CM: i remember watching you as a student take on these things that were so shockingly ambitious and in a field, in a material where that issue of failure rate often I think tends to grind people into a more tentative position, a safer position in terms of what they undertake and I remember observing you as someone who had these colossal successes and colossal failures, when something really big falls, it falls hard, and so in a field where things, the more ambitious you get, the degree of difficulty goes up so fast and where many of the things you make are so far in an ambitious level beyond what most people would even expect in the field, what compels you to be so prolific and also so ambitious in terms of what you’re taking on?

MW: I think just the idea of being, how do you push yourself as an individual to be fully engaged, ya know? with what you’re doing, fully clear and fully engaged with your life, and this idea of at that point pushing myself ya know, even maybe with this show, pushing myself where you collapse and reel back a little bit to see how engaged you can be, how fully alive you can be. i think it’s about that, in terms of where the energy comes from and where the excitement, in openness to allow myself to follow things even if I might be worried about how they might be viewed, if it seems right, follow it. Hmm. I think that’s the whole thing, as an artist I wanted to build a practice where I was just fully engaged with life and i think the work is just a repercussion of that maybe?
