Something I say all the time about the sequel trilogy is that I absolutely love the characters and absolutely hate the story they were unlucky enough to end up in (especially Finn)
man. the star wars sequel trilogy could have been so good if they hadn't fucked it up
#no bc finn was such a compelling lead in tfa#(yes he was the lead)#a stormtrooper who was always suspicious of the first order defects from it when given the chance by saving/escaping w a resistance pilot?#who gains a new identity and understanding of himself when he fully joins the resistance??#and who is definitely force sensitive???#incredible#and john boyega played him so so well#i will never forgive the writers for screwing him over completely in tlj and tros#star wars#star wars sequel trilogy#star wars tfa#star wars tlj#star wars tros#athens rambles

cow milk is trash
1. There's no way, canonically, that Maul could've been save. There's also very few times in FF that he can be saved. He is who he is, and he can be nothing more.
2. Jester Mereel would've smacked Jango into the stratosphere for participating in the creation of the clones - and I stand by this.
3. Finn should've been a Jedi, and found Luke with Rey. His entire canon storyline should've belonged to Rose.
you come into my home and insult the milk of the bovine-
i’ll be honest - i’m not a huge maul fan, so i don’t feel like the expert. but i tend to agree with you. i don’t read much basically any maul fanfic, but i imagine the best of it would involve tragedy and a lot of “if only” (excluding aus where he isn’t raised as a sith, but then he’s basically a whole different guy). but as he is in canon? he literally survives bc of his rage, and i imagine by the time we meet him in tcw (and even tpm), he would probably die without it. so yes, firm agree.
ahhhh i go back and forth! it depends on your jaster interpretation i think (and mine changes often, to be fair). bc at his core jaster is a man who sees abandoned children and takes them in, and doesn’t believe in forcibly spreading mandalorian culture - so i do tend to lean towards agree on this. i think he’d be very sad to see that jango lost his way, and was willing to force these people to follow in his footsteps without so much as an attempt at kinship or community. yet another reason i leaned toward an au where jango did care about the clones haha.
agree. agree agree agree. god they fucked finn over SO. BAD. finn was the most compelling character in tfa and they just. they threw him away. and i’ve never thought about rose having finn’s canon role but i think with a few tweaks it could be so fucking sick! i feel like they would be cool parallel revolutionaries - rose finding people similar to her and her sister, whose families have been hurt by the first order, and finn leading a stormtrooper uprising (like in that one deleted scene).
#also: hi again friend! glad you like the circus!#i LOVE your username by the way#do you determine the future in the cracks of the cornbread#cornbreadastrology#t7 queries

The thing about Finn, to me though, is that they barely explored his connection to the Force!!! I always adopted the "Finn is the Force's Awakening" stance, and like, I didn't need him to be the Jedi, I love Rey as a Jedi, especially her ending with the new lightsaber, but I would've loved if they had explored what it means to be Force Sensitive and NOT be a Jedi/Sith. I think it's also a way they could've used Maz Kanata, since she has some line in TFA about knowing the Force despite not being a Jedi.
I also would've appreciated if the Stormtroopers defecting plot from the TROS had happened in TLJ, giving more time to explore that with Finn
Anyways, I love your art so much, both this Finnpoe piece, as well as your several Beaujester ones :))))
oh that is a pretty cool take on Finn being Force Sensitive I digg it! like digress from the dichotomy of Jedi/Sith and explore what it means to be force sensitive YEAH. YEAH.. and like... I'd have loved the arc of Stormtroopers deflecting too!! and Finn leading the charge! like... I'm a fan of how Finn was not a "chosen one" or someone special but literally just someone who made the right choice when it came down to it. That that is all it takes. Making the right choice. Defying years of indoctrination is not easy but I would've loved it if Finn led that charge of deflecting Stormtroopers! and we got to see more Stormtroopers join this cause, willingly. realizing they HAVE a choice to make in this, that what they'd been taught all along wasn't true by virtue of the brainwashing. I also would've loved it if they'd delved deeper into Finn finding his roots, an attempt at reconnecting his old Identity with the new one in making. I am personally a fan of Jedi!Finn bc hnnnnnn cool blue lightsaber go brrrrrrr and that moment from TFA where Finn makes his stand w the lightsaber against Kyle lives in my head rent free. I just think it was v sexie of him lol
but yeah, I would've loved to explore Finn's story bc THERE'S SO MUCH LORE THERE THAT COULD BE UTILIZED!! instead of whatever the fuck the sequels decided to focus and therefore flop on, lol. it Finn's story could've been SO COMPELLING esp as a Black man who deflects to the Rebel side bc he feels the conflict and still realizes that the troopers are nothing but fodder for The First Order. He deflects bc it's the Right Thing To Do from the first movie itself... how Poe is the first person he saves. The person he deflects FOR. OOF. that's some storytelling, that's a love story right there BABEYYY!!
#also thank u for liking my beaujes art#i care them <3#also this was such a good argument u made#if i thjnk abt it too much i'll spiral#love that for us 💖#mail tag

not to come off as a bitch but it’s 3am and this is literally my post that y’all are commenting on so i’ll say what I want.
this post is about Finn. ONLY. this post is about the sheer number of ticket sales and interest that existed ONLY because of Finn, because he was the only real compelling character given to us in the sequel trilogy, and from the way you guys are talking you are not actually the intended audience for this post bc Finn is not your primary concern despite him literally being the sole reason this post was written in the first place.
the last movie didn’t “tank Finn’s character,” it was the closest successor to TFA Finn we’re ever going to see. His convictions are clear, his opinions are respected, his relationships are strong, his leadership is followed and his mission is successful. TLJ which was not “so-so”, but downright atrocious, tanked his character. imo as a Finn fan, there is no excuse for watching TLJ, which made him the laughingstock that was chided and was literally and figuratively slapped across the face, and then deciding that TROS, the movie that actually allowed him some space to be a character with narrative weight and influence again, is where you draw the line. you can come out of watching TROS not feeling like someone wrote Finn in a sickening and deliberately malicious way. the same cannot be said for TLJ.
Less important, but I intentionally left the other yahoos out of this post bc quite frankly what happened to them was significantly less severe. Finn, Poe, and Rey were not “three of the most intriguing characters” in Star Wars. however, Finn himself is genuinely the most compelling of the sequel trilogy (and top teir as far as the rest of the saga goes) in the way that a main character should be, in the way that we as an audience were told from the beginning he would be. Poe and Rey did have potential, but there was not enough about them given in the material to carry them while lucasfilm waited until the last movie to give them any real seasoning. they truly tried to splice characters we’ve already seen together to make them feel new and not even properly back it up. but as I mentioned earlier, this post is not about them. it’s about Finn.
what and how you feel about the other aspect of the trilogy don’t apply hear bc this conversation is centered specially around Finn Only-Person-In-The-Trio-With-No-Surname-OR-EVEN-Chosen-Surname and the absolute bullshit behind luring black fans to come see Star Wars and then spit in their face for the next four years as if their money in support of what was sold as a black lead didnt literally fund the boring convoluted racist mess we actually received once we sat down in our chairs. The level of antiblackness required for lucasfilm to fuck up their own bag is one of the most maddening things I’ve ever seen and if that is not your primary focus behind reblogging this post then:
it is not for you.
Disney’s lucasfilm can kiss my ass but I’m really not gonna sit here and let ppl act like Finn himself didn’t secure HALF of the seats that allowed the sequel trilogy to be as big as it became in the first place. it flopped because they moved the focus away from his development because that’s when the trilogy was at its best. He was compelling. He was like the only interesting character in a sea of rehashing the same stuff over and over again and I’m really sick and tired of ppl acting like that didn’t happen
