Am I Acting Weird?
Tumblr media
Walking home, I just can't shake the feeling that something is off, but I can't figure out what! I asked Coach about it before leaving practice, but he just laughed. He said I was weird not to appreciate the effort I've put into football lately.
He's right. I've been busting my ass, but that's exactly what I'm talking about!
I've never given a damn about improving my rank or even showing up to conditioning! I just wanted to hang out with my buds and mess around with the cheerleaders.
But now, it's like none of that matters! I've skipped the last three parties to bulk up at the gym! I haven't been able to drink anything other than protein shakes, and my meals are always loaded with meat. It's like I can't control myself anymore! Why can't I just take a night off and drink beers with the rest of the boys?
I let out a long groan of frustration and trudge upstairs. My younger sibling Max laying on the couch while the TV blares his favorite show.
Max is the weird one! He's like 18, and all he does is play videogames and sit around all day.
I quickly strip off my sweaty football uniform and toss it into the corner of my bedroom. My muscles are already tired and aching from yesterday's practice, so I can't imagine how sore I'll be feeling when I wake up for tomorrow's early morning workout; something I only recently started doing everyday.
Tumblr media
Like every other night, I pull my usual at-home clothes on; a stiff white shirt, black apron, and bowtie. This outfit might seem weird, but it feels nice, especially when I tie everything up extra tight. Max showed me how. Sure, it's not comfortable at all, and I look like a waiter more than anything, but that doesn't bother me.
My little brother is annoying as hell, but he's usually right. Me and dad used to tease him all the time, but we've come around since then.
Now that I'm finally at home and suited up, I can feel my shoulders relax. Whatever was bothering me before can wait. I pull some shiny black shoes on, slip a pair of white gloves over my hands, and carefully step back downstairs. It's important that I make as little noise as possible when I'm home. I wouldn't want to disturb anybody.
Tumblr media
"Hey, big bro," Max calls from the couch, "Your home."
"Yes, Max," I answer, taking my usual position next to the couch.
This is where I stand when I'm in the living room anymore. It's just where I feel most comfortable, and it's right next to a little cart of useful supplies. I grab a towel and sling it over my shoulder. It's always a good idea to have one on me when I'm at home. Never know when I'm going to need it.
"My shoes could use a polish while we chat," Max adds, flipping through the channels.
"You got it, Max."
See, the towel does come in handy. I quickly fetch a container of shoe polish on my little cart and kneel by his feet. I've been polishing Max's shoes for a few weeks now, so I've gotten pretty good at it. He doesn't really appreciate the art of it, but I guess it's just something that I'm into.
"How's football? You the best player yet?" Max asks nonchalantly from above.
"No, Max. I've gotten a lot bigger lately, but the quarterback is still a lot more muscular and skilled."
He rolls his eyes and adds, "Give it time I guess. You're going to keep at it until your a professional player like the ones on TV."
I stop buffing his sneaker for a second and glance up at him. His attention is now completely fixated on an NFL videogame.
"Max, that's just it," I admit, "Lately I've been working out and bulking up like I'm some pro-athlete, but I'm not. I don't think I even want to be! That life just seems so grueling."
Max pauses his game and looks down at me solemnly.
I avert my gaze and add, "It's just weird that lately I've put so much work into something I don't want."
"You think that's weird?" he dryly raises an eyebrow.
I just shake my head and turn my attention back to my brother's sneaker. It's going to need a lot more polish before it shines.
The door opens and our father arrives home.
Tumblr media
"Hey, boy," he dismissively calls when he sees me on the floor. Then he notices my brother lounging on the couch.
"Max," he says with a bit more emphasis, dipping his head a little.
"Dad, I'm really hungry right now, so could you get a move on with dinner?" Max answers.
"Of course, Max."
Our father immediately drops his keys and briefcase and shuffles into the kitchen. I've always admired him. He played football in college too, so we've always bonded over sports.
But lately, he only seems interested in his work. I rarely see him because he always stays late and picks up night shifts at the office. It's done wonders for his career, so I guess that's good. He's been given a few raises recently for all the extra effort he's put in, but I can tell it's taking a bit of a toll on the guy.
"Big bro, just look at Dad," Max explains to me, "He doesn't complain about anything being weird, does he? He just keeps his mouth shut and goes to work. Be more like him."
I don't speak as I switch to shining his other sneaker. Max is probably right. If Dad can power through long hours in the office to bring home a decent salary, then I can surely shut up and dedicate myself to a career in football.
It doesn't take long for our father to return to the living room.
Tumblr media
"The food is almost ready, but here are some drinks while you wait, Max," he says.
Our dad seems minorly annoyed by the starched clothing he has on, but that suit is his typical home outfit. It looks even more stiff and uncomfortable than my get up, but I guess he's willing to put up with it.
Max stands before I can finish at his feet and grabs a glass from our father.
"Whoops, here you can finish them," he says after a swig of wine, kicking the shoes off in my direction, "And then take care of the laundry in my room."
"Sure thing, Max," I answer, but he's already turned his attention to dad.
"Is your wallet in your briefcase?" he asks, "I'm taking a few friends out tonight."
"It is, Max, and the car keys are next to it. The car is low on gas. Should I take it to a station before you go out?"
"Yeah," Max adds between sips, "Take care of that while I eat."
"Of course, Max."
"Oh, and Dad."
"Yes, Max?"
"Start making double portions for big bro's meals. He needs to bulk up faster if he's going to usurp the current quarterback."
I pretend not to hear, and finish up my work with Max's shoes. Maybe my new focus on football hasn't been that strange after all. It's not really the life I thought I'd be pursuing, but it's kind of nice being bigger and more athletic than I used to be. It's not really weird if I think about it. Maybe I can even get a few more reps in after I finish Max's laundry.
I hope he has a good time out with his friends tonight. It's weird, but I don't really know what else I'd spend my time doing.

the one exception to the general rule that sports should be coed is american football. male nipple torture is foundational to the modern NFL. i'm not saying girls aren't capable of the rest of the sport, but suspending up to two pounds of hanging weights from your dime-sized nipples while shivering and crying stripped to the waist in a meat locker while your teammates watch you get hard and call you a faggot and laugh at your pendulous and swollen teats, well, that's just something men naturally perform at better than women

hi! hope you’re doing good, could you write something like justin going on a podcast (kinda like call her daddy) and talks about his personal life with reader (maybe they’re married?)
Nobody expected Justin to talk about his love life. Especially on a podcast, but since his friend Andre was talking about how hard marriage was for him in a very vulnerable tone, Jack the interviewer asked for his opinion.
"We know you have been married for...four years now?" he said, asking for clarification. "Yeah, we are five years in March" he clarified, a little too quickly. "So do you agree with this stance?"
"I mean, I think marriage is as hard as you and your partner make it" he said "My wife and I get along great. We're friends before deciding for the next step so that definitely helped.
"Even with your job? I mean the NFL is hard. Moving around a lot"
"Well, I think we managed to establish a dynamic that worked for both of us. It was a mutual agreement." The topic was left at that point, as the attention returned to Andre and his relationship. When Jack asked Justin what he admired most about his wife, Justin smiled a bit shyly and said, "Her resilience. She has gone through difficult events since she was young and has always been a wonderful woman. It's something I admire a lot about her." When asked what bothered him, he was straightforward, "She sheds a lot of hair, leaves hair everywhere. It's crazy." Everyone laughed.
Then came the quick questions. "Is there something you find strange about your partner?" Justin smiled as if remembering something funny. "She loves mustard, and I mean, everyone has their tastes, but she uses it on everything: bread, chips, vegetables, meat. Sometimes I watch her and think, 'Is that really necessary?' and she looks back at me and says, 'This is essential, you wouldn't understand,' and yes, I don't understand."
"Something you find endearing? When she doesn’t understand something, she tilts her head like a dog. At first, I thought she was doing it on purpose, like to look cute, but she genuinely does it when she doesn’t understand something."
The last question was about love. "Do you feel loved?" he asked both men. Justin was the first to respond. "Yes, absolutely. She has given me all her support and love since we were friends. I don't think I would be in the NFL if it weren't for her, you know? I feel…" he hesitated for a few seconds, but his eyes grew a bit teary, "so grateful. I don't know, she makes me a better person in every way." You could hear the love reflected in his voice.

I know you’re already aware but just wanted to confirm that it is pretty much nailed on that meat head will be at the London shows this week, especially as the tickets for the 3 NFL games that are over here in October all go on sale this week so it’s basically free promo for the league.
🎯
Thank you for the additional information.

Miles Klee at Rolling Stone:
YOU CAN’T PLEASE all the people all of the time — even if you’re as popular as Taylor Swift. Having attained a somehow higher level of mega-celebrity with her record-breaking Eras Tour and a closely followed romance with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs (who are headed back to the Super Bowl as the defending NFL champs), the singer now faces the perplexing wrath of MAGA conspiracy theorists who have decided the league and the relationship are rigged to help Joe Biden’s chances in the 2024 presidential election. The premise is as disconnected from reality as it sounds, but it’s all the stranger given that this courtship between a pop icon and football star — both white, Christian, good-looking, wholesome public figures — should fit the all-American conservative ideal. And Swift herself long retained her mass appeal with a mostly apolitical presence on the world stage, only voicing liberal positions and endorsing a select few Democrats from 2018 onward. But it was, in part, this late entry into civic discourse that allowed right-wingers to sell themselves a narrative of Swift as a propaganda puppet, after years in which some ardently worshiped her as a blonde, blue-eyed avatar for white supremacy. Here’s the complete timeline of how the far right fell in, and out of, love with Taylor Swift.
Pre-2016: Country Roots
Swift came up in the Nashville scene, from the age of 14, as a country singer-songwriter inspired by the likes of Dolly Parton and Shania Twain. Her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” alluded to her love of another country legend — and her early hits climbed the genre’s charts along with heartland tunes full of cowboy twang and pickup trucks. Whatever the identities of individual performers, this music has always been conservative-coded, and its biggest names have rarely shied away from an aggressive style of red-meat patriotism. Swift, of course, was a teenager singing about innocent young love: She only happened to suit the fantasy of a small-town girl next door that informs so much Americana. (And she certainly didn’t have Parental Advisory stickers on her CDs.) It was when she started to drift from these roots on Red (2012), and fully embraced electronic pop with 1989 (2014), that fans could begin to think of her as totally distinct from the traditionalist milieu of her early career. The latter’s “Welcome to New York” signaled a new, cosmopolitan life far from the backroads of country radio. In fact, a civilian Donald Trump was blasting the album’s second single, “Blank Space,” while driving around with wife Melania and son Barron, as seen in a 2014 video Melania shared on her Facebook page [...]
The ascendant alt-right, shitposters by nature, saw a chance to disingenuously claim Swift for their own, as both a secret Trump supporter and neo-Nazi. (It didn’t seem to matter that she had previously expressed her happiness at Barack Obama taking the White House in 2008, her first election.) The attempt to rebrand her had older, murky origins, including 4chan in-jokes and a Pinterest user who in 2013 went viral for images falsely attributing Hitler quotes to Swift, but picked up steam as Trump did. Andrew Anglin, founder of the white supremacist website the Daily Stormer, declared her an “aryan goddess,” while Milo Yiannopoulos, in a column for Breitbart, explained why she was an “alt-right pop icon,” noting her whiteness, blondeness, unrevealing clothes, lack of piercings, and occasional mini-scandals over music videos accused of racist undertones. It probably didn’t help that Swift endorsed neither Hillary Clinton nor Trump, leaving room for misinformation about how she secretly voted for the GOP candidate. Following Trump’s victory, some Democrats vented their frustration at Swift’s silence during the campaign, believing she could have moved the needle for Clinton. [...]
In the following months, the #MeToo movement shed light on how often sexual misconduct is dismissed or covered up to the perpetrator’s benefit, and Swift became one of the founding signatories of Time’s Up, an advocacy group for survivors, and donated to its legal defense fund.  None of this was likely to endear Swift to conservatives who had already begun to argue that #MeToo had “gone too far,” yet she continued to press the issue, gracing the cover of Time’s Person of the Year issue along with fellow “silence breakers.” And the next year, she finally waded into electoral politics, sharing on Instagram that she would be backing Democratic congressional candidates in Tennessee for the 2018 midterms. [...]
2019-2020: The Activist
By 2019, Swift’s politics were no mystery. She was openly in favor of gun-control reform, took a pro-choice stance against government attempts to crack down on abortion, gave a surprise performance at New York’s Stonewall Inn for that year’s Pride celebration, and urged the senate to pass anti-discrimination laws. Any far-right fan clinging to the notion that she harbored extremist views would’ve been in clinical denial. For the most part, conservative commentators got in the habit of attacking her as they would any other liberal entertainer with a massive platform. Ben Shapiro, for one, complained of her “abrupt and obviously pandering shift into a political wokescold.”    At last, Swift also formally denounced any admiration from the racist far right in a cover story interview with Rolling Stone. “There’s literally nothing worse than white supremacy,” she said. “It’s repulsive. There should be no place for it.” She explained that she feared a 2016 endorsement of Hillary Clinton could have backfired, since Clinton’s celebrity support was “used against her in a lot of ways.” As for conservatives who had once assumed she was on their side, she quipped, “I don’t think they do anymore.” [...]
2021-2024: Taylor Derangement Syndrome
The “aryan goddess” interpretation of Swift had been more or less put to bed by the time Biden assumed office. But the reorganizing MAGA right had little reason to single her out among the legions of professional entertainers who express their distaste for Trump here and there. She didn’t endorse candidates in the 2022 midterms, either, though she did communicate her dismay at the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Conservatives who bothered to take a swipe at her tended toward lazy outrage bait: calling her boring, overrated, or a lonely cat lady (mind you, she was in a long-term relationship with actor Joe Alwyn that was heavily covered by the tabloids). In 2021, Swift embarked on the formidable project of rerecording her first six studio albums after the rights to that catalog were sold to a company run by controversial music mogul Scooter Braun, and released the hit record Midnights in 2022.
It was in 2023 that American conservatism launched into an enduring freakout about Swift, her cultural dominance, and her potential influence on voters. Anyone dimly aware of the Eras Tour — an unprecedented run of sold-out stadium shows — could see she had reached another pinnacle of success, and amassed a near-cultish audience of millions who hung on her every utterance. We got plenty of think pieces on whether this was a good or bad phenomenon, with varied musings on how Swift had created her own monoculture. The sheer saturation of Taylor content was enough to irk those less disposed to her vibe — and there were gripes about that, too.
[...] The release of The Tortured Poets Departmentlast Friday, April 19, inevitably (and unfortunately) brought a new round of grousing. Sean Feucht,  the far-right “MAGA Pastor,” raised the alarm on social media, saying “half the songs” on the album “contain explicit lyrics (E), make fun of Christians, and straight up blaspheme God.” And lest you think he’s “just being religious & overreacting,” Feucht shared several apparently offending lyrics that certainly dabble in classic religious imagery, but in the most basic, writerly way imaginable. Among the most harrowing lines, to Feucht: “I would’ve died for your sins, instead I just died inside” (from “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”); “What If I roll the stone away / They’re gonna crucify me anyway” (“Guilty as Sin”); and “God save the most judgmental creeps / Who say they want what’s best for me / Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see,” from “But Daddy I Love Him,” which definitely seems more critical of Swift’s own fans than an entire religion.  And, of course, Shapiro got back in on the action as well with a YouTube video dubbed, “Taylor Swift’s New Album Is GARBAGE” and nuanced opinions like, “Can we stop pretending she’s high art?” and, “She’s so tortured that she’s worth billions of dollars for singing songs that are most appropriately sung by 16 and 17 year old girls.”
Rolling Stone has an in-depth report on the timeline of Taylor Swift's career that led to the eventual right-wing sour grapes-fueled culture war against her, especially in the last few years or so.

𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐁𝐈𝐍 𝑻𝑶𝑴 𝑷𝑬𝑺𝑻𝑶𝑪𝑲
ever since he was young, tom fit seamlessly into the athlete mold; from college ball to the nfl, playing for the indianapolis colts and excelling at golden gloves boxing. despite this, his first few years in wwe were filled with growing pains, and it took quite awhile to find his footing, character-wise. once he found his groove however, he slowly became a superstar people were invested in and perhaps had taken for granted in the past.
away from the ring, tom is a proud dad of two daughters residing in tampa. he's a rather talented cook, specializing in smoking and grilling different cuts of meat to carmelized perfection. he also enjoys cigars, motorcycles, whiskey and coffee, his love of the latter even encouraging him to start his own business. he's industrious, soft-hearted and adventurous, but beware his dad jokes. he's also straight and currently single. feel free to like this or dm me if you'd like to plot with him!

What's your favorite animal to see at the zoo? The only zoo that I've been to that has my all time favorite animal to see is the Tampa zoo, I love to see the Manatees, I cry every time. If I'm at a different zoo I like to see their turtles and the amphibians.
What's your go to quick meal to cook/make at home? hot sandwiches. Like with good bread and deli meat and cheese, then pressed.
What's your go to meal to cook someone to impress them? My wife says my chicken parm is really good so I'd probably make that.
What's something you want to do better? Take care of myself in general, form better routines.

If she does ever read these (not speculating but just think about it as an IF) do you think she gets upset by some of these messages? Sometimes I find them very harsh when we don’t actually know what’s going on, we have ideas and conclusions we’ve drawn yes but we don’t know for sure.
I am sure she would find some of them harsh. But honestly I do not post some for that reason. I try to tread between giving people a place to vent respectfully and safe guarding against ones that are too harsh.
You are right that we do not know the details behind the scenes. But it is hard to watch two wealthy successful women cater to the incredibly corrupt Kushners and the privileged NFL meat head.

I’m, at best, a casual sports fan. Some Habs. The Olympics. Maybe the Blue Jays once in a while. So maybe I don’t have the most informed take on this.
But football culture (the North American kind) is like a fucking weird religion.
Damar Hamlin almost died and the NFL wasn’t sure if the game should just continue before it was postponed. And now people are worried about what this means for the playoffs.
But then I remember when Joe Paterno, who refused to act on allegations of sexual abuse against children by Jerry Sandusky, was fired. People rioted because they wanted “JoPa” to finish coaching the season at Penn State.
People will accept throwing bodies into a meat grinder so long as the season can play out as expected.
Abuse in sport isn’t exclusive to football (hockey canada, gymnastics) but there is something that has always bugged me about the importance people put on football.
