tia’s CQL fanvid recs

In February 2021 and enabled by my dear @purplenadgers through several sessions of CQL fanvids watching and my passion for lists, I started writing a document with detailed recs for all of the CQL fanvids that I had thought were good/interesting/funny/insert relevant adjective here enough to add to my CQL fanvid playlist on YouTube. When I am writing these lines (June 2021), it has close to 200 videos and I have watched 500+ fanvids for the show. The document is nearly 16,000 words and is a beast so I will be sharing the recs through a series of posts.

I have loved fanvids for many years. For a long time, watching and commenting on fanvids was my main fandom creative output, sadly among the different types of fan creations, they are the ones that receive a lesser amount of love which is a shame because the creativity among vidders helps them produce some truly great pieces of art, some of which I find myself coming back to watch again and again.

So I have decided to prepare this list which I will share over the next few months in a series of posts divided by characters/pairings for my fellow fanvid lovers and for those of you who are curious about well-produced fanvids and need more CQL content in your lives.

Each of the fanvids will be presented following a similar format:

Name of the fanvid with a link by name of the vidder with a link to the channel (I might include a link to vidders’ tumblr if they have one)

Music: Title - Artist Mood: to give you an idea of the vibe of the viddeo Strength(s): what i think is good about the video and makes it worthwhile to watch whether it be about the colouring, the pace, the use of the lyrics, the parallels, the story it tells, etc. Notes: some extra notes about the video, the pairing, the vidder, etc. I do try to include tw in terms of flashing lights and the likes, if you see one which doesn’t have a tw that you think should be included, please tell me and i’ll add it.

In terms of the strength(s) of the fanvids, I don’t go in as much length for each fanvid because I don’t like all of the vids as much, because i wrote these over the course of a few months, sometimes early during the day, sometimes late at night and tired, but each of the fanvids I link, I think are worth watching or I wouldn’t link them, as I said, I watched close to triple the number of fanvids that are included in these posts. Some are better technically, some are not as good, but the story they are trying to tell is worth it regardless, some are neither, but they are hilarious. I have not taken into account the number of views on the fanvids, some have a few hundred thousands and some barely a couple of hundreds. I have just taken those that I thought were cool.

An explicit disclaimer here, but this is a purely personal and subjective opinion and it is not because i don’t include a fanvid that it is bad, simply that i did not like it enough to include it in this list (tastes and colours and all that). I am also not including fanvids i disliked because this is about sharing the love, not putting down others.

I hope you will enjoy these posts and that it will help you discover new fanvids and new vidders to follow! Feel free to message me some fanvids you think are good, chances are I have already watched it, but if not, maybe they will make it on the list.
