More storm chaser au thoughts:

Ford is injured and disappears in tropical storm Bill which is where they get his name from. Sort of a mean placeholder that sticks.

When he's finally released from the hospital after the incident, with no memories and no idea who or where he is, bill stays with Jack who insists. Bill is having a hard time with memory, concentration/focus, and things like that (don't mess with head injuries) so he insists on helping out more around the house to thank Jack, doing dishes, cleaning, etc. it leads to a moment where Bill is very frustrated and upset and Jack takes him outside and they chop some wood and "huh. You could make a lumberjack out of him yet". It's also a very cute moment where Bill/Ford is like. Hm I am in fact gay.

In regards to Ford going by Bill, we've been discussing in my Discord the idea that Bill Cipher did some mental reaching out to Ford at some point before the storm gave him amnesia. And then after Ford loses his memories, he still remembers the name Bill, and latches onto that as his name.

(Exactly how much and what form the contact took is something still being determined. I'm gonna sleep on it but it looks like Bill Cipher has some sort of role in this AU, though very minor. Ford losing his memories really throws a wrench in the works with Bill's plan.)

I looooooooove all that, with Jack being the one to house "Bill"! "Bill" would 100% feel guilty like he needs to be doing something, even while recovering from a head injury, which, like you said, you gotta be careful with. Jack is trying so hard to keep this foolhardy, intelligent, yet also dumb person from hurting himself further by pushing himself too hard too fast. But "Bill" insists on helping just as much as Jack insisted on housing him. But of course, "Bill" is injured and struggling and regular tasks are difficult.

I love the idea of Jack having "Bill" work off his frustration by chopping wood. He shows "Bill" how to do it and "Bill" gets all flustered seeing Jack in action. Jack doesn't get flustered when "Bill" takes his turn. "Bill" isn't good enough at chopping wood yet. But Jack has been having some emotions for "Bill" by seeing him be smart and sweet and trying so hard to be helpful in the house. "Bill" even gets Jack to laugh a few times with his horrible puns, something that is notoriously difficult to do.
