I died a couple of times playing NNK1 on my first playthough because I got careless/lazy. (The final boss got me three times until I realized that I needed to change my familiar setup.)  I didn’t start dying on my first playthrough of NNK2 until the final boss fight in the LLL DLC because I’d finally found an enemy I couldn’t mindlessly button mash my way through. And I really think it’s a failure of game design if it took me until the DLC final boss to learn how to block attacks...

The DDD gauntlet works as a “quiz” of the basic combat mechanics in the same way that the previous part had a “quiz” of the non-combat mechanics: like the game itself saying “Ok, you think you’ve mastered these mechanics? Prove it to me.” The boss fights in the final DLC prove that the developers can make interesting and challenging boss fights, I wish that had carried over into the base game...

Anyways, thank you! I’m glad people are liking this rewrite, it’s been fun to write!

DISCLAIMER: I have neither written/made a video game in my life nor taken any sort of screenwriting course, this is just a hypothetical “if I could have edited Ni No Kuni Revenant Kingdom to solve these issues that I had with it″. I am not here to belittle the hours upon hours of work put into this game, or say/imply that I could’ve written it better (because from what I’ve read, the project was already over budget and this would’ve just been so much more expensive). This is pretty much just fanfiction/me working out what I didn’t like about Revenant Kingdom and what could’ve improved the bits that I did like through writing. Also SPOILER WARNING for Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch and Revenant Kingdom, plus all of their associated DLCs.

I've ended up changing my mind about hydropolis, I'll still be excited about rewriting but with some thinking and planning and other shit I will now say that the Broadleaf/Ding Dong Dell arc is going to even more exciting to rewrite >:)
