I just listened to the latest episode of and that's what you really missed on Glee. Guests were two of the session/background singers. It was interesting to hear about that side of the work.
Nikki Leonti on how she ended up on Glee: „I signed a record deal when I was thirteen years old, and I was in the gospel world, touring all over the world. I was a Christian singer who got pregnant as a teenager. And you can't really do that. They took my songs off the radio and my records off the shelfs. That's how I got into session singing, because I lost all my work and I didn't know what I was going to do.“ Later she got a new record deal with Warner Brothers and booked gigs on late night shows, but then Warner Brothers got a new management and they dropped half the rooster. After that Tim Davis called and offered her a job as a session singer on Glee.
Nikki: Glee music was ever changing. You had a basic sound, a thread that went through all of the songs. That was the Glee sound, but stylistically it changed a lot. That's what made it so fun, and that's why they hired singers who could have diversity of sound, because you needed to.
What is the feeling that Glee leaves you with? It was such a special time for me. We had our own group of people and friendships that were happening behind the scenes. That was just such a big deal. Seeing the show take off. It changed TV at the time. It changed everything. We were a part of this growing, expanding, exploding situation that made us all excited of these opportunities and the possibilities and what that was like. We got to experience some of that excitement and it's something I'll never forget. It changed us. It was special. And you know, even though we were a little distanced from you guys, all of what you guys went through affected us, and all of the things during the show affected us behind the scenes and our hearts. Our hearts were always interconnected with the process, even though we were all doing it in separate spaces. It was a real like family experience.
Luke Edgemon started as a Warbler, but he wasn't happy in the spotlight. When they needed a guide vocal he was happy to do that and stayed with this line of work. He became the demo singer for Kevin at some point.
What is the feeling Glee leaves you with? Glee leaves me feeling happy because of things like this. I got so attached to being a moving part of a machine that often I took for granted what was happening in the moment, whether it be you know, twenty four hour sessions or just seeing people walk in like Sarah Jessica Parker to sing a lead vocal. And so I just have the happiest, warmest feelings about those times, even the times that we're filled with struggle or no sleep, because a family is often dysfunctional, and so I just always think of it as family. And I still talk to those singers even though we don't sing together much anymore on a daily basis. You know a lot of people just assume that you remember the money, and that's honestly, like the last thing that I think about, whether these relationships are lifelong or not. I know that those memories will always be there.

Darkest hour got me thinking about Sugar Dance and i fell down a rabbit hole of looking through the song credits in game. So heres some unortganised thoughts
Turns out Sugar Dance is not written or produced by the same guy as Darkest hour. Darkest hour was written by Jessi Collins Tom Salta and Emily Sanderson whilst Sugar Dance was produced and composed by J.D LeBlanc for Apollo Studios (Although it is still published by Ubisoft).
Going back up to Darkest Hour, Tom Salta is credited on the following songs as either a writer or producer (or both) alongside other writers:
All you gotta do (with Benjamin Samana)
All three Wanko Ni Mero Mero songs (with Reni Mimura)
Cosmic Party and Dagomba (as the sole producer)
Darkest Hour as stated above (with Jessi Collins and Emily Sanderson)
Drop the mambo (with Nikki Leonti, Letty Rivera and Angela Clemmons
Leila (with MC Rai and Basar Under)
Spectronizer (With Gomi Kazuhiko)
I thought that Darkest hour and All you gotta do were lyrically similar so it makes sense that its the same guy on both tracks, but I'm more surprised that Sugar dance wasn't worked on by Salta. In fact Sugar Dance is seemingly the only song that Leblanc has worked on as suggested by his Genius page. I cant find anything on Apollo studios in relation to Ubisoft either.
Its strange because Sugar Dance and All you gotta do sound similar in the sense of their lyrics being about continuing to dance, and it would make sense for them to be made by similar people.
Sugar Dance is just a strange and somewhat forgettable song, and it doesnt help that it was locked behind a code and All you gotta do was like the main song for the game up until Paca Dance in JD 2021
Paca dance was also not worked on by either Salta or Leblanc instead being worked on by a different set of people, and it is also lyrically similar.
All these songs have a similar style in the sense that they have some weird lyrics at times, like "Just heat it up and push it to the ground". I'd say that All you gotta do is the most cohesive of these songs and thn Darkest hour and Drop the mambo are tied for a close second. I never played Leila or spectronizer that much (I first played leila like last year) so i can't really comment on them. And then Oishii Oishii has that one part where it just goes "You are sweet monster!" whilst a picture of broccoli is i the background. When you think of it the reason a lot of the lyrics are like this is because of the French.
Another weird thing is that you'd also expect If you wanna party to also be written as the same people who worked on All you gotta do but surprisingly it isn't.
This is so unorganised but i just got bored and looked at the game credits. I mean its how i learnt that Jason Derulo's full name is Jason Joel Desrouleaux.

~Song of the Week~
So forget the worries of this life and let His love shine through And it'll be alright, everything'll be all right Let Jesus take the obstacles that stand in front of you And it'll be alright, everything will be all right...
This song is such a rarity. It’s no longer on Christian radio, and I’ve only been able to find it here on YouTube. As rare as it is though, it’s always been in my heart. Whenever things go wrong, or when my mind starts to listen to the lies, this song and its uplifting lyrics always bring me back to God. It’s also a prayer, asking questions that I often ask the Lord,
“Lately I've been thinkin', where is my life goin'? Has my life been shinin' bright, Is your spirit showin'?“
Then He shows me all that’s around me, and then I know that where I am is where I need to be~ 💙

Parenting Essentials #5 - Fighting Single Parent Stigma!
Parenting Essentials #5 – Fighting Single Parent Stigma!
Single Parent Stigma and the Church!
1/3 of all households are led by a single parent. (34%) Today’s single parents are struggling to engage with the church and with their faith. Being ‘alone’ and unsupported by the Christian culture is something solo parents often ‘feel’, no matter what a local community of faith might project.

The battle for single parents is real. It’s hard enough…

Exclusive Clip: Nikki & Rich Frontwoman Resurfaces on ‘America’s Got Talent’
yahoo
Tonight on America’s Got Talent, a “family band” eponymously called Edgar – featuring the husband-and-wife team of Nikki and Ryan Edgar and Nikki’s 16-year-old daughter, Jaslyn – will try out for the show. Like many TV talent competition hopefuls these days, Nikki is no newcomer to the music business, and some viewers may recognize her.
When new AGT judge and Got Talent franchise creator Simon Cowell speaks with Nikki, age 34, in the exclusive clip above, she alludes to “failed record deals” and specifically to her past as teen Christian music singer Nikki Leonti. Her first album, Shelter Me, reached #7 on the Contemporary Christian chart in 1998. However, when Nikki, a pastor’s daughter, got pregnant shortly after her 18th birthday, the CCM community shunned her -- and that part of her career was apparently over.
youtube
What Nikki doesn’t mention to Cowell and the rest of the judges, however, is her background as a Nashville-based background singer for artists like Carrie Underwood, or her past as one half of the retro neo-soul duo Nikki & Rich. Nikki & Rich released one album for Reprise Records in 2011, but despite some early buzz and critical acclaim, they never totally took off. Shortly after Nikki & Rich confirmed their split in January 2015, Nikki announced that she had founded the band Edgar with her new husband, whom she married in November 2014.
youtube
Tonight, Edgar audition with a cover of the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” and from the looks of the reaction here, it’s likely they’ll make it through to Las Vegas and even all the way to the live shows. From CCM to R&B to AGT, we’ll see if this moment is the beginning of a career rebirth for Nikki Leonti-Edgar.
Bonus clip: Below, check out Nikki and Ryan Edgar sharing the stage with the late, great Prince during his unannounced appearance the the W Hotel in Los Angeles in 2014!

It'll Be Alright
This song has been on my mind for so long, I had to share it with everyone. It's kind of an old song, like 1998-ish, I was about 5 or 6 when it came out. This is probably the first song I ever heard from Nikki Leonti....I heard her sing it live on TV with my mom. I was sitting on the floor in front of the TV and I was pretty entertained by her performance.
After that, I heard it a few times on the radio. Then, Nikki Leonti just kind of disappeared from music.....(look at my post "Shoelaces" for some info on Nikki).
Anyway, I will always remember Nikki Leonti for this amazing song. Even as a little kid, the message of this song always encourages me and makes me smile. The title itself should even give you a little bit of encouragement. Life's not always so bad, and no matter what's going on, with Jesus, everything will be alright.
Lately I've been thinkin', where is my life goin'?
Has my life been shinin' bright, Is your spirit showin'?
I don't wanna hide you, I wanna be like you, Oh Lord
And I often wonder, do I convey your message?
Am I an example of your love inside of me?
I just wanna know, Lord, that your love shows in me
These are questions I always ask about my life...but in reality...no matter how much we all try to show God's love in how we live....it's not easy. I know for me, lately it, it hasn't been too easy. People are real stupid sometimes. It's just another thing that shows how imperfect I am...because I know that despite how stupid I can be...God still gives me another chance.
So please forgive me if I doubt, sometimes I just fall down
You always pick me up, Lord, and I know that I'm forgiven
'Cause I know you are livin' in me
Through the crazy things that happen in this life, it's real hard to believe God will pull us through. However, in time you'll see where He's brought you and what He's saved you from if you hadn't turned to Him. People will tell you that God won't help you, you help yourself. Well, honestly I can oppose that by saying that I have tried to help myself and I ended up angry and with a hard heart. God comforts you.
So forget the worries of this life and let His love shine through
And it'll be alright, everything'll be all right
Jump over all the obstacles that stand in front of you
And it'll be alright, everything will be all right.
You'll see, it'll be alright
These words always make me realize that no matter how awful life can seem, when we remember how awesome and good God is, everything will be alright. When things come our way, don't go around them, don't run from them, but JUMP OVER them. In Christ we are overcomers.
Whenever things seem like they are not going my way, I always remember what this song says "it'll be alright, everything will be alright." And usually, everything is. God is always here for us. We just need to acknowledge His presence in our lives.
So if you need an answer, if you need to know what's true
Lay your heart upon the Savior, give it away
...
When the winds of change start to blow in your direction
Listen to what He has to say
Whatever state your life is in right now....remember that it will be alright. God is for you, not against you...even though that's hard to see sometimes. I know these words are something I really need to hear in this season of my life. Right now, no one but God is here to sharpen me and be a companion to me. It's rough right now, but I know that it'll be alright! =)
