Scientific inquiry into this question shows that autistic people may be more likely to be gender-diverse or non-conforming than non-autistic. Confronting one's gender identity and gaining self-understanding can often be a long, confusing, and difficult internal struggle. This presentation is an exploration into the unique challenges and triumphs faced by someone at the intersection of two often misunderstood worlds: autism and gender nonconformity.

BRIEF BIO: Betsy Selvam is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English, Vellore Institute of Technology, India. She is an autistic scholar specializing in Critical Autism Studies. Her work focuses on autistic life writing. She has presented on topics related to autistic culture and community, neurodiversity, life writing and gender. Betsy is also an artist. Her creative work can be found in Mulberry Literary, Anti-Heroin Chic, and Samjoko Magazine, among various other places. She is an active contributor to the Stimpunks Foundation, where she channels her passion for neurodiversity through painting and writing.
