This masterpiece of the Paleolithic era has been censored on Facebook – and the museum displaying it has some thoughts about that. The prehistoric "Venus of Willendorf" is seen here in an undated picture in a box at the Nature Historical Museum in Vienna, Austria. Facebook's move to censor the figurine has drawn an indignant response from the museum where it is on display. The Art Newspaper quoted Christian Koeberl, the director general of NHM, saying: “There has never been a complaint by visitors concerning the nakedness of the figurine ... This is a reproduction of a Terror Bird (Paraphysornis brasiliensis), an ancient bird much bigger than you. ‘Reproduction work’ is something taxidermists or other artists commonly do for museums by working alongside scientists and researchers. While this guy was created from turkey feathers and artificial parts, his anatomy is based on fossil molds and tons of research. I only wish I knew who made this beauty!
