Big Hype For NHL All Star Game In Toronto

For the first time in a long time, I cannot stop thinking about the NHL all-star skills competition. For once, the NHL seems to have taken a second to touch grass. With the help of Connor Mcdavid, they've created what has become the most hyped skills comp, maybe, ever. Its possibly my depravation of best on best hockey, with no international play since 2016, which even then was kind of a joke of best on best. WE WANT OLYMPICS... But I digress. The best players in the NHL, no, ACTUALLY the best players in the NHL are going to be there. A Mind Blowing list. Matthews? Yep. Mcdavid? Obviously. MacKinnon? Duh. Kuch- I said what I said. Even Nylander finally earned his spotlight.

Only major name missing is Quinn Hughes. Of the 10 names already released I can't think of a more deserving group, though. There are also 3 more players to be added. 2 as a part of the NHL’s shtick and a replacement for an injured Jack Hughes. I do believe Mcdavid played a big hand in this group coming together, and with NHL CCO Steve Mayer saying “We want to find 12 guys who are going to be engaged, who are the most skilled players in our league, who are big personalities, who are going to go really hard to win the title,” looks to me like they hit the nail on the head. I anticipate a few more eyes on the show this year.

OKAY. SO. outside of the obvious (1oa teenagers kidnapped from their childhoods to save some fuckass city) theyre constantly compared to each other (see: past three/four nhl awards + runners up) they’re both one and two for best skaters in thr league and best player rn, but they will both forever be in sidney crosby’s shadow (natemac will always be cole harbor’s second son, connor will always be the next next one, the second modern generational talent) but there’s no real angst there bc i don’t think they particularly mind + they both have raging childhood/current crushes on him anyway. i think despite colorado’s incredibly incredibly lean years (rip 2016-17 colorado avalanche) and the fact that it took natemac ELEVEN. years to win the hart + ted lindsay (and to my knowledge he’s never won the art ross) + he didnt win thr conn smythe (tbh like. his other other boyfriend got it so i dont think theres any real angst there) + his old contract was a freaking fleece, connor would swap their careers if given yhe chance bc he won the cup! and he successfully did what the oilers have fallen short of year on year (build from underneath graves up all the way to the freaking moon) not to mention the avs swept the oilers two years ago on the way to that cup and that was the year leon had a high ankle sprain (and connor found it difficult to watch him play like that, as a friend). theyre also very much a similar level of intensity/insanity + they have a very similar ‘u have to look hard to Get them’ vibe. also they sat next to eachother at the 2024 asg skills comp + there was a clip of them interacting

yes we’ll sit side by side during the 2024 all star game skills comp, legs pressed against each other, skates knocking. yes we’ll put our heads close and gossip and laugh like old times. yes we’ll do a fashion review for nhl socials together and we’ll know down to our bones what the other would wear

kids these days have forgotten the lore of william nylander and david pastrnak. like yes we'll play together in sweden, cut our teeth together as we navigate pro hockey. yes we'll be attached at the hip despite not having a shared language at first because we'd sit there with our translator apps and talk about anything and everything. yes we'll get drafted to bitter division rivals. yes i'll wear your number when i make it to the pros. yes i'll continue texting you even with no replies only to later learn that you weren't ignoring me at all, your phone number just changed. yes we'll get dinner after the game. yes to this day we wear the same neckties sometimes
