Rob's Ribs Oysters Bourbon Opens at Newport World Resorts

There's a new restaurant at the Newport Mall which promises an exciting lineup of seafood, ribs, and cocktails that you can enjoy any time of the day. Rob's Ribs Oysters Bourbon focuses on three of its premium signature items to make sure that its diners will always have an enjoyable time. Chef Robby Goco of the Cyma Group and renowned restaurateur Raymund Magdaluyo have teamed up to create this new dining destination that uses bourbon to elevate its exquisite dishes.

Newport World Resorts is revitalizing its dining scene with the opening of several new restaurants at the Newport Mall. You can find Rob's at the second floor across the grand plaza. It is also right beside Crustasia, another one of Raymund Magdaluyo's popular seafood restaurants. The Hungry Kat was invited last week to sample a few of Rob's specialties and we were excited to see what Chef Rob had in store for us.

Rob's Ribs Oysters Bourbon is a new all-day fine dining restaurant that offers unique dishes with a highlight cocktail bar right at the front. They opened just last month but have already attracted the Newport World Resorts crowd. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00am until very late evening.

The cocktail bar is indeed very enticing as guests can simply grab a seat and order one of their signature concoctions together with some oysters and seafood. In fact, the fresh seafood bar is right there at the counter so you can choose your fresh oysters and crabs or have them cooked and grilled according to your liking.

For those who prefer a full lunch or dinner course, there are plenty of seats inside as well to enjoy their extensive seafood and ribs menu.

Chef Robby Goco personally hosted our small media group. He told us his inspiration in creating his Cajun dishes and how he uses bourbon as an ingredient to highlight their flavors.

But before that, I ordered a few of their Signature Bourbon Cocktails to start our adventure to Louisiana.

The Strawberry Tea Smash (P545) is a sweet and colorful cocktail using strawberry tea and bourbon. It seemed like a harmless beverage at first but it does pack quite a punch.

Make sure to try another signature drink, Rob's Hot BBQ Sour (P488). This concoction comes with a unique combination of savory, spicy, and sour flavors that all come together beautifully. It's unlike any cocktail I have tried before and I really enjoyed it so much that I ordered another glass.

Rob's also offers classic cocktails like the Boulevardier (P348) which is a whiskey cocktail with bourbon, sweet vermouth, and Campari. This one promises a smooth finish highlighted by the aromas from the smoked leaf. Aside from cocktails, they also have other whiskeys, wines, juices, shakes, coffee and tea.

Chef Rob started us with a few appetizers from the menu. The Uni Toast Egg Gribiche with Korean Mustard (P545) is a very tasty starter with uni and three kinds of egg served on brioche bread.

Then there were these very crispy shrimps that you can eat from head to tail. Dip them in vinegar or just pop them in your mouth for a crunchy bite.

Louisiana is famous for its gumbo and chowders so you should definitely order one of their gumbo dishes like the Seafood and Andouille Sausage (P265). This has a combination of seafood, crabmeat, and andouille sausage that you can mix together the scoop of rice to turn it into a very filling soup.

One of my favorite items at Rob's Ribs Oysters Bourbon is obviously their Grilled and Broiled Oysters. The Chipotle Bourbon Oysters (P398/5pcs) are simply amazing! Just one look at these bright and colorful oysters and you know it's not what you will typically find at other oyster bars in the city. The Aklan oysters are plump and fresh and bursting with flavors without being too spicy. Make sure to slurp and finish the chipotle sauce as well.

This version might look tamer but they pack quite a punch. The Diablo Oysters (P398/5pcs) come with a spicier kick and I loved them as well. They also offer the more common Oyster Rockefeller (P455/5pcs) which I would like to try next time.

If oysters are not enough, how about adding a huge slab of bone marrow right in the middle? Awwww Shucks (P675) is a sharing plate that is as sinful as it gets. It comes with a roasted bone marrow and six pieces of garlic herb butter oysters with sourdough toasts.

So how do you attack this monster? Get a piece of sourdough toast and then spread some of the bone marrow generously on the bread, just like a jam. Lastly, top it off with a piece of garlicky oyster, add some salt if you prefer, then take a bite! This was such a heavenly and sinful experience that I highly highly recommend.

Rob's Raw Bar offers a lot of other tempting raw items that you can try. Rob's Sashimi (P798) comes with a combination of fresh tuna, hamachi, snapper, and snapper trout doused in extra virgin olive oil citrus dressing, crunchy shallots, and capers. It tastes similar to a Latin American ceviche.

If you want to impress your guests, make sure to order the Seafood Tower Special (P2788). This packed tower comes with a premium medley of Selva shrimps, mussels, Aklan oysters, blue crab, umibudo seaweed, salmon poke, plus a whole grilled spiny lobster on the top plate.

The seafood tower is really good for sharing up to four persons. Everything looked so enticing and I didn't know where to start. All the items are prepared and ready for eating already so there's no need crack or peel any more shells.

The highlight for me was the blue crab and of course, the lobster. The juicy lobster meat tastes so good especially when you dip it into the sauces.

There are plenty of other seafood dishes to choose from. Rob's "BBQ" Shrimps (P388) come with their signature Cajun style shrimps served with buttered baguette.

Another one of my favorite dishes at Rob's is the Seafood Pan Roast (P498). This simple looking plate just bursts with flavors from the shrimp, crab, and scallop combination together with the secret tomato sauce, tarragon cream bisque, and white rice. It's a complete meal by itself as you can mix the rice with the creamy sauce and just eat away.

For pasta lovers, they also have the Mussel Angel Hair Pasta (P390) with imported mussels, sweet tomato, white wine, and garlic broth. Other notable pasta dishes include Uni & Crabmeat Linguine and the Lobster Makaronada.

Carniviores don't have to fret because Rob's offers some meaty items from its Low and Slow Smokehouse BBQ. The Smoked Chicken Inasal (P395) is a 24-hour brined smoked chicken inasal that you can have with side dishes such as Crab Mac 'N Cheese, Collared Greens, Annato chicken dirty rice, kimchi slaw, or red beans and rice.

Of course, the specialty at Rob's Ribs Oysters Boubon is the Bourbon Baby Back Ribs (P655) with its coffee rubbed house bbq sauce. This is the way baby back ribs should be prepared with its smoky and tender ribs and sauces.

We ended our Louisiana adventure with the Banana Foster (P398) and its flambéed bananas with bourbon topped with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. We would like to thank Chef Robby Goco and Raymund Magdaluyo for inviting us to visit their newest culinary destination inside Newport World Resorts. We really had a great afternoon filled with flavorful ribs, oysters, and bourbon cocktails. Congratulations!

KAO Manila Day & Night Club Offers Lunch and Dinner Menu

There’s a new luxury VIP club in Manila that is fast becoming the hippest place to be. KAO Manila recently opened its doors at the Newport World Resorts at a familiar spot where legendary clubs Republiq and Opus used to be. I remember spending some of my youthful evenings in this area partying the night away, so it is refreshing to see that there’s a new party place here suited for those with a more refined taste.

The newest VIP day and night club destination at Newport World Resorts held its grand opening last February 18, 2023. You can find it at the second floor of the Newport Mall, just beside the mall’s grand plaza and fountain. While the main event at KAO Manila is the nightly clubbing and parties, you don’t have to wait until late evenings to visit this new day and night club, because they will soon be offering their lunch and dinner menu that will be available any time of the day.

The Hungry Kat was invited to experience Kao Manila one Saturday evening and it was the perfect occasion because legendary DJ John Robinson was performing that night. At KAO Day & Night Club, you can experience world-class music, exceptional service, and state-of-the art lights and sound in a cozy and luxurious venue.

My friends and I were seated at their private VIP area which had the best views of the floor and even had its own comfort room. KAO Manila features several VIP private areas together with other cocktail tables and chairs that can be reserved for your groups. Tonight, we were going to have a sneak preview of their lunch and dinner menu items that will soon be available to the public.

But before that, we ordered some of their Classic Cocktails like the Cosmopolitan (P450), Amaretto Sour (P450), and Long Islang Iced Tea (P450). These colorful beverages are a great way to start your evenings at KAO Manila.

Just like other clubs, KAO Manila has a wide selection wines, liquours, whiskeys, tequila, and other spirits to enhance your experience. Order one of their bottles and you also get a lively dance as part of your bottle service.

Someone seems to be very happy to get his bottle of Patron tequila. Of course, one bottle is simply not enough but you have the entire night to enjoy all the other items on their beverage list.

Now it’s time for our dinner preview! KAO Manila is part of the FatFook and Ramen Nagi group, so expect to encounter fantastic dishes featuring Asian specialties. This is the Six Pieces Dimsum Basket containing a variety of delectable dimsum.

I loved eating the plump shrimp dumplings, while the pork siomai are adorned with fish roe and gold leaf to make them even more luxurious.

The Fresh Hokkaido Oyster is a beautifully decorated gigantic piece of oyster placed on ice. If you prefer to have your oysters fried, go and order the Fried Hokkaido Oyster instead.

KAO Manila offers some meaty dishes as well like the Roasted Pork Shoulder with gold trimmings. This pork asado can beat any of the asado dishes found at other Chinese restaruants.

They also have the White Chicken with Scallions which is another Asian specialty. I enjoy eating hainanese chicken so this is also a great dish to have. The only thing missing is chicken rice!

The Pulled Pork Cuapao is good to share with the table as it comes with three pieces of buns filled with tender and juicy pulled pork. These bar chows are great to have together with your drinks.

Another option is the Singaporean Chili Crab which you can put inside these deep fried buns. Best of all, you don’t need to peel the crab from its shell because they already did it for you. This one is quite spicy so you really need the fried buns to balance the flavors.

These amazing dishes should be paired with rice so the Salmon Fried Rice with Ikura is a good companion. This tasty fried rice comes with Ikura or salmon caviar as they are called in Japan which simply pop in your mouth.

Lastly, the Unaju is a complete meal by itself with its sumptuous grilled eel placed on top of steaming white rice. This was one of my favorite dishes that evening and KAO Manila really makes everything look so pretty and delicious.

What made that Saturday night extra special was that it featured the one and only John Robinson, known as the King of Retro Parties who lets his guests step back in time and dance to the beat of the classics. He even dropped by our table to chat with us before his session started.

It was truly a spectacular evening at KAO Manila filled with spectacular music, excellent food, and overflowing beverages. We would like to thank our friend Pepper Teehankee and the owners of KAO Manila for hosting our dinner party and letting us experience their one of a kind VIP club.
