Disgust rises from the depths of his chest as it burns, and it only gravitates him further to fall towards Nikolai; as if a plank of wood which has been favoured on one side, he slips, now on his knees. “My lord…” he states very grimly, as if he would be remarking upon the appearance of a decapitated corpse, a hand only preventing him from emptying himself. “Don’t be so shaken,” Nikolai whimpers with a shaky, soft voice, with a little shake to his head and a purse of his lips— beyond a doubt a mockery in hopes of aggravating him. As if he lived for the reaction, he did, actually, Ivan was sure of it, and his palms turned into tight fists as his gaunt-y knees began to hurt from being trailed along the imperfect wooden floor.

The funni name is definitely a big factor, but another part is probably how for a long time people suspected he was the first villager created, and then a couple years ago that actually got confirmed. He's considered sort of special for that I think.

Source. The site is originally in Japanese which is why it says Nikovan/Nicoban instead of Bob.

Purple is my favorite color, and I love cats. But I've never met Bob anywhere in game beyond HHP, so I do not understand why he's so popular.

I guess I should be grateful I don't have to decide between Lucky & Coco, but I think I will hate Bob for life if he wins it all.

honestly I think a lot of the reason he's popular is because his name is Bob?? I remember him being a fan favourite as far back as the WW days, and I bet he was a favourite in the GC days as well but I wasn't online back then. I just remember being a kid in that era and the name Bob was like THE funniest thing if you were like 10 or under. my guess is he gained traction as a meme character off of that initial start.
