My name is Sean Gillam and I am currently enrolled as an undergraduate in the Mechanical Engineering program at the University of New Hampshire. I started classes as a freshman this semester and Engineering has definitely been a challenging, but interesting subject. My schedule this semester consists of Microeconomics, Calculus 1, Physics 1 and ME 441, all subjects I find very interesting. In ME 441, the course is based off of a program called "Solidworks," which is commonly used by engineers to design different parts and assemblies. This class requires an extensive amount of work each week including homework, labs, group projects, and studying for exams. I am proud of the amount of work that I have been putting into this course and am really enjoying the different tasks and projects that have been assigned. I enjoy group projects the most, as each of them has involved being creative and designing our own structures through teamwork and innovation.  I am looking forward to what's to come this school year and beyond as I take my journey through Mechanical Engineering.

My first semester of college was crazy, it went by really fast. I learned a lot about myself; and I made some great friends. I finished this semester with a 3.4 GPA. I was aiming for a 3.5, but it's okay. I really want a 4.0 in the spring. I did not get to be involved on campus, but I plan to change that next semester. I'm just happy that I didn't finish with any C's; and I did not fail any classes. I love USC; and I'm proud to be a gamecock.

I just finished up my last season with my college's (Hartwick College) field hockey team. I served as a captain for the last three years, and I'm transitioning into life without a team sport for the first time in 15 years! I finished the fall semester with a 4.0 GPA and I only have a few more nursing classes to take before graduation in May! I work two workstudy jobs, as a Spanish tutor and as a lifeguard. I have served as Vice President of three clubs and am preparing to train new members to take over the positions. I'm also looking forward to my nursing externship in the second half of the spring semester.

This fall semester has been quite an eventful time for me! I’ve been able to join a graduate lab regarding Neuroinformatics, I’ve received an internship position for health data analysis at UF Healthstreet, and I’ve also had the awesome opportunity to become a Resident Assistant for the fall! All the while maintaining a formidable GPA and overall academic status. I attribute a lot of my accomplishments to the assistance NLEAFCF has given me. Without a doubt, I would not have been able to make these great steps forward without this charitable foundation’s help. I am forever appreciative! Thank you!

My name Lauren Perri and I was recently granted your scholarship. I currently attend Arizona State University and my major is Secondary Education for Biological Sciences. This past semester, I got adjusted to the weather change from Chicago to Tempe and the college life of constant homework. I learned how to balance my time with homework and in my free time I prefer to lay by the pool or go hiking. I enjoy walking to and from class because the weather is, on average, 80 degrees!

With my dad having been permanently disabled and on Duty Disability Retirement from the Milwaukee Police Department, and being the youngest, my parents have done everything in their power to help me financially through college. So, any type of scholarship I receive greatly helps the financial burden of paying for college. At the present time, I am working on receiving my undergraduate degree in Radiologic Technology and am in the midst of my rigorous clinical rotation at a Level II Trauma Center. I proud to say that I have also recently been honored with membership in the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. I’m so very thankful to all who have made this possible. I’m very excited to be honored with this scholarship and am extremely appreciative of the support and am looking to “paying it forward” following my graduation.

My name is Jason Shandler, the recipient of the 2014 Vincent Bennett Jr. Memorial Scholarship. I am very excited to have the recipients featured on social media. It is a great way to show the donors that their investment in us is worth every penny. I am now in my Junior year at Cornell University studying Biological Sciences with a concentration in Genetics, Genomics, and Development. I plan to go to graduate school to become a genetic counselor. At Cornell I am part of Dr. Eric Richards's lab conducting research on the model plant organism Arabidopsis trying to understand the genes controlling the structure and function of the cell nucleus. I am also a part of the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board (CURB) working as a mentor to help fellow students find a research position of their own here on campus. I also hold a research position during the summer at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. There, I work with Dr. Andrea Viczian to research frog retina development in an effort to cure blindness. I am also on the Cornell Club Baseball team, traveling throughout the Northeast to play other teams. Thank you very much!
