Shut-in Newlywed

Manga recommendation 💐

When talking about isolation lifestyle people usually have in mind young low life men. But here I am. So we know it's not one gender problem. Actually most people with schizoid personality are men. So look at me, I am part of the boy club.

That's why I wanted to recommend manga about shut in women and that is:

"Shut in newlywed" written and illustrated by Ura.

This manga is a memoir of a women that due to marriage and moving became a shut-in. Unable to find a job in a new city and due to her mental health she also was a NEET.

This manga is a really different take on how one becomes a NEET and a shut in.

As in most stories one becomes a shut in because of their lack of socializing and over all disinterest in others, in this book, Ura became one because she kinda didn't have much choice. She likes people and used to have friends but it all kind of slipped out of her grasp as soon as she moved to live with her husband.

I remember too when I after moving struggled to find a job or friends which ended up with me just sitting at my room reading manga all day.

It's actually really difficult to find a new stable job at a new city, especially when you don't have enough job experience to back you up. Or friends to reccomend you to somebody.

Obviously I can't relate to moving to another city just to be with the one you love and then things going sideways but that's why I reccomend reading this manga.

"Shut in newlywed" honestly played with my emotions. At first I was really angry at Ura's husband for not supporting her enough when she was going through mental health crisis but then near the end the narrative did 1 80 and we get to see that the story was at first shown thru author's low self Esteem vision and only at the end we get to see a different perspective.

I honestly got so happy to see that the author found her happiness and spoiler ahead, with just one click into her Twitter we can see that things are going good. So happy for her. I love stories of artists coming to terms with that what makes them happy and what they wanna do is art.

ok so first i read "what moves the dead" by T. kingfisher

what moves the dead is a queer, fungal horror retelling of the fall of the house of usher by edgar allan poe.

the story is from the point of view of a veteran soldier named alex easton from the fictional european country of gallacia, who travels to the neighbouring country of ruravia to visit his old friends roderick and Madeline usher. without getting into spoilers: fungus plays a big part in the horror and there are uncomfortable rabbits and cool gender concepts.

the book is very short, and the writing is both comical at times and absolutely horrifying at others, but i will say it feels a little too short, there are things i wish i could learn more about in the story, but generally very well paced and greatly executed. read if you like victorian queers, constant jokes about america, fungal horror and fungus science, and a funny self aware main character.

i rate it 8/10 spores. good mushroom descriptions, fun read, I'd love to read this author's stuff when it isn't set in 1800s europe, something about that setting felt like it stopped good things from being great, but that's just my take.

the second book i read last week was "mexican gothic" by silvia moreno-garcia. mexican gothic tells the tale of noemí taboada who, after being sent a worrying letter from her newelywed cousin, catalina, is told by her father to go visit her cousin and her husband's home to check up with them and see what is going on with her.

also a lot of fungal horror but this time the true horror is eugenics, racism, sexism, incest, and colonialism. DO NOT READ IF YOU'RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH REALLY GRAPHIC SCENES. fascinating book that talks about this concepts in good regards, but it is very hard to read at times. the pacing is a little slow and then ending is want for more, but i really enjoyed the writing and the ideas put here.

read if you like fungal horror, colonialist horror, a funny likeable female main character who fights back and calls everyone on their bullshit, and many descriptions of dresses.

i rate it a nice 6.5/10 spores.

could be a little better paced and some parts can definitely be cut.

I was listening to this song as I drove 4 1/2 hours over the mountains, not intentionally, as I came back home from being out of state visiting family. As i listened to the words, i had to wonder. Then i began to get a short drabble in my mind about how inuyasha and kagome must have felt when he finally found out that he truely could open his heart to her. I hope y'all enjoy.

Inuyasha x kagome drabble

He woke up once again in a cold sweat, ears flat against his skull and amber eyes reflecting the light from their firepit in the hut. Once again the long surpressed memories of his childhood had resurfaced to claim his mind in a dark slumber. Once again, he truely feared that even Kagome would leave him like all the others did. Leave him alone. Forever.

He tried not to wake his newelywed wife as he slipped off the futon and out the door. He wasnt getting any sleep so he might as well look at the stars, he thought as he jumped onto the roof. Though it wasnt long before his velvet ears perked at the sound of a familiar voice, a voice that he loved so much, yet refused to fully trust.

"InuYasha?" Kagome asked from the door way, confused as to where her husband had gone in the middle of the night.

"Up here." He grunted as he grabbed her and pulled her onto the roof.

"Whats wrong?" She asked him.

"Keh. As if anything needs to be wrong to want some fresh air." He scoffed as he looked away.

"You know, you can trust me. You've got me for life, im not going anywhere." the raven haired miko said softly as she poked her hanyou husband on the chest. " i mean that."

Inuyasha still adverted his gaze, his stubborness kicking in.

"Inuyasha..." The miko warned as she grabbed his chin in her hands and made him look at her. "Whats wrong?"

"Its just that....youll end up leaving me alone like everyone else did. Even my mother left me. Why should i expect anything different from you wench?" He growled softly as he wrapped his arms around her.

"InuYasha, do you know what Unconditionally means?"

"Keh. Should I?"

"It means that no matter what, I'll always love you. And I'll always be here for you. Youre stuck with me. Whether you like it or not." Kagome said as she laughed. "After all we have been through, you wont get rid of me that easily. I love you InuYasha, i love you unconditionally."
