PERSONALITY: I love meeting new people (When I’m in a people mood.) People tell me that I’m funny (I’m a dork.) Helping others with their problems is a big priority for me (Oh yeah.) I share my room with someone RANDOM SHIT: I have breakdanced I have had a teacher with a last name that’s hard to pronounce (I’ve actually had a few. Most of them had awesome nicknames though.) I have dyed my hair I’m listening to one song on repeat right now (The entire ‘Heathers The Musical’ soundtrack.) I have punched someone in the past week I know someone who has gone to jail (Two of my friends' brothers.) I have broken a bone I have eaten a waffle today I know what I want to do with my life (Kinda?) I speak at least 2 languages I have made a new friend in the past year (I’ve actually made several via Tumblr lol.)

Tips for Poptropica fan bloggers: How to get your blog noticed

And now for a little something different from Skinny Moon, Poptropica’s community/social media manager...

I’ve been asked a lot recently why I promote some blogs and not others, so here’s the deal. Right now I have my eye on 30+ Poptropica fan blogs. I do my best to check people's blogs when I can, but with 30 of them - that I know of! - it's impossible for me to stay on top of all of them, all the time.

The posts I promote are ones from blogs that either tweeted me their posts (always a good idea) or the ones I happened to check that day and they had a good post I thought others might like. That’s it. It’s pretty random, to be honest! And this includes the PHB, by the way.

So…want your blog to get noticed by Poptropica and Poptropica fans? Here’s my advice (both as an Official Poptropica Blog blogger and someone who has had a personal blog for 5+ years):

1. Promote. One way I grow my blog is by promoting it. I don't wait to be discovered - I tweet people I know will RT me (hint, hint: TWEET ME YOUR POSTS), I am in groups where bloggers promote each others' posts, I comment on other blogs, I get original posts of mine published on other blogs that link to mine... that sort of thing. Think of ways you can support each other. If you are not old enough to be on social media, partner with a blogger who is and support each other. Maybe you can write guest posts sometimes for that blogger and they can promote posts from your own blog on their social media channels.

2. Write for your readers. Write posts that someone who doesn't necessarily know you will find interesting. When you write, think about a random Poptropica fan who you don’t know. Would they be interested in what you’re writing? Or is what you’re writing directed only to your fellow bloggers? Those kinds of posts are ok sometimes, but aren’t appealing to the general reader.

3. Be unique. Everyone can announce that there are, for example, new Islands of the Month - but what's your unique take on those islands? Do you have a funny story about the first time you played one of the islands? Do you have a great tip for getting past a challenging spot? Write something original to your experience with the islands.

4. Have writer’s block? Top 10 (or 5 or 7 or whatever) lists are always fun to write and read. The Poptropicans’ Corner did a “Top 10 ways to look snazzy in Poptropica” - that was a great idea. I know lots of you have written posts like that - tweet them to me!

5. Short posts are more than okay! All posts don’t have to be 500 words long. Posting a tip of the day for an island is a fun idea. Or if you’re an artist, post a piece of your Poptropica art. Do a round-up of interesting blog posts you’ve seen on other blogs recently. Feature another blogger’s YouTube walkthrough for your favorite island and say why you love that island. So many things you can do!

6. Make sure you have the basics down. Proofread your post before posting. Make sure your post is easy to read - that means (at least mostly!) correct spelling, breaking up long paragraphs into smaller ones, that sort of thing. Oh, and include an image if you can - that makes it easier to promote on social media. If you want your image to be perfect for promoting, 1200x627 is a great size for both Facebook and Twitter.

7. Keep it clean. I can’t promote any blogs that swear or have anything inappropriate, so if you want your blog posts to be promoted by Poptropica, keep it G/PG rated!

I hope these tips are helpful for all of you who blog about Poptropica (or even blog about other stuff!).

Keep up the great work, bloggers! You all are smart, original, creative Poptropica fans and it thrills me to no end that so many of you blog. I love reading your posts. I wish I could sit here and read them all day! You guys are the best.
