Roles played by us. Its rare when one frame, speaks many if not all stories, the man in the hat and the handy man are opposites in apparel, in status and in direction. Though they coexist and even co-depend they don’t seem to be acknowledging the fact. A lot of silent drama, that is what this picture spoke to me

NEWS660 Class for Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Visit to The Guggenheim Museum to see what we see

 How do we translate a conceptual idea into the creation of an object?

 We have been exploring this question throughout this semester. Creative process, regardless of what form the final object may take whether a photograph, book, film, event, website, etc., confronts many of the same obstacles with lessons to be learned. Our paths within creative process are analogous to what we are encountering here today.

 The spiral of this architectural space is also analogous to the path each of us takes in life regardless of cultural or national heritage. Dahn Vo has brought into this space objects of disparate cultural and historic origins, objects that relate to his perception of himself and the world he inhabits. We are witness to his aesthetic sensibility, a bringing together of both his feeling sense and his thinking sense, just as you have been doing over the course of this semester.

 In many of his works there are two ideas conversing much as we considered in our creation of diptychs. In our case it was the coming together of two distinct images as photographs. Our photographs held objects which we framed and captured, objects which represented ideas that held meaning for us. In this digital age our photographs most often do not take on physical form, yet the ideas we strive to represent remain based in our human experience regardless of national or cultural difference.
