramedics at the scene, praised the verdict and was extremely glad that he came forward as a witness against the abortionist.
Guadalupe’s remains was sent back to the Honduras, where she was born. She had been raising four children when she discovered she was pregnant with her fifth. She had immigrated to America to try to start a new life, but the laws that legalized abortion and allowed an abortionist with a history of botched abortion to legally continue his business had led to her horrific death.
Guadalupe Negron and her baby should not have suffered and died this way. Her four surviving children should not have lost their mother and sibling. Two lives were ended and the rest were shattered. Nobody in the family deserved the fate that the abortionist inflicted on them.

( simone ashley / 32 / she, they ) — it’s been a while since we’ve seen samira konar in the shadow world. the unseelie ( courtless ) resides in new york and reminds us of scuffed up tennis shoes, ignored alarm clocks and burnt bridges lighting a path. rumor has it that they might have an affiliation to no one, but only time will tell where their loyalties really lie. until then, only one thing is certain : the descent into hell will be easy for the bohemian.
PART ONE.
FULL NAME : samira konar NICKNAME(S) : mira SPECIES : unseelie AGE : thirty two ( fifty ) GENDER : demi woman PRONOUNS : she and her ORITENTATION : panromantic and pansexual LOYALTIES : none
BIRTHDAY : july 2nd ZODIAC : cancer ALIGNMENT : phlegmatic FACECLAIM : simone ashley EYE COLOR : brown HEIGHT : 5'7'' POSITIVE TRAITS : helpful, decisive, unflappable, patient NEGATIVE TRAITS : aloof, cynical, impersonal, judgmental

PART TWO.
samira's family still resides in faerie and is part of the unseelie court. samira left faerie after the attacks on it and settled in new york in july of 2021 and hasn't looked back. they visit their family on occasion whenever they need to boost their magic or miss them, but they don't regret leaving faerie and don't have any plans to settle back in faerie or be affiliated with a court again.
samira works at claws and paws, and adopted a serval they named balooo after she was abandoned at the clinic. since then they've made a new life and haven't branched out very much to meet new people as they like it being quiet and not having any drama.
samira can come across as aloof because they try not to get into anyone's business or have anyone in theirs. they're helpful to a fault but if it comes down to it samira would choose herself before anyone else.

I wish I never listened to the medical and psychiatric community when they told me it was possible to change my sex. What a lie. Very dangerous and unethical. Sex reassignment surgery is a hit and miss type of surgery, but they don't tell you that. They never do. And maybe if I didn't have autism, maybe if my brain wasn't so defective, I would have caught on before it was too late. I wish there was a cure for autism, but that's unlikely. It's endless suffering on top of even more suffering. I also wish voluntary euthanasia was legal. My death, likely painful, has proven that ethics are not universal and are otherwise non-existent.
No one is truly there for me. There's no need to pretend. I have a gaping hole in my genital area with my colon spilling out (disgusting) and a ring of scar tissue blocking most of the entrance. If the colon can't discharge, that leaves it with severe blockage, which then could turn (and likely expected) into blood clots, followed by death. I've already reached the stage of blockage.
What hurts me the most is the loneliness and the inability to find a partner. I can't have a normal sex life. I'm a loser and I probably deserve this deception. This is what I get for messing with nature. Mankind is destructive and I self-destructed. I just wanted friendship and love. I wanted life to be easier. I wanted to be a woman since I was 15. I wish I had the knowledge that I have today. I was a confused kid with no identity. I wish I could have done everything different, but it's too late now. I'm royally screwed.
Dr. Thomas Satterwhite and Dr. Maurice Garcia, both in California and who are my original surgeons, have basically killed me. With accessory to my death is Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic, Dr. Rajveer Purohit, Dr. Rachel Bluebond-Langner, and Dr. Jess Ting, who all refused to help me despite having letters by 1 psychiatrist and 2 Clinical Social Workers recommending reversal surgery and my detransitioning. My last wish is for the State of California and State of New York to press mutilation and criminal charges against these monsters, but they won't because people like me don't matter. There will be no accountability since malpractice is impossible to prove, especially with no lawyers willing to help me. There will be more victims of the false promises of changing your body into someone you can never be.
The Transgender Ideology and its lies, along with the pro-gay media, medical and psychiatric community, have killed me. The feminization of America will continue to produce outcomes like mine. It wasn't my fault for failing. Everyone failed me, my death shouldn't surprise anyone.
I hope they're all happy now. They've doomed me to choose between a life of suffering and death. No one cares enough to help me, they want me to wake up in pain everyday and suffer. No pain medication, no surgery, no empathy, and no pleasure.
I hope to be remembered in positive light, but no doubt I'll be labeled mentally ill and a fool. I've always meant well. It was my kindness and trusting at face value that screwed me (like always).

Frankie Boyle's Farewell to the Monarchy
youtube
“I didn’t make any jokes when the Queen died. I maintained a strict silence. . . as I tried to sneak back out of her bedroom.
(…)
Famously, the public drew strength from the Royal family staying in London during World War Two. Presumably, they thought the Luftwaffe might hold back if there was a risk they’d bomb their own.
(…)
Richard III in many ways set the tone for what would become the modern, British monarchy: a child-sacrificing cult of violent, ruthless ambition which the British public is happy to tolerate in exchange for a long bank holiday.
(…)
Henry VIII is one of the few husbands Johnny Depp can feel superior to. Only England can watch a man abuse six different women and think “Maybe every school child should learn a rhyme to remember how he did it.” Henry also invented modern divorce and so it’s his fault you’re watching this at home, alone and unloved.
(…)
Every royal coat of arms is richly symbolic. For example, before he became King, Prince Charles’ crest showed a lion mounting another lion while a horse looks patiently on. Whereas the Duke of York’s shows a lion paying twelve millions pounds to a sex-trafficked lion cub that the lion claims it never met. And from Queen Elizabeth I, today’s royals learned a valuable lesson: understand your own symbolic function. Elizabeth, in a time of conflict between Catholicism and Protestantism, understood that by presenting herself as a sort of Virgin Mary incarnate, she could dilute those tensions. And indeed, she went on to shape the worship that took place in the Anglican Church, creating a sort of Catholicism for pussies.
(…)
Victoria had her first sight of Scotland after arriving by ship at Leith. If ever a four-foot-eleven woman with nine kids and clinical depression was going to feel at home, it was going to be in Leith.
(…)
With conditions miserable for many Brits, Queen Victoria did the obvious and spread that misery around the world, much like a U2 tour.
(…)
Personally, I try to deal with the injustice of the British monarchy in my own, small way; giving swans bread soaked in LSD to try and liberate them from their mental shackles.
(…)
Conspiracy theories about the royal family being lizards disguises the fact that they’re something even worse: a slightly dim German family to whom we’ve inexplicably given billions of pounds.
(…)
I used to be outraged by the British class system, how it destroys lives. Then I bought a ‘Live Laugh Love’ magnet for my fridge. Now it all just washes over me. The monarchy is ending. When that happens, let’s not be bitter. Let’s get out in the streets and raise a bottle to them. . . filled with petrol and a burning rag.”
“Is the Coronation going to be a flop? It is impossible to be sure as we know so little about it, but far too many of the signs are bad. How can things go well when the official food for the occasion is a sort of vegetarian flan?
Will our new King be dedicating his life to God, as his mother did, or to Net Zero, as he seems to want to do? How Christian will the ceremony be? I am all for welcoming other faiths, but it is our Christian laws, customs, culture and civilisation which have drawn so many to come to live here. And I believe it is our Anglican settlement which creates the tolerant space in which other beliefs rightly flourish among us.
Few people realise that we are the last nation in the world to have such a ceremony. The other remaining kings and queens of Europe have low-key inaugurations, about as majestic as the induction of a new head teacher.
Ours is a ritual of memory, power, loyalty and acclaim, stretching back a thousand years into the very origins of Christian Europe. And if you read the order of service from the 1953 event, or watch the film of it, you will get a strong sense that the monarchy of the time was not ashamed to exist.
(…)
When the Queen died last year, I was moved enough to queue for hours to see her lying-in-state. But I have never forgiven the authorities for the muffled, underpowered ceremonies surrounding her death. This was the most important death since that of Winston Churchill in 1965 – which was marked by a great triumph worthy of the Roman Empire and ending with crowds lining the railway tracks as he was carried home on a steam train to the heart of the countryside of the nation he saved.
(…)
Well, I shall never be a Royal adviser. Charles long ago decided I was unacceptable and cancelled a meeting he had originally wanted to have with me, because his politically correct aides warned him against it. But if I had gone, I should have said to him, and say again now, that it is no use trying to please or placate the enemies of the Crown. Do what you like. Submit to taxes, embrace political correctness, wear a mask and sit alone at your own spouse’s low-key funeral, cut back on the pomp, sideline your embarrassing relatives. It will do no good.
The radicals who rule the country see all such moves as signs of weakness. And those who treasure a thousand years of majesty know that it will not last much longer if it carries on like this.”

Just the Facts: The story of how Claire Temple met Nick Fury.
Get ready for a lot of parenthesis and unknowns.
The story of Claire Temple’s first meeting with Nick Fury was a legend in the hero community. No one exactly knew the full story–at least, no one who would talk–but everyone knew the basics.
It started on Monday a week prior with Jessica Jones and Matt Murdock. They'd been working on a drug trafficking case together, and they'd somehow attracted the attention of some SHIELD agents. Matt did the smart thing and ran. Jessica did not.
(Jessica would later claim that what happened next was entirely Matt's fault. Matt would deny this on principle.)
Jessica was arrested. Her cursing could be heard for three blocks.
Matt called Misty and Brett almost immediately after. They reported that Jessica wasn’t in the system. Her entire record was gone. Matt called in Karen and Malcolm to help look for her. Karen and Malcolm didn’t find anything. To the entire world, Jessica had vanished off the face of the earth. Following this revelation, Matt went looking for her as Daredevil.
He and Luke searched pretty much all of New York. They met a hero they had previously never heard of, and did not find any trace of Jessica.
The hero they met: Kate Bishop. She listened to their explanation, and called Clint Barton. Clint called one of his friends in SHIELD (It is unknown to this day who exactly he called, and the subject is hotly debated) and by Tuesday, they had a location: a SHIELD front in lower Manhattan.
What happened next is, once again, debated. What’s known is that Matt went to the location; Luke vehemently denies being there but security footage showed a man matching his description in the fight; Kate was there, though whether she was specifically working with Matt or was just in the area is presently unclear.
What is known is that at 2:05 AM on Wednesday, Matt passed out bleeding on the doorstep of Claire’s apartment, still in his Daredevil costume. She stitched him up and interrogated him.
(Matt would later claim he never told her anything, but it is widely agreed that he absolutely did. Claire would never speak of anything to do with this story, however, so it is impossible to verify.)
Matt (allegedly) explained that something had gone wrong in the mission. He was heavily concussed and passed out before he could get through his explanation. Claire showed up at her clinic an hour later, Matt in tow. A few nurses treated him, and Claire called every hero she knew.
By Thursday, every SHIELD agent in the city had Punisher, Luke Cage, both Iron Fists, Spider-Man, and a very injured Daredevil breathing down their neck.
Early in the morning on Friday, Jessica showed up at Alias Investigations, entirely sober and thoroughly pissed off about it. Malcolm was there when she arrived, and called in the team. Jessica busied herself by getting drunk while the rest of the Defenders, Punisher, Spider-Man, and an overly invested Kate Bishop raced to the office.
Jessica explained, after three glasses of whiskey and a cup of coffee, that she’d been arrested by SHIELD, broke two agents’ ribs, nearly got away before she was tranqed and woke up in prison. She slept for a while, was yelled at by a guy with an eyepatch, then woke up in a cab in front of her office.
No one knew off the top of their heads who the eyepatch guy was, unfortunately. SHIELD was very bad at keeping secrets, but the identity of its director was the one secret they were actually capable of keeping. Luckily, Kate, who had been live-tweeting this whole ordeal, did a few google searches and came away with the conclusion that the guy with the eyepatch was definitely Nick Fury.
With a target in mind, Jessica left, with the entirety of the Defenders following her.
(The general collection of the two days are a vague mess of tall tales and rumors. For the sake of the narrative, the most interesting stories are listed below.
Kate got into a fight with Spider-Man after she claimed The Godfather was overrated. This ended with both of them being thrown off a roof.
Matt passed out three times. All three times, either Luke or Iron Fist wound up dragging him to Claire’s clinic; all three times, Matt escaped out a window before Claire could treat him.
J. Jonah Jamison alleged that the increased patrols by heroes constituted a hostile takeover. Three of his billboards were found defaced the next day. The culprit remains at large, and suspects range from Foggy Nelson to Deadpool to the Punisher.
At no point were any Avengers informed of this, with the exception of Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff, who made a bet about how long their teammates would remain oblivious. Natasha won.)
At some point on Friday, Melinda May (allegedly) called Nick Fury (allegedly) on behalf of Phil Coulson (allegedly) and told him to leave New York alone (allegedly) and threatened to inform both Quake and the Avengers (allegedly). Fury took her threat seriously, and tracked down Jessica Jones. He found out that she, as well as several other heroes, frequented Claire’s clinic. It is unknown if he knew Claire was the vigilante docotr Night Nurse when he went to Claire’s clinic.
Fury was met by Matt, Luke, Jessica, both Iron Fists, Kate, Clint, Natasha, Misty, Brett, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, Frank, Spider-Man, and Ms. Marvel (it is unknown precisely why she was there, but the most prevelant theory is that she followed Kate on twitter), all of which were led by Caire Temple. Luke and Matt had to remove Jessica from the room to keep her from killing him.
Claire asked Fury who he was. He responded, somewhat sarcastically, by saying, “In charge.”
Some arguing ensued (no one remembered the specific words said, but they all agreed that Claire and Fury were yelling at each other, and no one else could get a word in edgewise.)
This ended when Fury said, “I don’t have to answer to a goddamn nurse.”
The entire room went silent. Everyone turned to Claire. For a moment, Claire just stared at him. A later account by Luke Cage would say that she, “looked like she was planning a homicide.”
“Everybody,” Claire said in a dark tone no one had ever heard her use before, “get out. You stay,” she added, jabbing a finger in Fury’s direction.
It is unknown what exactly was said in that room. Claire and Fury both refuse to say anything on the matter. What is known is that after leaving that room, Fury was apologizing profusely, and SHIELD stayed the hell out of New York for months.
*This is probably one of the worst things I have ever written, and I refuse to apologize for it.*

Trump’s Transition Team Head Says R.F.K. Jr. Converted Him to Vaccine Skeptic - The New York Times
Trump’s Transition Team Head Says R.F.K. Jr. Converted Him to Vaccine Skeptic
Howard Lutnick told CNN that he believed Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who could have a position in a possible Trump administration, was right about debunked vaccine claims.

Oct. 31, 2024
Howard Lutnick, the head of the team planning former President Donald J. Trump’s potential White House transition, said on Wednesday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had persuaded him to embrace Mr. Kennedy’s anti-vaccine claims, which have been widely debunked.
Mr. Trump has indicated that he might give Mr. Kennedy a position in his administration if he wins the election, something that could have profound implications for public health policy.
In an interview on CNN, Mr. Lutnick said he had spoken with Mr. Kennedy for two and a half hours this week, and repeated the false claim that childhood vaccines cause autism. That claim, usually proffered in relation to a vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella, stems from a 1998 study that was discredited and retracted.
He described Mr. Kennedy suggesting that vaccines had become unsafe because of a 1986 law shielding manufacturers from civil liability.
That law created a federal program to compensate people for adverse effects — which are very rare — as an alternative to liability for manufacturers. It did not change anything about safety and approval requirements for vaccines, which are extensively tested and must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Mr. Lutnick, seemingly dismissing the testing and approval requirements, asked CNN’s Kaitlan Collins: “Why do you think vaccines are safe? There’s no product liability anymore.”
He also repeated a common anti-vaccine talking point that some vaccines might be safe, but children receive too many. The number of vaccines in the recommended schedule has increased as new vaccines have been developed and shown in clinical trials to be safe and effective, and as researchers and public health officials have determined the optimal number of doses. But vaccines have been streamlined over the same period, meaning that even as the number of shots has increased, the amount of antigens they contain has significantly decreased.

Ms. Collins pushed back on Mr. Lutnick, emphasizing that vaccines are tested for safety, but he doubled down.
The Trump campaign denied a recent statement from Mr. Kennedy that he had been promised “control” of government health agencies, and in the CNN interview, Mr. Lutnick dismissed a suggestion that Mr. Kennedy would lead the Department of Health and Human Services. But he made clear that Mr. Kennedy’s views were likely to be influential in a Trump administration.
The criticism of the 1986 liability law was particularly notable because Casey Means, a doctor who is a contender to lead the F.D.A. if Mr. Trump wins, also condemned it in a recent newsletter. The law was intended to protect companies that were abandoning vaccine manufacturing because of frivolous lawsuits, and it compensates people who believe they have been harmed by vaccines without requiring them to prove fault on the part of the manufacturers.
Mr. Lutnick said Mr. Kennedy wanted access to data on vaccine safety — implying baselessly that it was being hidden — so he could prove vaccines were dangerous and compel companies to recall them.
“He wants the data so he can say these things are unsafe,” Mr. Lutnick said. “He says if you give me the data, all I want is the data, and I’ll take on the data and show that it’s not safe. And then if you pull the product liability, the companies will yank these vaccines right off of the markets.”
The day after Mr. Lutnick made his comments, an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast was released in which JD Vance, Mr. Trump’s running mate, also expressed skepticism about vaccines in an interview recorded earlier this week.
“The moment where I really started to get red-pilled on the whole vax thing was, the sickest that I’ve been in the last 15 years by far was when I took the vaccine,” Mr. Vance said, referring to the original Covid vaccines and describing normal immune-response side effects that, though unpleasant, are not dangerous.
“Red-pilled” is a term used by some people on the far right, stemming from the movie “The Matrix,” to refer to accepting what they believe is a reality that shadowy elites don’t want them to know.

National Review makes a fair point about Boeing's sweet deals
Boeing agreed to a plea deal with the Department of Justice over two deadly crashes of its 737 MAX aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia. The company pleaded guilty to defrauding the government by misleading regulators about an aircraft system that caused the crashes. Boeing will pay a fine of $243.6 million and be required to invest $455 million in safety, with an independent monitor overseeing the company for the next three years. But this should not be viewed as a purely private-sector failure. Boeing arguably benefits more from cronyism than any other U.S. company. The Export-Import Bank finances other countries’ purchases of its jets, including the 737 MAX series. The regulatory agency that Boeing has pleaded guilty to misleading, the Federal Aviation Administration, told Congress in June it was “too hands-off” in its oversight, after a door came off an Alaska Airlines Boeing. This extremely cozy relationship with government has been viewed as necessary for Boeing’s international competitiveness, but amid these safety concerns, orders are drying up and more customers are looking to Airbus for new planes. By preventing the case from going to trial, the DOJ is also likely preventing more information from coming to light about government complicity in Boeing’s failures.

Have they seen the Tenderloin?
San Francisco has discovered a new way to “solve” crime: Force businesses to close. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has unanimously decided to forcibly close retail food and tobacco businesses, not including restaurants and bars, from midnight to 5 a.m. in a designated “high-crime area” in the Tenderloin neighborhood. This is a two-year “pilot” plan in response to the “high rate of drug-related crime in the Tenderloin.” The Tenderloin Housing Clinic supported this decision, with its director of community organizing blaming businesses for “feeding into this ecosystem.” Evidently, it is the fault of these businesses for allowing drug-addicted homeless people and criminals to wreak havoc in the neighborhood, not the fault of the district attorney, law enforcement, or the Board of Supervisors for allowing these conditions in the first place. This is made all the more bizarre by the fact that the city had previously authorized a “safe” drug consumption center in the Tenderloin district. San Francisco had given the green light to allow drug addicts to shoot up whenever they wanted, a move that predictably backfired as the neighborhood became less safe and less sanitary, made worse by the city’s refusal to prosecute them or just about any other criminals. Now, the blame is falling on businesses that are being forced to close by a city that created this problem in the first place.***

Joe Biden had recently nominated Sarah Netburn, a woke activist judge for a lifetime position in the NY court system. This is the same judge that put a 6’2” convicted male pedophile in a women’s prison because he identified as a woman. He then exposed himself to female inmates.
However, it seems even this judge was just too much. Sarah Netburn's nomination was shot down on Thursday, preventing her from obtaining a lifelong seat in the NY court system.
LoT-T BTW - she was nominated to join the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

What about all the other ammunition on earth?
***The case was dismissed by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who ruled that the prosecution withheld potential evidence from Baldwin’s defense team — a collection of rounds that had been turned in to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office earlier this year and may have been connected to the shooting. The possible evidence related to the question of how live ammunition ended up on set and inside the revolver that killed Hutchins, a key element in the chain of events that led to her death. Marlowe Sommer said it was “intentional and deliberate” that the prosecution had not shared the live rounds with Baldwin’s attorneys for evaluation. The actor’s team argued that the evidence may have cast doubt on whether Gutierrez-Reed had brought the live ammunition to the set, and that it was concealed because it was favorable to Baldwin and undercut the prosecution’s argument that Baldwin should have known the armorer was young and inexperienced and therefore taken extra precautions. In her ruling, Marlowe Sommer said that Baldwin’s defense team should have been informed of the ammunition earlier and that it was now too late to be incorporated into their defense. That meant not even the declaration of a mistrial could remedy the situation, meaning the case had to be dismissed with prejudice.*** https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/2024/07/13/alec-baldwin-trial-dismissal-rust/

*** The issue emerged Thursday on the second day of the actor’s trial during defense questioning of sheriff’s crime scene technician Marissa Poppell. Baldwin lawyer Alex Spiro asked whether a “good Samaritan” had come into the sheriff’s office with the ammunition earlier this year at the end of the trial of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, for her role in Hutchins’ death. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison on an involuntary manslaughter conviction, which she is now appealing. The evidence was not put into the same file as the rest of the “Rust” case, and was not presented to Baldwin’s defense team when they examined the ballistics evidence in April. The man who supplied ammunition was a close friend of Gutierrez-Reed’s father, movie armorer Thell Reed. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey argued that the move from the men was part of an attempt by Reed to shift blame away from his daughter. “This is a wild goose chase that has no evidentiary value whatsoever,” Morrissey told the judge Friday. “This is just a man trying to protect his daughter.” The case’s other special prosecutor, Erlinda Ocampo Johnson, resigned from the case earlier Friday. Spiro asked whether she had resigned based on the evidence issues being discussed. Morrissey said she believed it was over the holding of the public hearing itself. Speaking outside the courthouse doors, Morrissey said she respects the judge’s decision but that there was no reason to believe the undisclosed evidence in question was related to the set of “Rust.” “The importance of the evidence was misconstrued by the defense attorneys,” she said. “We did everything humanly possible to bring justice to Halyna and to her family and we’re proud of the work we did.” https://www.denverpost.com/2024/07/12/alec-baldwin-criminal-case-dismissed-new-mexico-rust-cinematographer-killed
I heard that the DA said the rounds in question had never been in New Mexico. The rounds had never left Arizona at any time relevant to the case.
The prosecution can appeal this dismissal. I hope they succeed.

documents case dismissed
J. Cannon dismissed the charges in United States v. Trump, 23-cr-80101 (S.D.Fla. Jul. 15, 2024). The opinion and order is linked.
Former President Trump’s Motion to Dismiss Indictment Based on the Unlawful Appointment and Funding of Special Counsel Jack Smith is GRANTED in accordance with this Order [ECF No. 326]. The Superseding Indictment is DISMISSED because Special Counsel Smith’s appointment violates the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution. U.S. Const., Art. II, § 2, cl. 2. Special Counsel Smith’s use of a permanent indefinite appropriation also violates the Appropriations Clause, U.S. Const., Art. I, § 9, cl. 7, but the Court need not address the proper remedy for that funding violation given the dismissal on Appointments Clause grounds.***
The first is a challenge to his appointment under the Appointments Clause, which provides the exclusive means for appointing “Officers of the United States.” Article II, § 2, cl. 2. The Appointments Clause sets as a default rule that all “Officers of the United States”—whether “inferior” or “principal”—must be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Id. It then goes on to direct that “Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in Heads of Departments.” Id. For purposes of this Order, the Court accepts the Special Counsel’s contested view that he qualifies as an “inferior Officer,” not a “principal” one, although the Court expresses reservations about that proposition and addresses those arguments below. The Motion’s second challenge is rooted in the Appropriations Clause, which prohibits any money from being “drawn from the Treasury” unless such funding has been appropriated by an act of Congress. Art. I, § 9, cl. 7 (“No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law. . . .”).***
Jack Smith was appointed by the Attorney General, not the president. He was not confirmed by the Senate. His office was funded by a DoJ slush fund, not by Congress.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Navy has exonerated 256 Black sailors who were found to be unjustly punished in 1944 following a horrific port explosion that killed hundreds of service members and exposed racist double standards among the then-segregated ranks. On July 17, 1944, munitions being loaded onto a cargo ship detonated, causing secondary blasts that ignited 5,000 tons (4,535 metric tonnes) of explosives at Port Chicago naval weapons station near San Francisco. The explosion killed 320 sailors and civilians, nearly 75% of whom were Black, and injured another 400 personnel. Surviving Black sailors had to pick up the human remains and clear the blast site while white officers were granted leave to recuperate. The pier was a critical ammunition supply site for forces in the Pacific during World War II, and the job of loading those ships was left primarily to Black enlisted sailors overseen by white officers.*** https://apnews.com/article/navy-black-sailors-port-explosion-wwii-racism-df009fd75325758b15294e2fdad93729

Physical Therapy Clinic in New York City
What is the common cause of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a group of connective tissue disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and various other symptoms. There are several different types of EDS, and they are caused by mutations in different genes, which affect the structure and function of collagen, a key protein in connective tissues. Collagen provides strength and support to various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs.
The most common cause of EDS is genetic mutations that affect collagen production or its processing within the body. The specific gene mutations and the inheritance patterns can vary depending on the type of EDS. Some types of EDS are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, meaning that an affected individual has a 50% chance of passing the mutation on to their children. Other types may have different inheritance patterns.
It's important to note that there are different subtypes of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, including the hypermobile type (hEDS), classical type (cEDS), vascular type (vEDS), and others, each with its own distinct genetic basis and clinical features. Genetic testing and evaluation by a medical professional are typically necessary to determine the specific subtype of EDS and its underlying genetic cause in an affected individual.
What Is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) refers to a group of 13 different connective-tissue disorders that involve a genetic mutation in collagen and connective-tissue production and structure. Connective tissues are those that comprise and support the skin, blood vessels, bones, and other organs.
What Are Complications of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
Complications of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome include the following:
Increased risk for developing depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Risk of bleeding during surgery
Getting cuts and bruises easily
Pregnancy may be dangerous for some patients.
What Is the Life Expectancy of Someone With Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome typically progress slowly, and the prognosis depends upon the type of EDS and the severity of the condition.
Patients with the classical and hypermobility forms of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have a normal life expectancy.
About 80% of patients with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome will experience a major health event by age 40 and the life expectancy is shortened, with an average age of death of 48 years.
The lifespan of patients with the kyphoscoliosis type of EDS is decreased, due to the condition's effects on the vascular system and the potential for restrictive lung disease.
Understanding Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
To get a good understanding of the symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, it is essential first to understand what causes it. EDS is a genetic condition, so if you have it, it’s not your fault or the result of anything you did! Your genetics affects everything in your body, including the production of collagen, a protein that offers structure and support to the body’s connective tissues. Depending on the specific type of EDS (there are multiple subtypes like hEDS), your body will exhibit different symptoms. For example, it can cause connective tissues to be weak, stretchy, or breakable.
The symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can affect several body parts. That’s the reason you can talk to a group of people with EDS, and one person will have stomach issues while someone else will have really bad joint pain.
Here are some of the most typical signs: Joint Hypermobility, Skin Fragility, Non-Stop Pain, Fatigue, Gastrointestinal Symptoms, Cardiovascular Issues, Vision Issues, Oral Issues,
These are some of the more common symptoms of EDS. But it bears repeating that symptoms can vary widely from person to person, and while you might have one or two symptoms from the list above, someone else may have something completely different.
As I said from the start, reading about the symptoms of a particular disease can take you down a dark rabbit hole. The best thing to do is to talk to your doctor about what you’re experiencing and confirm if you might have EDS. There are multiple tests that can be done to see how likely it is, and you can confirm a diagnosis by consulting a geneticist.
We see many patients that have some of the symptoms of EDS, like joint hypermobility and persistent pain, but haven’t received an “official EDS diagnosis.” We were able to get rid of the pain and work through many of the issues so that they could significantly reduce the pain and get back to living everyday lives again. If you’re from the New York area, click here for a free consultation!
Handling the Symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
OK – so you have some of the symptoms of EDS, and maybe even an indication that you have EDS from your doctor. What can you do about it? Although there is no cure for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, there are numerous treatments and things you can do to live an amazing life!

Prince Harry Points to Stress, Tabloids as Factors in Meghan Markle's Miscarriage
"Harry & Meghan," a new Netflix docuseries on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, premiered this week, and already the couple's candid conversations on royal life, media, and their relationship are surprising viewers. In volume two of the series, released Dec. 15, Prince Harry opened up about wife Markle's miscarriage, which he asserts was a result of the tabloids' invasive presence in their lives. In 2019, Markle elected to take legal action against British conservative tabloid The Mail on Sunday (a sister paper to the Daily Mail), based on Markle's claim that the paper unlawfully published one of her private letters, per the BBC. At the time, Prince Harry released a statement saying, "The contents of a private letter were published unlawfully in an intentionally destructive manner to manipulate you, the reader, and further the divisive agenda of the media group in question . . . There comes a point when the only thing to do is to stand up to this behaviour, because it destroys people and destroys lives." Markle eventually won her case in January 2020 for copyright infringement and received a symbolic £1 in damages from The Mail on Sunday, as well as a formal apology from the publisher. In the docuseries, Prince Harry said, "I believe my wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did." "Now do we absolutely know that the miscarriage was created caused by that? Of course, we don't," he clarified, per People. "[But] bearing in mind the stress that caused the lack of sleep and the timing of the pregnancy, how many weeks in she was, I can say from what I saw, that miscarriage was created by what they were trying to do to her." It's very plausible that the situation with the Mail caused a lot of stress and suffering on Markle's part - but can stress cause a miscarriage? Medical organizations say no. Miscarriage, defined as the spontaneous loss of pregnancy before the 20th week, is usually caused by developmental issues in the fetus (often chromosomal abnormalities that the parent has no control over), according to the Mayo Clinic. It's a common misconception to link miscarriage to "your emotional state during pregnancy, such as being stressed or depressed," but there is no link between the two, the UK National Health Services says. And "while excessive stress isn't good for your overall health, there's no evidence that stress results in miscarriage," the Mayo Clinic confirms. There's often so much shame and stigma around miscarriage, and attributing the loss of pregnancy to stress can shift the focus - or fault - onto the birthing parent. The World Health Organization notes that the general advice to prevent miscarriage chiefly concerns lifestyle changes (maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, limiting caffeine, alcohol, drugs, and smoking, as well as controlling stress), but this "places the emphasis on lifestyle factors, which, in the absence of specific answers, can lead to women feeling guilty that they have caused their miscarriage." In reality, miscarriage can happen for many reasons that have nothing to do with the birthing parent's behaviors. Markle has made her own courageous effort to fight the stigma, penning an essay for The New York Times in November 2020 titled "The Losses We Share," in which she opened up about her experience miscarrying. "Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few," Markle wrote. "Yet despite the staggering commonality of this pain, the conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning." https://www.popsugar.com/family/prince-harry-meghan-markle-miscarriage-stress-49042640?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

"As someone who seems so vain enough to make such an observation, yes." Her pseudo-compliment to Clare didn't come off as genuine. Sure, the blonde didn't have some high-life as a ballerina in New York, but at least she had some freaking integrity and was secure enough in herself that she didn't have to put on a face to go out in the world like some. Then again, maybe it was so engrained for the redhead that her presentation to the world was important from being on stage and performing for masses. Nonetheless, Sloane lacked the self-awareness to even realize her comment was unnecessary.
"Wow, look at you trying to reach for the stars with that one," she applauded them rather sarcastically. If Clare hadn't sense that there was some authenticity in Axel she would have never stepped foot in his car to go to the clinic, return to meet him at the coffee shop, or even dare to stay in his home. The man was surprising her daily with his thoughtfulness and care towards her in such a short amount of time. Clare found no fault with Axel beyond his personal life matters with the redhead next to her. Why did she even bother inviting them to sit?
"Are you mad you no longer get all the attention?" she smirked. "That all this money you keep harping on no longer is just for you and the baby." Clare didn't need a damn dime from the man. She figured there was no harm in getting to know someone who made up half her DNA composition? Why did Sloane feel so bothered by it? "Hmmm...maybe you should. It makes you more bearable."
“I don’t think wearing sneakers and a formal dress would suit me, is that an issue with you?” It might only be four years between her and Clare but her apparent need to pick a pointless fight over their differing style choices showed that gap. If she knew what the other was thinking about Fia she’d probably smack her right in the middle of the party because that was her best friend, more like her sister, and the two of them had worked really hard to not explicitly talk about what a pain in the ass the arrival of Axel’s daughter in town was.
“Do you consider your father evil then?” She asked innocently, a sweet smile playing on her face, no investment in playing nice anymore because clearly Clare felt like being petty. Well, Sloane could do the same - she’d had enough practice in her life. She clearly had no grasp on the fact the woman was with Axel because she loved him and money had no baring on it. That she had bought the outfit she was wearing tonight herself without any help from Axel, not dining out on his credit card as much as the people around them probably believed. Did he pay for a lot? Yes, he did. Was that because she was to her core this sugar baby their relationship had started as? No, it wasn’t actually. “Then what are you doing here, because clearly you’re looking for something to make you feel whole, if it’s not anything to do with Axel it begs the question why you’re so content to ride the money aspect of this oh so evil ‘money, pride, and ego’ you talk about.” A roll of her eyes, hand on her stomach as the other rested against the back of her chair to her left as support. “Let me just check the GPS tracker I have on him - I don’t know Clare. Maybe he’s int he bathroom? We’re not attached at the hip at all times.” @clarexflannery
