Making Love Out of Nothing At All - Nick Bradshaw x Reader
Tumblr media
A/N: I've been sitting on this for a month since I left San Diego and now I'm finally doing it. We're calling this an AU fic where Carole's just non-existent and everyone lives happily ever after.
pairing: Nick "Goose" Bradshaw x reader
warnings/content: p in v sex (unprotected/no mention of protection - he's a silly goose, ok?), fingering, oral (f receiving), public sex, car sex, goose goes down on you like it's an olympic sport, praise kink, body worship/compliments but no mention of specific appearance really?
word count: 1.3k
minors dni below the cut!
Every time I see you all the rays of the sun are all streaming through the waves in your hair, and every star in the sky is taking aim at your eyes like a spotlight.
Tumblr media
The dim street lamps illuminated the parking lot of the club in a dusky glow, the cool Pacific breeze licking at your bare legs as you hurried behind your boyfriend to his car, a 1983 Ford Mustang that he’d been saving up for since graduating from the Naval Academy last summer. He had whisked you out of the club so quickly that you were almost certain you spilled the contents of your drink on his best friend, Pete in your hurry out the door, rather than simply handing him the glass as you’d intended.
Nick turned to face you, his infamous smirk spread across his lips as he placed a hand firmly on your waist, drawing you in closer to him. He leaned his back against his car, easily towering over the convertible’s frame as he stood. At an impressive 6’4, Nick’s body engulfed yours as he pulled you in, ducking his head down to leave hungry kisses in a trail from your jaw to your neck, his hands feverishly roaming over the outside of your dress, finding anyway he could to gain access to what was underneath.
“Mhmm,” you giggled, shaking your head, “Slow down, baby. You can’t just do it in the middle of a parking lot,” you protested.
“Says who? I don’t see anyone around? Besides, that’s what the car’s for, honey.”
Nick opened the door for you before playfully pushing you on to your back across the backseat. He placed his palms flat against the seat as he hovered himself over you, his lips once again making contact with your skin. A series of hot, open-mouthed kisses peppered your neck and collarbone as his hands palmed at your breasts, grasping them over the fabric of your dress. He grinned as he hummed against your skin, taking delight in the way you squirmed and giggled with every kiss.
“You smell like heaven, you know that? Whatever this new perfume you’re wearing is, I love it.”
“Coco by Chanel,” you teased, raising an eyebrow as your hand guided his face to look at you.
Leaning up, your lips met his in a tender, yet playful kiss, grinning against his lips as his hands continued to explore your body. His long, slender fingers ran along your leg, brushing against you in a way that made your skin feel like it was on fire, burning with passion at his touch. You took in a sharp breath as he hiked the skirt of your dress up your thighs, the fabric pooling at your waist. His hand slid in between your bodies, brushing his fingertips against the soft, delicate lace of your underwear, that was quickly becoming dampened with arousal.
“Someone’s already worked up, isn’t she?” He said as he flashed you a wicked grin, chuckling to himself at how wet he’d made you without really putting in any effort.
“Shush,” you protested, shaking your head, “I could say the same thing about you.”
Nick grinned as he pulled himself up to his knees, spreading your legs slightly to make room as he hooked a finger into the waistband of your underwear, lazily dragging them down off your leg. He tossed them aside, discarding them somewhere in the front seat before quickly leaning his head down, his tongue flattening as he licked a long, slow strip against your sex, a groan of pleasure catching in his throat as he tasted your arousal. You panted his name, a sigh of ecstasy escaping your lips as his tongue slowly began working at your clit, concentrating on soft, yet precise movements as he encircled the sensitive bud.
“Tastes so fucking good, honey,” he husked as he lifted his head up slightly, his dark brown eyes looking up at you with a lustful stare as he delved two fingers into your dripping wet heat, curling them slightly to hit your spot.
“Nick, fuck,” you hissed, your back arching as he effortlessly pumped his fingers into your spot, his tongue lapping at your arousal, “Getting so close.”
“I know baby, I know, let it go for me,” he encouraged before dipping his mouth back down between your folds, sucking on your clit harshly before running his tongue over it again.
You whimpered as your thighs began to shudder and shake in pleasure, your back arching further as Nick drew you closer to your orgasm. You began moaning out his name over and over, saying it as if it was a spoken prayer as he dragged your orgasm out, his tongue lapping at you, cleaning up the arousal that dripped and threatened to stain the seats beneath you. He grinned up at you as he pulled the neckline of the white t-shirt he was wearing underneath his brightly coloured Hawaiian print shirt up to wipe your juices from his mouth.
“Have I told ya how pretty you look?” He hummed, his fingers tracing circles on your abdomen, admiring you as if he saw you as a work of art.
“No, but I like hearing it.”
“So fucking pretty, honey. Just look at you,” he gestured to you with one hand while the other palmed at his tightening jeans, the denim fabric becoming more and more restricted with his touch, “I’m not done with ya yet though, honey.”
He grunted as he got out of the car, taking you by the hand and marching you around to the hood of the car. After a quick glance around to ensure no one would be able to see, he gently guided his hand across the small of your back, spinning you around before pushing you down over the hood of the car. He shimmied his jeans down off his waist, just enough to free his cock from the strain of his boxers.
He stroked himself a couple of times for good measure before flicking the fabric of your dress up off of you, lining himself up with your entrance, he pistoned himself into you, causing you to lay your palms flat against the cold, grey metal of the car. He paused to let you adjust before drawing his hips back and thrusting forward again, causing you to choke out a gasp as you felt your walls stretching to allow him to fit.
“Nick, shit,” you panted, balling your hands into fists as you tried to keep your emotions and feelings in check as he fucked into you.
“That’s it sweet girl, takin’ me s’good,” he purred, his hips continuing to crash into yours, hands guiding your ass to make contact with his hips with each movement.
“Fucking, Jesus Christ, baby, I’m so close, right fucking there,” you sputtered, your thoughts becoming cloudy and incoherent with each passing second.
Nick’s controlled movements began to grow sloppier as he drew closer to his orgasm, unable to focus his precision any longer, his rhythmic thrusts devolving into clumsier, yet just as hard, movements. He moaned your name loudly, the syllables ringing out like some sort of sweet melodic praise as your walls clenched around him. You rode your orgasms out together, harmoniously as you both fell apart. His large hands caressed your body, pulling you gently to stand up and lean your body against his. He held you close for a moment, kissing at the nape of your neck breathlessly, his skin hot to the touch and slicked with sweat.
A laugh escaped his lips as he shook his head, almost in disbelief as he looked at you.
“God, you’re incredible, you know that? Absolutely fucking incredible,” he purred, stroking your hair as he held you close.

“I’m hopeless, Mav! Absolutely hopeless!” Goose complained, holding his face in his hands.
“You are not hopeless,” Maverick assured Goose, though his expression gave away his real opinion. “Just a little . . . rusty.”
The two were walking down the boardwalk after a disaster of a double date with two women that they met in town. And to say that it was a complete mess would have been generous. It all started with a spilled glass of water and ended with Maverick getting whacked in the face with a purse while defending Goose’s honor.
“Mav, let’s just face facts,” Goose sighed, turning to his pilot and best friend. “I’m hopeless, I have no idea how to impress women, and I’ll probably die alone because of it.”
“Goose, you’re overreacting,” Maverick cut in, clapping his best friend on his shoulder. “She just wasn’t the one. Anywhere near the one. But, hey, there’s got to be some girl out there who’ll be the perfect match to you. I can sense it.”
“But where the hell is she Mav?” Goose sighed, starting to walk along again.
“I don’t know, Goose, you’ve got to go out and look for her. The perfect girl isn’t just going to fall into your arms,” Maverick replied, shaking his head.
“Watch out!” a voice suddenly called out.
Goose turned just in time to see a woman on a pair of roller skates heading towards him. He had about a split second to react. Reaching out his arms as a reflex, Goose managed to catch her as she tripped on the uneven wooden paneling on the ground. Her momentum caused them to both dip towards the ground until they were rolling together.
Goose managed to stop their rolling and found himself staring down at the most beautiful woman that he had ever set his sights on. She stared up at him with wide eyes, panting a bit, and resting her hand on his firm chest. He didn’t know her name, but Honey just felt right. She looked sweet, just like honey, and he wouldn’t mind a—no, Goose, no, he scolded himself.
“Hi,” Goose breathed out, memorizing by the literal angel that crashed into him.
“Hi,” Honey returned, similarly dazed.
“Jesus Christ, are you two alright!?” Maverick yelled, startling the two of them back to reality.
“I’m so sorry!” Honey immediately yelped, trying to scramble up. “Are you hurt?”
“No, no, I’m fine,” Goose replied, getting up and keeping a hold on her hand to steady her. “Just a little dust. Nothing more.”
“Are you sure?” she asked, glancing over his form for any scratches.
“Yeah, it’ll take more than that to take me out,” Goose chuckled, holding her steady as she slipped a bit on her skates. “Are you alright?”
“Just a bit embarrassed,” she sighed, grabbing Goose a bit tighter. “This is what I get for trying to be someone that I’m not.”
And no sooner had she finished her sentence then Honey slipped towards the ground. Luckily, Goose had quick reflexes and managed to wrap his arms around her before she fell to the ground again. Of course, his maneuver ended up with her hanging in his arms like they were dancing partners and he was dipping her for some romantic move, which caused them both to grow even more flustered.
Maverick glanced between Goose and Honey with wide eyes. Glancing up at the sky and then down at his own hands for a moment, Maverick quietly wondered if he somehow summoned this woman to this exact spot.
“Why don’t we get you over to a bench?” Goose suggested with a chuckled, straightening her up again.
“That’s probably for the best,” she agreed, letting Goose help her over to a wooden bench.
Carefully setting her down on the bench, Goose kneeled down in front of Honey and started to untie the skates on her feet. Maverick hid a smirk behind his hand when he saw just how flustered and pleased Honey looked as Goose helped her with her skates.
Maybe he was wrong. Maybe Goose just needed to stand there and let fate do the work for him.
“There, now you’re safe,” Goose joked, setting the two skates beside her on the bench.
“Thank you,” she replied meekly, still highly embarrassed. “And I’m so sorry about running into you.”
“Don’t sweat it,” Goose assured her with a kind smile. “But, can I ask why you’re skating around the boardwalk if you . . .?”
“Can’t skate?” Honey offered with a laugh. “My friend somehow managed to rope me into it.”
“Where’s your friend then?” Goose asked her.
The call of her actual name caused Goose, Maverick, and Honey to turn around to see another woman quickly skating towards them. She was more than likely the friend who indirectly caused the whole interaction based on the way that Honey sheepishly waved to her.
“Penny, I told you that this was a bad idea,” Honey sighed, gesturing towards the skates. “I was this close to going into the water. And I accidentally tackled him along the way.”
“Better than most linebackers,” Maverick joked, smiling brighter as he turned to face Penny. Well, if Goose got a beautiful girl to pay attention to him, why should Maverick get the same opportunity? “I’m Pete, Pete Mitchell. But you can call me Maverick. And the sack of potatoes that your friend took down is my RIO Goose.”
“Goose?” Honey repeated, sounding confused.
“You two are naval aviators?” Penny asked curiously, glancing between Maverick and Goose with newfound interest.
“It’s a callsign,” Goose explained to Honey. “My real name is Nick. You can call me whatever you prefer. I answer to both.”
“Goose somehow seems to fit you more,” Honey mused, turning to Goose again with a bashful smile.
“I think so,” Goose agreed, his cheeks literally aching from how hard he was smiling.
“Are you two free the rest of tonight?” Penny asked, shooting a knowing smirk at her friend. “We were just going to grab some dessert down at the end of the boardwalk. If you two are interested.”
“Well, it would be completely rude and downright unchivalrous if we didn’t take them up on their offer. Wouldn’t it, Goose?”
“It would,” Goose quickly blurted out before he turned to Honey. “Unless, of course, you think it wouldn’t be.”
“No, no, you should come,” Honey agreed, grabbing his hand. “So that I can properly thank you for the mess that I created.”
“Well, I can’t say ‘no’ to that,” Goose stated with a wide smile.
“Great, it’s settled! Let’s go,” Penny urged, gesturing down the boardwalk.
“Penny, we should grab our real shoes first,” Honey insisted, standing up. “I can’t walk barefoot all the way down there. And the parking lot is just up there.”
“I can carry you,” Goose offered, causing Honey’s eyes to widen a bit.
“Are you sure?”
“Don’t let the chicken frame throw you off,” Maverick vouched on Goose’s behalf. “He’s stronger than he looks.”
“Thanks, Mav,” Goose hissed out, shooting his best friend a look.
“Great! Goose will carry you to the car and then we’ll all grab dessert together,” Penny stated, leaving no room for argument.
“You don’t have to carry me,” Honey assured Goose, but he simply smiled in return.
“No, no, I insist. Here, you can climb up onto my back,” Goose offered, turning around.
With some careful maneuvering, Honey clambered up onto Goose’s back and the new group of four headed up to Honey’s car. Goose and Honey fell into their own separate conversation from Penny and Maverick, who seemed to have instantly clicked. They reached Honey’s car in no time and with a quick shoe change, they were on their way down to the ice cream shop.
“So, what would you prefer me to call you?” Goose asked Honey, who smiled up at him.
“You can call me . . . tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? What kind of—oh,” Goose quickly caught on, causing Honey to giggle a bit. “Sorry, that wasn’t smooth at all.”
“I think it’s cute,” Honey replied, smiling at Goose bashfully.
“I think they’re so cute,” Penny whispered to Maverick, grabbing his arm lightly. “It’s been so long since she felt confident around a guy. She gets flustered so easily and they all make fun of her.”
“Goose isn’t like that at all. He’s a complete gentleman,” Maverick assured Penny, glancing back at Goose and Honey. “And between you and me, his confidence has been shot. The last couple of dates that he’s been on were disasters.”
“Who knows? Maybe they’re just what each other needs,” Penny mused before turning to Maverick. “So, tell me about yourself, Maverick.”

Something Different
nick “goose” bradshaw x reader
summary: you strike up conversation with a lonely looking military man, and you can’t help but fall for him.
warnings: fluff
wc: 905
a/n: I wrote this in like an hour, so it could be better tbh
Tumblr media
Even though you’re with your friends at the bar, you don’t pay attention to the conversation. Instead, you’re watching the aviators that have just walked in and gathered at the bar, ordering their first drinks.
Shortly after everyone receives their beer, they disperse, except for one, who looks like a lost puppy.
You look over to your friends, who are still chatting away and haven’t even noticed that you haven’t said anything for the past 15 minutes. You get up and head over to the man at the bar.
“This seat taken?” you ask, sitting down next to him.
“Well it is now,” the man says, flashing you a smile.
“Couldn’t help but notice your buddies left you looking like some sad, lost puppy over here.”
“Well, they live life much differently than me.”
“Oh? How so?”
“They’re more concerned about quantity and I prefer quality,” he says, smiling again. “I’m Goose.”
“Goose?” you ask, raising your eyebrows.
“Well, if you look here,” Goose says, pointing to his wings, “I’m an aviator. Naval aviator, actually. Goose is my callsign. The name’s Nick.”
“A pilot, huh?”
“I’m actually a RIO,” Goose admits.
You place an elbow on the bartop, placing your chin in your hand. “Aren’t RIOs the smart ones?”
Goose smiles again. You love his smile.
“If that’s what you think, then yes, RIOs are the smart ones.”
You smile at Goose. “I’m Y/n, by the way.”
“Y/n,” Goose says, almost like he’s testing it out. “I like that. Can I get you something to drink?”
“I’ll have whatever you’re having.”
“I like the sound of that,” he says, turning to get the bartender’s attention.
You and Goose continue to talk, and the two of you are getting along great.
“Goose!” someone calls out.
Goose looks over your shoulder, and you glance over your shoulder as the person comes into view.
“Hey Mav,” Goose says.
“Hi there,” Maverick says to you, flashing a smile.
“Hi,” you say shyly.
“What do you want, Mav?” Goose asks, with a hint of annoyance.
“I’m headed out,” he tells Goose.
“Isn’t it early for you?”
“I have something to attend to.”
“Oh, I’m sure,” Goose says, making eye contact with you then rolling his eyes. You giggle at his response.
“Good luck tonight,” Maverick says as he walks away.
“I’m so sorry,” Goose says. “He’s still learning his manners.”
You shrug. “But it’s just us again,” you say, placing a hand on Goose’s knee.
He looks down at your hand then back to you.
“Say, why don’t we go somewhere a little more quiet?” Goose asks.
“What do you have in mind?”
“I don’t want to be too forward, but what about my place?”
You raise an eyebrow at him.
“Hey, quality over quantity, remember?” Goose says, raising his hands up innocently.
You think for a moment, and Goose is watching you intently.
“Alright,” you agree. “But I’m not afraid to throw punches if necessary.”
“I would never, honey,” Goose says, standing up and offering his hand.
You look at Goose’s hand and then back at Goose. He gives you an encouraging smile, and you take his hand.
He leads you out of the bar and to his blue Bronco.
When you get to his place, he jumps out and comes around to open your door.
“A real gentleman,” you say, somewhat teasing.
“Just want to show you I’m serious and not all talk,” Goose says, motioning for you to go first to the door.
The two of you sit on Goose’s couch, and quite literally talk the night away. You also find yourself inching closer to Goose throughout the night.
Soon, you’re lying between Goose’s legs, back against his chest, and his arms wrapped around your waist.
You can’t help the yawn that slips out.
“I’m sorry,” you say, slightly embarrassed. “What time is it anyway?”
Goose looks at his watch. “Looks like it’s almost 2.”
“Are you serious?”
He shows you his watch and sure enough, almost 2.
“I should get going, then,” you say, shuffling to get off the couch.
Goose stays where he was.
“Would it be wrong to ask you to stay the night?”
You look over at Goose. His face is soft, caring.
“I don’t know, Goose,” you say, breaking eye contact.
“That’s alright, I can drive you home,” Goose says, standing up from the couch and walking to get his keys.
“Wait,” you say.
Goose stops, pauses, and turns.
You walk up to him and take his hands in yours. “I haven’t had a genuine interaction like this with a man in so long,” you begin.
Goose raises an eyebrow.
“I don’t know how to say it, but you’re different, Goose. And I like that. I like you,” you say.
“Go on,” Goose says with a smile.
You roll your eyes and grab the collar of his shirt, bringing him closer to you. You pause for just a second before you crash your lips against his.
Goose carefully places his hands on your hips, bringing you closer and deepening the kiss.
After a moment, the two of you pull away, but your foreheads touch.
“I like you too, Y/n. So why don’t you stay the night?” Goose whispers.
“It’s practically tomorrow morning, so I think I already did,” you smile.
Goose smiles back and takes you to the bedroom, where you crawl in bed, cuddle Goose, and fall asleep.

That’s Goose
Tumblr media
Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw x reader
TW: alcohol. (i think that's it), not edited[sorry]
W/c: 750
It was late on Friday night and you still hadn’t left work, every bar within the city would be packed by now but you needed a drink. You’d heard a few colleagues talking about a new bar just down the street, so you make your way down there. The first thing you see is a bunch of guys in dress whites, so you figure that this is the new navy bar. You find a nice, somewhat quiet spot at the bar and order your drink, while drinking you get a feeling that someone is looking at you. You start scanning the room and quickly saw a guy across the bar, and then you get eye contact, he quickly looks away and you go back to your drink.
After a while you start feeling eyes on you again, you look over to the guy but before you can send him a questioning look he looked back at his friend, who was probably talking about something he did at work, you figure because his arms are all up in the air and there are a bunch of girls around him. None of the girls seemed to care about the cute guy sitting next to him. Cute guy had pretty eyes, blond hair, and a moustache that looked so good, and that says something ‘cause not everyone can pull it off, yet he sure could.
Once you were done with your drinks you started packing your stuff, there was a line to pay for your tab, so you looked over at cute guy. His friend was pointing at you and smiling, looking like he was talking very highly of you. Next thing you know, cute guys friend is coming over in time for you to pay your tab, “Hi” he says, but before you can say it back he continues, “I’m maverick, and that’s my friend goose,” he says. You shoot him a look, “goose and maverick your mothers must have hated you” you say handing the bartender your card. “No, no, well maybe. They’re our call signs we’re in the navy.” He says. “Ahhh…” “So anyway goose tells me that you’re looking at him?” Now you’re getting confused, were you making him uncomfortable? Maverick must have seen your face changing ‘cause he quickly went on to say, “anyway, he’s too nervous to talk with you but maybe you wouldn’t mind talking to him?” “Oh, yeah sure.”
You and maverick walk over, but on the way maverick sees a girl so he leaves you. “Hi goose” you say once you get to him. “Hi” he says nervously, “lost maverick?”. “Yeah, yeah he um found a girl” there was an awkward silence but then he started some small talk.
In the midst of it, he realises that he doesn’t know your name, “can I ask you something?” He asks. “Yeah sure.” “Uh, what’s your name?” And you laugh awkwardly now realising that you never told him your name, “it’s y/n.” “Y/n, y/n” he says as if trying to taste it. “It’s pretty I like it.” “Thanks, I just realised I also don’t know your name.. just your call sign” “it’s Nick, Nick Bradshaw.” And you think to yourself that he looks like a Nick.
A few minutes later a girl comes over to the two of you, “your friend was amazing” she says, and you can’t help but chuckle.
“You wanna get some food?” Goose asks, “yeah sure, but um where? It’s late I don’t know any places that are open right now.” You answer with a question. “Yeah me too, you know we can go back to my place?” you're pretty sure he didn't mean it like others might have, and you chuckle as he realizes what he just said.
Instead of going to gooses place, he drives the both of you to a drive through and like a true gentleman, he paid for the food. He drove to the beach, and there you were laughing and eating with a complete stranger in said strangers car, in the middle of the night.
At the end of the night, goose drove you home and walked you to the door, you'd earlier given him your number. At the door he gave you a kiss goodbye, and as he walked away, you couldn't help but smile seeing him do a little dance halfway to his car.

Saunter (Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw x fem!Reader)
wc: 3.5k No warnings! Enjoy and please let me know what you think!! Summary: As Viper's secretary, you encounter a new set of hotshot pilots every 6 weeks, but a certain WSO catches your eye, and you can't help but fall for him...and his mustache.
Tumblr media
---
“You boys are grounded! Until further notice, neither of your asses are gonna be up in the air under any circumstance,” Viper’s voice cut through the office, sending a chill down your spine.
You had been a secretary at North Island’s ‘Fighter Weapons School’ for some time now, hopping from admiral to commander when duty saw fit. Usually, you found yourself sitting at some small, beige, creaky, metal desk a couple feet in front of one of the higher-ups’ offices, your sole purpose fetching coffee and checking in the arrogant pilots who got called in to get their asses whooped.
Two weeks ago however, when you got assigned to the beige desk outside of Viper’s office, you realized just how much business these Top Gun men meant. Every other day it seemed the same two sweaty idiots were wandering past your desk, muttering their callsigns with their heads low, and returning after a screaming fit from Viper, heads held even lower. You had never said a word to them, never really even lifted your head to notice them, just shrugged them off as another pair of cocky assholes who flew too close to the sun.
“Maverick, this is your last warning!” Viper yelled
“Yeesh,” you muttered under your breath, the tip of your pencil swirling over the name ‘Maverick’ scribbled into your ledger.
“And Goose,” Viper said quieter, almost disappointedly, “You’re a good backseater, you’re a gifted flyer, you gotta stop letting an idiot like Maverick play with your life like that,” he finished with an almost fatherly tone.
“Final warning boys,” Viper sighed, “do I make myself clear?”
“Yes sir,” their voices intersected each other, morale completely defeated.
You found yourself tracing the two o’s in Goose’s name when the also creaky door to Viper’s office opened, startling you enough to look over to the two men coming out, heads low. The one in front was shorter, strong build, jet black hair, and the other was tall, lanky, blonde, and had a mustache…and boy were you a sucker for a good mustache.
“That sounded brutal,” you said quietly, your eyes darting to the taller one’s briefly, catching his gaze and sending a blush through your cheeks.
“Brutal doesn’t even begin to describe it,” the shorter one said, his palms darting up to cover his eyes, “ugh Goose what the hell are we gonna do?”
So that was his name. He was Goose, Viper’s so called ‘gifted flier.’
“What are we gonna do?” Goose questioned, revealing his sweet lilted voice, “Mav I love you buddy but only one of us is flying the plane…what we do up there is kinda on you.” He sounded defeated, like he felt bad for having to reality check his best friend after such a serious conversation with Viper.
“Yeah, yeah,” Maverick shrugged him off, walking instead over to the front of your desk, “hey you’re here all the time right?”
Was he asking you? You looked up from your ledger to meet his hooded blue eyes.
“Me?” You asked, surprised, eliciting a chuckle from Goose
“Yeah, you.” Maverick responded, “you’re outside of Viper’s office all the time…does he get this pissed at all his pilots?”
“Well,” you looked down at your ledger to read his name, “Maverick,” you turned to Goose, “and Goose,” he smiled at you saying his name, “I’ve been here for all of two weeks, but I can say with absolute certainty that neither has anyone come in as frequently as you two, nor has anyone gotten Viper as riled up…”
Maverick hung his head as Goose walked over to him, patting him on the back.
“Motherfucker!” Maverick yelled, slamming his fist down on your desk, making it rattle and sending your pencil from your hand.
Goose bent down to pick up your pencil, standing to place it delicately in your hand and greet you with his tender gaze and warm smile, his teeth barely peeking through his mustache.
“You’ll have to excuse my dear friend Maverick here,” he said sarcastically, placing his hands on his friend’s shoulders to guide him up from your desk, “he’s had a bit of a rough day and unfortunately likes to handle that by making rash decisions that put everyone’s lives in danger,” Goose pat him on the back with a chuckle
“That’s about what I’ve gathered from all your little conversations in there,” you said as you gestured to Viper’s office.
“You’ve heard all those, have you?”
“Oh yeah,” you chuckled, “probably a little more than I’d like to, Goose”
He blushed as you said his name again, a smile peeking through his mustache once more.
“Well, I better be getting this flyboy home so he can forget today ever happened,” he said as he slapped Maverick’s chest, making him groan in annoyance, “ain’t that right honey?”
“As much as I love your company, I’m hoping I don’t see either of you again, for the sake of your careers,” you said, making Goose chuckle and Maverick groan again.
“My name’s y/n by the way,” you said quickly as they started to shuffle away, but they didn’t seem to hear you.
“What was that?” Goose asked, turning around and leaning back so he could face you
“Oh,” you blushed, mostly out of embarrassment, “I said my name is y/n”
“Y/n” Goose repeated, your name rolling off his tongue sending chills down your spine, “I like it…I think I’ll remember it”
You laughed, shooting them a small salute as Goose turned around and walked with his best friend to the parking lot, leaving you alone to question how you couldn’t stop thinking about a certain naval aviator.
“Y/n!” Viper’s yell cut you out of your daydream, spinning you around in your chair to face him
“Yes sir?”
“Fix this damn door when you’re done fawning over my flyers, it's too damn creaky!
“Oh god,” you blushed, making Viper chuckle, “yes sir”
“Listen Y/n,” his tone changed, returning to the normal calm voice you were used to when he talked to you, “I’m fine with it…as long as it's not Maverick”
“It's definitely not Maverick sir”
“So it's Goose then?”
“Why are you asking me about this, sir?” you couldn’t help but question him. You had been working with Viper for weeks now and although he had always been friendly towards you, and you had shared a few conversations in between meetings here and there, he had never asked you anything personal.
“Because I’ve been standing here since you botched telling Goose your name…and it’s hard not to notice.”
“Oh god have you actually?”
“You were so flustered you didn’t even hear the door creak…” he clicked his tongue, “I guess I’ll have to find more reasons to bring Bradshaw in here then…” he taunted as he turned around and walked back into his office, closing the very creaky door behind him.
“You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your liiips,” a warped voice sang from within the bar next to base.
You had talked yourself into going out and trying to make some friends, and the best place for that just so happened to be the bar a mere 2 blocks from your work. It had been months since you moved here and you still knew virtually nobody outside of Viper who you guessed counted as a friend now? You had let your hair down after work, and had swapped your suit jacket and skirt out for high waisted jeans and a light sweater. Nothing fancy, but also nothing that screamed military, just something that would help you blend in a bit.
The awful voice continued to sing, now joined by what sounded like twenty other equally awful voices, “You’ve lost that lovin feelin!”
“Oh god,” you thought to yourself, wondering how you planned on accomplishing anything in there.
Once you were inside you saw a crowd of navy men in their dress whites dissipating from the bar, some laughing, some continuing to sing the remainder of the song. At the epicenter of it all was none other than Maverick. Of course. Sitting next to him was a rather flushed blonde woman wearing a very similar outfit to you, and Maverick was obviously trying to work his charm.
Your gaze traveled from Maverick to other parts of the room, glancing at couples sitting in booths along the walls, aviators trying to chat up women at tables scattered around, and lone men in white nursing their beers throughout the bar. Eventually your eyes settled on one blonde, mustached man in particular, Goose. He was sat at the opposite end of the bar as Maverick, beer in hand, eyes wandering the label of the bottle.
This was your chance.
You sauntered over, hands deep in the pockets of your jeans fiddling with the fabric. Goose didn’t even look up when you approached him, too lost in the contents of his beer to even notice your presence, you just stood there amused, watching him lost in thought.
“Evenin’ sailor,” you said softly, a blush creeping along your cheeks as Goose’s eyes drifted up the barrel of the bottle, up your frame, and eventually to your eyes.
“Well I’ll be damned!” He beamed, scooting over and patting the bar stool beside him, “if it isn’t miss secretary herself.”
“You keep calling me that and I’m gonna think you forgot my name, Chicken,” you teased as you purposefully messed up his callsign, eliciting a sweet melodic laugh from his lips.
“How could I ever forget a name as beautiful as y/n,” he said as he tilted his head down, his eyes looking up at yours through his lashes.
“Well well, the Goose has a good memory,” you smiled, flagging down the bartender to order a beer for yourself
“I’ll have whatever he’s having,” you said, resting your elbows on the bartop
“Put it on my tab,” Goose interjected, shooting a quick wink your way
“If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were trying to flirt with me sir,” you shot him a suspicious look
“Well who says I’m not?” Goose asked, shooting the same look your way
“I just find it hard to flirt with a man who’s only identification is the name of a bird” you said sarcastically, accepting your beer from the bartender and taking a sip
“Lieutenant Nicholas Brashaw, callsign Goose,” he drawled out, holding his hand out for you to shake
“Y/n L/n, secretary” you said with the same tone, placing your hand in his
Goose brought your hand up to his lips and pressed a gentle kiss to the top of it, his mustache hairs tickling your skin and giving you a chill.
“So, Nick, I gotta ask you,” you began as soon as Goose let your hand go
“Shoot,” he prompted you, taking a sip of his beer
“Why on earth do you all let Maverick sing if he’s so damn bad at it?”
Goose threw his head back in a laugh, “It's a bet.”
“A bet?”
“Twenty bucks…he’s gotta have carnal knowledge of a lady on the premises…and that is our top selling approach”
“Top selling huh? So you’ve done this before?”
“Once for Mav, he crashed and burned…never for me though”
“And why not? The bet doesn’t extend both ways?”
“Well I guess it's cause you weren’t here to catch my eye,” he smiled a confident smile at you, “had I seen you sitting across the bar all by yourself, well it wouldn’t have been Mav up there singing today”
“Oh you would have done that for me?” You chuckled
“Honey I’ll sing you whatever song you want whenever you want it”
“You’re one smooth man Goose,” you smiled at him, he smiled back, making you both blush.
Just as Goose was about to speak, the blonde woman from earlier walked by, fixing her lipstick with her finger
“Your friend was magnificent by the way,” she chimed as she walked by, causing your and Goose’s mouths to drop. Maverick followed close behind, a spring in his step.
“Nah,” Goose said, his eyes on the woman, “nah!” he said even louder as his eyes found his best friend.
“I can’t believe that actually worked,” you said stunned, turning to face Maverick as he approached you and Goose.
“What can I say,” Maverick shrugged, a cocky smile plastered on his face.
“There’s no way,” Goose said, mouth agape, “there’s really no way Mav”
“Where there’s a will, Goosey, there’s a way,” Maverick said, slapping Goose on the shoulder, “I see you’ve found our secretary from earlier”
You tilted your beer up to cheer Mav, who was now sitting on Goose’s other side.
“You know Goose here hasn’t shut up about you-”
“No no no no,” Goose turned to face him, placing a hand over Maverick’s mouth, “we don’t need to talk about that Mav, we don’t need to bring that up I don’t think”
“Oh yes we do Goose,” he muttered through Goose’s hand.
“No, Goose, let him talk,” you bit your lip as you smiled at Maverick, “I want to hear what he has to say about you”
“The woman wants to hear,” Maverick muttered
“Mav, it's not happening. I’ll stay here all night if I have to”
“Goose!” You whined, “I want to know!”
Maverick pried Goose’s hand from his mouth for enough time to blurt out, “hasn’t shut up about you since we left base today! Said he thinks you’re gorgeous!”
“I’m gonna kill him,” Goose said, getting up and facing his best friend, “that’s it, Mav, you’re a dead man”
“Awww,” you chuckled as Goose grabbed Maverick by his collar and threw him off his stool, sending Maverick into a laughing fit nearby,
“Pretend you didn’t hear any of that,” Goose said as he sat back down
“That’s not happening” you said as you shook your head
“And why not?”
“Cause I’ve been thinking the same thing,” you blushed. Maverick returned in time to slap his friend on the back in congratulations.
“Yeehaw!” Goose exclaimed, his cheeks burning red and his smile beaming towards you. You couldn’t help but smile back at him.
Now you were sat at your desk, pencil in your hand, waiting to check in whoever Viper was gonna sink his teeth into next. Your mind however was replaying the events of several nights ago, when you and Maverick and Goose became a sort of inseparable trio at the bar: Goose’s sweet flirtations filling your ears every chance he got, and his arm swung around the back of your seat in Maverick’s car as they drove you to your house, and Goose’s gentle kiss on your hand as he said goodnight to you.
“Goodmorning ma’am,” a voice cut you out of your daze. Your eyes traced up the slender frame to Goose, a goofy smile plastered on his face.
“Morning lieutenant,” you spoke softly, “am I meant to check you in? You and Maverick get up to trouble again?”
Goose laughed, “no, no, Mav left his ego at home today and we landed early, so I wanted to stop by and say hi”
“Well hi,” you blinked up at him
“Hi” he said back confidently, “listen I was hoping you’d want to uh-”
“Bradshaw!” Viper’s voice rang from the other side of the door.
“Oh god,” you laughed, eyes darting down to your ledger
“I'm in for it now honey,” Goose said as he stood up straight and prepared for Viper’s reprimanding
“Lieutenant,” he began, the squeaking of the door muffling his words, “you're not distracting my secretary are you?”
“I hope not sir”
“I don't know if I believe you Bradshaw. Whether or not distraction was your intention, she looks pretty distracted to me,” Viper smiled down at you
“Sir,” you shook your head as you plopped your face into your hands to conceal your blush
“She was working perfectly before you arrived Lieutenant, and now she can't even lift her head high enough to read what's on the page in front of her!” Viper yelled sarcastically, gesturing to you, “you better right your wrongs or I'll have you and that hotshot pilot of yours grounded for another week!”
Viper spun around, shooting you a wink as you raised your head from your hands, and closed the door to his office, satisfied with his work.
“Well…” you began
“Commander's orders miss L/n…what could I possibly do to rectify the situation,” Goose jokingly pondered
“Hmmm let's think,” you said, twirling your pen
“How's about I take you out…” Goose blushed, his mustache curling up into a smile, “on a date.”
“A date?” You teased
“Yeah. Just you and me. No idiot Maverick to tease us the whole time,” he smiled
“Yeah Bradshaw, I’d like that”
“You free tonight honey?” He drawled
“Pick me up at six Lieutenant, not a minute later,” you shook your pencil at him
With a salute and a “yes ma'am,” Goose was walking down the hallway head held high.
5:59 the clock blinked as you sat in front of it, makeup and hair done, a light blue slip dress gently hugging your frame. This had felt like the longest minute of your life, sitting in front of your digital clock just waiting for the minute to change and Goose to arrive.
6:00 blinked and your heart started racing uncontrollably. The noise of it thumping was so loud it just about drowned out the knocking at your door. Breathing sharply to calm down, you stood up and smoothed out your dress, heading slowly towards the front door.
Opening it, your eyes scanned up Goose’s frame, taking in his pressed khaki pants, his white button down tucked into it, sleeves rolled up and top buttons undone, and his mustache curled up into a smile.
“My goodness,” he hollered, “don’t you look mighty fine darlin”
“Back at ya flyboy,” you blushed
“You ready for the best date of your life?” Goose asked, his soft eyes gazing down into yours.
“I’ve been thinking about it all day, Viper hasn’t heard the end of it,” you said as you locked your door and followed Goose to his bronco.
“Is that right, sugar?” He asked as he helped you into the passenger seat, goofy smile curling his mustache
“Oh yeah Lieutenant”
“Even the part about Viper?” He asked as he walked around to the driver’s seat and hopped in
“Especially the part about Viper. You better be on your best behavior or he’ll be hot on your tail,” you joked
“Ah-ha,” Goose hollered.
Goose drove you two down the sunset-lit road, gentle rock music playing from his stereo, his aviators resting gently on the bridge of his nose as his hand grasped the headrest of your seat.
Your date with Goose was full of laughter, good food, many drinks, and even more flirting. He told you the story of how he joined the Navy, and how he met Maverick in training and they became attached at the hip, and even how he was nervous about Maverick’s flying sometimes but he trusted him with his life. He asked you all about yourself, and as you told him about your upbringing and your career and your family, he sat with his head in his hands staring at you with bright eyes and curiosity. You loved listening to him talk about himself, and from the looks of him it seemed he felt the same about you.
After offering to pay multiple times, Goose finally wore you down as he set cash, plus a generous tip, down on the table.
“Thanks Goose,” you said genuinely, grabbing his hand in your own and looking him deep in the eyes.
“Anything for you, sugar,” he returned your gaze with a smile, his mustache curling over his lip, “ready to hit the road?”
“Yeah,” you smiled, keeping your hand in his as you stood up from your booth and walked towards the door, “where to next?”
“If it's not too forward,” he began, leaning down to speak softly into your ear once you exited the restaurant, “and tell me if it is…but I was hoping you’d want to come back to my place for a little?”
“And what exactly is there to do at your place?” You feigned confusion.
Goose simply shrugged, a smirk threatening his lips, as he walked to the passenger side of his car and opened the door for you.
“Never leave room for the imagination, Bradshaw,” you muttered, getting in the car and watching Goose saunter around to the driver’s side.
With a smile on his face, Goose’s hand traveled across the center console until it found yours, his fingers gently lacing with yours as his thumb rubbed gentle circles while you drove the short distance back to Goose’s house.

The sand and sun is warm against your skin as you set down everything you need for the beach. Your fourteen year old Bradley is carrying most of the weight, hoping to help his mother. He has a gentle sprout of a mustache on his upper lip, and a good build of muscle from being in football from ages four to fourteen. “Mom! Is Dad coming today?” Bradley asks you while running up behind to take the chair off your back. “Umm, he should be. I called him before we left so we'll see.”
Bradley was raised very well and respectful as he tells you to sit down as he puts up the tent and chairs for you. You smile at him before pinching his side and telling him to go play in the water. “Nah, Mom. I'm gonna tan for a bit then play football. The guys are coming here around like, 12.” Bradley is setting up a small towel and his insulated water bottle next to him and lays on his back. Bradley looked like his father from the tip of his hair, to the bottom of his toe: was Goose.
His long legs sprouted early, pushing him up to 5'10, then at 6’1 he traveled around like he owned the world. You're reading a book while you attempt to relax through sounds of screaming children and drunk adults at twelve-thirty in the afternoon. Soon, you begin to space out while reading, passing a few pages without realization.
Suddenly, tickles of kisses and hands against your thighs were Nick. The tickling of his mustache is prominent as he whispers out your name and runs against your side. You lean your head back against his shoulder and his arms wrap around your body with a gentle tug and a squeeze. “Nick! It tickles!” You say as he rubs his head against yours.
One thing you loved about Nick was his love for PDA. It didn't matter when, unless around important people, he was loving and kissing on his beautiful wife. Bradley groans at the sight of his parents practically making out behind your book. “GET A ROOM!” He shouts as he runs to the splashing water and kicking his feet.
You pull away with a quick laugh and stare at your blond husband. With a blue Hawaiian shirt on, a bare torso, and his tiny swimsuit to match with the blue. “How was work today?” You ask and play with your ring that's clad on his ring finger. You are sure if he took the ring off, the skin underneath would burn your eyes from whiteness. “Gooood! Mav almost got grounded, again.” Goose says as he lays back against the sand. His Ray-Bans are on the lower part of his nose while he throws a ball in the air.
“He always does. I'm glad your day was good. Bradley was talking to this cute girl today, I'm excited for him.” You gossip and Nick sits up and laughs. You're messing with his hair that's longer upon the top, twirling a couple pieces around.
“I missed you,” Goose says. Your hands fall underneath his ears and you kiss his lips softly. His mustache tickles your upper lip as he deepens it.
“Later, love.” You giggle and he chases after your lips jokingly. “Swear, honey. Tonight I'll give you something extra special, okay?”
“Yeee-hawww!”

You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ | Epilogue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: You, Goose, and Bradley spend a well deserved movie day.
Warnings: All the fluff, being Bradley's mom, kissing, and a little grab ass.
Word Count: 518
A/N: I hope you all enjoyed this series as much as I enjoyed writing it!
《 part 1 || part 2 || part 3 || part 4 》 《 m.list || ao3 》
Tumblr media
You stood over the stove ladling batter onto the hot griddle. Nick came up behind you, grabbing your ass and pulling you closer. “Oh, I’m sorry,” he whispered as he leaned down to press a few gentle kisses onto your neck. “I hate it when it does that…” You couldn’t help the giggle that escaped your lips as you turned to face your husband.
“Momma… Daddy…”
You both turned to the soft voice that came from the hall. Bradley stood peeking through the doorway, his airplane blanket in one hand and a model F14 in the other, attempting to rub the sleep from his eyes even though both hands were occupied.
You turned to each other once more and smiled before running over to him. Goose picked the boy up into his arms and you ruffled his hair. “Good morning, love bug.” You kissed his cheeks, “guess who made pancakes for breakfast?” The boy sprang to life at the word ‘pancakes,’ similar to how his father reacted to the word ‘coffee.’ You couldn’t help but let out a soft giggle before stepping away to grab plates and silverware.
As the three of you wrapped up breakfast you leaned over the table to look at Bradley. “So, lovebug. What should we do with our family day? Go to the beach, the zoo…”
Grabbed the plates from the table before taking them to the sink, “Stay home, cuddle in a pile on the couch, watch some movies…” You let out a small laugh and rolled your eyes at the not-so-subtle suggestion.
Bradley’s eyes lit up at the suggestion, “movie day!”
“All right, movie day it is!” you said with a smile. “How’s about you and I run to the video store and pick something good while daddy washes the dishes.”
“Okay!” Bradley practically ran to his bedroom to drop off his blanket and airplane.
You walked over to your husband and kissed his cheek. “Any requests?”
“Ooh, what’s that new movie that just came out with Schwarzenegger… Kindergarten Cop! That looked kid friendly but also seems a bit actiony!”
“I’m good with anything that’s reruns of the Banana Splits or H.R. Pufnstuf.”
“Oh, common those were great shows!” You rolled your eyes and kissed your husband once more.
“Ready!” Bradley called out from the hallway. You both walked over to be greeted by the small boy wearing his sweatshirt backward. You let out a soft giggle before crouching down to fix the boy’s sweatshirt and pulling him into a warm embrace.
“Ready to pick out some movies kiddo?”
“Yeah!”
Tumblr media
The two of you returned half an hour later with 5 movies, microwave popcorn, and a bunch of different candies and sweets to snack on. The three of you spent the rest of the day cuddled on the couch watching movies, eating popcorn, and reveling in the love that you had for one another.
As you lay on the couch with Bradley asleep on your lap you leaned into Nick’s embrace. “I love you, Nicky.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “I love you too, Honeybee.”

Call Me
Pairing: Nick “Goose” Bradshaw x Female Reader.
Summary: After you both find yourselves suddenly single right around Valentine’s Day, you and Nick “Goose” Bradshaw give the “Single's Connection” dating line a call on impulse. You both are pleasantly surprised with what you find on the other end of the line. 📞💋🔥
Warnings: Smut, strong s*xual dialogue, curse words. phone s*x, m*sturb*tion, Goose being a freak, sleazy late-night TV commercials, outrageous landline phone bills in the pre-Internet era. Minors please DNI! 18+.
Word Count: 5,713.
A/N: Minors please DNI! 18+. You are responsible for the content you choose to consume. I did a little bit of research on the old 1-900 numbers that used to be advertised for this sort of thing. I’m sure what I describe here in the story isn’t 100% accurate as to how those phone numbers worked exactly but I kindly ask to be overlooked on that.
Hope you enjoy my trashy mind. ;)
Tumblr media
Goose sighed as he slumped into the recliner in his apartment on base. He ran his hand through his dirty blond hair. He didn't know why he was getting so worked up. Valentine's Day wasn't a real holiday, or at least it shouldn't be. It was just pure commercialism. It was something chicks made a big deal about and dudes went along with it just to keep their girl happy. But there was something painful about being dumped right before Valentine's Day. It hurt like hell.
His date to a party at the Officer's Club had canceled last minute. She was now the third consecutive dud Goose had in the dating world. He had no problem meeting attractive women, especially with Maverick by his side, but it seemed like it always went nowhere.
"Don't worry, Goose," Maverick told him in the Miramar locker room after training was complete for the day. The pilot quietly told him he would check with Charlie and see if she knew anyone to fill the spot. Goose only shook his head no.
"Thanks, Mav, you're a real pal. But I'll pass. By the way, you do know you and Hot Teacher Lady aren't exactly a secret, right?"
Maverick and Charlie's relationship was obvious to anyone with a fully functional brain and set of eyes. It was kind of funny watching Maverick trying to keep it under wraps. Goose's best friend was anything but subtle.
Back in his apartment, Goose took a swig from a half empty bottle of Budweiser that he had left on his coffee table. He washed down the lukewarm liquid as he flipped on the TV.
He scanned through the channels, not really looking for anything other a mindless distraction. He landed on a commercial featuring a buxom, platinum blonde.
"I'm tired of being alone!" She proclaimed through the television.
"Yeah, you and me both, honey," Goose bitterly said out loud more to himself than to the woman in the box.
"That's why I'm calling the Single's Connection!" The woman went on.
The camera zoomed in on a shot of her picking up the phone and dialing.
A montage of other ridiculously good looking people smiling and chatting on the phone played as a sultry female voice over narrated:
"Talk to real singles in your area now! It's a fun, easy way to meet someone new and it's always discreet. Give the "Singles Connection" a call at 1-900..."
Goose couldn't help but scoff.
"I'm sure all these hotties must have a really, really hard time in the dating department."
Goose joked as he watched the obviously paid spokes-models on the screen, polishing off the rest of his beer.
The first woman from before appeared back on the screen.
"What are you waiting for?! Call me now and let's make a connection!"
The commercial ended and switched to a different one.
"Call me now and let's make a connection!" Goose mimicked.
What a crock of shit. He thought as he sat down his beer bottle. His eyes flickered to the cordless phone on his table. He raised an eyebrow as he stared at it. It was as if the device was silently daring him. He had never once entertained the idea of actually calling those dating hotlines. He figured a guy must be really desperate to resort to doing that and the girls on the other end were probably nowhere as sexy as the commercial portrayed.
"Nahhh..." Goose laughed at himself as he shook his head.
Yet, curiosity got the best of him. He picked up the handset and pulled out the long antenna.
"God, this is so stupid," He muttered. "I can't believe I'm actually doing this."
He punched in the number and went through all the prompts. It apparently was one of those lines where you left a voice recording of you describing yourself and what you were looking for and if someone was interested they would give you a call.
"Hi, ladies, my name's Goose." He spoke into the receiver. "I'm six foot two, one hundred and seventy pounds. I have dark blond hair and brown eyes. For a living I...well, let's just say I have the most bitchin' job in the world. It's guaranteed to make your ex jealous. I'm not rich but I do know how to show a girl a good time. I hope you like the Grand Slams at Denny's and don't mind being picked up in a pretty rad Ford truck. In my spare time, I like playing the piano and singing "Great Balls of Fire" at the top of my lungs and pissing off my peers with my best friend. Anyway, I'm looking for a girl who thinks Valentine's Day sucks as much as I do and is bored and just wants to talk. Yeah, I don't have very high standards. I guess that's pretty obvious, huh? I mean, here I am calling the “Singles Connection” after all. So if you think I'm the stud for you, give me a ring. And by the way, I do have a mustache and I wear Hawaiian shirts in public with no shame. But don't let that scare you off. I'll rock your world, honey. "
Goose could hardly keep a straight face as he ended the message with his phone number. He figured no girl would ever respond to such a silly message.
With a chuckle he put the phone back in the cradle. He got up to go finish the previous night's dishes and when he was done he returned to the recliner and dozed in and out of sleep while watching some more TV.
A few hours later, the phone started ringing, stirring him awake.
Goose looked at the phone ringing and glanced at his watch. It was almost midnight. Who was calling this late?
...
"Hello?" Goose answered. No one said anything. "Hello?" He tried again.
He heard nothing but a faint gasp and the sound of a click. The caller on the other end hung up. Goose looked at the phone in his hand in disbelief.
A minute later, it rang again. He answered on the second ring and hesitated before speaking.
"Helllooo?" Goose asked, slowly and carefully.
A deep breath was inhaled and exhaled on the other end. Finally, a female voice spoke.
"Um, yes, hello," You said, timidly. "Uh, hi. Is this...Goose?"
You sounded so unsure.
"The one and only," Goose replied.
You cleared your throat, took another deep breath and said:
"Hi, there. I'm Y/ N. I heard your message on the Single's Connection."
Goose about shot up out of his chair when he realized what was going on. He had practically forgotten about calling that number and that silly message he left.
"Holy shit...." He leaned forward and clasped his hand over his mouth.
"Is this a bad time?" There was a hint of disappointment in your voice.
"No, no, no!" Goose assured. He chuckled. "I'm sorry. It's just...I didn't expect anyone to actually call me back."
"I'm sorry for hanging up on you earlier," You explained. "It's just I've never done this before. You know, call one of these 1-900 numbers."
"Yeah, it's the first time for me, too." Goose said.
You both breathed a sigh of relief. It made you both calm down and relax.
Goose leaned back in his chair.
"Well, I'm...I'm glad you called! So, you say your name is Y/N? That's a really pretty name."
"Aww, thanks," You replied. "But Goose isn't your real name. Is it?"
Goose laughed. "Hehe. It might as well be. In my line of work it's what everyone calls me."
You smiled on the other end of the line.
"What line of work is that?"
 Goose smiled proudly.
"I'm in the Navy. For now, stationed right here in sunny San Diego. I ride in the back of some really bad ass jets. I'm basically like an extra set of eyes for my pilot. I play with the radio and watch the radar, among other things. If we happen to come across an enemy pilot, we keep up foreign relations. Communicate with the single finger salute. We're really friendly like that, you know. All in all...it's...it's..."
He pretended to struggle to find the words. "It's pretty much the best damn job in the world."
You were giggling on the other end.
"Wow, yeah! That does sound really cool. Bitchin', I think is what you called it?"
Goose laughed, remembering he had said that in his message. "Yes, ma'am.  Bitchin'."
You spent a few minutes telling him what you did for a living and described what you looked like. You cleared your throat and shifted in your bed. You pressed the receiver closer, so close the pressure started to hurt your ear so you loosened up a bit.
"Hey, um," You start. "I hope you don't mind me asking this... " You take another breath. "But I gotta know something. You know, before we go on..."
"Ask away. I'm an open book."
You laugh nervously. "So..you aren't married, right?"
You grimaced at the thought. Messing around with a married man, even just over the phone, was a line you wouldn't cross.
At first Goose was a little bit taken aback by the question. But it was a reasonable question to ask. Just because it was called the "Single's Connection" didn't mean only single people used the service.
"Oh, God, no!" He said. "Nah, no lucky lady has claimed me yet."
He paused and thought about it.
"Are you?!" He asked, quickly. "You know, married?"
You exhaled a breath you didn't realize you were holding.
"Oh, God, no!" You repeated.
"No, I'm not married. I'm single as a freakin' Pringle!"
You immediately thought that sounded like a such a dorky thing to say but you smiled when you heard him laughing.
"Well, good," Goose said, relieved as much as you were. "That's...that's a very good thing to know."
"That's part of the reason why I called tonight," You told him. He didn't respond and you went on:
"I, uh...um...God, I don't know why I'm telling you this. But I just wanted to talk to someone tonight." You paused and twisted the telephone cord around your finger.
"Well, talk to me, honey. I'll listen. That's why I called, too. Just to talk. All jokes aside. "
His voice was so soothing and friendly. You had only been speaking to this guy for a few minutes but he seemed really warm and funny just like he did on his message. Not at all like some creep you expected to get on these hotlines. It also sounded like he had a little bit of twang when he spoke. A sweet Southern man, you thought.
"So you know it's Valentine's Day this weekend, right? I was supposed to go with my boyfriend on this romantic getaway..." You paused and then quickly clarified:
"My now EX boyfriend, that is! Anyway, so we had these plans set months in advance. We were going to go to this really nice cabin resort in Colorado. Oh God, the pictures of it looked so beautiful. But I found out he's been sneaking around on me! He's been hooking up with his ex for weeks."
You scoffed at reliving it all. "Maybe even longer than that. Shit, I don't know. I feel like such a fool. We had been together awhile now. And I thought...I actually thought...we'd...God. I thought this trip was where he would ask me to marry him."
Your voice cracked at the end but you weren't crying or even tearing up. You had no tears to waste on a cheater.
"I guess I thought wrong, huh?" You concluded.
Goose remained silent for a moment. He wasn't exactly sure what to say to a story like that. He went with the first thing that popped into his mind.
"You were going to go on a romantic getaway to Colorado?!" He asked, incredulous. "What's so romantic about having snow all the way up to your ass?!"
You burst out laughing while Goose went on.
"I mean, no offense, dear, but Hawaii is where it's at!"
"Pffft!, " You playfully spit. "Oh, please! Yeah, Hawaii is nice but it's so cliche. Everyone goes to Hawaii! Or the Bahamas. Or the Virgin Islands. Or the Florida Keys..."
"Yeah, cause they know warm weather is better than freezing-your-nuts-off weather anytime!" Goose interjected.
You both laughed. God, this girl is really sweet. Goose thought. You had such a sweet, lovely voice and you described yourself so pretty. Of course, there was the possibility you were lying about that but he knew you weren't. You were very pretty. Inside and out. He just knew it.
"No, but seriously, Y/N," Goose said. "I'm sorry that happened to you, sugar. And here I was sitting 'round moping just because I had a date cancel on me. You got it much worse. You deserve way better. You dumped his sorry ass, right?"
"Absolutely!" You confirmed. "No regrets. I figure I dodged a bullet."
"Good girl."
Something about that made you shift. Underneath the sheets you felt a tingling sensation in between your legs. It was the other part of the reason why you called. You were looking to get off. It had been awhile.
"Hey, um, Goose? There's something else...I,um, hehe... there's something else. I don't know...if you'd even be up for it?"
"Yes? What is it, honey?"
He really should stop calling you the pet names. He had no idea what it was doing to you or perhaps he did? You assumed it was just a thing that came naturally to him, being from the South and all.
"So..." You began. You told yourself to grow up and just spit it out.
"I know we both said we just wanted to talk but the truth is..."
You trailed off. You took another deep breath and put it out there.
"I'm all alone and I'm feeling...like I need someone to help me release some tension."
Your voice had a slight change in it. You wondered if he knew what you were getting at. He sure did.
Lord have mercy. Goose thought. Somebody pinch me. This is too good to be true! Phone sex was one of his biggest kinks. He had done it before with previous girlfriends especially while being on a lengthy deployment. He always ended up regretting it when he got the phone bill but it was one weakness he couldn't resist.
"Goose?" You asked, worried he might have hung up. "Are you still there?"
“Yeah, I'm still here," He said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
"So...just to make things clear. You're feeling horny, honey? And you want me to talk dirty to you? Is that it?"
You felt your cheeks get hot and you were certain you were blushing every shade of red right now.
"Is that right, Y/N?" Goose asked. His voice had become more honeyed and an octave deeper. He had turned on his bedroom voice.
"Yes," You breathlessly admitted. "Yes, Goose. That's right."
"Oh, honeyyy...," His always drawl came out thicker when he felt turned on which was happening rapidly even though nothing had got started yet. "I'd be more than happy to help you!"
You felt the tingling sensation in between your legs again and this time it felt like it was starting to throb.
"OK, so what do I do?" You asked, softly, your heart beating faster. "I've never done this before."
"That's all right. Where are you right now?"
"I'm in my bed."
Goose hummed. "OK, that's good. What are you wearing?"
You looked down at yourself as if you forgotten what you had on. You told him you had on an old cotton T shirt and shorts. You realized you hadn't exactly thought this whole thing through.
"Yeah, I'm not exactly in my sexiest attire," You joked. "I told you this is my first time doing something like this."
"Hey, that's A OK with me, baby," Goose reassured. He asked if you wearing anything underneath.
"No?"
"Great. Take them off. All of it. The shirt and the shorts."
"I'll have to set the phone down for just a second."
"Take your time, sweetheart."
You flung back your bed sheets and did as Goose instructed. The cool air in your bedroom made your unclothed body pebble up but you knew you weren't going to stay cold for long.
"I'm back," You said, raising the receiver to your ear again.
Goose shut his eyes trying to picture you, lying naked on your bed right now. He bet it was a really pretty picture.
He opened his eyes and continued.
"All right. I want you to close your eyes and take a deep breath for me. Clear your mind. C'mon, honey, close your eyes and take a deep breath. This won't work if you're not completely relaxed."
You scooted yourself all the way back on your bed so that your back was flush with your head board. You both took a few deep breathes together.
"Keep your eyes closed for me." Goose told you. "I want you to imagine something. Think about your snowy Colorado cabin, OK? Think about how beautiful it is."
"OK," You whispered. You concentrated very hard.
"I want you to really picture it, honey. Picture the most cozy, comfy log cabin. It's big and spacious. There's a King size bed. With super soft red and black plaid sheets. There's a wood burning stove in the corner. There's a nice, crackling fire going. It's the only source of light in the whole room besides a few candles that are lit. Inside it smells like oranges, cinnamon and cloves. All those sweet winter smells. On the table, there's a bouquet of two dozen long stem red roses and a basket with wine and chocolates. Outside, it's snowing. It's a light fluffy snow and it's coming down at a steady pace."
"Mmmm..." You hummed. It all started to take shape in your mind. "You make it sound so lovely."
"There's floor to ceiling windows." Goose continued. "No shades. No curtains. No blinds. If there was anyone standing outside, they could see right in. They'd have a perfect view of you. Lying completely naked on the bed..."
Goose was looking straight ahead but the only thing he could see was the picture he was painting with his words.
"But there's no one there," He whispered low into the receiver. "There's no one there but you and me, baby."
Your breath hitched as the fantasy started to turn sexual.
"Can you feel me, baby?" Goose asked. "I'm right there with you in the bed. I'm naked, too. I'm on top of you. We're looking into each other's eyes and I'm stroking your hair..."
"Are you kissing me?" You asked. You had the phone receiver nestled in the crook of your neck. You were starting to move your hands up and down and all over your body. You were feeling much more relaxed.
Goose smiled. "Mmm...yes, honey. I'm kissing you. Kissing your soft, sweet lips..."
Goose moaned just thinking about it.
"Your tongue on mine. Over and over and over. I'm kissing you all over your body. Mmmm...kissing your pretty little face. Kissing your chin and then right along your jawline. All the way down your neck...mmmm...You feel my mustache tickling your skin, baby?"
You giggled. "Mmmm...I bet it does tickle!"
"It's going tickle you everywhere. Everywhere."
You moaned at the scene playing out in your mind. You began to toy with your pebbled nipples and it made you start squirming.
"What are you doing, baby?" Goose asked. "Are you touching yourself already?"
"I'm playing with my nipples," You replied and you hear him make a throaty noise. "Are you going to suck on them, daddy? I want you to."
You had no idea if Goose was into the "daddy" kink thing. You knew from your experience some guys were and some guys weren't. His moan on the other end of the line confirmed he didn't mind it.
"Hold that thought, honey." Goose said.
Goddamn, this girl is going to be the death of me. He thought as he sat the handset down so he could pull off his shirt. He unbuttoned his jeans and unzipped the fly. He was getting harder and harder by the minute. He moved a box of tissues closer. He was definitely going to need them later.
"You there?" Goose asked when he picked up again.
"I'm here, baby, " You breathed, still stimulating your nipples with wet fingertips. "I'm here with you in the cabin. We're in the sheets. You're kissing me all over. You were going to give my nipples some attention."
"Mmm, yes, " Goose started to palm himself over his underwear. "I bet you got luscious titties, don't you? Do you like it when daddy kisses your titties, baby? Kiss, lick, suck." He made a popping noise as if he just sucked and released one of your nipples. "I love me some titties, darlin'."
"Who doesn't?" You said and you both laughed.
"That's true. Very true!" Goose agreed.
There were two types of people in the world as far as he was concerned. Those who love titties and those who lied about not loving titties.
"Are you going to titty fuck me, daddy?" You asked.
It caught Goose so off guard he didn't recognize his own voice when he made an ungodly moan and almost dropped the handset. He never had a woman ask him to do that before. Over the phone or in-person. It made him pull himself out of his underwear and let his now raging hard-on be free.
"Oh, honeyyy," He drawled. "Fuck yesss..."
You crossed your arms over your stomach so your breasts pressed together.
"Just like that, baby," You begged, picturing him sliding up and down in between your breasts. "Feels so good...mmm...yes, that's it..."
Goose couldn't help but be slightly amused.
"You're a little freak, aren't you?"
You gasped.
"So are you!" You defended with a laugh.
"Of course I am!" Goose licked his lips. “I’m a man after all and I’m in the Navy. It goes without saying. Aww, yes, honey...I'm fuckin' those great titties of yours."
He was steadily stroking himself now. You reached down in between your legs and started rubbing your nub with your manicured hand. You both continued to go back and forth about what you were doing to each other. You were going to put him in your mouth and suck him off. He was going to continue his journey down the length of your body. Kissing, licking, sucking, he assured you he would leave hickeys all over your skin.
"Don't worry," Goose told you . "They'll all be in places where nobody can see."
"Mmm...you're such a gentleman, " You teased. "Turns me on even more."
Goose snickered. "Hehe. I might be a gentleman but trust me, baby, before it's all over, I'll have you acting very unlady-like."
You sighed. "God, yes, please...."
Goose told you about how he was going to use both his mouth and fingers on you.
"I'm in between your legs now, honey. You taste so fuckin' good. Mmmm...You feel it? I like to take my time. Licking that pretty pussy of yours. Over and over and over. Is it pretty, isn't it, darlin'? Pretty just like the rest of you. Then I'm gonna take my fingers..."
He paused and gave them a wiggle before he went on:
"I'm going to take my fingers...my middle and ring fingers...and I'm gonna push them in and out. In and out, baby. Real slow at first..."
You had long since slid down your headboard and you were writhing in your sheets and moaning and panting heavy into the phone. The more this went on, the hotter it got and the more real it seemed.
"That's right, honey, " Goose praised you. "You feel these fingers in you? In and out. Mmm...and I'm still licking you. Mmmm...I'm going to go a little faster. Yeah, faster, faster. That's right. You're getting so wet for me."
You whimpered. "Yesss...Oh God, yes!"
It was true. You were getting wetter and wetter. You rubbed yourself faster.
"That's right, honey." Goose encouraged, loving hearing how you were getting more and more worked up.
"How hard are you right now?" You asked. "You gonna put it in me, baby? I want you inside of me."
Goose looked down and saw he was hard as a rock. He pumped himself faster.
"I'm ready for you, sweetheart. I'm so ready."
He pictured you naked and turned on and all spread eagle for him. It was a gorgeous sight. He just knew it.
"You feel me?" He asked. "I'm right up against you. I'm rubbing against you right now. You ready, darlin'?"
"Please!"  You cried.
"I'm going in, sugar." Goose's breathing was becoming as heavy and as labored as yours. "I'm inside you now. You feel so good, baby. Yesss, so damn good. Mmm...You feel me sliding inside of you? Mmm...In and out. In and out..."
"Don't stop!" You practically wailed. You were rubbing yourself vigorously.
"Aww, no, no, no," Goose grinned. "No, baby. I'm not stopping. I'm just getting started. In and out....Mmm... You're so fuckin' good... You feel so good...You feel the rhythm, baby? The nice rhythm we got going?"
Goose exhaled. "Ahhh. You feel soooo good!"
He had no doubt in his mind that in real life you felt incredible.
"Harder.." Your plea was just a breathy moan. Goose heard it but decided to tease you a little bit.
"What's that, darlin'? What did you say?"
You were so wet at this point you were starting to leave wet spots on your sheets.
"Harder, daddy, please!" You begged. Your back was arched and while your one hand was busy stimulating yourself, your other hand was putting your fingers in your mouth.
"Ah, you want me to fuck you harder, honey? You like it rough? Can you handle it, baby?"
Goose was starting to wonder how much more he himself could handle. You both were moaning in unison, both of you getting closer and closer.
"I'm right above you," Goose said. "I'm holding you down and I'm driving my hips into you. Over and over. Mmm...faster and faster...Mmm...you feel so fuckin' good! ...Yesss...So deep inside you...Hehe...I can hear how wet you are, honey..."
It was true. The noises you making were becoming obscene.
Goose couldn't help but feel a bit of an ego boost.
"You're making me feel so proud, honey. Keep it up. Atta girl. Yeah, that's it! Come and take it, baby! It's all yours!"
You weren't going to last much longer.
"Holy shit!" You cried. "I'm gonna...I'm gonna..."
"You gonna do what, baby? You gonna come for me? Is that it? I want you to."
You were a blubbering, whimpering mess. It was all you could do was moan into the phone. Your legs were shaking.
Goose was still pumping away.
"Ah, I love those sounds you're making," He groaned. "Like music to my ears, honey. Come on, baby. Yeah, that's good. Mmm...You can come, baby. I'll let you..."
He sucked in a sharp breath as he felt his own crescendo about to happen.
He cradled the phone in the crook of his neck as he reached for a handful of tissues.
"Come with me, darlin'," Goose egged you on. "Come with me. Come on...you can do it. You can do it, baby. Come with me...Ahhh!!!"
"Ohhh, babyyy!!! " You managed to cry. It seemed to be the thing that finally made you both come undone. Your whole body spasmed as you rode out your climax, uncontrollably moaning into the phone. You heard him grunting in rapid succession and knew he was feeling the release too.
You both listened to each other catch your breath for a minute.
Goose chuckled. "Look what you made me do, honey. I made a mess."
You were still trying to come back down to earth. You continued to ride your pleasure wave with little breaths, moans, and whimpers.
"So?..." Goose asked. He discarded the used tissues in the trash can and reached for his pack of Marlboro's. "How are you feeling now?"
He was hoping he helped you out at least a little bit. You certainly helped him.
You cleared your throat, still trying to recover. You opened your mouth to say something but you couldn't help but start giggling. Softly at first and eventually it became a giggle fit. You felt good. So good. Better than good.
Goose smiled listening to you. He, too, began to chuckle as he lit a cigarette and took a drag.
"As long as you're laughing with me and not at me!" He said. "Ahhh...You sound so pretty when you laugh. So? You have a good time, honey?"
You finally found your voice to speak:
"You were fantastic...Incredible."
It was no lie. You wondered if he could make you feel all that over the phone, then he must be dynamite in-person.
"You know, for a guy who said he thinks Valentine's Day sucks," You reminded him of what he said in his message. "You're actually quite the romantic, aren't you?"
You knew deep down he had to be. After coming up with the whole romantic cabin scenario on a whim like that.
Goose laughed. "You caught me, baby. Guilty as charged."
It was true. He was a romantic. A hopeless one, if he was being honest with himself.
"How was I? You know, my first time over the phone and all?" You asked.
Goose thought about telling you that was some of the hottest sex he'd ever had. Instead, he said:
"Perfect. Just...perfect. You were perfect."
"You're not at all what I expected when I called the number," You told him. You told him how you expected to get some creep or a desperate loser or both, neither of which he turned out to be.
"Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you, honey," Goose joked. "No, in all seriousness, you're not what I expected either. I didn't expect anything much other than an outrageous phone bill..."
He trailed off and you both groaned simultaneously, remembering how expensive calls to hotlines can run.
"Hey, Y/N?" Goose started. "This might sound kind of crazy but...could I call you, sometime? Outside this hotline?"
He really liked you and wanted to keep talking to you. If it kept going as well as it did, maybe the two of you could meet in person. Perhaps make the fantasy a reality?
"Sure, Goose," You replied, warmly. "I'd like that."
You definitely wanted to keep in touch.
After you gave him your number he said:
"Nick."
"What?"
Goose ran a hand through his hair and grinned.
"My real name. It's Nick."
You smiled.
"Well then, Nick. It's been a pleasure."
In more ways than one! You thought. "Good night."
"Likewise," Goose drawled. "Oh and hey, by the way...Happy Valentine's Day, honey."

Be My Baby by the Ronnettes for Goose! (Bet you didn’t see that coming…jk you probably did 😂)
My looooooooooooove sorry it took me so long, here you have it! <3
Be my baby | Nick "Goose" Bradshaw
Tumblr media
He met her at a bar. Mav and Goose were celebrating their acceptance in Top Gun. Goose was now a divorced man, and he didn’t want to start a new relationship anytime soon. He wasn’t looking for a one-night stand either. So, even though he was really interested in her, he didn’t make a move. It wasn’t the moment. He kept seeing her everywhere he went. But he needed to focus on the training program, and not on the cute girl he met at a bar. He didn’t even know her name.
One night, when Goose just wanted to have fun with his best friend after so many weeks of intense flying and dangerous maneuvers, they went to that same place. Beers, some pool, maybe even a cigar to celebrate... It wasn’t too much to ask, right?
But as soon as he entered the bar the night before going back home and saw her again, standing there in a beautiful sundress, his whole world stopped moving for a second. He wanted her. Forever didn’t seem like such a long time.
Goose didn’t think twice and approached her, ready to do whatever it took to have her.
“Excuse me, miss.” He waited a few seconds until the girl noticed that she was talking to her.
“Oh, I remember you. Can I help you?”
“Oh, I think you can. My name’s Nick. But everybody calls me Goose.”
The girl smiled, and Goose almost had a heart attack. How could someone be so pretty?
“What kind of name is Goose?”
“A call sign, actually. I’m a Naval Aviator.” He replied, taking a seat next to her.
She then revealed her name to Goose. He repeated it, tasting it in his mouth. Yeah, he wanted to repeat that name for the rest of his life.
“So, aside from taking my breath away, what do you do for a living?”
The girl giggled, covering her face. “That was smooth, Lieutenant. I’m a nurse.”
“I can keep going if you want me to.” He tilted his head, looking at the beautiful, brilliant eyes of the girl. He could get lost in them.
“How long?” She challenges him, testing the waters.
“Eternity seems long enough for you?”
“Hmmm, sounds good,” she nodded, leaning close to him, her knees touching his. “And what’s in it for me?”
“Well, we’ll have heads turning every place we go. I mean, look at us. I know I’m hot, but you, my dear? I can’t even describe it.”
“Go on."
“For every kiss you give me, I’ll give you three.”
"Tempting."
“Can I invite you to the next drink?”
The girl nodded, and he could already see his future with her.

Top Gun: Disney AU
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You had a feeling something was wrong all day, your stomach constantly in knots your anxiety causing your heart rate to skyrocket.
It was unusual for your papa, Mike, to not return the day he is supposed to. And if he knows he won’t, he sends word, so you and your siblings won’t worry… especially with the story of the lonely beast who roams the abandoned castle somewhere in the woods.
The story has always been your brothers’ favorite and the very reason they continue to join the hunting parties the people in town have been because they “want to protect the family.”
And there’s no way Mike would ever return during the night since his eyesight isn’t the same as it used to be (no matter how much he tries to deny it).
Another thing he would never do is let your most prized possession, your family horse, Peppermint, loose.
Your siblings know never to let anything happen to her; she was the last thing ever given to any of you by your mother, even if your family say she’s yours.
You can’t reminisce long as the sound of her neighs gets you to push yourself off your knees and quickly exit your small vegetable garden.
You’re quick to grab her reins and slowly place your hand on her head in the space between where her eyes meet (her favorite spot to be pet and the only place that can calm her down). You gently shush her, never removing your hand. “It’s all right, Peppermint. You’re safe now.”
You swear she understands you because it looks like she shakes her head, deep breaths huffing out of her nose as if she disagrees. “Where is papa?”
She takes a gentle step forward, trying to burrow her head into your hand. “Oh, no.”
The sound of your name diverts your attention away from your beloved horse.
“Rick.”
He closes the front door behind him. “What happened? Where is father?”
“I- I,” you struggle to respond, not having an answer yourself. “I don’t know.”
“What are we going to do?”
You take a deep breath. “I don’t know but I will find out, okay?”
“What do you mean? What does that mean, Belle?”
You purse your lips at the nickname your family hasn’t used since you were a child. You grab his arms, looking him in the eye. “I will be back. But, if I’m not. I need you to-”
“I’m not going to think of that because it’s not going to happen. I know you and I know you will bring our father home... just give me-”
You shake your head, “no. You are not coming.”
“I am your brother-”
“You are the youngest-”
“I’m older than you.”
You click your tongue, “still the youngest, but I will return. I promise. I just,” you glance over at the garden. “I need to find someone to tend the garden.”
“The garden.” His eyes widen as he thinks about what you’ve said. “The garden!?”
You nod, “yes, the garden. Don’t- I’ll be back.” You run to town knowing who you need to talk to will be there.
-
You stop, taking a deep breath before entering the town; you look around to see if anyone (who could tolerate you was nearby), you’re in luck. “Oh! Oh! Yes!”
You run over to Sam, typically known Merlin by those who don’t like him.
“Sam! Sam, dear!” You take a deep breath as you run to him. “Sa- am.”
He smiles upon your arrival until he sees your hunched over, out of breath position. “Deep breaths. In… and out. Again.”
“I know how to breathe but,” you take a deep breath, “thank you nonetheless.”
“Of course.”
“Now, the reason I rushed over is to ask you for a small favor?”
“And what favor is it this time?” He asks, with a raised brow.
You tend to ask him favors a lot, most of which consist of borrowing sugar or if he could help you find a screw so your papa can fix your clock, the one gifted to you by your mama before she passed since your siblings never want to help you with these things.
You shake your head. “I need you to watch over the garden… papa has not returned, and I fear for his safety. You know of the stories.”
“Which stories? Everyone in town is fearful of the woods for many reasons,” he points out, but the expression on his face doesn’t match his words which you ignore due to your worry of your papa’s safety.
“You know,” you lean forward as if you’re sharing a secret. “The stories of the beast.” You forgo the unnecessary details of the abandoned castle seeing as he was the one who told you about it, even though hardly anyone knew this minor detail... something you don’t find to be weird.
“You think he has wandered into the castle?”
You sigh. “I would most certainly hope not but he had asked me if I wanted anything when he decided to come back from his trip. Of course, I told him no seeing as he had too many items to get from the lists my sisters left, but he wouldn’t accept that answer. I fear he had stopped somewhere dangerous to get me such the thing I asked for, when he knew we could go on a trip to the nearby town and get it there. Oh.”
The man shushes you. “Don’t worry. I’m sure he’ll turn up before you can even exit the town line.”
You squeal, hugging him. “Thank you. Thank you so much, Sam. I will not forget this. The youngest of my brothers will be home but you know how none of them appreciate the love of the garden.”
He nods, “I do. Now, go home and pack a bag.” He pulls the blanket off his basket and hands you a few rolls he bought from the baker earlier along with a medical herb mix he makes for anyone who gets injured.
You shake your head, “oh, I couldn’t.”
“You can and you will. It will help you on your journey.”
“Okay. Thank you again, Sam.”
He smiles.
You run back to your home, grabbing your coat and bag with necessary items for any scenario you could think of on the spot; the book that you never take out lays at the bottom followed by some medical wrap, ointment, Sam’s “magical” herb mix as well as the rolls and a small handful of food suitable for humans and animals.
You want to pack more but there’s hardly any room for other things. “These are necessary items,” you tell yourself. “That’s all I can bring with me. It's okay. You’re okay,” you tighten the grip on the strap of your bag. “He’s okay.”
After getting Peppermint ready and grabbing the spare key for Sam, you return to where you last saw him.
-
Rick stands in the doorway. “I don’t like the thought of you leaving on your own.”
You nod, “yes well. If I don’t do it, we may not have a father anymore. Now move, Rick.”
He doesn’t.
“I said move.”
He gives in and takes a step back. “At least let me come with you.”
“No,” you shake your head. “I need you to stay here. Tom is working out of town so that he can have enough money to leave home while Charlotte and Penelope are out trying to find new fabric so that they can have new dresses made for them. One of us must be here.”
A heavy sigh slips past his lips. “Fine but, I’m not happy about this.”
“I know,” you smile before pulling him in for a hug. “I will be back before you know it.” You prepare Peppermint for the journey and take off back to your dearest (and only friend).
-
He turns to the sound of Peppermint’s hooves clopping against the dirt floor.
You reach into your bag for the key, holding it out for him to take. “I’ll be leaving now. If papa and I do not return before tomorrow…” You gulp.
He nods, pocketing the key before patting your shoulder in a comforting manner. “I will make sure you both return, if that is the case, you have my word.”
You resist the urge to smile, knowing full well that he and Rick would be the first ones to lead your search party. “I know I’ve said this before but... thank you.”
And you’re off.
You hoist yourself up on Peppermint's saddle and crack the reins, putting your faith into her to guide you to your papa’s last location.
-
She slows down once the two of you reach the blocked entrance of the forest where the beast has been rumored to reside.
“Is this where you came from?” You ask out loud, voice low, close to a whisper. “How did you two get in?”
As soon as those words are said, the splintered branches and thorny vines begin to retract themselves, creating a walkway for you to ride through.
Peppermint takes a step back; your hand instantly reaches her “special spot.”
“We’ve got this.” You pat her head before clutching the reins, “we can do this.”
There’s no turning back now, it’s now or never and you have your mother’s genes.
You crack the reins once more and run through, glancing over your shoulder to see the entrance return to its original state. You shake your head; you can’t focus on that and return your focus onto your current mission.
The wind continues to get harsher and colder; you lower your head to protect yourself, putting your full trust into your precious horse.
She slows her pace, but you can’t bring yourself to raise your head until she comes to a full stop.
It's even worse than you realized, the castle from all the stories is… beautiful.
The gray clouds that disturb the clear skies near the village and the fog on the lower levels may be enough for other people to turn around and leave but not you.
It fills you with a sense of nostalgia, reminding you of your older sister during childhood when Charlotte asked to hear a short story about your mother.
He couldn’t bring himself to tell you kids a lot, but he went into more detail about your mother’s hobby, painting and how her work wasn’t for everyone.
Later that night, your papa would tell you how he always admires you for finding the beauty in dark and twisted things because he couldn’t always do that himself which is why your mama’s paintings are covered and collecting dust.
It’s obvious how much it still pains him to talk about her.
You were about the age of ten when you found out what happened to her and your oldest brother, Tom, was the one to tell you. You don’t think it’s a moment you’ll ever forget and only because you found out the truth.
-
He tucks you in while your papa was working downstairs.
“What happened to her?”
“To whom?”
You ignore his gaze. “To mama.”
“Oh.” He doesn’t respond for a few minutes. “Do you remember when I told you of the plague that started to invade our first home?”
You nod. “As much as she tried and prevented us from getting it, she wound up getting the plague herself.”
“She did?”
He nods. “But she was never alone even in the end, she was still surrounded by those she loved... now it’s time for bed.”
-
You realized that night how much your father has truly done for you and your family even as he was dealing with heartache; he had whisked you all away from your first home to make you all stay healthy and safe.
And, after twenty-two years, he still loves her even as his life has changed and become darker; you still do your best to cheer him up, even if it’s only temporary... Which is why you can’t give up.
She stops a few feet away from the front steps of the castle.
You dismount from Peppermint and slowly walk towards the building, wary of where you step because of the icy grass and cracks in the ground. You hope your papa didn’t fall; you swear you hear the ground cracking as you hopped off her.
Her neighs pull you out of your thoughts, Peppermint nods towards the side of the building. You turn and walk in that direction only to find a few fallen petals, putting you on high alert.
You follow the trail and find a rose smashed into the ground due to large animal like footprint. You hold the dead rose in your hands. “Oh no.” Your head snaps up after a shingle falls, cracking on the ground, your eyes shift towards one of the many roofs to find a shadow staring.
A gasp escapes you; you push yourself up and move away from the area. Glass crunches under your foot, breaking into a million little pieces; you to look down.
You bend down, wiping away the small pile of snow (which is only on this side of the castle) that covers the item and find your father’s pocket watch. You quickly put it in your pocket before looking up, finding nothing there. “It must have been my imagination.”
You tighten your grip on your beloved Peppermint’s reins and walk back around towards the, now, open entrance of the castle. “I’ll be right back.”
Her defiant neighs and stomping of her hoof stop you.
You pet her, assuring the horse that you’ll be fine and won’t be long. You furrow your brows at the sight of the slightly ajar door, but your sense of worry overtakes your common sense. Your fingertips barely brush against the creaky door as it opens further. You take careful steps inside, not wanting to fall with the poor lighting hiding the dark floor.
The door slams shut, you jump and turn at the echoing boom!
You take a second to think about what just happened. “Don’t worry. You’re inside, you’re safe.” Your mantra doesn’t ease your anxiety or heart as you continue through the castle.
A faint echoing thump piques your interest.
‘Papa?’ You run up the stairs, searching for the noise and eventually you find yourself in a dungeon.
The thumping becomes louder and clearer than it had been before the closer you get to the staircase; you rush down the spiraling staircase, keeping one hand on the wall so you don’t fall. You pause when you notice how narrow and long the walkway is.
Even with how dark it is, you can still see the cracks wherever you step, concerning you for yours and your papa’s safety.
You carefully step forward, slow enough to apply a little pressure needing to see if it's safe enough for you to walk and once you do, you grab the source of light to your right off the shelf and continue.
The gasp escapes you before you can stop it. “Papa!”
He looks so defeated and scared.
Mike calls out your name, his hands wrapping around the cell door bars, keeping him steady. “You must leave. The- the stories-”
Your eyes bounce around all over, in search of something. “Where is the key?”
“You have to leave before he finds you.”
“What are you talking about? I’m not going to leave you here to suffer. You’re needed back home, and I will make sure that happens.”
He’s shocked. “But- but you have to.”
You shake your head, “I can’t. I will not lose another one of my parents. You have much more to teach the others, things I cannot.”
He softly says your name.
You don’t respond and ignore him until he says your nickname. “Belle. Belle. Stop.” He grabs your hand, holding it tight to get you to stop.
You stare at him with sad, tearful eyes and he only smiles in return. “It’s okay.” You lower your head.
A heavy thud against the last step gets you to flinch and snap your head over in that direction.
‘The shadow from outside.’ Your heart beats faster, filling you with worry and dread until it disappears.
The cell door opens, both of you are hesitant to move before you rush to pull him out.
“We are leaving,” you throw his arm over your shoulders. “We’re leaving and we’re not turning back.”
Your papa doesn’t fight you nor does he say anything as you two exit the castle.
“How do we get out?”
“I have to go back,” he mumbles.
“No,” you argue. “You are not going back to that dreaded place. It- the beast let you go. Why else would the door open?”
“He didn’t,” he shakes his head. “The beast told me if I leave, I will only have twenty-four hours to see my family again before I have to return.”
“Twen- twenty-four hours?! That’s not enough time to say goodbye.”
The conversation dwindles from there.
-
You two manage to make it back to your home before it gets dark.
“Rick!” You call out for your brother, “Rick!”
He runs out of the house, the tension leaving his shoulders at the sight of the two of you. He calls out for the two of you as he rushes over to help your father off Peppermint.
“Have the others returned yet?” As soon as you uttered those words, your other siblings rush out the door, calling out for your papa.
Once Rick, Charlotte, and Penny take your father inside, Tom turns to you. “What happened?”
You explain that he was out to get the things from the list you all had given him, and Peppermint was the one to return, leading you to an abandoned castle.
He raises a brow at the mention of the castle. “An abandoned castle?”
You nod, “yes. Why do you sound as if you don’t believe me?”
“I never said that.”
“You didn’t need to.”
He clears his throat, “let’s go inside and enjoy the fact that father is home.” He stops, “one more thing. Stop giving your key to that man.”
“Sam? He’s harmless.”
“I don’t trust him.”
“Yeah, well. I do. He’s nicer to me than everyone else in the village other than the librarian Adam or that buffoon Gaston when he’s trying to make Penny jealous.”
“Stop talking to him.” He walks ahead of you, leaving you to look back at the village.
Your shoulders sag, you know what you need to do.
You prepared dinner as you planned and enjoyed what you knew to be your last night at home.
Once everyone cleaned up and went to their rooms, you sneak downstairs, grabbing your coat and bag before mounting Peppermint’s saddle.
“This is the last time you’re going there. I promise.”
And you’re off.
-
She stops at the entrance once again.
“We need a way in.” You stop for a minute and think.
“I am... trading my papa’s place with me?” You tilt your head when the entrance opens again. You shake your head, knowing you can’t focus on it any longer.
You grip the reins as tight as you can before cracking them.
-
You hop off Peppermint and pet her one last time before trying to let her go. “Run home, Pep. It’s not safe for you to be here.”
She nudges her head in your hands.
You sigh, “you can’t fight with me on this.”
You can’t resist those eyes, “fine but you stay here until I can find a safe place for you.”
-
You slowly enter the castle, not expecting to see candles lit or there to be less cracks in the floor, maybe you should have paid more attention to your surroundings before you ran in search of your papa.
The door slams shut behind you, you jump turning around to look at who it was only to find a rocking coat rack. “Odd.”
“You returned?” The low, deep voice says as it echoes throughout the first floor. Your poor heart can only take so much more.
“Uh- yes,” you slowly respond, searching for him.
“You returned in place of your father?”
“I did. He needs to be in a place where he can be properly taken care of and continue to look after my family.” Your hand rests on the pillar, adjacent from the stairs, as you peek around the corner only to find nothing.
“The thief has a family.”
You furrow your brows, taking offense to his comment.
“He is not a thief!”
The beast jumps down a few feet behind you and shakes the ground, your arms circle the air as you try to keep your balance before turning around.
“He stole the one thing that is precious to me. He is a thief,” his voice lower and more menacing than it was earlier.
“He is not a thief! He was trying to get the one thing his youngest child asked for because he knew it would make her happy!” You shout at him, chest heaving, eyes full of fire, something he hasn’t seen in a very long time.
The beast scoffs, ignoring the nostalgia that tries to worm its way into his cold heart. “You are to have dinner with me every day.”
Your head jerks back. “What if I don’t want to?”
“You’ll have dinner with me, or you will starve.”
You furrow your brows not understanding where he thinks he has the right to control you and what you do. “I will do whatever I want to do. You are not the boss of me!”
“Fine!” He whirls around, “see if I care whether you live or die!”
And he runs up into one of the wings, no longer wanting to see you.
You can’t believe the nerve of the- the- your eyes widen. You gave attitude and talked back to the beast from the stories you’ve been told about for as long as you can remember (since you moved to the village). “I just- oh my,” you take a deep breath and try to calm yourself.
“You held yourself together. Better than I ever could,” a male voice says.
You whirl around, finding no one there. “Who said that?”
“I did.”
You look down and find a candelabra there. Your eyes widen and you fall back into the nearest chair. “I’ve lost my mind. I’ve lost it and it’s never coming back.”
“Don’t say that mademoiselle.”
“I’m saying it.”
An awkward silence fills the air.
“Maybe having dinner will take your mind off things?” He weakly offers.
“I think I need to sleep right now. I can’t- I still don’t believe everything I’ve seen today.”
“Follow me.”
-
You lay in bed, dressed in the night gown that was laid across the bed (after a long fight with your inner conflict about if you should or shouldn’t wear it).
It takes a long time until you can go to sleep and when you do, you dream of strange things such as a man dancing around with a woman in a ballroom.
The pillars look the same as the ones you saw in one of the main rooms earlier.
You don’t know who they are or why you’re dreaming about them or even how you remember them when you wake up. Sitting up in bed, looking around the room, you realize how stuffy it is.
You need to get out of this room and learn more about your new… place of residency.
-
You barely make it down the stairs to the main room you were in the night before when the candelabra interrupts your thoughts.
“Good morning, mademoiselle.”
You slowly turn, staring at the object. “Good morning,” you slowly say.
“Oh, forgive me. I never told you, my name. I am,” he spins around, “Pete, Maverick to others.”
A smile stretches across your lips, “it’s nice to meet you, Pete. I was going to do some exploring since this is where I’ll be... from now on.”
“Ah, you can visit any place here you’d like but- uh- don’t go to the west wing.”
“What’s in the west wing?”
“Nothing-”
“Lots of damage. It’s dangerous for you to explore.”
You furrow your brows at the sight of the clock. “And who are you?”
He stutters, not entirely sure if he should tell you or not.
“This is Marcus, also known as Sundown,” Pete says, introducing his friend.
“It’s nice to meet you, Marcus. Are there any more of you or is it just you two here?”
“Oh, no,” the candelabra shakes his head. “There are more of us, very few though. Most of them got away before they could be touched by the spell.”
“How many of you are there?”
“Too many to count.”
You fall back into the nearest chair when the tea cart bumps into your side.
“Oh, sorry dear. The young prince isn’t so good with directions,” the tea pot tells you as she offers you a kind and welcoming smile.
“Yes, yes. Sorry, miss,” the second teacup apologizes.
“It’s alright,” you smile back at him.
“You must need something to warm you right up and I know just the thing.” A cup of tea comes towards you.
“Be careful, Chip.”
“Yes, mother.” He turns back to you, “hello there.”
“He- hello. I take it you’re Chip?”
“Yes, miss.”
“Should I be drinking from him?” You turn to the tea pot. “It doesn’t seem right.”
“It’s alright,” she assures you. “It won’t hurt him if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“Okay,” you take a sip and pull back when a bubble pops.
“Chip! How many times have I told you not to do that?”
“Sorry, mother.”
“Oh no. It’s okay, he’s having fun.”
“Don’t encourage the two. They’re handfuls already,” she jokes.
A coatrack hops closer to your small group.
“And that,” Pete begins. “Is our favorite of us all, the ever so silent, Leonard also known as Wolfman.”
“I take it he talked a lot?” You ask.
“Yep, you could never get him to shut up.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Leonard.”
He waves a wooden post in return.
“Sorry about them dear. Oh, I almost forgot, I’m Mrs. Potts and the boy blowing bubbles is my son Chip and this one behind me is the young prince, Bradley.”
“It’s very nice to meet you all.”
“You’re pretty,” Bradley gushes before hiding behind Mrs. Potts.
“Thank you, Bradley,” you offer a gentle smile. “And you are a handsome young boy.”
“You don’t know what I look like.”
“You have a kind personality, that makes you extra handsome,” you whisper as if it’s a secret the others shouldn’t be hearing.
He giggles and spins around the other boy.
-
None of you knew but the beast formerly known as King Nick (Nicholas Bradshaw the II) was in his secret passageway, listening and watching over his boy as he had begun to do after the passing of Queen Carole but more so when the curse was placed on the kingdom.
Part of him wonders if you’ll be the one to break the spell while the other part wants nothing to do with you to spare him from any future heartache.
Maybe tonight he’ll eat dinner with you, apologize for his behavior.
He shakes his head, “no, no. She is not the one. She-”
An earthquake shakes the building, small debris falls from the ceiling.
He runs through the walls, not caring if he makes any noise.
-
He takes careful, steady steps into the room not wanting his heavy footsteps to cause another petal to fall. He sighs at the small, broken rose.
-
Once the shaking stops, you glance around the room.
“What was that?” The older woman sighs.
“Another petal has fallen,” Marcus chimes in.
“What- what does that mean?”
“If the last petal falls, the curse takes place and we all become objects while my father remains a beast,” Bradley answers you.
“You’re all cursed?” Your voice comes out as a whisper.
“Sadly, yes,” the tea pot informs you.
“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault, dear.”
“How did-” You glance back at the two boys and decide not to ask now, you don’t want to bring up any bad memories. “When did it happen?”
“We’ve lost count over the years that have passed,” Pete tells you.
“Oh.”
“That’s enough of that,” the clock interrupts. “I think it’s time for lunch.”
“Okay. Am I going to get another dance number with all the utensils and plates?”
“You never know, mademoiselle.”
You narrow your eyes at Pete.
A few days later…
The others have things to do, and you’re left alone so you take this opportunity to venture around the castle. Nothing fun or very interesting in, what you assume, and hope is the north wing. Same thing with what you do know as the east wing (the sign was helpful).
You take careful steps as you walk into this wing since it’s more run down than any others you’ve seen so far. Your head snaps to the left, eyebrows knit together when you see nothing there.
Maybe it was nothing.
You continue and slowly open the creaky door, silently groaning to yourself as the creak echoes.
Once the door is open wide enough you walk further into the room, eyes catching the sight of the not dead rose trapped in a glass confinement.
You tilt your head trying to figure out why because the rose should be dead along with the fallen petals.
-
Nick’s shoulders sag as he walks up the steps, so much for taking a nap.
This time though, he woke with less heartache than the night before.
He knows he’ll never be able to forget her, his beloved wife, Carole.
She was his everything and always up for an adventure, which coincidentally is how the two found each other in the first place.
If only they had taken precautions and checked to make sure there were no bees.
They knew her family had a history of being allergic to bees, but she was lucky enough to have never come across any… until the search for the most majestic deer anyone could see came about.
Sometimes he wishes he never wanted to try and hunt the creature but then he comes to the realization that there was nothing he could do.
He shakes his head to forget his cries for her and how Bradley would never see her again.
His large body walks through the door without noticing the door was already open, not until he lifts his head to see you staring at the glass with a confused expression, he can’t focus on that for long as his nerves and heartbreak take over.
“No! Don’t touch it!” Nick rushes over towards it. “You were told to stay away from the west wing!” He growls at you, spit leaving his mouth landing on your cheeks and forehead. He takes a step closer, “you could have ruined everything! Ruined my chance to save my son!”
You step back. “I’m- I’m sorry- I-”
He stops moving and lets out everything he was feeling in that moment, what he felt when he lost Carole, when he was turned into this- damned thing, and what (he thinks) it would feel like to lose his boy.
A deep growl comes from the back of his throat. The vibration of the powerful noise is more than enough to cause the room to shake, the slashed painting on the wall rattles behind you, terrifying you to your core.
You don’t wait until he’s finished before running out of the room, down the stairs, and out the doors.
None of the cursed servants and prince can stop you even as they call out for you... not even the youngest of them all.
-
You hope you're close to the end of this hellish nightmare as you begin to slow your pace, unable to sprint anymore.
You’ve exerted too much of your energy to keep going and force yourself to slow down taking deep breaths as you stand hunched over with your hands on your knees.
Growling comes from your left; your head snaps up.
Your eyes widen at the wolf, and you begin to think. ‘I could outrun a wolf… can’t I? How fast are they?’
Until four more stand beside it.
You blink away your tears, taking slow steps backwards.
Maybe if you moved slowly and cautiously away from them, they wouldn’t see you as a threat, although you know better; the illogical part of you can’t help but take over during this time.
A flash tosses one of the wolves away.
You shout out, “behind you!”
As a wolf lunges at the beast, you were so terrified of before you ran out here and grab a stick, doing your best to quickly shove it off him.
All the wolves leave before the beast could harm another.
You don’t know if you should try and help him not… even if he is technically the reason you left.
“Are you going to help me?” He grumbles under his breath, and you just- you want to smack him.
A heavy sigh comes through your nose before you can stop it.
“Oh, and now she’s mad.”
You scoff through your nose.
“A thank you would be nice.”
“I wouldn’t have been out here or almost died if it wasn’t for you.”
“Ungrateful.”
“Ungrate-” You stand in front of him, one hand resting on his chest while the other latches onto his arm. “You are in no condition to walk back on your own.”
“Oh, am I not?”
You narrow your eyes to him. “And what do you suppose we do? I don’t think either of us have much of an option, right now.”
A familiar neigh stops you before you could answer him. “Perfect timing as always, Pep.” You turn back to the slumping lump of a beast.
“Now, get on.”
“I’ll crush it.”
“You won’t. She can handle it. It’s either this or you die in a blizzard... which won’t happen.”
“Why not?” He asks, lying on the back of your beloved horse with his chest on the saddle.
“I won’t be the one to tell your son his father died because of his pride.”
No other words were exchanged between the two of you that night or the following two nights as he rested.
-
While you comfort the young prince, your second oldest sister, Penny asks your brothers and father if she could ask Gaston for help, to which they denied her.
None of them wanted to deal with the man whose ego is so big, he can’t walk straight (they make jokes about how he always manages to walk into a mirror, even though that happened one time when he still ate three dozen eggs).
She clicks her tongue in disappointment, stopping her foot for extra flair.
“Penny,” Tom starts. “We don’t need to involve that idiot; he’s done nothing but try to ruin us. Why would we start to give into him and his demands now?”
“He is good. He will help is. He told me so himself.”
“And you truly believe him? Even after he told people of rumors about you.”
“That wasn’t him.”
“Well, it certainly wasn’t the old man that did it,” he looks off into the direction of Sam.
She stomps her foot and walks away, slamming the door to her shared room.
“Nice,” Rick comments with sarcasm.
“I didn’t see you jumping in there to help me.”
“I thought you had it handled.”
“If I had it handled our sister wouldn’t be out there with that- that beast!”
Rick takes a step back, looking at Tom, trying to get a read on him and it’s clear that he feels like it’s his fault even though none of them had control over this situation. “None of us could have ever known that this is what fathers' trip would lead to.”
“I should have known. I’m the oldest, I look out for us. I told him he didn’t need to take this trip.”
“You didn’t?”
“No.” He shakes his head, “but he was sure he did, and it made sense why he thought so.”
“Why?”
“Penny and Charlotte were out of dresses.”
Rick smacks his brother's arm, understanding that his only way to deal with this is through humor, even if it's only temporary. “What do you plan to do?”
“I’m not involving that imbecile, that’s for sure.”
“Oh, but haven’t you heard his story about how he ate three dozen eggs to help him get large and after started to go for four dozen once he was large.”
Tom narrows his eye at his younger brother, “you know I do and that’s exactly why.”
-
You gently wipe away the blood. “You can go to sleep you know. No one is going to hurt you.”
“I know no one would hurt me.”
“Someone’s cocky,” you mumble.
“What was that?”
You shake your head. “Nothing.”
He hisses and tries to pull his hand away.
“Hold still. I’m almost done and then you can rest some more.”
The others watch as you take care of him, wondering what’s changed for the cold-hearted king to be so… kind to you after everything that’s happened.
You place the wet rag back into the bowl, placing it on the table beside his bed. “I’m going to put this on your wounds.” You lift the bottle Sam gave you a few days earlier.
“What is it?”
“A gift from a friend.”
“And how do I know you’re not actually trying to poison me?”
“If I was, you would know and why would my friend try to poison me?”
“I don’t know.”
“That wasn’t a very good question to ask.”
He doesn’t say anything and grumbles under his breath, low enough for you to not hear what he says.
“You’re not going to complain or anything as long as you want someone to take care of yo-our wounds.” You cringe at the thought of saying “take care of you”.
You barely know him and already find yourself enamored with him.
Oh no.
He doesn’t say much else and moves when you tell him to.
“Now, that your wounds are taken care of. I’ll see myself out. Get more rest.” You rush out before he can try and argue with you.
-
The others follow in your footsteps, leaving their king and prince alone.
“Papa?”
“Yes, Bradley?”
“Do you think she will be the one to break the spell?”
Nick doesn’t turn to look at his son. How can he answer a question like that when he doesn’t know himself? How can he move on from Carole?
She was the love of his life.
Maybe that’s why he can’t.
He feels that if he does then he and Bradley will forget her and he could never bring himself to do that, even if he does struggle to talk about her.
“She’s a very nice person.”
Nick hums, faintly listening to his boy as he goes on about her family and the sacrifices they’ve made. He furrows his brows, “what do you mean?”
“About what?”
“The sacrifices her family has made. What do you mean by that?”
“Oh. She told me when she was a baby, her mama got sick, and her family had to leave making her papa sad. And her big brother has been working hard to make sure they can all buy things they need while her sisters search for husbands and her other brother stays to help her papa with his creations.”
“And what of her?”
“She can’t leave her family alone. They need someone to look after them.”
“Who takes care of her?”
The boy furrows his painted brows. “I don’t know.”
That’s why you chose to trade your life for his.
Nick holds back a groan thinking back to the number of times he called your father a thief. “When did you find this out?”
“Not long ago.” Nick imagines, if his boy was human again, he would have shrugged.
The boy yawns for the third time today.
It’s as though time is running out faster than he would have hoped for.
The two Bradshaw’s fall asleep, one dreaming of a time when he could have fun without worrying about breaking into pieces; the other, he dreams of dancing with the one he is to call his wife.
-
You, more or less, have the same dream although this one turns into a nightmare with two women dying.
You push yourself up, no longer feeling the need to sleep. You couldn’t tell who either of the women were at first.
But the more you think about it, you slowly begin to see who it is.
As you sit in bed, analyzing all that you dreamed of, you knew one was your darling mother while the other was Bradley’s mother, the beast’s first love. You still cannot wrap your mind around the fact that you keep dreaming of her.
Maybe sitting in front of the fire would help you fall back asleep.
You take the blanket off your bed and wrap it around your shoulders as you tiptoe out of your room and down the stairs until you make it to the main room.
The fireplace is already going by the time you sit in the chair.
You let your mind wander, curious as to what your family is doing.
-
Hardly anyone sleeps soundly in your family’s home anymore as they continue to work on a plan to bring you home.
“Why can’t we leave and try to find it?” Charlotte asks.
“Because, as I’ve said before, Char. We don’t know where it is. How many times do I have to tell you that,” Tom tells her.
“I don’t know, I didn’t hear you. Tell me again.”
Mike does his best to clear the tension between your siblings.
“Enough.”
They don’t stop, it’s like they don’t even hear him and continue to bicker at one another.
“Enough!”
They turn towards him, giving him their full attention.
“You two are adults and will act like it because you are not the only ones scared for the safety of your sister.”
They lower their heads, muttering apologies.
“We need to focus on figuring out where that damned castle is so we can bring Belle, home.”
Rick doesn’t want to ask but knows if he doesn’t, no one will. “Do you remember where it is? You said it was surrounded by the forest; how did you manage to make it through?”
“I,” your papa pauses, thinking back. “I just- there was an opening.”
“Where?”
“There was- there was just an opening.”
“We need to know where she went, we need to know how to find our sister.”
“I understand that. I know better than anyone how it is to miss someone but there wasn’t anything significant that could help us.”
“What if we talk to Gaston?”
The three men turn towards Penny.
“He might be able to help.”
“We’re not going the idiot so he can flex his muscles,” Tom explains to her.
She rolls her eyes, “he wouldn’t do that.”
“He does it all the time and it’s annoying because you get distracted and that’s not gonna help us.”
She huffs, “do you want to find her or not?”
“Of course, we do but we’re going to do it without him.”
“Have any of you told anyone anything about Belle’s current... predicament?” Rick asks. He remembers the weird looks the people in town were giving him earlier that day.
“Why do you ask?” Charlotte chimes in.
“You don’t want her to talk to Gaston about this but, I felt eyes on me as I walked through town earlier.”
“But you always have eyes on you. We all do,” Tom argues.
“I know, I know.” Rick starts, “it just- it felt like there were more eyes on me today and I feel like people are noticing that she isn’t home. I think they’re starting to talk about it.”
“Ignore anything they say. We’re bringing her home no matter what it takes, you got it?” Tom gives his siblings a stern look.
They nod, not giving him a verbal response.
Sometimes it’s better to go along with what Tom tells em rather than try and argue with him. “It’s too late for us to go out tonight but first thing when we wake up, we’re searching for her.”
Your papa and younger brother nod.
“We’ll stay here in case she comes back,” Charlotte adds.
It was agreed that this was the plan and if they couldn’t find you tomorrow- they’re not thinking about that because they won’t stop.
They’ll keep going until they can’t any longer.
-
You wake up to find yourself in the bed that’s been deemed as yours. You furrow your brows, knowing for a fact that you did leave this room at some point.
Part of you wonders if it was a dream or if the beast carried you back here.
You find a book on the nightstand and fight the urge to smile before dismissing the thought, not being able to imagine him doing something so kind… even if you did recently help him with his wounds.
You get dressed and don’t plan on asking him if he did or not, it’d be easier to forget your crazy thought than try and dig for information.
You don’t find anyone in the hallway or near the stairs, other than the echoing putter patter of what you assume to be the hunting dogs, remembering the brief description of how Bradley’s mother passed.
You feel for the boy, knowing how he feels especially since it happened when he was so young and why… Nick acts the way he does.
You consider yourself lucky since your papa never lashed out at any of you. You know what you’re going to do today.
You walk along the lower hallways, stopping when you spot a familiar tall figure speaking to his son.
You find yourself standing beside the doorway, unsure if you should leave or not, knowing that the floorboards would creak underneath you.
-
“She is a nice person.”
“So, I’ve heard,” his father mutters before setting his son down onto the table so he can search for another book. “You should smile at her.”
“Why would I do that, Brad?”
“She doesn’t have many friends and I know you would like her.”
“I don’t think anyone could befriend a beast,” he mutters under his breath. “That sounds like an interesting idea.”
“She likes to read.”
“Does she now?” He asks as if he doesn’t already know.
If the boy was human, he’d be nodding. “Yep! And she’s read a lot of the books we have here.”
“Oh.”
“I think she’d like to visit our library.”
“Interesting.”
“Her favorite is also yours.”
“Really?”
“I think she’s a good person to talk to… she would understand why you’re angry if you told her more about mama.”
Nick spins around, “what do you mean? Did you tell her of your mother?”
“Only after she told me how her mama died a few months after she was born. Her papa doesn’t talk about her.”
He sighs. “I don’t want to burden anyone else with knowing about your mother.”
“She would be happy to listen. She smiles every time I talk about her.”
“And how many times has that been?”
The boy doesn’t respond for a few seconds, trying to figure something out. “Twice.”
“And she was nice enough to take the time to listen to your ramblings?”
The teacup jumps up in happiness. “She did. She only got sad when she told me how no one from her family can speak of her without getting sad or not wanting to speak of her at all.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Tell her.”
“I’m with him.” Pete pops up out of nowhere.
Nick purses his lips, not liking when the two agree (ever, it never turns out well). “I can’t just tell her. She won’t understand and I- I wouldn’t be able to explain it to her.”
“Then take the time to explain it to her,” Pete adds with a “duh” tone.
“I’m not doing that. She doesn’t like me and I’ve- I’ve grown to accept that.”
“But-”
“Enough Bradley, it’s time for your lessons with Miss Potts and Chip.”
“He’s not wrong, you know.”
“Can it, Mav. It’s not happening.”
“But she still has it.”
“No. No one else has that loving feeling but-”
“You know it’s okay to open up your heart. She would want you to be happy, that’s all she ever wanted.”
“How can I be happy when it feels like I’m betraying her?”
“That just proves you loved her with all that you could.”
“So, that means I have nothing left to give?”
“N- No, I meant that you loved Carole with all that you could. Now, you have a chance to prove to yourself that you’re not the grumpy old man you pretend to be.”
“I’m not a grumpy old man,” Nick mumbles.
“Oh, you’re right. You’re an angry old man who pretends his heart is ice-cold and black, like he’s not worthy of finding someone new to love.”
“I’m done with this conversation.”
“Only because you know I’m right.”
Nick walks out of the room before he grabs his friend and throws him out a window (again). He huffs, debating on walking through the walls today.
‘Maybe I should try and show her kindness? Perhaps the book isn’t enough.’
He walks down the hallway, his ears twitching when Miss Potts' voice echoes through the hallway.
He steps closer, hiding behind the door, watching as the older woman talks to the kids and you.
-
“I wish I could help more around here. I feel like I’m not doing much.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that deary,” Miss Potts assures her.
“I can’t. At home… at my family’s home we would always be doing some kind of chore especially since our papa is getting older and can’t do a lot without getting hurt and prefers to be working on clocks as well as any other item that need to be fixed,” you smile, thinking about it.
“I hope they’re all okay.”
“I’m sure they are,” Miss Potts tries her best to reassure you.
You shrug, “perhaps.” You push yourself out of the chair. “Excuse me, you two have lessons you should be doing.”
You exit the room in search of something else to do.
-
The tall beast managed to scurry away before you could get closer.
Nick watches from a distance, realizing how sad you must be... away from your family. He knows what he needs to do.
-
You stand in the very same ballroom that continues to haunt your dreams. You hadn’t the faintest idea who the woman is in your dreams, and it makes you sad when you think about it because after learning about how Bradley’s mother passed, you believe it’s her.
You just- you don’t know why she’s haunting you in your dreams. You take a second and close your eyes, thinking back to when you would dance with your brothers and sisters.
It was a happy time; none of you had nearly as many responsibilities as you do now.
“What are you doing?”
You flinch, not expecting anyone else to be here. “Uh,” you spin around, staring at him. “Nothing?”
Nick raises a brow, “it didn’t look like nothing.”
“I was- uh- just- uh-”
He continues to stare at you, waiting for your response.
“I was… just remembering when my siblings taught me how to dance.”
“Oh.”
“We always dreamed of being grownups and dancing in such a magnificent ballroom, you know, like yours.”
“Would you…” His words become quieter making it harder for you to hear. “I was wondering if you- if you wanted to dance?”
He hasn’t been this nervous to ask someone to dance in a long time.
Maybe it was a good thing.
Your lips form into an “O” shape. “Or not, I get it-” “I would love to.”
With the way you two stare at one another, it’s clear to see how surprised both of you are.
“Tonight?” “After dinner?” You two ask at the same time, chuckling at one another’s response.
“After dinner,” you nod.
“I’ll see you then.”
-
You run in the direction of your room, needing to change into something more suitable for dancing.
Dinner was wonderful as always but this one seemed to be more special than any previous meals.
You slowly walk down the staircase, seeing Nick across the way. A small smile gracing your lips, your heart races at the thought of dancing with him.
It scares you, how excited you are to dance with someone who wreaked havoc into your life.
He holds his hand out, waiting for you to come down the last few steps.
You slowly place your hand into his much larger paw, guiding you down the final staircase.
He carefully steps forward, not wanting to overstep his boundaries or startle you.
You step forward, leaving the proper amount of distance between you two.
He leads, taking a step forward, you take one backwards, continuing this until he changes things and spins you around.
You’re free as you continue dancing with him, not thinking of anything else other than the fact that you’re enjoying yourself at this moment, more than you have in a long time.
Once it’s over he invites you to his library, the one place Pete and Bradley were nice enough to show you the other day.
Part of you wished you could have read something with him…
‘Maybe another time.’
“I have something I want to show you.”
You follow him without saying another word, curiosity overpowering any other thought you have.
-
“The one who cursed me gave me this, along with a few other things as you know.”
You reach out to touch the book but pull away before you could. “What does it do?”
“It’s a cruel joke.”
“Why?”
“It was designed to take me anywhere in the world, show the world of the beast that I am.”
“And you chose to show me, why?”
“I think it’s time I- I show you I can be the person they tell you I am.”
“And who is that?”
“Someone who can brighten someone’s mood when they’re upset.”
You smile to yourself, maybe you haven’t given him the benefit of the doubt.
Yet again, all you’ve ever come to know with him is his anger, you haven’t been given much of an opportunity to see any other side of him.
“Where to?”
You whisper, your family’s old home. Where you lived when you were only a few months old.
You look around, a sad expression on your face as you see the unfinished work, unmade bed, and the closed trunk off to the side.
“Oh, Paris? Interesting choice,” Nick comments, not paying all that much attention to you. “Should we go see the Ei-” He turns around. “What’s wrong?”
You wipe your cheek. “It’s- I- this was my home when I was- uh- when I was younger. This was the last place I ever saw my mama.”
“Why is that?”
You can’t find it in you to answer him as you find a special rose pen that you know belonged to her.
“This is a doctors mask.”
You nod, gulping down whatever spit had built up in your mouth, although you know what happened to her that doesn’t stop you from answering any questions he may have. “She was sick, and we had to leave. We- we couldn’t stay here.”
You wipe the corner of your eye. “I never knew what our first home looked like. I wanted to see the last place she was in before she passed. But I-” You take a deep breath.
“I understand. We can return, if you’d like.”
You nod, “please.”
You two return to the castle.
“I need to- I need-”
“You need to what?”
You spin around, looking at him. “I need to- to- to see my family.”
“What?” He whispers.
“I need to see my family. I- I need to see if they’re alright. I haven’t been able to see them in a long time. I’m worried about them. Please, if… if there is any compassion left in you, let me go see my family just- just this once and I will never ask you for anything again.”
He doesn’t respond nor does he make any movement.
“I- no- forget it, forget I said anything.”
He opens a drawer and pulls out a mirror. “Use this.”
“What?”
“If you wish it, you may see your family.”
“I- how does this work?”
“Another gift.”
You lift the mirror, “I wish to see my family,” you whisper.
An image of your family arguing with Gaston concerns you, more so when it pans on the man forcing your family in the back of a familiar wagon.
“No. No. No,” you mutter. “What is it?”
Nick comes to stand beside you, seeing the traumatizing scene. He knows what needs to happen, deep down, he would do the same if the tables were turned. “You need to go.”
“What?”
“You need to go help your family.”
“But I-”
He shakes his head, “it’s okay. I understand.”
“I will-”
“Don’t- don’t say anything. Your horse is going to get waiting outside.”
“I- I can’t thank you enough.” You bunch up the skirt of your dress in your hands, keeping hold of the mirror.
“Go.”
Your eyes fill with tears because of your family’s current predicament and the fact that you have to leave him.
“Thank you.” You don’t look back as you run down the hallway or down the stairs or out the doors, only when Peppermint is close to the broken forest entrance do you and it breaks your heart to watch the sad beast man hang off one of the roofs.
It reminds you of the first time you saw him.
“Faster, Peppermint,” you crack the reins.
-
“I was the one who had it all,” he mumbles when your figure gets further away from the castle.
He slumps down, mindlessly wandering through the castle.
“Father?”
He turns, placing one paw on the staircase railing. “Bradley?”
“Where is she going?”
“To her family.” He returns to his previous task and continues up the stairs.
“You let her go?” Pete asks, unsure if he could believe it.
“He loves her too much to keep her when she’s clearly needed elsewhere,” Miss Potts adds.
“Oh.”
“Are we ever going to become human?” Chip asks.
“I don’t know, Chip,” she responds.
-
You keep your attention focused in front of you.
You don't know how much further you have to go but you know that you're close, you can sense your family is near as Peppermint gallops closer towards the entrance of the village.
As soon as she makes it through the entrance of the village, you immediately hear the cries for help from your family members and the angry comments coming from the villagers (who never liked you or your family ever since you arrived).
When Peppermint swerves around the wagon you immediately hop off with no sense of the possibility of accidentally injuring yourself.
Your only concern is your family’s safety.
You swirl around to face Gaston with an expression of rage clear on your face.
He immediately ignores it, of course.
“I command that you let my family go,” you say angrily as you stare into his cold eyes.
“They've done nothing wrong. Why must you do this to us we've done nothing wrong to you or anyone else. My sister has cared for you for all this time, and you treat her like this? Have you no compassion?”
He lets out an airy chuckle, one that makes you uncomfortable. Of course, he does; he's never taken a woman seriously a day in his life and why would he start now.
His uncaring attitude earns chuckles from a few of the villagers behind you, but you don't pay attention to them. “Why would I listen to a woman like you or your sister?” He grins at you, it’s the kind to send a shiver down your spine, dare you say it appears to be a sinister smirk.
The more he talks the more it annoys you and feeds into your anger, but you stop and think, realizing you can't let this anger get the best of you because if you do, you may lose your family forever, and you will not let it happen.
“Why is it that you’ve locked up my family?” You ask him, thinking it’d be best to ask him straightforwardly instead of waiting for when he’ll throw you into the wagon, leaving you to rot with your family.
You can’t let this happen; you have to return to the one… you hold dear to you. Your heart aches, you have much more to lose than just your family here. Again, he chuckles, now it’s not nearly as evil as the first one and yet it still sends a shiver down your spine.
“You know,” he starts off, “your father- he- uh- he seems to have lost his mind. Why you ask? Well,” he pauses clearly trying to come up with a lie for the villagers to believe.
As much as you hate to admit it, the villagers would probably believe anything he says because he's a war hero, meaning they respect him too much to disagree.
Or maybe because they fear for their safety and their lives since they know what he’s capable of.
“You see,” he begins again. “Mike has begun to say some strange things which raises alarm about his mind.” He fakes sympathy when he says, “we fear for the safety of you and your family.”
You know he's lying, but how can you prove it when none of the villagers have ever liked you?
Is that why he’s saying these things because he knows none of them will believe you if you try to tell the truth?
Why would they believe you when you say it is Gaston who has lost his mind and not your papa?
You gulp down whatever saliva has built up in your mouth, your hands are sweaty, leaving marks on the mirror as you tighten your grip. “Why- why do you think my father has lost his mind?” You weakly ask, having a feeling about what he's going to say.
“Well, it’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?” Gaston starts with a knowing tone and a supercilious stance.
You hate it.
He slaps his hand on the wagon door, alarming your family.
They all look up through the tiny window to see you there with no wounds and not looking as if death is waiting for you (as few have thought a few times since you’ve been gone).
Their concerning expressions slowly diminish at the site of you and soon their brows furrow, you know it's because of the way you're dressed and the fact that you're not dead because of some beast that your father had seen.
They slowly begin to believe him more now.
You immediately rushed towards the wagon; your hands touched the wood door as if you were trying to touch your family members themselves.
You wonder if it would be wise to try and break the lock now but know that if you do then something bad will happen. And you don’t know if the villagers will try to remove you from them or if Gaston will order something else to occur; the thought of any of it happening scares you.
‘Maybe,’ you think. ‘Maybe it would be wise to “listen” to what he has to say and play along with his games until it’s over.’
You lean in whispering, “I will get you out of here, you will be free, and we will be together, but I need you to trust me. Can you do that?”
Tom and Rick glance at one another, they have some idea as to what you may ask of them, but it still raises alarms in their heads.
Maybe it would have been best for you to not ask them for help but what else can you do in this dire situation?
You turned to see your sister’s nod knowing that they’ll follow orders to get out and regain their freedom.
Poor Penny is crying along with Charlotte but the second oldest of the two is more heartbroken than any of you... which, of course, makes sense since she believed that she was in love with Gaston, and he returned those feelings. It pains her to think that he used her.
As much as she wishes to weep, she knows she cannot at this time.
She pushes all her thoughts about him aside, knowing that she needs to be focused so she can listen to what you have to say and help the rest of them get out.
For once, neither of your brothers nor your Papa say anything as you whisper to them a foolproof plan.
The man who can eat far too many eggs (for your comfort), pulls you back and away from your family, you jerk your arm within his grasp trying to get away from him.
As you struggle to remove yourself from him, he manages to grab the one thing that you brought with you from the castle.
When you see what he has in his hands, you gasp.
He’s going to figure out how to use it and show everyone the beast Nick.
You can’t let it happen, they can’t see him; if they do, they’re only going to want to hurt him, and you won’t- you don’t know if you’d survive that. You reach for it only for the irksome man to raise his arm, keeping it away from being within your reach.
“Give it back to me, Gaston. It’s not yours.”
“It doesn’t look like it’s yours either.”
“It is- give it back.”
“No.” He lowers his hand, inspecting it himself. “How do you use it?”
“I’m not going to tell you that.”
“It’ll save you and your family.”
“No.”
“You don’t care about their safety? Some daughter slash sister, you are.”
You groan, reaching for it again. “I need it. Give it to me.”
The same smirk he gave you hasn’t left his face once since you arrived, it only became worse as time went on, just like now. “Show me the beast.”
An image of the sad beast pops up.
“Look,” he spins it around, showing the others.
“Look at his fangs. Those horns. His claws. He will kill us all if we don’t do something about it first.”
“NO!” You cry out.
“Kill the beast!”
“Stop it!”
Gaston grabs your arm. “Le Fou, open the door.”
He does as the larger man tells him to.
“Stop- don’t listen- please,” you struggle to fight his grasp. “Let me go! You’re making a mistake. He is kind and- and he has a family. He wouldn’t harm any of you unless provoked.”
The man scoffs, “you’ve fallen for such a hideous beast. Have you no shame.” He snickers, glancing over at your sisters. “Good thing I didn’t bring myself down to your level and marry one of your sisters. I would die if I was intertwined with such nonsense.”
-
As soon as you're tossed inside, the door closes, you slam your hands onto the door, not caring about getting a splinter. “Let me out! Let me out! He’s not the beast you think he is!”
“Belle.” “Belle.” Your family calls out for you, pulling you away from the door.
“I think there are a few other things we need to worry about.” Mike holds you in his arms. “Breath, sweetheart. I need you to take deep breaths so we can help you. We can’t understand you, if all you do is scream and plead.”
“He is not who you think he is. He is a kind man who had been upset for a long time and if I don’t get back, they’ll- they’ll-” You wipe away your tears and reach into the corset of your dress, pulling out a small rod. “Use this to pick the lock.”
He gives you an impressive look. “I knew I taught you well.”
“Hurry up,” your brothers say to him.
He shrugs them off and continues to pick at the lock.
Once it clicks open, it falls to the ground.
He pushes the door open, purposefully bumping into the man that Gaston assigned to stand guard.
Your brothers push themselves out and grab the man, forcing him inside.
“Grab the lock,” Tom tells Charlotte.
She grabs it and quickly clicks it into place.
“Not all of us are going to be able to get to the castle on your horse,” says Rick.
“Not all of us have to go.”
“But-”
Numerous neighs disrupt your minor argument.
“Looks like we won’t need to worry,” Penny comments. “Come on.”
“No,” Mike pushes you towards your horse. “You go. We’ll be right behind you.”
“What?”
“I can see it, you know.”
“See what?”
“Your eyes, she had those eyes from the moment we meant up until the very end. You’ve found love within him. You can save him, but you must be quick.”
You crack the reins and take off.
-
“Please take care of him,” you hear as you pass through the entrance.
You know its late wife calling out to you.
There’s no other reason for her to be doing this, if she didn’t want her family to be happy and the least you could do is respect her wishes.
“I promise,” you whisper.
-
You arrive at the sound of angry shouts and echoing gunshots.
You look up and find it’s the beast Nick to be the target. “No,” you mumble and run up the stairs.
The cries of a young boy follow behind you, you turn to find the young prince flying, catching him before anything bad could happen to him. “Bradley. What were you doing?”
“I’m defending my home.”
“You can’t be doing things as dangerous as that. What would-”
Another echo.
Your head snaps in the direction of the forbidden west wing. You tighten your grip on the boy and run. “Gaston! Stop this!”
Nick’s head snaps in your direction, he whispers your name before pushing himself back to jump in your direction.
He grabs one of your hands, being careful not to do anything too fast to harm his son. “You returned,” he mumbles, face full of shock and awe.
You nod. “I did.”
He grunts, falling to his knees.
Your head turns to see the smug smirk hanging from his lips.
“Stop,” You place Bradley on the ground before putting yourself between the hunter and Nick.
“What are you doing?”
“I will not let you die at the hands of this man.”
Gaston throws his head back and lets out a hearty, belly aching laugh. “You’re protecting this- this beast but not those of your kind?”
“He has been kinder than you ever have!”
“I doubt that. Now, move out of the way and let me kill my latest prey so I can-” the bridge beneath him begins to crack but he pays no attention to it. “Finish him off and hang his head on my wall.”
Just as his finger touches the trigger, the bridge gives out beneath him; he couldn’t run away if he tried to.
Your eyes widen, not looking down too frightened to see him lay dead on the ground.
Although his personality was brutish and vile, it is still a human being that died today.
You spin around, checking on him.
“You're bleeding too much. We must get you medical attention.”
“I don’t- it’s time.”
“No,” you shake your head, in denial. “We can get you help and-”
He grabs your hand. “I don’t have much time now. I can feel myself slipping away.”
“N- no, you don’t- you don’t feel it. Don’t say that. What about- oh, Bradley,” you lift the teacup carefully before placing him on Nick’s abdomen.
“Bradley.”
“What about the curse?”
“It’s too,” he closes his eyes, letting out a deep and slow exhale. “We’re out of time.”
“But she can-”
“No.”
-
Sam walks up the stairs, not giving anyone a second glance.
He knows exactly where to go and what’s happened between the two of you, but his curse is in place and it’s up to you now to break it.
-
The ground shakes violently as the last petal falls.
More than half the staff have become a stiffened furniture version of who they used to be, Pete, Marcus, and Leonard were the last ones.
Leonard waves one last time before rocking side to side as he takes his final form.
Pete turns to Marcus, prepared to make a final speech but can’t find it in him to do so.
“Until we meet again,” he whispers, to the antique clock.
-
Nick and you begin sobbing as Bradley’s face is wiped away and he looks like a real, non-living teacup.
“Please don’t leave me,” you whisper, holding his cheek, wiping away his tears.
“Could you- could you ever find it in you to love a beast like me?”
You sniffle, “I can’t.”
“I... see.”
The life drains from his eyes after hearing those words.
You gasp, covering your mouth.
The last words he will ever hear from you are a lie.
“I already do,” you whisper as tears trickle down your cheeks, landing on one of the few blood stains of his shirt.
You continue to weep onto him until your family arrives and pulls you away. You lean onto your father and wet his shoulder with your love and grief-stricken tears.
You can’t help but think, had Gaston moved his arm a few inches to the left, he would have killed Nick instantly, forbidding you from having those last few seconds with him.
A gasp is all that enters your ears before your sisters tug on the sleeves of your dress.
“Stop tugging on-” Tom stops talking at the interesting sight.
“Tom, what- holy sh-” Rick stops when he sees what his siblings see.
“Belle,” it whispers.
“No,” you shake your head.
“The curse is fooling me,” you mutter.
“Darling, you need to look up.”
You open your eyes, glancing at your father.
He gestures for you to turn towards where the love of your life lays, dead.
You do as everyone wants you to and your jaw drops. “No.”
“It’s me.”
“No.” He whispers your name. “You’re not real.” He takes a step forward, his hand cupping your cheek.
“You saved me.”
“No- I- I didn’t.”
“You did. You saved us.”
A light tug on the skirt of your dress alerts you. You look down and find a young boy standing there. Your eyes water as you bend down, standing on your knees. “Bradley?”
He nods, a nervous smile gracing his lips. “Oh my- you- your both-” He can’t hold himself back and launches himself into your arms.
You gasp and let out an airy chuckle as you squeeze the boy.
The king kneels on one knee beside you two, petting the back of his son's head. His eyes focused on nothing but the two of you.
You lean over and let yourself fall into his embrace with Bradley since he won’t let go. “You’re here.”
“I am,” he mumbles into your hair. “We need to get up though. I need to see if everyone is all right.”
Tom and Rick help you get up, giving Bradley the ability to maneuver himself tighter onto you.
-
You all walk downstairs to see everyone hugging. “What happened?”
“The warlock who cursed us, erased us from the villagers' minds.”
“Oh.”
“Shouldn’t he be clinging to you instead of me?”
The man only grins in return. “He likes you.”
You narrow your eyes to him. “Don’t make him sound like a dog.”
A fake beast-like growl comes from his chest. “I’m not. I’d never do that to my boy.”
“Okay.”
-
He searches for someone in the crowd in front of the castle.
“Goose!”
“Mav!”
The two men run towards one another, hugging each other tightly.
Rick leans down to whisper, “shouldn’t he be embracing you like that?”
“I have Bradley to make up for it.”
“But-”
“Quiet, Rick.”
Your brother raises his arms, backing away.
They release one another and Pete walks closer towards you two. “I knew it.”
“Knew what?”
“I knew it would be you who would break the curse and get the scary beast to become a fluff ball again.”
“Ah.”
“No more talking.” Nick pushes himself between you two. “We have a celebration to plan.”
“We do?” You ask.
“Yep.”
“Like what?”
“The reunion of our people, a potential courtship, and the celebration of Bradley’s birthday.”
“What was that?”
“What was what?”
“What you just said there, you know the thing about a potential courtship?”
“Oh,” he lets out a soft chuckle, “you mean that thing? That’s a- that’s nothing,” he quickly adds trying to brush it off.
“It’s not nothing if you felt the need to mention it,” you point out.
The surprised look on his face lets you know he's been caught.
The snickers from your brothers, Pete and Leonard around you don’t help him either.
“I liked it better when you didn’t talk,” Nick tells him.
“We all know you’re lying. And you’ve missed my voice,” Leonard teases him.
Marcus shakes his head.
Part of him feels as though he shouldn’t have mentioned it now, like maybe Nick should have waited but the other part of him was just too excited to hold it in any longer.
He hasn’t felt this way in a long time and he’s going to bask in every moment for as long as he can which is probably why he quickly added the word, potential.
He glances down at you once more and the look on your face tells him otherwise.
Dare he say, you’re happy at the thought of being in a courtship with him? If not that, then he’s putting too much thought into it but, he knows you.
He can’t hold back any longer and takes a step forward, cupping your cheek before leaning in to place a gentle kiss on your lips, slowly deepening until he pulls away for air.
For you, it was more than enough in that moment… until your siblings let out fake gagging noises behind you.
Everyone takes their time returning to the village, wanting to use every moment to rekindle and rebuild relationships that have… been on hold.
The last few to take their leave is your family, only after giving you long hugs, muttering kind remarks while your second oldest brother makes jokes.
-
You turn to the side and find familiar faces.
Sam and Carole watch all of you with happy smiles on their faces.
The warlock guides the woman closer to the forest before they disappear.
To this day, you still don’t know if what you saw was real or not.
-
A few months later you and Nick are engaged, the weddings coming up faster than you realize.
Bradley runs around the hallways with Chip, their laughter bringing a sense of peace for you and your fiancé.
“Hello,” he says, reaching for your hand as he kisses your knuckles.
“It’s never going away, is it?”
He chuckles. “I happen to find that to be very rude you know. I’ve been working on this for a long time,” he pets his mustache.
“I know,” you nod. “It was there the same time I was here, maybe longer.”
“And it's here to stay.” He pauses, his lips tugging upwards into a playful smirk. “How would you feel about Bradley having one when he’s older?”
“Did that curse take away your brain too?”
He scoffs, “I’m serious.”
“So am I.” You sigh, “I don’t think he’ll follow in your footsteps.”
The boys come rushing up the stairs, coming to a halt before they could run into either of you.
“Mama, look.”
Your left eye twitches. “Oh, how fun. Please make sure your mustaches are off before dinner.”
They nod and take off.
You turn to him, narrowing your eyes at his pathetic excuse of hiding his amusement. “You are evil.”
“I am not. He got that idea all on his own.”
“He is your son.” You turn and walk away, feeling that enough was said and he would understand.
“I thought he was ours?”
“Until that mustache is off, you’re claiming him.”
He grumbles under his breath, whispering his sons name. “Bradley. Bradley.”
A few months later you and Nick are officially married and during the big dance, Pete and Penny announce their courtship (which was no surprise) before the night was over.
Tom found himself a nice young woman, Sarah, who is his current business partners sister.
They settle down in town so they’re close to family and for him to be able to continue with his business.
Rick met a nice young woman, Antoinette while he went to the neighboring village to get a new saddle for his horse, Wood (gifted to him by your husband).
Charlotte wants to go off and live the life your mother couldn’t, travel and share her art skills with the world, not quite ready to settle down yet…  until a year later when she returned home engaged to a man named Adam.
By that time, you had your first daughter, Sydney-Carole (named after your mother and Bradley’s). He was so happy to hold his little sister, always careful and sitting somewhere since he was still a small child.
Pete and Penny married shortly after your second daughter; Aline was born.
Tom and Sarah moved a few towns away when she became pregnant with their second child.
Right around that time, Rick and Antoinette decided it was time to go to back to her hometown when she got word of her sick father.
Charlotte and Adam stay in the same house as your father, helping him and selling her art until he passes.
By the time Bradley and Chip were thirteen, Sydney-Carole becoming an energetic eight-year-old, and Aline barely turning five; it was a big surprise when you found out you were pregnant again, this time birthing a boy, Phillipe.
Nick was happy to hear that there was finally gonna be another Bradshaw boy in family.
Bradley was happy that he would be able to have someone he could pass off his “wisdom” too (a thought he got from his father).
-
As you watch the kids run around in the garden, you can’t help but wonder how different things could have been had you not asked for that rose and realize, you wouldn’t trade anything in the world to not be where you are now.
Nick exits the back and stands beside you, enjoying the sight of all the children playing together while you bask in the peace of knowing that this is what your papa would have wanted.
All his grown children still having monthly dinners so that parents could bond and chat while the children play.

Tumblr media
You adjusted your dress carefully, checking your appearance in the mirror. The cups of your dress were tighter than normal, but the rest of the dress was flowy and hid your figure well enough. Someone would have to really be scrutinizing your abdomen to find a sign of your little bump among the patterned fabric.
Getting into a secret relationship with your brother’s best friend was definitely not the best idea that you ever had in your life. And neither was getting accidentally pregnant with his baby before you even told your brother Maverick that you were together in the first place.
But in your defense, if Maverick wanted keep you two apart, he should have stopped leaving you two alone together while he chased after whoever caught his eye. Goose and you spent a lot of time together over the years because of Maverick’s horndog tendencies and you weren’t going to apologize for that.
And, well, Goose was a good man. He was sweet to you. He bought you flowers for your birthday even before you ever dated. He always supported you and never spoke over you or made you feel like you weren’t important. He sent you love letters that made you swoon even though he knew that you couldn’t do the same for him for fear of Maverick finding them.
You loved him. And he loved you. And that was all that mattered.
You took a deep breath and tried to calm yourself down. It wouldn’t do you or anyone else any good if you showed up stressed. Maverick would get suspicious and hover around you and then you wouldn’t be able to tell Goose the news. And you needed to tell him. Soon. Before your bump was actually noticeable and everyone found out.
You just hit seventeen weeks and your bump was growing every day. You managed to hide it from everyone for now, but soon, it wasn’t going to be possible. So, you really needed to tell Goose. Tonight. Immediately. You were lucky enough that he got called home when he did, instead of in another seven months like originally planned.
So, you had to tell Goose about the little gosling. Tonight.
“What do you think, huh?” you asked, running a hand down your bump. “I’m just freaking out over nothing, aren’t I?” You rubbed your hand up and down your bump and sighed, placing your hands on your hips. “You know, one of these days, you’re going to have to kick for me.”
But not today, apparently.
Smiling softly, you grabbed your purse and keys and headed out to Goose’s car—his blue 1972 Ford Bronco. Goose called the car ‘his baby’ and left you specific instructions on how to take care of it while he was away. Ironically, Goose’s actual baby was more than likely conceived in the backseat.
Frantic goodbye sex minus a condom because Goose never restocked his stash plus your now very ironic ‘just pull out, we’ll be fine’ comment equaled one little gosling.
And you hadn’t told Goose. You were worried about his reaction—mostly about the high possibility that he would open the letter in front of Maverick, your brother, pass out from the new information, Maverick would read the letter, and it would all blow up from there. And, well, if Maverick was going to freak out, then Goose didn’t deserve to go through that alone.
Not if you could help it, anyway.
Pulling up to base, you showed the guard your ID and signed in before you were directed to the proper parking lot. Adjusting the straps of your dress, you made your way over to the airstrip. On your way over, however, you were surprised to see Cougar’s wife Eileen and her son.
“Eileen?” you called, causing her to turn around. “Cougar’s coming home too?”
“Yes, he is,” Eileen replied, adjusting her hold on her son. “I just got the message last night. Maverick and Goose are coming home as well?”
“Yeah, I got a message last night too,” you explained, trying to not stare at the baby boy.
You were the second-grade teacher at the on-base elementary school, so you had spent quite a lot of time around children. But there was just something about finding out that you were expecting one of your own that made your eyes latch onto any baby within a ten-meter radius of you.
“Where’s Kathy then?” you added, referring to Merlin’s wife.
“I called her last night and she said that she never got any message. Merlin isn’t coming home.”
“That’s strange,” you trailed off, trying to not assume the worst. You quickly forced your usual teacher smile when dealing with a concerned parent and gestured to Eileen’s son. “But at least Cougar finally gets to meet this little cutie.”
“I know,” Eileen sighed, hugging her son closer. “He was so upset that he missed his birth.”
“That’s the Navy, unfortunately,” you mumbled, grimacing to yourself.
The thought of giving birth alone crossed your mind more than you would have liked to admit already. Goose and Maverick could be redeployed at the drop of a hat and sent to the complete opposite side of the world, leaving you all by yourself. You tried to not dwell on that fact, though. There were a lot of other steps that had to be taken first before you even got there.
“Come on, I’m sure that they’re just about to land,” you urged, redirecting the conversation.
You made your way over to the airstrip to see the three aviators already walking over. Cougar started sprinting as soon as he spotted his wife and son. You smiled and squeezed Eileen’s shoulder reassuringly before breaking away to greet your own boys. Maverick reached your first, but Goose was impatiently right on his tail.
“Ah, there you are,” Maverick jokingly called to you. “You weren’t going to make us walk home?”
“Not this time,” you mused, letting your brother pull you into a hug. “I missed you, Pete.”
“Missed you too, Sis.”
You released your brother, who instead stared over at the exchange between Cougar and Eileen. You quickly turned to Goose and fought the significant urge to leap into his arms and kiss him breathless. Instead, you stepped over and got up on your tiptoes to give him a proper hug.
“Hey, Goosie,” you stated, burying your face in his chest.
“Hey, honey,” he returned, resting his head on top your own.
Goose quickly wrapped his arms around your and pressed a discreet kiss to the top of your head. One that you knew meant that he was excited to see you and that he was barely holding onto his sanity at the fact that he couldn’t kiss your like he wanted to right then and there.
But you both knew that you just had to wait a little longer before you could reunite properly.
“What happened with Cougar?” you asked, reluctantly breaking away from Goose.
“He turned in his wings,” Goose replied bluntly, causing your eyes to widen.
“He did what?”
“He got all freaked out on one of our patrols,” Maverick supplied, turning to you. “He thought that he was going to die and never meet his son.”
“Poor man,” you sighed, shaking your head. You turned back to Maverick and Goose and straightened up, studying their gazes. “But why are the two of you home then?”
“We’re going to TOP GUN,” Maverick stated proudly, high-fiving Goose before turning back to you. “And you should come with us.”
“Really? You want me to come with you guys?” you asked, trying to not reach out to Goose.
“Yeah, unless you’re doing summer school,” Maverick replied, shrugging his shoulders.
“No, I’m not,” you replied, shaking your head a bit. Sharing an intensely longing look with Goose, you eventually turned back to Maverick. “I mean, if you don’t mind me coming along, I could.”
“I think that you should,” Goose all but blurted out immediately. “Come along, I mean.”
“Well, then I guess I should get packing,” you agreed, unable to help your wide smile.
As Maverick turned to start walking over to greet Cougar and his wife, Goose reached for your hand and gave it a quick squeeze. You grabbed his hand in return, wanting to openly show the world that you loved Goose and that he loved you.
“Tonight,” Goose whispered in your ear, causing you to sneak a quick peck to his cheek.
“Tonight,” you agreed quietly.
And, like clockwork, Maverick’s horndog tendencies gave the two of you some space to talk.
Goose threw open the door to your bedroom and kicked it closed with his heel. Carrying you over to your bed, Goose gently laid you down before crawling on top. You cupped Goose’s cheeks with your hands and wrapped your legs around his waist. You rolled your hips up to grind against his own, which caused Goose to tighten his hold on you.
“Did you miss me, Goosie?” you asked, running your hands down his back.
“Every day, honey. Every. Goddamn. Day,” Goose groaned, rolling his hips in time with your own.
He sat up and quickly removed his Hawaiian shirt. You helped him pull off his white undershirt before pulling him back down to your lips once more. Goose rolled you two over and reached for your zipper without ever taking his lips off of your own.
But when you felt your dress start to loosen, you pulled back. Goose dropped his hands immediately and stared up at you with concern.
“What is it, honey? What’s wrong?” Goose asked softly.
You pressed your lips together and rested your hand against Goose’s chest, feeling his heartbeat underneath your fingers.
“Before we go any further, there’s something that I need to tell you.”
You climbed off of Goose and sat up on your bed. Goose straightened up and turned to you with a worried expression. He reached for your hand and brought it up to his lips, earning a small smile in return from you.
“What is it? You can tell me, honey.”
“Do you remember the night before you shipped out?” you started off with, staring down at your lap.
“Very well,” Goose assured you, pressing a kiss to your cheek. “Why?”
“Well . . .”
You trailed off, trying to figure out how to deliver the news. You released Goose’s hand and slowly stood up. Reaching back, you finished pulling down the zipper of your dress. Turning back to Goose, you put up a brave face and pulled the straps of your dress down. You let the fabric pool around your feet and stepped out of it.
Goose stared up at you, clearly confused, before he spotted the now visible bump. You slowly cupped your small bump, which became infinitely more noticeable when you curved your back a bit and turned to the side. Goose’s breath left his body. His eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his skull and his lips parted in shock.
“Well, um, I got a souvenir from that night,” you quipped nervously, waiting for Goose’s reaction.
He blinked rapidly, glancing between your face and your small bump. You pursed your lips together anxiously, trying to remain calm. You reminded yourself that you just dropped a bomb on Goose. This was definitely a surprise for him, so you just needed to be patient.
“You’re pregnant?” Goose breathed out, staring up at you with wide eyes.
“Yeah, Goosie.”
Goose nodded slowly, still processing the information before he slowly got up from his spot. You watched him closely, worried that he was going to get up and leave. But then he carefully pulled you to his chest and gently tilted your chin up so that he could rest his forehead against your own.
“You’re pregnant?” he repeated, his tone softer than before.
“I’m pregnant,” you confirmed, causing Goose to nod.
“And you’re okay with that?” he asked you softly, searching your eyes for concern.
“Yeah, I’m okay, Goosie.”
“And everything’s healthy? With both of you?”
“Clean bills of health.”
“I’m going to be a dad?” he asked, his voice picking up a lighter tone.
“Yes, Goosie,” you mused, rubbing your noses together. “You’re going to be a dad.”
“Holy shit,” Goose breathed out, causing you to chuckle. “I’m going to be a dad.”
He quickly pressed a set of kisses all over your face, which made you giggle due to the tickle of his mustache. You tried to return the kisses, but he was too fast for you. Pulling you into a deep kiss that stole your breath away, Goose slowly rested his hand on the swell of your bump. He spread his fingers, feeling the curve on his own properly for the first time.
“Holy shit, I’m going to be a dad!” Goose exclaimed, causing you to frantically shush him.
“Goose, the neighbors!”
“I’m going to be a dad!” Goose yelled out instead.
“Nick,” you laughed, trying to get him to quiet down. “You’ll alert the whole town yelling like that. Including Mav.”
“Right, sorry,” Goose whispered back. “Holy shit, I’m going to be a dad.”
Goose pulled you in for another soft kiss before dropping down to his knees to kiss your small bump. Nuzzling against your skin, Goose pressed a series of kisses that brought happy tears to your eyes. You ran a hand through his hair as Goose whispered to your little gosling.
“Hey, I’m your dad,” Goose informed your bump, causing you to smile. “I’m sorry that I was away for a bit, but I’m here now and I can’t wait to meet you in . . .”
“About five months,” you supplied for Goose.
“About five months,” he echoed back to your bump.
Goose pressed another kiss to your bump before standing up and gathering you in his arms again. But just as you started to return his loving kiss, Goose pulled back with a sudden realization.
“Wait right here.”
“What? Goose, what are you—”
You didn’t even get to finish your question before Goose bolted out of the room. Sighing to yourself, you shook your head. Running a hand down your bump, you managed a small smile when you heard Goose cursing at himself as he rummaged through his drawers.
“Your dad’s a bit of a nutcase,” you informed your baby, shaking your head. “But we like our nutcase.”
Goose nearly tripped as he ran back into your bedroom. You were about to ask him what the fuss was all about when he dramatically dropped onto one knee and held up a small box. And this time, it was your turn to comedically widen your eyes and drop your mouth open.
“Nick . . . are you serious?” you asked him softly, holding a hand to your chest.
“Of course, I’m serious,” Goose replied, popping open the case.
“How long have you had the ring?”
“About a year.”
“Nick, we’ve only been dating for a year,” you pointed out, like he was the crazy one.
“I know, honey,” Goose replied, causing your eyes to widen again.
“Holy shit.”
Goose laughed and held up the ring for you to see it. The ring was simple with a gold band and a circular diamond in the center. It wasn’t that large and Goose knew that some of the men who routinely flirted with you on base could probably afford a bigger and grander ring. But you didn’t seem to mind when you held your hands to your mouth, happy tears in your eyes.
“Will you marry me and make me the happiest guy in the whole world?” Goose asked, smiling softly.
“Of course, I’ll marry you, Goose,” you gushed, urging him to his feet.
You pulled him in for an emotional kiss and Goose managed to somehow slide the ring onto your finger despite the distraction. After you broke away from the kiss, you rested your head against his chest and admired your new ring.
“It’s perfect, Goosie.”
“You’re perfect, honey,” Goose returned, causing you to shoot him a playful glare.
“You’re a sap, Nick Bradshaw.”
“But I’m your sap, honey.”
“And don’t you forget it,” you warned him jokingly.
You pulled him down for another kiss, running your hands through his short hair. Goose trailed his hands up and down your sides, mapping out every inch of your subtle curve where your baby was growing. Your baby. A little human that you made together.
Holy shit you were going to be parents.
You shared soft kiss and caresses for a few moments, communicating all of the love that you shared for each other. But then you both remembered that you hadn’t seen each other in months and hell, you were both running high on adrenaline. Pulling away from the kiss, you rested your hands on Goose’s chest and tilted your chin up.
“Make love to me, Goosie,” you whispered against his lips.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied, grinning as he pressed another kiss to your lips.
Goose gently lowering you back onto your bed. He stood up, shoved his pants down, and hurried back to you. Carefully hovering over you, mindful of your little bump, Goose trailed kissed down your face and down to your chest. Nuzzling the sensitive valley between your breasts and pressing a kiss to the top of both of them, Goose paused for a moment.
“I’ll be back for you two soon,” he stated, referring to your breasts.
“Goosie, stop personifying my breasts!”
“I don’t think they mind it, honey!”
Despite your playful scoff, Goose went back to task and trailed kisses down your stomach. Kissing over your small baby bump, Goose paused again and sat up a bit.
“Gosling, I’m going to need you to close your eyes and plug your ears for a bit. It’s nothing personal, but I just think that you’re a little young to—”
“—Goose!”
“What?” he laughed, causing you to shake your head at him and buck your hips. “Don’t worry, honey, I’m getting there. Be patient with me.” He grabbed the waistband of your underwear and shot you the smile that got you into this whole mess in the first place. “Now, you just sit back, relax, and enjoy the moment, sweetheart.”
After becoming very well acquainted with each other again, you snuggled up together on your bed.
“When did you want to get married?” Goose asked you softly, wrapping an arm around your bump.
“Well, we should tell Pete about what’s going on before we sign the papers,” you mumbled, rubbing a pattern into Goose’s chest. You sighed, snuggling further into Goose’s side. “I just hope that he doesn’t freak out about it.”
“You’ll be fine,” Goose replied, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Me, on the other hand, he might strangle with his bare hands.”
“No, he won’t,” you told Goose. “He loves you like a brother. He’d never hurt you like that.”
“But he’s your actual brother,” Goose pointed out. “And he’s hated all of your boyfriends.”
“None of them hold a candle to you, Goosie,” you told him honestly.
“I know that you’re just telling me that to make me feel better, but it’s actually working,” Goose stated, causing you to laugh softly.
“I’m serious,” you assured him, pressing a kiss to his chest. “I love you, Goosie. Like I’ve never loved another man before. He’ll see that.”
“I love you too,” Goose returned softly, rubbing his fingers over your bump. “You and our little gosling . . . there’s nothing else that I care more about in the whole world.”
You hummed contentedly and snuggled further into Goose’s touch. Goose leaned down and pulled the thin blanket over your bodies as you slowly started to drift off to sleep. He pressed a kiss to your forehead, your nose, and then finally your lips.
“Goodnight, honey.”
“Goodnight, Goosie.”
Your breathing evened out and you quickly fell asleep against Goose’s chest like you always did after your reunions. Goose kept a careful hold on you, making sure that you stayed warm and secure. Rubbing your back and your bump, Goose couldn’t help but let his mind wander as the afterglow of your reunion faded and reality started to set back in.
You were pregnant with his baby. And that changed everything.
Hell, you needed to get married. Quickly. And before you got married, you really should tell Maverick about the whole situation. And then deal with the fallout of that because even if Goose and Maverick were like brothers, Maverick was still an overprotective older brother when it came to you.
And Goose wasn’t just dating you. He knocked you up. And he was marrying you.
Maverick was going to put his head on a pike when he found out.
And, then, of course, there was the whole issue of money and a house and everything else that went into having a baby. The benefits would be good and he wouldn’t have to worry about healthcare for you, but hell, he needed to buy a house. Not just a cheap rundown one, like the one that you all shared now. But a real one.
With a fenced in backyard so that the gosling could run around. And with an actual driveway so that the gosling could learn how to ride his or her bike without worrying about someone hitting them with a car. And without a rickety staircase out front that would definitely give them a splinter. One that didn’t have too many projects in case he got sent out soon after the baby was born.
Hell, would he even get to be there when the baby was born? Cougar didn’t.
Goose paused in his worrying when he felt pressure against his hand. Confused, he looked over at you to see you still asleep. Pulling back the covers a bit, Goose sucked in a breath when he realized that the pressure against his hand was coming from your bump. From your little gosling.
The baby was kicking. Your baby was kicking.
Goose pressed against the kick gently, just to tell the gosling that he was there and grinned when the pressure returned. Resting his head on top of your own, Goose pressed a kiss to your forehead as he cupped your small bump again.
He knew that he had to figure things out. He had a lot of things to figure out. But for right now, he just wanted to hold you and your baby.
And so, he did.

I’m Here, Honey
nick “goose” bradshaw x reader
summary: after not hearing from you in a couple weeks, Goose stops by to check on you.
warnings: just fluff
wc: 430
a/n: I freaking love Goose yet his fics are always the shortest 😅
Tumblr media
You’re laying on your couch with your arms wrapped around a pillow. It’s been a tough few weeks.
There’s a knock at your door, and your door opens.
“Y/n?” You hear Goose call out.
You want to say something, but your throat tightens. Goose finds you quickly.
“Hey,” he says softly, squatting down beside the couch. He pets your hair. “What’s going on? I haven’t seen or heard from you in weeks.”
“Goose,” you whisper.
“I’m here, honey, I’m here.”
“I just feel sad. I feel like we shouldn’t be together, like you deserve more,” you say, with tears rolling down your cheeks.
“Y/n,” Goose says softly. “Come here,” he says, helping you up from the couch.
He wraps you up in his arms and kisses the top of your head.
“Why didn’t you say something?” he whispers in your ear.
“I didn’t want to bother you, not with graduation so close.”
“Honey,” Goose says, gently lifting your chin. “It doesn’t matter, you matter more to me.”
“Goose, you can’t blow this.”
“Iceman is two points ahead of us, and I don’t see us catching up,” Goose sighs.
“Goose,” you whisper.
He brushes some hair out of your face. “I’m sorry, this is about you.”
You pause a moment before you reach up to kiss him. He pulls you closer to him and deepens the kiss.
You break the kiss and bury your face in his neck. Goose rubs your back, not saying anything.
“Thank you,” you whisper into his neck.
“Of course, honey,” Goose says, kissing your temple.
“Can you stay with me?”
“Yes, of course.”
You take Goose’s hand and lead him to your room.
“Get comfy,” you tell him as you walk into your closet to get some pajamas. Goose smiles softly as you walk away.
You come back out to see Goose in his boxers lounging on the bed.
You can’t help the giggle that escapes you.
“You told me to get comfy,” he tells you.
“I know,” you say, walking over to the bed. “It’s just… good to have you here. I’m sorry I haven’t reached out.”
“No, I’m sorry, I should’ve come here sooner,” Goose says, wrapping you in his arms.
“But you’re here now, Goose.”
“Yes, I am. And I’m not planning on leaving, so you’re stuck with me.”
You place gentle kisses on his chest, closing your eyes.
“I’m okay with being stuck with you,” you say with a smile.
Goose laughs as he plays with your hair. “Good to know. I love you, y/n.”
“I love you, Goose.”

Tumblr media
The light from your tv illuminated the living room, straining your already tired eyes. Every noise snapped your attention to the phone on the side table, anxiety halting your every breath as you desperately tried to relax on the couch.
Nick was supposed to call…it was Thanksgiving after all…but as the time approached 10 pm you began to believe that call may never come.
Carrying around the burden of missing him was hard, and each day that passed without a word allowed doubt to creep a little deeper into your heart.
By the time the phone actually rang, the sound of the crowd cheering on Oprah combined with your exhaustion made you think you were hallucinating. By the fifth ring, you were scrambling to answer, heart pounding as you pressed the phone to your ear.
“Hey,” his voice came through, crackling slightly, but unmistakably him.
A wave of relief washed over you, but it was quickly replaced with frustration and hurt.
“I was beginning to think I'd never hear from you,” you chuckled slightly, trying to bring your heart rate down.
“I know it’s been a while,” he sighed. “They’re working us pretty hard out here.”
“I know.” You gripped the receiver tightly, your  knuckles whitening as you forced a smile he couldn’t see. “I just… Happy Thanksgiving, Nick.”
There was a pause, the silence hanging between you, heavy and sharp, and for a moment, you thought the line had dropped. But then he spoke again, his voice softer, a little remorseful. “Shit… Happy Thanksgiving, sweetheart.”
You swallowed, willing yourself to keep your tone steady. “I’m sorry I couldn’t call earlier,” he continued, his voice dipping low, almost apologetic. “It’s hard to keep track—”
“Yeah,” you cut him off, nodding as if he could see. You leaned your elbows on the arm of the couch, the sounds of laughter from Oprah’s show filling the silence he left.
There was another pause, longer this time, before Nick tried to break the tension with a small laugh. “So… what are you thankful for?”
Your throat tightened at his question, grip on the phone going slack for a moment. What were you thankful for? The question felt like a cruel joke, bringing up everything you’d been bottling up, every dark thought you tried to push away each lonely night.
“What am I thankful for?” you repeated, your voice low, trembling as you forced a laugh. “I don’t know, Nick. I guess I’m thankful for… days that feel a little less empty than others. For distractions. For work. Things that keep me from noticing just how alone I am.”
You could picture him on the other end, taking in your words, and for a moment you wanted nothing more than for him to break down the distance, to say something that would pull you back from the edge.
The silence that followed was sharper, and you could almost picture his face on the other end, the guilt in his eyes. But he didn’t say anything, didn’t reach across the distance between them to reassure you, to tell you it was all going to be okay.
“Y/n…” he finally said, his voice softer, pained. “I know this is hard. But I’m doing my best. You know I’d be there if I could. You know that, right?”
Your throat tightened, the anger simmering just beneath the surface, impossible to contain. “Do I?” you whispered, your voice shaking. “Because sometimes it feels like you’re out there living this whole other life — a life that I’m not a part of. You say you’re thinking about me, but it’s just… words, Nick. Words don’t keep me warm at night. They don’t make up for the fact that you’re not here.”
“I’m trying, Y/n,” he replied, his voice breaking slightly. “You think it’s easy for me? I’m out here, day after day, thinking about you, wanting to come home, and—”
“Then why does it feel like you’re slipping away?” you interrupted, your voice barely above a whisper. “Why does it feel like… like I’m holding on to something that doesn’t even exist anymore?”
He sighed, the sound heavy, filled with a frustration that was as deep as hers. “I thought you understood what this life would mean for us,” he said, his tone sharper than you’d ever heard it before. “I thought you knew that I couldn’t just drop everything—”
“God, Nick, I know you can’t just drop everything,” you snapped, your voice raw, tears spilling over as you spoke. “I’m not asking you to be perfect. I just need to feel like I still matter to you. Like… like you’ll remember to fucking call me on Thanksgiving.”
He was silent, and the quiet that followed was more painful than anything he could have said. It felt like the final nail in the coffin of something they’d both clung to, something that had been slipping through their fingers, too fragile to hold onto.
“Maybe we’re asking too much of each other,” he said finally, his voice barely a whisper, and your heart shattered at the sound of it, at the resignation you could hear in his words.
Your voice broke as you tried to respond, your throat tight with the grief you’d been carrying alone for so long. “So… what? Are you saying we should give up?”
“I don’t know, Y/n,” he whispered, and you could hear the ache in his voice, the same ache you felt, stretching across the miles between you. “Maybe we both need to figure out what we really want.”
A sob slipped out, and you covered your mouth, trying to hold yourself together, but it was already too late. “Fine,” you whispered, your voice breaking. “Maybe we do.”
For a brief moment, you thought he might take it all back, that he might say something to bring you back from the edge. But then he just muttered softly, “Take care of yourself, okay? I love you.”
And then the line went dead.
You sat there in silence, clutching the phone to your chest, tears falling unchecked. The sounds of Oprah’s audience laughing and cheering on the TV echoed around you, filling the room with a painful reminder of a happiness that felt so far away.
As you sat alone in the dim glow of the television, the emptiness you had been feeling for months finally settled in.
The house was warm and full of life, Christmas lights twinkling from every corner, laughter and the smell of cookies filling the rooms. Y/n’s family had always gone all out for the holidays, and being around them brought you a comfort you hadn’t felt in a long time. You smiled, trying to savor the warmth and joy, but it only magnified the empty space in your chest where Nick’s absence had settled like a shadow.
You had tried to convince yourself you were moving on, that this was for the best, but every time you looked at the empty spot on the couch next to you, your heart ached. Your family had asked about him, asked why he wasn’t there, but you brushed it off with a smile, saying he was still deployed.
Then, amidst the hum of conversation and the soft strains of Christmas music, there was a knock at the door. You barely registered it at first, assuming it was one of your cousins arriving late. But your mother’s voice broke through, calling your name. “Y/n, honey, I think this one’s for you.”
Frowning, you made your way to the front door, your heart pounding before you even turned the handle, a faint, impossible hope sparking within you. And when you opened it, the world seemed to still.
There he was. Snow clung to his denim jacket and the ends of his hair, his cheeks flushed from the cold. His eyes found yours immediately, and the look on his face — raw, pleading, full of longing — broke your heart all over again.
“Nick,” you whispered, your voice barely carrying over the faint hum of Christmas carols from inside.
“I thought you’d be here” he smiled, his voice low and unsteady, “I went to your apartment, but you weren’t-”
“I came here,” you gestured inside the house, “whole family’s here this year…”
You could see the vulnerability in his eyes, the weight of everything he’d been carrying too. You hesitated, glancing back over your shoulder where your family laughed, oblivious to the storm raging inside your heart. With a quiet nod, you stepped outside, shutting the door behind you and wrapping your arms around yourself.
You stood there in silence for a moment, the snow falling softly around you, the quiet too heavy, filled with the things neither of you had said in a month.
“When did you get back?” You spoke up, eyes raking over his sleep-deprived face.
“Monday,” he hummed, the normalcy of the conversation somehow making you feel even worse about it all.
“I shouldn’t be here,” he started, voice barely above a whisper. “I know I shouldn’t just show up out of nowhere, not after everything… but I couldn’t let things end the way they did.”
Your throat tightened, every word tugging at your heart, filling you with an overwhelming mix of love and pain. “Nick…I didn’t think deployment was gonna be so hard for us…I didn’t think it’d make me feel like I mean’t nothing to you…” your voice broke on the last word.
He took a step closer, his hand reaching out before he dropped it, unsure. “You don’t know how much I hate myself for that, for leaving you with so many doubts. I was so focused on… on my duty, on being strong out there. I thought if I could just push through, I could come back and make it right. But I see now that I was wrong. I hurt you, and I never wanted that.”
You shook your head, hugging yourself tighter. “I love you, Nick. I never stopped. But… loving you hurts. Every time you go, every time you leave me behind, I have to live with this emptiness. And I don’t know if I can keep doing that.”
He swallowed hard, his gaze dropping, and you could see the pain in his eyes, the guilt he carried. “I don’t want to keep hurting you. But I also don’t know how to stop loving you, Y/n. I’ve tried… but you’re all I think about. You’re home to me. And I can’t imagine a life where you’re not part of it.”
Your chest tightened, the longing in his voice piercing straight through your defenses. “Nick, if we do this, I need you to be here for me. I need you to reach out, to make me feel like I’m not just waiting for someone who might never come back.”
“I can do that,” he said, stepping closer, his eyes locking onto yours. “I swear, I’ll be better. I’ll call, I’ll write — whatever it takes. I’ll never leave you in the dark again. Just… please. Give us another chance. I can’t lose you.”
You felt your heart breaking and mending all at once, his words both a balm and a fresh wound. Slowly, you reached out, your hand finding his, the warmth of his skin grounding you, and in that moment, you knew you couldn’t let go. No matter how much it hurt, your love for him was stronger. The ache would always be there, but so would he.
With a shaky breath, you nodded, feeling the last of your resistance fade. “Okay,” you whispered, your voice thick with emotion.
His face softened, a look of relief flooding his eyes as he took your hands in his, pulling your close, wrapping your in his arms. You let yourself sink into him, feeling the warmth of his embrace thaw the hurt you’d held onto, if only for this moment.
“Thank you,” he murmured into your hair. “Thank you, Y/n. I love you… so much.”
You stood there for a while, wrapped in each other’s arms, the snow falling softly around them as the pain began to melt away.
Finally, you pulled back, a small, hesitant smile tugging at your lips. “Come inside,” you said, your voice steadier now. “My family’s here, and… well, they’ve been asking about you.”
He nodded, smiling as he squeezed your hand, and together you stepped back into the warmth and light of the house. As you entered, your family looked up, and your mother’s face broke into a grin, welcoming Nick with open arms. You held onto his hand, feeling the warmth of his presence beside you, and for the first time in weeks, you felt whole.
It wasn’t going to be easy — you both knew that. But as you shared glances across the room, love shining in your eyes, you felt a spark of hope that maybe, just maybe, you could make it work, you could take care of each other.
