I get called hen on the regular, my brother goes out with the lads. That 'nae happy' thing just makes me think of folks I know going 'I'm naw happy, not at aw' before going on a rant, or just 'I'm naw happy, man'. The Sean Bean/Outlander lass just absolutely makes me boke sometimes, not gonna lie, and even like, Hagrid's vernacular written down is terrible.

I think people think we just throw words in there, when really it's a full on dialect and language; we code switch on the regular between English and Scots.

I feel like one of these days I should make a 'Scots For Non-Scots Speakers' guide so that when someone's doing wee bits of writing with a Scottish character (like Jamie McCrimmon, but honestly any character), they can get the language right.

I know there aren't many Scots at all online, and especially not a huge number on a given platform, but it pains me how often you see like 'I'm nae happy' or similar.... that's. ouch. It's obvious when someone just substitutes the expected word from English to Scots and doesn't know how the language usually sounds when spoken by a fluent speaker.

HI HIII OUBSDFJNFSD- Don't be intimidated!!! I don't bite <333 But yeah, omg sites and stuff- !! Really intimidating when you start out I totally get it, BUTT It's not that difficult once you get the hang of it, 'cause from my experience, that slump mostly comes from just not knowing what to put and the overloady junk ykyk? But anyways, Yeah! I can talk about some things I learned while developing a portfolio website/landing page

First would be what you want to use it for! For this whole thing I'm just gonna use Weebly and Carrd as samples because they're both free. ANYWAYS, I use two websites for two things, first is a directory that includes almost all the links to my stuff, and the second is my actual main website as a portfolio and professional place to showcase my work to clients and potential employers. The directory is pretty simple since it's just a compilations to links, Carrd is pretty easy to use so I'd recommend this one if you just need one place to put your socials, commission info, and etc.

I put everything in sections and since I mostly use all of this for work in general, I showcase my work status and my website first and foremost!

Andd all of this is just links to stuff that might be important, I'd also recommend having navigation buttons on each page that helps with loading back to other part of your website, (beloww)

and as for my main site, it's a lot more complicated and I'm already babbling way too much in one post so I'll try to condense it pretty quick. Visuals can come later! Focus on what content you want to put in the site first. Usually it's sanctioned into three things: Your Portfolio/shop, a showcase for the services that you offer, and an about-me (I got inspiration from other sites like local brands and their shop websites and art portfolios) (oh and TOS is important too if you're an artist!)

You can of course add and not-add anything you please but that's the generalized gist of it and what worked for me personally. Once you know what to put then you can build up the website bit by bit, I'd recommend weebly for heavier sites like that because not only is it free but unlike carrd, it has no 'element limit'. the only drawback is a footer that advertises weebly on your website, and to me that's not that bad of a con really LOLOL some tips: *I'd recommend putting your best work forward than -all- of your work in a portfolio/gallery. Find what best showcases your talent, quality over quantity! *Find other portfolios/websites that align to what you're looking for, most artists you know prolly have their websites too so it's a good starting point to find inspiration on what to put! *and for actually learning how to use carrd and weebly's interfaces, its a WHOLLEEE other conversation I can't really divulge in without going on a ramble-bam sooo if you have any questions, i dont mind dms! I'd love to help :)) I think advertising and marketing yourself is really important (sometimes even moreso because yk how it is with art as a business), and I already went through the nittygritty of learning this all by myself so I'd love to help anyone that needs it, o7!!!! speaking of, what's a good book/series to start with if you wanna get proper into the lore side of things? i wanna get into the nittygritty of the setting more, but there's like 30 years of contradictory bullshit to get through i ain't reading all that.

I mean, the setting is so sprawling and messy that you can’t really get “proper into the lore” through one book or series.

Like, the Horus Heresy is a (questionably written) series that covers a lot of the context for the way different space marine chapters and elements of the Imperium are in 40k. But it’s also over 50 books that do in fact contain multiple decades of contradictory bullshit.

If you come at me with specific factions or events you wanna dive into, I can go from there, but one book/series doing a generalist deep dive? Ain’t a thing, I fear.

Honestly, the lore sections of codexes are a good way to brush up on the respective factions and their general history, if you can get your hands on ‘em. Don’t purchase them, though. Codexes are not worth money. Books yes, codexes no. Especially if you just want lore.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeey guess what's way more bad for your health than obesity? Especially because most of the time the real problem is doctors just telling their patients to lose weight before they'll bother running any tests? BEING REPEATEDLY STARVED.

Guess what F'lon tells Robinton in Masterharper of Pern. Did you guess that it's the bronze riders banded together to first starve the queen dragon? Did you guess that F'lon mentions the next time, they starved Jora too? Do you think it's likely the patriarchal head-up-ass bronzeriders decided to try it some more after F'lon died?

Interestingly, MHoP also shows Jora drinking excessively at the feasts, but nobody bothers mentioning that in later books or very often in the fandom. After all, handsome charming hero Robinton is known for drinking wine all the time, and we can't compare him to her. Or acknowledge that maybe it's a sign of Jora escaping her situation most accessible way she has.

Oh, and in one of the later books Robinton has a heart attack and gets his life saved by a combination of the dragons' psychic hold on him, and a Healer administering a tablet? Shouldn't the Weyr make an effort to have a Healer on hand, since they know if the rider dies the dragon dies, and they're desperate to keep those dragons alive?

Unless, of course, the Weyrleader is a controlling bastard who's also get a complex about "bothering" the Holders, in which case keeping away any outside influences looks like a great fucking idea.

Guess what happens in Dragonflight, when Lessa is a new queenrider with the ability to talk to any dragon she pleases?

R'gul and the rest of the bronzes manage to ISOLATE her enough that after TWO AND A HALF YEARS she DOESN'T KNOW HOW QUEEN FLIGHTS WORK.

The only woman she talks to is Manora. The lowest ranked riders she talks to are the wingseconds. She sees R'gul, the bronze council, and a handful of brownriders. She's isolated. We witness F'lar use physical violence agains her. She doesn't know what questions to ask. No one is telling her anything she could use to make her own choices.

And when she's finally told, in the last few minutes before Ramoth rises, she's come to hate R'gul so much that she threatens to suicide her own dragon if it looks like R'gul will win.

I said in the tags that the Pern fic is a conversation with canon, and it is, overall, but the conversation in Part Two is also very specifically an interrogation.

Can I tell you why I wanted Emily to play dnd with Matt?

Bc Brennen and Aabria are very much rule hard asses. Brian is as well but he also is married to her and quick enough on his feet to keep up with her.

But Brennen and Aabria are always caught off guard and it is hilarious. But also she thrives in their story telling which is very much whimsical and immersive.

Matt has a very different story telling from Aabria and Brennen who are very modern day magic and wild stories that if you are a modern thinker you will go far. I, 10/10, am here for it. I love stories like that for breakfast lunch and dinner.

I have not listened to much of NADNDPod but from what I have had Brian has a similar fantasy with modern concepts adapted to the story and make it fantasy.

Matt is high fantasy. He tells Tolkien level stories of mystic wonder. He wields dark grin nittygritty serious fantasy.

I wanna see my girl thrive there too. I wanna see my girl shine in a way that trips up Matt. I wanna see how she interacts with the world and what this strange brilliant woman comes up with. I want to see her smirks triumphantly. I want to see how she brings a party together. I want to see when Matt starts to laugh and when he realizes she pulled the right strings to make the rules her bitch.

To anyone who doesn’t know who she is- she will make you laugh, she will make you cry, she will make you cheer. She is a little weird and loves crones but she is best girl with the biggest heart.

I promise you will be addicted to her too.

thinking about the radical difference between downton abbey season one and suffragette (2015)… both are set (or at least partially set) in 1912 and yet the england they depict is vastly different

downton abbey season one would’ve been so much better if they drove sybil up to london and had her realise the like extent of the horrors she would be subjugated to if she actually became a full fledged suffragette instead of dojng whatever the hell she was doing back in ripon

like canonically the crawleys go to london for the season in 1914 so… surely they would’ve seen things happen. surely. you are lying if you’re telling me that sybil didn’t try to attend a rally at least once she was very very Very political after like episode 4??? anyways julian fellowes was a coward for denying us this plotline

and like i guess this just shows the difference in historical media; you’ve got the piece that clearly longs for a time before and you’ve got another that accurately (or at least semi-faithfully) retells a historical story without shying away from the dirty and nittygritty bits

13. What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?

That practice really does make you better. You're not going to get better unless you continue to write.

And to not wait til you're "in the mood" to write. Just set a time, sit down, work on it. If I let myself be dictated by "the muse" as far as when I "felt" like writing, nothing would ever get finished.

37. How do you choose where to end a chapter?

I outline and structure the beats of a story pretty extensively. Story structure and pacing as like, nittygritty technical craft, are some of my strengths as a writer, probably from all the years spent reading and analyzing other ppl's work. I'm exceptionally good at knowing what a story needs, though every story needs something different.

For Break Up AU, the first two chapters were always going to be all from the present timeline, starting with the Silverflint reunion at a holiday party. And these two are broken up into Chap One as the Holiday Party and all the Building Tensions and Unsaid History and Bullshit Smalltalk with no real communication finally reaching a boiling point, up til the moment they finally touch and acknowledge that they were always going to fall back into bed. That chapter ends with:

They’ve been careful not to touch all night, so when Flint reaches out to grasp Silver’s hand, it's like a spark on a powder keg. Flint squeezes Silver’s hand firmly, once, eyes still married to each other, and his tongue flicks out to wet his bottom lip. Silver gasps softly as Flint lets his fingers drift up and along the inside of Silver’s wrist, far too deliberate to be an accident. He caresses the skin there lightly, fingertips warm, far more intoxicating than the alcohol. Flint's touch ignites, sizzling along that small contact. It consumes all the oxygen in the room until Silver can't breathe. It is so much and yet nowhere near enough and Flint’s eyes—all night his goddamn eyes—he’s given up any appearance of restraint, staring at Silver like a ravenous shark scenting blood. Long moments pass and still Flint doesn't let go, tracing the veins of Silver’s inner wrist with his fingertips. It’s maddening, lighting up every nerve from his palm to his elbow to his cock, surging to life in his slacks. “Do you want to–” Flint begins in a rush, voice husky. “Yes,” Silver whispers before he can finish the sentence.

Chap Two is the desperate reunion sex and morning after.

And then after that reunion, chapter 3 begins with the first flashback to the pre-break up timeline, the night they met.

The reason for these specific breaks are because an in medias res start for something with two timelines is always going to be more interesting to read, and having those timelines be interlocking is going to create echoes and parallels and pain and juxtaposition that won't hit as hard read in chrono order. So for Break Up you see the reunion party and sex directly followed by the first meeting party. You can already see where they're headed in their beginning.

Specifically, breaking Chap One right after the moment they sort of crack composure completes an arc within the chapter itself, a tipping point, as well as sucking the reader along to the next chapter like a gravitational pull. We're right there with the boys, falling headlong back into each other.
