I’ll never not mourn that we didn’t get the zenitsu arc that was set up, because I truly believe it would have done wonders for how the fandom views Zenitsu.

It makes me quite angry that he’s dumbed down to nothing more than a pervert and a coward, now. I wouldn’t even go as far to say Zenitsu is a pervert, a coward sure, he even says so himself. But a pervert is someone who purposely creeps on women, tries to feel them up, tries to be a peeping Tom.

Zenitsu does literally none of that, he’s a girl lover/chaser when we meet him, I’ll admit. But he in no way shape or form harasses a woman from the point on where Tanjirou rips him off the woman he’s begging to marry him. After that, he’s very kind to the women he meets, cringe sure, but still polite and respectful,and he’s extremely devoted to Nezuko. Even if she cannot reciprocate, and even then he’s not a fucking creep, he just has a puppy crush on a pretty girl.

So to compare him to someone like, let’s say mineta from MHA, is not only extreme but just plain wrong.

Back to Zenitsu’s cowardice, I think it’s actually pretty cool he’s a coward. We get to see him grow from it, we get to see him learn to be more confident with the support of Tanjirou and Inosuke behind him, the most noticeable moment of this is when he defends the girl that Daki is harming in anger, even if at this point he’s semi aware he’s found the uppermoon, he still steps in front of her and tells her off.

Even during the actual confrontation with Daki, he still tells her she’s wrong, and cruel. And tells her to apologize to the poor girl she hurt.

And Zenitsu is intimately aware of his own flaws, even going as far to say “I hate myself more than anyone else” and listing off that when he’s scared, he freezes or runs. But he also mentions that he’s hurt that Inosuke and Tanjirou just left him at the mountain, he says that if they had tried to coax him, he more than likely would have went. And this claim is 100% supported by the flashbacks we see with Jigoro Kuwajima who was the only character to never give up on Zenitsu and constantly push him to be better and stronger.

If Zenitsu truly wanted to leave the demon slayer corps, he would, now that he’s a full fledged demon slayer and out from under Jigoro’s thumb he had every single opportunity to leave the core and go pursue an actual life outside of it, and yet he doesn’t. Because he wants to make his gramps proud, because he wants to help Tanjirou, because he finds a support system/family with Inosuke and Tanjirou that he’s never had with even Jigoro and Kaigaku.

He’s insecure, he has anxiety, he has anger issues, he wants to honor his mentor and help and protect his friends, he wants to live a happy life, he wants to be respected, he wants to be genuinely loved. He’s so much fucking more than a “pervert” and a coward, but the fandom still sticks to this perception of him because we never got the Zenitsu backstory, I don’t like the term “there’s always a duo in a trio” but at times it really felt like Zenitsu was just kind of there, while Inosuke and Tanjioru continued to get more depth and he didn’t.

He can probably draw a freaking portrait of you with his eyes closed since he's memorized every inch and every part of your beautiful ethereal heavenly features. HIs mind is occupied with thoughts of you as he dreams about the happy and blissful life you both would have with each other after he brings you home with him and marries you

He's also quite the paranoid yandere, his fear of losing you to someone or losing you in a fight against a demon would send his concern and worry for you into overdrive and he feels the need to take you 'home' as in kidnap you, sooner than expected. Whatever do you want to be a Hashira for? There's no need for you to fight against those dangerous demons when he's around to take care of you and protect you. Your safety is of the utmost importance to him and that is something he will NOT compromise on at any cost. He admires your bravery and strength to save people but he doesn't want you facing the risk of you losing your life in the process. At times he might have to even keep you in the dark regarding a few missions but it's all for your own good in his opinion

He's good at masking his true intentions and feelings when he's around you and other people. He might look calm and friendly and collected on the outside when you're speaking to your so called friends but he's SEETHING inside as he has a fake plastered smile on his face. His hand is just ITCHING to slap your friend and throttle them for daring to steal your attention away from him, he feels like they're doing it deliberately just to drive a wedge and distance you from him. Deep down he's slightly worried that your friend might charm you too much and steal you away from him which is something he cannot allow to happen. He might not resort to killing the person off, but the next time there's a demon around the area, Tanjiro might not be able to save your 'friend' in time. Of course you wouldn't know that he's also asked the demon to TARGET your friend but that's a different story altogether. The only person he trusts to be around you is Nezuko

His love for you is like a passionate growing flame and your every touch is like a drug he can't get enough of. He needs you, he wants you. He needs you in a way like a drowning man needing air, he feels like he wouldn't be able to live without you. His family was killed by Muzan and he can't afford to let you fall in danger as well, he can't lose you. You're his world, the light of his life, his SOULMATE. His feelings for you would just keep getting worse and worse and finally it would lead to him ending up kidnapping you at some point in the night when you're asleep in your house. You'll wake up in Tanjiro's house on a bed with Nezuko looking at you with a curious look as she lets out a happy noise that you're awake and she'll alert her brother. "Oh, good morning darling, how did you sleep?" asked Tanjiro as you stared at him and blinked in disbelief, unable to comprehend what the hell was even going on at the moment. When you asked Tanjiro what was going on, he just let out a soft smile and told you the truth of how he took you in the night for himself and how he was going to protect you. Please don't scream or cry, he'll feel sad and he feels a sharp pang of hurt in his chest to see you upset. He doesn't like seeing you sad. He knows it's a big change and you'll need some time to adjust, he's understanding and willing to let you take as much time as you need to adjust to your new life and your new home with him and his sister. But one thing is for sure, he does NOT feel guilty at all, not even a single ounce of remorse because the way he sees it, he's keeping you safe. He's protecting you, that's what he tells himself every time and that opinion of his clouded his sense of rationality. Is it so wrong to protect someone you love?

There's no point in escaping from him, he'll just track you down and bring you back to the house. Scream, cry and insult him as much as you want, he'll just put you down on the couch and check you for injuries. He feels like the reason you ran away from him is because you didn't feel loved enough from him and he didn't shower you with love before but don't worry, he'll smother you with his affection now and cling to you like moss below a rock you'll barely have any time for yourself. Nezuko might like your head pats and likes hugging you but she wants her brother to be happy too which is why she'll side with him no matter what and prevent any means of you escaping from them. She likes it when you braid her hair and Tanjiro has a soft smile when he sees you and his sister interact with each other which is an adorable scene in his eyes

You're not to step into the kitchen for cooking either, the house is most probably baby proofed as well. He just doesn't want you getting hurt, the kitchen is a dangerous place, he doesn't want you cutting yourself accidentally with one of those sharp knives or burning yourself with the stove. He'll cook for you instead, you don't need to lift a finger when you're with him. Just let him take care of you and spoil you

Rewatching KNY and seeing Zenitsu again is almost giving me whiplash, because he went from being one of my least favorite characters to one of my most beloved in a flash. It sucks that his defining moments are so frequently interrupted or otherwise disturbed by his obsession with finding a wife, and that it kept me from analyzing him the way I should’ve been doing at the start. Because, at his core, Zenitsu is a lesson on weakness — on learning to live and adapt when you can’t immediately overcome it.

This is evident from his very first appearance, where he’s shown mumbling about his inevitable death and his fear of demons after surviving final selection as one of the five senses (the hearing to Kanao’s sight, Tanjiro’s smell, Inosuke’s touch, and Genya’s taste.) It continues on in his actual introduction in the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc, where he spends the majority of his time crying or in various other states of terror. The two exceptions to this are when he falls asleep for the first time and when he defends Nezuko’s box from Inosuke.

The former is part of a larger discussion on his sleepwalking habit and its impact as a coping mechanism, so I’ll be talking about the latter;

Zenitsu outright says that he has a habit of trusting the wrong people, and that being able to hear their sounds hasn’t done him any good in remedying that. He’s known Tanjiro for maybe a handful of hours at this point, but he throws himself on Nezuko’s box anyway. Not because he likes her (not yet) but because she matters to someone he wants to believe in. For someone who clearly hates being in pain, that says volumes about who he actually is as a person. He might be a coward, but he’s also loyal and self sacrificing.

He earnestly follows behind the people he cares about even when it might get him into trouble. The fact that he’s a demon slayer at all is evidence of that — a testament to his love for Jigoro for believing in him and continuing to believe in him even when he seemed hopeless or tried to run away. There was nothing keeping him attached to the demon slayer corps after his gramps wasn’t there to drag him to the final selection or his missions (and we know from Aoi that he could definitely retire early) but he stays.

He runs and cowers and cries and he keeps moving forward, because his gramps gave him the courage to try again and again after failure;

This, I believe, is the reason behind his sleepwalking habit. It’s a response to his desire to change and grow as a person, manifesting in an unconscious state where he forces himself to shed his terror and pain so that he can actually work at his full potential. It doesn’t just apply to his body either, given that (as the series goes on) his sleepwalking also allows him to access his natural analytical abilities where his panic might have blinded him. He couldn’t get rid of the weakness that hindered him, so he adapted to it;

And then — when he learned what became of Kaigaku and that their shared mentor had given his life in repentance — he finally overcame his cowardice altogether and stopped sleeping;

He beat Kaigaku entirely awake, and he fought Muzan the same way. Being with Jigoro and Tanjiro and Nezuko and Inosuke and everyone else didn’t rid him of his fear, but it did teach him to adapt to and then overcome it. To push it aside to achieve his goals, protecting the people he cares about as more than the human shield he was when he held onto Nezuko’s box and desperately hoped that his body could withstand Inosuke’s abuse. More than that, they also taught him to be more comfortable in his own skin.

I’m not going to say that Zenitsu can’t be an annoying character — I can’t stand his behavior toward women and rather disliked him for the longest time — but he’s much more interesting than his initial impression would have you believe. He’s loyal, protective, self sacrificing, insecure, and surprisingly taciturn when he wants to be. The fact that he sleepwalks for every battle before the final arc and his resolution with Kaigaku really hammers his character themes home, and I find that he’s genuinely interesting to think about!

top 5 nezuko moments (in no particular order)

1- fixing her kimono

a simple scene but a great indicator of who nezuko is as a person. she loves her family dearly and would put their needs before hers and she will do so with grace and lightheartedness

2- The entertainment district arc speech

nezuko is truly the medicine to tanjiro's overly self-blaming nature. a core quality of tanjiro is his responsibility and love he wants to create a better life for his family but this earnest need of his is also his downfall. he perceives any type of hardship that faces his loved ones as a personal failure he becoming very apologetic and self-critical. that's where nezuko comes in constantly reminding him that it is impossible to control every aspect of our lives and that facing hardships is a part of living and that tanjiro should not see this as a personal failure or a shortcoming on his part (just like she does in the LN in he Flower of Happiness)

3- Her fight with hantengu

seeing nezuko fight for so long in the ssv arc was a delight in itself but this particular scene is especially good. it shows the side of her that is violent and a bit unhinged. tanjiro has this side too you can gleam it when he goes beyond his physical boundaries to fight demons (like in the red light district) but with nezuko it is clearer, the willingness to harm herself if it means hurting them

4- her sacrifice

this is the moment that made me love her, a moment of absolute resolution and heroism and the way she made sure to smile to sooth tanjiro in her last moments to let him know that this was completely her decision and she doesn't regret it. she is the one that was dying and she still tried her best to ease the moment for her brother

5- jumping in to stop tanjiro

I talked about this before and I will talk about it again. nezuko's unwavering belief in her brother is what breaks the curse and brings their journey to the end she loved him and bet on him no matter what and that love brought peace to the world. she is every bit of brave and loving

Relationship Headcannons with my Favorite Boyyo

Tanjiro

It would take a long ass time for you two to get together

You for sure caught feelings first

You first met while you were training at the Butterfly mansion. You were only one of the assistants at the mansion but desperately wanted to become a more important part of the core.

You had training in secret on your own, afraid that Shinobou found you doing so, she’d reject your request.

This is where Tanjiro found you. As he was recovering at the mansion he would watch you in secret, admiring your grit and progress.

Finally he decided to surprise and compliment you.

Now, Tanjiro popping out from behind a tree seemed like a good idea in his mind- but it was a horrific experience for you

As soon as he popped out, he was punched square in the nose. You soon realized you just punched a demon slayer and began to profusely apologize.

You begged him to forgive you and tell no one in the mansion of what you had been doing. Tanjiro grew confused and you explained the situation.

“I’m sure Miss Shinobou would let you train to become a Slayer!”

“I can’t risk it yet. Until then, I’ll continue training on my own.”

“Please allow me to train with you Miss Y/n!”

From then on, Tanjiro trained with you. Throughout your training together, you developed feelings for the redhead boy, admiring his strength and perseverance. You even got to get close to Nezuko!

Now, Tanjiro started developing feelings as well, but he didn’t exactly understand what they were. As far as he knew, he just admired you. A lot.

He didn’t realize his feelings until the entertainment district.

You were one of the only female core members who actually volunteered to go with Tengen, (despite Tanjiro’s protests).

Throughout the mission itself, you didn’t interact much due to you being bought by the same house as Zenitzu.

His feelings became realized in the final battle between the horrid demon siblings.

“TANJIRO!”

Tanjiro was awoken by the sound of your voice. He was surrounded by the burning remnants of the small town. His head and vision was fuzzy. Nezuko!, he thought. He felt around best he could with his beaten body. He let out a relieved breath as he felt the small and unharmed box that lay next to him.

Wait- y/n! He grew panicked once more when he was unable to see your body in the rubble. Where were you? He hadn’t see you since the explosion. Did you escape before it happened? Were you under the rubble? Had you…

No. You’re far too quick to have been killed by an explosion.

Keep it out of your mind Tanjiro.

“Well, well,” Gyturora laughed as he approached the bleeding boy. “You’re still alive?”

“I feel sorry for you. Everyone but you is probably done for.

A single thrust to that boar’s heart. That towheaded boy’s trapped under the rubble, and he’s flailing, so I’m just going to leave him there until he dies. Squirming like an insect… How disgraceful is that!

And how weak was that Hashira! All he had was bluster! The poison got to him, stopping his heart, and now he’s dead! It’s all over for him!

So disgraceful! So disgraceful! You four are truly disgraceful! Especially you! You’re in another league!”

The demon looked at the small box.

“The one sticking out of that box you carry is a relative, right? I can tell that she’s closely related to you even if she’s a demon now. Is she your older or younger sister?”

Tanjiro feels a tinge of anger at the teasing.

“Nezuko, is my younger sister,” he panted out.

The demon cackled. “Just as I thought! You really are a disgrace! You’re not protecting your little sister at all!” He kneeled down in front of Tanjiro. “Well, I guess it can’t be helped. Since you’re a human and your sister’s a demon.

Of course you’re weaker than your demon sister. Even so, what a disgrace!

If you’re her big bro…”

He grabbed Tanjiro’s hand. “…instead of being protected by your little sister, you should be protecting her. Devotedly. With this hand, see?”

Gyturora snapped Tanjiro’s pointer and middle finger with ease.

Tanjiro let out a grunt of pain, making the demon cackle with malicious enjoyment.

“Stop it!”

Both froze at the sound.

No, not now. God, Y/n. Please.

Tanjiro watched as you stumbled forward. Your side was bleeding, and a bits and pieces of wood were stuck in your face.

“Stop saying those things!” You coughed, splatters of blood falling from your lips. “How dare you say some things about him when you know nothing! Tanjiro is a wonderful brother! He’d do anything for Nezuko!”

Tanjiro stared at you as you spoke. He felt his heart grow full despite his pain.

“Keep your tongue behind your lips and stop talking about him in such a way, you disgrace of a demon!”

The demon in question began to laugh, scratching at his face.

“The Hashira isn’t the only one with beautiful lovers, is he?” He growled as blood dripped from his face. “Lucky, lucky guy.”

“Ugh, brother just let me kill her,” Daki whined, rolling her eyes from her place on one of the piles of rubble. “And kill him.”

“You’re head will drop from your body before you touch him!” you yelled, your eyes burning in a way Tanjiro had never seen before. “I won’t let you-“ You were cut off by Gyturora’s sickle burying itself into your stomach.

“Y/N!” Tanjiro yelled as you let out a gasp and collapsed to the ground.

After the fight- you woke back in the butterfly mansion, with Tanjiro and Nezuko by your side.

As soon as they noticed you had awoken, Nezuko started crying and gave you a big hug.

Tanjiro just smiled at you with tears in his eyes. You looked at him.

Then the rest was history

Now don’t get it wrong, it still took years for both of you to confess.

He did so first, after he came back from an especially difficult mission. As soon as he returned, he was greeted with a warm hug from yourself.

He returned it, burying his face in your neck and taking in your scent. He held you tightly, afraid to let go.

“I love you.”

That was all you needed. You of course returned his love.

Dating Tanjiro is bliss

He dates with the intention of marriage. Ever since he realized how much he loves you, he’s been fantasizing of marrying you and starting a family of his own.

You don’t mind though, he is pure husband material.

He will cook for you and constantly is bringing you little gifts. He is usually pretty good with impulse control but if he sees something that reminds him of you, he will buy it.

There is never a day that goes by where he doesn’t remind you that he loves you and why. You often start your morning with him staring at you as if he’s falling in love all over again.

I’m bed- he’s always very gentle. He does believe that sex should happen within the confines of marriage and so he insists on waiting until then.

He always wants to focus on your body’s needs above his own. Your pleasure comes first

He’s also very quiet in bed, he’ll groan and grunt occasionally but the most noise he usually makes is praise for you

Marry him.

Nezuko Kamado ~

A post about the lead actor's feelings on the Kimetsu no Yaiba Noh/Kyogen stage adaptation:

To try to increase my karma for getting KnY Noh tickets, I went to a Noh performance and interview with Ohtsuki Yuichi, the actor who performs the roles of both Tanjiro and Nezuko. He was also one of the people responsible for seeing the potential for performing KnY as Noh. As he described in the interview, both KnY and Noh are trying to express the same things.

This was brought up in the later half of the on-stage interview. To give more background, the society surrounding Noh theater knows its roots, and is pretty dedicated in preserving traditions, like family lines dedicated to playing a certain kind of role in a certain school of how to stage the plays. Yuichi grew up surrounded by Noh, and although he was born into a different Noh performing family, he became the apprentice of Ohtsuki Bunzo (a living national treasure), hence why Yuichi has taken up the Ohtsuki legacy. Bunzo is a very influential figure and has dedicated a lot of work to revitalizing plays nearly lost to time, and he's a tough act to follow.

So when the topic of "new Noh" came up in the interview, Yuichi's very calm and experienced interview demeanor started to seem, at least to me, a little more hesitant. The lady interviewing him, a veteran reporter in the world of traditional performing arts, did not seem intimately familiar with Kimetsu no Yaiba. The vast majority of the audience was much older than Yuichi, and many of them were dressed in kimono. (I stuck out in that crowd as the only obviously foreign face.)

Yuichi explained what he usually explains about KnY and Noh, especially the themes with demons and building sympathy for them. The surface level similarities, like a mountain of spider demons, did not matter as much in seeing the potential for adaptation.

Unlike the audiences at the stagings of plays from the usual Noh repertoire, the vast majority of audience members at the KnY performances had never seen Noh before. They went to see a Noh performance because they were KnY fans, not because they had any previous interest in Noh. With a bit of a laugh in his voice, Yuichi (who had just been talking about the heavy sense of audience anticipation right before some famous plays begin) said nothing could compare to the tenseness before those performances, because nobody in the audience even knew what to expect. Still, he finds it gratifying how it has brought so many more people into the world of Noh, especially young people.

The discussion of this "new Noh" wrapped up very nicely with a reminder that five centuries ago the tales of Heike and Genji were super popular and drew crowds, so maybe someday "Kimetsu no Yaiba" will be considered a classic piece of Noh canon.

Before that, though, there was a part when Yuichi sped up little by little as he got more animated recalling a little anecdote.

You see, he explained go the interviewer, the world of KnY is actually very complex. There are, like, whole encyclopedias (the fanbooks) with information about the characters, like their birthdays, their hobbies, favorite foods, etc.

He then goes on to say how they did a week of performances in Tokyo last December (frustratingly, I did not manage to get a ticket). One of those performances happened to fall on December 28, which is Kamado Nezuko's birthday.

The whole audience--everywhere--there were so many Nezukos. Nezukos everywhere. People cosplay and come to watch Noh. Everyone was cosplaying Nezuko that day, because the fans know these things. There were so many Nezukos.

He did not make his point that eloquently, but he sure made his point. I don't know if he was a truly shook by anime fandom since he's always been deep in Noh fandom instead or if he was nervous about what the core fans of traditional Noh thought about it, or maybe that was just his excitement for KnY and that project coming through.

I, in any case, am still super excited to hopefully, hopefully, hopefully see the continuation. Aside from seeing Yuichi reprise his roles, Bunzo is playing Gyutaro and I really, really want to see that mask.

"Aniue, I will become a hashira.."

Summary: Shinazugawa brothers "eye scene" with the Rengoku brothers

Warnings(?): Attempted eye injury(?), Rengoku brother angst, S4 KNY Spoilers!

"I even went as far.. as to eat demons..! To keep fighting..!" Senjuro yelled out, desperate for Kyojuro to acknowledge him, to at least give him some hope. All of this hard work, all of his training, wasn't for nothing. At least, that's what Senjuro hoped.

When Kyojuro froze in his tracks, Senjuro perked up, hoping that maybe, just maybe, his older brother would acknowledge him again! However, Senjuro wasn't aware of the inner turmoil in Kyojuro's head.

Senjuro? Sweet Senjuro eating DEMONS? How? In what world was that even possible?! Kyojuro's sweet baby brother, who was fortunate enough to be born talentless, to have a chance at a normal life, was EATING DEMONS?! That alone shook Kyojuro to his core. No. He couldn't accept this. He wouldn't accept this! How dare his sweet baby brother find a way into the corps!

Kyojuro saw how hopeful Senjuro was, how his expression morphed into a fearful confusion as a scowl found its way onto Kyojuro's face. "You what?" Kyojuro hissed, staring at Senjuro as the younger boy shrunk underneath his cold and harsh gaze. It tugged at his heartstrings, but it was the only way for Kyojuro to protect Senjuro! To get him to leave the corps!

"I.. I ate d-demons.. Aniue..!" Senjuro replied, but that only worsened the ever growing tension as Kyojuro's expression held rage. A burning rage that boiled up like an inferno. Senjuro sensed how his brother's demeanor changed so fast, his eyes widening as with a fast speed Kyojuro had appeared right in front of him.

Senjuro would have been blinded had it not been for Nezuko tackling him out of the way. The force and speed were enough for a small cut to graze Senjuro's face as he fell into the other room as Kyojuro stumbled forward.

Kyojuro, his own older brother, the one Senjuro admired so much, had tried to BLIND him. It shook Senjuro, worsening his already growing self-hatred and depressive thoughts that had begun thanks to their father.

Why?

Why did Kyojuro refuse to acknowledge Senjuro?

Why did it sting even worse when he saw the rage in his older brothers eyes as he glared down at him and Nezuko?

Would he ever get to be able to talk to his brother properly ever again?
