Back at it with another Ghosts tarot card—this one is Hetty as The High Priestess!
Tumblr media
This card is so much about reconciling one’s inner and outer selves, and learning how to effectively express that internal world; one of the things that really fascinates me about Hetty is that she has such a carefully curated Public Persona (largely thanks to her era/class), but also has such a rich interior life with these withdrawn spells where she just stares out of windows contemplatively for hours at a time, which is what really made me see her as this card. I hope that we get to keep seeing her break down the boundaries between these different sides of herself going forward.
The original Pamela Colman Smith tarot card my design is based on can be seen here, and you can see the first Ghosts card I drew, Flower, here in my Ghosts Tarot tag.

Unfinished business is a tricky thing in this show, because I am not entirely sure it is how all the ghosts will "get sucked off"
Sass, Bjorn and Alberta all finished what was pretty heavily set up to be their unfinished business. Sass became a story teller for the main 8. Bjorn discovered what happened to his father, and has even met and started a relationship with Thor. Alberta has been proven to have been murdered and solved who did it. Yet all of them are still here.
Isaac with Flower have also had things happen that could be argued were maybe part of their unfinished business. Flower learned that Ira used the money they stole to start a charitable business, that he named after her. Sam published Isaac's biography, and he is now more known to history. But given that Flower and Issac have less singular wants I can believe they had more to their agenda's.
Let's diverge from "unfinished business" to talk about the ghosts who have been "sucked off"/ "went down on the group".
Sam's mom went up when she felt like her daughter had a plan for the rest of her life, and would be fine without her. The thing is though is season 3 we got introduced to this show's concept of poltergeist (A ghost bound to a person instead of their death place), and if Sam was her reason for staying she really should have become a poltergeist. I mean what could she have done for Sam while sitting at a truck stop restaurant several states away from where Sam has chosen to spend her adult life.
Ralph, who died as a teen, was sucked off after making out with his first ever girlfriend (who did not get to go with him, but she had dated other guys before) and pronouncing this the happiest moment of his existence. We could also make the case that finally knowing Sam was set was Sheryl's happiest moment.
But is cannot be happiest moments for every ghost. Because then Alberta should have gotten "sucked off", either at her songs trending or hearing her great niece sing for her. Pete also has had moments: walking his daughter down the aisle, and his weekend beach fling with Donna. They are both still here.
Elias is a curious case not just because he "went down on us". But also the reason: he failed to/refused to learn a lesson when he shouted out "There is no such thing as good and evil. I will never change". On the flip of that Thor and Hetty might not have believed in good and evil when alive, and both acted terribly. But since death they have made many positive changes as people, and are still here.
So we have three possible ways for the ghosts to get sucked off "unfinished business", "Moment of pure happiness", "learning an important lesson they failed to in life". With these in mind I can make guesses on four of the ghosts.
Trevor: Unfinished business/power center. Power center's have not been mentioned in the show yet, but they are objects formerly belonging to the deceased that either they need to find again, or a living person needs to destroy (which one generally depends on if the ghost is peaceful or vengeful) for the ghost to move on. Just before Trevor died he went and gave his friend...Pinkus??? bottoms and cash to get home safe. People like to focus on Trevor giving Pinkus his pants. I want to talk about Trevor giving him a role of cash that he had in a fancy money clip. Trevor told Pinkus to give him back the clip at work the next day, and Pinkus agreed. But Trevor died that night and as far as we know Pinkus still has the clip. I think the reason Trevor has the power to touch objects is that he still needs to see that Pinkus (heslthy and safe) after that night, and get the money clip back. That if Pinkus brings the clip to the mansion and like sets it down somewhere, says "Thanks for helping me bro", then after he walks away Trevor picks the clip up and says "Your welcome bro. Glad you made it home safe." then that will cause him to be sucked off.
Hetty: Unfinished business. At first I thought Hetty might be attached to her family's manor, and that if it burned down or got sold, and she let it go, then that would allow her to be sucked off. However new information about her character leads me to believe it is not her house she is attached to, but her descendants. The one person in her life that she loved was her son Thomas. She did not get to spend much time with him due to parent child relationships not being a big focus of her time (and possibly dying before he was grown), but she loved him regardless. So much so that she justifies giving her life as her trying to insure that he would have what he needed to live a good one. Then she saw him go on to lead a very unhappy life, and was miserable at being unable to help him. She has seen many generations of her family grow up in the house, seen the rise in knowledge about the benefits of strong family bonds, and been unable to help or interact with her descendants how she wanted to. Until Sam. Hetty has grown to view Sam as her daughter. She has gone from opposing Sam turning their house into a BnB to really wanting it and offering Sam suggestions on how to run it. I think maybe if the BnB eventually takes off and Hetty can actually help Sam get set up to live a good life, then she will finally be at peace over her past with Thomas and finally get "sucked off". An ironic twist would be that assuming Sam does not move out of the house at the end like Alison did, I think Hetty, the ghost who is the most vocal about wanting to be sucked off, might actually demand to be put right back, so she can spend the remainder of Sam's life with her.
Thor: choice. Look Thor has already had moments of pure happiness, he has made changes to himself, and he seemingly has no unfinished business. After Sam and Jay's attempt to have him be sucked off, by giving him a proper funeral, failed he told the group he was glad that he is still here, because they are more his crew than his former tribe mates were to him. That to me has always implied that Thor is still here because the manor with his friends is were he wants to pend his afterlife. Before he met Sass and the others it could have been his guilt over having to eat his pet squirrel that made him want to stay. Thor did not think he deserved to pass on. But since meeting the others his reason is now because protecting and caring for his new crew is his new mission.
Pete: learn lessons he did not learn in life. Nearly every episode about him has been about him learning to take chances and be more assertive. We just found out that, after never having adventure as a living, he is the only ghost with the power to leave the property line. So he will "get sucked off" once he finishes becoming a fully rounded person. I do not know when that will be
What do you guys genuinely think are the ghosts’ unfinished business?
