Thoughts and Theories (Spoilers)
I got inspired by some of the theories I've seen floating around Tumblr and decided to throw some of my ideas with the little info we have rn.
First off, the "Voice" (the entity that's possessing MC and helping them and their party.)
In summary, we know next nothing about who they are other than the fact they know a lot about the afterlife realm and potentially a lot about the Old Gods. Based on this alone, I'd say they are an entity that is god-tier, maybe somewhere around the Old God's level.
During Chapter 2, they said "knowing my name would be more dangerous to you than ignorance," but the wording is strange. Dangerous to us how? My first impression was that they wanted to keep their involvement a secret from Nifara, but the wording is just too weird for it to just be that. Is their name a Cognito hazard or something?
Current Theories (Crack and Serious)
Nifara and the old gods aren't the biggest power to worry about in the afterlife realms: Based on what I understand about the old gods, they are the kind that were willing to annihilate the dwarves and separate the realms to stay in power just to have it their way and remain in power. I really doubt that someone like them would allow the existence of other afterlife's (and potentially gods) if it were up to them. Who knows? Maybe they did try but realized it would be a Punic victory at best, impossible at worst if they tried.
We will be making allies within other afterlife realms: I am under the impression the other gods/entities involved in the other afterlife's are not pleased the old gods interference and are willing to interfere with them regardless of the debatable power imbalance. Considering the story seems to be going into a "we are traveling through the afterlife's" route, I think we would be making allies in these realms going forward.
MC is also a construct: I played around with an idea in another tumblr post where MC was also a construct of sorts similar to Valax. Sure, it could be because MC is the leader and the party are more likely to listen if it came to them, but I get the vibes to that old theory when the Voice is able to puppet MC's voice.
The "Voice" is somehow connected to MC's family: This is more crack-theory-ish on my end, mostly because I want to know more about MC's family other than what we currently have. Also, it could be a potential motivating factor as to why the Voice is risking defying Nifara?

After @guinevre's post I went back to re-read Nifara's letter and there is actually so much going on there.
Tumblr media
Starting from something I am almost 100% sure about. The letter is intentionally written vaguely enough that at a glance it might seem like Nifara is demanding that the dwarves turn over someone's runaway wife. But isn’t the language here interesting? ‘[Her children] are new to our world.’ The way this is worded makes me almost certain Nifara is not talking about literal biological children, but rather the mysterious fugitive's creations. Aka, the elves.
Next, if this unnamed woman here had a hand in creating the elves, she must be one of the six Old Gods. We know very little about them, but if I had to make a guess now, my money would be on the Mother of Grey. In the tablet in chapter 8, she is the one who stands out the most among the Old Gods. And just like the woman from Nifara’s letter, her name is mysteriously lost to history. If the Mother of Grey and the fugitive from the letter are the same person, then it seems like she had a falling out with the other Old Gods. Maybe the fact that elves don’t remember her name is the result of the aftermath of the conflict, with Old Gods intentionally erasing all mentions of their ex-colleague.
Finally, the unnamed woman Nifara wants to get back is hiding in the dwarven city. The dwarven city, where one of the rifts between the realms is located. So my last point here is, what if she is the one who ended up in the Shadow Realm and founded the Ash Empire?

I got some questions for your Tav’s based on the ask game! These ones are for your Tav Nifara ! The questions are 11, 20, 30, 34, 35, 41, 48, 66 and the bonus 70, my bonus questions is what are some headcanons for Gale and Nifara once they finally start a relationship together?
Ahhhhh, thank you so much for asking about my badass ranger!! Answers are under the cut! (And I’m also gonna tag the BG3 moots @astarionbae and @reyofluke-ocs. <3)
What is your Tav’s most used weapon or spell?
When it comes to weapons, Nifara has a set of twin daggers with bone handles that are her pride and joy and definitely the weapons she uses most, either when she was hunting unnatural creatures as a ranger or fighting foes alongside the party (she also always keeps them hidden in her boots when she doesn’t expect to have to use them, which is how she keeps them after being snatched by the Mindflayer). Her most-cast spell, on the other hand, is Speak with Animals, as she has a very strong bond with them and often turns to them for help both while performing her ranger duties and during the party’s journey.
If you’re romancing anyone, why did your Tav fall for them? And why did that character fall for your Tav?
Nifara first falls for Gale, I think, because she can recognize the self-doubt he has underneath all of that arrogance and hubris he displays. She can see how he’s been somewhat isolated for so long because of his strong skill with the Weave and how little he seems to think of himself since Mystra’s discarded him and how he always feels like he has to be Gale of Waterdeep rather than Gale Dekarios, and she cannot stand to see anyone thinking badly of themselves, especially someone she finds as intriguing and intelligent and dedicated as she finds Gale. So she makes it her mission to encourage Gale towards self-confidence and feeling like he has worth outside of service to Mystra, in her own special blunt way, and that eventually turns to her truly caring for him and wanting to make him feel as loved as possible.
Gale first falls for Nifara because of how deeply she cares for the people around her… even if she’s pretty much never willing to admit she does. Nifara has a bluntness and low tolerance for any foolishness a bit similar to Lae’zel, but she’s also very quick to start caring about people and will do pretty much anything to keep those people safe and keep them content and confident in themselves once she does, and she may think she’s good at hiding it, but Gale definitely notices. He comes to adore that about her, and along with her strength both physical and inner, her unexpected sense of humor, and her absolute unwillingness to put up with any hate or cruelty, he pretty quickly comes to love almost everything about her, even if he doesn’t think he’s worthy of her for a while.
How does your Tav react when someone insults their friend/partner?
I actually have a little scene I plan to write where the party stops at a small inn and the innkeeper refuses to give them rooms because of Lae’zel and Karlach and Nifara throws one of her daggers into the wall next to his head to “convince” him, so… yeah. Nifara is very protective of the people she cares about, and while physical violence is typically her first instinct (which she’s trying to work on!), she’s also more than willing to insult the other person to hell and back for daring to speak badly about Gale or her friends.
What is your Tav’s opinion on nobility and authority?
Nifara does not think much of nobility and people in positions of authority at all. In her experience, they have very little concern for the environment or anyone they deem “beneath” them, and so she’s not afraid to insult them or defy their laws at any chance she gets. It even takes a while for her to fully trust Wyll, when she learns he’s the son of a duke, even if she definitely comes around to him eventually.
How does your Tav react to wearing the Wavemother’s robe? How do they react to their partner wearing it?
Oh, Nifara is not a fan. After spending most of her life in fights, Nifara pretty much only feels comfortable when she’s wearing her ranger outfit or some other kind of armor, and she hasn’t ever worn anything even resembling a dress - because of all this, she hates wearing the Wavemother’s robe, and would only really agree to wear it if Gale promised to, ahem, take it off of her later.
When it comes to Gale wearing it, however? Nifara is thanking every deity she can think of, even the evil ones, that she’s lived the life and had the experiences that have led to her being able to witness something this amazing. The outfit highlights all the best parts of Gale’s body, and let’s just say it’s a good thing he never wears it into battle, because Nifara would get herself killed from not being able to take her eyes off of him.
What animal best represents your Tav?
Nifara is definitely a bear. She’s an incredible hunter, smarter than a lot of people expect her to be, and will fight to the death to protect those she cares about.
Where does your Tav feel most at home?
Nifara definitely feels most at home when deep in the woods, on the trail of a dangerous creature, with no sounds around her but her own breathing and the swish of the wind through the trees. It’s when she feels the most at peace, when her normally lonely and restless soul is focused and quiet.
Does your Tav consider themselves a hero, villain, victim or something else?
Nifara definitely does not consider herself a hero, but she also doesn’t consider herself a villain or a victim or… anything, really. She just sees herself as somebody who has been put in some very rough and dangerous situations and did what she had to do to get out of them, and who was lucky enough to make some friends and find love in the process. Even her missions hunting unnatural creatures aren’t truly heroic in her mind; she sees herself as a solider more than anything else, simply doing her duty and keeping the world save by performing it. Some headcanons for Nifara and Gale’s relationship:
Nifara and Tara have a very strong friendship, especially after Nifara and Gale get together and Tara sees how good Nifara is for him. Gale likes to joke that he’s sure Tara likes Nifara better than him, but he’s not totally sure it’s a joke.
Nifara has written down a whole speech for if she ever comes across Mystra, detailing exactly what she thinks of the goddess’s treatment of Gale and how she actually values and cares for him where Mystra didn’t. She’s memorized the entire thing by this point, but she still keeps it on her at all times, as a sort of reminder to herself to always love and cherish Gale the way he deserves. (Though truth be told, if she ever does encounter Mystra, she’ll likely just throw the speech away and do her best to punch the goddess in the face.)
Although Nifara’s halfling height can sometimes pose an obstacle when it comes to affection, it’s still one of Gale’s favorite things about her; he loves being able to completely cover her body with his own, to feel like he can protect this woman who’s spent so long having to protect herself.
Unable to fully abandon her ranger tendencies, Nifara has a habit of bringing every wounded stray animal she finds into her and Gale’s house to nurse them back to health. Gale will usually roll his eyes when she does this, but he’ll also smile fondly and cast a healing spell if the animal needs it.
