It's back: Trick or Treat 2024!
Happy autumn, everyone!
We’re super excited to be returning with our favourite event of the season! Broadly speaking, between the 19th and 31st of Oct you're welcome to come knocking on our door, asking for a Trick or Treat*!
* Some imagination will be required.
This event requires no sign-up. Usual pairings apply (FiKi preferably, or any fictional Dean/Aidan prtrayed characters).
Every day, there will be two new prompts available, one of the 'Trick' and one of the 'Treat' variety. Generally speaking, ‘Treat’ prompts are nice and ‘Trick’ prompts are not so nice/spooky. You pick one type. Prompts are not posted anywhere, so they remain a surprise until the first responses are posted.
If you wish to play on any particular day, please message @linane-art (via chat) with whichever type of prompt you've chosen and you'll be given, for example, a 'Trick Prompt for 25th of Oct'. You must finish one response before requesting another.
Create something inspired by your prompt. Could be fanfic, fanart, edit, even some sort of meta about one of your own Verses, if you wish. You can take however long you want (but remember, there will be a new prompt available tomorrow). There are no word limits.
Post the thing you created on your Tumblr. Tags are garbage, but if you wanna use it, it’s #GF’s Trick or Treat 2024
Message @linane-art (via chat) with a link to your response. This is so I can reblog it on GF.
If you wish to play again, simply request another prompt once you're ready.
Hope it all makes sense. As always, any questions - give us a shout!
Disclaimer: my life currently is hell of a badly botched kitchen re-fit job, and it's still ongoing. I am... not coping with it. At all. So with all my apologies, any incoming messages for this event are not necessarily monitored in real time, but periodically! I will do my best to stay on top.
Good luck!

Something sassy this way comes...
It probably reeks of horses, cheap wine and sex, and will challenge all three of you to a duel, all at once!
You'd think I'd have something written for it, but no. No writing. Only in my head.
Bonus fullsize Fili
Bonus fullsize Kili (if that's more of your jam)

FiKi Week by @gatheringfiki - Day 2 - 06.23.24
“Love doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints; it takes and it takes and we keep loving anyway.”
NEW AU - Outlander (1940s) AU
“So what will you do today?”
“Probably just read, and take whatever tea and treats that Mrs. Baird offers. And I might go out for a walk to look for that henge that Thorin mentioned last night.” Kili sat in the upholstered armchair in the corner of their room. His feet were tucked beneath him and he was curled forward around his book. It always reminded Fili of when they first met. Kili had been sitting in such a position, shoes off, and bare toes wedged between the seat cushion and the arm of the chair. Fine if it was your own chair, but decidedly not fine when said chair was in the University library. Fili had been instructed to inform this wayward patron that he needed to collect his things and leave and not to plan on returning unless he was going to remain fully clothed.
“Stone circle,” Fili corrected absently. He was doing up the buttons on his white shirt.
“What?”
“It’s a stone circle, not a henge. A henge is a circular earthen wall or ditch. A henge can have a stone circle, but you can have either without the other. Stonehenge has both.”
There was a spark of sarcasm in Kili’s reply, “Interesting.” He was decidedly more interested in how the circles were used and decorated than how they were constructed.
“It is,” Fili responded earnestly.
“I’ll go looking for a stone circle then.”
“Just don’t get lost. I can join you if you care to wait.”
Kili snorted.
“You’re right,” Fili acknowledged. “But do ask for directions, please? You’re as bad as Thorin.”
“I am not.”
“You both got lost on a street that had no intersecting streets. More than once.”
“I promise I’ll ask for directions.” Kili turned back to his book.
“Good.”
“I’ll see you later,” Kili said, not looking up from his book. “Don’t stay out too late looking at old and moldy papers.”
“I won’t,” Fili straightened his tie. “Don’t forget to eat something,” he teased.
Kili hummed and turned his face up for the quick kiss that he knew was coming without tearing his eyes off the page of his book.
“Love you.”
“Love you, too.”
“Kili!” Fili shouted into the rain. His voice was echoed by DI Fundinson and the handful of constables that he had been able to gather for a search party on such short notice.
Mrs. Baird had not seen Kili since he had gone out shortly after midday. When the hour had gotten late and the rain had gone from a gentle mist to a pounding deluge she had assumed that he had been with Fili at the Manor House. It had not been until Fili returned, dripping and cursing and willing to murder for a cup of hot tea, that anyone had realized that Kili was missing and had been for hours.
The locals knew the location of the stone circle that Kili had gone in search of. And one of the constables had quickly spotted the bicycle that Kili had borrowed leaned up against a tree near the main road out of town.
“Kili!”
Fili’s hair dripped in his eyes. His torch lit a small circle that was tightly enclosed by fat drops of rain.
“KILI!”
Mud sucked at his shoes. Heather and low hanging branches pulled at his clothes which were soaked all the way through.
He shouldn’t have let Kili go alone. He should have put personal projects and genealogy aside to indulge Kili’s interests.
Fili did enjoy seeing the old stones, looking at and trying to puzzle out what animals or figures  had been carved into the stones. Carvings that were interspersed with far newer scratchings of dates and initials that simultaneously amused and annoyed them both. But the stones did not hold his interest as long as they held Kili’s. Kili had notebooks filled with the painstakingly copied designs. His letters during the war frequently had at least one doodle in the margins, sometimes that doodle would take up an entire page or more as Kili worked through visual problems. Fili saw them so often that he even began to draw them when his mind drifted during some interminable meeting or another.
Fili could not see far in the rain. He did see other lights bobbing in the distance appearing and disappearing around trees, other searchers, or a low hill. It was dark in a way that Fili had hated for many years. The dark that seemed to suck and absorb any light that someone dared to put forth. He preferred to stay under the streetlights of Inverness, London, or any other city. But now that darkness made the search even harder.
Kili.
His voice was raw with shouting when a hand gripped his shoulder.
“They’re calling it a night, lad.”
“Did they find him?” Fili looked over Thorin’s shoulder where he could see the lights gathering together.
Thorin shook his head, flicking rain from the brim of his hat. “Dwalin said that he will have men out here with the first light. With as dark as it is we would only be feet away from him and we wouldn’t see him.”
But he’d hear us. Fili did not say that. Because if Kili could not hear them that opened the door to a whole host of possibilities that Fili did not even want to consider. “I should stay. Keep look—”
“You should go home,” DI Fundinson gruffly interrupted. “You’ll be no use to anybody if you are dead on your feet.”
Fili started to protest.
“Stay at the Manor House,” Thorin said. “It is closer.”
The next day brought sun.
But no sight of Kili.
They did find his old jacket with the frayed cuffs that he refused to replace inside of  the stone circle.
After a week of no new information DI Fundinson had trained dog handlers brought in from Edinburgh.
“I have more in my other account, but I’d have to go down to Oxford to access it.”
“That is a handsome sum,” DI Fundinson said. “I wouldn’t offer too much otherwise you’ll start to attract all kinds of malarkey. As it is, most of the calls won’t lead us anywhere.”
Fili roughly ran his hands through his hair and paced the study in the Manor House. He was aware of how he looked. He hadn’t properly slept in over two weeks. He could barely eat. He was wearing his belt a notch tighter than when he and Kili had arrived what seemed like an age ago.”
“I would give everything I have to find him.”
“Dwalin’s right,” Thorin said.
“We can always increase the amount in the future. It’s harder to decrease the amount.”
“Why would I want to decrease the reward?” Fili snapped.
Dwalin and Thorin shared a look, but said nothing.
“They’re saying that if I don’t take up my post with the new term then they’re going to find a replacement!” Fili shook the letter on the University letterhead.
Thorin looked up from his book. He closed it on his thumb. “It has been two terms…”
“But we haven’t found Kili yet.” Fili dropped into an open armchair. Most of the flat surfaces in the study were covered with books, papers, and other detritus of academic life. He scowled and stared out the windows at the snow capped hills and the low clouds that threatened more.
“There’s nothing to do but wait now.”
“I still look!”
“Those hills have been scoured. You can wait for news just as well at Oxford as you can here.”
“I don’t know…”
“I’ll keep you up to date. I’ll send along any news no matter how small. You need to start living again. Refill yourself a bit rather than just pouring yourself into this search. I know you love him, but you can’t just stay like this forever.”
Fili’s voice was small when he spoke, “I don’t know how much more I have to give.”
Thorin does not push him to explain.
Fili leaves in the end.
He moves into the small flat above the bakery that they had picked out together. It was a short walk for the college where Fili would be teaching and only a handful of steps from a grocer and a pub, and a bit further along there was the library and the green.
Kili had been excited to begin exploring the town; absorbing inspiration for his work from the architecture.
Fili did not jump up when the phone rang.
He would have leapt to his feet when he first arrived here. But he’s well settled into his faculty apartments at this point having been teaching for several terms already. The snow doesn’t stick around for long here. But even those dustings have ceased now that  spring has started to creep in. The apartment is less cold and drafty than it was a few weeks back.
But he sat down heavily when he heard the words that came down the line.
“We found him. He’s here.”
“Is he…?”
“He’s alive.”
Fili was on the next train north.
He thought that this was the end. He thought he had given all he would have to give.
But it was just the beginning.
Fili would give and  he would continue to give until he was no longer breathing.

(not) born in sin
written for FIKI WEEK hosted by @gatheringfiki, for the prompt:
“Love doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints; it takes and it takes and it takes, and we keep loving anyway.” ― Lin Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
Having a soulmate, at times, could be a curse.
Not everyone had the perfect soulmate – even evil, cruel people who killed and raped had soulmates, and how could that be fair? How could it be fair for them to have someone who’d love them so purely, even with everything they’d done?
How was it fair, when Fíli and Kíli – two honest, goodhearted men – were doomed to be each other’s soulmate when they were also brothers?
There weren’t any laws about having soulmates, but there were other laws that could go against the fact of having a soulmate. For one, if you were above the age of eighteen, you shouldn’t be in a relationship with someone who was underaged; you’d have to wait until they turned adults to pursue anything romantic with them.
In some places, two men or two women couldn’t be together romantically, or even if they could, they couldn’t get officially married. It was also frowned upon in some places for people with more than one soulmate to pursue all of their soulmates instead of choosing only one.
And, of course, the other law was that siblings weren’t allowed to be romantically – and mainly sexually – involved. The reason behind it had a lot to do with inbreeding, which wouldn’t be a problem for Fíli and Kíli, but it was seen as such an abnormal pairing that even couples who couldn’t reproduce were prohibited of being together.
Fíli had been the first to know about their bond; people would be able to see their own red thread of fate since his fifteenth birthday – they would look thin and muted if they were too far from their soulmate, but the closer they got, the thicker and redder it turned – until they met their soulmate in person, when the thread would shine gold and then disappear, as if locking them together.

I’ve been cleaning out my Google Docs and have found an absolute treasure trove of Hobbit porn fics I wrote a decade ago. Some were posted on AO3 and I later deleted them (mostly the Durincest stuff as more and more people started hating on incest pairings). Some were only posted to my old blog dedicated to Hobbit porn fics (dirtydwarfdick - which I eventually deleted and remade, but never re-posted those works). Some were written to like 80% but never finished and posted.
Most of them involve the Durins, but there’s actually very little Bagginshield. I still think some of them are quite good, though, so I’m thinking about adding them to my AO3 works. I’m a little nervous about backlash on some of them for their content (as mentioned, some contain incest, and others go heavy on innocence kink). I also don’t want people to think I’ve jumped ship from Bagginshield, because they are my primary ship in the Hobbit fandom (and always have been, I just had a lot of people asking me to write Durincest and Durins/others fics back in the day).
Somebody out there would like them, tho. So I guess I’ll go through them, do a quick edit, and post with an author’s note about when they were originally written and what’s been changed, then get back to writing my Bagginshield stuff.

Drabble Challenge 8 is now officially open!
We are only playing Sat - Sun, so please come back on Tumblr to check it often. (From now on until Sun/Mon midnight whatever time you’re on)
RULES ARE THE SAME AS LAST TIME - PLEASE READ UNDER THE CUT:
STEP 1: Pick one of the following prompts:
"On the count of three."
Early morning walks while it's still cool out
Hypnosis
Elmosolyodni: to slowly break out into a genuine smile when being overcome with emotions, like love or utter happiness.
Superpowers.
Marks of belonging
"I made a mistake of thinking 'this can't possibly get any weirder than this'. Sorry."
"You want me quiet? Mmmmmake me."
Buying/renting their first property and moving in together
Independent travel AU
Step 2: Write a quick response of at least 100 words (a classic drabble is 100 words, but we’re making concessions).
We won’t be counting, but the challenge here is to be concise, while having a clear link to the prompt you’re responding to. There is no upper limit, but remember the prompts get snatched pretty quick.
Fili/Kili or any fictional Dean/Aidan pairings, clearly mark your warnings etc.
Existing verses or brand new work are both fine.
Step 3: Refresh Tumblr and use the notes to check the last person that has reblogged this post with a response (IMPORTANT!)
Just ordinary reblogs to spread the word are ok (ignore those), but you’re looking specifically for the latest reblog that had a drabble added.
Step 4: Reblog from that person, adding your response. You also need to copy-paste the prompt list and REPLACE the one prompt you responded to with a brand new prompt (anything you like).
I.e. you claim one and you put one back. There are still 10 prompts.
Step 5: Format your post. Response text and updated prompts list MUST be hidden under the ‘Read more’ button.
Only 2 lines should be visible on the dashboard: 1) which prompt you’re claiming, pairing, rating, verse, possible warnings and 2) ‘Read more’.
Step 6: Tag your response: #Drabble Challenge 8 so that whoever wants to, can blacklist the whole event.
Next person:
Step 1: Find the latest reblog of this post with a response.
Step 2: Pick one of the prompts from the updated list (always find the latest reblog!)
Repeat Step 3, Step 4, Step 5, Step 6 etc. The list of prompts is forever evolving.
This event is meant to be snappy and fast, creating a caterpillar of reblogs, crawling all over your dashes.
How to resolve possible problems:
Two people writing responses at the same time for 2 different prompts from the same list. This is not a problem: So long as the second person responding finds the latest reblog, their prompt should still be available on the updated list. Only 1 prompt is replaced at a time.
Two people writing responses at the same time for the same prompt (AKA my prompt disappeared by now): Find the latest reblog, add your response and add your own prompt as number 11. From now on there are 11 prompts. However, this is meant to be snappy, so please don’t spend half a day writing 100 words…
Meanwhile, @linane-art will kick-start this, and provide the first example.
Have fun! Any questions - give us a shout. If it starts going wrong, there may be a mod reblog, setting it straight again.

Free Fanart Prints
Folks, I'm having a massive clearout, as I prepare to replace my kitchen. Among the things that are being chucked is a heap of my fanart prints, in A3 size, on regular paper or sometimes white cardboard. They cover most of the fanart I have ever drawn, except maybe for the really recent ones (haha, what recent ones?!)
Would anyone want any of those prints? If not, they will be disposed of - this is your last chance.
The prints are completely free, and you can have as many as you like (including all of them, if you wish, I have about 15x each), but I would ask you to cover all of the shipping cost, please, from the UK.
If you're interested, please let me know ASAP. They probably won't survive the weekend at the latest...

FiKi Week by @gatheringfiki - Day 3 - 06.24.24
Never have I known a soul more familiar than yours, more worn into softness, more moulded to the very shame of my fingers, so that they may curl in it and hold you fast and steady.
A/N: This isn't quite finished, but I'm not going to finish it tonight and I need to get tomorrow's piece done tomorrow... so... I ended it at what felt like a good point. It will continue in a couple of days when I have the other prompts filled. Until then... <3

Fast Car AU - Before
Fili’s house was quiet. His mother was out of town for the day. She had driven down to Fresno to see a show with some friends. They were even going to be staying the night in the city. She told Fili that she wouldn’t be back until around noon the next day. She had reminded him to take the bins to the curb in the morning, left $20 dollars on the fridge of pizza, and told him to behave himself.
“Why would I ruin my choir boy reputation?”
His mother had rolled her eyes with a smile before she backed the SUV out of the driveway.
//  Want to come over? - FeeD  //
// What’s on cable? - KiliO  //
//  Law and Order. American Dad. Movies featuring spiders. James Bond. The history channel is doing a Roman Empire weekend again. - FeeD  //
//  Hmm… Tempting… I’ll have to check my planner. - KiliO  //
//  Did I mention that the house is empty until tomorrow? And I’ve got pizza money? - FeeD  //
//  You mean that you have garlic bread knots money. - KiliO  //
//  So? Or do you have a better offer? - FeeD  //
//  Now that you mention it Max did say something about having a fifth of tekela… :p - KiliO  //
//  If that’s all it takes… ;) - FeeD  //
//  I’m not _that_ easy. - KiliO  //
//  Don’t I know it :p - FeeD  //
//  Rude. - KiliO  //
//  Do you need a ride? - FeeD  //
//  I’m at the library. I’ll just bike over when I finish up here. - KiliO  //
//  Can’t wait. - FeeD  //
They had settled for the Law and Order themed reruns. It was warm outside, but the house was dark and cool with the curtains drawn and the A/C running. Kili was stretched out on the chaise lounge of the couch. He was wearing jeans—he hated the way that his legs looked in shorts—and a dark band t-shirt, but he still had an afghan pulled over his legs. He also had a Fili draped over his lap. Fili had stretched out on the main body of the couch. He had his head on Kili’s lap and his arms around Kili’s waist. His face was pressed to Kili’s belly.
A commercial came on flooding the room with light and always being a bit louder than the show. Kili adjusted the volume down and dropped his head back on the couch cushion. He slipped his hand down the next of Fili’s shirt and absently massaged the muscles there.
Fili groaned and shifted to provide better access for Kili.
Kili chuckled. “I thought you were asleep.”
Fili stretched, toes pointing, legs stiffening, back arching before he relaxed again. “I was,” he nuzzled his face against Kili. “That feels nice,” he hunched his shoulders. “Dwalin’s been killing us at practice on the field and in the weight room. I’m just so exhausted. And sore,” he winced when Kili’s fingers worked over a particularly sensitive spot.
“That sounds like a you problem. You chose to do football again this year. You could have been a bum like me and done cross country or nothing.”
Fili grumbled. “And be the guy who didn’t get the pin his senior year?”
Kili rolled his eyes.
“Still sounds like a you problem.”
Fili retaliated by biting Kili’s stomach through the blanket and Kili’s shirt, but Kili still shouted in exaggerated pain.
The pizza box was open on the coffee table and the bread bites were balanced on the arm of the couch waiting for an errant arm or leg to knock it over. The two litre bottle of Sprite that they had been sharing sat where the two parts of the couch intersected. It was almost buried by the blanket when it had been pushed aside.
Neither of them knew what was playing on the television anymore.
“I forgot to ask earlier—are you staying the night?”
“I don’t know. Do you want me to?” Kili looked uncertain.
“Only if you want to,” Fili assured.
“I didn’t bring any of my stuff.”
Fili shrugged. “We’ve always got spare toothbrushes and stuff in the bathroom.”
“I don’t have clothes for tomorrow or pyjamas.”
“For tomorrow you can just borrow one of my shirts, but for tonight what makes you think you’ll be wearing clothes?” Fili asked with a lopsided grin. He caught his fingers under the exposed waistband of Kili’s underwear and gently snapped it.
Kili’s cheeks flushed even in the dim and flickering light of the television screen. He pulled away from Fili and looked over Fili’s shoulder before asking, “Do I… can I… do I have to…” he looked down. He pushed himself off Fili’s lap. Fili’s eyes were wide with concern.
“Hey…” Fili reached for Kili’s hand.
“Can I wear pyjamas?” Kili asked quietly.
“Of course you can!” the word rushed out of Fili. “I was just teasing. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I—”
“I know you were teasing,” Kili took Fili’s hand. “I just…” he sighed. “I don’t want anyone else to see me… I guess.”
“But we’re the only ones here?”
Kili looked away. “I know. I just…” he shrugged. “What if like your mom came home early or your uncle let himself in or… I don’t know…”
“Pyjamas it is.”
Kili’s smile was weak.
Fili pulled a pleading face. “Will I still get cuddles?”
Kili pushed Fili’s foot with his own. “Only if you let me have the last of the Sprite.”
“Deal.”
“Uncle Dwalin, can I ask you something?” Fili asked. He was watching Dwalin work on someone’s second-hand chopper.
“I’m not letting you skip out on fifty 40s just because I know your uncle,” Dwalin replied without looking up.
“Good to know. But that wasn’t what I was going to ask.”
“Shoot.”
“Do you know if Uncle Thorin is going to be using the cabin this weekend or next?”
“I dunno, why?”
Fili glanced to the open door of the work bay, “I’m just trying to help Kili feel more comfortable with… you know,” Fili lifted his shoulders. “And I thought hanging out at the cabin would help him feel safer, you know, less like his fuckhead dad’s going to walk in any minute.”
Dwalin rubbed a wrench with a rag, checked to see if the dirt had come off before resuming the motion. He looked at Fili. “And why are you asking me instead of Thorin?”
The tips of Fili’s ears turned pink. He stuffed his hands in his jeans. “I just… I figured you would know, I guess…” he kicked at a patch of dirt with his boot. “And thought you’d be less likely to tell my mom?” he finished hopefully.
Dwalin laughed at that. “Kid, your mother busts my balls about that stuff and has given more sex talks to more guys in the club than I can count, she’s not the one I’d be worried about finding out about you using your uncle’s cabin as a love shack.”
Fili’s flush deepened. “It wouldn’t be a love shack,” he said defensively. “Kili’s just a bit jumpy, and I think it’d be nice for him.”
“And you,” Dwalin teased.
Fili scowled.
The key for the cabin was hidden in a birdhouse that was shaped like a motorcycle’s fuel tank.
Kili crossed his arms, his sweatshirt that was at least two sizes too big hung from his sharp shoulders, and looked around. “Why are we up here again?”
Fili shrugged and fiddled with the lock. “I just thought that it’d be nice to get away from everything… everyone for a while.”
“It’s just going to be us up here?”
Fili looked over his shoulder, “Is that alright?”
“Yeah,” Kili grinned.
They had been up here many times before, sometimes with just Thorin, sometimes Dis, Thorin and Dwalin, Thorin and Dis, sometimes whole groups of the club. When that happened the area around the cabin would be filled with brightly coloured dome tents. They would roast marshmallows, hotdogs, toasted sandwiches in pie irons, chase each other with sparklers (depending on the fire warnings), play in the trees, and star gaze. All things that they remembered fondly.
“Can you get the cooler?” Fili asked, tossing his bag inside the now open door. “I’m going to open the windows, it smells like Thorin and Dwalin hotboxed it last time they were up here.”
They’d brought some basic sundries for the nearly two full days they’d be here—milk, cereal, materials to make toasties, energy drinks, boxed mac and cheese, chips, and packaged snacks. Kili busied himself putting things in the fridge while Fili did some dusting and pulled out the linens that had been sealed away from the dust.
The cabin was small. You walked onto a small porch before turning into the main living space. There was a couch to the left, a coffee table, and low bookshelves with games. Beyond that was a small kitchen table, the far wall had a fireplace with built-in bookcases. The books were mostly old thrillers, and books about the Sierra Nevada. The two chairs in front of the fireplace were well worn. There was a narrow kitchen, only room for one person, a cramped bathroom, and then a bedroom that was mostly filled with a king sized bed. The cabin often served as a base for hiking and backpacking, but all of that gear was stored in the  shed that was nearly as large as the cabin itself....
