haikyuu fic recs — the most beautiful, lovely, breathtaking masterlist (vol. I)
so i’ve been binging fics to cure my sadness, and i thought that these select masterpieces were too magnificent to not be plastered on every billboard ever. some tore my soul into shreds, while others melted said shreds back whole, but all of them made me feel some form of sheer, unadulterated love, so. please enjoy! 🥰⛅️✨
note: all of these fics are exquisite and you should read all of them, but if you’re short of time, those with ☆ are my all-time favourites!
daisuga
butterfly in the subway by bigspoonnoya ☆ | T
Sugawara Koushi has no idea he's already in love with the man he's supposed to hate.
i lovelovelove how all the concepts tied in together like a perfectly wrapped gift
also very wholesome, made me feel so inexplicably warm. like, love can exist everywhere!!! despite everything!!! that’s just so inspiring
i revisited this many times, i think it was (one of) my first haikyuu fics and honestly. it set the bar so high and i have no regrets
you’d fit my lonely arms so perfectly by boxofwonder ☆ | G
“Oh. You're. Not Asahi.”
Calmed down enough that he can speak again, Daichi takes a deep breath, his smile settling on his face easily and wide.
“Not as far as I know, no.”
-
Suga accidentally calls a stranger instead of his best friend, tells him all about his burned batch of cookies before realising, and that particular mistake might turn out the best one he ever made.
major, major fluff
the buildup!!!
god this made my yearning for love so much worse
the perfect stranger by downmoon | T
There’s a man standing outside Suga's door.
Scratch that. Start over.
There’s a man he doesn’t know standing outside his door, holding his sleeping nephew in one arm, with another kid clinging tightly to his free hand.
so domestic please read the entire series from start to finish it has my whole heart
shoyou and tobio as their actual kids 🥺
these two parents are so in love it makes me wanna cry
asanoya

Overworked, over-stressed programmer Azumane Asahi works on the top floor of a Shinjuku skyscraper. Nervous around his coworkers and terrified of the long drop on the other side of the window, Asahi falls into a miserable routine, only to have it broken one day by a simple message on the outside of the glass.
PLEASE. so well-written it makes my heart glow and ache simultaneously
made me ascend into asanoya heaven
such a brilliantly unique concept i love it A+

Asahi wants to be a Master Sommelier. It's the highest honor in wine service, and the certification would allow him to live the life he's always envisioned for himself. Too bad the certification test is notorious for being the world's most difficult.
Most people fail their first time taking the exam, and Asahi is no exception, but he has more difficulty than most dusting himself off and getting back on his feet. Enter Nishinoya, a young man who shares his same dream, and who believes in their goals so fiercely it forces Asahi to embark on a delicious and sensuous journey of viticulture and validation.
AKA The Wine Tasting AU that literally no one even knew to ask for.
NOTE: You Do Not Need to Know About Wine to Understand This Fic!
another super unique concept!!! (´∀`=)
my god their chemistry is amazing
the writing made me feel things ngl

“I never thought I’d see the day that I’d envy a human,” Oikawa admits, showering himself in tiny suns, because he can actually feels those, like a fusillade of warm kisses on luminous skin that leave marks. To humans, they’d be freckles. Skin stars, Oikawa calls them. He didn’t make that up, a human did.
“Who created the rule that we can’t touch, I wonder,” Iwaizumi ponders, floating heedlessly through space.
“Maybe it’s because we can fly. Humans dream of flying, right?”
“I don’t think so.”

Iwaizumi blinked his gaze over to Oikawa, "Last time was supposed to be a one time thing," he said, voice low, lacking some conviction.
Oikawa's lips twitched into a smirk and he brought them hovering just over Iwaizumi's, "One time thing, Two time thing, what's it matter as long as it's not a Relationship thing?"
yes.
in fact, this entire series (breaking the rules) features daisuga, kuroken, asanoya and it’s SO GOOD. every single one.
but anyway, character development!!!!! plot!!!!!!!!! writing!!!!!!!! i’m here for it all

Kei realizes in their second year of high school that he’s probably been in love with Yamaguchi since they were ten. However hopeless he might be in handling that situation, Kei prays he’s at least not as hopeless as Hinata and Kageyama. But he just might be.
SO BEAUTIFUL
i am also a sucker for anything with stars, moons and all the love in between
no words to describe this work of art please just go read it and be blessed
under the lilac tree by raewrites | G
there’s a lilac tree in Kei’s backyard.

not as grandiose as the rest but the love written into every word, action and character is absolutely show-stopping

Cooking is hard. Even if you have your very attractive, very grumpy neighbor there to help you.

In which Hinata's lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, if only for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.
the essence of their characters were captured so well and yet it’s like they’re completely new characters too? author, whoever you are, you totally owned this
this made me ship kagehina so hard
fluff! cuteness! lots and lots of cooing!

ahhh here it is. beautiful, heartbreaking, soul-emptying agony. you want angst? choke on this, and your tears later on.
no but seriously please read this if you haven’t you won’t regret it at all i promise
written from kenma’s perspective so you experience every depth and multitude of emotion he does and it’s so raw and- brb imma go cry for a sec

There’s a picture. Kenma blinks, looking at the little calico cat, being held up next to the face of a guy with stupidly messy hair and a crooked grin.
Cute.
The— the cat. The cat is cute.
Just the cat.
-
Kuroo starts spending a lot of time at the flower shop Kenma works at. Kenma definitely isn't into him.
okay so i like it when authors unravel a normally stoic character’s full scope of emotion and give them depth, sue me.
anyway, back on the fluff train!
i absolutely f*ck with flower symbolisms, cats and bitchy best friends who have dirt on each other. the layers of romance, friendship and everything in between is so prettily developed 10/10

In which Akaashi Keiji is an overworked accountant who stumbles upon Bokuto one night playing the piano in the lobby of his work. Bokuto is different, that much is obvious. But with such supreme musical talent and a smile so dazzling it rivals the sun, there's just something about him that brings Akaashi back every night.
this fic. this fic has my whole, broken, sobbing heart and laughing soul

Sleeping didn't come as easy as it used to. Bokuto knew this, and now Akaashi did, too.
The hospital AU that no body asked for, but that I took upon myself to write.
this is a famous fic that i doubt any seasoned haikyuu reader wouldn’t know, and RIGHTLY SO BECAUSE, the PAIN. the pain. the pain.
i could feel my lungs shrivel up and my chest cave in on itself. fatigue and rest are things i struggle with too so this whole story resonated with me from start to finish, and it broke me. in like, the best, most revitalising way
i would read this again but it still haunts me at night. i need to heal from the first time before i have the guts to try one more time HAHAHA 😆💔😭

Things get complicated when everything you thought you knew about a guy changes, and they get even more complicated when you actually start liking those changes.
That guy working with you AND becoming your neighbor? That's just a cherry on top of the cake of confusion.
this AU was refreshingly different, and amazingly so

Bad Dream
Pairing: Kageyama/Hinata (KageHina) x Reader, Yachi x Reader
Genre/Warnings: SFW, Angst, Love Triangle
Summary: They say time heals all wounds. You hope that’s true as you turn your back on Karasuno High School one last time as you graduate, walking away from the painful black, orange, and blonde memories you have.
Requested by Anon
Yachi was your first love. What wasn’t there to love about the sweet adorable blonde? You’d always thought she was cute with her side ponytail bouncing in the air as she walked through the hallways, the blue stars on her hair tie contrasting fashionably against the gold hue of her hair. Maybe she was a bit on the shy and quiet side, but you didn’t mind that. It’s not like you were going to try your luck anyway, not when it was your first year and you were still navigating the new waters of a new school, new environment, and new people. So you watched her from afar hoping that maybe one day your paths would cross and you’d be able to befriend the petite girl.
But as luck would have it, you’re paired together for a project and you can feel your heart flutter as you sit side-by-side, and suddenly you’re just as shy as Yachi as you stammer out a shaky greeting. Your first few exchanges are a bit rough around the edges, punctuated by awkwardly long silences as the two of you struggle to find a conversational rhythm, but both your well intentions finally win out and after a few working sessions the two of you are all smiles as you easily flow between chatting about your project and getting to know each other. And if you thought Yachi was cute before, she’s absolutely endearing now as she brightly smiles at you and excitedly yammers away.
It doesn’t take long for you to spend time together outside of just working on the project and when the project is handed in and completed, the two of you find yourselves walking to and from school together, working on homework and studying for exams together, going to art galleries in Miyagi together. Neither of you talk about exactly what’s developing between the two of you, but when your hands briefly linger as they brush against each other and when you instinctively brush a lock of Yachi’s stray hair behind her ear while the two of you eat together, there’s an unspoken understanding that there’s something stronger and deeper than just friendship tying the two of you together.
You’d like to think that you know Yachi well by now, but you’re taken by surprise when she tells you she’s now an assistant manager for the Karasuno boy’s volleyball team. Do you like playing volleyball? Do you know a lot about volleyball? You’re genuinely curious questions keep on being reciprocated by her shaking head and you sweatdrop in confusion, but seeing her so passionate about something makes you smile and you wish her luck. And you stare in awe as the girl who’d wormed her way into your heart blossoms even further, becoming more outgoing, more determined as the days pass and when she invites you to come to a volleyball game, you easily agree and watch, entranced by how her eyes practically glow and her body jumps in the air with every point scored.
You start coming to as many games as you can after that, always patiently waiting for Yachi to finish up practice before the two of you walk home together, and that’s how you meet Kageyama and Hinata. Sure, you’d seen and exchanged a few polite words here and there with the two fellow first-years, amusedly observing how they badgered Yachi to help them with their studies, but as you begin to tear your eyes away a bit from Yachi and actually watch the court, you watch in amazement as they work together seamlessly on the court. And when the four of you go to Ukai’s store for meat buns once in a while, you can’t help but chuckle at how different they are on versus off the court as you watch the two bumbling idiots bicker with each other. But they’re fooling no one with their pretend animosity and you share a knowing look with Yachi when the two of you trail behind the boys and you see them subtly link their pinkies together.
Maybe back then if you had known how messy things would be, if you had known that you would end up being more than just a bystander of the relationship between Karasuno’s first-year star athletes, you would have stopped interacting so much with the setter and middle blocker. Maybe you would have dedicated yourself solely to Yachi. But ignorant of what’s about to be set in motion, you grow closer and closer to the two boys and you’re not quite sure when it happens, but suddenly you’re rarely alone with Yachi and life is a little noisier, a little more chaotic with Kageyama and Hinata constantly tagging along, but you love every second of it. You love it too much and it’s too late by the time you realize the butterflies in your stomach aren’t just because of Yachi anymore.
You know you’re in the middle of a teeter-tottering seesaw when your heart beats faster when Hinata beams at you as he loudly asks you a question, when your face heats up as Kageyama silently hands you a carton of milk he’d bought you, when you’re still just as lovestruck as always while Yachi asks for your opinion on a new poster design she’s working on. You try to play it off, telling yourself it’s more than possible to remain friends with all three of them, that you won’t give into temptation and choose one side over the other (not that you could choose even if you had to), that you’re looking too much into it and it’s not like either side even reciprocates the budding feelings that grow and twist inside of you more with every passing day. But even as determined as you are to pretend everything’s platonic, it becomes a game of wills and Kageyama, Hinata, and Yachi are more than worthy opponents when it comes to resilience.
It becomes impossible to ignore the way Kageyama too slowly, too intimately wipes some crumbs accidentally left on your face. It becomes impossible to ignore the way Hinata boldly grabs your hands and refuses to let go as he talks to you. It becomes impossible to ignore the way Yachi leans her head on your shoulder, eyes too intently staring up at you, straying too much, too often to your lips for it to truly come off as just a friendly gesture. And you’re not the only one fully aware of the changing dynamics as blue and hazel eyes battle it out with light brown eyes in a silent heated battle every time they cross paths with you caught in the middle.
Unfortunately for everyone around, they intersect too often between classes and volleyball and really, it was only a matter of time, a ticking time bomb before the shaky truce the four of you had fell apart. And like they say, when it rains, it pours.
You’re ecstatic as you wait for the team to exit the court and make their way to where you’re waiting for them in the hallway, still feeling the high of shock and pride from the fact that they had beaten Shiratorizawa and guaranteed themselves a spot in Nationals. But you yelp in surprise when instead of your usual high five and hug, you’re tackled by a ball of orange and the world freezes when you feel something pressing hard against your lips. You’re frozen stiff, the whooping cheers and exclamations of both surprise and congratulations from the rest of the team just vague background noise as your lips remain locked, but when you feel a taller figure at your back, gently placing his hands on your hips, you whip your head behind you and your heart thunders as you stare into blue eyes flooded with love. And suddenly you’re all too aware of the sandwich you’re in and it feels so right, so natural, so perfect to be between the two toned figures.
But the picture perfect feeling shatters to pieces when Hinata is being shoved off of you by an outside party, when Kageyama’s hands are being ripped off of your body, and suddenly you’re face to face with a familiar face you’ve come to love, and yet, it looks so different, so twisted and marred by the hate and anger you see shadowing it. Your body runs on autopilot as it immediately reaches out to comfort and soothe Yachi, hating the hurt you see in those beautiful eyes, but you’re halted by a softer pair of lips and you can’t help but instinctively close your eyes and sink into the sweet feeling of finally sharing such a tender moment with your first love.
And that’s when chaos ensues and suddenly there are hands everywhere, there’s screaming and shouting, harsh and terrible words being venomously launched and you watch in horror as Tanaka and Daichi wrangle Kageyama and Hinata away, as Kiyoko forcefully pulls Yachi away, as the rest of the team, even sweet Suga-senpai, send accusing disappointed looks your way. You feel nauseous as you run away, clumsily making your way into the nearest restroom, and your body shakes from the force of your sobs as you harshly rub your lips as if rubbing them raw would make up for anything. Of course it does nothing and you sink to the ground, huddling into a tight ball as you wonder where everything went wrong and only when the gymnasium has long cleared and you’re being forced to exit the venue as they lock it up for the night do you come to a decision. It’s time to make things right.
It’s hard to muster the strength to be alone in the same room as the three of them, but when you see the scathing looks they shoot at each other, Kageyama and Hinata on one side of the room, Yachi all the way on the opposite side, your resolve hardens and you don’t waver as you completely cut ties with them. It hurts and your heart screams at you, begs you to at least try and repair your friendship even if nothing ever happens beyond that, but your mind knows better, knows that the four of you can never truly go back to what you used to be. And maybe the other three realize it as well as their shoulders slump and they make no move or sound to stop you as you swiftly turn on your heels and retreat.
You laugh humorlessly at yourself in the following months. Pathetic. How many other people had gone through horrible break-ups, divorces, deaths, and come out strongly? And yet here you are, heartbroken, a mess from ending things that couldn’t even be considered real relationships. But the mental kick you give yourself doesn’t do anything to help the giant hole you feel inside of your heart, your soul and you let your internal wounds fester until they ooze into your well being like a rotting infection. Sleep escapes you at night while tears stream down your face and you trudge throughout the day with blood-shot eyes that droop heavily as you sit in class. Dark circles stain the skin beneath your lids and your mind is a hazy fog as it tries to push on, tries to soak in the droning voice of your teachers as they lecture, tries to compute the lines of text in your homework assignments. But there’s only so much it can do with no sleep or nutrition to help it along and you try to muster up apology after apology as teachers worriedly, but sternly pull you aside, citing your rapidly dropping grades and lack of attention.
You’re a shell of who you used to be and even in your barely functioning form, you’re more than aware of the whispers and strange looks your classmates are sending your way. But you tell yourself it’s for the greater good. At least the ones you love are finally moving on with their lives as they should and you bitterly smile at the thought of Yachi, Kageyama, and Hinata exchanging jokes and encouragements as volleyballs are passed around. So you’re in shock when a small hand gently grips your hand and pulls you aside as you’re on your way to school and you turn to see one of the three faces that have been haunting your thoughts and dreams.
Your sleep deprived mind is too slow to react accordingly and you’re thankful for Yachi jumping in first and you sheepishly thank her when she points out that you’d been walking in the wrong direction. It’s silent as the two of you continue trekking along, walking past the school gates, walking down the hallways, but even with the extra space between your two bodies as you take step after step, you can’t ignore the way light brown eyes worriedly scrutinize you and you almost protest when Yachi insists on walking you to your desk, but you’re too exhausted to deal with her stubbornness and you let her unpack your backpack for you, a painful pang in your chest when you see how she sets up everything exactly how you like it, pencil at the top right, notebook slightly tilted in a diagonal line to accommodate the way you naturally slant your writing.
She knows she’s overstepping her boundaries and you’re grateful that she at least has the restraint to not verbally confront you about the mess you’ve become, but you still can’t help but feel uneasy as she pushes her luck more and more everyday despite your reminder that nothing’s changed since you had burned the bridge of your bond. And your pleas for her to go on with her own life and leave you alone begin sounding empty even to your own ears and a small insistent part of you wonders...would it really be so bad to let whatever this is develop?
But when your lack of care finally catches up to you and you find yourself falling to the ground, mind slipping under after a particularly strenuous gym class, strong arms catch you and the last sight you see before you give into darkness are blue and hazel brown eyes. And that’s the sight you wake up to as well as you groggily try to sit up in the nurse’s office, only to be forced back down and scolded by two familiar voices. You wince as your already dizzy head throbs from the loud and harsh words being spat at you. What are you doing? Why aren’t you taking care of yourself? How could you be so careless with your life and health? They’re so demanding, so angry, and you try to cover your ears to drown them out, only to freeze when you hear the underlying worry, concern, and love they still had for you as their frenzied rants continued. And it’s Hinata’s final sentences, spoken in a quieter tone than anything else uttered that finally break you.
“Just choose Yachi or us. Please. Just choose one of us and be happy. We hate seeing you like this.”
You stare in disbelief at the two boys sitting by your bedside and like a dam that bursts, all your emotions come flooding out of you and your voice raises almost to a hysteric tone as you rave at them.
“Do you think it’s that simple? Do you really think I can just choose as easy as 1, 2, 3 between the three of you? Don’t you think I would have done that already if that was an option? I can’t because I love all three of you equally! I can’t choose. I can’t. I can’t. I can’t…”
Your words are becoming less and less coherent as they get muddled by the choked heaving sobs shaking your entire body and when a calloused hand gently rubs your back in a comforting motion, you violently shove it off, anger and frustration beginning to seep into you.
“If you really want me to be happy, you’ll leave me alone and let me move on. I’ll be happier having nothing to do with any of you anymore.”
You’re not sure who’s hurting more after the harsh words slip past your lips as you stare into two pairs of heartbroken eyes full of unshed tears and feel your own heart shatter knowing you’re the reason for their pain. But it doesn’t matter. You’ve made your point loud and clear and the silence is suffocating as both athletes stand up and shuffle out the door, not even glancing back at you once as they close the door behind them and the image of their retreating backs is one that will be ingrained in your memory for years to come.
Unknown to you, a small blonde girl had been quietly hiding outside of the room, listening to every word and when the boys come face to face with their manager, neither side can hide the hate-filled sneer on their faces as they part ways, Kageyama and Hinata attached to the hip as they make their way to the club room, Yachi purposefully going in the opposite direction, taking the longer detour to avoid being anywhere near the two of them as she also gets ready for practice.
Things never do get better after that. That’s life, you suppose, and sometimes there aren’t happy endings. There certainly isn’t a happy ending as Yachi and Kageyama and Hinata barely acknowledge each other over the years despite their close proximity on the volleyball team, silently weaving around each other with barely contained contempt and just enough toleration to not be lectured by Coach Ukai. There certainly isn’t a happy ending as you pass the three of them in the hallways, never exchanging even a single word during the long three years you all spend at Karasuno. And there certainly isn’t a happy ending as the four of you graduate without a backwards glance, intent on going your separate ways, intent on completely leaving behind any bitter memories, intent on letting each other fade away like a bad dream.

if you want, ask me about a certain ship and ill give you some recs!
-sakuatsu-
Marble and Sandstone by red_camellia
rating: G words: 12,937 chapters: 2/2
author summary: Miya Atsumu only cares about volleyball and nothing else. That is, until he develops a strange obsession with the marble statue of a young man that seems vaguely familiar in his university's arts department. One day that statue comes alive as the very real Sakusa Kiyoomi, and they are left with the mystery of why Sakusa Kiyoomi was turned into a statue and only came back to life when Atsumu touched him. Their new-found connection and the strange mystery turns Atsumu's life upside down, not least because of his growing feelings for Sakusa.
my notes: this was a rlly cute fic!!! 11/10 would read again!!
let it go (paint my body gold) by lunarism
rating: T words: 3,272 chapters: 1/1
author summary: It becomes a routine for them. Sometimes they go grocery shopping and make dinner together, other times they end up talking until Sakusa feels like his own shower and bed is calling him. Every single time Sakusa gets home, shrugs his coat off, balls it up, and proceeds to scream profusely into the fabric for a few minutes.
my notes: pining!!! sakusa!!! also casual painter!atsumu!!! and they paint together!!!
craft a miracle with these hands, lips, (silence) by chrysanthe (sonderesque)
rating: T words: 4,252 chapters: 1/1
author summary: ‘Someone is here to ruin your night,’ his door tells him. ‘You should let them in.’ “I’M HOMELESS OMI-OMI. HOMELESS,” yells the one here to ruin his night. “LET ME IN.”
(What does Kiyoomi sell his sanctuary for?)
my notes: hnnn rlly fuckin cute,, and domestic,,,,
Clipped To You by littleboat
rating: T words: 8,174 chapters: 1/1
author summary: It starts with Hinata Natsu, of all people.
Well, if Atsumu’s being honest with himself, it started way before that, but he’s not, so that’s besides the point. And thankfully, he’s just petty enough to blame all of his problems on a thirteen year old girl.
or Sakusa starts wearing hair clips and Atsumu is more than a little obsessed
my notes: minor kagehina, bokuaka // god these fics rlly make me simp for fictional characters even more than i should. but!! sakusa!!! in hairclips!!! and a pining atsumu!!!
learn how to lay me down in something other than danger, other than fury by rosevtea
words: 34,211 chapters: 1/1
author summary: All of the ways fellow college TA Miya Atsumu reinvents Kiyoomi's definition of normal.
my notes: god i loved this. it’s a fake dating au and like,, even though they’re “dating” sakusa keeps letting his guard down little by little around atsumu and it surprises everyone. komori and akaashi just know that they’re were genuinely pining for eachother
among probabilities and a thousand fates by aalphard
rating: T words: 15,675 chapters: 1/1
author summary: prompt fill for “in a world where the red string of fate exists, person a’s finger always twitches when person b, who can see the string, tugs on their string” | or sakusa thought he had a tic and atsumu liked to see his confused expression when it started to happen exclusively when he was around.
my notes: i! loved! it!! so basically atsumu and osamu have the rare gift of seeing the red string of fate, so they know its real but sakusa, like most other people dont believe it exists. so atsumu gives sakusa a (kinda) hard time. rlly cute!! i love soulmate aus!
-bokuaka-
love in the time of wifi by dalyeau
rating: G words: 4,177 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Akaashi is coming to terms with the fact that he might be romantically interested in his volleyball captain. Hence, doing what any sixteen year old with a problem should do. He asks about it online.
my notes: really cute fic about akaashi asking what he should do about his crush on a site similar to reddit. its kinda a “i didnt know it was you” kind of fic and it made me happy
steam by orphan_account
rating: E words: 8,474 chapters: 1/1
author summary:
bokuto: why is he so hot bokuto: why am i so gay kuroo: LMAO you mean your vice captain right bokuto: yeah
The coach blew the whistle for practice to begin, and Bokuto drummed his fingers against the bleachers, awaiting Kuroo’s reply. He was about to walk away, when his phone buzzed in his hand.kuroo: i got this bro bokuto: what bokuto: wtf does that mean
Bokuto started to panic.
my notes: explicit!!! but really wholesome. kuroo is honestly the best wingman. i also think this is my favourite bokuaka smutfic??

my notes: i love text fics and i love wrong number aus so u can tell how much i loved this. really fluffy and i come back to it time to time
-kuroken-
us three by honey_s
rating: T words: 5,137 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Kuroo’s gaze flits over to the utensil. His eyes bulge out of his skull. “Wh—is that a meat hammer? Put it back!” Akaashi’s head recoils back in confusion. “I don’t understand the problem here.” “Why on Earth have you got a fucking meat hammer? We aren’t going to kill somebody!” “Well,” Akaashi begins, clearly taken aback, “I apologise for assuming. I had heard Kenma-san had been hurt in school and after getting a message from both of you to meet late at night, I merely filled in the blanks and assumed we were going to beat someone up, for lack of a better term.” “Not literally! I meant metaphorically, or figuratively, or something!” “Idiomically?” “That isn’t a word, Bokuto-san.” “Jesus Christ,” Kuroo groans, dropping his head into his hands. “We're going to jail."
my notes: bokuaka and kuroo are ready to beat someone up for kenma!! and we stan!!
Cherry Pits and Cat Tattoos by strawberryriver
rating: G words: 6,141 chapters: 1/1
author summary:
Kuroo has been in communication with his soulmate ever since they were kids. They've known each other for so long that he never really worried about when or how he would meet them. At least, not until he meets the roommate of Bokuto's soulmate.Soulmate AU in which things written on your skin show up on your soulmate. Companion piece/same AU as Serendipty
--------------------
Kuroo Tetsurou liked to write on his arms. Despite his mother's half-serious warnings about “ink poisoning” or staining his skin, he insisted on marking his arms and legs wherever he could. Not like his best-friend-since-always Bokuto Koutaro, who had to write on his arms or he’d forget to breathe, but artfully. He’d draw designs, animals, the occasional chemical compound. The whole idea behind soulmates fascinated him: how one person could mark their arm and someone potentially thousands of miles away, would have that same mark appear. The amount of articles, studies, and books he’d read about the topic, even at a young age, could put an undergrad researcher to shame.
my notes: again with the soulmate au bc i cannot help myself. but really cute!!! probably gonna read this again later!
Boom, Toasted by protostar (hearthope)
rated: T words: 6,782 chapters: 1/1
author summary:
FROM: yuuji any bets on who hes texting??
FROM: eita He's smiling at his phone. Kuroo, probably
FROM: kentarou Kuroo
TO: fake family Have any of you ever once considered not prying
FROM: eita You deserve it
FROM: yuuji how can we not when ur in love!!
Kenma gets a text from an unknown number. He'd be lying if he said the guy behind it wasn't kind of endearing.
my notes: again, i love wrong number texts. it focuses more on kenma’s friendship, but kenma’s pov with texting kuroo is more than him realizing feelings and stuff. really cute, ive read it multiple times.
Japan's most subscribed by NeverNothing
rating: T words: 3,631 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Kuroo Tetsurou @blacktetsurou changed his bio : volleyball player, co-owner of Bouncing Ball Corp. and so much more ;)
my notes: i! love! social media! fics!!! really cute and basically people wondering who the mysterious kuroo is to applepi.
MATSUHANA!!! the underrated gem
texting (with a capital S) by parenthetic
rating: M words: 2,119 chapters: 1/1
author summary: Hanamaki breaks his No Texting In Class rule, and it's all downhill from there.
my notes: honestly more funny than it suggests, but its matsuhana, they’re meme lords.
rated m for by orphan_account
rated: T words: 10,692 chapters: 1/1
author summary: He should have known that there was a Specific Reason™ why it was so absolutely vital that he and Matsukawa specifically meet for a reading of the script. He should have known that there had to be some evil catch beyond sitting in a tiny, cramped studio with his newly sworn enemy.
Hanamaki stares at the title of the script he’d so gracefully neglected the night before.
FORBIDDEN PARADISE
“Excuse me,” Hanamaki starts, raising a pen in the air while staring blankly at the packet in his free hand. “Just to clarify, you want me to record a boy's love CD with Matsukawa?”
my notes: a very good voice actor au. there is some misunderstanding on hanamaki’s part bc he didnt finish listening to matsukawa, and this is really cute and i love matsuhana.
In A Quiet Night, All Sounds Carry by levyovochka
rating: E words: 4,794 chapters: 1/1
authors summary: “Ah, ah, Too—!”
Hanamaki hates his university dorm.
“—ru, let me cum, please!”
Hold up. That’s a fucking understatement. Let him rephrase it: Hanamaki loathes his university dorm with passion. Detest the damned abomination, abhors it—
“—ru! Coming, coming—”
It has only been a month and Hanamaki already wants to die.
my notes: as u can guess minor iwaoi // rlly well written and bottom hanamaki rights and maybe my favourite matsuhana smutfic??? and hooh boy i simp for matsukawa
call me maybe by totooru
rating: T words: 33,689 chapters: 14/14
author summary: Hanamaki texts the wrong number when trying to extort tips out of Oikawa in order to defeat Iwaizumi in arm wrestling, and then continues to text the witty stranger who had answered.
my notes: minor iwaoi, daisuga, bokuaka // god i think this is my favourite matsuhana fic overall, maybe in general, but my god is it great. this is probably a common rec, but its understandable as to why it is. basically au where makki texts matsun (who goes to karasuno) instead of oikawa for tips to beat iwaizumi at an arm wrestling match. but they keep messaging. and holy shit i love their conversations. please read this, it is 256/10
there we go!! i might go a part two with more ships (kagehina, tsukkiyama and iwaoi) but this took up way to much time lol. i have an essay due in a couple hours. but hope u like these fics as much as i do!!

Hi! Your art is always so adorable and I LOVE your style!! I'm not always good about leaving tags or interacting but I always love seeing ur art on my dash 💕♥️ That being said, I saw ur tags on that last post and.... uhhhh 👀 I would absolutely love to hear more about ur kagehina childhood friends au if you want to talk about it omg absolutely yes please
BLESS YOU BOTH FOR LETTING RAMBLE BECAUSE THIS AU!! IS REALLY SOFT!!! And like 10% angst, so I’m really excited to talk about it 😔😔
The premise is that Kageyama has to go spend the summer with his relatives in a different town because his granddad was not feeling well and had to stay in the hospital for a while (nothing too severe but he thought it was better to send Kags and Miwa away to recover faster and not make them worry!!! ) And that's how he accidentally meets Hinata, who also has relatives in that same town and has been spending summers there for a really long time.
Kageyama joins a small vb training camp that is nearby his aunt’s house because he doesn’t get along with anyone apart from his sister and grandad so he doesn’t want to stay home with their relatives. That's how Hinata would find him sitting down outside of the gym court alone when he would pass with the other neighborhood kids to play. Hinata wouldn’t pay too much attention to him at first, but every day, it just became the same routine: Kageyama sitting there alone and Hinata always seeing him sitting alone
Eventually, Hinata decided to invite Kageyama to play with them, cause finally, he has someone his age he can play with and maybe, they can be friends but when he asks, Kageyama just straight up ignores him lmao
(And ofc since they’re just kids, this is the highest of offenses and Hinata just stomps away because guess what, he doesn’t care, he can have FUN ON HIS OWN and doesn’t need Kageyama as a friend if he’s a “big meanie”)
However, Hinata comes marching back later because it bothered him the whole day and he came with the intention to argue, but he quickly finds out that Kageyama just didn’t want to play whatever they’re playing because they were playing exactly what he said (”YOU COULD JUST HAVE SAID YOU DIDN’T LIKE BASEBALL!” “I thought I did??”)
Hinata then tries to find out what Kags wants to do instead because he still wants to be friends, but they end up spending the whole day arguing/talking without making any progress. When they went home that day, however, they found themselves not really caring if they actually did because that was the most fun they ever had with someone.
So then this became their new, new routine: Hinata trying to figure out what they can do because he finds himself wanting to be Kageyama’s friend no matter what (even if it means sitting next to him after vb practices the whole day) and Kageyama still being confused as to why he’s there, but letting it happen (Hinata almost considers it a success cause at least Kageyama is no longer ignoring him lol)
Eventually, Kageyama caves in one day after Hinata decides to join the other kids a week later and Hinata gets so happy about this and immediately, abandons the others and drags Kageyama everywhere he wanted to go with him since day 1 (Did he spend nights making terrible hand-drawn maps with a corny title like “Hinata and Kageyama Super Fun Summer Blast Adventure”? Ofc he did.)
He wouldn’t want to admit it either, but Kageyama couldn’t stop smiling the whole day because of it.
And this is how their summer went: Kageyama skipping vb practice, playing with hinata (or with the other kids, or Miwa, if she was not busy) for the whole day, and going home very happy.
(Kageyama also taught Hinata how to play vb and Hinata tries to convince Kageyama that baseball or other sports are NOT always that bad if he gave them a try lmao)
However, the coach calls his aunt one day and asks why he wasn’t going to the camp, and here’s where Kageyama gets in really big trouble. (He and Hinata did make an excuse just in case, but they both made awful reasons and ended having an even worse one after saying how their reason was stupid. Truly, no brain cells shared between them lol)
So this is where this drawing comes to play because his aunt called to tell his grandfather what he’s done and that he’s on his way from the hospital to talk with him, so Kageyama not wanting to disappoint him even more, he decided to cut ties with Hinata. And that makes both Hinata and Kags sad because their summer is almost ending and now they both lost their best friend.
But I’m not that cruel either to leave it in a sad cliffhanger lmao so!!!!!
Hinata surprises Kageyama a few days later by showing up to his house and trying his best not to be scared, he tells his aunt that it was all his fault and Kags should not be punished because of this. (He found out what happen to Kageyama by the other kids and immediately tried to make it up)
Kageyama tries to shoo him away after Miwa tells him what Hinata is doing and noticing how his aunt was getting slightly bothered about him trying to “make excuses” just so Kageyama won’t get in trouble, he really doesn’t want to make things worse than it is.
Getting more frustrated, Hinata then just blurts out that he wasn’t being a bad influence like his aunt thought he was, but he just wanted to be Kageyama’s friend cause, guess what? because he just really, really likes hiM
And ta-da, all of them just freezes because damn, that’s so embarrassing and so damn adorable at the same time lmao (Miwa is also in the background screaming “aww tobio got a new friend” like the older sister she is too)
This is also when Kageyama’s grandfather walks in and sees both Hinata and Kageyama embarrassed and his daughter just looking at both really confused lol
To cut my notes short, Kags embarrassingly tells his grandpa + aunt why he missed practice and while he expected to get in trouble, his grandfather just laughs and tells them that he actually immediately rush here because Miwa kept telling him how happy Kags was lately so when he heard how he missed vb, he had to meet the person who made his grandson so happy to even not think abt vb 24/7
And that's just basically my kagehina childhood au in a nutshell?? I want to point out this is all the same rambling mess that I wrote in my phone at 3am lmao and it’s missing some really cute moments between them but I’m so soft for them and I hope you soft for them too aaaa
#this is so damn long and i'm not sure i make sense#but i get so excited to talk about kagehina you don't understand#haikyuu#hope you have a good day btw!!!#randomstarmuffin#letters

oh dear i'm super duper late but I have a lot of questions about your wips!! I wanna know more about sick Akashi, nekoma pirate crew, BoKuroo/BokuAka midsommer, Pining + Jacket, The truth burns and destroys, feeling good, Punk Noya, Strawberry Blonde, sunspot and the merman au!!! Thanks babe <333
Hi Vee!!! This is it, I spent wayyyyy too long on this, I think my finger is cramping from typing. But thank you for asking, I love sharing my ideas, sorry if it’s incorherent.
This is super long so it’s under the cut, saving people room
Sick Akashi
So, it’s based off of a line prompt “I’d like it if you’d stay” and as the title suggests, 3rd year Akashi gets sick, sorry Vee it’s not fatal, Furihata comes to Rakuzan to check on his friend after he doesn’t answer his phone. The entire premise is Akashi works himself sick with his various responsibilities he takes on as “perfectionist who can’t show any cracks at all”. I don’t want Bokushi Akashi showing up so it’s minus the mental break elements. (also technically in canon terms it's after they have merged so yeah) I feel like they deserve a cute little “nurse” the other from a sickness ficlet. And… maybe… sick Akashi confesses…….. It’s almost a writing challenge for me because Akashi has a more polite sophisticated way of thinking and speaking, so cough yep
The rest are Haikyuu aus so buckle in
NEKOMA PIRATE CREW
Admittedly this is more loose, less of a solid idea. It’s Yaku centric, and how he went from a merchant from his grandfather’s company searching for lost merchandise and became the first mate who keeps track of the ship's finances and keeps their captain Kuroo on track. Other things of note, he meets Kuroo first as a pirate on another ship who stole his merchandise, Kenma is a sea witch (is that science or magic? That's always the question), and about halfway through the adventure they get Lev on board as a new member. So yeah! Kinda a fetch quest but on of my favorite fanfics is legitimately a fetch quest so it's okay fjdkaljf
BoKuroo/BokuAka Midsommer
This is based off of a fanart by desdelasombra my friend Shayla showed it to me and we threw this idea around together, we really don’t want to write it but it's also spectacular. So it's the movie Midsommar, right? Bokuto is a “gatherer” bringing his friends to come join in his village’s rituals. But we didn’t want anyone to die (except for Kenma sorry he’s dead as the substitute for the main character’s sister), so a grieving Kuroo comes with his boyfriend Bokuto, joined by their friends the smart studious and jaded Oikawa and bright bubbly Hinata. Obviously the three react badly to the first ritual and Bokuto doesn’t understand because for him it’s always been a joyful experience and he wanted to share it with his friends. A Lot of things happen, but most important is Akaashi and Kuroo dancing under the may pole together. BokuAka was in the past when Bokuto was home so part of this is them coming together as poly and escaping the final scene of the movie. Again this is very painful but that art is beautiful and the world is better for it being created
Pining + Jacket (KuroLev)
Again this is a line prompt about lending a jacket because it’s cold and it had so much potential for pining and who is the most pining bastard that I know? LEV and Shayla told me about KuroLev and somehow this happened. It’s currently going to be a sequence of drabbles of Lev pining after Kuroo, what else could you ask for? Uh? Lev confessing to Kuroo and them going out??? Sorry I can’t hear you over the exquisite angst and pain of one sided love that I want to explore
The truth burns and destroys
GOOD CHOICE, I began this on saturday night and it has earned a very special place in my heart. Sometimes I fear that my writing is like a lazy pool, sure it's nice and easy and smooth but there isn’t an intensity or raw emotions, BUT THIS this accomplishes what I want. And I’m really glad, its metaphor and imagery heavy but it really captures their emotions and thoughts without it sounding like I’m a 7th grader writing my first fanfiction glances to my abandoned wips from that time. Okay, Vee, I am a glutton for punishment and angst and I choose to pursue cheating fics. But specifically where and how they build the relationship up again after finding out. So, I was reading a KageHina cheating fic and how the character’s reacted felt off somehow so at midnight I wrote this snippet to fullfill my craving, you know what they say the best fanfiction is self indulgence. Here is a short excerpt,
He wants to brush this aside and continue their lives. He wants to wake up next to Tobio and still be seen the same way. He doesn't want anything to change.
Tobio is his favorite book. He has read it time and time again. Highlighting, underlining, cherishing. So Shouyou is able to read the silent begging in his eyes. The right clenched fist.
"Shouyou," a deafening pause "What is this?"
Please lie to me.
…
It stretches on. The eternity of silence. They sit together holding on to the last hope they have. Shouyou memorizes those beautiful hands, each crease and bump. Hands that helped shape him become who he is and that reached out unwaveringly.
Tobio sighs a world ending sigh.
Shouyou was the one who created their world, it's only fitting that Tobio is the one who destroys it.
In summary I like angst, I want to feel something
Feeling good
AAA, okay uh, This is a BokuAka pop star au. Akaashi sings “feeling good” at a big charity event hosted by Akashi (... yes I am AkaFuri trash and I can and will sneak them in anything and everything I write) while he is singing he walks down a big staircase remembering moments in his relationship with Bokuto, how much they have grown and how much he loves him. I love the concept! But I tried to write smut in the beginning of it and OOF THATS A NO. I actually have the majority of it written but I do want to add more emotions and thoughts (the lazy pool writing) and make it Ao3 friendly because I have all of the lyrics for feeling good in it as “post signs” for what he sings and that’s against their rules. 1 major aspect of this fic is it's all leading up to the point where Akaashi says “I love you” for the first time to Bokuto after finishing the song, on stage, in front of everyone and on every screen broadcasting it.
Punk Noya
I have a love for feral boys, especially feral alternative punk boys (and girls and humans) so this whole idea is that Noya goes to another school for high school, embraces more punk aethsetics, and on the first day of the preliminary tournaments he hears the rumors about a high schooler in a gang, getting up to nasty things, and he decides to confront them. He finds Asahi, rants him out and leaves. The plot then follows canon, at the winter tournament Karasuno faces Dateko, Karasuno loses even more badly because Noya isn’t there. Asahi quits volleyball, BUT Asahi and Noya run into each other at the store and talk leading to friendship which leads to romance. Idk man, I want more punk haikyuu characters, it gives me life. Alt Yamaguchi is my favorite but onwards we go
Strawberry Blonde
!!!! So this is Mitski’s song and to give a vague idea this is a pining Kageyama fic where he tries to pull away from Hinata and that back fires. (I do have more to say but I’ve been typing this for over an hour and I’m getting really tired fjkdaljl) There is one paragraph that I love, so here it is! Kageyama and Hinata are practicing by themselves outside of school and they are playing pepper (its a volleyball warm up practice routine where you partner up with someone pass, set, and spike the ball to each other sesquentially) Hinata goes to spike the ball and for a moment Kageyama sees it,
They are at nationals and they made it to finals. The crowds are screaming, but everything except the court is thrown into shadows. They are at match point of the final set. Everything is at peak intensity and at the center is him. Flying in the air. Orange hair waving with the momentum. His loud take off echoing in the gym. Arm poised for the kill. Eyes sparking with ferocity and passion as he aims. And finally, tipping the world over is the loud slap of his hand, sending the ball to the far side of the court-
This was actually going to be finished and posted in time for Haikyuu season 4 coming out and the manga wrapping up.... clearly I failed my goal fjdaklfj
Sunspot
You don’t know this about me but I love royalty aus, and this is BokuAka Prince Akaashi and Knight Bokuto. This was a short snippet of this grand idea I have for them where they run away from Akaashi’s inherited destiny together. It has potential to be really wide and expansive with the differnet teams as different kingdoms (AGAIN ILLUSION OF CHOICE, that fic really influences me doesn’t it fjdskalj) But this was a short glance at Akaashi taking a break from studying and watching Bokuto and the other knights practice duel. The title comes from the fact that Bokuto is a sunspot in Akaashi’s life, and his day is substantially better basking in his golden shining light.
Merman au
I’m so glad you asked about this and its technically the one I’ve written the most for since it's actually the one I posted on my haikyuu writing side blog. But brief recap, long term it’s a BokuAka little mermaid au but instead of a sea witch it’s an underwater deity who makes “wishes” (it's a deal) with every royal who is born. And Akaashi has a lot of siblings: Ushijima, Oikawa, Suga, Terushima, and Hinata, and its in that order. So I have information on every sibling’s deal, what they wish for, what they give for it, what happens to them in the future, romantically and otherwise. But, this is the one I haven’t updated in over a year, I am working on it!! I’m currently on Koushi’s (suga’s) wish/deal, its just taking forever. If you want to learn more about it I’ll link it in parts 1 2 3 4
BUT I will work on Suga’s part and then Terushima’s and then to the meat of the idea with Akaashi.
If you have made it this far, thanks, you are cool as always. My brain and fingers is ded.

haikyuutext’s fanfic rec (hq!! only)
structured as:
title
ship. word count. rating.
summary
italicized fics are my favorites!
Conquering the Great King
iwaoi. 105k words. explicit.
Arrest me Officer
iwaoi. 122k words. general audiences.
‘Perhaps getting mugged at two in the morning isn’t such a bad idea’ Oikawa thinks as he eyes the world’s hottest policeman settled in the seat across from him.
In which Oikawa is a news reporter head over heels for a commanding police officer.
NOTE: This is fic is mainly Oikawa/Iwaizumi - There are also other side pairings (look in tags)
to be first, to be best
iwaoi. 26k words. teen.
Hajime is apparently something of a masochist, and as he stares down at the tie-dyed AREA51 T-shirt in his hands, he thinks “I’m totally in love with this asshole, aren't I?”
new phone who dis
iwaoi. 57k words. teen.
Oikawa texts the wrong number when complaining about Ushijima, and then keeps texting Iwaizumi.
Trial by Fire
iwaoi. 76k words. explicit.
Iwaizumi is a young, bright-eyed criminal prosecutor fresh out of law school. After half a year of trying misdemeanor cases and learning the art of argument through his mentor, Ushijima Wakatoshi, he finally gets his first felony case: a murder of an affluent CEO by his son, Daishou Suguru.
But when he meets Daishou’s defense attorney, a talented and extremely successful lawyer by the name of Oikawa Tooru, he finds himself wavering in his ability to prosecute the case. Especially when Oikawa looks like that fucking good in his pressed suit and tie.
(lawyer!AU - in which Iwaizumi loves his objections, Oikawa is beautiful, and they have more chemistry than two opposing attorneys probably should.)
I honestly didn’t expect this story to pop off as much as it did.
I like the way your clothes smell
kagehina. 75k words. explicit.
Power outages, ghost stories, and the presence of a certain orange-haired boy lead to bad decision-making on Tobio's part. He'd planned to keep his crush a secret; the universe has other plans.
Saffron and Cayenne Pepper
kagehina. 30k words. teen.
Cooking is hard. Even if you have your very attractive, very grumpy neighbor there to help you.
In which Hinata's lack of cooking skills are a danger to him and others. Luckily (or not), Kageyama is willing to teach him, if only for the sake of avoiding any burned down apartments.
Come and get lost with us
kagehina-centric. 150k words. mature.
Kageyama is a thief, betrayed after his last raid, and left to die alone in the forest.
Hinata is the one to find him, determined to save his life and nurse him back to health.
In a forest that is growing more dangerous by the day, tension is running high, and neither of them can anticipate the impact they'll have on each others life.
There are good fics, and then there’s Come and get lost with us.
gold star, ash sky
kagehina-centric. 147k words (INCOMPLETE). mature.
Hinata Shouyou dreams of becoming a samurai, but there's a problem: he can't kill a dragon.
You’d fit my lonely arms so perfectly
daisuga. 25k words. general audiences.
“Oh. You're. Not Asahi.” Calmed down enough that he can speak again, Daichi takes a deep breath, his smile settling on his face easily and wide. “Not as far as I know, no.”
Suga accidentally calls a stranger instead of his best friend, tells him all about his burned batch of cookies before realising, and that particular mistake might turn out the best one he ever made.
The Stars in Summer
daisuga. 36k words. mature.
‘ “We’ll take you to our favorite ice cream shop,” Daichi tells Suga. “It’s not fancy, but it’s really good.”
Suga waves a hand over himself, his soft, frayed shorts, and plain white t-shirt. “I was really hoping for fancy, Daichi, so I don’t know if this is going to work out.”
Daichi laughs, that warm rumble that starts in his belly, and Suga thanks all of his lucky stars that he’s walking through this nothing town right now, with this boy who is definitely something.’
butterfly in the subway
daisuga-centric. 62k words. teen.
Sugawara Koushi has no idea he's already in love with the man he's supposed to hate.
It’s a You’ve Got Mail AU. Can you hear my crusty ass screaming?
cool kids don’t wear skinny jeans
daisuga. 31k words. teen.
'He was supposed to ask Suga for his number or ask if he was busy next Friday night and if he was interested in seeing a movie or something. Instead, he said in a slightly cracking and not at all calm voice, “I think I lost my kids.”'
or
that fic where babysitter no. 1 Daichi loses three kids in the city, gets into a bunch of shenanigans, and tries to ask Suga on a date.
Rough Draft
kuroken. 16k words. teen.
Kozume Kenma's a novelist tasked to write a romance into his action-adventure stories in order to attract more readers, something he has no idea how to do. At a loss, he recruits his attractive next-door neighbor Kuroo Tetsurou to assist him in experiencing what a relationship feels like.
He should have anticipated the way things grow more complicated.
How Kuroo Found Kenma
kuroken. 37k words. explicit.
"Oh my God," Kuroo said, eyes growing wide. He slowly turned to fully face Oikawa, "I'm in love with Kenma."
Oikawa brought his tea to his mouth. "Yeah," he said, smiling through the steam rising in front of his face, "I know."
This is actually a spin-off from Conquering the Great King, but you don't need to have read that beforehand to enjoy this.
Liked, Commented and Subscribed
kuroken. 45k words. teen.
" 'Hey, Bokuto?' Kuroo interrupted his friend. They were both sitting on his couch, Bokuto telling some silly story that happened the previous weekend and Kuroo reading the comments on his latest video. He was quite happy with how it turned out – a lot of people seemed to enjoy it and he even saw a few memes on tumblr titled ‘The actual signs as Kuroo’s signs’. There was only one thing bothering him. 'Yeah, bro?' Bokuto answered, a little annoyed for having his great story be interrupted. 'Do you know who Kozume Kenma is?' " -- Everyone is a youtuber and tumblr ships KuroKen. A lot.
Never Fly on One Wing
bokuaka. 23k words. explicit.
'This was not what Koutarou had planned out for his evening. Yet here he was, sweating, scratches on his arm, and a shaking cardboard box in his lap.'
In which Bokuto rescues an owl.
tea-stained polaroids
bokuaka. 5k words. general audiences.
“I'm gonna date that,” Bokuto declares solemnly, and Kuroo throws a plastic spoon at his head.
Come Downstairs
bokuaka. 50k words. teen.
Akaashi Keiji is pretty certain that he’s got love figured out. Or at least, he’s figured out that love isn’t for him. It isn't until his new downstairs neighbor moves in that he realizes even intelligent people make mistakes in their calculations.
Iron Curtain
kurotsukki / bokuaka. 4k words. mature.
Desperate times, Tsukishima thinks, call for vicious measures.
(Kuroo and Bokuto are, predictably, impossible to live with; Akaashi and Tsukishima hatch a plot. Nothing goes as planned.)
This one’s too fucking hilarious not to add to the list.
Mannequin Men
bokuakakurotsukki. 76k words. mature.
The modeling world is full of hungry wolves, constantly clambering over the other, snarling and desperate. They fight, and they kill, trampling over anything in their path.
In this case, Akaashi fell in love with the wolves.
I remembered liking it the first time around and the second time was even better.
national hot dad alliance is not calling...
not ship-centric. 58k words. teen.
Sawamura Daichi: What the fuck.
(Or, the captains' squad interactions that definitely happen outside of canon, presented in Skype chat form.)
I think that’s all for now! I might make a second list later with more stories I fall in love with, so stay tuned! I didn’t include everything that I love for the sake of space and variety, but let me know if you’d like more recs.

Big and Little
Hi guys! The Haikyuu Siblings Zine (a free e-zine) is available now!! We wrote a little collab for it featuring the Hinata siblings, with a side of kagehina because we’re weak. We hope you enjoy it!! A lot of effort was put into it and it has several amazing works!! Claudia wants to dedicate this piece to Pixie, an amazing human being that left us too soon, but touched so many lives and will be hardly forgotten. The art she made for the zine shows the bright and wonderful artist she was. I hope she’s resting in peace.
******** ********
Car rides usually make Natsu feel sleepy, but today she couldn’t fall asleep even if she tried. Her mom looks happy too, and, well, it’s not every day that the freak duo of the national team comes to visit. The last time Natsu saw her brother was for their New Year’s party, and the last she’d heard of him was from TV; the national team classified for the world cup, the match point made by Shouyou.
She was so excited when Shouyou announced he would come home to rest, which is a novelty because as far as she knows, he loves being on the move, but she won’t complain. Natsu wants to feel she has an older brother again, to play and bicker like before he left home.
Her mom parks the car and Natsu is out before she can remove the keys, running to the meeting point. In the distance she can make out the bubbly orange boy and his tall cranky partner, both carrying big gym bags and wearing their team jackets.
Shouyou notices her and waves his arms way above his head, grinning from ear to ear. Natsu can’t stop herself, and when she’s by his side, hugs him. There’s something different though… her big brother is…
“When did you get taller than me?!” He shouts, stepping back and staring wide eyed. Natsu hears a chuckle from beside them.
“We were almost the same height the last time you visited,” Natsu smiles, kind of proud of herself. “Hi Kageyama-kun!”
Kageyama gives her a side smile, and ruffles her hair.
“Don’t do that!” She laughs as her brother speaks again.
“But I’m the big brother!”
Just then their mom catches up with them, smiling wide.
“Shouyou! I’m so glad you’re back!” She says, a hint of tears glossing her eyes.
They all make their way back to the car but as soon as they exit the train station Kageyama tells them that he’ll go to his house by bus.
“Are you sure? We can take you there.” Hinata’s mom says.
“Yeah,” he scratches his neck, looking sheepishly at the ground. “It’s been awhile since I’ve been here so I want to make the whole trip.”
“I’m sure your parents will be happy to see you,” their mother continues, smiling softly. “Will you be coming to Natsu’s birthday tomorrow?”
“‘Course,” he replies, smiling politely—or as close to a smile as Kageyama can get.
“You guys go on ahead,” Shouyou tells them, “I’ll be at the car in a second, I just need to tell Kageyama something.”
The two nod and start to leave, but as they turn Natsu sneaks a peek around the corner, seeing Shouyou lift on his tiptoes to peck Kageyama’s cheek. Natsu hurries away, hoping they didn’t see her snooping.
When Shouyou climbs into the car, grumbling something about tall sisters getting the front seat, Natsu can barely hide her knowing smile.
—
“Hey, big bro, wanna play some basketball with me?”
“Sweetie, let him put his bags down before you start dragging him outside,” their mother chuckles, shaking her head as she prepares to cook dinner.
“Are you kidding, Mom? I haven’t touched a volleyball for two days, and a basketball is close enough. My fingers are tingling,” Shouyou responds, wiggling his fingers to prove his point. He drops his duffel bag in front of the hallway and follows Natsu to the backyard, face eager.
She starts off easy, just dribbling the ball and passing it to Shouyou, though he can’t quite get the hang of bouncing the ball instead of hitting it into the air.
“Ow!” He yells, rubbing his wrist as the ball falls with a dull thud to his side. “That hurt.”
“It’s not a volleyball, dummy,” Natsu sighs, catching the ball and tucking it under her arm. “It’s a lot heavier and harder, it’s not meant to be smacked around with your wrist.”
Natsu shoots the ball over Shouyou’s head, smiling at the sound of it hitting the hoop and bouncing against the asphalt. Shouyou pouts, but she knows there’s no disdain behind it. She feels as if she’s walking on air, falling into conversation so easily with her brother as if they were just together the day before, as if he never left in the first place.
“How’s the team going? I remember you saying you were joining the basketball team,” Shouyou asks, picking up the ball and attempting to dribble again.
“It’s going great!” Natsu smiles, chest swelling with pride. “I’m on the starting team, just like you were your first year.”
Shouyou passes her the ball, tossing it up instead of bouncing it, but she doesn’t comment. “That’s awesome! You must be pretty good. The only reason I made the starting team was because of Kageyama.”
“I’m the only first year who made it,” Natsu explains, deflating a bit. “I think it might just be for my height, but I want to show them that I’m not just tall, I’m a good player and I deserve that spot.”
Shouyou’s expression turns thoughtful. “You know, it took me a long time to feel like I deserved my spot on the national team. Kageyama has always been more skilled than me, and I felt like I was just tagging along at his heels, but after years of training together I finally realized I earned my spot, not just our teamwork. If you’re already confident in your ability then you’re leaps and bounds ahead of where I was.”
“And centimeters above where you were,” Natsu smirks, covering up the emotions she feels swelling in her chest with jokes.
“Funny,” Shouyou deadpans, taking the ball as she bounces it towards him.
“So what’s going on with you and Kageyama?” Natsu wiggles her eyebrows, surprised when Shouyou smiles.
“So you, uh, you saw that?” He asks, embarrassed, passing the ball again.
“Saw what? The smooch or the years of secret pining?”
“When did you get so sassy?”
“You brought Kageyama around too much when I was little,” Natsu answers. “I learned from the best. Now spill, are you guys finally a thing?”
Still smiling, he looks down fondly. “You could say so…”
“Oh! Come on! Do I need to go to his house and make you both sit and talk?”
“Rude!” Shouyou laughs again, hitting Natsu lightly on the shoulder. “We are a thing, but we haven’t told anyone. Well, before now. You’re the first one to know.”
Her brother’s words and affectionate expression make Natsu tear up. She’s aware of the way many people view same-sex couples in Japan, so she can’t imagine how hard is for both of them to continue their relationship with such a public career. She’s so proud of her brother; the courage he shows in the sport he loves and his personal life is a path she wants to follow. And being the first one to know about all of this makes her the happiest person alive.
“I’m really happy for you guys!” She drops the ball and hugs Shouyou, the thump of the ball and the birds singing in the background the only sounds around them. Natsu doesn’t want to break the contact because she knows what kind of face her brother is making; he’s smiling wide and trying not to cry in front of his little sister.
They stay still for a while, feeling each other’s warmth and their love and trust that never faded; it’s like nothing has changed since Shouyou left.
Natsu is the one to break the comfortable silence. “Hey, big bro.”
“Hmm?”
“Let’s keep playing so I can teach you,” she laughs, patting his head before going to get the ball.
“I’ll show you how fast I can learn!” Natsu sees him rubbing his eyes, knowing she was right.
Shouyou prepares himself, going into a volleyball receiving position, and Natsu giggles. Some habits really do die hard.
---
Kageyama is the first guest to arrive the next day, wasting no time in giving Natsu his gift.
She thought they would behave differently now that they’re dating, but as soon as Shouyou reaches the living room and sees Natsu holding Kageyama’s gift they start arguing about big brother’s rights and how stupid the other is.
“I’m her brother so she has to open my gift first,” Shouyou declares, and, without letting Kageyama respond, darts out and returns in a second, shoving a messily wrapped package toward Natsu.
Kageyama rolls his eyes.
“Geez, why does everything have to be a competition with you guys,” Natsu says, sitting on the couch and ripping the paper open.
Her breath catches in her throat when the colors of the National Volleyball Team flash under the wrapping. Natsu takes it out and holds it in front of her, speechless, looking at Shouyou, whose eyes are shining with excitement.
“I can’t believe you got me the jacket!” Natsu is sure her smile splits her face in two.
“Try it!” Shouyou beams.
She puts it on, the hem only reaching her navel and exposing part of her shirt.
“I can use it with a shorter shirt and-”
“No, not happening. I’ll ask for another size,” Shouyou interrupts her, smile disappearing. “It’s too short.”
“What do you mean? I think it’s fine, look the sleeves fit perfectly!” Natsu turns to show them, but Shouyou’s gloomy expression doesn’t change.
“Let her be. You’re not her dad,” Kageyama says, bored.
“I’m her brother and that’s close enough,” Shouyou protests, looking indignantly at his boyfriend.
Natsu let’s them argue as she opens Kageyama’s gift, a dress covered with a sunflower pattern. She stands up and realizes it’s kind of short too, barely reaching the middle of her thighs.
“Why did you buy her a dress that short?!” Shouyou starts again.
“How could I know she would outgrow you?! I just got your size!” Kageyama shouts back. “Your gift was too small, too!”
“I didn’t know she was taller than me now!” Shouyou stands and goes to grab it, but Natsu dodges him, laughing. “Natsu! Let’s go exchange it!”
She leaves the room and hears Kageyama tell Shouyou that it can’t be exchanged, followed by more arguing, but Natsu doesn’t care. She’ll keep their gifts.
Some things don’t change. Natsu can see it in the way Shouyou smiles, or hear it in the way he and Kageyama argue, and she couldn’t be more thankful. For years she felt as if everything was moving too fast, her brother leaving to start his own life just as she was old enough to really need his guidance, but now, having him back, she realizes he never truly left.
Shouyou will always be Shouyou, and no matter how tall she grows or how far he goes, he’ll always be her big brother, and she couldn’t have asked for a better one.

Kageyama had said a lot of things and in the end, he’d coaxed Hinata into staying the night because yeah, everything was true, and yeah, maybe he would be better off spending the night at Kageyama’s, but then they’re changing for bed and Hinata is in nothing but boxers and a shirt and Kageyama is cupping his jaw in both hands and kissing like he might fall of the face of the earth if he doesn’t and Hinata thinks that maybe, Kageyama had some ulterior motives.

Vren by Icandigelvis ♥ (★) ロ ✿
Summary: It was the boots that caught his attention. They looked new and expensive sticking up from the tall grass, visible from the small trail Shoyo was walking on. He cautiously trudged closer, almost against his will. What Shoyo didn’t notice, however, was the creature watching him; blue eyes following the oblivious human like a prey. AKA creature!Kageyama au
Hunger by Esselle ♥ ★ ■ ✿
Summary: This was how Shouyou, prince of the kingdom on the hill, ended up sitting on the wooden floor in front of the fire, roasting all the different kinds of meats in the crackling flames to eat. When he was done, he flopped over backwards, sprawling over the floor. Kageyama was watching him again. Shouyou rolled lazily onto his stomach and rested his head on his arm, smiling at him. “That was good,” he said. The food had been delicious. Watching Kageyama eat had been more so; the way his throat worked to swallow as he drank down the creamy, white milk, his white teeth as they sank into the succulent, tender meat, the little groans and sighs of pleasure he made as he tasted it. It had all made Shouyou so very, very hungry for more.
Note: Part of a series. The continuation: Homecoming

Before Hinata realizes what's happening, he finds himself agreeing to stay at the villa, where Kageyama can spoil him to his heart's content. To Hinata's surprise, he soon finds himself growing attached to the brutally blunt yet strangely sweet Kageyama; but he is worried he won't be able to hold the attention of a man who has everything, even as Kageyama starts to become everything to him.

IwaOi (Iwaizumi x Oikawa)
a little bit more by orphan_account ♥ ★ ■
Summary: "Iwaizumi-san is definitely a top.” “I’d say Oikawa. He seems to like being in charge.” Matsukawa laughed at this, surveying the club members. “It’s a shame that we’ll never be able to find out who’s right.” Unfortunately, they do find out.
An Omega’s Heat by madamemalfoy21 ★ ■
Summary: He always got strangely sentimental, the closer he got to his heat. Which is precisely why today, he should not have shown up to the practice match. He knew better. Had always done better.
Anger Management by Leryline ♥ ★ ■
Summary: “You’re so cruel to me,” Oikawa whined down the line, and Iwaizumi snorted at that. “All I try to do is be nice, and here you are, saying all I want to do is talk shit on Ushiwaka! Which, you know, I do, but that’s beside the point. Do you like Ushiwaka, Iwa-chan?” “Of course I don’t, what are you -,” “Because I could just get him to fuck me instead.” (Oikawa had slipped into a bad habit of teasing him like this, and he’d had enough of it. It was time for Iwaizumi to shut Oikawa up, and to shut him up good.)
Anticipated by tastewithouttalent ★ ■
Summary: “The skirt seems like a fantastic idea in Oikawa’s head.” Oikawa tries a new method of seduction on Iwaizumi, and it proves effective, though not as he expected it would be.
Conquering the Great King by SuggestiveScribe ♥ ★ ■ ✿
Summary: Iwaizumi blinked his gaze over to Oikawa, “Last time was supposed to be a one time thing,” he said, voice low, lacking some conviction.Oikawa’s lips twitched into a smirk and he brought them hovering just over Iwaizumi’s, “One time thing, Two time thing, what’s it matter as long as it’s not a Relationship thing?”
Heart(less) and Soul(full) by subverx ★ ■
Summary: In which Oikawa is a demon whose job is contracting humans for their souls, and his next victim is Iwaizumi. Somehow, what is supposed to be a quick case turns into a two year long affair – and then some.
Hold You Down by IncessantOblivion ♥ ★ ロ ✿
Summary: In which Oikawa Tooru is a prince and Iwaizumi Hajime is his knight. “I want…I want…” Oikawa opened his eyes and for once Iwaizumi wished he couldn’t read them so well. ‘You. I want you,’ they said. Iwaizumi couldn’t let Oikawa say it for real, he couldn’t. It would destroy him. So he crashed his lips against Oikawa’s, silencing him, consoling him. “I know,” he whispered once they finally parted. He didn’t need to say that it didn’t matter what Oikawa wanted – what either of them wanted. They both knew already.
Lace Lingerie by BlackKite7 ★ ■
Summary: ‘A gift for you.’ Matsukawa’s voice echoed in his mind as he recalled the way his high school friend had slyly passed him a folded shopping bag under the table while they were in the middle of lunch. Matsukawa had insisted he look at it only when he got home, and feeling foolishly happy about the spur of the moment gift, he agreed. He wished, in hindsight, that he had looked instead. And that he had throttled Matsukawa for even thinking it was an appropriate gift.
Mine by kiyala ♥ ★ ■
Summary: Oikawa might be a jealous person, but even that is nothing compared to the intrinsic possessiveness that all dragons have.
of bees and flowers and pipes and plumbers by clockworkmoon ♥ ★ ■
Summary: for the "the new handyman’s hot so i’m gonna keep breaking stuff” au. Iwaizumi is the Handsome Handyman, and Oikawa is… Oikawa?
Patterns by e1even ★ ■ ✿
Summary: There were things they always came back to. Some of those things were each other. Or, Oikawa gets hit by an early heat, Iwaizumi carries him home. Something changes for the both of them.
Pour some sugar on me by blasphemia ★ ■ ✿
Summary: Despite common belief, making sure you don’t have to work a single day in your life is hard work. Luckily, Oikawa has mastered the skill. But when his new target is the awfully… practical businessman Iwaizumi Hajime, Oikawa’s skills are put to the test, since Iwaizumi refuses to spend money on him. Yet, the two can’t ignore their mutual attraction, but with such different expectations for the relationship, there’s bound to be trouble.
So Much Better Than An Axe Murderer by levkawa & starlitcities ★ ■
Summary: This shower will be quick, Oikawa decides, reaching up for his luffa. He then goes to reach for his body wash. His eyes widen when he narrows in on the two objects in his hands. The luffa is white, and the body wash brand says Old Spice, something musky and masculine. Oikawa has never owned Old Spice in his entire life, and his luffa is definitely not white, looking like it came from some cheap dollar store.~AU where Oikawa accidentally stumbles into the wrong apartment.

banana fish:
haven’t heard of it | absolutely never watching | might watch | currently watching | dropped | hated it | meh | a positive okay | liked it | liked it a lot! | loved it | a favorite
don’t watch period | drop if not interested within 2-3 episodes | give it a go, could be your thing | 5 star recommendation
fav characters: eiji, ash, singleast fav characters: golzine fav relationship: asheijifav moment: hmm i love the scene in the beginning where eiji pole vaults over the wall to get ash help like that was so badass, and also that scene in the museum where ash totally goes beast mode against some guys golzine sent after him (also a super badass scene haha) headcanons/theories: my fav hc is that a certain character (*no spoilers*) lives and him and eiji move to japan and live happily ever after with a dog and a bunch of adopted kids :’)unpopular opinion: idk if this counts but when I was reading the manga epilogue I was getting very romancey vibes from sing and eiji? and I kinda like the idea of them getting together after everything that happened, esp bc I think itd be hard for anyone except for sing to understand what eiji went through :( asheiji forever ofc but in the canon universe I can kinda see sing/eiji in the futurehow’d you find it: I think I just heard about it being an airing summer anime and it sounded p interesting so I decided to watch it! and the name definitely caught my intention LOLrandom thoughts: it was really good!! the ending definitely wrecked my soul and I was like shocked for days sdfhhdfsh but besides that, theres a lot of good action, character development, etc.! theres also a TON of trigger warnings that could apply tho (ex. sexual abuse, violence) but overall I rlly enjoyed it!!
(haikyuu and kny are under the read more!)
haikyuu:
haven’t heard of it | absolutely never watching | might watch | currently watching | dropped | hated it | meh | a positive okay | liked it | liked it a lot! | loved it | a favorite
don’t watch period | drop if not interested within 2-3 episodes | give it a go, could be your thing | 5 star recommendation
fav characters: hinata, suga, tendou to name a few, but honestly every character is a fave!!least fav characters: none?? I didn't really like washijou in the anime (including the ball boy arc) but hes gone through so much development in the manga I have no choice but to stan shhfsdfav relationship: kagehina!fav moment: omg theres so many, but to name a few: when hinata and kageyama finally get their new quick right at the training camp, yamaguchi’s serves in the 2nd seijou match, tsukki’s block against ushijima, nishinoya’s foot save against datekou, and the list goes on and on sfhdhfsdheadcanons/theories: I love the idea that haikyuu will end (well I hate the idea of it ending BUT) with kagehina at the 2020 Olympics on the japan national team playing together again, and some random kid sees hinata on the tv and the kid gets inspired to play vball bc of him just like how hinata started :’) ALSO manga spoilers but I saw this theory that udai tenma is like furudate’s self-insert and that that’s how he actually looks irl (which makes sense bc furudate based hq off his own hs vball experience AND tenma ends up becoming a mangaka soo...hmmm...)unpopular opinion: idk if I have any tbh! but (manga spoilers again) when the timeskip happened I saw a lot of ppl were really upset about it, and I was kinda sad we didn't get to see them as 3rd years, but I was actually so excited for the beach arc?? like holy crap it was such a plot twist and im so happy furudate took this direction, bc I honestly do think itd be kinda repetitive to see them go through second and third year and having to introduce tons of new characters would be a bit much :( how’d you find it: I had just finished watching yoi and I was like “ok im not gonna become obsessed w anime buuuut maybe ill just try another sports anime” and then i saw haikyuu and I was like “why not lol” and that was when I first started watching it!random thoughts: haikyuu is honestly my all-time fave!!! like it literally inspired me to start playing vball and hinata is such a great protagonist and its literally a work of art and actually super accurate and realistic gameplay (mostly, the quick attack is kinda out there BUT STILL) and yeah this show is just so dear to my heart :’))
kny:
haven’t heard of it | absolutely never watching | might watch | currently watching | dropped | hated it | meh | a positive okay | liked it | liked it a lot! | loved it | a favorite
don’t watch period | drop if not interested within 2-3 episodes | give it a go, could be your thing | 5 star recommendation (honestly I feel like almost anyone could get into kny)
fav characters: inosuke, tanjirou, kanrojileast fav characters: muzan but even he;s rlly complex and fav relationship: shinazugawa/Tomioka and kanroji/iguro! (also zenitsu/tanjirou/inosuke/nezuko are squad goals haha) fav moment: literally any fight scene fshfhsf, like theyre all so well animated and the demon backstories are so sad omg headcanons/theories: sabito was tomioka's first love and the one that got away :’( but he ends up falling in love w shinazugawa and they help each other through the grief of losing their loved ones unpopular opinion: none in particular!
how’d you find it: id heard a ton of good reviews about it, but I put off watching it mainly bc of school and whatnot, but then winter break came and I had a ton of free time and I ended up bingewatching it lmao random thoughts: ok kny gives me serious hxh chimera arc vibes?? i mean personally i would consider it a lot less tragic but the demon backstories are kinda like the ants and the invincible nature of muzan vs. meruem, and also tanjirou willing to die for nezuko being similar to killua and gon ...much to think about ssfshhf

you kNOW i'm sending you tsukkiyama for that send me a ship thing you reblogged 🙏 🙏
• when or if I started shipping it:
Ok, so you know how when starting Haikyuu!! ppl tend to just like. Default ships? Because the characters come in pairs? Like, they go “oh, that makes sense” but don;t really think about it and stuff, and focus on kagehina or smth (AND MAKE STUPID ONLY SINGLE/STRAIGHT GUY POSTS THAT IGNORE ENNOSHITA’S EXISTENCE)?
If we’re being really, really literal, then when they first showed up in pairs and I was like “oh they’re the Default”.
However, if we’re talking when I started truly shipping them, and they started haunting my every waking moment? Well, it came in levels. For me, it stopped being “default” as soon as Yama started getting developed. As soon as he won my heart, his obvious crush on Tsuk made me want them to be together. I no longer just shipped it in the “well I mean they’re there so it’s the obvious choice” way, but in the “these boys deserve each other” way.
And then the part where Yama screams at Tsuk came. And Tsuk’s development.
And then there was just no coming back.
(Keep in mind this all happened really fast because I binged Haikyuu!! - started while season 2 was still going on, and binged the manga while I waited for the new episodes.)
• my thoughts:
Where. To. Start.
Yamaguchi knows Tsukishima better than he knows himself (which is why I don’t by for a minute that he’s ever legitimately sorry for praising Tsuks he knows Tsuks doesn’t like being talked up but Yama doesn’t care because he thinks the world of Tsuks and he is letting everyone know it because everyone should know how great Tsuk is!! He’s the same way when Tsuk isn’t around you know, one day someone comments that they’re glad he’s so proud of his being gay and he’s like !! HOW’D YOU KNOW and they’re like, “uh”). And I mean both “Yama knows Tsuk better than he knows himself, Yama” AND “Yama knows Tsuk better than Tsuk knows Tsuk”.
Yama could explain every tic and twitch of Tsuk. Yama is so IN LOVE with this boy that he can perfectly understand everything about Tsuk. Yama can and will happily rattle off on every little thing about Tsuk. “Tsukki looks warmly on animals!”. He probably has a hundred stories that conflict with the way everyone sees Tsukishima; “Tsukki helped a cat down from a tree he’s so kind!!”
And Tsuk probably isn’t even that conscious of it, but he DOES show a different side of himself to Yama and ONLY Yama. And by conscious I mean like... obviously he knows he’s acting different around Yama than the Idiot Duo. But to him it’s probably just a matter of “the Idiot Duo is annoying”. I don’t think he’s ever had a moment where he’s realized “I show this boy all my vulnerabilities and am comfortable with him in a way I’m not with anyone else. In part I think it’s because most of Tsuk’s walls got put up after Yama was already there. He had already decided “I’m keeping him” when the Akiteru thing happened, and that’s when the Defenses started going up. So he shares all of the stuff his Defenses would hide to Yama, but he doesn’t really realize how intimate that is and how much it shows he trusts Yama
Or at least, at the start of canon. As the plot goes on I’m pretty sure he’s becoming aware of it. Slowly. But the Fight thing and the Bathroom Scene? Big steps. And as he becomes aware of it... he falls in love, of course. Or rather, realizes he’s been in it for awhile.
• What makes me happy about them:
What doesn’t?
Yamaguchi loves Tsuk so so much!! And is such a big part of Tsuk beginning to deconstruct his stupid inferiority complex!!
• What makes me sad about them:
...there is a lot of potential for angst. Neither thinks highly of themselves. Tsukishima is Bad at Communication and figuring himself out. Yamaguchi is working on it but he still seems to be vulnerable to falling into a bad place.
• things done in art/fic that annoys me:
Hmmm.
Jerk Tsuk.
• things I look for in art/fic:
PINING. Communication. Tsuk being Soft. Tsuk being warm and kind to Yama. Tsuk growing as a person and losing his inferiority complex and learning to be proud of himself. Tsuk becoming friends with the others and talking about how Hes In Deep with them. Tsuk smiling as he puts up with Yamas antics. Yamas antics. Tsuk smiling. insatiable kinky bottom (sometimes of the power variety) yama whose libido tsuk struggles to keep up with
• Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
With Tsuk. No one. I just... can’t imagine him being that intimate and open with anyone else. Especially not people that clearly have him on guard but whatever
With Yama. Any hot guy. Today I’ll say iwaizumi in particular but ask me tomorrow and you’ll get a different answer. Heck, ask me in an hour.
• My happily ever after for them:
Tsuk reaches a point in his life where he looks at the ring he bought years ago and no longer has any doubt plague him, and he doesnt hesitate to propose to Yama. They start a family and for a bit, he thinks he would make a bad dad, but he just has to look at yama to realize hat no, hes going to be great. also they have a ton of pets esp dogs and lizards.
• what is their favorite non-sexual activity?
Oh god I can’t decide...
Okay this will sound WAY too general but being in each others company. I can;t be more specific than that they just enjoy each other.

If @kkumri thought I was gonna forget the Ouija board AU, she was wrong. Happy birthday Ally! Thank you for your beautiful art, your humor, your kindness, and your friendship <3
(Now on AO3 as well!)
DISCLAIMERS: This fic is split between humor and feels, but KageHina are both ghosts, so definitely take that with a grain of salt if you’re averse to character death (which I am, so this is very soft to compensate).
Secondly, I thought about substituting the Kokkuri-san game in place of Ouija, but I felt like it might be harder to convey the story for people who aren’t as familiar with the concept, plus that game only pertains to one spirit. So please feel free to imagine ghost!Kageyama painstakingly spelling out basic English phrases.
To the best of Tooru’s knowledge, it all seems to have started off as a joke.
That’s how it always happens, he thinks in a long suffering inner voice; that’s why so many horror movies are kicked off by dumb kids with their dumb bets and their dumb bravado. And he is without a doubt dealing with two of the dumbest, currently.
Well—maybe former dumbest. Is he still allowed to call someone dumb when they’ve passed on? Whatever, he’s the one being haunted, so he’ll say whatever he wants. He lays his cheek on the table in annoyance and pushes some of his tarot cards around on his elaborately laid oracle’s table with its turquoise crushed velvet covering, it’s volleyball-sized crystal ball with the vines carved ornately around the base. He sighs.
“Okay,” he says. “Tell me, again—without arguing over each other, this time—what happened.”
To reconfirm: it started with a joke.
“Well,” says a warbly, wispy little voice, and the mist in Tooru’s crystal ball swirls and turns an intense, warm orange. “It was more of a dare, really.”
It was a dare, and not a bet, because Tsukishima was too smart to pay Hinata when he knew Hinata would do anything for free if he was challenged to it, and Hinata was dumb enough to fall for it every time.
This was how Hinata, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, and Yachi ended up huddled around a Ouijia board late one Saturday night, candles lit around them. Yachi, hidden almost entirely under a blanket until only her eyes and nose were visible, the entire blanket shivering, said,
“Messing around with ghosts and stuff is serious! I don’t think we should do this!”
Yamaguchi looked as though he wanted to agree, but Tsukishima said, “We aren’t doing anything.” He smiled serenely at Hinata. “Hinata wanted to try this all by himself, because he’s so brave.”
Hinata was not brave. Hinata wanted to yank the blankets off Yachi and cower under them himself. But instead, he said, “Yeah! Those ghosts better come at me!”
Please, god, oh please, he thought, do not let any ghosts come at me.
Using a Ouija board, in and of itself, was not very exciting. It was just a wooden board with letters all over it, and a small wooden planchette with a little hole in it that slid across the board, to indicate the selected letters. Supposedly, once a spirit was summoned, it would use the board to communicate with them by moving the planchette. Hinata would be the one acting as a medium, letting the spirit guide him and show him where to move it.
“What if… Hinata gets possessed?” Yamaguchi asked nervously. Yachi made a pitiful grunting noise and burrowed further into the blanket.
“He won’t,” Tsukishima said. “Even if he does, the ghost will probably get so depressed to be in his body that it’ll leave.”
“Mean!” Hinata said, sticking his tongue out at Tsukishima, and then, “Are you sure it’ll leave?”
“Are you scared?” Tsukishima shot back.
“No!” Hinata yelped. He took a deep breath and put his hand on the planchette. “Okay, ghosts! Announce your presence!”
Nothing happened. Tsukishima snorted. “None of them want to talk to you.”
“Maybe they’re scared of me!” Hinata said.
Seconds later, he screamed. Yachi screamed. Yamaguchi screamed. Tsukishima looked annoyed.
“What?” he asked.
“It’s moving!” Hinata whisper-shrieked. On the board, the planchette had shifted, with Hinata’s finger still pressed on top of it.
“What’s it saying?!” Yamaguchi asked, trying to hide behind Yachi.
“Wh… Who…” Hinata read, as the words formed slowly, “are… you. ‘Who are you’! It wants to know who I am!”
“Oh, come on,” Tsukishima said, “you’re moving it yourself, it’s so obvious.”
“I’m not!” Hinata said indignantly.
“Don’t tell it your name,” Yamaguchi hissed.
“Right,” Hinata agreed. “Who am I? Who are you?”
They all stared at the board as someone—or something—formed the next answer.
I… asked… first… it spelled out, and then: Dumbass.
Hinata gasped in outrage as Tsukishima clutched his stomach in a fit of laughter.
“Holy shit,” he said, “you actually managed to summon a ghost… and it hates you.”
This is not how Tooru wanted to spend his day. It's not his fault he's so in tune with the spirits. He didn't ask to have his house haunted—he’s not even getting paid for this.
But unfortunately, they won't go away until he figures out how to help them be at peace.
“Okay,” Tooru says, “so Chibi-chan, you foolishly summoned Tobio-chan’s restless spirit, and he's still too clueless to figure out how to move on, hmm?”
Hinata, who mainly shows up in Tooru’s crystal ball as tangerine-colored smoke, but sometimes gives Tooru the vague impression of a small, excitable bird, yelps his agreement. But then the smoke in the crystal swirls blue-black, and a harsh voice barks out,
“I was fine until he summoned me!”
Kageyama, mostly, gives Tooru the impression of a large pair of angry eyebrows, which is fitting, because he is grumpy most of the time. Still, while his ire is usually directed at Hinata, there seems to be something more going on there. After all, Kageyama was the ghost that responded to Hinata's presence the fastest. And then, there are the circumstances surrounding Hinata's new state of being.
Because obviously, while Hinata had been alive the first time they'd encountered each other, this was no longer the case.
“Wait a moment,” Tooru says, realizing they've skipped over a crucial detail. “Exactly what happened to Hinata-kun, then?” An explosion of arguing follows his words, and he holds up his hand. “Tobio-chan, explain.”
Being a ghost wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly good, either. Kageyama couldn't remember when or how he had become a ghost anymore, but he did know that the first time he could remember the boringness of it being shaken was when a voice had just called out to him, from nowhere.
The voice had demanded some ghosts pay attention to it, except really, it had seemed to be yelling right at Kageyama, and so Kageyama had come to see who it was, a bit like someone had started banging too loudly and insistently on his front door.
Except when he'd opened the door, he'd been met by an idiot who wouldn't even tell Kageyama who he was when asked.
It had been very hard to communicate through the contraption Hinata had chosen to argue with Kageyama through, but argue they had, late into the night, long after Hinata's friends had gone to sleep. Hinata whispered, but his voice was loud to Kageyama; it was the only thing Kageyama had been able to hear clearly in a very long time. And so Kageyama slowly spelled out his words:
You play sports? You're so small.
“So what if I'm small! I'm going to be the ace one day.”
What's an ace?
“The best player on the team, obviously. Did you die before sports were invented?”
I just died before they let people who suck onto the team, I guess. Do other people play with you?
“Yes! Well, kind of. Almost. They say I should keep practicing, and maybe I can play more then…”
I'd play with you.
“R-r-r-really?!”
Yeah. So you can see how much better I am.
“Bastard.”
Kageyama found that being disturbed, shaken out of the boringness a little bit, wasn't so bad. It was almost fun.
They spent a lot more time talking. Kageyama wondered if Hinata thought it strange—to spend so much of his time talking to a ghost, lying under his blankets with his cell phone used as a flashlight so he could see the Ouija board properly.
Kageyama wondered if Hinata could feel him there, too, lying beside him. Sometimes Hinata would shiver a little bit, when Kageyama's transparent arm brushed through his. Kageyama tried not to let it happen, but he liked lying as close to Hinata as possible. It made it easier to talk, to say what he was thinking. Even if half of it was insults.
The thing was that ghosts had a special relationship with those they were close to, and with that force which was always close to them: death.
Everyday, Hinata left for school, and every day Kageyama, tied to the Ouija board, waited for him to come home, and every night, they would talk until very late.
One day, Hinata got ready for school. And Kageyama watched him, feeling that something was different today. Something had changed. He tried to rattle the board, but Hinata just patted it absently; he'd overslept and he was late. He left, and Kageyama waited. And in the evening, Hinata came home. It was dark, as usual, when Hinata called out to him.
But nothing else was the same.
“Kageyama?”
Kageyama turned and saw him. Hinata stood in the middle of his room, only standing wasn't quite the right word. His little feet in his little sneakers passed straight through the floor on every step, like he was trying to walk normally and hadn't realized the ways the world worked for the living no longer applied to him. He glowed around the edges, a soft gold-orange, and Kageyama thought he looked more beautiful than ever.
Then he realized this must mean he'd been thinking of Hinata as beautiful for a long time.
More startling than anything else, he was looking right at Kageyama. Hinata had only ever looked through him before.
“You… dumbass!” Kageyama shouted, and Hinata flinched at the sound of his voice, because he could hear it now. “What did you do?!”
“I… it rained…” Hinata said. “And I was biking next to the river and I think I fell in…”
Kageyama swore. “Did it hurt?!”
Hinata shook his head. “No. The last thing I remember thinking before I fell was…”
“What?” Kageyama asked, incensed. Was it food, or manga, or sports? What stupid thing could have caused Hinata to lose focus like that?
“I was really excited to come home and talk to you,” Hinata said.
If Kageyama had still needed to breathe, he would have stopped. As it was, he could only stare. “Oh.”
“Hey, Kageyama…” Hinata said softly, “you really look just like I imagined you would.”
For the first time since they met, when Kageyama touched Hinata, Hinata didn't shiver, and Kageyama didn't pass through him. He hugged him tight and Hinata clung to him, and they stayed like that for a long time.
“I tried to warn you,” Kageyama told him. “Stupid, you never listen to me.”
“That's because you say dumb things,” Hinata said. His arms squeezed tighter around Kageyama's middle and he rubbed his nose against Kageyama's shirt. And Kageyama could feel it, could feel all the places they were touching. “It's weird, but I don't feel that sad. I'm kind of just… glad to see you, finally.”
Kageyama felt a lot of things. Maybe he was sad for Hinata; but he was also happy, even if that then made him feel a bit horrible. And he was also soft and warm, which weren’t really feelings, or at least he hadn't known they could be, until he'd found himself hugging Hinata.
“I'm glad to see you, too,” he said.
“Couldn't you always see me?” Hinata asked.
“Yeah,” Kageyama said. “But now you see me back.”
"Do you have a cold?” Kageyama asks Tooru, as he hastily wipes his eyes with the back of his hand.
“No, Tobio-chan, these are seasonal allergies,” he says. Where did he put that damn tissue box? “I have to admit—” Ah, there it is. Tooru honks his nose very loudly into a tissue. “I'm not really sure why you two need my help.”
“You can't tell us anything?” Hinata asks, dismayed.
“No, I mean,” Tooru shrugs, “are you actually unhappy? You seem…”
Head over heels for each other, is what he thinks, but doesn't say. After all, where would be the fun in that revelation? Some things are best left understood over time; especially when given all the time in the world.
“You seem at peace,” Tooru concludes, and he's not even lying to get them out of his hair. There's a hell of a lot of bickering back and forth, but in the end, it all amounts to a strange kind of comfort.
“Well…” Kageyama says, “yeah, I guess. But then why are we still here?”
“Where would you rather be?” Tooru asks shrewdly. There's silence.
“As long as I'm with Kageyama,” Hinata says, orange mist curling tentatively, “anywhere’s fine.”
“Dumbass,” Kageyama, predictably, responds. Blue fog puffs agitatedly. He sounds choked up. “You weren't supposed to die to be with me!”
“I didn't mean to!” Hinata protests. “But it's better with me around, isn't it? Now you're not so lonely. And I'm not, either!”
“Well, then,” Tooru says cheerfully, “it looks like we've solved your problem! I'll leave you two to your afterlife! Now if you'll excuse me—”
“Oh, don't worry,” Hinata says, just as brightly, “we'll live here for a bit so you don't feel lonely either!”
“What,” Tooru deadpans.
“Yeah, I already talked to Tobio about it,” Hinata reassures him. “We thought, in exchange for you helping us, we'd stay with you for awhile!”
“That really, really is not necessary,” Tooru tries to say.
“We don't mind,” Kageyama says.
“Besides, I was planning to stay around and haunt Tsukishima for awhile,” Hinata says. “So I have to practice moving things around and stuff.”
“I bet I can do it before you,” Kageyama challenges him.
“I bet I can move our crystal ball.”
“Do not break anything, or I will exorcise you,” Tooru threatens them.
The last thing he needs is two love-struck teenage ghosts making a mess of his apartment, but, what the hell, he reasons—maybe he can put them to good use. If they're planning on learning how to become corporeal, he can make them clean up the place and spook less affable guests into becoming true believers.
There's a knock on the door, a customer there for a reading, and he starts to rapidly straighten up his table.
“Stay quiet, pay attention, and maybe we can consider an arrangement,” he says. A thought occurs to him and he smiles slyly. “Do either of you know how to make the lights flicker?”
“Me,” Kageyama says, while Hinata whines and says he wants to try.
Tooru laughs in delight. The afternoon is looking livelier already.
And they all live (in a sense) happily ever after. Personally, I think Iwaizumi is destined to walk through that door pretty soon… And then it will be Kageyama’s and Hinata's turn to help two other big idiots realize they are hopelessly in love (presumably by poltergeisting the shit out of IwaOi).
