Òk, because I am bored and waiting for my laundry to be done, I shall do my yearly post guessing who will be at Elsie. I should probably wait till we get actual information on the when and where (and if) but as I said I am bored.
Betsy Wolfe (obviously I guessed her last year but this seems like a no-brainer)
Josh Groban (again I’m going first with people I know Darren can just call up and invite)
Ashley D Kelley (she’s awesome and she’s a fan of Starkid)
Justin Tranter (either him or some cast members from Rise of The Pink Ladies - gotta have that musical TV representation)
One of the leads from New York New York? (not sure about this because I don’t really know much about either of them but still seems likely)

WEEKLY TAG WEDNESDAY
Happiest of birthdays to our dear @energievie who created today's birthday themed tag game. WHOOP WHOOP! 🥳
Thanks for the tag @deedala 🎉 @gallapiech 🤩 @vintagelacerosette 🙌
---
When is yours? 1st March
Where were you born? Switzerland.
How do you feel about your legal name? Are you using it online and/or IRL? Michelle is a nice name. I'm perfectly happy with it. I do however absolutely hate the Beales song I was named after. Think it's one of their worst songs. And I regularly forget that I have a middle name, not even cause I hate it or anything, purely because I think it's pointless. It's Aline.
How about your sign? Do you feel it "fits"? I'm Pisces. And I guess so..? I don't really know much about signs, but people who do tell me it fits, and I believe them. @celestialmickey - come and weigh in! haha
What's your earliest memory related to your birthday? Weirdly enough my earliest *birthday* memory that comes to mind is actually my brother's birthday, when he turned maybe 6? And I would have been 3? My parents had a weird thing about getting me small gifts on his birthday, because I was younger and they didn't want me to get upset I guess? Anyway. There's a photograph of him blowing out his birthday candles and me holding a little sheep stuffed toy that I got for his birthday. I remember loving that sheep a LOT! For my first birthday memory I actually don't really have one until about age 6 or 7? I had a birthday party in our party room and my mum made me invite the whole class, even though I wasn't friends with anyone at school. One of the girls gave me a doll as a present and I genuinly just didn't know what I was supposed to do with this thing and had no idea how to react when I unwrapped it... it was very awkward and I'm sure I was less than graceful. Not the best memory lol
What's one of the best gifts you've ever received? When I first moved to London I felt like I was required to go back to Switzerland for birthdays and Christmas celebrations, even though those were difficult, associated with a lot of bad memories, and never ever fun. I moved to London at the beginning of October with a suitcase of clothes and not much else, and we pretty immediately went on the Dirty Pretty Things break up tour, so i didn't even sleep in my new London room very much for the first 8 weeks. Going back to Switzerland for that Christmas was particularly hard because I hadn't been in London for long, I had barely any stuff that belonged to me, and there was a certain feeling of 'maybe it was just a long holiday, and I'm gonna wake up and live in Switzerland again', because I did a lot of extended holidays to follow bands around the UK in the two years leading up to my move so... yeah, it was rough. And then when I returned home to London Ruth and her mum had bought me my own bedsheets (zebra striped), and made up the bed in my room, and put a big bow on it, and I'm basically in floods of tears just thinking about it now. They made me a home that I was welcome in. And I’ll never forget that.
How about one of the best you've given yourself? I honestly can't think of anything that was a "birthday" gift to myself. hmmm. When I quit smoking I put £5 into a jar every day, that I wasn't spending on cigarettes, and then Ruth and I went to New York and attended Elsie Fest with my 'No Longer a Smoker' money, buying VIP tickets that came with awesome seats and a tonne of free booze... that was EXCELLENT! haha
What's your favourite cake flavour? Not a big fan of cake. I like raw cake batter an awful lot better than actual cake. So I now always ask for chocolate mousse for my birthday :)
How about your favourite flowers? Wild Flowers. And I quite like interesting twigs, too.
Have your ever thrown a birthday party? If yes, tell us about your favourite one. Oh yeah, I throw awesome parties. Here's just a few recent ones, or you can check out the Mys in the Kitchen tag for what may get served at my birthday parties... haha Though actually a couple of years post pandemic I wanted to have a brithday party, but keep it small and covid friendly, so I had a Cocktail & Cookie Icing party, which was so much fun!! I highly recommend everyone to throw a party at least once in their life, that includes like a fun workshop element. We had such a good time!
What's the ultimate birthday song?
Because it’s my birthday and people have to let me play it haha
There we have it! Birthday fun! Now it's your turn @deedala @ian-galagher @iandarling @darlingian @celestialmickey @crossmydna @too-schoolforcool @rereadanon @rutherinahobbit @the-rat-wins @tsuga-of-mars @heymrspatel @gallawitchxx x @iansw0rld @ohkate @palepinkgoat @lynne-monstr @loftec @sickness-health-all-that-shit @faejilly @junemermaid @jrooc @mikhailoisbaby @creepkinginc @francesrose3 @callivich @blue-disco-lights @sleepyfacetoughguy @stocious @spookygingerr @lingy910y @suzy-queued @greentealycheejelly @thepupperino

Darren Criss spoke exclusively with The Mirror about how he doesn't feel Glee needs to be redone amid the booming reboot culture
Singer and actor Darren Criss revealed whether he believes Glee should get a reboot.
The 37-year-old, who played Blaine in the hit Fox series, spoke with The Mirror US at Elsie Fest, Broadway's annual music festival. While many shows have gotten the reboot treatment like Boy Meets World, Saved By the Bell and That 70s Show, Darren doesn't feel like a Glee reboot would be necessary.
"I don't need to [reboot Glee] personally, but that's not to say I don't think it could happen, but it's, I'm the lowest ranking member of the totem pole that makes those kinds of decisions," he told us exclusively.
This comes after Glee creator Ryan Murphy teased the possibility of bringing the show back.
Speaking on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast in 2022, Ryan said, "I’m at the phase now with that show [Glee], you know, where it’s like, well, there’s been enough time. Like, maybe we should really re-examine it as a brand.
"You know, should we do a reboot of it in some way? Should we do a Broadway musical of it in some way?"
However, nothing has come of that since. Instead, Darren has teased a new project that he's especially excited for - his upcoming Broadway musical Maybe Happy Ending. In the musical, he stars as Oliver, a Helperbot, facing the stark reality of obsoleteness as his model becomes increasingly outdated.
Darren not only gave a first look at the title song at Elsie Fest but he also spoke with The Mirror about the upcoming show. "I just started rehearsing for a new show, maybe happy ending that we open previews in October and opens officially in November," he shared
He added: "I think it's very, very special and I'm, I've never really had that feeling about doing something before, which is not to say the things I did before weren't special. This one just keeps creeping up on me in a way that I am so delighted by and I feel like I'm part of something very, very unique that I'm very excited for people to see it."
Darren not only performed at Elsie Fest but he created the event. The festival launched in 2015 and ran every year up until 2021. This year, Elsie Fest returned after a two-year hiatus. When speaking on what it was like for the festival to be brought back, Darren revealed it was "an honor and a joy" to serve the theatre community.
"I'm just happy that there are still people here that are interested in this kind of an environment. The show, and this sounds like such a cliche, but it is made up of the fans," he said.
He continued: "This is not for our benefit, it is for theirs. Because, you know, I, sort of saw this hole in the market of there's this fan base that really loves to celebrate and perform this kind of material but doesn't have a venue to kind of let their hair down and kind of, you know, be a little unfettered. And so to be able to provide that is, is, is an honor and a joy as a huge musical theater fan."

It’s a shame that Elsie Fest is a no go this year. I’ve been able to attend four of them and have very much enjoyed them. I look forward to next year.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who liked or reblogged something from you! Get to know your mutuals and followers!
Ooh thank you! I've been sort of down lately so I will have to think hard for 5
My dog. My parents went away on a cruise and I've been looking after Bella for the last couple of weeks. I've enjoyed having her cuddly warmth next to me
Winter. I am trying to soak in as much of the cold winter air as possible because I know it will be gone soon. I'm also eating all the soups.
The fact that Elsie Fest is coming back. I have always enjoyed it in the past and while I know fandom has shrunk a lot even since the last Elsie, I hope we will get enough content online to make it a fun day for all of us. Even just guessing about the guests brings me some joy.
My flatmates have been so great this year. And I'm excited to go home to them because we have a couple of theatre dates lined up. Titanique here we come!
My family. I don't get to see my nieces and nephew very much because no one can afford to live in Sydney. But I will be getting a few hours with two of them on Monday.

After a three-year hiatus, the outdoor Broadway music festival Elsie Fest is returning to the city next month. The event brings together some of Broadway's biggest stars for a night of music and fun. "News All Day" anchor Shannan Ferry sat down with one of the co-creators of the festival, award-winning actor Darren Criss, to talk about this year's event. You can catch Elsie Fest at Pier 17 on Sunday, Sept. 8. Tickets are available on their website.

I was also wondering where they came up with the Lea thing and I'm pretty sure they just copied it from Wikipedia, where it was randomly added in in 2021 without a source.
I didn't know that. It is possible that Lea is one of the producers this year, but I don't think she was before and she definitely isn't a co-creator. I don't know how involved she would be as a producer, but with the birth of her second baby coming up soon (end of August/early September?), I don't think she is planning any work around the time of Elsie Fest.
I hope we will get at least one interview for Elsie Fest. Maybe Darren will clear things up.

some NF opinions
Decided that I want to post about NFs without reviewing each song like I did with Vidbir. Here's the first batch: Festivali i Këngës had several songs that I kiiiinda liked. Duje was not one of them. Në çdo hap, Vështirë, Kozmosi i dashurisë were the ones I liked, but not in a "I'd listen to it outside of ESC context" and more in "I would not completely hate it if they went to ESC" My favorite artist was definitely that one lady who did everyone's backing vocals. Special shoutout to 2 Farm for looking like evil Circus Mircus. Belgian Eurosong was probably the biggest disappointment so far. Not because the songs are THAT bad, but because Belgium is one of my favorite countries in ESC and their selection this year is just meh. We've got everything ranging from "Billboard hot 100 minor hits from 2013" (Hunter Falls) to "ESC 2011 non-qualifier" (Loredana). My pick would be Ça m’ennuie pas. Either of Gala's song and Oceanside are also ok I guess. Eesti Laul is mid as usual. Okay, maybe slightly better than last year. Tuju is the one I liked the most but it probably has less to do with the song and more with their awkward shtick in the MV. Tokimeki is cute but I'll listen to anything as long as it's in Japanese so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Venom seems to be one of the fan favorites and I tend to pick rock songs as my favorites in situations where there is nothing better, but not this time, sorry. It sounds like a lovechild of Three Days Grace and Nickelback and it is not even charmingly over-the-top edgy like Dark Side was in 2021. Benidorm Fest is alright. There is nothing outrageously bad, I'd give them that, but the selection does not feel as diverse as it was last year. Arcadia is 100% my favorite. The "might add to my Spotify playlist" kind of favorite, which is the highest praise I can give to a song. I have no hopes of it winning though. MESC and Selecția Națională are... dreadful. The songs are mediocre to very, very bad, and the production value, man... Romanian broadcaster did not even bother to release the songs so we have to make do with videos contestants filmed on their smartphones. Which still might be better than those awkward MESC videos. Like, at this point, when you have no remarkable songs and no money to make an entertaining show then why bother? Why just not go internal? MGP is, well about what you'd expect from MGP. Jowst's song is the worst excuse for a past contestant's return since Alexandr Rybak in 2018. She, Queen of the Kings runs to the hills, oh wait. I might like Elsie's and Eline's songs but I have to wait till the full songs are released to give my full judgment. Freya is fine, I won't be mad if it wins. Supernova is leagues, miles better than it was last year, but that's a very low bar to clear. Thank gods they've ditched the joke songs. Sway is my winner, no competition here. Inspo were my favorites last year and Sway feels like an improvement over Happy Place. Patrisha's song is also pretty good and I'm happy that the fandom seems to like both of them so maybe there's a chance that one of them wins. Weird trends I've noticed so far: neo-swing (Prohibition, Puppet, Guess What), drag queens (Skrellex, Sharonne, Greta Tude), Japanese... stuff. Artists, band names, song names, Slovenia's Joker Out has a very J-rock sound. Who knows, maybe we will see another Junko Enoshima cosplay this year.
