When a fic writer responds to your long comment with an equally long message, and it's like... are we flirting right now 😏... is that what we're doing? Should I sign my next comment with "xoxo" 💋? Should we get married 😘?

[Okay so I know the drama from last night has kinda blown over but I just want to give my thoughts on this matter in public.
If you ever try to claim that Leo hasn’t gotten special treatment from the writers in every iteration of turtles (maybe aside from the 80s cartoon and IDW), then you’re living an illusion. I’m sorry.
My proof?

Every single time.
“But Adam,” you cry, holding your teddy bears, “it’s a tradition by now! It always has to be Leo!”
Nah.

I can’t speak for Mirage and 2k3, but in 2k12? No way. It did not have to just be Leo.
Wanna know why? It’s actually a pretty neat secret I’ve been keeping from the writers--
Leonardo is not Hamato Yoshi’s only son.
What? Are you shocked to hear that he has THREE other adopted sons AND - and this is the real kicker - a LONG LOST BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER?
I think the writers forgot that too, actually.
Karai was written out of the episode for no reason. She did not have to be hospitalised in the previous episode. Because of that she didn’t get to attend her father’s funeral. She did not get to avenge him, nor did she get to avenge her mother (which is pretty hilarious considering that’s basically all she’s been written to do for the last two seasons).
“But Adam!” you cry, stomping your feet, “Leo made a promise to Karai or something!”
Okay but listen-- Shut up.
Family is a huge aspect of TMNT. The relationship between the brothers and April and Casey, and of course Splinter, is a huge mainstay for the franchise. Everyone was hurt by Splinter’s death (not that we really get to see that). They were supposed to take down Shredder as a team.
And let me tell you, it’s painfully obvious the writers don’t see ‘Leonardo’ in that word.
April and Casey getting booted out is alright to a lesser extent-- but holy fuck no they didn’t need to boot out the other turtles. And not in such pathetically embarrassing ways. Remember Mikey’s whole spirit dance? What the heck did that accomplish when he was wrecked not 10 seconds later? What, was it just visual eye-candy? Great going, guys.
And the point of knocking everyone out?
All so Leo could land the final blow.
You wanna know what that says to me? It says that the writers think Leo was the only one affected by Splinter’s death. I mean, after all, he’s the only one who gets to see his ghost ever. Leo obviously needs the final blow. He’s the only one that’s crushed. He’s the only one who’s lost their parental figure. He’s the only one that gets the privilege to avenge his family.
In other words -- Leo has always and will always be held on a pedestal above his brothers. And 2k12 has just made that so much worse with the way they’ve written everything around him. Mikey and Donnie have had SHIT for character development, and the only stuff Raph gets are repeats of previous episodes that never stick anyway.
Mikey and Donnie never get recognised for their efforts. Donnie performs a miracle feat of nature to save Raph from the Creep, but no-- it’s Leo that gets Raph’s thanks because he sat gawking at him for god knows how long. Mikey saves the world countless times but right after he’s back to just being “useless” and “an idiot” and the one who messes missions up. His brothers never seem to treat him any different. Mikey never develops because his family don’t develop. They have very little reason to doubt what he’s saying anymore-- especially when the evidence is right fucking in front of them (looking at you, Bat in the Belfry), but my fucking god they somehow STILL just treat him like he’s stupid. Just about anything Mikey accomplishes is played off for laughs/has no real meaning in the long run and it’s infuriating.
Leo is the only one who has had any consistent character growth (or decline, if you’d prefer) out of all four of them. Why? Because he’s the special boy. That’s why.

If you can’t see that at least, you’re in denial.]
