I finally finished What the Wind Knows after starting it in November. But don’t mistake me taking FOREVER to read this book as a bad sign. Life was just too much for me to actually get into it (new job, mom life, etc). But these last four days I’ve felt on top of life and I finished reading the 3/4 of the book I had left. It was so good. The history of Ireland in the early 1900s, the time travel, the romance, the story, Yeats! If you love any of these topics you need to read this @amy.harmon.author book. 🇮🇪

Hobbies: Reading, gardening, playing the piano, stamp collecting, coin collecting
Personality: Reserved, loyal, hardworking, has a sarcastic side, kind, friendly, gregarious, a slightly skittish nature, intelligent, stubborn, introverted, loving, cautious
About Conor: The first Lynch to be sorted into Hufflepuff in over a century, Conor is both very similar and very different to his parents and has a very complicated relationship with them, as they both overcorrected in their attempts to not be like their own parents. This means that Conor learned to be independent at a younger age than most of his peers. However, that never affected him too much as Conor has always had a rather serious bend. He’s quite a private person, but he is very kind, friendly, and has a gregarious nature around people that he is comfortable with. He does enjoy being around people, even though he’s got a slightly skittish nature. He’s also quite intelligent, stubborn, and cautious.
Conor never really has a good relationship with either of his parents and in the Tadhg Lives AU, he runs away at the age of 12 and begins living with his uncle and aunt. His relationship with his parents never gets the chance to heal either, as they both pass away before they could. However, in the Tadhg Lives AU, he does reconcile with his mother shortly before she passes away and he gets the opportunity to introduce her to his two children, Doyle and Ailis.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Conor becomes a healer like his daughter and youngest granddaughter. He also marries Ciara Mallon, a muggleborn from Derry in Northern Ireland. He falls for Ciara quite quickly and is surprised that they never ran into one another while at Hogwarts. He has two children with Ciara, a son named Doyle Brannigan who was born on December 13, 1925, and a daughter named Ailis Ciara who was born on March 24, 1936. Conor loved both of his children, but he ended up feeling quite wary about the direction his son was heading. The boy was acting much like Conor’s father had and he found that concerning, but his son ignored everything that Conor said causing a rift to form between father and son. His relationship with his daughter was much better and he was quite happy to give her away to a muggleborn man from Donegal named Seán O’Donnell. Sadly, Conor never gets the chance to meet any of his grandchildren as he contracted a fatal case of dragon pox in 1964, while his daughter was pregnant with his first grandchild.
Trivia:
Conor’s youngest grandson is named after him. His middle grandson is also named after him, but more indirectly and it also honors his grandson’s paternal grandfather.
Conor’s relationship with his son went downhill after an argument during the Christmas holidays of 1943. It was bad and nothing was ever the same again. Conor was very heartbroken by their falling out and did try to reach out to his son a few times, but Doyle never replied.
Conor’s relationships with his parents were always rather rocky. They didn’t always get along and well, Conor found himself being a bit of a black sheep in the family. In fact, Conor pretty much sets a new precedent for the Lynch family and it’s his children that end this particular branch of the Lynch family.

Name Meanings: Saoirse → Irish, “liberty” ; Adelia → German, “noble, nobility” ; Lynch → Irish, “mariner.”
Date of Birth: October 10, 1912 (at 5:09 pm)
Gender: Female ; she/her
Sexuality: Bisexual
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
Faceclaim: Raegan Revord
Parents: Tadhg Lynch and Niamh Kelly
Siblings: Aisling Maeve and Oscar Oisín Lynch
Patronus: Lion
Favorite Subjects: Flying, Charms, Transfiguration
Least Favorite Subjects: Potions, History of Magic, Herbology
Extracurriculars: Chaser on her house quidditch team starting in fourth year
Hobbies: Quidditch, football/soccer, reading, flying, horse riding, writing
Personality: Kind, friendly, outgoing, optimistic, impulsive, spontaneous, brazen, gregarious, disorganized, intelligent, stubborn, relaxed
About Saoirse: As the younger daughter, Saoirse has always felt like she needs to compare herself to her older sister, which couldn’t be further from the truth. She might be similar in personality to her sister, but she’s also very different and her parents have always avoided comparing their children. In fact, Saoirse takes after her mother more so than her sister does, although she does have a lot of her father’s impulsivity and spontaneous nature. She’s an outgoing girl with a lot of intelligence and is quite fond of quidditch. She also has a very close relationship with her twin brother, Oscar, and her relationship with her sister is occasionally contentious.
Upon starting her education at Hogwarts, Saoirse was sorted into Gryffindor just like her father had been and found herself right at home there. Perhaps it was because she had grown up around a lot of different Gryffindors and had a lot of good role models to look up to from that house. She also discovered a true passion in quidditch, earning the position of chaser in her fourth year after she spent the summer practicing with her father and some of her “cousins.”
Despite her passion for quidditch, Saoirse’s ambition had always been to follow in her mother’s footsteps to become an auror. As a child, she had grown up listening to stories about what her mother had done during her early years as a field auror and she had always been completely fascinated by the stories. After graduating, Saoirse made that dream a reality, joining the auror training program as one of five girls in the class of thirty-five.
Trivia:
Saoirse’s middle name is after her godmother, who is basically the closest her father has to a sister.
Saoirse loves to hold it over Oscar’s head that she’s five minutes older than him.

Nicknames: Os, Oz
Name Meanings: Oscar → Irish, “god spear or deer lover or champion warrior” ; Theodore → Greek, “gift of God” ; Lynch → Irish, “mariner.”
Date of Birth: October 10, 1912 (at 5:14 pm)
Gender: Male ; he/him
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Faceclaim: Iain Armitage
Parents: Tadhg Lynch and Niamh Kelly
Sisters: Aisling Maeve and Saoirse Brigid Lynch
Patronus: Irish wolfhound (like his father)
Favorite Subjects: Flying, arithmancy, study of ancient runes
Least Favorite Subjects: Herbology, potions
Extracurriculars: Seeker on his house quidditch team in his third year ; prefect
Hobbies: Hiking, reading, flying
Personality: Reserved, logical, practical, rational, stubborn, intelligent, curious, kind, observant, quiet, hardworking, determined, overthinker
About Oscar: As the only son, Oscar tends to take after his father more so than his mother. However, he lacks his father’s interest in mischief. He’s a quiet, reserved person with a logical and rational nature that’s accompanied by a kind and curious nature as well. He’s always felt like an individual, likely because he is the only son and that he’s never felt a desire to compare himself to his sisters… aside from in a competitive sense but that’s mostly reserved for the quidditch pitch. He has a close relationship with his twin sister, Saoirse, and a good relationship with his sister, Aisling, and his parents.
Upon starting Hogwarts, Oscar was sorted into Ravenclaw, where he excelled in many of his classes and found himself at home in the house. He liked the connection to his mother and he also had a few “cousins” in the house, so there were some familiar faces to turn to. He also truly found quidditch and fell in love with it, just like his sister did and like his sister, he didn’t devote his life to quidditch. Unlike his sister, though, Oscar became a prefect in his fifth year and he found the position to be interesting. He learned that he preferred to work by himself and he didn’t want to be one to have too much power. Instead, after graduating, Oscar found himself inheriting the Kelly farm after his grandfather passed and he became quite the magical farmer… something no one ever expected from him.
Trivia:
Oscar is named after his mother’s late older brother, Ronan Oscar Kelly who passed away as a very young child. His middle name is after family friends.

Extracurriculars: Astronomy club
Hobbies: Reading, chess, star gazing
Personality: Reliable, reserved, kind, intelligent, competitive (mostly with his siblings), sarcastic, curious, well spoken, hardworking, stubborn, quiet, dry wit
About Harry: As the eldest son, Harry generally has a rather serious demeanor. He takes after his father a lot in temperament and demeanor, although Harry has never felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s much more uptight than his siblings, although he does have a close bond with his younger brother, Andrew. In addition, Harry is a bit closer to his mother than he is his father. There’s no real reason, aside from the fact that Harry spent a bit more time with his mother than he did his father.
Upon starting his education at Hogwarts, Harry was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was a hatstall between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, though. He didn’t join the quidditch team, though, as he had a slight desire to rebel against his family’s quidditch passions. It wasn’t big, but he found his own passions and interests, although he did continue to support quidditch teams.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Harry became an astronomer. He had always been fascinated by space and paid close attention to the advancements that the muggles were making. In addition, Harry fell in love with Lucy Devlin, a magiczoologist and fellow Ravenclaw alumn. Together, they had three children: Dorothy Josephine “Dot,” Eamon William, and Rosemary Ivy Pembroke.
Trivia:
Harry’s middle name is after his late paternal grandfather, Gareth Rhys Pembroke.
Like all three of his siblings, Harry knows the sign language that his Aunt Aoife uses and has learned it since birth, more or less.
Harry doesn’t really respond to the name “Henry.” He mostly hates being called it. Lucy is the only one he really allows to call him “Henry,” though.
Harry is the great-grandfather of Sophia Josephine “Sophie” Pembroke and her two siblings, Rhys Andrew and Emmeline Daisy “Emmy” Pembroke.

Hobbies: Quidditch, pranks, reading,
Personality: Intelligent, stubborn, hardworking, modest, kind, warm, loyal, athletic, friendly, reserved, anxiety-prone, athletic, mischievous
About Margo: As the only daughter and youngest child, Margo takes after her mother a lot. She has her mother’s warm and friendly nature, but it’s coupled with her father’s reserved and anxiety-prone nature. These balance each other out, though. In addition, Margo has a close relationship with her father and with her brother, Colin. Colin is her favorite person to prank, because Colin will get involved and enjoy them.
Upon starting her education at Hogwarts, Margo was sorted into Hufflepuff, just like both of her parents had been. She found her footing in Hufflepuff quite quickly, feeling at home early on in her first year. In her third year, she made the Hufflepuff quidditch team with the position of seeker. She enjoyed the position, but hated the way everyone immediately compared her to her father. Therefore, when the opportunity to play other positions emerged, Margo jumped at the opportunity, but she always came back to seeker.
Despite her passion for quidditch, Margo never went professional. She enjoyed it as more of a pastime or hobby. Instead, she went on to become a quidditch journalist, reporting on the different games throughout the British and Irish league. She also dabbled in other writing pursuits like fiction, but never took them professional during her lifetime.
Trivia:
Like her father, Margo is allergic to cats.
Margo inherited her mother’s ability to change her hair color. However, she also inherited her mother’s limitations, meaning that the only colors she can change her hair to are blonde and brunette.
One of Margo’s favorite pastimes is pranking her brothers. She loves to mess with them, especially when they start getting on her nerves. She has started more than one prank war with Colin, as he’s the brother that willingly goes along with it.

Hobbies: Baking, cooking, reading
Personality: Kind, intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate, self-conscious, curious, modest, patient, reliable, passionate, friendly, loyal, sincere, hard-working, sensitive, reserved
About Lucy: As the younger twin and middle daughter, Lucy struggles to find her footing. She’s the middle child, in every way, and while she definitely doesn’t feel like a middle child, Lucy struggles to understand her own role in the family. She is her mother’s daughter, though, and they share many similarities in personality. Lucy takes great pride in their similarities. Aside from her twin, she’s closest to Mattie, although she has never truly shared her sister’s desire for creative pursuits.
Upon starting Hogwarts, Lucy is sorted into Ravenclaw after ten minutes of the hat debating if she would fit better in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. She became comfortable in Ravenclaw quite quickly, which was likely helped by the fact that her twin had also been placed there and so, Lucy had a familiar face to turn to. Luckily, the students and people around them were able to understand that Emmeline and Lucy were different people, even if they were quite similar.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Lucy followed her mother’s footsteps into the field of magiozoology. She became fascinated by moon calves and augries, in particular. In addition, Lucy also fell in love with Harry Pembroke, an astronomer and a fellow Ravenclaw alumn. They had three children together: Dorothy Josephine “Dot,” Eamon William, and Rosemary Ivy Pembroke.
Trivia:
Lucy’s family are the only ones who call her “Lucy-Lu.” Harry Pembroke is the only one who calls her “Lu.” Everyone else calls her “Lucy” and that’s the way that she likes it.
Lucy’s middle name is in honor of her mother.
As a child, she would bring home all sorts of injured animals that she found while exploring the land surrounding the family’s home.
As an adult, the Devlin-Pembroke house is home to many different creatures, most of which Lucy had brought home.
Lucy is the great-grandmother of Sophia Josephine “Sophie” Pembroke and her siblings, Rhys Andrew and Emmeline Daisy “Emmy” Pembroke.

Hobbies: Quidditch, fencing, reading
Personality: Reserved, cautious, compassionate, kind, loyal, hardworking, intelligent, strong sense of fairness, practical, athletic, modest, reliable, humble, helpful, stubborn, conscientious
About Sebastian: As the younger son, Sebastian is the child that takes after his father the most… at least in terms of personality. He also is, perhaps, the closest to William as well. They just click quite well. In addition, aside from his twin (of course), Sebastian is probably the closest to his big brother, Samuel. He absolutely adores his big brother, in a way that happened due to their ten year age gap. He doesn’t feel the need to rebel against their parents the way that Samuel does, though.
When he started his education at Hogwarts, Sebastian was sorted into Hufflepuff. For the first time in his life, Sebastian found himself separated from Mattie, which left him panicked for the first few weeks. Slowly, though, Sebastian found his place within Hufflepuff house. He joined the quidditch team in his third year, earning the position of seeker. He wouldn’t pursue it as a career, but he quite enjoyed the sport.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given his similarities to his father, Sebastian ends up becoming a wandmaker after he graduates from Hogwarts. He never became a big name like Ollivander’s or Gregorovitch. Instead, he kept a small practice and preferred it that way.
Trivia:
Sebastian is ten minutes older than his twin sister, Mattie.
His middle name is after both his father and great-grandfather. His great-grandfather was named Liam, which is an Irish variation of William.
Born seven years after Emmeline and Lucy, Sebastian (and his twin sister) was a surprise baby.
His siblings are the only ones who really call him “Seb” or “Bastian.” He prefers “Bastian,” but would really just like to be called Sebastian.
He is a very good fencer, besting all four of his siblings quite often.

Hobbies: Painting, music, reading, games
Personality: Intelligent, cunning, musical, creative, resourceful, hardworking, reserved, compassionate, ambitious, kind, thoughtful, modest, reliable, stubborn, can be inflexible, troublemaker, confident, practical
About Mattie: As the youngest daughter, Mattie is the only one of her siblings to have a creative passion. She is quite fond of the piano and can often be found playing a piano during gatherings. In addition, she’s quite fond of painting, although she’s not interested in making a career out of it. Aside from her creative passions, Mattie has a close relationship with her siblings. Besides her twin, Mattie is probably the closest to her sister, Lucy.
When she started her education, Mattie was sorted into Slytherin. Finding herself separated from Sebastian for the first time, Mattie found her footing surprisingly quickly. She joined the Slytherin quidditch team in her fourth year, earning the position of keeper. She enjoyed the sport, but not as much as either of her brothers.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Mattie became a tutor/governess. She wasn’t thrilled with the job, struggling to find things that felt fulfilling. She found fulfillment, though, when she began to teach music to young girls. It was a satisfying move.
Trivia:
Mattie is ten minutes younger than her twin brother, Sebastian.
Her siblings are the only people who ever call her “Tilly.” They only do it when they want to get on her nerves. Sebastian tends to do it the most often, but she’ll call him “Seb” in return.
Born seven years after Emmeline and Lucy, Mattie and her twin brother were surprise babies.

The Mysterious Past (or Future?) of Niamh Fitzgerald
Many have noticed the necklace that Niamh Fitzgerald wears which looks very similar to a time-turner except that the central piece is not a hourglass but a stone shaped like a water drop (feel free to remember this detail because I have other posts planned in the future that will bring this up again 👀). So does that mean that Niamh could time-travel? I’d say it’s very likely!
And if you’re not convinced by the necklace, did you know there is a goddess named Niamh in Irish mythology? She was described as having long blond hair and riding a white horse. She appeared one day to the great warrior Oisín and asked him to come with her to Tír na nÓg, the Land Of Eternal Youth where nobody ever ages. Oisín agreed to go with her but after having spent 3 joyful years together in Tír na nÓg, Oisín grew homesick and asked to visit Ireland again. Niamh reluctantly agreed but on the condition that he take her white horse and never touch Irish soil. When he got back to Ireland, Oisín realized that, in the mortal world, 300 years had passed since he left with Niamh as time passes by more slowly in Tír na nÓg. After accidentally touching the ground, Oisín sundenly turned into an old man, aging the 300 years that he had missed, and died soon after.
Does Oisín’s fate remind you of anyone? Of course, it’s what happened to Prof. Hecat when she traveled in time during her time in the department of mysteries. It’s also what happened to Eloise Mintumble who, in 1899, became trapped for 5 days in the year 1402. When she came back to the present, she suddenly aged 500 years and died soon after.
Of couse, in the tale, Niamh does not actually time-travel, instead she took Oisín to the celtic Otherworld. But time manipulation is still a big part of the tale and the fate of the hero and I believe them naming the character Niamh is not a coincidence. Especially when they also give this character a time-turner necklace!
Another thing that I have noticed recently is during Niamh’s trial. At the very beginning of the trial, Niamh tells the MC:
Pay attention. Things are not always what they seem.
And then, at the end of the trial, after we take the resurrection stone, she repeats:
Nothing is what it seems.
And that’s a bit strange to me because this trial, compared to the first two keeper trials by Rackham and Rockwood, is actually very straightforward. We have a very clear mission to avoid Death and a single path to follow. So what exactly in Niamh’s trial is ‘not as it seems’? Of course, this could be related to the lesson we learn during this trial ("light does not exist without shadow nor shadow without light") but what if this was about something else?
Because, if we pay attention, there is definitely something out of place during Niamh’s trial. During the last scene, when we are taken to the graveyard where mourners are mourning Niamh’s death, we see a lot of ‘modern’ elements that I don’t think belong in the late middle ages when Niamh is supposed to have lived (and died). First of all, the mourners. It’s a bit hard to see, but I don’t think they are dressed like people from the middles ages. In fact, they are dressed like other wizards and witches we encounter in 1890. (Also notice the hairstyles.)
And, even more damning, in my opinion, are the carriages we see in the graveyard.
These look very similar to the carriages we see in 1890. I’m no historian but I’ve tried looking into the type of carriages that existed in the middle ages and none of them looked like that. Miniature drawing of horse-drawn carriages from the middle ages looked more like wagons.
So what does that mean? Could this simply be an oversight by the devs? They just re-used assets they had, not caring that they were not historically accurate? I don’t think so because, in an earlier part of the trial, when we cross a village trying to escape Death, we see a lot of wooden carts that look a lot more like what we would expect wooden carriages in the middle ages to look like.
In that earlier part of the trial, we do not encounter any of the ‘modern’ elements we see in the graveyard scene. Even the few villagers we encounter in the beginning of the trial are not dressed at all like the mourners we later see (although their clothes are hard to see because they are very dark).
So if we assume that the anachronistic elements are intentional and not an oversight this could indicate that Niamh Fitzgerald died much later in time than she should have.
Was Niamh Fitzgerald a time-traveller? Perhaps she also worked for the department of mysteries in the nineteenth century, and, like Dinah Hecat and Eloise Mintumble, she travelled in time and got stuck there for many, many years. She lived an entire life in the past, becoming the Headmistress of Hogwarts and part of the mysterious Keepers. And, perhaps, one day, she found a way back to her present, only to age hundreds of years in the matter of an instant and die soon after, being grieved by her loved ones devastated by her sudden death.
Or perhaps I'm getting a bit carried away here! 😅 But I'm still convinced Niamh Fitzgerald has something to do with time-travel! How would you feel if they introduced some time-travel storyline in HL2?

WIPs word search
the lovely @dharmasharks tagged me to do this one—thank you, friend! I was hoping to do something like this, and it was pretty fun<3
Most of these are bits and pieces that were originally meant for the canon-divergent post-CATWS fic that I started posting in February but have since woefully neglected to update as I lost some steam and tried to restructure it, so this is equal parts a game and an attempt to get myself to finally post a new chapter. Fingers crossed!
Heat:
“How is it,” and he’s laughing, first time in a long time Steve’s seen him like this, laughing loud and unafraid and with his whole body, “Tell me, Rogers – how is it you’re all juiced up on Uncle Sam’s finest steroids, lifting tanks and all, but you still burn like a sheet of paper anytime you’re out in the sun for longer than five minutes?” “It’s a tan,” Steve grumbles half-heartedly, feeling the sorry back of his neck flame up as he rolls his head over to squint at him through the blinding sunlight. “I’m tanning. It’s handsome, I hear.” That sends Bucky off again. “No. No it ain’t.” He gestures vaguely to his own self, to where he’s bronzed out around the edges from the incessant heat beating down on them. “I tan. Morita tans. Even fucking Dugan tans, and he’s as Irish pale as you. You are one step away from sparking up like a tinderbox. Look at that.” He swipes at the bridge of Steve’s nose where he’s gone red and freckled and already peeling a little bit, and he hisses at the burn, swatting his hand away. “Cut it out.” Bucky leans back and just looks at him for a long second, blinking the unfortunate mix of sweat and dust out of his eyes. His face splits back into a grin like he can't help himself and something in Steve’s chest flips, unhindered by the annoyance. “What?” “You look like a tomato. It's unbelievable.” “Shut up.” It’s stupid, barely even passes for a joke. He finds himself laughing along anyway, caught in the contagious energy rolling off Bucky in waves, the relaxed slouch of his body in the warm red dirt. “Shut the hell up. God almighty, you’re un-fucking-bearable.”
Drink:
“You’d be doing a better job if you were paying as much attention to our man as to gossip Yelena overheard.” “Gossip is our business. And he’s still trying to impress her.” “Is it working?” Natalia casts a glance to the pair at the bar, watches the dull glint of the woman's gaudy necklace where she twists it in an idle loop around a finger over and over, the scatter of light dancing across the polished marbletop. “She just yawned into her drink. Are you, really?” “Am I what really?” “American.” The static of the line crackles in the hollow pause and she gets that feeling again, the invigorating fear of having pushed too far over the clearly drawn line. “What would it matter, anyway?” “People change sides all the time.” That, of all things, finally gets a reaction, trips a miracle: the Soldier laughs. It's not a particularly nice sound. "Sweetheart, I'm not people."
Look:
I remember getting angry every time he told that story. I couldn’t make heads or tails of the point of it. I’d sit there after, while you were going off about adventuring and the hero’s sacrifice and if I think Katherine McMahon from class looks like what Niamh is supposed to look like, thinking to myself about how Oisín deserved the horrible fate he got, dying all old and weak and alone. Thinking, what kind of schmuck leaves the love of his life behind just like that? Turns out I got my answer. Life’s funny like that, and by funny I mean a vindictive old bastard. Anyway, I don’t think it’s all so horrible, anymore. Oisín got to go home, after all. Everyone back there was gone, sure, but at least he got to see it with his own two eyes again, this place he used to love and the way it had changed, instead of spending the rest of eternity not knowing and homesick without realizing what for. At least he got to help some folks before he died. He got to grow old, even for a moment – I remember when we were kids we’d talk about what we’d do if we could be like the fairies and heroes living forever in the stories, about all the exciting things we’d live to see, about what the future would look like. Now I think maybe he knew it was his time, Oisín – maybe he leaped off the horse before he even got to fall, let his feet hit the ground of Ireland one last time. Maybe he knew better than we did back then that the future ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Dance:
They fall back into a drowsy silence as Steve rolls down the window and settles into the rush of cool air. Some crooning melody floats off the speakers and Bucky hums along absently to the unfamiliar tones, taking them off the highway. In his peripheral he can feel Steve’s eyes on him, still soft and loose from sleep, warm in the last of the golden afternoon glow. “Quit looking at me like that,” he grumbles after a minute. “I ain’t looking at you like anything,” counters Steve immediately. “You keep it up, your face will freeze that way.” “You vain son of a bitch,” Steve throws back, smile blooming easy and unbearably familiar. “How d’you even know it’s you I’m looking at? Maybe I’m just admiring the scenery.” “Perfectly good window right next to you, Rogers.” “Sure.” He yawns again, then breaks out into a grin. “View’s not as pretty, though.” Bucky, to his utter bewilderment, feels his face flush hot. “Oh, I’m pretty now, is that it?” he settles on after a moment. “Yeah, Buck,” Steve says, grin widening impishly. This motherfucker. “Prettiest dame in the whole dance hall.” Bucky snorts. “Unbelievable. You stop trying to kill a guy for two minutes…” “Got the hair for it, now, too.” “Asshole,” Bucky mutters, but the laughter’s escaping despite his best judgement. “Tell you one thing: I definitely don’t remember you being this much of a pain in my neck.” “Good thing I don't mind reminding you, then,” Steve says in a breezy tone, grabbing the phone between them and hitching his knees up onto the dashboard.
No idea who all’s done this so far, but I'm gonna go ahead and lightly poke @emjee @snowangeldotmp3 @painted-doe @burberrycanary @vostok3-ka @gyokujyn @buckrogers as well as open tag anyone else who would like to do this. (yes, I really mean that, and please tag me if you do!) Contestants, your words are space, sharp, sweet and home. Go nuts!
#tag game#my fic#max.txt#these are pretty long but I just felt like whichever way I cut them they were left contextless. need to work on that in the future for sure

Fake fic ask game! Title: "Put Me Back In It" (yes I'm sending u a hozier lyric title xD) in w/e fandom you feel like!
gonna give you two, because 1, I'm rereading the Vorkosigan Saga and just got to Memory and I have certain events on my mind, and 2, hozier let's goooooooooooo
put me back in it (yu yu hakusho, yukimura keiko/urameshi yusuke, yukimura keiko & botan, yukimura keiko & kuwabara kazuha, kuwabara kazuha/yukina, hiei & yukina, kurama, vaguely inspired by orpheus and eurydice, more inspired by oisín and niamh, only niamh is yusuke and keiko has Opinions about demon realm)
summary: come to demon realm, yusuke said. hang out, watch a tournament, I'm disqualified this year so I can't fight, yusuke said. there won't be any problems, I promise, yusuke said.
if he wasn't currently suffering a bad case of mostly-probably dead, keiko would have killed him herself. she's going to have to save them all instead.
---
put me back in it (vorkosigan saga [lois mcmaster bujold], miles naismith vorkosigan & dendarii mercenaries, miles naismith vorkosigan & simon illyan, miles naismith vorkosigan/elli quinn, miles naismith vorkosigan & simon illyan, miles naismith & miles vorkosigan, canon-typical violence, canon-typical depression, suicidal ideation, what if, memory spoilers)
summary: miles manages to keep a lid on his little...mid-combat seizure issue for five extra minutes. an unimportant impsec courier keeps his legs, admiral naismith keeps his job, and the dendarii mercenary fleet keeps on flying. it's only when a problem on barrayar sets the fleet adrift from their oldest and most stable employer that miles has to to return home with a plan to save illyan, save impsec, save barrayar herself. all it would cost is lieutenant lord miles vorkosigan, but he's been fading for a while anyway.

Hello! Top 5 fave folklores/fairytales? :)
ohhhh i LOVE this one! wow okay this is so much fun:
Petrosinella by Giambattista Basile, which is one of the origins of the Rapunzel fairytale! It's a Neapolitan fairytale where a pregnant woman steals parsley from an ogress and has to give up her baby as punishment. The ogress teaches the baby magic and when she grows up, she escapes using magic acorns that turn into animals to attack the ogress. It's very fun even aside from the whole hair thing.
Pintosmalto, again by Basile, where a woman who doesn't want to marry anyone her father chooses makes her perfect husband out of treasures that her father brings her instead; a queen steals the husband away and she has to go get him back.
I'm a sucker for the genre of Irish fairytales where a fairy king steals a queen or a bride and then her husband goes crazy trying to get her back. The one where Fionbharr steals Ethna is fun, the king literally digs all the way down into the fairy realm under a hill until he's close to destroying the palace and Fionbharr is like fiiine, take her back just don't mess up my house.
Similarly I love anything set in Tír na nÓg. I love Niamh and Oisín (and I really like Yeats' version!) Niamh takes Oisín to live in Tír na nÓg with her for what he thinks is 3 years, but is actually 300. He wants to go back to Ireland and she's like okay, but don't touch the ground; he goes back and falls off his horse and immediately ages 300 years and dies.
The Brown Bear of Norway is long and twisty and honestly needs a good retelling someday. When my dad read this story to me as a kid, I went around telling people I was going to marry a bear when I grew up, because to me the point of the story was she should've just dealt with him being a bear sometimes (I was unconcerned about the kidnapped children).
ask me top 5 anything! 🌱🌰🧚🏻🐻
#asks#littlewinnow#top 5 lists#ask meme#i'm sorry these are all irish and italian lol i literally could only think of the ones i heard as a kid and like#greek myths#which is a whole separate genre tbh#ALSO i am very sleepy so i'm going to do the rest of these tomorrow#there are sooo many good ones i still have to do i'm so excited lol

I did get your AF ask, but I'm holding off on answering so I can really think about it.
Off the cuff, I'd say Colfer does employ some writing techniques that are common among fairy tales: describing something in metaphor, or claiming it's "beyond description." However, when talking about scenes or concepts that are almost impossible to translate from text to a visual medium, none come to mind.
I do need to reread the series, anyway. Been a few years.
Absolutely no rush to answer that ask, if at all! There's limited time to use Tumblr, and I want folks to interact with my asks only insofar as they have the energy and interest in the topic.
I have been rereading the books; I was reminded of what you'd talked about with adapting parts of the series when I hit the scene with young!Artemis and Angeline (who is possessed by Opal and thus does not realize her son is the "wrong" age) in TTP. It's possible in the text to delay the reveal of the substitution of Artemises, but the effect would necessarily be trickier to achieve in a visual medium.
Although I still think the first three books of the series are most well-written, I've been enjoying the later series more than I did upon my initial read. I appreciate certain choices now (e.g., Artemis' death and rebirth, the three years lost in Hybras that mirror mythic stories like Oisín and Niamh, etc) in a way that I did not as a teen.

🍀Happy St Patrick’s Day!🍀
Hope you all enjoy the day and take the opportunity to learn about Irish Culture because it’s so magical!
And I thought it would be nice as part of St Patricks Day to talk about the Origin and Story behind the name I use on this blog!
Niamh - Pronounced Neev
It means Brightness and Radiance
According to Irish Legend she is known as Niamh Cinn-Óir, meaning Niamh of Golden Hair. She was a beautiful princess, strong, and mysterious and has links with magic and faeries. She is also the daughter of Manannán mac Lir, god of the sea, and rides a magical white horse called Enbarr.
She rules over the land of Tír na nÓg (the land of eternal youth), and the story in which she features most is “Oisín in Tír na nÓg” from the Ossianic/Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology.
According to Irish legend, Niamh spotted Oisín from across the sea, a young warrior who was a part of the Fianna.
They swiftly fell in love, and she whisked him off to the land of Tír na nÓg so they could be young and in love together forever. They lived happily for 300 years in the faerie land.
After some time, however, a small part of Oisín longed to see Ireland and his family again. Niamh loaned Oisín her horse, with the warning that, should his feet touch Irish soil, he would never be able to return to Tír na nÓg.
That Irish legend states that upon his return, Oisín found his childhood home covered in moss and his family long buried. Some men in his village informed him that the Fianna were only childhood stories told to them by their grandfathers.
Oisín offered to help them as they struggled to move a stone and fell from his horse in the process. The minute he touched the ground, he aged the 300 years he had spent with Niamh in Tír na nÓg, and their love story had a tragic end.
In the medieval version of the story from Irish history, Niamh is the daughter of the King of Munster, Aengus Tírech of ancient Ireland. She elopes with Oisín to Ulster, where they spent six weeks together. Tragically, the story ends with her death as her father arrives with an army in tow.
I absolutely love this legend and it definitely helped inspire the feel I wanted for the reader in The Demigod From Asgard 🥰

as a fenian, I can fully imagine a universe where the gang are all irish and fit into certain archetypes of modern irish society. walk w/ me here:
Dennis: Went to one of the “fancy” all-boys schools - a st.pats college probs. Maybe even something like gonzaga. Has a south dublin accent. Did a joint honours of psychology and - honestly? - food science i’d say. Used to wear polos and boat shoes every day, before he got closer w/ Mac and Charlie. ‘Happens’ to be in the pub when college night outs are happeneing so he can chat up girls. Irish Names: Connor/Jack/Ryan (which i realise would make him ryan reynolds but move past it)
Dee: Went to loreto. Did psychology at Trinners. Used to constantly speak with an exaggerated D4 accent but now only uses it in certain schemes. Clings to her stuff she got in Brown Thomas on Grafton Street when she was a teenager. Says “ah here”. Claims girls are too much drama. Refuses to vape, only smokes cigs. Irish Names: Niamh/Orla/Caoimhe
Mac: Roadman definitely. Went to a Christian Brothers school along with Charlie. Puts on fake northsider accent but it’s really more neutral since his da’s from Sligo. Wears northsider fully black/grey fits. Pretends he likes vaping more than he actually does. Tells ppl he carries a shank around (doesn’t). Once clicked on a link saying he’d won a trip to Tenerife and got his facebook hacked. Irish Names: Finn (not fionn, finn), Johno, Danny
Charlie: Went to Christian Brothers with Mac. Got constantly in trouble at school for his shoes being wrong, his jumper being too tatty, not tucking in his shirt etc. Hangs around the ramparts looking for interesting trinkets and accidently got poked w/ a syringe in the process. Went swimming in a pothole once. Vapes. Does boyracing with Mac and Dennis in the empty supervalu carpark at night. Lives in one of those shabby Dublin flats that were built a bit too fast to be safe to live in. Irish Names: Oisín/Seán/Cillian
i’ll edit this later to include frank but i need some help thinking of his irish archetype so constructive advice would be welcomed

🌊🌊 Niamh Cinn-Óir Descendant at Monster High!! 🌊🌊
Last semester, I had recently gotten into Irish Folklore/Myths, specifically the story of Niamh and Oisín. I don’t believe I’m Irish, so if I get anything wrong or this is weird, please let me know! I’ll immediately take her down! I just thought she’d be a cool concept for Monster High since it delves into other mythologies! I specifically made her as a G3 character, but she could be from other Gens too! Facts about her and their brief story are below:
Niamh Cinn-Óir can be depicted as the goddess of the sea, fate, death, and is the daughter of the King of the Land of Youth (Tír an nÓg). The most well-known story of her tells the tale of her venturing to Ireland across the Atlantic Ocean. This is where she came across Oisín and the Fianna tribe on the Irish shores. They both instantly fell in love and Niamh asked Oisín to come with her back to the Land of Youth to get married. He agreed and they lived there joyfully for three years, eventually having 2 sons and a daughter.
Oisín, however, grew homesick and wished to leave this realm to visit his family back in Ireland. Niamh begged him not to leave, but eventually let him by giving him her white horse to cross the water. She warned him that she wouldn’t be able to protect him outside of the magical realm if he stepped foot on the soil. When Oisín reached Ireland, he couldn’t find his tribe and found out from the locals that the Fianna Tribe left hundreds of years ago. He ended up finding out that 300 years had passed in Ireland during the time he lived in the Land of Youth.
Oisín ran into a group of Irishmen struggling to move a large rock and lent down from the horse to help them. Sadly, he fell off and touched the soil, immediately turning into a withered old man. He ended up passing a few days later on that very same Irish soil, never to see Niamh again on the human plane.
Notes on Doll:
Once again, if I got anything wrong or this is weird, please let me know and I’ll take her down! I just thought she’d be a cool addition to Monster High and she was more of a “passion project” than an OC! I hope you guys like her!

FANKIDS APPRECIATION WEEK, DAY 3: Holy Trinities
AISLING, SAOIRSE, and OISÍN LYNCH are the children of Tadhg Lynch and Niamh Kelly. Saoirse and Oisín are twins, five years younger than Aisling. They’ve generally got a good relationship, which is quite the antithesis to their father’s own sibling relationship. The three of them get on quite well, although Saoirse has a tendency to compare herself to her older sister and the twins are a bit closer to each other than they are to Aisling.
GIO, ENZO, and REVA ROVERE-PARSONS are the children of Georgie Parsons and Angelo della Rovere (@potionboy3). They usually get along alright, although the similarities between Gio and Reva can cause them to butt head and both of them are closer to Enzo than to each other. The Rovere-Parsons kids do have a good relationship, which is something their parents tried to foster in them… especially because there’s no extenuating circumstances that can cause too much damage to their sibling relationships.
MILES, JANE, and KATE O’NEILL are the children of Rory O’Neill. Miles is Rory’s son with his late first wife, Francesca Ashby, while Jane and Kate, are his twin daughters with his second wife, Ethel Malinda (@gaygryffindorgal). There’s a fourteen year age gap between Miles and the girls, which precludes a lot of chances for closeness between them during Jane and Kate’s childhood. However, as the girls grow up, their relationship with Miles grows closer and they’re able to find more in common with one another.
MAGGIE, RICHARD, and AUDREY SAPIEHA are the children of Aisling Lynch and Jojo Sapieha (@slytherindisaster). These three, in many ways, subvert expectations. Maggie’s the troublemaker, while Richard, who looks like his maternal grandfather, is the serious and responsible one and Audrey is the carefree animal lover. They generally get along, although Maggie is a bit older than Richard and Audrey. They do have a tendency to bicker a bit, but well, there’s genes from two of the Gryffindorks in these kids.
SETH, NAOMI, and CIARAN O’DONNELL are the triplet children of Conor O’Donnell and Ruth Lyman. Born shortly after Christmas, the triplets generally have a good relationship with one another. Seth, Naomi, and Ciaran are quite close and typically, their relationship is similar to their father’s relationship with his siblings. They’re rather similar to their parents and each other, which can cause some heads to butt. They’re also the youngest of the O’Donnell cousins.
WYATT, JONAH, and ZOEY MACKADE are the children of Nate MacKade and Nova Hartley (@gaygryffindorgal). Wyatt might be five years older than the twins, Jonah and Zoey, and a lot more carefree than either of them ever were, but he’s their big brother and he loves them. Jonah and Zoey love him too, even if they find him too obnoxious. Meanwhile, the twins have a strong relationship that’s prone to bickering as Zoey acts like the big sister and Jonah gets annoyed by it. Wyatt, Jonah, and Zoey love each other a lot, but like their cousins, they don’t always like each other.
LYLA, AMELIA, and TOMMY WHITTEN-MARCH are the adopted children of Thea Whitten and Noa March (@thatravenpuffwitch), although Lyla and Amelia are identical twins. Tommy joined the family last, at the age of four after the death of his father, while the twins, Lyla and Amelia were adopted as babies. Thus, it took them awhile to start forming a bond as Lyla and Amelia are also six years older than Tommy. However, they did eventually have a good relationship and prove that sibling bonds can transcend blood.
ASHER, HAZEL, and HUGH WHITTEN are the children of Jack Whitten and Sage Carridan (@kc-and-co). They have a good relationship, with Asher taking after their mother and Hazel and Hugh taking after their father. Hazel and Hugh have a slightly closer relationship than either of them have with Asher. However, this doesn’t stop a close bond from forming, as the siblings found ways to connect… commonly golf as they often accompanied their maternal grandfather to the golf course.

J'ai encore une question, une sorte de question 2 bis: If you could meet any fictional character, who would it be?
Oooh, good question! I am not too sure, actually! Maybe Marguerite Gautier or Nastasya Filippovna because I'd want to give them a hug - the world was too cruel to them. But hanging out with Titania from A Midsummer Night's Dream would also be super cool! And all the mythical creatures too haha :P Ooh and Niamh from an Irish myth called Oisín i Tír na nÓg (she came from Tír na nÓg which is the land of Youth, was daughter of the King there, and she brought Oisín (an outsider) back to the island). My answers would be different though, if I could choose deities from antiquity! But "fictional character" is not exactly an appropriate label for them!
