"Everybody's got a tell. Trick is, play the man, not the hand. Everybody's got a tell, huh? What's yours? You're going to have to figure that one out for yourself."

No Exit is a horror thriller directed by Damien Power and based on Taylor Adams’ novel, this movie delivers a chilling, claustrophobic experience that’s perfect for fans of survival suspense.
The story unfolds at a visitor's center during a blizzard, where a group of strangers finds themselves trapped. The setting is bleak and isolating, amplifying the unease as the characters’ secrets bubble to the surface. The pacing is tight, clocking in at just under 90 minutes, and it wastes no time plunging into the tension. The cinematography makes great use of the snowy, confined space, turning the environment into a character of its own.
One standout is Havana Rose Liu as Darby, who carries the film with a raw, determined energy. She’s a flawed but relatable lead, navigating the chaos with grit and is such a strong protagonist without being a perfect person. She's fucked up and knows she's fucked up but never feels like a broken person.
But let’s talk about Danny Ramirez’s performance for a moment—his portrayal (without giving anything away) is almost magnetic. He brings a layered intensity to his role, charming and kind in a way that keeps you hooked without knowing why. The rest of the ensemble, including Dennis Haysbert and David Rysdahl, fills out the cast with solid, believable turns.
The film isn’t flawless—some plot points stretch believability, and there’s a touch of minor ableism in how Lars (played by Rysdahl) is nearly immediately singled out as the bad guy, which might irk some viewers. But it’s the kind of movie where the ride matters more than the nitpicks. When the plot kicks into overdrive it's a nonstop ride until the end.
Trigger warnings: Be aware that No Exit includes multiple scenes with guns (being used to shoot and threatened with), use of a nail gun, and a stabbing with a screwdriver. If those elements are tough for you, proceed with caution.
Overall, No Exit is a gripping, compact thriller with strong performances—Havana and Danny’s included—that’ll leave you on edge. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a solid pick for a snowy night in. I’d give it a 7.5/10.

Daniel on Ted’s Notebook | Testing Day 3 | pt.2
“[Lando] is normally pretty honest. So if he’s feeling a little down, maybe they expected to be a little quicker […] but for now, we’re hopefully a Q3 or top 10 car but to be much more than that, I think that’s probably getting too excited 😁😁😁”

Spoilers for No Exit under the cut
The movie kicks off with Darby (Havana Rose Liu), a recovering addict, breaking out of rehab to visit her dying mother. A blizzard forces her to hole up at a remote rest stop with four strangers: Ed (Dennis Haysbert), a former Marine; his wife Sandi (Dale Dickey), a maid; Ash (Danny Ramirez), a charismatic guy; and Lars (David Rysdahl), an awkward oddball. The tension ramps up when Darby discovers a kidnapped girl, Jay (Mila Harris), tied up in a van outside. From there, it’s a wild ride of deception, violence, and survival.
The first big twist hits early: Lars seems like the obvious suspect—he’s creepy, twitchy, and socially off. But the film pulls a fast one when it’s revealed that Ash and Lars are brothers working together on the kidnapping. Ash, the smooth-talker, is the real mastermind, and Lars is just his meek and almost submissive muscle. This shift flips the dynamic, making you rethink everyone’s role. Danny Ramirez nails Ash’s duality—charming one minute, ruthless the next—which is what makes his performance a highlight. Another small twist is that Ash and Lars work for a human trafficking ring and were never planning to give Jay back to her wealthy father, likely just take the money and sell her anyways.
Then comes the gut punch: Sandi’s in on it too. She’s not just a bystander; she’s complicit, having seen the kidnapping of Jay, her wealthy employer’s daughter. This betrayal stings because Sandi and Ed initially seem like the grounded, moral center of the group. Ed, however, is clueless about his wife’s involvement, and when the truth spills out, it’s heartbreaking. Dennis Haysbert brings a quiet nobility to Ed, making his eventual death—shot by Ash after trying to intervene—all the more tragic.
The violence escalates fast. Ash kills Sandi and Ed without hesitation once their usefulness runs out, showcasing his cold pragmatism. Lars meets a grisly end when he slips in Ed’s blood, driving a nail from a nail gun (already in his face from earlier chaos) into his brain—an unintentional but darkly poetic demise. Meanwhile, Darby’s resourcefulness shines. She snorts cocaine from a stash she found earlier to power through the pain of being nailed to a wall by Ash, yanking the nail out with a hammer in a brutal, visceral moment. It’s a clever nod to her addiction fueling her survival, though it sidesteps deeper exploration of her recovery arc.
The climax is a chaotic showdown. Darby and Jay escape to the car, but Ash pursues, lighting the rest stop on fire and shooting nails into the vehicle. A cop arrives just in time, but Ash takes matters into his own hands, pretending to be an innocent bystander trying to help Darby, getting her shot by the cop. Ash tries to strangle Darby to death but Darby grabs a screwdriver and stabs Ash in the neck. He either bleeds to death or chokes on his own blood judging from the gurgles he makes as he collapses next to Darby.
While Darby and Jay survive, battered but alive. The film closes with Darby back in rehab, 48 days sober, visited by her sister, suggesting a hopeful, if abrupt, resolution.
The twists—Ash and Lars as a team, Sandi’s betrayal—keep you on your toes, though some feel contrived, like Sandi’s reveal or the convenient cop arrival. The body count (Ed, Sandi, Lars and Ash) and the nail gun carnage lean into grisly thriller territory, but the lack of deeper character motivation can leave it feeling hollow. Still Havana and Danny's performances effectively are what make the film such a good watch.

Maybe I should actually get around to reading the Twilight Princess manga because I have postponed it since forever because Twilight Princess is my favourite (stay with me) so it's like the same problem with the Zelda movie because if the characters aren't exactly like I picture them in my head I'm worried it will just dislike it/change my relationship with the game 🧍‍♂️but I also have about 5 billion pictures of the manga saved on my pinterest so like I've been like steadily working towards appreciating it over the past year and a bit so I could actually quite like it but uhmmm anyways ...I think I actually need to get more normal
