After making her screen debut in 1989, Sandra Oh has enjoyed a remarkable career in both film and television. Although the versatile talent and 12-time Emmy nominated actress is best known for her iconic roles as Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy and Eve Polastri on Killing Eve, Oh has also worked with some of the finest movie directors, including Alexander Payne, Steven Soderbergh, Mina Shum, John Cameron Mitchell, and more.
RELATED: Killing Eve – 10 Best Quotes From The Show
As fans continue to enjoy Oh’s new hit Netflix sitcom The Chair, it’s worth recollecting her best movie moments for those who want to see more of the talented actress on the big screen.
10 Defendor (2009): 6.8
Tumblr media
Peter Stebbings’ dark offbeat superhero comedy Defendor stars Oh as Dr. Ellen Park, a psychiatrist who gives hilarious facial and verbal reactions to the outlandish story relayed to her by Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), an ordinary man moonlighting as a vigilante crime fighter.
Cut from the same genre-bucking, irreverent cloth as James Gunn’s Super, once Arthur confesses his secret life to Dr. Park, she convinces the judge to go easy on him and allow him to continue his heroic activity. When tragedy strikes, Oh shows how much heartfelt pathos she can portray by attending a touching ceremony for her patient.
9 Under The Tuscan Sun (2003): 6.8
Tumblr media
Written and directed by the late Audrey Wells, Under the Tuscan Sun is a delightfully uplifting rom-com about Frances (Diane Lane), a writer who ups and leaves her life in San Francisco to live in Tuscany after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Patti, Frances’ best friend who encourages her to travel to Italy.
RELATED: Sandra Oh – 10 Best Roles, Ranked (According To Rotten Tomatoes)
In addition to the gorgeous locations, breezy tone, and rich cinematography, Oh adds complexity to the story as Patti, a lesbian expecting a child even after her lover Grace (Kate Walsh) has left her. It’s Patti’s visit to Tuscany when she’s nine months pregnant that helps Frances find the courage to pursue true love despite the painful past.
8 Double Happiness (1994): 7.0
Tumblr media
Oh made her feature film debut in Mina Shum’s must-see coming-of-age tale Double Happiness, in which she plays the lead role of Chinese-Canadian Jade Li. The intensely personal semiautobiographical drama shows how divided Jade is between her traditional Chinese upbringing and her modern Canadian lifestyle.
With a natural performance by Oh matched with the authentic, well-observed writing of Shum, the movie is a universally relatable tale of a person grappling with their own identity while trying to appease the expectations of loved ones. In her first film performance, Oh won the Genie Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, proving what a titanic talent she has been from the start.
7 Rabbit Hole (2010): 7.0
Tumblr media
John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole is a bruising account of a family dealing with the death of a young child at the hands of a teenage driver. Nicole Kidman gives a memorable and towering performance as Becca, a mournful mother who begins to find solace by interacting with Jason (Miles Teller), the driver who accidentally took her son’s life.
Although she has a smaller supporting role, Oh plays Gabby, a fellow grieving parent who helps Howie (Aaron Eckhart) deal with his loss at the group therapy sessions he and Becca attend. With profound empathy for Howie, she becomes instrumental in his healing process.
6 Meditation Park (2017): 7.1
Tumblr media
Twenty-three years after working with Mina Shum for the first time, Oh reunited with the filmmaker for the sweet-natured drama Meditation Park in 2017. The story concerns Maria Wang (Pei-Pei Cheng), an aging woman in the throes of an existential crisis upon suspecting her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Maria’s daughter Ava, a mother of two who encourages Maria to reconcile with her estranged brother ahead of his wedding and break free from her husband’s hold.
RELATED: Asian-American Movies to Watch If You Loved Crazy Rich Asians
As another trenchant glimpse at the immigrant experience and a statement about the importance of women finding their own voice, Shum’s film is tender, touching, and triumphant.
5 Hard Candy (2005): 7.1
Tumblr media
David Slade’s Hard Candy is a deeply unnerving glimpse at a predatory pedophile (Patrick Wilson) getting his just deserts when a teenager (Elliot Page) tricks, traps, and tortures him in his apartment. Oh plays the man’s neighbor, Judy Tokuda, admitting she only took the role due to her working relationship with Page, a fellow Canadian she worked with on Wilby Wonderful the year prior.
With most of the action set inside the inescapable apartment, the visceral terror of the violence that Hayley (Page) exacts on Jeff (Wilson) is met by the suffocating sense of claustrophobia, making for a really upsetting experience. However, the hugely satisfying conclusion helps atone for the squeamish and uncomfortable moments of carnage.
4 Last Night (1998): 7.2
Tumblr media
The most unheralded of Oh’s top films happens to be Last Night, a mordant pitch-black comedy about the impending apocalypse and the rag-tag band of Canadians with differing views on how to react. With the end of the world set to strike at midnight, Sandra (Oh) tries to make it out of her stranded position in Toronto and reunite with her husband, Duncan (David Cronenberg). One bad thing after another ensues.
Weird, wild, and ultimately winning, Last Night boasts writer/director Don McKellar’s signature brand of dark humor and anarchic energy. As such, the film has become an unforgettable cult classic among those who’ve seen it.
3 Raya And The Last Dragon (2021): 7.4
Tumblr media
With great respect and honor for the rich historical traditions of Southeast Asia, Raya and the Last Dragon is one of Disney’s most beloved recent animated movies. Sandra Oh lends her voice to the commanding role of Virana, the Fang chieftess and mother of Raya’s main rival, Namaari (Gemma Chan).
RELATED: Raya And The Last Dragon – What The Voice Actors Look Like In Real Life
With a moving story, spellbinding animation, and characters never before seen, Raya and the Last Dragon continue to soar in the hearts and minds of viewers.
2 Sideways (2004): 7.5
Tumblr media
Directed by her then-husband Alexander Payne, Oh demonstrated her hilarious comedic chops in the indie darling Sideways, a character study of a failing writer at an existential crossroads. The boozy road trip follows Miles (Paul Giamatti), an uptight novelist, and his lecherous pal Jack (Thomas Hayden Church), as they hit Santa Barbara wine country on a tasting tour.
Praised for its excellent performances and light tonal touch between comedy and drama, Oh gives a standout turn as Stephanie, a cool sommelier who has a steamy love affair with Jack (whom she does not know has a fiancee). When she finds out, she goes absolutely ballistic in one of the movie’s funniest moments. The story is so sharply penned that it won an Oscar for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.
1 The Red Violin (1998): 7.6
Tumblr media
Despite playing a bit role as Madame Ming in the fifth and final chapter of The Red Violin, the ambitious epic ranks among Sandra Oh’s most well-received movie to date. The film traces a famed 17th-century Violin from its creation in Italy to its auction in modern-day Montreal, and all that the instrument endured in creating some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard.
Praised for its sumptuous set decorations and costume designs, Oscar-winning original music, intelligent story, and a throwback style of filmmaking that calls to mind the grand epics of the past, the resonance of The Red Violin is still felt today.

Veronica Mars Season 4 (Spoilers)
I had zero expectations going into this season, didn’t watch any interviews or trailers or look up spoilers because I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Most revivals I watched in the last years were ony so-so and most of the time when I was looking forward to something I ended up disappointed. Wth that in mind, I enjoyed a lot of what I saw.
Positive stuff:
- I loved that Veronica had a new dog that she named Pony, but I’m disappointed that he didn’t get to go on any of her snooping adventures with her like Backup in the old days.
- I’m glad that Wallace ended up married and with a cute baby and a good job and that he seems genuinely happy, that guy deserves it.
- I could listen to Cliff for hours and still enjoy his relationship with Keith and Veronica immensely. I like that he seems ridiculous but good at his job at the same time.
- Same goes for Vinnie. I can understand why the police chief is reluctant to trust PIs if most of her interactions are with Vinnie. Less so with Keith and Veronica. But at least she seems more qualified for her jobs than the Lambs ever were.
- I enjoyed what we’ve seen of Dick, but I’m glad that it wasnt more than that.
- Big Dick’s right hand man reminded me so much of Mike from Breaking Bad I sometimes confused those guys.
- The thing I enjoyed most of all was Veronica and Keith’s relationship, their teamwork and their banter. That was one aspect of the show I liked the most and I’m glad this season had so much of that.
- Logan’s character development was great as well. I loved that he ha help working through his issues to move beyond his anger and resentment that drove him so much of his life, while still being enjoyable and recognizable as a character. I also absolutely loved the scene where Logan came home with blood on his shirt, acting like nothing happened. And that Logan seemed to have very positive relationships with Keith and Wallace, after their earlier animosities.
- I also liked that scene where the murder heads were all arguing about who really killed Lily. Seems very reflective of all the True Crime culture nowadays.
- The mystery was interesting enough and not as convoluted as some of the previous mysteries.
- I also enjoyed many of the Leo-scenes, there was some pretty good banter and I liked how they snapped out of their drunkenness to draw their guns withing two seconds. Could have done without the sex dream, though I never for one second thought that thing was real.
- Nicole was a very fun character and I’m sad that her storyline ended the way it did.
So-So stuff:
- While pizza guy Penn was an interesting character, after a while he became very annoying being featured so heavily.
- Matty was interesting as a mirror of Veronica’s teenage self, though I’m not sure I would have let her be unsupervised in the office after some of the stuff she pulled beforehand.
- While earlier seasons were certainly violent enough, I could have done without so much casual beheading. Seemed way over the top for me.
- After watching Jason Dohring in iZombie, I was relieved that his head didn’t look as tiny in comparison to his very defined torso as it did in that show. For some reason that was extremely off-putting to me last year.
Negative Stuff:
- Why so little Wallace? They could have found something for him to do, it can’t be that hard. Also I’m disappointed that he was treated as so disposable by Veronica. She treated spending time with him more as an obligation than anything else. Was that the same in the show, it’s been a few years since I saw that.
- No Mac. She was missing so much.
- Why they felt the need to rob Weevil of every positive thing in his life and regress him to the character he was in season 1 I will never understand. I understand that the falling out between him and Veronica was described in the books, but without knowledge of those, their relationship this season just seemed very weird.
- Why the hell did we spend so much time in the first episode with the spring break kids before the bombing, when nothing of that seemed to matter, the scenes could have been cut out and the story would have been just as easy to follow?
- Why did none of these people, except the brother of the congressman and Matty, seem in any way trauamtized or sad that they lost their friends/family in a bombing when they instead expected to have fun partying?
- Why was Veronica belitleing Logan’s therapy so much? Didn’t their relationship fall apart numerous times because of his destructive tendencies? Shouldn’t she be happy that he sought help, even if she is incapable of getting it herself (when she, let’s face it, probably needs it more than any other character apart from Logan)? After a while I honestly didn’t understand why Logan wanted to be with her, when in earlier seasons it was mostly the other way around.
- Is Logan an addict of any kind or not? I thought he was, since he was a sponsor in the movie, but he drank (and did drugs, did I understand that “E” correctly?) with Nicole, Veronica and Dick in one episode, so I guess not?
- If for some reason the show gets another season, it’s reasonable to expect that they will drag out Duncan again, right? He’s the only ex-boyfriend they haven’t used in any of the newer incarnations of the show.
 And then the ending:
I wasn’t spoiled, but it did not exactly come as a surprise to me, because Rob Thomas so fas has been incapable of writing a relationship that survived a whole season intact (at least on Veronica Mars and iZombie, I don’t know about any other products of his. I learned not to get attached to any of Liv’s reationships, because why bother when he kils all of them off anyway?). I honestly thought there was a bomb in her car when Logan reminded her on Skype to move it and expected the bomb to detonate when she went to move it while the cartell guys were watching her apartment. I expected the other shoe to drop the whole episode, so I couldn’t even get into the wedding because it was so obvious to me that the whole thing was far from over without any explosion in the finale.
I wasn’t surprised that the bomb went off, though I am surprised that the show seriously went there and appearantly killed off one of the main reasons people still want to watch the show. After watching so many supernatural shows (and a few soaps), I remain highly sceptical that he’s actually dead without showing the explosion itself, the body, the funeral or anyone mourning at all. Especially after they did something similar in season 2 but didn’t kill off Keith.
But after catching glimpses of interviews going around, I am stunned that the death at least seems to be intended to be permanent and I don’t get that argument at all. Why the hell is it necessary to kill of one of the main attractions of the show in order to “save” it? Who wants to tune into a show that killed off one half of a couple that became an essential part of that show? Seemed to me more like he wanted to make sure he would absolutely not get another season, and providing extremely shitty closure in the process. It just didn’t seem like the show to me. In previous finales, while Veronica went through harrowing experiences, the show still managed to end on a somewhat positive note (which might arguably be the case with Keith getting healthier and Veronica willing to see Logan’s therapist, but all of that seemed extremely hollow to me). Plus, the death was so tagged onto the case storyline, not intrinsic to it at all, but just added after the resolution. Random deaths might be true to real life, here it just seems to be shock for shock’s sake, but not necessarily good storytelling. Furthermore it’s just depressing to pile on more and more trauma onto Veronica without any of the relief of healing.
Also, I completely disagree that the show would not be interesting anymore with a married Veronica. Why couldn’t the conflict and drama come from the cases itself, while her private life was stable for once? I’ve really grown to hate this notion that couples are not interesting once they are in committed relationships, so they have to do will they/won’t they, cheating and love triangles. I’ve read tons of fanfiction that somehow managed it, why are so many showrunners incapable of seeing any appeal in that at all? Honestly, the show would have been more innovative if it had let Veronica be married and at least a little attempting to overcome her trauma. But I guess a happy Veronica is not an inspiring Veronica to the showrunner.
I honestly think Rob Thomas overestimates Veronca’s appeal as a character without any of the other elements. No Neptune, not Keith, no friends, no Logan, just Veronica going around solving cases does not sound appealing at all to me. If he wants something like that, it would probably be better to create a whole new show based on that kind of premise, or write this season like that to begin with. Just kill off Logan off screen in a war and start Veronica as a lonely and depressed PI somewhere other than Neptune if that’s what Rob Thomas wants to write so much.
I really have to thank the absolutely terrible finale of HIMYM. After completely screwing over my favorite couple, I just stopped being invested in any couple to the degree I was before. I never assume anymore that the story will go in the direction I expect it to go, no matter how obvious that outcome seems to me, because who knows how differently the showrunner envisions their work and what they see as “good storytelling” (which somehow often means killing someone off right before the end, how fun!). I am kind of surprised by how angry I am about Logan’s death despite my low expectations and diminished investment in the couple since I first saw the show. At least here I can ignore the ending much more easily than in HIMYM.

End of The Decade
I started this about 9 years ago for a very simple reason-I was hooked on the tv show called Akward. Jenna, the main protagonist of the show, likes to write blogs about her life as a way to cope and express how she feels. Awe inspired, I decided to create my own anonymous blog with the hopes that cathartic venting and documenting the past can help me navigate the present. For the last couple if years, l had been given many opportunities to taste the bittersweet feelings of life. Truth to be told, I have never thought I would be here writing this blog to end the decade. The earlier entries can attest to this. Ten years a go my life was in shambles. I had a broken family, broken English, and the broken will to live.
My father, two siblings and I arrived in Canada on April of 2009 to finally live with my mom. With little regards of the past, I cherished the brand new start to live a life without prejudice. I felt very little emotion when I left the Philippines because I knew deep down I could finally escape the invalidation of others of how I suppose to love. Of course, then, I was naive to think that I wouldn't felt that way ever again- I was completely wrong. It did not take long before everything start to turn sour. Us siblings did not get a long. We did not group together and we did not know how to live with one another. My mom and dad started to fight a lot. Almost every night. My dad started drinking a lot for many reasons that I know now and understood, but not completely forgiven. He misses his old life back in his home country- the life of the party and his other family. My mom push him to work and help with bills. Just like my sister and my brother and I, My mom and dad did live apart for many years. The feeling of living with my whole family was foreign to me. A month after arrival, the incident happened. The police came and for many months the social worker came and visit us. The resentment between us siblings began to build up. For many months, my brother and I blamed my sister for telling the truth. Knowing what I knew now she did the right thing. Nevertheless, my brother and I alienated her.
I also had broken English. I did not make a lot of friends in Grade 8. I was that loner kid who would spend every day during lunch alone and would walk on the school ground by himself. My sister and my brother got their own friends. I wanted to make my own but couldnt. On the bright side, my brother became friends with the guy name Denver. He is one of the only few people in our lives who never left for the past decade. He is still with us.
I started high school. I made more friends who are Filipino. We all kind of form this group. Denver is also part of it. Within that inner group, we had more inner clique called cajibo. I'm not going to disclose who they are because I no longer associate myself with them and it does not matter. There were also four girls who called themselves kimfejeny and they became part of the inner group. Regardless of what happened in the end, they taught me a lot of things about life. For the first time, they made me feel what is like to find a family in a group of random strangers. I must admit they helped us work throughout with some of the traumas. We had crazy dreams together, we spent so many adventures together, and they taught me the life is not as simple as black and white. It all ended because I cared too much and told the truth when it was not my place to do so. Inspite of if all, there were some silver linings to it.
I worked hard to improve my english and move in advance english. My ESL teacher helped me a lot. I improved my academic performance in no time. I also began to developed new relationships. My brother and I became more close to Daniel, Alen, Kith, and Alden. I also began to listen to Taylor Swift's music. She did help me cope with unreciprocated love, broken hearts, and the unpredictability of life. I swear I had crush on couple of people at my high school. I'm just gonna name them here for memories sake- adam, alden, aiah, and andrew.
As time went by, I started thinking about my future. After taking few courses, I knew that I have a passion for literature and history. During my junior and senior years, I took classes in philosophy, history, and law. I was no good in math. Science was okay. I actually got the biology award college level and made it to the honor roll in grade 11 and 12.
In my senior year, this girl name Chelsea asked me out to go to the prom with her. I tagged a long with her friends. They were also friends kimfejeny and some members of cajibo. It was an okay time. I didnt really have an ecstatic time. Suffice to say, I got to go so it was a check for one of my bucket list. Since I'm on the subject, I also went to Red tour concert instead of going to my own school prom. Ed Sheeran performed with Taylor swift! They were both great. Another item checked off!
On my last year, I was also determined to move out. My mom was very supportive of it. We started to look for school. I got in to all of the ones that I applied to. I was torn between u of t and Mac. To be honest, I would not have considered or let alone knew about mcmaster if it wasn't for Andrew. I visited both schools. I thought that u of t provide more classes and opportunities for what I wanted to do. But, I wanted to have an experience like those in movies. Also, deep down I wanted to run away in hope that I could find myself and be. I decided to go to mac
My brother and I graduated. I said goodbye to my favorite high school teach who gave my brother and I a gift. But she did not need to because she has already given me so much and more. The summer was filled with excitement and anticipation. I held a get together before I leave for college. I said goodbye to my friends and left a note for my brother to read. There were crying involve because I felt that I did not deserve them at all. They were so good to me and I was not in return. That summer was bittersweet.
I started my university experience. I would not go in a lot of details because I pretty much documented my first year here well enough. Grace, Shane, nicole and devone made a difference in life, especially Grace. She saved me from myself.
In second year, it was interesting because it started off as bad. I was seeing this guy and wanted to be with him but couldnt. I also was very insecure about myself and my sexuality. Everyone went on dates, make out with someone at the party, etc. I risked my life a couple of times in pursuit of getting the same experience. With the help of my friend and after going to group support, I got through it all. I started joining clubs: board games society, humanities, etc.
Devon came back. Turns out he is bi. I've always liked and wanted him. I had wanted his approval but It was an impossible task. He was drunk and toxic. He liked one of my roommate to who kind of like him too, but did know it was right. She was also the only person who knew about my feelings towards him. Suffice to say my relationship with Devon was severed after the end of that year. Shane was also a drunk and feel like he would not approve of my sexuality so I cut my relationship with him slowly.
I also started dating someone name T. It was an okay relationship. He was a really good guy but I don't think we were meant for each other. I loved how he held me, but I knew I was not the one for him. I was not a good boyfriend to him. I think I tried to look for things in him that I want from my partner. Older, and hopefully wiser, know now that it was wrong. I ended it.
I had great times with my friends and old roommates. Spontaneous drives, adventures, and they gave me opportunities to experience things I never experienced before. Like going to demetris, hiking to trails and falls, random trips to McDonalds etc. Alicia also became my support on my last year at mac. I also became hers as well.
When graduated, I did not find a job immediately and was kind of down. I started to work out to motivate myself. I lost about 75 pound in a couple of months. With the help of family friends, I got hired at a law firm. I learned a lot of things from there. What it's like to practice law, experience to use office equipments, how to network, etc. The perks were great. But the coworkers and the work are not as great. Couple of coworkers come and go. 2 years and a half I still work with them. I also met Ashley, Selena, clarice, bryce, mike. Fun fact: Ashley's wedding was the first wedding that I attended that was not affiliated with my family.
A year ago, I woke up one day and decided to apply to post grad HR program. I was supposed to apply right after I graduated university but I knew I needed to take some time off. But, that day, I was determined to start a new. I got in to the program but was not able to start until last january. The program taught me so much about myself and others. I worked like I've never work in my life. In the end, I got 3.64 GPA. I've made friends and enemies.
My friends from high school that I mentioned before are still with me to this very day. We've gone through so many late night adventures together! I finished my internship last week and I now work as a full time employee at COC. I've traveled couple of times outside Canada for the past 2 years. My family and I recently went to punta Cana. I'm hoping to go to either Mexico or California next year!. I know in my last post I may have mentioned my struggle with the changing times. I know everyone in my life is starting to build their own life without me and that's okay. It is part of growing up. I'm also having short term memory lost lately but hopefully I get better. I'm hoping that my friendship with mike and Bryce would last longer. I wish my family the best in this new decade.
They say, life gets tougher as you grow older. My hope is I became tougher and more resilient still. I will ride the every changing tides of time while always looking up to the daylight.
I'll tell you the truth but never goodbye.

Review of 14x07 “Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story”
The Mirage.  That was the name of the roller coaster.  When I saw that in the promotional photos that were released, I was hopeful that our characters would be seeing people from their past, in reality, illusion, or hallucination.  What we got was not quite what I hoped.  Either way, episode 300 brought with it memories of some of the most meaningful people and events we have laughed and cried over in the first 299 episodes.  So, lower your lap bar and sit back while I give you my take on episode 300.
Meredith – The majority of this episode was devoted to the doctors trying to get Mer to go to the Harper Avery Awards so she could accept her trophy.  It was rather predictable that she would win.  Once the storyline was initially brought up, we all saw this coming.  They wouldn’t nominate both Cristina and Meredith and not give it to either of them. I think they could have built up to this moment better, but hey, Meredith got her Harper Avery, which is the more important thing to the writers.  I was underwhelmed by the whole thing, but I did think Ellis being in the gallery was a nice touch.  Not that she needs it now, but Meredith knows Ellis is proud of her.
Amelia and Owen – So, are they actually divorced?  Or are they just pretending they are and having sex with other people?  Can we clarify that? Cause I get that the show wants us to believe they are both blissfully happy with each other jumping into whoever’s pants, and call me old-fashioned, but how about we sign those papers and make it official first.  Also, if this tumor story was supposed to be about correcting Amelia’s supposed character flaws (or the season 13 writing to be more accurate), then why is she exactly the same person?  Besides seeming a little happier and fine with Owen’s escapades, I see no differences. If anyone else does, feel free to point them out.
Ben and Miranda – This is some petty, petty drama right here.  However, since they are insisting on Ben changing careers for the third time, I think Miranda is reacting appropriately.  She should be questioning if she can rely on him for anything because he certainly doesn’t seem like he knows what he wants.
Arizona – I have no idea where this Sofia storyline is going, but I loved Arizona thinking about what Mark would say if he were there.  And the family photo on the wall was just the right amount of nostalgia to make me audibly sigh.
Deluca and Sam – One of the things I think Grey’s has done well in the past is create such intense build up to a relationship that the audience cannot wait for the two characters to get together.  I wish they had done that here.  I think they should have kept the vague banter about their past and left out the on-call room hook ups.  It is so obvious where these two are headed that it took the intrigue and interest out of it for me.  I think they look great together physically, and if they want to go at it in every room of the hospital, by all means.  However, I didn’t get reeled in by their story the way it was told in this episode.
George, Cristina, and Izzie – I may be in the minority here, but I would have preferred flashbacks rather than look-alikes.  The casting of the Izzie look-alike was spot-on, though.  In some angles, she did look eerily like Katherine Heigl.  And one of my favorite Easter eggs was Alex picking her up because no matter how many times I watch Alex lift Izzie off of Denny’s bed, I still “clutch my pearls” as Jason George likes to say.
Jolex – One thing I think the show did well in this episode was to have Jo completely fine with Alex being flustered by the Izzie look-alike. The Jolex fans and Izzex fans are both very passionate and both very sure that their couple is the better couple.  I think the show did a nice job of remembering Izzie and respecting both relationships.  The scene where Alex describes the vision he has of Izzie’s life was long-overdue and executed perfectly.  Izzie is happy, surrounded by children, muffins, and Christmas decorations.  That is enough closure for me.
Japril -  I get A LOT of messages asking me to speculate or predict where Japril’s story is headed.  I, like you, have no idea, but I can tell you based on what I see on screen, I think it is far from over.
Let’s look back at what we have seen so far this season.
In my 14x01/14x02 review I said that while April telling Jackson she needed to move out ripped our hearts to shreds, this was the first time, maybe ever, that we have seen April make a decision with her best interests above everyone else’s.  She has been through multiple deep traumas, and she hasn’t fully dealt with any of them.  For once, she is taking care of herself.
In my 1403 review I said that I think April’s “complicated journey” this season is to find her happiness and fully deal with everything she has been through.  This episode, in a way, walked the audience and April back through many of her traumas.  They brought up several of the major things April has dealt with over the years for a reason.  They are reminding us what she has been through and what she still needs to deal with. We got the Nicole Herman mention, the Matthew flash-mob mention, and clear signs that April is not happy.  Because “No matter how many vows you make, you still end up in a new apartment and don’t see your kid half the time.”  (Side note:  That picture is Matthew.  I know some people don’t want it to be him, but it is.)
14x04 brought us Harper Avery calling April Jackson’s wife and telling him divorcing her made him like his father.
14x06 is April revisiting the 13x07 storyline and perusing Tinder, insisting that she doesn’t want to date anyone in the hospital.
In 14x07, we had every reason to scoff at the screen when the Cristina lookalike says, “You’re not Meredith Grey.”  This idea that April is less than any of the other surgeons has been tired since season eight.  The hypocrisy and overreaction to April being Interim Chief of Surgery in season 13 is one of the many reasons that season ranks at the bottom of my list, but I think that the idea was revisited again because it fits into the story of April analyzing her choices and whether or not she is truly happy.  During surgery, April explains to Meredith, “You’re like Jackson.  He grew up with so much money that he never had to balance a budget or check a price tag, and he just takes it all for granted…you take for granted that there is just going to be another one.  Some of us work really hard, and we’re just average.”  There is so much to unpack in these lines.  We finally get some of April’s thoughts on Jackson’s shopping spree, and April also tells the audience that she is still not completely confident in her own abilities as a surgeon and probably in other areas of her life as well.  April knows that Jackson’s behavior is out of the ordinary, but she is more focused on her own flaws.  I think she is really feeling her part in the problems in their relationship, but she still believes that her and Jackson belong together.  She just isn’t sure if he does.  She thinks he “…takes for granted there is just going to be another one.” This scene is not the show saying April is average.  Meredith’s line, “And Kepner you’re not average,” along with Glasses saying, “They were superheroes.  Both of them,” was the writers’ way of giving well-deserved credit to April.  The important thing here is how April reacted to those lines.  Watch her face when Meredith tells her she isn’t average.  She looks down and away as if annoyed that Meredith is patronizing her, and Glasses gets told to stop talking.  She doesn’t want to hear these compliments because she doesn’t believe them. I think getting to that point is part of her journey.
And those Japril looks. They are small, but they are there. And intentional.  Jackson and April cannot be in the same room with each other without their chemistry overflowing.
None of this sounds like a couple who is over.  To me, it sounds like a story that is just beginning.
So, where ARE they going? Well, we know that we have Japril scenes coming up, but we also know we have Jackson and Maggie scenes coming up as well as Matthew returning.  I don’t know what is in store for us, but I still fully believe that even with some bumps in the road, Japril is endgame.

11 Questions Tag
I was tagged by @ellieljade (like 76 years ago) and @parkbagelboy. Thank you guys for thinking of me! I’ve done one or two of these before so I’ll just answer you guys’ questions.
Nicole’s Questions
1. Have you ever had a recurring dream? What was it?
I’ve had several. My dreams are often over the top and inspire a large portion of my writing and love of fantasy and science fiction. I’ve often been a heroine after a space catastrophe, the sun has gone out or a meteor has hit Earth and I’ve got to do something to save people. I dream about going back in time to dinosaur times a lot by swimming under this time-space division border in the ocean? Idfk, it’s really beautiful though. I also have horror dreams in the same settings a lot, often getting further each time around. Lots of vampires, witches, werewolves. Much too exciting for me to get any decent fucking rest.
2. What is the worst place you have ever been to? The one place in the world you would never, under any circumstances, return to?
I guess I’m pretty privileged. I can’t think of a place like that. I mean I’ve been to some rough neighborhoods, but no specific place that inspires that much disgust.
3. What is your order at Starbucks?
Nothing. A water. I don’t drink coffee and I don’t like sugary teas so they have 0 appeal to me.
4. Rose gold, traditional gold, copper, or silver? Any particular reason?
Silver. It’s my favorite color. I actually detest gold.
5. What is the one song that you associate with a specific memory in your life? Is it a sad or happy memory?
Between the Lines by Sara Bareilles. I was engaged young and cheated on by my fiance. As with all things romantic, I am grateful for what I learned from the experience. But that level of heartbreak was devastating and the lyrics of this song were so pointed at the time. Though it doesn’t affect me as harshly, my heart still aches to this day listening to it, if only in response to the memory of that pain.
6. If your bias told you that he couldn’t stand your best friend, what would you do?
I’d ask why. See if it was a misunderstanding and try to work it out.
7. Do you believe in karma or luck as a real force in the universe or merely something humans have created?
I believe what you put out you receive back. Whether you believe that’s because of the Law of Return, the judgement of a God, the secret, or Newton’s third law of motion, that’s your prerogative.
8. What is your worst trait? Have you tried to change it before? Any success?
Overthinking. This ties in to a lot of other weaknesses, but if I could just relax and shut down my brain for any amount of time I would be much happier. But truly, I haven’t tried to change it. I am who I am.
9. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?
Shape shifting. I just have different goals that need different faces, body types, body parts, skin colors. Also I just want to fuck with people really, really bad.
10. When you were growing up, was Nickelodeon or Disney the kid’s channel of choice?
Nickelodeon
11. What is the best and worst part about the area you live in?
There’s a best part? I guess that my husband grew up here. But there is nothing cute or desirable about racist, close-minded, backwater west Texas. How he escaped the small-mindedness I’ll never fucking know.
Jo’s Questions
1. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I’m pretty tame. I was in a sorority and we flashed our boobies from a rooftop. They were painted though so I don’t even know if that counts.
2. If you could plan a day out with the bts member of your choice, who would it be and what would you guys do?
I know I’ve answered this somewhere before. I picked Hoseok and going to a like poetry slam at a local cafe. Oh, and shoe shopping.
3. Favorite BTS song and fav lyric from it.
Currently ‘Danger’ and Jimin’s iconic “헷갈리게 하지 마!!!“
4. If you create content, how did you get into making it? And if you don’t, what is your favorite type of fan-content and why?
I’ve been writing since elementary school and I’ve written fanfiction for a loooooot of fandoms over the years. BTS is just where I am right now and it’s really helping me get back into writing.
5. Favorite Ice cream.
Butter pecan. But I prefer sherbet or Italian ice. I like fruit flavors the most.
6. If you could get one present to gift each of the members, what would it be?
I’m such a mom, but I just want to buy them all some underwear and warm socks. And a first aid kit.
7. If BTS was for some reason reaped into a hunger games style arena, who would live the longest/be the winner and why?
Jungkook is probably the most adaptable, Yoongi is probably the most cunning, and Taehyung is the wild card. Seokjin & Hoseok are afraid of their own shadows and Jimin & Namjoon are the greatest dangers to themselves so those four would be out first.
8. If you could hear one sentence repeated to you once a day, for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“You are worthy of love.”
9. Which part of yourself do you love the most? :D
My mind, when my hormones operate properly.
10. Which bt21 character is your favorite?
Mang QQ I love him so much, precious baby
11. What are you looking forward to the most in the new year?
Self improvement. I’m really working on myself to hopefully become a better person over time.

regarding jaz, aka @kryzeborn & @amidalc.
so i really didn’t want to make this into a big huge deal outside of my own blog and my own vagueing / angry shitposting because honestly, i have a right to my anger, as does red ( @rutalonidir ) , without owing anyone an explanation as to why we’re so angry. but the fact of the matter is, i’ve had multiple people come to me off anon expressing an interest in hearing my side of the story and what exactly went down between jaz and i, so i figured i’d just compile everything as it happened and explain, with links and screenshots so everyone can follow along at home.
i’ve been writing padmé on and off for a few years now, something multiple people can attest to. i originally had a blog for her about two and a half / three years ago - ish, which has since been deleted and revamped, and then i moved her onto a multimuse for a while. i add this context in not to try and assert superiority, but to explain that my headcanons i’ve had on padmé have existed and been developed for literal years. when i had my old blog ( @eleutheriana-archive , originally libertinedeath ) , there was a meme that was floating around one day asking people to recast your fc, simply for fun. i reblogged it, and received a message from a friend suggesting tao okamoto, a japanese model and actress, due to the japanese and other asian influences on padmé’s character. i responded that i was really into the fancast and also mentioned that i’d been thinking about using fan bingbing ( the most popular padmé racebent fancast ) as an alternate for my star wars universe for a while now, but that i wasn’t sure if it’d be something people would be into, because it would require all luke and leia rpers that i interacted with using that fc to change their own fcs for those threads to keep the ethnicities correct. i got some good feedback on this post, and so i made another saying that i was going to consider starting to use her as an alternate ( when dealing solely with my star wars verses, as using an asian alt fc for modern verses means you have to take into account the real world reactions to race and can get into dicey territory, and was something i would have to think about more if i was even going to make that shift. ) but that i’d, again, have to do some thinking because it would change fcs of family members and i didn’t want to just spring that on luke and leia rpers. this happened on april twentieth, as you can see here. ( autoplay warning. )
the next day, i made an edit, found here, which was a way of providing suggestions to luke and leia rpers for fcs that they might be able to use if they wanted to interact with me in the capacity of an asian padmé / interracial skywalker family concept. shortly after i posted this edit, jaz reblogged it, found here. at the time, she was still using fan bingbing as an fc, and was following me as well. i looked at her account when she reblogged the edit, because it was tagged with her fc tag and i was kinda surprised, and i realized that she was a brand new padmé account, made only eight hours after i’d made a post saying i was going to be using fan bingbing as my alternate fc.
now, i know what you’re thinking: “nicole, you just said above that fan bingbing is a popular fancast, that doesn’t mean jaz is stealing from you.” and honestly? i didn’t think she was stealing from me at the time. i didn’t think that my post had anything to do with her blog being created, at that time. was i suspicious? a little bit, but i’ve had some things stolen from me before and also had things just be a coincidence, so i wrote it off as no big deal and followed her back because i’m duplicate friendly. at the time, i did not think anything of her account, nor was i predisposed with a bias against her, as i’ve had no dealings with jaz in any other fandom, therefore, nothing to judge her on. to me she was just another padmé rper. i did, however, take a slight offense to something found in her rules, something that remains there to this day:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can understand not wanting to inconvenience luke and leia rpers, but if you’re going to racebend your character and strive for more visibility for asian women, this is just....not cool. but again: i wasn’t going to pick fights about it, because to me she was just another padmé rper, and i didn’t think there was anything shady going on.
then things started to get a little odd. i started to notice some things here and there that kinda irked me, things that seemed a little...off. like she’d just lifted them from my blog. for example: i had a shitpost fest back in january with my main anakin and one of my friends who rps leia, as well as a cassian rper. i’ve had a headcanon since last december that in my rebel / survival verse, padmé ships leia and cassian pretty heavily and it’s been a running joke as well as a serious headcanon on my blog since i moved padmé to her own account off my multi. you can find recorded instances of this here, here, here, and here. i mention this and include screenshots because, to this day, i’ve never seen another padmé rper have this headcanon. that is, until jaz. i made this post as a general shitpost on april 24th, back when, again, jaz and i were still mutuals, and when her blog was only three days old.
five minutes later, she made this post, as evidenced by my dash timestamps. not only had she just used the same scrambling of padmé's name, she’d also used the same headcanon i’d had since january. did this make me suspicious? definitely. it was a bit of a slap in the face for me, if i’m being a hundred percent honest, but again, i was willing to merely squint at her and let it go. i wasn’t going to start a fight over something petty and small like this, but it was definitely making me keep a closer eye on her blog and her headcanons, to see if she was taking anything else from me. if you’re still doubting whether or not i was still attempting to be friendly and chill about this with her, i actually replied to her post about cassian and leia mentioning that this was a long standing headcanon of mine, and that i was glad to see someone agreeing with me. of course, you can’t see this comment anymore, because she’s blocked me since then, but you can see that she @’d me after the fact to make another comment in agreement, which you can find here. so even though i was suspicious and keeping an eye out, i was still writing things off as coincidence, and trying to be friendly, because we were still mutuals.
then i started noticing some more things: headcanons, threads, and most damning of all, an edit that was directly lifted from the one i’ve already pasted in here. unfortunately, i don’t have a screenshot of the edit itself, because i was so irritated at the time it didn’t occur to me to screenshot it, and she later took it down at my request, but that’s featured in our conversation you’ll see later. as far as headcanons go, there was a meme on the dash on may first that was to the effect of ‘send me nsfw headcanons you have about my character and i’ll tell you if they’re true or not’, which started the meat of the problem with jaz and i. here are a few of my published asks, obviously featuring nsfw text. while a few of these came from anon messages, most if not all of these were already headcanons i’d had previously and had been vocal about on my blog, just expanded on by anons. one. two. three. the third one is especially important here, as it’s something i’ve been super vocal about, and something jaz had never mentioned on her blog, until i posted that answered ask. she’s also stolen some general headcanons that are specific to my characterization of padmé, as detailed in these screenshots/posts, regarding her appearance info. jaz’s original ‘detailed appearance info’ survey can be found here, posted on april 27th, shortly before i’d reblogged my own version of the survey. note the voice section: “VOICE: soft, eloquent, a little childlike.” i’d initially posted mine in march, and then reblogged it again on april 27th, with some updated headcanons, mainly just a change of wording here and there to make it more clear and adjusting some scar and bra size headcanons. notice the wording of the voice headcanon, specifically. this is something i’ve had as a headcanon since march, if not earlier; i’ve got NUMEROUS posts on my archived blog about how i’ve headcanoned padmé to have an accent in every verse i have for her. on june 12th, a month and a half later, jaz updated her detailed appearance info survey, found here. note the wording on her voice section here in this updated version. it’s almost word for word this headcanon i posted back in january, with just a different location of the accent’s origin.
she also ripped off at least two threads of mine, one of which relating to vader and padmé reuniting after his surgery / procedure / whatever you wanna call it after mustafar, where he’s in the suit for the first time. i don’t have caps of her version of the thread, though i do have her wishlist post, and as you can see here and here, chloe ( @oletherian ) and i have been doing this since december, when i was still rping padmé on my multi. she also started doing a thread with one of her anakin partners dealing with anakin’s ptsd after the zygerria arc of the clone wars, which you can find here. i noticed this because chloe and i are the ONLY anakin and padmé blogs who were doing a thread relating to this topic, and i noticed jaz posting a reply to her version of the thread two days after chloe had replied to ours, which, combined with the content, made me incredibly suspicious.
eventually. my friend wren then went on to send jaz an ask, off anon, asking her about all this, as i was getting more and more worked up by the incidents of what appeared to be blatant theft. jaz did not answer, and blocked him outright, though she later denied this. another friend also sent her asks, off and on anon, which she continued to ignore, until she finally got one that she answered, which you can see here. note the tags: “not even gonna reply to this bs until someone approaches me off anon”. at this point in time, at least two people already had, and she’d blocked them outright.
shortly after posting this, she sent me an ask, as we were still mutuals at the time, giving me her skype and asking me if we could talk privately, to which i agreed, as i was more than willing to work things out with her on a private level. i prefer to handle things one on one to making a huge spectacle of things, and i was glad she was willing to talk to me privately. here is a complete record of our conversation.
( as a note for clarity: at the time, wren, ( @spectrefive ) , was still using his url “weaponexpert”, and still going by she/them pronouns, which is why i referred to him with neutral and feminine pronouns in these messages. obviously, he no longer uses those pronouns, but i just wanted to clarify in case there was some confusion. )
so while jaz agreed to delete the headcanons and the edit, she only deleted the edit. the headcanons are all still up on her archived blog and implemented on her current blog to this day. now, i was willing to let all this go, as we had both agreed to unfollow, block, and move on, despite the fact that i’ve gotten multiple anonymous hate messages that i’m pretty positive are from her due to the typing style ( there’s no date on this because i was mobile - and visiting my grandfather in the hospital ! - when i saw them, but the date was june eighteenth. of course, i don’t have proof because they were sent on anon and i don’t have an ip tracker on my blog, but the signs line up a bit too much for me to write this off as coincidence. ) , because again: i prefer to deal with these things privately and move on. i didn’t entirely believe her when she said nothing was actively stolen from me, or when she claimed not to have blocked wren after her sent her a message, but it wasn’t about belief. i’d said what i needed to say, so had she, and we’d moved on.
then she started doing the same thing to red. most of you are familiar with this by now, as this is what’s started the drama currently, but for clarification, red wrote some nsfw headcanons on her old satine blog, found here, which she posted on the second of july. jaz then posted some extremely similar headcanons on the twenty seventh of august, right after blocking red’s blog. shortly after this was posted, red received this anonymous message, which then set the dash off.
so anyway, there you have it. if you want to reblog this post, there’s nothing stopping you, but frankly, i’m not posting it to try and change anyone’s mind on who jaz is as a person or whether or not they want to interact with her. you’re all your own people and free to do whatever you want to or don’t want to do. it’s not my call. but i do stand by what i’ve said in my rules: i won’t have her on my dash from this point forward. thank you for taking the time to read this, and i hope you have a wonderful day.

Audio Drama Podcast Recs
EDIT: well jesus this thing is getting old! If you’re looking for podcast recommendations I would recommend checking some of the newer posts I’ve made. I’ve expanded my subscription list from about 30 to over 150 in the years since I posted this, & at at this point it’s a pretty inadequate rec list.
Because I’ve gotten a few questions over time about podcast recs, both from people who are curious about audio drama, and fellow denizens of Podcast Hell™ who need something new, I wanted to put together this list so I could go a bit more into detail about why I love and recommend each of these amazing audio dramas.
Rather than trying to rank them, I tried to organize this list roughly based on popularity, at least based on my dash! More well-known shows are listed first, and then my faves that I don’t see getting nearly the love that they deserve. Especially with the volume of new innovative audio drama being created, there’s some really good stuff out there not getting nearly enough attention. Which is not to say that, if you’re a new podcast fan, you have to start with the most popular – but those shows are more likely to have an active fandom. (Of course, there are a ton of great podcasts out there, and plenty (both popular and obscure) that I don’t listen to yet.)
I also have a podcast rec tag and a very long list of audio dramas, if you want to go hunting for something beyond these recommendations here. Additionally, if you want more details or content warnings about any of these shows, feel free to message me on or off anon and I’ll do my best to answer! This post really focuses on the positives of each show and who I think might enjoy them.
WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE – Community radio from a friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, the dog park is forbidden, the mayoral candidates aren’t human, the weather is a mystery, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep.
If you know anything about audio drama podcasts, there’s like a 99.99% chance you know about Night Vale already. If not, just go listen. It’s weird and amazing and beautiful and helped to make a lot of this possible. Or if 100+ episodes plus live shows is overwhelming, don’t (but come back to it someday. It is magical).
For people who like: surrealism, humor, ‘radio show’ format, somewhat less emphasis on plot, diversity, indie music, experimental storytelling, a large back catalog of episodes, a fandom considered large by regular standards and not just podcast standards.
ALICE ISN’T DEAD – As she travels across America, a trucker tells the story of her search for the missing wife she had presumed dead, of the mysterious danger stalking her down freeways and backroads, and of the much bigger – and more terrifying – mystery she is uncovering.
The first and most popular of Night Vale Presents’ other podcasts. Gothic Americana soft horror lesbians! The writing, atmosphere, and orchestration are all superb, as is Jasika Nicole’s monologue performance. I personally recommend car/transit listening. (Also, you can get the whole soundtrack for free, and you should definitely do that.)
For people who like: surrealism, horror, Americana, female leads, lesbians, atmosphere, introspection, mystery, great music, something to drive to.
WOLF 359 – Doug Eiffel doesn’t want to do his job, Hera is a friendly but faulty AI, Dr. Hilbert is probably a mad scientist, Commander Minkowski wishes she wasn’t in charge of these idiots, and together, the four of them make up the entire crew of the USS Hephaestus space station. It’s not a picnic at the best of times: they’re isolated in a constantly malfunctioning tin can, orbiting a red dwarf star eight light years from Earth, and working for a shady corporation with coworkers they can’t stand. Then Eiffel starts to receive inexplicable transmissions from deep space – and everything gets so, so much worse.
It’s a hilarious office sitcom! It’s a character-driven deep-space sci-fi thriller! It’s a tragic, thematically powerful story about personhood, communication, and isolation! It’s all of those things, often within three lines of one another and frequently all at once! Wolf 359 is probably a masterpiece and now, heading into its fourth and final season, it continues to surprise and impress me every single time. Alan Rodi’s music is evocative and superb and the cast and writing are top-notch. One of the best. Listen to it.
For people who like: excellent character-driven writing, great music, well-written women, a gender-balanced ensemble cast, intimate sci-fi, hilarious and often referential humor, scary corporate overlords, cerebus syndrome.
THE PENUMBRA PODCAST – In Hyperion City, metropolis of a far-future Mars, a private eye named Juno Steel is pulled into life-threatening criminal conspiracies, and tangles with an even more dangerous, nameless thief – who could be his worst enemy or the love of his life. Within the Second Citadel, human civilization is protected by knights who venture out into the jungles to fight the monsters that threaten them – but some knights are discovering monsters who seem just a bit different. On the Painted Plains, a train-robbing bandit steals away a schoolteacher – and her heart. All of these and more are stories waiting to be heard behind the doors of the Penumbra, the grandest hotel this side of Nowhere. And absolutely none of them are straight.
Fabulously written genre-bending “queer AF” anthology show. The best is the Juno Steel series, about a bisexual, nonbinary sci-fi PI, which remains eminently and hilariously quotable even as it wrenches your heart out with genre-deconstructive depictions of mental illness and one of the most believable and emotional romances I’ve seen in ages . The Second Citadel fantasy series is also starting to come into its own in the second season and the standalone stories from the first season are a pretty damn good listen (LISTEN TO THE GAY WESTERN. DO IT.) I love this show, I love everyone from this show, I love everyone associated with this show, and I love Mick Mercury.
For people who like: playing with genre tropes, OTR, noir fiction, diversity, romantic chemistry, a variety of stories, suspense, heartache.
THE BRIGHT SESSIONS – Dr. Joan Bright isn’t an ordinary therapist, but her patients aren’t ordinary patients. Sam’s panic attacks bring on bouts of involuntary time travel; Caleb has it hard enough negotiating teenage emotions without also experiencing the feelings of everyone around him; Chloe can’t escape hearing other people’s thoughts; and the less said about Damien, the better. But Dr. Bright, too, is more than she first appears.
It’s a hard-hitting and poignant show about mental illness and people recovering from deep traumas, and also it is about superpowers. As the concept implies, the show is highly character-driven, and it develops an ensemble cast incredibly well. These guys are friends with the Wolf 359 crew and apparently have taken lessons from one another in how to ramp up a plot from “fun” to “oh god why,” but let’s be honest: that’s what we’re here for. Also, unjustifiably sweet gay teen romance, really cute friendships between ladies, at least one cat.
For people who like: highly character-focused narrative, superpowers, moral questions, ensemble casts, cool female leads, shady government activities, great acting.
ARS PARADOXICA – One minute, Dr. Sally Grissom is conducting cutting-edge physics research in her lab in early-21st-century Texas. A single mistake later, she’s on the deck of the U.S.S. Eldridge, in Philadelphia, 1943, smack dab in the middle of a classified WWII weapons experiment. She’s accidentally put time travel into the hands of the US government just as the nuclear era kicks off. And she can’t ever go back.
I assume everyone has heard of ars P because I assume that everyone knows Mischa Stanton. (They work on what must be like 50% of all podcasts that exist at this point, including The Bright Sessions.) Everything they do is pretty much a must-listen, but especially ars p, the “sad time show” to Wolf 359’s “sad space show.” The writing sticks out to me for its sense of consequence; it’s a major theme of the show that everything that happens will have serious and cumulative effects. Deservedly award-winning sound design. As a bonus, it crossed over with The Bright Sessions; if you like one, you might like the other.
For people who like: sci-fi, period settings, cold war thrillers, cool female leads, time travel with rules, complex and grey moralities, science lesbians, diverse ensemble casts.
EOS 10 – Dr. Ryan Dalias has enough to deal with just as the new head surgeon on a massive space station (alien aphrodisiacs, space anti-vaxxers, mind-controlling plants…) But as if that weren’t enough, his boss is an alcoholic misanthrope who has received an unwelcome ultimatum about his drinking; the nurse may or may not be inclined to bite people; there’s a deposed alien prince in the examination room who won’t put his pants back on; and an intergalactic terrorist who wants his name cleared is hiding in the cargo bay. And those are the people on his side.
I have my issues with EOS 10, not least of which is that it is still mired in a two-year hiatus (though Season Three is finally going into production soon? FINGERS CROSSED). I usually forget those issues when I listen because it’s still a frankly hilarious space comedy and the entire main plot is kicked off because of a potentially deadly boner. Think of it as the strange offspring of DS9 and Scrubs. Come for wild space shenanigans, stay for surprisingly heartfelt storylines about addiction (and even wilder space shenanigans). If W359 sounds cool but maybe a little heavy for you (or if the first season was your favorite), EOS 10 might be more up your alley.
For people who like: Star Trek, comedy, space scifi adventures, alien characters, gay space pirate cowboys, waiting.
THE THRILLING ADVENTURE HOUR – “America’s favorite new time podcast in the style of old time radio.”
An anthology show like The Penumbra which takes a comedic approach to its old time radio inspiration instead (and it is very OTR inspired – not just playing with the same genres). Has a lot of segments, not all of which are created equal; two are standouts. Sparks Nevada: Marshall on Mars (which has a continuous plot) follows a deadpan robot-fighting lawman, the Martian tracker who provides him with somewhat vitriolic companionship, and their various allies across the sci-fi-comedy-western landscape of Space Future Mars. Beyond Belief (which is episodic) stars alcoholic socialites Frank and Sadie Doyle, who may be world-renowned paranormal experts, but who mostly just combat supernatural evils so they can get back to their two greatest loves: booze and one another. It was recorded live, often featuring celebrity guest stars (most notably and frequently Nathan Fillion), and recently ended its many-year run.
For people who like: OTR, forties/fifties culture, really REALLY cute couple chemistry (Beyond Belief), humor, much more lighthearted content, a large back catalog, great music, corpsing.
GREATER BOSTON – Leon Stamatis’s perfectly organized life abruptly ends one day at the top of the first hill of a roller coaster – and that’s where the real story begins. His death will start a domino effect of change rippling through a Boston where activists agitate for subway lines to form their own city, shadowy executives watch over offices where magazine editors predict the future, and Google Calendars are updated from beyond the grave.
Guys, I am never gonna shut up about this show. At this point it’s probably my favorite podcast. Experimental fiction, a sort of regional-gothic-slice-of-life, with a plot that builds into the story of an interconnecting community of people, all of them growing and learning and changing and interacting, even the dead ones. And it plays more brilliantly and hilariously and beautifully and poignantly with format and writing and character than you’d think possible. I sometimes see it compared to WTNV (the “weird town” angle), but I think it’s likely to appeal to fans of The Bright Sessions: its characters may be dealing with incredibly strange situations, but the focus (and the appeal) is the development of those characters and their relationships with one another. Alternately, just literally everyone should listen. It’s that good.
For people who like: ensemble casts, experimental fiction, awesome women, strong character development, lesbians, playing with format, characters named Extinction Event, political intrigue, great music, Boston.
WOODEN OVERCOATS – Siblings Rudyard and Antigone Funn, along with their assistant Georgie, run a funeral home on the tiny Channel island of Piffling. It’s the only one, which is how they remain in business even though Rudyard is a punctuality-obsessed misanthrope and Antigone hasn’t left the morgue in daylight for 17 years. Then the world’s most perfect man, Eric Chapman, opens another funeral parlor directly across the street.
A British sitcom about rival funeral directors in a small town, with all of the dry, witty black humor that implies. "British” does always feel like the best adjective to convey the distinct sense of humor here. Also, it has amazingly high production values. Like, it just sounds really, really good. Also, it’s narrated by a talking mouse. The third season was just announced, so now is a really great time to catch up.
For people who like: black comedy, British comedies, rivalries of both business and sibling kinds, mysterious backstories, just a whole lot of dead people jokes, a more episodic structure.
THE BRIDGE – Once, you could drive all the way across the Atlantic in luxury and style, using the Transcontinental Bridge. Now, the Bridge is virtually abandoned. The employees of its Watchtowers are the only people left to tell its stories: stories about ghosts, about curses and illusions, about vanished and abandoned people and places, about the monsters whose places these were before the Bridge, and the strange and dangerous people who came there to find them.
IMHO, possibly the highlight of the writng for The Bridge is that they can create atmosphere like nobody’s business, and the show has a gorgeous soundtrack to boot. The characters are charming, the plot is intriguing, and the world they are building is like absolutely nothing else. Like Archive 81 below, it might appeal to those who’d enjoy Lovecraft if he didn’t suck so much in every possible way, although it’s much softer on the scary factor.
For people who like: atmosphere, storytelling, great character dynamics, sea monsters, spookiness, really fun ladies, ghost stories, mysteries, the bottomless depths and siren’s call of the ocean.
THE STRANGE CASE OF STARSHIP IRIS and UNDER PRESSURE – Starship Iris is the story of Violet Liu, a biologist forced by circumstance to join up with a ragtag crew of spacefarers to determine whether the explosion which killed every other person onboard her spaceship was really an accident. Under Pressure presents the notes of Jamie McMillan-Barrie, a researcher whose literary background did not prepare her to negotiate the kind of office drama that takes place on a research station at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
Both of these are part of Procyon Podcasting Network, which also has more upcoming shows which I am beyond thrilled about; both are also incredibly diverse, both in-universe and behind the scenes. Both are charming and very, very gay as well as racially diverse; I’m particularly fond of Starship Iris, but everything that comes out of Procyon is more than worth a listen. They’ve started pretty recently and have only a few episodes each.
For people who like: space scifi, found family tropes, workplace drama, human/genderless alien romance, space lesbians, diversity, cool female leads.
THE ORBITING HUMAN CIRCUS (OF THE AIR) – The dreamy, accident-prone janitor of the Eiffel Tower does his best to get himself a place in the fantastical, impossible radio variety show being broadcast from the tower every night. Will he ever be successful? Will the show survive his attempts? And just where do the mysterious and magical acts come from?
Considering it’s a Night Vale Presents podcast and stars an A-list of my favorite underappreciated creatives I was kind of shocked at how little discussion I see. OHC is so charming and dreamlike and heartwarming; it’s like recapturing the feeling of a particularly magical bedtime story. It features Mandy Patinkin singing Cheap Trick and you need that in your life. Also, it has a platypus in it.
For people who like: OTR, John Cameron Mitchell/The Music Tapes/Neutral Milk Hotel, a gentler weirdness than other NVP podcasts, Paris, charm, experimental storytelling.
WITHIN THE WIRES – You are a patient at the Institute. You have been instructed to listen to this series of relaxation tapes to aid in your treatment. You must trust my voice. You must trust only my voice.
NVP’s other highly underappreciated show. WTW manages to tell a narrative in a format (self-help relaxation tapes) I would have never thought possible, and though it’s difficult to say much about what makes it so good without spoiling the effect of that excellence, it’s a great choice if you’re weird-fiction-inclined. Like Alice Isn’t Dead, it also features lesbians. (It may not be good for anyone who has trouble with unreality, disturbing second-person commands, or depictions of institutionalization.)
For people who like: experimental storytelling, WLW love stories, surrealism, dystopic fiction, suspense.
INKWYRM – Mella Sonder was hired to work with a recalcitrant AI, not to be personal assistant to Annie Inkwyrm, head of outer space’s premiere fashion magazine – and the two of them will probably be fighting about that, along with all of the other disasters they get tangled up in, until the star they’re orbiting explodes. Or until they fall in love.
My money’s on the latter (fingers crossed please make it happen), but this show just finished a really fun first season and I absolutely cannot wait for more of it. I’m a sucker for dysfunctional coworker comedy, and an even bigger sucker for girls falling in love; this offers both and is excellent, and is just incredibly done for an amateur podcast. The peeps making it are inspiring and badass and really, really talented.
For people who like: The Devil Wears Prada, scifi, diversity, vitriolic romantic tension, cool female leads, alien characters, wlw romance, incompetently homicidal AIs.
THE BEEF AND DAIRY NETWORK – The number one podcast for those involved – or just interested! – in the production of beef animals and dairy herds.
Honestly almost impossible to describe. What really gets me is the hilarity of how it somehow perfectly imitates the public radio/industry podcast style, delivering you important updates from the world of cattle products, except not from a world anything like ours. Endless beefy fun times with the occasional sharp right turn into body horror and potent unreality played for comedy. This and Alice Isn’t Dead are my dad’s favorite podcasts, which probably says something about him.
For people who like: Wooden Overcoats (it’s by the same folks!), weirdness, humor, much less of a focus on narrative, ‘radio show’ format, satire, rich beef sausages.
ARCHIVE 81 – Dan Powell is missing. He was hired, so he thought, for a simple job cataloguing an archive of tapes for the New York state government: a series of interviews that a woman named Melody Pendras conducted with the tenants of an odd apartment building. Then the story on the tapes becomes impossibly strange and terrifying, and so does Dan’s life.
Another one where I’m not sure whether everyone knows about it and just isn’t talking, but they should be. It’s probably a sign of how fantastic A81 is that it’s one of my favorites even though I ordinarily can’t stand horror. This post really extolls its virtues in a better way than I can. This show has some of the most incredible sound design I’ve heard yet, so if visceral body horror conveyed solely through the audio medium isn’t for you, then neither is Archive 81. On the other hand, if you like extradimensional lesbian apotheosis and the nickname “Boombox Fuckboy,” listen to this. On top of that, the acting is superb. (The creators, Dead Signals, also did an apocalyptic scifi survival-horror miniseries thing called The Deep Vault, which is similarly beyond well-made.)
For people who like: horror, weirdness, found footage format, great music, absolutely stellar atmospheric and action sound design, excellent and realistic acting, The King in Yellow, a ‘Lovecraftian’ feel not based on hatred of anyone who isn’t straight/white.
JIM ROBBIE AND THE WANDERERS – Three trouble-seeking wandering musicians (one brash and upbeat, one an argumentative engineer, and one a grumpy robot brought to life from a radio and assorted cutlery) wander a post-apocalyptic America populated by strange towns and fantasy beings, some friendly, others dangerous.
This is another show that really charmed me right out of the box. Not to mention that it’s a take on “post-apocalyptic” that I’d never seen before – why have grim ruins or cannibalistic societies when you can have giant friendly genderless bees, an NYC inhabited by partying undead, towns full of squid-people, and desert-dwelling leprechauns? It’s much more of a fantasy take on the genre and the characters are incredibly sweet. I was also really impressed by the quality bump it’s undergone over its run so far.
For people who like: fantasy, more lighthearted narratives, fun and creative concepts, a villain called “The Fig-Wasp King,” great music, friendship, cool female leads, diversity.
THE HIDDEN ALMANAC – A thrice-weekly, four-minute show hosted by the plague doctor Reverend Mord, offering historical anecdotes from another world, the feast days of unlikely saints, and useful gardening advice.
Tired of that one analogy from every news article of the 2013 Night Vale boom (“like Stephen King/H.P. Lovecraft wrote A Prairie Home Companion”), writer/artist Ursula Vernon decided to take a crack at recreating Garrison Keillor’s other show, The Writer’s Almanac, in a similar fashion. Compared to WTNV, it comes off as less ‘weird’ and more fantastical, and is on the light side continuity-wise, though both the historical events and the frame show have arcs. In the past couple of years there have been a lot more story arcs, many lasting months, and a lot more appearances from guest character Pastor Drom and other characters. I find it incredibly charming and relaxing.
For people who like: fantasy weirdness, the actual Writer’s Almanac, WTNV, gardening, vitriolic friendships, worldbuilding, short runtimes, less of a focus on plot, large back catalogs, worldbuilding, crows.

[SF] What if Aliens Just Like Fishin'?
Hi all, I recently watched a couple JRE videos related to UFOs and felt compelled to write this. Any help with tightening this up would be appreciated. I'm grateful for anyone who reads it! (Some of the formatting may be off. Please forgive me.)
June 18th, 2024
Aron University District, Tansant. Zeta Reticuli III.
“Zimp, are you watching? Look how handsome your father looks!”
Now for headline story of the evening. Has Aron Corp. overstepped Tansant protocols with their extraction teams? CEO of Aron Corp is with us now, it’s a pleasure to speak with you Magnate Xolon.
Zimp embedded an H2O onto the base of his new tank and slid it next to the one marked l̷͗̈́͌̕l̵̛͆̌̀́̃̿́̈́͝. “Yes, mom, I’m watching…” Zimp covered the receiver of his device before the magnetic whir of his tank stabilizer could be heard.
It’s a pleasure to be here, Laax. Let me start by saying that Aron Corporation has not had a single hostile encounter with…
“Have you bought your H2O specimen yet? I’ll have to come by and see it!”
That’s very true, Magnate, but detections of Aron Corp. vehicles have risen tenfold over the....
“Not yet, mom. You know, I have a lot of SNC homework that I need to get to. I’ll talk to you-”
… and for example on Wek III they’re not even aware of what they’re seeing so it behooves…
“SNC? Oh, look how assertive he’s being, Zimp!”
“Synthetic Nano-Cohesion, gotta go! Bye!”
Cloaked SNC nets are expensive devices, Laax. We can’t simply...
Zimp began scrambling out of his apartment on a collision course with his Cleaner. The machine predicted the encounter. In a single motion the Cleaner picked up the Tansantian robe and darted upward out of the way.
Jumping into his AGV and holding back a smile Zimp asked his device “How much will an H2O specimen cost totally optimized for my setup?”
“1,354 Aron; 2,136 Kezk; 85-”
“Stop.” Zimp said as his vehicle detected the elevation for arrival. Zimp was queued several stories up. As his vehicle descended the queue, he would occasionally be greeted with an Aron Corp. meeting that had put their exterior wall to transparent. He’d quickly peek inside the lavish meeting rooms between the chromium walls. Inside were Karkons, Blexoids and Tanizars assessing the ongoing operations of various planets.
Zimp looked at the spectacles as they came, but each reminded him of the path he took to be an engineer. “That is what my father does,” he thought, “I’ll be the one who improves the ships that go there... ” He expanded his device remembering his SNC homework.
Eventually at his destination, Zimp entered Aron Corporation Exotic Friends Depot. The walls were packed with tanks full of various compounds and the Curators maintaining them. Zimp ran straight to the H2O section and found a Curator. He swiped his device back to the details of his H2O setup.
The Curator didn’t mind the small delay. It was able to adjust the temperature and inject some Base Food Components into the tank as his sensors and systems detected an impending inquiry. “Hello, sir. Please let me assist you when you are ready.”
Lucky for Zimp, no other Tanizars were around to see the smile he wore as he waved his device over the Curator. The Curator processed his request and hung for a moment to ensure the Base Food Components were assembling properly. They formed inside the Base Food Tray to look like a Wek III consumable for this specimen. A tiny, scaled, many legged thing. Its exterior a dull gray.
“This specimen here would suit you perfectly, sir! It is one of our newest inventory. Taken from Wek III just last Lune!”
Zimp quickly looked at the creature within the tank. It was fascinating. Like a large black oval combined with a serrated hemisphere at the end opposite its large brown eyes -- with no lids! It had a faint blue tinge to its front and… Zimp almost sucked in his limbs with excitement. There was something orange attached to its side… Something… Synthetic. Something not removed… Something created by a primitive of Wek III?!
He quickly swiped his device over the Curator once again.
“Very good, sir! Please wait as the delivery box forms.”
Water poured out of the thousands of small holes on the inner sheathe as it shrank down to a carriable size, bringing the H2O specimen with it. When the final size was reached the holes filled and a box containing his new specimen was released.
“Enjoy the remainder of your Rise, sir!” The Curator hummed before returning to its tasks.
The excitement of a new specimen -- one containing a primitive’s handywork no less! -- colored his world vibrantly. Zimp gazed out at the two yellow balls of fire that his little homeworld of Tansant orbits. The Twins. He thought on all the different species he’d learned about in his Extronomy courses. Wek III, he tried to remember, it’s... 70% “H2O”?
His vehicle arrived in the queue and he was back at his apartment a moment later. Hurriedly placing his new specimen into his tank, the box expanded to fit his tank. From up close, Zimp could even make out the individual scales of this creature. He froze the tank for a moment and looked at what was injected in between its gleaming scales.
He waved his device, transcribing the black text onto it: 0016.
“I wonder what it means…”

Narragansett, Rhode Island. Earth.
Another beautiful day in Narragansett. John took a look at his little white house: chipped paint, the discolored step on his porch, his hose that hadn’t worked in a couple years. “Future projects…”
He slammed shut the door of his ‘97 pickup and started down toward his Skipper’s house. The bright orange light of sunrise reflecting off the dew on the jalopy’s hood. Before he could even get the radio to a good channel he was at his destination.
A skinny man in a Stormbreaker shivered, cautiously traversing his damp yard.
“Can’t believe you’re still driving this thing, man.” The Skipper quipped as he shut the door.
“What do you mean ‘this thing’, there, Skip?”
“I heard you used to have a Porsche. Why you driving this thing around?”
“It’s all a bucket of gears, Skip. Just a box that gets me from one place to the next.”
“Yeah, yeah, but it ain’t a Porsche, Captain.”
“Look, at least I got a car!”
Skipper looked over at John with half a smile and shook his head. “That’s a whole other thing, man. Anyway, you heard about that ‘AAV’ siting up in Maine?”
“AAV? What are you talking about?”
“It’s basically UFOs. Started calling ‘em ‘AAV’s back when the Navy confi-”
“Skipper… Look, you’re a great man on ship but sometimes…”
“I’m serious! They confirmed ‘em back in like 2019 or 2018.”
John begrudgingly looked over at the Skipper. “I mean, I definitely think there’s something else out there… but if they could fly here, why wouldn’t they also just be invisible?”
“I don’t know, Cap. They keep seeing ‘em around the ocean. They even got protocols for ‘em for the fighter pilots and stuff...”
The rest of the ride to the harbor was shared quietly. John waved to another crew setting up for a lobster run when they got there.
Skipper rolled down the window. “Catchin’ some Black Sea Bass today, boys!” One of the younger guys from the other crew let out a hollar in return.
The captain of the crew waved John to park near him. When he pulled up the captain started yelling toward John’s window. “Hey, John. URI is tracking some of the bass…”
“Thanks, Phil. I’ll be sure to let ‘em know our counts.” John said as he stepped out onto the weathered parking lot.
“Heard they got some new GPS they’re putting in the ones they tag. Guess they’re tracking migration or something...” Phil heaved a netted sack over around his shoulders.
“That’s interesting. Wonder if they’ll share that with us when they’re done.”
Phil huffed. “Probably not. You know how they feel about us.”
The two shared a knowing nod.
It wasn’t long until they were out on the sea. Skipper seemed to be more focused than usual, the weather was a nice overcast, and no big ships were going to be passing by all morning. Even the beers were still cold from the last run. It was a bit foggy, but he knew these waters well enough.
John lit up a smoke, cracked a beer, and settled in for a couple hours of smooth sailing.
An hour into the trip, John was halfway through redesigning his house’s plumbing when he could hear the Skipper scrambling around at the front of the vessel.
“Hey… Captain… John!” The Skipper was pointing starboard with a look on his face he’d never seen in him.
“What? What’s over.. there.”
John saw it. Right at their destination, he estimated. A white ovoid. Hovering like a star. Was it a star? That wouldn’t explain the breakers around it… It was too big to be a star… It wouldn’t overlap with the ocean like that.
“A. A. V. Motherfucker!” Skipper wildly punched the air, keeping his eyes and ears toward the strange object.
John couldn’t get out a word and just looked onward.
He looked closer… Is that some kind of... Net around a… Cube?
“Is it sucking up fishes?”
John looked away from its center and could barely make out over the seafoam some small, black dots being brought up through the weird white net around the cube.
“What in the world am I looking at?”
Then, instantly and without a sound, it was gone.
The two looked at each other. Skipper’s mouth was agape. He unsuccessfully tried to say something but his jaw wouldn’t allow it.
“I just can’t beli-” John’s words were cut short by something ricocheting off the vessel’s railing, hitting him right on the temple.

Kingston, Rhode Island. Earth.
Nicole didn’t know who to call. Kingston Police? The Environmental Protection Agency? “This is just such absolute… Bullshit!”
After all those meetings with her advisor, writing that entire proposal, finally getting the grant. Her entire PhD was about to be undone by some losers shooting, of all the fish in the Atlantic, her fish out of some kind of cannon? She looked at the GPS trajectory again on her laptop, tracing the upward trajectory and rapid horizontal acceleration, before smacking the table.
Some guys drop this off claiming that it was “shot out of a UFO.” Nice. How’s that homeless problem, Kingston? She looked at her tagging gun and stack of foy tags. She shook her fist toward the ceiling.
“0016, I will avenge you!”

Tag // The Liebster Award
I am feeling the love guys!
I have been gone for months and I know I haven’t been forgotten because while I was gone I was nominated for this award by the always sharp and murdery Krystin @ Here’s The Fucking Twist!
Go and check out her answers to the questions she was given! Or even just check it out just to see photos of her super fucking cute pets!
This award is great because there’s such a variety of questions and answers and it helps bring exposure across the blogging world!
AND it’s run by an Aussie so I’m inclined to like it that little bit more!
Krystin’s Questions
Honestly, these are all super great questions and I have no idea how the hell I’m going to come up with my own!
I’m the worst at coming up with questions. I always hated whenever I was assigned to interview someone is school because it meant I had to socialize for one, and then on top of that I had to create questions for the people I was being forced to talk to!
That makes it sound like I hate being tagged in things like this…I promise I don’t!
The reason I much prefer these types of things than the assignments from high school years past is because I get to socialize in the comfort of my own home, behind a screen with other introverts who love books as much as I do!
I’ll still struggle to come up with questions though.
     1. If You Could Have Any Fictional Character Come To Life, Who Would You Choose?
I have too many favourite characters and most of them would probably try and kill me.
Maybe I’m struggling so much to choose one because I don’t really want any of them to come to life. I might be the only one here, but I like my favourite characters in their books because honestly?
I’m scared I might not like them in real life! Also, how am I going to enjoy my favourite books if all the characters are just out and walking about in my world?
If I had to pick I might choose Monty from The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.
Just to get his version of Shakespeare works because that would be hilarious!
     2. What Popular Book Do You Actually Hate?
A Court of Thorns and Roses!
I absolutely hated that book, liked the second one though but God damn was the first one hard to get through.
Tamlin reminded me of everything I hate. Feyre’s choices made me want to scream and Nesta pissed me off any time she was on the page.
3. If You Have A Boat, What Would You Name It?
Well, this is a question I wasn’t expecting!
It would probably be something literary because that’s how I name almost everything.
The Bard.
After my favourite character Lila Bard from the Shades of Magic Series!
     4. Favourite Quote?
Oh god, there are so many! I can never just pick one!
So, I’ll pick one that I recently came across last night and that I shared with my mum. It very poignant for us after the last year.
A woman’s first blood doesn’t come from between her legs but from biting her tongue. -Meggie Royer, The No You Never Listened To
     5. What Is The Scariest Book You’ve Ever Read And Why?
I’ve not read any really scary books but I have read one that was so creepy it had my heart pounding.
Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell.
     6. List Your Top 3 Favourite Movies Of All-Time.
Krystin! Why are you trying to make me so decisive! This is just plain cruel!
Love, Simon She’s The Man I’m going to cheat and also add the first two Kingsman movies here as well because I fucking love them for the same reason I love She’s The Man – they’re fucking ridiculous and I have a crush on the main character Thor Ragnarok
They’re the three that come to mind first, but I could probably have given a list of 20!
     7. What’s Your Favourite Ice Cream Flavour
Usually anything with lots of chunks of stuff in it! I don’t like just normal plain ice cream. After my year long obsession with Ben and Jerry’s in 2015, I can’t go back to basics!
But if I could to pick up any ice cream I’d probably go with the Clusterfluff from Ben and Jerry’s!
It’s peanut buttery goodness and also I just really love saying Clusterfluff.
And now that I’ve googled it, it looks like they don’t have it in Australia anymore!
I guess I should pick another one then!
I really like the Connoisseur Matcha Green Tea one!
I also just discovered the Connoisseur Hazlenut Icecreams and OMG I could inhale those if I didn’t have any self-control.
     8. Who Would You Want To Play You In A Movie About Your Life SO Far?
That means I need to pick someone my age!!
God, I have no idea.
Shannon Purser?
But she’d have to wear a wig or dye her hair.
     9. When You’re Having A Bad Day, What Do You Do To Make Yourself Feel Better?
Different things;
I read or watch Youtube.
A couple of years ago I was getting really moody when I was PMSing and would go out of my way to get into to arguments so mum would just yell at me to go watch Youtube for a while and calm down.
If I want to use my brain then I’ll usually blog.
Usually, all I need is to just write a post where I vent about everything and get it out of my system and then delete most of it, just keeping a little bit in my post.
If I want my brain to turn off completely then I watch trashy reality TV.
If I want to feel like my life is less of a shit show, then shows like Real Housewives are great. If I just want a laugh and maybe a little cry then RuPaul’s Drag Race is always a good option.
If I just need to cry, like get it all out, then watching something I know will have me crying is always good.
I tend to pick up Grey’s Anatomy for this. But more often than not I’ll stumble onto something sad when I need it.
If I just need a really good laugh through my tears, then progressive sitcoms work wonders.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine helped me get through a particularly bad time.
Seriously it was the only thing that could stop me from crying for so much as a split second one night.
     10. What’s your Favourite Season?
Autumn!
It’s the perfect mix of cold but not too cold that it makes my FMS flare up and cause pain.
     11. What Books Do You Have On Request At The Library?
Go by when I’m writing this up it’s
Lumberjanes, Vol 9 Lumberjanes, Bonus Tracks Rat Queens, Vol 5 Giant Days, Vol 7 Giant Days, Extra Credit Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess, Book 2 I Hate Fairyland, Vol 3 Raw. Vegan. Not Gross.
I always have a lot of holds on at any given time because I put a hold on the next graphic novel of my favourite series as soon as I finish the one previous because they take the longest to get a hold of usually.
  My Questions
What TV series best represents your life?
What do you think is your true identifier? (You know the thing people say when they’re trying to tell someone who they’re talking about but one or both people don’t know your name.)
What is one lesson that you want to bestow on the generation below you?
If your pet could text you, what kind of texts would you get from them? (If you don’t have a pet right now, any pet you’ve had will do!)
Describe your life in 10 hashtags.
What’s your craziest ‘I can’t fucking believe this happened to me/I can’t believe I did that’ story?
Which author would you want to turn your life into a book?
Who is your internet crush? Someone who you talk to online. Can be an ‘I want to date you’ crush or a friend crush!
What is your favourite recipe? Share it! I just want recipe ideas.
What would your drag name be?
What book/TV show/film do you think is highly underrated? Give it a shout out!
I tag;
Jillian @ Jillian The Bookish Butterfly
Destiny @ Howling Libraries
Melanie @ Mel To The Any
Avery @ Red Rocket Panda
Nicole @ The Bookworm Drinketh
Em @ Runaway With Dream Thieves
Marie @ Drizzle And Hurricane Books
Jamieson @ Jamishelves
Carrie @ Carrie’s Book Reviews
Dani @ Touch My Spine Book Reviews
Olivia @ Purely Olivia
Bonus Tag;
Krystin @ Here’s The Fucking Twist!
I know you’ve already done this twice but I really want to see your answers to my questions so I’m tagging you again for selfish reasons.
However, you don’t have to do it if you feel twice is enough.
I look forward to reading everyone’s answers!
Coming up with these questions were really hard but I’m actually pretty proud of the ones I came up with!

On March 23, 2006, PrimaDaNoi.it, a local news site covering the Abruzzo region of Central Italy, published a story about a couple who had been arrested for attempted extortion. In 2007, the couple was acquitted, and PrimaDaNoi.it updated its story. It updated the story again in 2008, when the couple sued the Italian state for “unjust detention.”
The PrimaDaNoi.it story continued to show up in Google searches for the couple’s names, and though it was updated and accurate, the couple asked PrimaDaNoi.it repeatedly to remove it. When the site wouldn’t do so, the couple escalated their complaint to a local court. Ultimately, in 2011, the court ruled that “enough time had passed” that the article should be taken down. PrimaDaNoi.it was ordered to delete the article and pay €5,000 in damages.
During the same time period, PrimaDaNoi.it became involved in a similar case, over a story in which four people from the same family got into a public fight that resulted in two stabbings. One of those people asked that his own name, and the name of the restaurant he owned, be removed from PrimaDaNoi.it’s article; he sued the publisher on October 26, 2010, saying it wasn’t fair to have “his reputation exposed for an unlimited time even when, with the passing of time, public interest in the news has ceased.” This case escalated to the Italian Supreme Court, which ruled in 2016 that news effectively has an expiration date and that this story had reached it.
PrimaDaNoi.it, which has a staff of four, has since 2010 been subject to 15 right-to-be-forgotten lawsuits, according to Alessandro Biancardi, the site’s editor and publisher. “As we publish the verdicts of criminal cases, people attack us and ask us to remove…almost as if they were ordering in a restaurant,” Biancardi recently told Nicolas Kayser-Bril and Mario Tedeschini-Lalli, the founders of the Offshore Journalism Project — an initiative to “maximize free speech” around the world by “exploiting different jurisdictions.” That is, figuring out ways to let news publishers, especially those from European countries with right-to-be-forgotten laws, preserve their digital work by archiving it in countries with stronger freedom-of-speech laws, namely the United States.
“We’d like to provide publishers and newsrooms with, essentially, a distress signal system, by which they can communicate to third parties the need for some of their material to be saved elsewhere,” Tedeschini-Lalli, a Rome-based digital strategy consultant
who wears many hats
, told me. The Offshore Journalism Project
received funding
from the Google Digital News Initiative and
released its initial report
last summer. Digital journalism means that “journalists and publishers are no longer ‘writing for the present,’ they are actually producing information to be consumed across time, in different and unimaginable contexts,'” Tedeschini-Lalli and Kayser-Bril write in their report:
They are to all effects ‘writing for the future’ too. Writing for the future means providing each information item with all the attributes that will make it findable by and relevant to a different public, at a different time. Whether or not publishers and journalists are fully aware of the possibility, this is a giant step in redefining freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
As a matter of principle, the authors of this report maintain that freedom of the press in the digital environment — which is our all-absorbing environment anyway — include the freedom of “publishing for the future,” and that limiting or curtailing it puts freedom of speech at risk…
Unfortunately, public opinion in many democratic countries seems increasingly ready to accept measures in the digital universe that would have been unacceptable in the analog world: mandated edits, de-indexining and de-linking (e.g.: limiting “circulation”), or outright forced cancellation, be it of provisional or permanent nature.
It’s not that archiving solutions don’t exist already — they do, with the Internet Archive being the most well-known — but they aren’t perfect. They don’t automatically preserve some content, like embedded YouTube videos; they often can’t get around paywalls; they can’t pull content from walled platforms like Facebook. (At the same time, there’s a flip side to Facebook’s being a walled garden: The report covers ways in which some publishers in countries with authoritarian governments, like Egypt’s Mada Masr, have used big international platforms like Facebook, Google, and the Amazon cloud to host their reporting, circumventing local bans and “betting on the political and economical cost that a direct censorship of such large players would entail for the local government.”)
Archiving sites are also rarely able to preserve an entire site:
When digital news outlets disappear, the holes in coverage show, and they can be huge. In January 2017, for instance, the main digital-only newsroom in Portugal, Diário Digital, was shut down by its publisher for financial reasons. Diário Digital had been the largest and oldest online newsroom in the country and had operated continuously since 1999. It had no paywall and no specific robots.txt instruction that could have hampered archiving. Despite these advantages, most of the content of Diário Digital is not to be found on the Internet Archive or Arquivo.pt. No study has been made to know how many articles published by Diário Digital in its 17 years of operation have been lost or how important they were.
And publishers face legal repercussions if they attempt to archive content once a court has ordered them to remove it. The Offshore Journalism Project, therefore, is looking at a solution that gives “newsworthy content published online…an HTML metatag that would indicate to crawlers what should be archived, what type of content (text and/or video) should be archived and what level of priority it has. With such a standard in place, crawlers created by third parties could ask archiving services to make a copy of a specific page, including its multimedia content if need be.” Publishers could change the value of the tag if they feel a piece of content is at risk of being removed, or this could be done automatically for all of an outlet’s original content.
Once the metatag is activated, there are a few possibilities, Tedeschini-Lalli said. A crawler could save the page and publish it right away in one of the big international archiving services, like Archive.org or Archive.is, with the publisher ceding ownership of the content immediately. Second, the content could be saved and published on a set date (“there may be some reasonable commercial reasons for a publisher to want to duplicate publicly only after a certain date”). Third, the content could be saved and only published in the event that the original page is taken down.
After testing, the Offshore Journalism Project plans to open its tool up to everyone, and is hoping for broader discussion around the issue — including the formation of some set of broader guidelines for deletion. As the report stresses, some content is still going to wind up being deleted; the goal is for newsrooms themselves to be a part of that discussion. As one journalist told Kayser-Bril and Tedeschini-Lalli:
“In order to fight for and be listened to when we say ‘This information really matters, it serves a public interest and ought to be preserved,’ we have to show that we recognize that digital technologies have changed the enduring nature of information and that something when published can do harm. I’m thinking of cases like when someone’s very young and they are the subject of publicity; they may say something or do something in a way that you and I would never have suffered from, because you and I were young in the pre-Internet days probably — might find it chasing them through their lives and is readily returned by increasingly sophisticated search engines.
I’m suggesting that journalists who speak for freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of information also know that nowadays in the digital world we have to open our minds to the effect that some data is inherently trivial, or harmful, or its usefulness has expired. Now there is a lot of difficult decision-making inside of what I just said, but I think we need to not come across as absolutists.”
One thing is for sure: These conversations can’t happen too soon — and, as Tedeschini-Lalli pointed out, it’s not inconceivable that right-to-be-forgotten laws could make it to the United States in some form. Last year, a right-to-be-forgotten bill was introduced in the New York state legislature, though it was ultimately pulled. Combine that with Trump’s repeated threats to try to change libel laws, and “I’m not sure whether this will never be an issue in the U.S.,” Tedeschini-Lalli said.
