Submitted by a lovely anon.
003: Cinna didnt actually die when beaten up in front of Katniss before the 75th Hunger Games. They kept Cinna just barely alive to watch Katniss in the games, expecting Katniss to die. When Katniss escaped from the arena, they burned Cinna alive.

I don’t know, but at least she makes music for herself, not to appeal to the youth. Love her.

I really don’t

i don’t particularly like katniss. she’s strong. She has a strong mind which u need in order to survive in the games, but she’s sort of mean
violet-sky reblogged your link: A question for fans of The...
I do like Katniss, but not because I think she’s amazing, etc. I think her character is relatable, because she’s not perfect and she admits her faults, she admits that she hurts the people around her, she’s scared and vulnerable. I don’t think Katniss was written to be the most likeable character, I think that was meant to be Peeta, but she is a strong character, because she knows its (mostly) because of her thoughtless actions that have created the situation.
blondspike answered your question: A question for fans of The...
Because she isn’t likeable, but she tries to do the right thing. She is loyal and independent, and she has strength of character
nightlockk answered your question: A question for fans of The...
*Everdeen. Because she’s a strong female character as opposed to characters like - bella. She and she’s just- something we can relate to.

i really don’t like her, too.

I replied to your original post about her, singing your praises because I too am not fond of Katniss. While reading the series, I just kept thinking “This must be how all those Catcher and the Rye haters feel about Holden.” But my dad, who writes reviews on young adult novels, says she’s an independent and strong-minded female, which rarely happens in YA books. Yes, she’s selfish and stubborn, but so are most 14-16 year olds. I bet if I read these books when I was fifteen, I would have loved her. At least she’s not Bella, who’s life depends on having a man.
Okay this ended up being really long so I'm putting it under a cut.
One or two spoilers in there too.
Thanks everyone for replying, to those that don't like her either I can take comfort in the fact that I'm not just some cynical weirdo, so thanks :P
To those who say that Katniss is strong or strong-minded, and interestingly enough say that she isn't like Bella, I just... what, in your minds, does strong-minded mean? Because I honestly couldn't help finding her too similar to Bella for my liking, and to me, someone who can't wait for an opportunity to kill herself (seriously, I wish I'd had the foresight to make highlights on my kindle for how many times she wants to) just because it would be easier for her. And, I'm honestly a little bit confused, because she gets called out on how selfish and horrible she is, and she calls her self out on it too, and yet are we still supposed to like her? You guys still like her? She is what, 16-17? Which is a young adult. Not many people I know that age want to be called a child, and yet she acts like one over and over again. She hides in closets instead of facing up or training or being the mockingjay, she is selfish, people have to treat her with child gloves because she could blow up at any moment, do something stupid and reckless (like killing herself) and everyone knows it. She throws herself a pity party at every moment.
@blondspike, when does she try to do the right thing? She is so annoyed at being used for the goddamn rebellion against a government who kills children that she doesn't want to be the mockingjay. She wants to run away and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. She is so reluctant to take up the mantle. How is that wanting to do the right thing? Who is she loyal to? Not Peeta, not Gale. She leads both of them on and breaks both of their hearts. She only thinks of them in terms of her own survival, she knows it and they know it. She is only loyal to herself, and maybe Prim, though fat lot of good that did Prim in the end, huh?
@violet-sky and @nightlockk, I understand wanting to relate to characters. The thing is that you cannot possible know how you would act in a situation until you get there, so you want to look up to people who act how you think you would like to act if such situation ever arose. I understand the needs for a character to have flaws, because don't we all, and that makes them so much more real for us, but when a character is all flaws, I would worry if I was trying to relate to her too much, or using her for inspiration. The fact of her admitting her flaws doesn't make it a virtue, in fact it's worse because she knows and yet does nothing about it. Don't we all want to try and better ourselves? Be the best that we can be? Hope that we can be good people and do the right thing by our moral codes in any given situation? Katniss does not try to better herself. She continues to whine and mope and be volatile and deranged and resent the role of the mockingjay despite its effect on the spirits and motivations of other people who are trying to better their worlds. And I know that 13 may have been on their way to becoming as bad as the capitol and she might have done one right thing in assassinating Coin, but out of all the inner monologue there was no part where she really thought about this or about how she could use the mockingjay to change things exactly as Coin was scared she would, instead it was all about her own revenge on Snow and that's all. She was still too upset about being used by everyone. She had to be used without her knowledge otherwise she would have fucked everything up. Even later, she's catatonically depressed just as Bella was, and can't even be happy to have a fucking family even though there's no more Hunger Games. (Also, what the hell is with that ending? Has Suzanne Collins ever heard of closure? WHY WOULD SHE AGREE TO MORE HUNGER GAMES? She's been through all of that and is now willing to put someone else through it? More children? Who didn't have a choice of where they grew up? And if it was just a tactic to keep Coin happy for a while then why wasn't it mentioned ever again? WTF?)
It's just... I understand everyone has flaws. I understand that there are people like that in real life. But this is fiction, and young adult fiction at that, and I believe it should provide role models and inspire people, and I don't believe Katniss does that at all. She just mopes around, in and out of hospital, being made to look something she's not by better people, forever waiting for opportunities to off herself. Sure, she's allowed to be scared and vulnerable, but I for one would like to be inspired and hope that if it ever came down to it that even though I would be scared and vulnerable too, I would try to do the right thing and do the best I could to help other people rather than looking for the first exit or cyanide pill. That is the kind of character I want to read about.
Wow. This ended up being really long. I'm sorry, I've probably gone around in circles and repeated myself so much. Please respond, I'd like to have any of my points shot down or argued with if you disagree!

nightlockk replied to your post: I am sick of people saying that Adele is pop....
pop = any type of music (any genre) that is popular. that’s what. . my teacher said o:
Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented toward a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes.
'' simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes.''
That doesn't sound like Adele at all, omg.
