Worrying about Halara Nightmare, Rain Code's non-binary beauty

Despite seemingly presenting as female at first impression, Halara Nightmare from (Master Detective Archive: Rain Code) is non-binary. Or, to be clearer about it, their character profile says that they "have no specified gender." However, they are described as "beautiful" to both men and women, which... yeah, I can see that. Halara definitely rocks that look.

Look at 'em sweeping that coat around. Every detective should rock an epic coat.

And they're more than a cool coat — Halara's a really compelling character! Like so many characters that've been born from the minds of Kazutaka Kodaka and his supporting team, Halara is an odd duck who possesses believable complexity thanks to a mix of positive and negative traits — some of which seem to come out of left field in the best way.

But here's the thing: I've been doing this for a while. I've seen all the raging discourse that follows video game/visual novel/anime characters such as Chihiro Fujisaki, Naoto Shirogane, and R/Luka Urushibara. So I know a significant chunk of players aren't going to just see Halara as another character participating in the larger narrative who happens to provide some nice diversity to the cast. Even though this is the kind of story where a massive amount of the cast isn't going to make it out alive, many would-be fans are going to take it extremely personally if Halara gets killed or — god forbid — winds up being a culprit at some point. Even MORESO if either of those happens in the first half of the game, for that matter. And worst of all... I can't even say that such a reaction would be wholly unjustified. Y'know?

That's why Halara isn't just a compelling non-binary character who could go any number of directions from my current point in the game; they're a powder keg waiting to go off. I love the representation, but... they also make me nervous.

I'm simultaneously both totally open to whatever story Kodaka wants to tell me AND crossing my fingers for Halara to avoid sparking a bunch of discourse.

Tends to be pretty quiet on stage and in interviews, but the other members say he becomes pretty talkative when off-stage/ off camera

Main songwriter for the band along with Sakito (wrote The World, DIRTY, Believe)

My own list in this post is anime, manga, games mostly but in the spreadsheet you can add anything.

Following my tierlist of them, I realized I should make a public list so theyre not just kept in my head, since I spent quite a while finding these characters. If you want to watch/play anything with trans or gnc characters, you can use this list.

They range from good rep to bad, characters viewed as "traps" or not taken seriously to ones that the whole fandom understands is trans. I've added trigger warnings to the characters and fandoms I know can be triggering. I've also put certain names in bold to show that they're a main character, but i've only watched a few on this list so some are missing.

I would add trigger warnings for "bury your gays" and similar tropes, but I want to avoid spoilers. Maybe you can look it up first if you're worried. I've tried to exclude characters that are referred to as hermaphrodites.

Headcanon 7. The life of Iguro Obanai.

Iguro first genuine hug come from Ruka when he was rescued. However it's take a while before Iguro let her approaching him because of his trauma. It's last about 10 minutes whiles he crying his heart out. He was afraid of woman but he's still craving of a mother's love.

Iguro often having a nightmare, he suffered insomnia for a while and afraid to sleep in a dark. When he was staying at Rengoku's household, Ruka sometimes singing lullaby for him and her sons to calm him down. Whenever he couldn't sleep, iguro's humming her lullaby and that habit were stayed until he was grown.

Every two weeks, Iguro will come visiting Rengoku's family grave to pay respect for Ruka and Kyujuro. He sit there and telling both of them about his current life, about shinjuro and Senjuro.

Most poems that iguro wrote is about his longing for freedom and the beauty of nature. He often give his poems, especially those about flowers and happiness to Kanroji. While he feel awkward to write about love, iguro did wrote some for Kanroji, admiring her beauty and kindness, but he never send those because of his lack of confidence and self hatred.

After he died, as kakushi collecting his stuff, shinazugawa request to keep a part of his haori as a remembrance of his bestfriend. He discovered various of letters and many unsend love poems to Kanroji. He then took it and send them to Kanroji's family for funeral.

For some reason, after the time passed, wildflowers started to bloom around his grave. White daisy, red little flowers naturally grow around it.

His mansion were turned into an orphanage as he request in his will. The orphanage still operated and maintained 100 years later by Ubayashiki family.
