Gosto de chamar minha adolescência de “golden years” (anos de ouro), o que é completamente irônico, considerando que provavelmente foram os piores anos da minha vida. Eu era uma adolescente espinhenta, envergonhada e que não sabia lidar com o que parecia ser o pior cabelo cacheado do mundo. Mas, para escapar desse limbo patético que me definia, eu utilizava as “Besteiras de Adolescente”.

Besteira de adolescente era o que os adultos costumavam apontar e dizer: “Isso? Ah, isso é uma besteira de adolescente!”. Sempre acontecia quando um filme de Crepúsculo era lançado, um novo episódio de The Vampire Diaries ou Pretty Little Liars ia ao ar, ou quando uma revista Capricho chegava às bancas. De 2010 em diante, tanta coisa acontecia no mundo pop que era impossível não ter conteúdo para consumir. Miley Cyrus e Selena Gomez brigavam pelo Nick Jonas, a página “Eu Odeio Haters da Demi Lovato” tinha mais de 12 mil curtidas, e o One Direction acabara de lançar “Up All Night”, criando uma febre mundial e aumentando as vendas de intercâmbio para Londres. Álbuns de figurinhas do Rebelde Brasil eram comprados e nunca completados, e o Twitter era o reino dos fandoms, com suas bios, ícones, banners e headers (quanto tempo não escutava essas palavras) perfeitamente alinhados. Lorde apresentava Pure Heroine ao mundo, A Culpa é das Estrelas, Percy Jackson e Jogos Vorazes eram a trindade da leitura, e Taylor Swift come��ava a se destacar com seu novo álbum RED.

“Hey Brother”, do Avicii, e “Do I Wanna Know?”, do Arctic Monkeys, eram músicas obrigatórias em qualquer playlist. E só se viam dois estilos sendo usados: o grunge, com suas camisas de galáxia, saias prensadas e cropped preto, ou o swag, composto por um shorts jeans, Vans e um casaco xadrez amarrado na cintura. Um dia normal de uma adolescente consistia em assistir canais de youtubers em ascensão, pedir SDV no Instagram, criar templates no Tumblr, tentar recriar fotos de blogueiras e ler fanfics no Wattpad.

Y/N: Fiz um coque bagunçado e passei no Starbucks antes de ir para a aula. Ser adolescente era uma droga!

Eu me sentia como um constante saco de inseguranças ambulante. O que significa que, ao encontrar um clube de milhares de pessoas com interesses comuns, mesmo que muitas vezes distantes (famosos amigos online) era, no mínimo, um suspiro em meio a tanta pressão. Acredito que não existem palavras corretas para descrever como essa época foi marcante. Foi legal, bacana, emocionante, divertido e eletrizante; e o melhor de tudo, parecia eterno.

Mas, no dia 17 de outubro de 2024, um acontecimento nos lembrou que o nosso “eterno” chegou ao fim: o cantor e ex-integrante da boyband One Direction, Liam Payne, faleceu. E, com isso, uma geração de jovens adultas entrou em um luto coletivo pela perda de seu ídolo.

Enquanto navegava pelas minhas redes sociais, me deparei com uma legião de pessoas enfrentando a mesma confusão sentimental. Perguntas como “Por que estou tão triste?”, “Por que estou chorando tanto?”, “Por que dói e onde dói?” eram feitas.

As pessoas são rápidas em julgar a dor do outro, principalmente se não a compreendem. Não vou entrar no mérito do porquê essa dor deve ser respeitada; não é meu trabalho ensinar aos adultos que o luto não é algo exclusivo de familiares e que se manifesta de diferentes maneiras.

Para muito além da perda, me parecia que esse sentimento vinha atrelado a uma tomada de consciência coletiva da vida adulta. A verdade é que não percebemos quando nos tornamos adultos; simplesmente acontece. Aos poucos, aprendemos a comprar o alface correto, a marcar nossas próprias consultas médicas, a nos afastar de quem nos machuca e a mandar e-mails cobrando a equipe. Foi um processo natural; não precisamos fazer uma prova para ser adulto, nós simplesmente somos.

Então, quando, em uma quarta-feira típica da sua vida adulta, você é bombardeada pela notícia de que uma parte significativa da sua história partiu para sempre, a reação mais plausível é a melancolia. Não existe outra resposta correta para um tiro de nostalgia além dela.

Por isso, hoje eu digo: está tudo bem sentir essa perda. Só você sabe o quão doloroso foi marcar um encontro com sua versão de 14 anos para contar essa notícia.

I moved on to wattpad after that as well lolol but YouTube was the time man I think somewhere in the depths of it there’s still a YouTube fic of my own floating around ahahaha

1. What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for?

believe it or not. JONAS BROTHERS. more specifically Nick Jonas x Selena Gomez really. I discovered fanfic in the jonas fandom and would consume it on youtube. yes YOUTUBE. the ones i liked most were nick and selena and i wasn’t a fan of miley at the time so i was glad she wasn’t my bby nick’s girlfriend and always the mean girl in NickxSelena stuff lmao. So i wrote what i had read and then started writing with an OC. Never published much. that hasn’t changed. 

5. What is the perfect environment for you to write in?

this would be an imaginary setting because these things don’t often happen all together and mainly my perfect environment has to do with my personal state: inspired and wanting to write. 

Other than that: it has to be a good temperature, if i’m too hot – which is often – i tend to just get distracted. If i’m too cold i can just get a blanket and make it extra cosy which helps. I need something to drink around but not something to eat, or i’d have it and keep it far – eating distracts, keeps my hands busy from writing – and it’d be great if i have someone who i can vent and comment on what i’m writing basically on speed dial – aka they will reply relatively fast. Also with no one around to come peek over my shoulder at my computer. i hate that.

7. Which part of writing do you struggle with most? 

all of it haha. The actual writing. I second guess how every sentence i write sounds because i’ve read better things. Unless I have an idea for a setting and know how i wanna word a good chunk of it, just finding words that sound good and put together is very hard. I’m often inspired and i get ideas c o n s t a n t l y which can work against me. It’s when it comes to making the images in my head into words i have to share. it always feels like it comes subpar to what i imagined.

Nick and Miley

1. Why are we so shock that lovebug is about Miley Cyrus? I spent a lot time shipping Niley like reading fanfic and watching fanfic videos. There is a lot of theorize that a lot of Nick and Miley songs about love and heartbreak are about each other. 7 Things? Before the Storm? Wedding Bells? The fact Miley Cyrus dedicate a whole fucking album to him.

2. Isn’t kind of weird that Jonas Brothers, especially Nick talk a lot of Miley? In radio interviews, they get questions about her, but not the other way around. There were a couple of insta stories and maybe, a question here and there. I feel like every interview the Jonas Brothers or Nick does that she comes up in. I always thought her team was really good about what question to ask and don’t ask during interviews and that she has so much going in her life that she doesn’t need to talk about Jonas Brothers. To be fair, a lot of these questions are about her “controversies”. Cynically me thinks they talk about Miley, because it will create a little buzz around them, like articles written about and fan reactions

Oh my goodness this is so sweet of you, thank you. But yes we can definitely talk about this, I don’t mind at all, 2008 & 2009 was my shiT but yes chiLD sit let me tell you about my escapades jfc. Okay well I was most definitley Niley ( like ALL OUT ) and Jemi *coughs*still not over it*coughs* I was never really Nemi ‘cause I always favored Joe anyways ok but yes it was a RIDE and that whole clique of the jobros, miley, selena, demi & taylor was wILD & I swear I never missed a beat ( I literally went on my Mom’s work computer when I was hella little to confirm when Demi & Joe started dating *mind you i almost passed out from squealing* ) 

But yeah, Niley was my shit, does anyone remember on Youtube they had those like, crappy ‘Niley Story’s’ with like pic’s & monolauge & it was the crappiest form of fanfic ever but I was so into it? ( laMEO ALERT ) but legit I was- but anyways I was just so into Niley & was convinced they’d get married ( though couGH COUGH NICK DID WRITE WEDDING BELLS LIKE WTF ) that was wild but yeah oh my gosh. 2: Why do you write fanfiction?

i kinda tumbled into it by accident i think but it's just so comforting? like i know these characters already and i love them and it's just so fun to imagine all these different scenarios for them. fun fact: i started out with original stories and i'm quite proud of that (granted, everything i've written when i was like 12 is probably absolute shit but still) but then i started fanfic and that's so much easier of course. i do miss being able to think up something completely original though so hopefully i can get back to that eventually

13: First fandom you ever wrote for?

gonna expose myself here lol. i'm so old, i started reading fanfic on youtube (anyone here who still remembers the fanfic videos there??) without even being able to put a name on it. anyway it basically was like- nick jonas/demi lovato or miley cyrus or something? definitely straight lmao. and it was always like "i'm just gonna use their names" and basically, that's what i ended up doing too. using the disney squad to put a face to my characters lol. it all went downhill from there

22: Do you listen to anything while you write?

i sometimes do. but it's just a random ass playlist, like whatever i feel like at the moment. it never really has anything to do with what i write. i gotta say though, for prince simon, the scene on the balcony in chueca, when simon starts singing, i listened to spanish guitar music the whole time. bc that shit's magical

34: Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.

is anyone surprised i'm gonna go with a prince simon quote? well. this bit always wrecks me so. i'm very fond of it lol (there's also something in the next chapter that i'm really proud of but i'm not gonna post it here bc spoilers. but. hint: letters)

Saying goodbye was torture. When Wilhelm woke up that morning, it was nose to nose with Simon, whose eyes were already open, flickering across his face. “Abrázame,” he whispered, turning around to face the other way.

Wilhelm’s heart was pounding. He was going off context clues and what he himself wanted, when he gingerly wrapped his arms around Simon, pressing his nose into Simon’s neck.

A shuddering breath escaped Simon’s lips as he scooted that little bit closer to Wilhelm, and Wilhelm held him tighter.

They stayed like that until Simon murmured, “You need to catch a flight.” It sounded like it took all his willpower to say it.

“It’s a private jet, they can wait if the prince of Sweden wants to cuddle his…” Wilhelm faltered. Shit.

There was a beat of silence before Simon joked, “So scandalous of you. Don’t let the people find out.”

Wilhelm let out a small laugh and pressed a kiss to Simon’s neck because his skin was warm and soft and so enticing under his touch. “It’s time they found out,” he mumbled. (Promised.)

7: What element of writing do you struggle with most?

funnily enough, i think fluff is the hardest? like. idk i just struggle to figure out all the feelings to put into a scene like that and the urge to make it angsty is always there ahahah

and also, dialogue. which is why it means the world to me when someone tells me it feels so natural

6: What element of writing do you find comes easily?

i think yearning/pining and self-deprecation come easily to me for personal reasons lmaooo also, in the context of prince simon, writing kristina (it's just so easy to make her the villain, and also put my own frustrations towards my mother on her)

1️⃣ What’s the first fandom you ever participated in online?

Like a lot of folks my age, it was Harry Potter. I'm a perfect fit into that very specific subset of younger millennials that's been nicknamed "The New Bratpack," referencing Miley, Selena, Justin, Nick, Ariana, Timothy, and a number of young male actors and artists whose popularity has spiked enough to give him press coverage, until he does something dumb and and just fades away, as a revival of "Original Bratpack" wide group-recognition Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Maccio, Rob Lowe, and a many others who have made Hollywood shine for the past four or five decades.

All of that might be jumbled, but this, people who started attending school in the year 2000, after spending birth through 1999 raised without much encombus, at home, with a family. Schools had just introduced a new special activity, "Computer Lab," (during which a "technology educator" and a teacher would show the students the bells and whistles of Windows 1998, then keep everyone from putting misspelled profanity at the top of their word documents, because they hadn't learned to use the backspace key yet. Anxious children would cry out for help, and devious ones would pester their friends to ask if "the F-word" ended with a C or a K.)

My bio family got one of those white Gateway boxy things when I was 5-ish, and then when I was 12-ish they replaced it with a laptop and desktop, AND I was now allowed to have my own profile and (loosely monitored) internet access.

Very much true to that spot of a generation, the magic or still-releasing Harry Potter books and, and continuous release of "limited edition" paraphernalia was still a concrete part of, well, everyone I knew's lives. It made making school acquaintances easier. I can be very OCD about my most voracious task of interest of the moment, and memorizing trivia was a hobby of mine.

I'm not going to go back and count the years or do math, but I'm not THAT much younger than Emerson Spartz. By the time extended periods of free internet were allowed, I found MuggleNet, which had just barely spiffed up enough to be a Google recommendation, in addition to becoming navigable for a middle schooler who knew computer skills, up to and including, QWERTY and click-with-mouse.

Once I'd poked around enough to have read all the tabs and verbally debated the guesses for upcoming book subplots (I was way too afraid to leave a comment), I found their fanfiction collection, and I was immediately hooked. I thought it was fun, but there. was probably a glitch in the system. A search term would be run through all data of all text of all files, of all stories of the site. I have some buzzwords. They haven't changed much over the years.

At 12ish I was reading fanfic a few times a week. By age 16 I was hand-writing or making shitty (ha, windows 98, remember?) typed stories that I'd print out and just hide in my room. I just got onto AO3 a little bit before starting my blog, making me a full adult before I hit the "publish" key.

🏃‍♂️ What/s your longest running fandom you still have interest in?

I love Titain A.E., which is a very underrated 20th Century Fox animated film released in the summer of 2000. It's a StarWars-type adventure/mild thriller, definitely PG (kid friendly, but the plot's intricate and there's some canon-typical violence), it really hit the ball out of the park for me. Yes, I believe it is now a Disney pawn, since the mouse in whiteface is carrying on with throwing cash, and grinning at the knowledge of the outcome of the next slippery deal, but it's been long forgotten.

After a disappointing theater run, someone let dust gather on the cover of the original notebook. Characters voiced by Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore, pushed together by fate, must continue to survive in the midst of an inter-species war as they search for a hidden method to restore Earth, all whilst overcoming the obstacles of their post-apocalyptic cyberpunk environment and keeping an eye out for enemies, which may not be where they're expected...

Ok, that sells, right? And the soundtrack is amazing (even if it's a smidge dated, but that underscores the cyberpunk vibe nicely as well)--Lit's Over My Head is a big feature.

The three main characters in the film are all humans in an alien-dominated environment, and they come from drastically different backgrounds. There are three scenes dispersed along the plotline where each of the three characters are wounded/sedated/receiving medical treatment/engaging in field medicine... And with the three characters also having huge potential for the filling in of missing moments and little opportunities of added H/C, one can take things in a lot of different ways, and with a lot of freedom to create complementary backstory.

💣 Have you ever been a part of a fandom during what might be considered a major fandom event?

...No... Not, like, a con. Though I'd love to attend a comicon.

But I have done, oh, eight or so, midnight releases over the stretch of my teens. And a few book parties. Though those, at least in the geographical area in which I grew up, meant that maybe 20 or 30 people would walk aimlessly around Borders (remember when those stores existed???) whilst trying to wave at the news van with its high beams on before it backs out of the gridlock of the parking lot.

when I started shipping it if I did: like two years ago, maybe? idk i think i was like bored or something and desperate for fanfic to read, so i just started going through like most of my fandoms looking for stuff and found some joick things - nothing really smutty or anything, pretty much like fluff and cool aus. i guess i started shipping it after the fics ended up being pretty good :P

my thoughts: idk they’re both beautiful people but i would never ship it seriously bc that’s incest and it’s gross (though tbh i am also guilty of lowkey shipping throki… heh…)

What makes me happy about them: i’m probably gonna repeat what you said, sis, but they were roomies and they have freaking matching tattoos and they’re also just adorable supportive of one another and it’s great (p.s. where is that nick jonas ft. dnce collab?)

What makes me sad about them: it’s a sin

things done in fanfic that annoys me: joe topping??? idk i get at one time nick was a smol and would never top but like, have you listened to ‘be mean’? joe is 100% a bottom, in any relationship, so it seems.

things I look for in fanfic: honestly i mostly like the aus bc they’re cool. so i guess probably anything that focuses a lot less on the fact that they’re brothers? or, like, aus where they actually aren’t brothers. those are the best.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: you’re gonna kill me but honestly my top other ships for these two (bc i’m stuck in 2007-2008, apparently) are joe/taylor and nick/miley so probably them, i guess. (though i also lowkey love nick/shawn mendes so if they were cute little boyfriends, bc i also fully support miley/liam, okay, i’d be totally cool with that too)

My happily ever after for them: pfft idk they become roomies forever? bros for life? bros before hoes, idk. they can’t like seriously date, so.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: nick, now, at least, is 100% the big spoon with joe as the little spoon. 5+ years ago it was probably the reverse :3

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: singing duets!!! writing songs together!!! probably also just naps and cuddling bc these boys are overworked af.
