OH YEAH SURE!! 👀 I kinda went on a ramble so I'm tossing everything under a read more. LMAO

Basically if you know anything about the Need for Speed franchise or like Fast and Furious (the first few movies at least), or even Initial D it's heavily based off those vibes. (Middle school me was a sucker for Need for Speed: Underground and Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. 🙈💦)

Anyways, so it takes place in a large city (LA or Miami vibes)! There's a big underground street racing scene that's been going strong for decades now, despite it being heavily illegal. Growing to the point that there are professionally coordinated 'official' races. Tho there are spur of the moment races between individuals too.

Because of how illegal it is, it's not uncommon for some people to 'host' animatronics to do their driving for them. 'Host' is more of a palatable term rather than 'owned' considering the ethics of them being seen as sentient beings in some places. Hosting takes out the potential for bodily harm or death for the human they're in place of and also keeping their identity hidden. Typically these animatronics have a remote kill-switch put in them, so the host is able to wipe any traceable data (and literally fry the components in the process, leaving the animatronic brain dead essentially) if they're caught by police or they fall into the wrong hands.

Sun and Moon are big name duo racers in the underground street racing scene, and are hosted by Afton. They usually run in official high stakes races (big money prize pools/pink slips/etc). Sun favors the Porsche 992 GT3, and Moon prefers a Nissan GTR R35 Nismo. Both modded for performance (and fit their aesthetics, within reason of Afton's permission), of course. Afton has quite the car collection and may have them drive other cars he prefers in certain races at times. (He likes to show them and his cars off like prized show ponies.)

Y/N has always had a love for cars since their childhood, and ended up becoming a mechanic once they graduated. They didn't really get a taste of the street racing scene until a few years later, only vaguely knowing about small things here and there over the years. A friend of a friend who's into the scene invited Y/N along to one of the bigger races. There Y/N got to experience the culture firsthand and loved every minute of it. Tho the cops busted the race right before it began. Y/N got separated from the people they came with in the scattering crowd. Knocked down, they were almost hit by one of the racers peeling out, who happened to be Sun. Being the only one left in the middle of the street, on a split second whim Sun told them to get in and from there Y/N has been infatuated with the rush and excitement, and some interesting robots to boot. 👀

Y/N only owns a humble sports bike, but now they dream of getting their own car and into the racing scene themselves. Also hoping to meet Sun and Moon again.

O Britânico que 7 medalhas olímpicas no ciclismo , que passou a competir no automobilismo no British GT com Nissan GTR GT3 e com Ford Mustang GT4, ELMS na LMP2 e LMP3 com Ligier e Ginetta , competiu nas 24h Le Mans em 2016 na LMP2 com a Algarve Pró Racing em dupla com Michael Munemann e Andrea Pizzitola terminando em 17º na geral e na categoria em 12º, em 2019 competiu na etapa de Barcelona do mundial de rallycross , com  um Ford Fiesta da Xite Energy Racing em 15º , alem participar de etapas do British Rallycross na  categoria supercar.

So at first I was thinking, "showing a Nissan GTR crash at the Nordschleife is a bit questionable after what happened in 2015, right? …okay, let's just ignore that".

But then I looked into it more, and it turns out that this is actually the very same guy!

Right, sorry, back up. This movie tells the (presumably very heavily dramatised) story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player who took part in the GT Academy, which is a driver development program by Sony and Nissan, where leading E-Sports drivers get the opportunity to become real race car drivers. So yes, this movie by Sony and Nissan is the incredible unbelievable story of a thing that Sony and Nissan actually did do. As a result, Jann got a seat driving for Nissan's team, and since moved through a lot of different racing series, including GT4, GT3, Formula 3, GP3, GP2, various endurance series, Super GT, Super Formula… the list is long and largely irrelevant if you don't follow motor sports, but it seems like he is genuinely good, though there are plenty of other people in motorsports just as good or better. That's how it goes.

The Nordschleife (northern loop), specifically the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, is a famous old race track in the middle of nowhere in Germany. That part in the trailer where he spins is Nissan GT-R over grass next to red and white curbs, with the high barrier directly behind him, seems to be filmed right there at the Nordschleife. The race track is legendary, but due to safety reasons no longer used by Formula 1. It is still used by slower racing classes, including at the not-that-legendary but fun Nürburgring 24 hours and the shorter endurance races there. Give it a go if you're in the area, and use American definitions for "in the area", because you'll only find yourself in the immediate area if you want to go the Nürburgring already.

Anyway, at an endurance race in 2015 at the Nordschleife, there was a tragic accident: A car caught air underneath (in a moment of tragic irony, this was at a section called "Flugplatz", "air strip"), lifted up, and the aerodynamics suddenly acting like a wing caused it to fly over the safety fence into the spectators, killing one spectator.

The car was the GT3 version of the Nissan GTR, and the driver was this Jann Mardenborough (he was not seriously injured). From my understanding, this wasn't his fault. It was an accident caused by a series of unusual circumstances, and they since improved safety at the course (and limited the speeds of the cars) to prevent this from happening again.

So… is it inappropriate to show the Nordschleife as part of this driver's racing journey, or am I overthinking things?

…I am probably overthinking things. It's just a thing I noticed.

(I think there's a much more important discussion to be had about the casting of our main hero, who got a lot lighter skinned in the Hollywood version compared to real life.)

Notes:

This looks way too much like an ad for the game for me.

Specifically for the thing where Sony and Nissan did a contest together where they brought a top Gran Turismo player into an actual race car - it seems like they're really just doing a dramatised retelling of that thing, which is either a genius way to do a video game movie, or just self-aggrandisement. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Real life circuits include Le Mans (blue and yellow curbs) and the Red Bull Ring in Austria (the one with the big bull sculpture)

The rail yard is almost certainly hungarian. The one locomotive without numbers is definitely hungarian, the other with the numbers is an austrian class 2068 diesel switcher, probably currently assigned to Rail Cargo Hungary (RCH), the hungarian freight division of the austrian railways ÖBB.

The best way to tell is generally by the lights; the locomotive on the left has clear hungarian light assemblies. I think I should make a post about european railway light assemblies and how you can quickly tell trains based on them one of these days.

I spent all the time trying to figure out where I knew that one guy from (he was the dad in Black Widow) that I completely missed Legolas.

Based on a true story, yes. You made that competition to create that story, then you made a movie about your own competition, and when you do the next round of the competition, you can say "just like in the movies", all to sell more games and consoles.

That steer at the Red Bull Ring in Austria (yes, the race track is owned by the energy drink guys; guess who paid for that sculpture) seems like the kind of thing that should have a nickname, but I couldn't find any.

I love the cars of the bad guys. Gold Lamborghini Huracán GT3? Yeah, that's evil alright! Note that the name Lamborghini does not actually give them an advantage, GT3 has an elaborate "Balance of Performance" system that ensures all cars have the same level of speed around a track by dictating weight, power output, ride height and so on. If you're wondering whether there's ever any drama about this: Oh boy.

If I'm not completely mistaken, the one on the left is the newer EVO 2 version of the car, the one on the right is the older one (note the different front splitter line, the gold line at the bottom lip). Shouldn't be a huge difference, they're subject to the same balance of performance, but supposedly the newer one has better options for setting it up and adjusting it for a given track.

The fact that they have at least real GT3 cars, and at least shots of real LMP1 cars, implies that the behind-the-scenes of this movie may be way more interesting than the actual movie itself.

Is this the Nordschleife? I'm not a big Nordschleife guy, I've only been there twice (only to watch, I'm not taking my car on the track with all the lunatics), but between this and a few shots later in the trailer, I'm fairly certain that it is.

Not sure what that other track with the city background is. Probably something where it's really embarrassing that I don't know.

I think I can tell you the entirety of the plot of this movie right now, with all twists and turns, and I assume so can you.

Part of me goes, "oh, racing cars goo vroom! Gotta watch!"

But the other bigger part of me goes, "pay to watch a commercial for a video game promotional event!?"

A marca anunciou que vai correr na categoria GT300 com carros do regulamento Fia GT3 e derivados no caso do Subaru BRZ GT300 e Toyota GR86 GT300 e GT86 GT300 , essa  temporada a Nissan fora o GTR GT3 das equipes Tomei Sports e Kondo Racing que vai ter o Brasileiro João Paulo de Olivera como piloto, estará com o Fairlady Z GT300 com a equipe Gainer. Serie interessante se o modelo Fairlady Z tivesse uma versão em configuração GT3 , para correr em vários campeonatos do mundo , no Fia WEC, IMSA e GTWC em um futuro.
