“Kee. Move over.”
He scoots to the right without question, wiggling sleepily under the blankets while Fili climbs in, with his array of cold toes and poking knees invading Kili’s space.
“Did you have a bad dream?” Kili asks, gently tugging on Fili’s sleeve until his brother is squirming closer, slotting his chin in the crook between Kili’s neck and his thin shoulder.
“Yeah,” Fili mutters after a moment’s thought, and slings an arm over Kili’s waist.
Kili nods knowingly, his eyes already closed as their limbs rearrange themselves in a familiar tangle. Fili has hardly slept in his own bed at all, since coming home for his first winter break; not that Kili minds. They have a history of sneaking back and forth between each other’s cots anyway, and what uncle Thorin doesn’t know, he can’t scold them for.
Kili finds Fili’s hand with his own beneath the duvet, mumbling to himself in displeasure when his fingertips brush against the old scar there – the Pygmy Puff bite Fili took for him years ago, four fading dots imprinted painfully into the soft flesh between Fili’s thumb and forefinger.
“It’s all right,” Kili tells him, stroking the back of his brother’s hand soothingly. “You can sleep now. I will protect you.”
A little puff of air comes from Fili’s side, warm and tickly against Kili’s ear.
“Thanks, Kee.”

Gúðleifir
Before Kíli was born, his family was stripped of their ancestral homeland by the vile Smaug. Their people have been spread upon the winds in the last twenty years, making their lives at sea now while their island has been overrun.
A chance meeting when he hatched a plot on his own to try to fix things will have lasting repercussions. For Kíli. For his people. And for the ageless water Elemental he meets who agrees to help him reclaim his home.

Best slowburn I have read in a very very long while, now complete. Gripping plot, incredibly well built characters, mystery, struggle and among all this, a delicate, buddying relationship. This fanfic is a masterpiece, which deserves so much more love than it gets. You will want to read it in one go and then it will be a week later and you will re-emerge bleary-eyed and full of feels :)
I feel like I should apologise - I’ve been sat on this one for probably about 7 months >_<. Still, better late than never?
Things I have learned from this picture:
1. Drawing Water. Has everyone seen that? Because I will not be doing that again.
2. Freckles and waterdrops.
3. Highlighting that helps bring out shapes more.
Enjoy~!

There was only one thing better than flying on his bike, and that was flying with Kíli tucked tight against his back, arms around his waist.
Sometimes he plucked his brother from the air, heart pounding, eyes sharp with adrenaline, Ori’s voice in his ear. Kíli would whoop as he slammed into place, the sharp metallic scent of his hoverboots cutting off as he wrapped himself around Fíli, hot and wild. Sometimes he swung around to protect his brother, shields hissing as phaser fire bounced was absorbed and dispersed with an electric cackle that made him shiver.

When his brow has been furrowed for too long or he’s reached the predetermined number of sighs allowed in an hour that seemingly activates some alarm in Fili’s programming, he often finds a hot mug being placed down next to his workpad or pressed gently into his hands by tanned fingers.
“Life’s problems are often eased by hot milky drinks,” Fili will tell him, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair back behind his ear.
Kili will look down at his mug of what is undoubtedly coffee with an obscene amount of sugar and chuckle.
“There’s not even milk in this, Fili.”
Fili will dismiss this with a wave and a smile, “It’s the sentiment”
This is how Kili knows he’s loved.

I have been *dying* to make this photoset for ages! This AU doesn’t get nearly enough loving and indeed, there isn’t nearly enough of it either!

Linane-art and FuryNZ are proud to present our first HRBB entry:
Fires of Erebor by FuryNZ
Artwork (Fullsize) by Linane-art
(Please note this story will be posted in chapters by furynz. We hope you will enjoy the journey into this AU as much as we have enjoyed creating it.)
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
In a modernized Middle Earth, the Dwarves were driven from Erebor after fires took root in their mountain. Firefighting is a highly praised position, and when Thorin’s company is offered the job of creating the Fire Department of the newly re-established city of Dale, they take the offer to be nearer to Erebor. His nephews, Fili and Kili, come along and have their own journey of discovery along the way. The company is kept busy; fires are fairly common, and suspicions of a greater force at work exist. Will Thorin be able to reclaim the mountain, or members of the company suffer for his ambition?
Enjoy~

It’s been a great honour working with furynz on this and I can genuinely say that I had lots of fun drawing this and helping devise a fascinating new universe. I am forever in awe of Fury’s self-discipline and planning skills and the determination to create something so complex and gripping!
Unfortunately at the time of posting this I haven’t heard from the second author since the writer’s claims and I’m currently assuming that this is the only story linked to this artwork.

Roping the Wind
Fili is a cowboy who just wants to be able to find a place he can call home and people he can call his family. When he stumbles across what seems like the perfect job, will he be able to let his past go, or will it ruin everything?
Photoset by @linane-art, who was nice enough to make it for me because I am injured today. Full size Fili and Kili, too!
It’s still a work in progress, even if progress is slow. It’s not abandoned, I promise.
A little behind the scenes info - I grew up on a cattle ranch. We raised horses and cattle, with an odd assortment of the other types of livestock you’d expect. I’ve participated in round ups and rodeos, and spent a lot of time in the saddle. I’ve also had a fascination with the old “Wild West” and done a lot of traveling around ghost towns, historical spots, and the like. It made research a pleasure to do. After the scene with the ponies in An Unexpected Journey, I was talking with a friend about the dwarves as cowboys. Everything snowballed wildly out of control from there!

“Your…your eyes…,” Fíli trailed off, glancing down his ghostlike form to where his feet glided across the ground. He was walking. Walking without a cane, without any sort of aid. “H-how?” Fíli stuttered frightfully. Kíli’s face softened, and he reached out, gently caressing the side of Fíli’s face.
“Do not be afraid my Ra. The gods guide me. Lay down your arms,” he spoke, his voice like the wind. He stood tall, body shimmering in the moonlight. His hair swirled around his face like it had a life of its own, no longer contained beneath his headdress, and his feet and legs showed no sign of weakness. The jewels that adorned him glittered about his neck and shoulders, and his eyes glowed brightly to match them. Fíli had never felt fear such as he did in that moment. Not even amidst battle. It was impossible. He looked not at Kíli, but at a god.
“A-Amun,” Fíli wheezed, dropping his khopesh to the ground. He was frozen in place, not only by the soil his feet had sunk into, but by the command of a greater power. There was a strange pained smile upon the Pharaoh’s face, and his hand slipped away as he walked onwards, approaching the opposing commander.
— Your Place Among The Stars by @shinigami714
There are several stories I would kill to read an update on, but I keep coming back to this one again and again. It’s ancient Egypt AU, so spot on my jam, but more than that, @shinigami714 has got this ability to create Filis that are mysterious, hot and interesting, like you just want to thrust them into various situations just to see what they will do. And it keeps you hungry for more.
I’ll be honest, I’m really proud of my edits for this set:
Fullsize Pharaoh Kili
Fullsize Commander Fili
Bonus Alternative Fili, who doesn’t work as well for the photoset, but who’s much more in line with the original character design!
Hope you’ll like it!
