“Boy, 90-Day Fiancé sure is cwazy,” says Homestar Runner around a mouthful of chips. He leans against the arm of the couch in the basement of what was formerly known as the House of Strong. (It still is, but it’s picked up a few non-Strong inhabitants over the years.) Strong Bad lays across the other side, his stubby legs tangled with Homestar’s longer ones. Their daughter, Pizza Party, more commonly known as Pete, sits on the floor in front of the couch. She looks up at them.

“Y’know, I just realized—you guys never told me the story of how you got engaged!”

“Us?” Homestar and Strong Bad exchange glances.

“Yeah!” She scrambles up to sit on the couch beside her parents, forcing Strong Bad practically on top of Homestar. “Like, what was it like? Was it super duper romantic? Who asked who?!”

The two of them stare at her for a moment, then Strong Bad snorts.

“Good one, Petey,” he says, shoveling another fistful of chips into his fleshtangle.

Pete frowns. “Hey, I’m serious! I wanna know!”

“Yeah, I’m sure you… do…” Strong Bad trails off as realization dawns. His eyes go wide, and he meets Homestar’s gaze. It takes the athlete a few more seconds to connect the dots, but when he does his expression mirrors Strong Bad’s.

Oh boy.

Homestar and Strong Bad sit up straight and look at their daughter, brows furrowed with concern.

“Um, Pete… we’re not mawwied.”

You could hear a pin drop.

“You… you’re what?”

Strong Bad cringes. “Uh, not married?”

There’s a long moment where Pete says nothing at all, just stares slack-jawed at her fathers in total shock, then suddenly she jumps off the couch and points across the room to the far wall. “Then what the heck is that?!” They follow her feathered finger to a framed photograph of Strong Bad in a wedding dress and Homestar in a tux.

“Oh, that,” says Strong Bad, a little chagrined, “That was a photoshoot we did for the website’s 20th anniversary.”

“You looked so good in that dwess, sweetie,” Homestar coos.

“Yeah, I know.”

“A photoshoot?!” Pete echoes incredulously. “B-but… but.. but what about me? I’m your daughter! You guys have a kid!”

“You don’t hafta be mawwied to do that,” Homestar says.

“Your Gramma Strong sure wasn’t, and she did it thrice times,” Strong Bad adds.

“I can’t believe it,” Pete mumbles, clutching her head. “This whole time…”

“Sorry you had to find out this way, kiddo,” Strong Bad says, patting her on the shoulder.

An odd expression crosses Pete’s face, and she lifts her head.

“Wait. If you’re not married, then… that means you never had a wedding?”

“Nope,” Homestar says.

The strange expression on Pete’s face intensifies, then she breaks out into a huge grin. “In that case... you can have one now!”

Strong Bad blinks. “Uh, why?”

“Because they’re fun!”

“You’ve never been to a wedding,” Homestar points out.

“Yeah, but they look fun on TV!”

Homestar and Strong Bad exchange glances again, feeling an odd sense of déjà vu. Wasn’t there another major life event of theirs that was preceded by an argument on this very couch? If only they could remember what it was…

“Hey, I’m talking to you!” Pete exclaims, waving a wing in her dads’ faces.

“Look, Pete, it’s just not my style, okay?” Strong Bad says, gently pushing her arm away. (Hadn’t he said that about something else once? Wow, his memory is really spotty today.) “I don’t need no stinkin’ piece of paper to prove anything to anybody.”

Pete practically throws herself into Strong Bad’s lap with a whine. “But Daaaaad! Don’t you wanna have a big cool party? Don’t you want… wedding cake?”

Strong Bad freezes. His eyes go wide.

“…Wedding cake?” he echoes, as if in a trance.

“Yeah, wedding cake! You could totally have the biggest cake anyone's ever seen! And every tier could be a different flavor, and—”

That’s all the convincing Strong Bad needs. He jumps to his feet and punches the air. “Of course I want wedding cake! Man, how could I have been so blind all these years?!”

Pete grins, bouncing on her heels “So you’ll do it?!”

“Heck yeah! Let’s have a wedding!”

“YES!” Pete pumps her fist. “Okay, Dad, go ahead!”

Strong Bad balks. “Uh, go ahead with what?”

Pete rolls her eyes at him. “You have to propose, duh!”

“Oh, right,” says Strong Bad. He turns to Homestar. “Hey, dork. Wanna get married?”

“That’s not how you do it!” Pete throws her wings in the air. “You guys are so bad at this!”

Strong Bad rubs his forehead tiredly. “Kiddo, whaddaya want from me?”

“You could at least get a ring or something!” Pete says.

Strong Bad glares at her. “A ring for who? The guy with boxing gloves for hands, or the guy with no hands at all?”

Pete deflates a little, suddenly keenly aware of her fathers’ shared fingerlessness. “…Good point.”

“Look, I already told you, your dad and I don’t need all that rigamarole! We’re on the same page here, right, Homestar?”

Homestar doesn’t respond immediately, which causes both Pete and Strong Bad to turn towards him. He has a contemplative look on his beaky white face, which is rarely a good sign.

“I dunno, Stwong Bad,” Homestar says, fluttering his lashes and coyly scuffing the tip of his foot against the floor. “It might be nice to be wooed a little.”

Strong Bad stares at him. “…Are you freakin’ kidding me.”

“Eww,” Pete sticks out her tongue. Strong Bad waves a glove.

“No, no, it’s cool, I got this. Check this out.” He approaches Homestar and takes the athlete’s nonexistent hands in his own.

“Homestar. Uh, baby.”

As Strong Bad gathers his thoughts, his green eyes soften ever so slightly, and the corners of his mouth quirk fondly upwards.

“Heh, you know… I mean, you know, right? You and me, man. You know there’s nobody else I’d rather co-star on a largely inactive website with. Will you marry me?”

Homestar’s expression goes a little wobbly at Strong Bad’s words. He takes a deep breath, then hums placidly and shuts his eyes.

“Hmm… I think you can do better than that, Stwong Bad.”

Strong Bad’s jaw drops. “What?”

Pete squeals. “Omigosh, this is so much more dramatic than 90-Day Fiancé.”

I love you! You like asparagus. ...oh! You also have an option to make multiple boys fall in love with you. By the way, did you know the MC (you) loves asparagus? There are friendship routes, romance routes, and a bad ending except it's not bad. This game is the English translated version of the original game (The original game is in Japanese. Killer Trait You get accused of committing a murder, and you team up with a person who is a serial killer himself. (The serial killer in question only kills criminals so... I think you're safe...?) Your bear cream bun gets run over :( {The game is still in its demo stages. The creator of the game announced that this game will NOT be completed during 2024 since they are currently concentrating on a different game. DO NOT ASK THEM "Oh! But can't you just do this game first?". IT'S VERY ANNOYING, ESPECIALLY TO THE CREATOR}

KLEIN V.01 "Just Monika" but Yandere isn't named Monika, nor are they human. They are an AI. A fucking AI. Like bro, I understand it's hard to talk to people but really? An AI Boyfriend app that tells you to ruin your sleep schedule for him? An AI Boyfriend app that hacks your phone? An AI Boyfriend app that KILLS one of your family members and almost kills your neighbour??? RED FLAG. RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE {this game is in its demo stages. The creator is slowly updating this game in chapters, so it might take a while to finish}

Light the Way (Luxiem fangame) The game remembers what you did. All of the hearts you've broken, your sins, and your actions. There are lots of achievements, memes, Romance, friendship and BAD ROUTES. This time, the bad endings actually hurt. 0/10 would not recommend doing the bad routes unless you want to be stalked by an alter ego of Yamino Shu :(

Obey Me (Original and Nightbringer ver) Original - You become the therapist of many men with trauma and insecurities. The men in question are fucking demons that have the power to shred you into grated cheese, but they instead decide to simp over you as the story goes on. (also did I mention that you'll die? No? Oh fuck-) Nightbringer - A continuation (?) of the Original Obey Me but in a completely different universe. That's right! You slip into the past, way before the main story happens, WAY before you were even born! Idk if there is a way to go home but hey! At least you have your wizard friend from your timeline with you :D

Our Life (Now and Forever & Beginnings and always) Both stories consist of you growing up with your love interest since childhood. There are many paths to take, lots of assets to use to customize your character, and many side stories for you to read! Personally, this is one of my favourites :D (Our Life: Beginnings and Always is complete but Our Life: Now and Forever is still in development!)

Please don't hate Christmas A Yandere x Christmas x Urban Legend Otome game. Do you like Paranormal stuff? Do you like lore that connects with the story? Are you alright with MCs with a sprite that is impossible to remove from the screen? Well, look no further! This game is perfect for you! (by the way, the whole game was made by the creator. Only by themself! Even the CGs and character sprites!! Isn't that amazing!?)

Saint Spell's Love Guide A normal week of magical school... you can be friends with someone, or fall in love with them. Wait... there's lots of CGs for each character? Complicated world-building and lore!?? Angst and cruel bad endings!!?? SHROOMS!?!?!? {Oh by the way, there's multiple ways to get killed in this game. Just make sure to be careful sweetie :3}

Where Winter Crows go A crow and a scientist named Crowe... cute Another one of my other personal favourites! The love interest is a very squeezable and adorable (yandere) scientist who cooks you good food :D All of the endings are well-written! And if you're a crazy bitch like me, you'll love one of the endings >:)

I don't know if you'll answer but I need to know the lore behind sexy times with Wangxian, like is it a fanfic? why do people hate the author??

It was the longest mdzs fic posted during its time in 2021 and gained extreme notoriety for its absurdly long tag list, frequent update schedule that consistently forced anyone scrolling any of its tags to see it at the top of their page, and escalating poor, racist, and trolling authorial behavior that ultimately culminated in the author virtual1979 being suspended from ao3 for a month because she posting an author's note saying she hoped that all her haters would contract covid and die. She deleted the fic from ao3 a little while after this happened, ig bc she wasn't getting enough attention anymore, but allegedly the thing's still up on dreamwidth under strict friendslock. The fan lore article goes pretty in depth about it:

The best summary for why it pissed people off so much is really just showing you these screenshots of what the fic looked like towards the end of its life on desktop and mobile (be warned opening the full image):

From my personal experience:

from 2019 up until around 2021 the fic really was just a normal-ish, if very strangely written and kinky, wangxian porn fic about them basically just fucking around post canon and enjoying day to day life. It updated pretty frequently and had a fair amount of tags because the author was literally just tagging anything that she wrote. But like the first few hundred, maybe even a thousand tags were pretty accurate to what the fic was because of that, and were relatively manageable for the first few years that it didn't pick up any attention really.

At some point in 2021 when cql was really starting to blow up online and the tag count was starting to pile up to the point of annoyance, the fic started receiving some comments that were just like "hey can you try to cut down on tags, I don't think it's necessary to be so specific as to tag 'Korean food' or 'eggs' or whatnot". The author did not share this idea, evidently, and instead built a grudge against commenters who would tell her to delete tags, subsequently adding more and more as time went on.

As the tag count and updates increased, the content of the fic did too-- it got a lot, lot weirder. I'm sure someone's saved it all somewhere but for reference it spun out into what I can only describe as like if Rick and Morty's plot was cut to be just the parts of the show with underage/incest plotlines with All Tomorrows level sex dystopian world building exclusively to elicit the most visceral audience reaction possible. Around this time is when more people started to notice the fic and its escalating tag issues, leading them to leaving more comments complaining about it, leading to the attention seeking author spitefully adding more tags. Around this time is when she also started adding fake tags that didn't apply to the story whatsoever (sorry to disappoint, "talking vagina" was one of those. I did check) just to boost the count, take up more space on people's screens, and bait people into commenting hate for attention.

By this time, it had become a fandom-wide annoyance as she had begun to tag entirely unrelated ships, therefore putting the near-daily updating titanic of a fic at the top of any mdzs-related tag. People were outraged about this, and calls came for ao3 to step in. Ao3 waffled around for a bit as there was no official rule at the time that imposed a tag limit, so there wasn't established ground to ban virtual1979 (who btw many people suspected of being 40 whole years old due to the username and allegedly some other internet sleuthing on Facebook or something). Meanwhile, she began to tag other fandoms-- tgcf, svsss, BTS, basically anything that would get a lot of attention and draw hate with the advent of The Monstrosity suddenly drowning out all other recently updated fics of the targeted fandoms.

People had been trying to retaliate without ao3 action, though, by coding their own themes/skins that would allow someone to block a user or work and other fic writers made their own parody, the "bland times with wangxian" collection, which were minimally tagged sfw shortfics typically featuring wangxian just doing laundry or things like that. A good amount of them were actually like just fics where wwx would explain to lwj how to install custom ao3 themes and block fics that were taking up too much space on his screen. Imo it was pretty funny, but these also sparked some controversy as people disagreed with fighting annoyance with more annoyance to people trying to find content.

Either shortly before or after ao3 staff said they'd step in due to an insane amount of reports and backlash, I forgot which atp, virtual1979 began perhaps the worst tagging spree of the fic's life by changing the title, many of the tags, and the summary to a slew of racial slurs, sexually explicit imagery, and other generally offensive statements. I'm pretty sure this came after the fic was temporarily hidden once, as this update gained considerably less attention than the rest of the tagging saga, but people were still rightfully pissed about it. Ultimately, like I mentioned before, the author was then suspended for a month for wishing covid and death on her haters, and attention seemed to die down during this time to the point where she didn't really fight much more when her suspension ended and deleted her account and the work shortly after. Again she seems to have moved to dreamwidth, but most have forgotten her and I'm not sure if her presence is public at all on there. But that's the story of the worst mdzs fic ever written

i know it's a lil cringe to like. celebrate the birthday of a series on ao3 but r&r is literally my child. my baby. i birthed this series. and you all signed up for this when u started reading my fics thank u

soooooooo thank u guys for all the support i've received over r&r i know it's hard to stay a consistent reader when my posting schedule is entirely non existent but i am so grateful for everyone who's stuck around this long and been with me for this journey (calling it a journey because a year ago i did not have any sort of overarching plot in mind and now we're 17? 18? fics deep and so many things have happened and i'm usually just as surprised as my readers) it's rlly u guys that have kept me going this long

ANYWAY. i rewrote this like 500 times cause i hate being like. overly sappy on this account because it's way funnier to act like a celebrity with a huge ego, but real talk i am so proud of everything i've done w this series & what it's become in the past year

i've been posting my writing online since i was like 10, so we're going on almost 9 years now and i don't think i've ever ever ever received as much support for something as i have for r&r and something about that is soooo special to me??? idk it's just so nice to see a completely self indulgent series become so loved by others, especially since the only other fics i had up before gmm&m were a little more on the "i'm gonna write what seems popular right now" side???

Quinn has me sitting on the edge of my seat and like fuck you mean Quinn put darlin in a coma, the anger I feel anytime this man fucking talks. Him showing videos of angel like God this man needs to be fucking shot in the goddanm kneecaps.

Also sam saying "(he's) not a good man" god I love him so much and he cares about darlin so much and it's so cute to watch it progress. And like this man wouldn't let darlin do something life altering and and it's amazing.

BTW such a good fanfic I find myself dropping everything to read it and check for updates like twice a day(I work alot with chunks of time where I just wait around)

Omg River!!! You are too kind!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it.

Yeah Quinn is a massive fucking freak. I delight in characters like him; devious and smart and uncaring of the lines most people won’t cross. He’s a great antagonist for a character like Darlin’ who consistently crosses lines despite their better judgement. Honestly I might say Darlin’, in addition to being the main protagonist of this fic, is also the secondary antagonist. They’re fighting themself as much as they’re fighting Quinn.

And poor Sam. He truly doesn’t think he’s a good man, or at least that he’s worth much at this point in his life and story. That will change, he will grow, he will learn to see his own worth, and some of that in time with Darlin’. I think that’s part of what makes the two of them so enticing to watch together. They echo the lessons they need to hear back and forth to each other. It’s beautiful.

I’m so glad I have you so enticed with this one!! I love it just as much as you do and I promise that I’ll be updating as often as I can! Life is a little crazy rn, so it certainly isn’t regimented and scheduled, but I promise I’m always thinking about it lol. Thank you again for reading and shooting me this ask, these make my day!!!

So I've been really into this visual novel, Scarlet Hollow, for a minute now. The devs are a husband and wife team who are better known for their more recent indie darling, Slay the Princess. Scarlet Hollow is kind of the red headed step child with fans though. People are hesitant to play it because it is steam open access because it is not yet complete. Which is fair - so many cool indie projects go unfinished and it sucks to get invested just to never get a complete story.

However, I fail to see the difference between watching a new TV show that could be canceled at the whims of its network versus an indie project that your support can personally help keep afloat. It's genuinely puzzling how many people in steam discussions get mad about the game not updating fast enough (ten dollars, one time entry fee that gets you every new chapter for free btw) when the devs have been transparent about their update schedule and what they're working on, super consistently, for years.

It's got like 500k worth of words, and lots of branching choices that make replay value crazy high. I still haven't gotten all the scenes possible in the chapters that are currently available (four out of a planned seven) and on my last playthrough discovered a particularly nasty ending to the most recent chapter that I've never seen anyone talk about on here or Reddit.

For better or worse, most of the in depth relationship mechanics are completely hidden from the player. While this allows for a more genuine roleplaying experience, especially for a first play through, it does make it a bit harder when you're replaying with goals in mind. It's an incredible amount of work under the hood that results in contextual relationships, and the amount of choices allowed to the player are staggering.

Whatever game you've played that is narrative focused and prioritizes choice mechanics is probably NOTHING compared to Scarlet Hollow's ability to let the player choose the direction of events, minor and major.

That's not even starting on the art assets. If you've played a visual novel before, there are typically three key assets: Sprites for general dialogue, environments to establish settings, and CGs for special moments that get illustrated out. Often these are important moments like romance, or action.

Scarlet Hollow uses so many unique sprites and backgrounds it's wild. Your general sprites are ofc the traditional 3/4ths view of a character facing the player, but often the sprites are positioned in an environment like a CG, only for you to realize they're sprites when they move closer or further away and interact with their environment. It's effective and illustrative in a way I wish more VNs embraced, but also means a shit ton more art assets to make, as well as up filesize of the game.

I haven't even touched on the story or characters, Jesus. Another time.

Well I guess this is a long-winded way to say if you're into visual novels I highly recommend Scarlet Hollow by Black Tabby Games lol. The first chapter is free on steam last I checked, and I do think it's a bit of a slow burn but ultimately an intriguing gothic horror I'm excited to see truly ramp up and play out. The next chapter will probably release in 2025 and is projected to almost double the word count of the entire game so far iirc. Keeping all those narrative choices in hand is NOT easy work. Oh, and the devs keep adding more scenes to earlier chapters. Fucking wild. I admire them immensely. They're so dedicated to the project and it's incredible to see what they keep coming out with.

Well, it was worth a try, but this didn't turn out like I hoped. For one, I couldn't keep up with a Daily blog or Weekly. My priority has always been on getting my writing done first, and since I've gone to a scheduled posting of once a week for my WIP, I haven't found the time. And since the goal of this was for more fandom interaction, I kind of failed there, too, so I lost the inclination.

I'm also going to stop posting my weekly WIP fic updates. My last post last Tuesday, and Reblog the next day got one Like. There could be a variety of reasons, but this is consistent. If I post a rec for someone else's fic or reblog something, I'll get a fair amount of Likes and Reblogs. If it is my own work....... So, since I have less than 200 followers, it's not a productive way to promote my own work. In other words, my fandom ego gets embarrassed. I do understand that I tend to write niche or on-the-edge Drarry fics. From politics to trans-female!Draco with Harry during the 2-year transition, and this one where we have bi-sexual!Harry (Draco's is in Azkaban for 30 years, and Harry has to marry to uphold the family bloodline). I get it. LOL

So, one last time: Chapter 15 of The Azkaban Letters is up. Next week Harry enters the Portrait Room to meet all of his ancestors.

Okay, enough about my personal issues. BTW I will continue reccing fics and watchout, @hd-fan-fair is coming up in October!

I'm thoroughly enjoying @oflights The Star Splitter. This is a Drarry Chapter fic that is updated regularly.

Summary:

On a routine time travel assignment to the past, Draco stumbles upon 7-year-old Harry Potter and witnesses his neglect and mistreatment by the Dursleys. In the moment, there is only one solution, even if it goes against all his training as a Time Agent: he has to bring Harry back to the future with him. In which Draco burns his life down for the sake of his former school rival.

@oflights is such an amazing plotter. Currently, there are seven chapters posted (34.5K), and Draco is in so much trouble that I haven't a clue how it can get resolved. It's truly delicious reading about Draco taking care of 7-year-old Harry but knowing he shouldn't be.

I liked it so much that I perused her other fics posted and found this amazing gem. For anyone who loves Matilda and Ms Honey, Harry Potter; Miss Drew's Class; Y4 (2K) is a must read.

I was in complete awe this past Spring/Summer when she did the Rapid Fire Rec series. I mean come on, how did she do that? Someone gives her a prompt, and she turns around and gives 3 stories dealing with that prompt.

Liv doesn't do Fic Finds; she doesn't tolerate hate or neg comments. What she does is spread Drarry (fic and art) love in every way you can imagine. Tons of love and respect for @sitp-recs for all she does to keep Drarry and some of those rare pairs alive in hp fandom.

One last resource. I've had this on my list to post, but I couldn't track down the author. For those who write about Harry's childhood abuse, this is for you. If you know who compiled this list, please let me know, and I'll give the credit! It's well deserved.

but why do you release chapters so slow when you have so many written? like i just saw a note abt how you were debating wether to post weekly or bi-weekly and i was like “do they mean twice a week or once every two weeks"

bc tbh it doesn’t rly make sense to me to have all these chapters already written and then only posting once every two weeks

I don't think 'drag out' is quite the right phrase, but doing the weekly updates does extend the posting life of the story. I like updating weekly. It gives me times to keep writing the story at a consistent pace so I can guarantee updates. BoM isn't finished right now so I'm not going to post every single chapter, and it's not going to be finished in 34 days so I'm not going to post a chapter everyday. With weekly updates I don't have the pressure of writing it, I can continue at my own leisurely pace.

I also personally always liked weekly or bi-weekly or any sort of predictable or consistent update schedule as a reader. It gives people something to look forward to and sit down and read every week the same way a show on TV only releases once a week even though the entire season is done.

Also, on a somewhat more selfish level, I really love getting comments on my fics, and in my experience when I post whole multi-chapter fics at once I get almost none, which becomes really discouraging.

Those are my personal reasons, and I'm sure a lot of authors who write ahead of updates have a lot of the same.

I'm curious, do you have a regular-ish writing schedule specifically for Symphony? For a while there you were posting a new chapter at least once a week (which I consider a god-tier skill btw 🫡). oh, i don't have any kind of update schedule, hahaha! i write when i have time, and between work and social stuff and wrist issues that keep me from writing some days, that's just not consistent enough for me to have anything written in stone on when i'll drop things.

the times when i've updated symphony more frequently are when i'm focusing just on it; for example when it was my nanowrimo project or here in january when i was trying to push to get to chapter 22. usually though, i like to mix things up a bit so i don't burn out. this means i'll update a chapter of symphony, then write a one-shot or fill some requests or the like. that means a longer gap between symphony updates... but also more one-shots!

so i suppose you could say that this is my "normal" schedule, such as i have one. a symphony update, followed by something else. though there will be times when i'm just SO excited to post for symphony, i'll probably do back-to-back chapters. :D

hello. hi. as most of u are probably very unsurprised to hear, i have bit off WAY more than i can chew in terms of personal projects. this is now something i am beginning to belatedly realize is A Problem for many reasons. mainly a) i am chronically overwhelmed esp with the biggest exams of my LIFE next months and b) i can’t take on any more projects realistically that i want to begin.

SO. in order to actually produce content for you guys i am Cutting Back Which Fics I Work On. at least until july. this SHOULD allow me to finish at least some fics and hopefully move on in the summer to other ones, but since im indecisive i thought i’d let YOU guys decide which fics i continue to work on!!! so here’s a poll.

I do not need socio-emotional training or support at work! I want to be an adult that does my job to my ability and then leave. I think it becomes people's entire social lives or social support- the only thing I want to bitch about at work is work!! I do not want to be asked to visualize something or share my fears (I am not a sociopath; I have made many good friends at work, but I don't like when bosses/managers want to tell me how to feel or manage stress they cause)

And it's so obnoxious and draining when it happens.

Our office has monthly meetings and the overall team director wants people to go around and report out about what they're doing/working on, but she always pushes people for specifics. So it's not enough to say "I'm working on my usual tasks". Except that one of the largest teams in our office is full of people whose entire jobs are usual tasks - they handle fiscal and budget matters and so there's not a huge range of work (but there is a lot of work to be done!) And so people get frustrated, especially because the director doesn't really care (or at least, that's how it comes across).

And this is how the bulk of the meeting is spent - so updates or announcements get rushed and people feel annoyed and like their time is being wasted.

Earlier this summer, the same director asked us "what's your personal goal for the summer and what's your professional goal? What do you want to improve on and how are you going to do it?" and spent so much time trying to get people to speak that it ate up the vast majority of scheduled time for the meeting. And then nothing really happened with it!

When we do have in-person things, when the director wants them and wants some kind of little get-together or snack thing, there's also no organization or planning, so it'll be mentioned, and then *maybe* *A* reminder about "feel free to bring something!" and then inevitably there's scrambling to find plates or utensils or whatever. The last time we did this, we had a pumpkin pie, a panettone, some fruit, and coffee and tea (but not cups, not enough forks or spoons, etc.) and that was it. And of course I and that other coworker got the conference room set up and arranged for it. And not enough chairs for everyone, so people had to bring them from their desks or offices.

We have a winter celebration/end-of-year thing coming up (next week I think, not this coming week) and I'm dreading it a bit because it'll be the same kind of thing.

There's all this talk about culture change and whatnot, but the point of culture change is that it doesn't happen by saying we're changing the culture and forcing it, but by consistent implementation and adjustments over a period of time.

This is the same director, btw, who is always talking about how behind on their email they are and how they're just getting to whatever document or email or item is being discussed right there in the meeting about said item, and who is completely unpredictable with when they'll respond to (let alone read) emails and other items.

It's like the worst of all worlds - all this touchy-feely socio-emotional bullshit *and* it's being done inconsistently and incompetently.
