One thing I find interesting about the whole Chris Pike hasn't changed his very easy to crack password in a very long time is that Una let him get away with that?! This woman is on top of things and I can not see her letting him make his password 246810 but also letting it stay that for that long.

Maybe because Iâm hyper-watching but I think theyâre setting up for a major storyline for Melissa with the added 10 students. Just the way she acted when all those students showed up on the first day of schoolâŚâŚI just have a feeling.

Hi everyone, please help Mahmoud and his family! đľđ¸ @mahmooud-sharif2
Mahmoud Sharif messaged me some time ago asking for aid regarding his campaign and told me about himself and his family. Me and him have been keeping touch since then, and I wanted to make a formal post about his campaign for him, his wife and their four beautiful children, one of which was born just recently. The following is from his GoFundMe:
"We are from the Gaza Strip, which suffers from wars. I lived through 5 of these wars, and I lost my eyes and fingers hand , and my other eye was damaged. These were the previous wars until this 2023 war came and destroyed everything from my home and my workplace. The Israeliâs originated and developed a long time ago, even when I achieved my goal and ambition and developed my workplace. Before this war came, 10 days before October 7th, I had developed all my equipment for my project, which I had dreamed of for more than 12 years. Then the war came and the occupation destroyed my home and my workplace and burned all my equipment. And demolishing everything I dreamed of in my life and what I built prolonged my life with effort and fatigue, and now I am left homeless and there is no guarantee that I can complete my lifeâs work or rebuild my project. Life has extinguished in my heart and everything I dreamed of has been broken.
My goal in communication is to urgently raise funds for the evacuation from the dangerous situation in Gaza. The situation, the danger and the hardships are beyond all expectations. Time is imperative, which means it costs blood and more lives are lost the longer the siege lasts. Our immediate goal is to flee to a safe place Egypt, away from the constant aggression, which requires a hefty travel fee of $5,000 per person and $2,500 per child under 16.
As I said, me and Mahmoud have been keeping in touch since he first reached out to me, and I have been reblogging/keeping track with his posts and fundraiser in the meantime as he focuses on looking after his family. He needs $60,000 and currently has just almost $11,000 as of writing. The number grows every time I check on the fundraiser, which is great news, but the family still need much more!
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
You can always donate to his fundraiser. However, if you cannot send money, then please share! Mahmoud and his beautiful family are making progress but still have a long way to go.
Let's continue supporting Mahmoud and his family!

Literally every time I check the news, something horrible has happened at Nuseirat, which is suffering from non-stop attacks. I'm really worried for Mahmoud's family (@mahmoudfamily1), who are stuck in Nuseirat right now. His campaign barely has any donations and support, and these funds are the lifeline for his 17 family members, including 10 children and a 2-year-old baby!
Nuseirat Camp has been bombed again, and Israeli tanks are advancing close to the camp!! I fear what the tanks will do to the people at Nuseirat. The Israeli military is now attacking Nuseirat Camp on an hourly basis, and what we see on the news is a mere fraction of the devastation being dealt to Nuseirat. Mahmoud also told me that the drones have been shooting at people non-stop. And with all the bombings, houses are collapsing with people still inside them, and many people are trapped and buried under the rubble.
I've been writing a lot of posts (1, 2, 3) about Nuseirat and Mahmoud's campaign recently because I'm really, really worried. Mahmoud has only raised $1,217 CAD out of $80,000 goal, last donation was more than 24 hours ago, and more often than not he does not even get one donation a day. How do I make you care? He has already lost relatives, including a one-month-old baby, to this genocide. His family has been injured. Can we please show them more support?
Low Funds! Only $1,217 CAD raised of $80,000 goal! Only $15 raised in more than 3 days!
Mahmoud's campaign is vetted by association. Mahmoud is a friend of @hazempalestine (vetted by @/el-shab-hussein and is listed as #281 on the verified fundraiser list by @/el-shab-hussein and @/nabulsi). I've also been chatting with him extensively both on and off Tumblr. We even follow each other's private IG accounts. Please, at least share his campaign, and please please donate if you can!
Tagging for reach, please message me if you want off the mailing list! We thank you in advance.

CREATORâS NOTES:
Let's start with my favorite item of the set, Bonbon Hair. It's the cutest hair I've ever created, and I'm really proud of it. The bow is adorable, and I was finally able to make a great 3D model of it. I'm really happy with how the hair looks - it's exactly what I had in mind. I hope you love it too! One thing to note is that the bow on Bonbon Hair isn't removable and won't work with hats. Usually, I prefer hairstyles that can be worn with hats, but for this one, I needed more space for the bow's texture. I also drew the bow's shadow onto the hair's texture to give it more depth and a better overall look. I also made sure to keep the polycount low - around 6k polygons. I could have made it lower, but it didn't look as good in movement. So, I kept it at a higher polycount to maintain good movement without too much distortion.
I designed the dress to complement the hairstyle, adding a bow at the back for an extra touch of charm and romance. I used a new mesh from the latest kit that I couldn't wait to franken-meshing with it. My goal was to create a vintage silhouette and style, and while I'm not sure if it was successful, I'm very happy with the final result. At the end of the day, it looks cute, and that's all that really matters.
The nails are a kind of old wip that I finally decided to finish. It's one of the cutest designs I've ever come across, and I was determined to recreate it in The Sims. I love a stiletto design, and for me, one of the best nail art is this one; it matches the nail's format and is so cute. The nail includes two color options but only one spec option. However, I plan to create additional versions in the future, including a glossy and matte finish, possibly as part of a mini set that I'm working on that will have this and other versions of some of my recent clothing designs.
Next up, we have the Biscuits Earrings. These were originally a work in progress meant for a different set, but while I was styling the Sims, I realized how well they matched with the current Sweet Tooth Set. So, I quickly finished them up and included them as part of the set.
By now, it's all. Unfortunately, I've been working very slowly lately; thanks to this heat wave, I feel most of the day like I'm melting. It's scorching in here, guys. I don't understand how a person can say global warming is a lie; really, how?!

⌠08.11.2023 âŚ
Hello everyone! :)
I hope that you're having a good day. Mine was really productive and I (finally) had a night off so I thought, "Why not update people on some of what I've been doing?" Because, there's a lot.
I'll keep this short, let's get to the stuff that matters.
⌠Progress âŚ
Prologue Word Count: 120,087 (currently, I'll return to writing after posting this)
Episode One Word Count: 46,055 (see above)
⌠Changes & Updates âŚ
Hells, there's a lot of these. Okay...
Changed timeline. The game now starts on Friday, June 13th (a couple days before Tommy leaves for summer camp...)
Added several scenes (most of which are optional) and more choices to the original prologue
Added a skip feature to the beginning of the game (see image below cut)
Made it easier to change character genders at the beginning of the game (see below the cut)
Started switching direct D&D references to Mythmaker and worked on writing some of the rulebook for that (see this poll for context)
And a lot more. I honestly can't even think to list it all (and you'll see the rest of it soon enough)
⌠Goals âŚ
HOPEFULLY, release the updated prologue and first scene of episode one by the end of 2023
HOPEFULLY, release the next update within the first quarter of 2024 (we'll see where we go from there)
Continuing writing, in general
Begin streaming again, as early as this long weekend (Nov. 10th-12th)
PLAY ZORLOK | CAST | FAQ | NAV | PLAYLIST | DISCORD | AUTHOR | KO-FI
More new features, changes, and previews under the cut. [Beware of minor spoilers]
Prologue skip feature:
Cast gender confirmation screen:
Players can now go back and forth between text blurbs in these screens, that way you can go back to a previous phrase without having to restart the entire sequence:
The prologue now contains an optional flashback featuring a certain detective...
Tommy and Clara don't know each other as well anymore and he can now decide whether or not he's comfortable opening up to her.
Also... if you make some specific choices, Tommy can be a little bit suave now...
But don't worry if you prefer a Friends -> Rivals or Enemies -> Lovers arc, there's plenty of Jin content too...
And much, much more, but that's all I'll share for now. Hope you're having a good day/evening! :)

A little press release from Image comics - we're putting out a mass market edition of Griz Grobus! Press release follows:
PORTLAND, Ore. 12/07/2023 â The high fantasy, graphic novel Kickstarter sensation, Griz Grobus, by co-writer/artist Simon Roy (Prophet, Jan's Atomic Heart and Other Stories) and co-writer Jess Pollard, with colors by Sergey Nazarov, will be available in trade paperback format for the first time this June 2024 from Image Comics.
Griz Grobus was originally a popular Webtoon sequential webcomic that leveled up its exposure with the 2021 launch of a Kickstarter campaign for a stunning hardcover edition. The campaign ignited fandom fervor, was fully funded in under a day, and raised nearly $70Kâfar exceeding the stretch goal. This Summerâs forthcoming paperback edition will bring this roaring success story to an even wider audience of readers.
"Part of what we wanted to make, in Griz Grobus, was a story that felt like a foreign film from a country you haven't heard of," said Roy. "Natural, familiar elements, sitting harmoniously alongside the new and unfamiliar. The proposition of getting to introduce a whole new audience to our little pocket universe, and the worlds within it, is very exciting!"
Set in the same sci-fi universe as Roy's Habitat,Griz Grobus is another tale of life after the collapse of the interstellar empire. But unlike Habitatâwhere a once utopian orbital community found itself descending into cannibal tyrannyâthe characters of Griz Grobus inhabit the rural world of Altamira, where post-utopian frontier life has blossomed into something a bit more wholesome.
Pollard added: "I can definitely say it is one of the funniest, most delightful things I've ever been a part of, and I laugh every time I read the story, as if I'm reading it for the first time. I hope readers will feel the same warmth when they read this edition, whether it be for the first time, the second, or third.â
Griz Grobus tells two parallel, intertwined tales from the far-off colony world. High in a sleepy mountain village, the overzealous academic ambitions of a young scribe lead to the resurrection of the townâs ancient colonial-era priest-bot. This long-defunct pastor finds himself in a world that has passed him by, but refuses to simply accept his obsolescence, much to the chagrin of the scribe and the local townsfolk. The second story, a mise-en-abyme, is Altamiraâs most famous novel (being avidly read by the characters of the first story). It is a fantasy tale about a war-god who gets trapped in the body of a goose, and the efforts of one pacifist cook to delay the war-godâs bloody return to the battlefield.
This lush, intricately detailed, standalone fable is perfect for fans of Hiyao Miyazaki, Asterix, and Arthur C. Clarke.
The Griz Grobus trade paperback (ISBN: 9781534397866) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, June 5 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and Indigo on Tuesday, June 4.
Griz Grobus will also be available across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Couch surfer in his 30s. Oscar winner in his 40s. Why the whole world wants Taika
**Notes: This is very long post!**
Good Weekend
In his 30s, he was sleeping on couches. By his 40s, heâd directed a Kiwi classic, taken a Marvel movie to billion-dollar success, and won an Oscar. Meet Taika Waititi, king of the oddball â and one of New Zealandâs most original creative exports.
Taika Waititi: âBe a nice person and live a good life. And just donât be an arsehole.â
The good news? Taika Waititi is still alive. I wasnât sure. The screen we were speaking through jolted savagely a few minutes ago, with a cacophonous bang and a confused yelp, then radio silence. Now the Kiwi  filmmaker is back, grinning like a loon: âI just broke the f---ing table, bro!â
Come again? âI just smashed this f---ing table and glass flew everywhere. Itâs one of those old annoying colonial tables. It goes like this â see that?â Waititi says, holding up a folding furniture leg. âI hit the mechanism and it wasnât locked. Anyway âŚâ
Iâm glad heâs fine. The stuff heâs been saying from his London hotel room could incur biblical wrath. Weâre talking about his latest project, Next Goal Wins, a movie about the American Samoa soccer teamâs quest to score a solitary goal, 10 years after suffering the worst loss in the gameâs international history â a 31-0 Âignominy to Australia â but our chat strays into Âspirituality, then faith, then religion.
âI donât personally believe in a big guy sitting on a cloud judging everyone, but thatâs just me,â Waititi says, deadpan. âBecause Iâm a grown-up.â
This is the way his interview answers often unfold. Waititi addresses your topic â dogma turns good people bad, he says, yet belief itself is worth lauding â but bookends every response with a conspiratorial nudge, wink, joke or poke. âRegardless of whether itâs some guy living on a cloud, or some other deity that youâve made up â and theyâre all made up â the message across the board is the same, and itâs important: Be a nice person, and live a good life. And just donât be an arsehole!â
Not being an arsehole seems to have served Waititi, 48, well. Once a national treasure and indie darling (through the quirky tenderness of his breakout New Zealand films Boy in 2010 and Hunt for the Wilderpeople in 2016), Waititi then became a star of both the global box office (through his 2017 entry into the Marvel Universe, Thor: Ragnarok, which grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide) and then the Academy Awards (winning the 2020 best adapted screenplay Oscar for his subversive Holocaust dramedy JoJo Rabbit, in which he played an imaginary Hitler).
Waititi playing Adolf Hitler in the 2019 movie JoJo Rabbit. (Alamy)
A handsome devil with undeniable roguish charm, Waititi also slid seamlessly into style-icon status (attending this yearâs Met Gala shirtless, in a floor-length gunmetal-grey Atelier Prabal Gurung wrap coat, with pendulous pearl necklaces), as well as becoming his own brand (releasing an eponymous line of canned Âcoffee drinks) and bona fide Hollywood A-lister (he was introduced to his second wife, British singer Rita Ora, by actor Robert Pattinson at a barbecue).
Putting that platform to use, Waititi is an Indigenous pioneer and mentor, too, co-creating the critically acclaimed TV series Reservation Dogs, while co-founding the Piki Films production company, committed to promoting the next generation of storytellers â a mission that might sound all weighty and worthy, yet Waititiâs new wave of First Nations work is never earnest, always mixing hurt with heart and howling humour.
Waititi with wife Rita Ora at the 2023 Met Gala in May. (Getty Images)
Makes sense. Waititi is a byproduct of âthe weirdest coupling everâ â his late Maori father from the Te Whanau-a-Apanui tribe was an artist, farmer and âSatanâs Slavesâ bikie gang founder, while his Wellington schoolteacher mum descended from Russian Jews, although heâs not devout about her faith. (âNo, I donât practise,â he confirms. âIâm just good at everything, straight away.â)
Heâs remained loyally tethered to his Âorigin story, too â and to a cadre of creative Kiwi mates, including actors Jemaine Clement and Rhys Darby â never forgetting that not long before the actor/writer/producer/director was an industry maven, he was a penniless painter/photographer/ musician/comedian.
With no set title and no fixed address, heâs seemingly happy to be everything, everywhere (to everyone) all at once. ââThe universeâ is bandied around a lot these days, but I do believe in the kind of connective tissue of the universe, and the energy that â scientifically â we are made up of a bunch of atoms that are bouncing around off each other, and some of the atoms are just squished together a bit tighter than others,â he says, smiling. âWeâre all made of the same stardust, and thatâs pretty special.â
-----------------------------------------------
Weâve caught Waititi in a somewhat relaxed moment, right before the screen actorsâ and media artistsâ strike ends. Heâs Âsensitive to the struggle but doesnât deny enjoying the break. âI spent a lot of time thinking about writing, and not writing, and having a nice Âholiday,â he tells Good Weekend. âHonestly, it was a good chance just to recombobulate.â
Waititi, at right, with Hunt for the Wilderpeople actors, from left, Sam Neill, Rhys Darby and Julian Dennison. (Getty Images)
Itâs mid-October, and heâs just headed to Paris to watch his beloved All Blacks in the Rugby World Cup. Heâs deeply obsessed with the game, and sport in general. âHumans spend all of our time knowing whatâs going to happen with our day. Thereâs no surprises Âany more. Weâve become quite stagnant. And I think thatâs why people love sport, because of the air of unpredictability,â he says. âItâs the last great arena entertainment.â
The main filmic touchstone for Next Goal Wins (which premieres in Australian cinemas on New Yearâs Day) would be Cool Runnings (1993), the unlikely true story of a Jamaican bobsled team, but Waititi also draws from genre classics such as Any Given Sunday and Rocky, sampling trusted tropes like the musical training montage. (His best one is set to Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears.)
Filming in Hawaii was an uplifting experience for the self-Âdescribed Polynesian Jew. âIt wasnât about death, or people being cruel to each other. Thematically, it was this simple idea, of getting a small win, and winning the game wasnât even their goal â their goal was to get a goal,â he says. âIt was a really sweet backbone.â
Waititi understands this because, growing up, he was as much an athlete as a nerd, fooling around with softball and soccer before discovering rugby league, then union. âThereâs something about doing exercise when you donât know youâre doing exercise,â he enthuses. âItâs all about the fun of throwing a ball around and trying to achieve something together.â (Whenever Waititi is in Auckland he joins his mates in a long-running weekend game of touch rugby. âAnd then throughout the week I work out every day. Obviously. I mean, look at me.â)
Auckland is where his kids live, too, so he spends as much time there as possible. Waititi met his first wife, producer Chelsea Winstanley, on the set of Boy in 2010, and they had two daughters, Matewa Kiritapu, 8, and his firstborn, Te Kainga OâTe Hinekahu, 11. (The latter is a derivative of his grandmotherâs name, but he jokes with American friends that it means âResurrection of Tupacâ or âMazda RX7âł) Waititi and Winstanley split in about 2018, and he married the pop star Ora in 2022.
He offers a novel method for balancing work with parenthood ⌠âLook, you just abandon them, and know that the experience will make them harder individuals later on in life. And itâs their problem,â he says. âIâm going to give them all of the things that they need, and Iâm going to leave behind a decent bank Âaccount for their therapy, and they will be just like me, and the cycle will continue.â
Jokes aside â I think heâs joking â school holidays are always his, and he brings the girls onto the set of every movie he makes. âThey know enough not to get in the way or touch anything that looks like it could kill you, and they know to be respectful and quiet when they need to. But theyâre just very comfortable around filmmakers, which Iâm really happy about, because eventually I hope they will get into the Âindustry. One more year,â he laughs, âthen they can leave school and come work for Dad.â
Theirs is certainly a different childhood than his. Growing up, he was a product of two worlds. His given names, for instance, were based on his appearance at birth: âTaika Davidâ if he looked Maori (after his Maori grandfather) and âDavid Taikaâ if he looked Pakeha (after his white grandfather). His parents split when he was five, so he bounced between his dadâs place in Waihau Bay, where he went by the surname Waititi, and his mum, eight hours drive away in Wellington, where he went by Cohen (the last name on his birth Âcertificate and passport).
Waititi was precocious, even charismatic. His mother Robin once told Radio New Zealand that people always wanted to know him, even as an infant: âIâd be on a bus with him, and he was that kind of baby who smiled at people, and next thing you know theyâre saying, âCan I hold your baby?â Heâs always been a charmer to the public eye.â
He describes himself as a cool, sporty, good-looking nerd, raised on whatever pop culture screened on the two TV channels New Zealand offered in the early 1980s, from M*A*S*H and Taxi to Eddie Murphy and Michael Jackson. He was well-read, too. When punished by his mum, he would likely be forced to analyse a set of William Blake poems.
He puts on a whimpering voice to describe their finances â âWe didnât have much monneeeyâ â explaining how his mum spent her days in the classroom but also worked in pubs, where he would sit sipping a raspberry lemonade, doodling drawings and writing stories. She took in Âironing and cleaned houses; he would help out, learning valuable lessons he imparts to his kids. âAnd to random people who come to my house,â he says. âIâll say, âHereâs a novel idea, wash this dish,â but people donât know how to do anything these days.â
âEvery single character Iâve ever written has been based on someone Iâve known or met or a story Iâve stolen from someone.â - Taika Waititi
He loved entertaining others, clearly, but also himself, recording little improvised radio plays on a tape deck â his own offbeat versions of ET and Indiana Jones and Star Wars. âGreat free stuff where you donât have any idea what the story is as youâre doing it,â he says. âYouâre just sort of making it up and enjoying the Âfreedom of playing god in this world where you can make people and characters do whatever you want.â
His other sphere of influence lay in Raukokore, the tiny town where his father lived. Although Boy is not autobiographical, itâs deeply personal insofar as itâs filmed in the house where he grew up, and where he lived a life similar to that portrayed in the story, surrounded by his recurring archetypes: warm grandmothers and worldly kids; staunch, stoic mums; and silly, stunted men. âEvery single character Iâve ever written has been based on someone Iâve known or met,â he says, âor a story Iâve stolen from someone.â
He grew to love drawing and painting, obsessed early on with reproducing the Sistine Chapel. During a 2011 TED Talk on creativity, Waititi describes his odd subject matter, from swastikas and fawns to a picture of an old lady going for a walk ⌠upon a sword ⌠with Robocop. âMy father was an outsider artist, even though he wouldnât know what that meant,â Waititi told the audience in Doha. âI love the naive. I love people who can see things through an innocent viewpoint. Itâs inspiring.â

It was an interesting time in New Zealand, too â a coming-of-age decade in which the Maori were rediscovering their culture. His area was poor, âbut only Âfinancially,â he says. âItâs very rich in terms of the Âpeople and the culture.â He learned kapa haka â the songs, dances and chants performed by competing tribes at cultural events, or to honour people at funerals and graduations â weddings, parties, Âanything. âMan, any excuse,â he explains. âA big part of doing them is to uplift your spirits.â
Photography was a passion, so I ask what he shot. âJust my penis. I sent them to people, but we didnât have phones, so I would print them out, post them. One of the first dick pics,â he says. Actually, his lens was trained on regular people. He watches us still â in airports, Ârestaurants. âOther times late at night, from a tree. Whatever it takes to get the story. You know that.â
He went to the Wellington state school Onslow College and did plays like Androcles and the Lion, A Midsummer Nightâs Dream and The Crucible. His crew of arty students eventually ended up on stage at Bats Theatre in the city, where they would perform haphazard comedy shows for years.
âTaika was always rebellious and wild in his comedy, which I loved,â says his high school mate Jackie van Beek, who became a longtime collaborator, including working with Waititi on a Tourism New Zealand campaign this year. âI remember he went through a phase of turning up in bars around town wearing wigs, and youâd try and sit down and have a drink with him but heâd be doing some weird character that would invariably turn up in some show down the track.â
He met more like-minded peers at Victoria University, including Jemaine Clement (whoâd later become co-creator of Flight of the Conchords). During a 2019 chat with actor Elijah Wood, Waititi Âdescribes he and Clement clocking one another from opposite sides of the library one day: a pair of Maoris experiencing hate at first sight, based on a mutual suspicion of cultural appropriation. (Clement was wearing a traditional tapa cloth Samoan shirt, and Waititi was like: âThis motherf---erâs not Samoan.â Meanwhile, Waititi was wearing a Rastafarian beanie, and Clement was like, âThis Âmotherf---erâs not Jamaican.â)

But they eventually bonded over Blackadder and Fawlty Towers, and especially Kenny Everett, and did comedy shows together everywhere from Edinburgh to Melbourne. Waititi was almost itinerant, spending months at a time busking, or living in a commune in Berlin. He acted in a few small films, and then â while playing a stripper on a bad TV show â realised he wanted to try life behind the camera. âI became tired of being told what to do and ordered around,â he told Wellingtonâs Dominion Post in 2004. âI remember sitting around in the green room in my G-string Âthinking, âWhy am I doing this? Just helping someone else to realise their dream.âââ
He did two strong short films, then directed his first feature â Eagle vs Shark (2007) â when he was 32. He brought his mates along (Clement, starring with Waititiâs then-girlfriend Loren Horsley), setting something of a pattern in his career: hiring friends instead of constantly navigating new working relationships. âIf you look at things Iâm doing,â he tells me, âthereâs Âalways a few common denominators.â
Sam Neill says Waititi is the exemplar of a new New Zealand humour. âThe basis of it is this: weâre just a little bit crap at things.â
This gang of collaborators shares a common Kiwi vibe, too, which his longtime friend, actor Rhys Darby, once coined âthe comedy of the mundaneâ. Their new TV show, Our Flag Means Death, for example, leans heavily into the mundanity of pirate life â what happens on those long days at sea when the crew arenât unsheathing swords from scabbards or burying treasure.

Sam Neill, who first met Waititi when starring in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, says Waititi is the exemplar of a new New Zealand humour. âAnd I think the basis of it is this,â says Neill. âWeâre just a little bit crap at things, and that in itself is funny.â After all, Neill asks, what is What We Do in The Shadows (2014) if not a film (then later a TV show) about a bunch of vampires who are pretty crap at being vampires, Âliving in a pretty crappy house, not quite getting busted by crappy local cops? âNew Zealand often gets named as the least corrupt country in the world, and I think itâs just that we would be pretty crap at being corrupt,â Neill says. âWe donât have the capacity for it.â
Waititiâs whimsy also spurns the dominant on-screen oeuvre of his homeland â the so-called âcinema of Âuneaseâ exemplified by the brutality of Once Were Warriors (1994) and the emotional peril of The Piano (1993). Waititi still explores pathos and pain, but through laughter and weirdness. âTaika feels to me like an Âantidote to that dark aspect, and a gift somehow,â Neill says. âAnd Iâm grateful for that.â
-----------------------------------------------
Something happened to Taika Waititi when he was about 11 â something he doesnât go into with Good Weekend, but which he considered a betrayal by the adults in his life. He Âmentioned it only recently â not the Âmoment itself, but the lesson he learnt: âThat you cannot and must not rely on grown-ups to help you â youâre basically in the world alone, and youâre gonna die alone, and youâve just gotta make it all for yourself,â he told Irish podcast host James Brown. âI basically never forgave people in positions of responsibility.â
What does that mean in his work? First, his finest films tend to reflect the clarity of mind possessed by children, and the unseen worlds they create â fantasies conjured up as a way to understand or overcome. (His mum once summed up the main Âmessage of Boy: âThe Âunconditional love you get from your children, and how many of us waste that, and donât know what weâve got.â)
Second, heâs suited to movie-making â âRussian roulette with artâ â because heâs drawn to disruptive force and chaos. And that in turn produces creative defiance: allowing him to reinvigorate the Marvel Universe by making superheroes fallible, or tell a Holocaust story by making fun of Hitler. âWhenever I have to deal with someone whoâs a boss, or in charge, I challenge them,â he told Brown, âand I really do take whatever they say with a pinch of salt.â
Itâs no surprise then that Waititi was comfortable leaping from independent films to the vast complexity of Hollywood blockbusters. He loves the challenge of coordinating a thousand interlocking parts, requiring an army of experts in vocations as diverse as construction, sound, art, performance and logistics. âI delegate a lot,â he says, âand share the load with a lot of people.â
âThis is a cool concept, being able to Âafford whatever I want, as opposed to sleeping on couches until I was 35.â - Taika Waititi
But the buck stops with him. Time magazine named Waititi one of its Most Influential 100 People of 2022. âYou can tell that a film was made by Taika Waititi the same way you can tell a piece was painted by Picasso,â wrote Sacha Baron Cohen. Compassionate but comic. Satirical but watchable. Rockstar but auteur. âActually, sorry, but this guyâs really starting to piss me off,â Cohen concluded. âCan someone else write this piece?â
Directing Chris Hemsworth in 2017 in Thor: Ragnarok, which grossed more than $1.3 billion at the box office. (Alamy)
Iâm curious to know how he stays grounded amid such adulation. Coming into the game late, he says, helped immensely. After all, Waititi was 40 by the time he left New Zealand to do Thor: Ragnarok. âIf you let things go to your head, then it means youâve struggled to find out who you are,â he says. âBut Iâve always felt very comfortable with who I am.â Hollywood access and acclaim â and the pay cheques â donât erase memories of poverty, either. âItâs more like, âOh, this is a cool concept, being able to Âafford whatever I want, as opposed to sleeping on couches until I was 35.âââ Small towns and strong tribes keep him in check, too. âYou know you canât piss around and be a fool, because youâre going to embarrass your family,â he says. âHasnât stopped me, though.â
Sam Neill says there was never any doubt Waititi would be able to steer a major movie with energy and imagination. âItâs no accident that the whole world wants Taika,â he says. âBut his seductiveness comes with its own dangers. You can spread yourself a bit thin. The temptation will be to do more, more, more. Thatâll be interesting to watch.â
Indeed, I find myself vicariously stressed out over the list of potential projects in Waititiâs future. A Roald Dahl animated series for Netflix. An Apple TV show based on the 1981 film Time Bandits. A sequel to What We Do In The Shadows. A reboot of Flash Gordon. A gonzo horror comedy, The Auteur, starring Jude Law. Adapting a cult graphic novel, The Incal, as a feature. A streaming series based on the novel Interior Chinatown. A film based on a Kazuo Ishiguro bestseller. Plus bringing to life the wildly popular Akira comic books. Oh, and for good measure, a new instalment of Star Wars, which heâs already warned the world will be ⌠different.
âItâs going to change things,â he told Good Morning America. âItâs going to change what you guys know and expect.â
Did I say I was stressed for Waititi? I meant physically sick.
âWellâŚâ he qualifies, âsome of those things Iâm just producing, so I come up with an idea or someone comes to me with an idea, and I shape how âitâs this kind of showâ and âhereâs how we can get it made.â Itâs easier for me to have a part in those things and feel like Iâve had a meaningful role in the creative process, but also not having to do what Iâve always done, which is trying to control everything.â
In the 2014 mockumentary horror film What We Do in the Shadows, which he co-directed with Jemaine Clement. (Alamy)
What about moving away from the niche New Zealand settings he represented so well in his early work? How does he stay connected to his roots? âI think you just need to know where youâre from,â he says, âand just donât forget that.â
They certainly havenât forgotten him.
Jasmin McSweeney sits in her office at the New Zealand Film Commission in Wellington, surrounded by promotional posters Waititi signed for her two decades ago, when she was tasked with promoting his nascent talent. Now the organisationâs marketing chief, she talks to me after visiting the heart of thriving âWellywoodâ, overseeing the traditional karakia prayer on the set of a new movie starring Geoffrey Rush.
Waititi isnât the first great Kiwi filmmaker â dual Oscar-winner Jane Campion and blockbuster king Peter Jackson come to mind â yet his particular ascendance, she says, has spurred unparalleled enthusiasm. âTaika gave everyone here confidence. He always says, âDonât sit around waiting for people to say, you can do this.â Just do it, because he just did it. Thatâs the Taika effect.â
-----------------------------------------------
Taika David Waititi is known for wearing everything from technicolour dreamcoats to pineapple print rompers, and today heâs wearing a roomy teal and white Isabel Marant jumper. The mohair garment has the same wispy frizz as his hair, which curls like a wave of grey steel wool, and connects with a shorn salty beard.
A stylish silver fox, it wouldnât surprise anyone if he suddenly announced he was launching a fashion label. Heâs definitely a commercial animal, to the point of directing television commercials for Coke and Amazon, along with a fabulous 2023 spot for Belvedere vodka starring Daniel Craig. He also joined forces with a beverage company in Finland (where âtaikaâ means âmagicâ) to release his coffee drinks. Announcing the partnership on social media, he flagged that he would be doing more of this kind of stuff, too (âSoz not sozâ).
Waititi has long been sick of reverent portrayals of Indigenous people talking to spirits.
Thereâs substance behind the swank. Fashion is a creative outlet but heâs also bought sewing machines in the past with the intention of designing and making clothes, and comes from a family of tailors. âI learnt how to sew a button on when I was very young,â he says. âI learnt how to fix holes or patches in your clothes, and darn things.â
And while he gallivants around the globe watching Wimbledon or modelling for Hermès at New York Fashion Week, all that glamour belies a depth of purpose, particularly when it comes to Indigenous representation.
Thereâs a moment in his new movie where a Samoan player realises that their Dutch coach, played by Michael Fassbender, is emotionally struggling, and he offers a lament for white people: âThey need us.â I canât help but think Waititi meant something more by that line â maybe that First Nations people have Âwisdom to offer if others will just listen?
âWeeelllll, a little bit âŚâ he says â but from his intonation, and what he says next, Iâm dead wrong. Waititi has long been sick of reverent Âportrayals of Indigenous people talking to kehua (spirits), or riding a ghost waka (phantom canoe), or playing a flute on a mountain. âAlways the boring characters,â he says. âTheyâve got no real contemporary relationship with the world, because theyâre always living in the past in their spiritual ways.â
A scene from Next Goal Wins, filmed earlier this year. (Alamy)
Heâs part of a vanguard consciously poking fun at those stereotypes. Another is the Navajo writer and director Billy Luther, who met Waititi at Sundance Film Festival back in 2003, along with Reservation Dogs co-creator Sterlin Harjo. âWe were this group of outsiders trying to make films, when nobody was really biting,â says Luther. âIt was a different time. The really cool thing about it now is weâre all working. We persevered. We didnât give up. We slept on each otherâs couches and hung out. Itâs like family.â
Waititi has power now, and is known for using Indigenous interns wherever possible (âbecause there werenât those opportunities when I was growing upâ), making important introductions, offering feedback on scripts, and lending his name to projects through executive producer credits, too, which he did for Lutherâs new feature film, Frybread Face and Me (2023).
He called Luther back from the set of Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) to offer advice on working with child actors â âDonât box them into the characters youâve Âcreated,â he said, âlet them naturally figure it out on their ownâ â but itâs definitely harder to get Waititi on the phone these days. âHeâs a little bitch,â Luther says, laughing. âNah, thereâs nothing like him. Heâs a genius. You just knew he was going to be something. I just knew it. Heâs my brother.â
Iâve been asked to explicitly avoid political questions in this interview, probably because Waititi tends to back so many causes, from child poverty and teenage suicide to a campaign protesting offshore gas and oil exploration near his tribal lands. But itâs hard to ignore his recent Instagram post, sharing a viral video about the Voice to Parliament referendum starring Indigenous Aussie rapper Adam Briggs. After all, we speak only two days after the proposal is defeated. âYeah, sad to say but, Australia, you really shat the bed on that one,â Waititi says, pausing. âBut go see my movie!â
About that movie â the early reviews arenât great. IndieWire called it a misfire, too wrapped in its quirks to develop its arcs, with Waititiâs directorial voice drowning out his characters, while The Guardian called it âa shoddily made and strikingly unfunny attempt to tell an interesting story in an uninteresting wayâ. I want to know how he moves past that kind of criticism. âFor a start, I never read reviews,â he says, concerned only with the opinion of people who paid for admission, never professional appraisals. âItâs not important to me. I know Iâm good at what I do.â
Criticism that Indigenous concepts werenât sufficiently explained in Next Goal Wins gets his back up a little, though. The filmâs protagonist, Jaiyah Saelua, the first transgender football player in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match, is faâafafine â an American Samoan identifier for someone with fluid genders â but there wasnât much exposition of this concept in the film. âThatâs not my job,â Waititi says. âItâs not a movie where I have to explain every facet of Samoan culture to an audience. Our job is to retain our culture, and present a story thatâs inherently Polynesian, and if you donât like it, you can go and watch any number of those other movies out there, 99 per cent of which are terrible.â
*notes: (there is video clip in the article)
Waititi sounds momentarily cranky, but heâs mostly unflappable and hilarious. Heâs the kind of guy who prefers âCorrectumundo bro!â to âYesâ. When our video connection is too laggy, he plays up to it by periodically pretending to be frozen, sitting perfectly still, mouth open, his big shifting eyeballs the only giveaway.
Heâs at his best on set. Saelua sat next to him in Honolulu while filming the joyous soccer sequences. âHeâs so chill. He just let the actors do their thing, giving them creative freedom, barely interjecting unless it was something important. His style matches the vibe of the Pacific people. Weâre a very funny people. We like to laugh. He just fit perfectly.â
People do seem to love working alongside him, citing his ability to make productions fresh and unpredictable and funny. Chris Hemsworth once said that Waititiâs favourite gag is to âforgetâ that his microphone is switched on, so he can go on a pantomime rant for all to hear â usually about his disastrous Australian lead actor â only to ârememberâ that heâs wired and the whole crew is listening.
âI wouldnât know about that, because I donât listen to what other people say about anything â Iâve told you this,â Waititi says. âI just try to have fun when thereâs time to have fun. And when you do that, and you bring people together, theyâre more willing to go the extra mile for you, and theyâre more willing to believe in the thing that youâre trying to do.â
Yes, he plays music between takes, and dances out of his directorâs chair, but itâs really all about relaxing amid the immense pressure and intense privilege of making movies. âDo you know how hard it is just to get anything financed or green-lit, then getting a crew, Âgetting producers to put all the pieces together, and then making it to set?â Waititi asks. âItâs a real gift, even to be working, and I feel like I have to remind Âpeople of that: enjoy this moment.â

Previous Chapter // Series Masterlist // Next Chapter
Jakeâs had a weird day, to say the least. Heâd started the morning still unsure if he was truly ready to trust Bugs with his story, or at least the portion related to his knee injury. She hadnât pushed, sheâd just sat there and listened to him. Sure sheâd been adamant from the very beginning that she was just interested in helping him heal but heâd heard that song before from more familiar birds. There are only so many times you can get stabbed in the back before you start walking backward to avoid it. On top of that, what Bugs had revealed today just twisted the knife where it stuck. Not only had Dr. Hanover helped his coach guilt him into playing while injured, but heâd blatantly lied to Jake and possibly even his coach about Jakeâs recovery timeline. The more Jake thought about it, the more he figured that his coach was probably in on the lie. Coach wanted Jake exactly where he envisioned him, regardless of Jakeâs goals, his ambitions. He could have been the second coming of Wayne Gretzky himself and he wasnât sure his coach would have cared. That was the thing about Coach (find a name you dolt), once he put you in a box and created his master plan for your life, your career, nothing else could get in the way of that. The problem was that heâd created a new box for Jake, but this time it was one that Jake hated. It went against everything that Jake was. And if heâd needed any more reasons to leave, now he had them.
But now he was here and he had Bugs. He could trust her. If he wasnât already sure, he was when heâd seen her rage. Sheâd burned so fiercely heâd been caught between awe and fear, not that heâd ever admit that to anyone. Heâd been on the receiving end of her anger a few times and while it had caught him off guard at first heâd grown to enjoy riling her up. But the righteous fire in her eyes as she cursed out Dr. Hanover, demanding to know what heâd done to Jake as if weighing his sins before delivering swift hard justice, was something heâd never experienced before. She wanted to fight⌠for him. Heâd had plenty of physicians in the past who spouted the same Hippocratic oath bullshit but heâd never seen someone like Bugs. Maybe it was her youth. She was the same age as him, this was her first big gig, and she still had passion for what she did, unlike the crusty old men that Jake usually found himself in the care of. He wasnât too proud to admit that his cock had twitched in his sweats at the display of such fierce loyalty, at the fire of devotion in her eyes. It made him want to drop to his knees and worship her, injury be damned.
Then sheâd cried. His heart clenched painfully in his chest as he remembers looking up to see the silent tears streaming down her cheeks, the pain in her eyes haunting him. Pain for him. Not pity, but empathy. Heâd wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and hold her. Heâd settled for holding her hands. It was then that he realized that if he saw her cry again? Whoever was responsible for her tears was going to get put in the fucking ground. No one makes his Bunny cry. He clenches his fist around the weight in his hand unconsciously. Heâs in the weight room working his arms since heâs on strict orders to keep off his leg until scans can be scheduled and tests can be run.
His phone dings and he glances at the screen to see Maverickâs name pop up. He sets down the weight to snag his phone from where itâs sitting on the gym phone next to the bench. âCYCLONEâS OFFICE NOW. HURRY.â The text is all caps and nothing like what he normally receives from his older coach. The warning sirens go off in Jakeâs brain even as the rational part of his brain tries to convince him that nothingâs wrong. You mentioned that you were planning to meet with Mav and Cyclone ASAP to fill them in on his condition. They probably just wanted him to be present. Still, he canât shake the feeling that somethingâs wrong. He barely stops to rack the dumbbell before he moves for the elevator as fast as he can. His knee groans in protest, strapped into the brace Bugs put on it. He does his best to move quickly, smashing the buttons and succumbing to the waiting game. Most of the facilities in the arena were on the ground floor but Cycloneâs office was one of the few located on the second floor. He knows Bugs would chew him out for taking the stairs even if they were the quicker option. Finally, the doors slide open and Jake makes his way down the hallway towards the door at the end. Heâs not even halfway there, however, when he hears the muffled shouting. His blood runs cold. The reason for the urgency in Maverickâs text suddenly becomes clear. Jake takes a shuddering breath before he starts running, knee be damned. He groans in thanks when he finds the door unlocked but the venom-filled words filtering from the other side are finally clearly audible.
âI KNEW hiring you was a mistake and look what youâve done! You canât even do your fucking job!â Jakeâs heard enough. He shoves the door open so hard he almost takes it off its hinges.
âHEY!â His voice is pure fury. Cyclone is red in the face and leaning over his desk, an accusatory finger waving in your face where youâre sitting across from him. He turns his attention to Jake at the outburst. You donât even flinch at the sound of the door and Jakeâs heart squeezes in concern at your lack of reaction until he watches the harsh tension of your shoulders relax a little.
He storms across the room, stepping in front of you, doing his best to shield you from the wrath rolling off Cyclone. His finger is inches from Jakeâs cheek. âThis isnât her fault, so donât you go accusing her as if it is.â Heâs furious, seething at the complete and total lack of professionalism his boss is exhibiting. Heâs starting to wonder if heâs gone from the frying pan into the fire when Cyclone decides to make things worse.
âThatâs not up to you, son. Sheâs fired, effective immediately. This is gross negligence, sheâs lucky we donât sue.â If he wasnât so angry, Jake might laugh in his face at that. Heâs no lawyer but he knows that thereâs not even a hint of gross negligence at play when it comes to you.
âNo, sheâs not. The only way Iâm getting treated is if sheâs the one to do it.â Jake glares at Cyclone, his mouth twisting into a cruel smirk as his eyes gleam. Cyclone hasnât realized it quite yet but he doesnât have control of the puck in this scenario, itâs confidently in Jakeâs. âI know Iâve cost you all a pretty penny that you currently donât have so not only can you not afford to fire me, but you need me to play, and the only way thatâs going to happen is if my leg heals, and Iâm telling you right now that thatâs not happening unless Bugs is my physician. If you want to blame someone?â He tilts his head, daring Cyclone to try this shit again. âIâm feeling pretty good about my chances of suing my last physician and coach for a lot more than gross negligence.â He watches Cycloneâs eyes dart around nervously and Jake knows heâs won. âBut Bugs and I are a package deal. If I stay, she stays, and Iâm staying.â Some would call it cocky but Jake knows itâs not. Itâs calculated, and ambitious. This is the Jake Seresin his opponents see on the ice. This is the Hangman, he gets what he wants and he doesnât take no for an answer. Cyclone nods silently and Jake lowers his hackles, anger melting into concern for you. Youâve been completely silent throughout this entire exchange almost as if youâre not even here. He turns around to face you and his heart shatters into a thousand pieces. Your eyes are glazed over, your expression vacant, and youâre completely checked out of whatâs going on. He prays itâs because youâre barricaded somewhere safe, protecting yourself instead of lost in the walls of your mind. He leans in close, doing his best to take up your entire field of vision to shield you from your fear in any way he knows. He reaches out gently, afraid to startle you as he slides his hands into yours, using them to gently help you to your feet. Your body follows, and heâs thankful you still have control of your faculties, not that heâd hesitate to scoop you into his arms and carry you out of this hellhole himself. âCome on, Bunny. â He whispers to you placing a hand on the small of your back. He keeps the other laced with yours as he slowly, gently guides you out of Cycloneâs office, ignoring the other two men in the room.
He knows he should get you somewhere private, somewhere safe before he tries to get through to you but he has no idea how long youâve been in there and speed seems of the essence. He stops halfway down the hallway, turning to place his back to the office, protective, shielding you as he reaches to cup your jaw and stroke his thumb across your cheek. He searches your eyes, trying to keep the fear out of his own at the glazed-over and empty look in yours. âBunny? Hey Bunny, come back to me, baby. I know youâre in there, Bunny, come on.â
Heâs not sure how long he stands there whispering soft coaxings and reassurances to you. The worry rising in his mind and making his heart race threatens to take him under too because itâs been far too long when finally he watches the light return to your eyes. âThere you are, Bunny. You okay, baby?â He canât even be bothered with wondering when he started calling you baby. The relief rushing through him is overwhelming and he almost doesnât catch you as your knees buckle suddenly. He throws an arm around your waist and leans the two of you against the wall, not trusting himself to keep you both upright. You nod up at him, still silent before you call his name and your voice is almost unrecognizable as it croaks out and he almost sobs at the sound. âYeah, baby? Iâm right here, Bunny.â He wants you to know that youâre safe now, that heâs not going to let anything happen to you, that you donât have to be afraid of anything, least of all Cyclone.
âWhat were you- Howâd you- Whyâd you do that?â You trip over your words and Jake shakes his head gently. His heart aches at the idea that you wouldnât expect him to defend you after everything youâd done for him.
âItâs like I said this morning, Bunny. We make a good team. You really think Iâd let you get away when weâre just getting started?â Your eyes warm despite the apprehension he still sees in them and he feels the sudden urge to kiss that apprehension away. Heâs taken aback at his strong feelings. When did that happen? You werenât even his friend yesterday and now heâs putting his job on the line for you and wanting to kiss you here in the hallway outside his bossâs office. He doesnât have long to consider these questions as the door down the hall opens again and you step out of his arms as Maverick comes walking towards the two of you. He has to fight every impulse to not pull you back to him, Maverick be damned but he puts on his most professional smile as he turns to face his coach just as he claps a hand on Jakeâs shoulder.

Back in the old Twitter days, I used to summon acespec creators to join me in a thread of their own acespec OCs with the goal of meeting more ace creators, their OCs, their projects and making friends! I thought it would be a great idea to bring the event to Tumblr this time... WITH NEW RULES!
So, during the ACE WEEK 2023, I want you to show the world your ACESPEC ORIGINAL CHARACTERS!
I want to see artwork of them, especially if it's made by you, and please add some cool info about them, it can be any silly detail, but I encourage you to talk about their asexuality and experiences, and it would be super interesting to know if your own asexuality affected the creation of the character. Tell us about their story, if they have any, and if they belong to a project you are working on. This will take place during the whole week, so no rush. I'll be reblogging pretty much everything with my side martaslavendergarden
RULES:
ABSOLUTE RESPECT. The asexual spectrum is full of different experiences, all valid. If I catch you trying to invalidate any creator or character, be sure I'll go John Wick. Also, I'm fucking tired of the invasion ace meme because I'm very punk and absolutely dislike any imperialist shit, so please, let's keep this event free of white supremacist shit. Thank you.
USE THE TAGS. Use the tags #acespecoc and #aceweek2023 so your post can be found!
LIKE AND REBLOG! This event's main goal is to find other acespec creators and not just make friends but also to create a cool community, so I encourage you to spread out your likes, cast reblogs and write some beautiful comments in the tags when reblogging.
Some questions you may have:
The identity of my OC is complex or tagless. SOUNDS COOL TO ME. Is their experience somewhere in the asexual spectrum? You can join the party and I encourage you to talk about it! I'm sure they'll be a super interesting character.
Marta, I have 500 acespec OCs. SAME. You can join all of the characters in one single post or make several of them and post them during the week, organise it yourself, no problemo.
Marta! I'm not an artist! But I have these cute picrews of my ace ocs. Can I participate in the event? ABSOLUTELY! Also, you can share the picrew you used just in case someone loves it and wants to make their OCs too.
Marta, I have this comic/book/whatever featuring my acespec OC. Can I unapologetically use this event to promote it? GO FOR IT.
Oh, Marta, I'm not acespec but I have this ace OC... Can I join the party anyway? THE MORE THE MERRIER! And I'm sure you'll learn a lot from other artists and their acespec OCs.
Marta, I have this ace headcannon of this particular character. Can I join the event? Not today, this event is only for YOUR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS created by yourself.
MARTA, I have this acespec OC I made in a videogame through character creation or whatever. Absolutely valid to me. Please provide a screenshot of your cutie and all their background story if you can.
I made this AI/NFTSHIT stuff. FUCK OFF.
Feel free to DM me if you have any doubts. Also, spread the word, I want to see many acespec OCs on Ace Week on this site!

Published: 9-15-2024 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY Cubic Dynamics by John B. Cube and Marcel Dusims forged the future with furnishings that were minimalist in design and maximalist in erudite pretension. Generations later, the company continues to produce edge-of-cutting-edge designs. Use the Cubic Dynamics Kitbash (Simmons, 2023-2024) collection to set up corporate, exposition, and office environments. Envisioned as an add-on to the Cubic Dynamics set (EA/Maxis, archived at GOS), it features minimalist and retro-futuristic objects. Find more CC on this site under the #co2cdkseries tag. Read the Backstory and âDev Notesâ HERE. Another DIY-style set with plenty of mix-n-match options. The ART DEPARTMENT is where your creative sim employees dream up the award-winning designs, layouts, color schemes, and advertising that your company is known for. Make sure they have a proper place to do their work! This set includes edits of 2 older CC sets â see the compatibility note at the end of this post.

Beta Editor Overview
This post was originally made on January 7, 2023, and was last updated on January 14, 2023.
After seeing quite a few posts expressing confusion/frustration over the beta editor, trying to understand new features and find where old options have moved to, I thought I'd write up an overview of the new editor, showing the various changes it has from legacy.
My main goal is to show people that the new editor not nearly as bad as they may have heard. You'll have a few days of weirdness and confusion, and then you'll be used to it. The beta editor does have some bugs... but so does the legacy editor. We've all just gotten used to legacy and know how to work around its quirks. After a couple weeks with beta, you'll be familiar with it and know how to do the same.
FAQ
I'm putting this part above the read more to quickly answer the questions I see asked most often.
How do I cut posts with the new editor? â You need to get an extension called XKit Rewritten and use Trim Reblogs. Once you have that installed, save the post to your drafts and click the scissors icon along the bottom of the post. This will open a window that allows you to remove earlier reblogs. If you run into funky issues, see my ginormous post here.
Where is blockquote? â Blockquote is now called indented. There are two ways to reach it. Option 1: select your text, open the dropdown menu, and choose indented. Option 2: type / on an empty line, select indented, and type your text.
Where is small text? â Select your text and click the small S in brackets. I recommend doing this at the end of writing your post, as it can be finicky otherwise. The old keyboard shortcut for small text does not work anymore; the new shortcut is CTRL/CMD + COMMA.
Where are bullets? â Select your text, open the dropdown menu, and choose bulleted list. You can also type / on an empty line and select/type bulleted list. Additionally, you can type * and a space on an empty line to autoformat to bullets, or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL/CMD + SHIFT + 8.
How do I disable reblogs on a post? â Click the settings icon in the top right, click the dropdown next to "Who can reblog?" and select "no one." (Please note that while it says those mentioned in a post can always reblog, I've found this to be broken. At the moment you should only disable reblogs if you don't want anyone reblogging it.)
Why does adding a gif to a post include the URL? â Inserting an image via link will automatically include that URL underneath the image in the final post (though it won't display in the editor). You can remove this by hovering over the image and clicking the chain link icon in the bottom left. Select the URL in the field there, delete it, and click Done.
How do I add alt text to an image? â Add your image, hover over it, click the three dots in the bottom right corner, and click "update image description."
Adding Elements
When you click on an empty line, options for things to add to your post will appear on the right, similar to legacy.
In order, these are:
Image
Gif search
Link
Audio
Video
Read more
All of these work almost exactly as they have previously, except for adding an image. Clicking that will give you this, which resembles a standalone photo post of the old format.
You can then upload directly from your computer, or paste a URL, as before. If you insert an image via URL, that link will be visible just below the image in your final post, though it won't show up like that in the editor. It'll look like this.
If you don't want this, make sure to click the link icon at the bottom left of the image and delete the URL there.
Back to the image you added in the text editor! Hovering over the image will give these options.
The squares icon in the top left lets you click and drag the image, and you can drag images next to each other to stack them horizontally. The X in the top right will remove the image from your post. The link icon in the bottom left shows the image URL, and will only appear if you inserted the image via link. And the dots in the bottom right allow you to add alt text to your image -- click the dots, then click Update image description.
Formatting Text
Now! If you type up some text and then select it, formatting options will pop up. This is similar to legacy, but now there's a dropdown menu.
Here's what's in the dropdown.
Here's what they all look like in a post.
Regular is plain text. Bigger is the equivalent of the headline option on the legacy editor. Biggest is the equivalent of the main title, but you can have more than one in a single post now.
Quote turns text into a serif font and increases the font size. If you type up a long quote, the font size will shrink.
Chat switches to a more computer-looking font.
Lucille increases the font size and is a cursive font.
Indented is blockquote. It looks a tiny bit different on the dash now, with some more spacing on the top and bottom, but it's functionally the same.
Bulleted and numbered lists are self-explanatory. You can also start a bulleted list by starting an empty line of regular text with * and a space, and a numbered line by starting an empty line with 1 and a space. Additionally, the keyboard shortcuts CTRL/CMD + SHIFT + 7 for numbered list and CTRL/CMD + SHIFT + 8 for bulleted list still work.
You can also access these same options (and some others) by typing a slash onto the start of an empty line. A menu will pop up, allowing you to either click the one you want or simply type the one you want and hit enter.
If you want to quickly add a title, an indented blockquote, or anything like that, this is the fastest way to do it.
Hopping back to the rest of these options now!
To the right of the drop down, these options are:
Strikethrough
Bold
Italics
Small
Link
Color
Most of these are self-explanatory. Keyboard shortcuts for bold and italics work as before. The old keyboard shortcut for small text no longer works, but CTRL/CMD + COMMA does.
Link works the same as it always has, and the keyboard shortcut of CTRL/CMD + K works as well. Additionally, if you have text selected and just paste in a URL, it will insert as a hyperlink from that selected text.
Color lets you change the color of your text to a few presets. Just click the paint bucket, and pick the color you want.
Post Settings
Back out to the main editor now, here's what under the settings icon in the top right.
Custom URL lets you set a custom URL for your post, if you want it to be something other than a string of numbers.
Content source is the source link and works similarly to how it did in legacy.
Post date is not the scheduler! That's under the post button dropdown and is fairly straightforward. But this option lets you backdate a post, setting the date to sometime earlier than you actually made. Gonna be completely honest, I haven't used this at all and don't entirely see the point, but if you want to play around with it, there it is.
Who can reblog? Is one of my favorite features. Opening that dropdown lets you disable reblogs on your post. The reblog button will be grayed out on the dash. (After you've made the post, you can edit to turn reblogs back on if you need to.)
While this does say that anyone mentioned can always reblog, I've found this to be broken in my testing -- I have submitted a ticket to staff, so hopefully they're working on it. It would be a godsend for roleplayers, since it would restrict reblogs to only the partner that you @-mentioned in your starter and keep randos from reblogging your threads.
Lastly, the text editor lets you switch to HTML or Markdown for your post, if you prefer one of those. They are similar to how they worked in legacy.
Community Labels
Along the bottom of the editor, you'll see the close button, the post button with the same dropdown as in legacy, and another dropdown that reads Everyone by default. Here's what that one looks like.
This is where you can manage your community labels, which is a fairly new feature from Tumblr. By default, your post will be marked as being for everyone. However, if your post contains any of the content listed, you should click to toggle that one on. This will hide your post from anyone who has that label switched off in their settings.
To check what you have on or off in your settings, look for this underneath your filtered tags:
Tags
Tags work the same as before. The only notable difference is that you can now edit inside tags without having to completely delete them. Just click on the text where you want your cursor to be.
You can rearrange tags with click and drag as before. Just be sure to click on the blue space around the text, rather than on the text itself.
Autosaving
The beta editor will automatically save your posts! It's autosaving whenever you see this pop up at the bottom of your screen, every minute or so.
If the editor gets closed unexpectedly, the last autosave of your post will go into your drafts. As someone who's lost many replies to unexpected tab closures, this is a godsend.
Just know that this only works if something external closes the editor. If you click the close button yourself, the post will disappear.
Miscellaneous Differences
You can now have more than one main title (Biggest) in your post.
You can no longer have multiple levels of bullet points.
You can no longer have paragraph breaks within your blockquote/indented text (though it's been that way for a while). To get a similar look in your blockquote, hold down shift and press enter twice (or use <br><br> in your HTML).
Previewing a post on your blog is still possible, but in a different location. Go to a post in your drafts, click the three dots in the top right, and click preview.
The editor will still remember your tags, but capitalization will be removed, which might be an aesthetic annoyance.
The editor will only suggest tags that start with your search. For example, if your ask memes tag is send me stuff ( ask memes ) â typing "send me stuff" in the tags box will suggest this tag for you, while typing "ask memes" will not.
When making or reblogging a post, your most recently used sideblog will be up by default; this is different from the legacy editor, which would always open your primary blog. Be mindful of things going onto the correct blogs!
More items may be added here as I spot them. Feel free to send any observations of your own if you have them.
Known Glitches
Because the beta editor is still known to be buggy, I thought I'd document the glitches I am aware of. I have reported these to staff using their feedback option and highly recommend that you politely do the same if these annoy you.
I've heard from several people that using CTRL/CMD + Z to undo caused their entire post to be erased. This has not personally happened to me, but I've heard it enough times that I feel I should share it here.
Using CTRL/CMD + A to select your entire post can be finicky. Clicking and dragging across the entire post is more reliable.
Typing with small text can be finicky and won't always apply correctly. I highly recommend applying the small text after everything is written, just to save some headache.
Generally, text formatting and paragraph blocks can behave oddly, especially when trying to select more than one. This is also a problem I've had with the legacy editor, but my experiences are not universal, so it may be a hindrance to you.
Customizing Beta/NPF Elements on your Theme
This is only for those of you who want to know how to change the way certain new beta elements look on their blog theme. If that's not you, you can stop reading here!
These are the elements and classes you want to customize in your CSS:
BIGGER - h2
BIGGEST - h1
QUOTE - .npf_quote
CHAT - .npf_chat
LUCILLE - .npf_quirky
RED TEXT - .npf_color_joey
ORANGE TEXT - .npf_color_monica
PURPLE TEXT - .npf_color_chandler
YELLOW TEXT - .npf_color_phoebe
BLUE TEXT - .npf_color_ross
PINK TEXT - .npf_color_niles
Colored text that isn't one of the default colors from Tumblr will just use <span> to assign a custom hex code, and can usually be targeted that way. You may need to use the !important property to override some of these default styles.

My First "Viral" Post
Like, 20 people told me to submit my Brady Bunch GIFset to @world-heritage-posts and hundreds more tagged it #worldheritagepost.
So I was like, "OKAY OKAY, I'll submit it!"
And they never posted it.
Which is completely fine!
WHP, it's cool. We're cool. I don't need World Heritage Post reblogs.
I have reblogs at home.
(my reblogs at home)
I am definitely *NOT* going to do the "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM???" thing.
I only do cool and funny "Don't you know who I am?" interactions like Tony Hawk.
But when I submitted the post it reminded me of an even earlier time on Tumblr when there were only a few people who could make a post go viral.
The main one was called @thedailywhat. If something got posted there, it could get HUNDREDS of notes.
HUNDREDS!!!!
Oh, that's another funny thing. Several people commented "Why does this only have 20K notes!!???"
There are currently 135 million active users on Tumblr and the site got roughly 2.4 billion visits in 2023.
In all of 2010 the entire site got 50 million visitors. Not users. Just people who went to a Tumblr address during that entire year.
In any case, if you thought you created something cool and you wanted more than 10 people to see it, you had to submit your cool thing to The Daily What. It was the first Tumblr to reach 100,000 followers which was more than the actual founder of Tumblr had at the time.
It was run by a single person but he was very private and never revealed his name.
His emails were very cryptic.
I'm pretty sure he sold the site and went to live on a beach or something. But whoever bought it did not understand how to run the blog and the final post was in 2013.
I'm not surprised the new owner crashed and burned. Johnny Internets was irreplaceable. He really understood what would connect with people. Nearly everything he posted would gain decent popularity. I'm not sure people realize how much of a skill curating content can be and how hard it is to post popular things with consistency.
He would reject a lot of content outright and was very picky about what went on his Tumblr. But when he actually posted something you made, it was almost guaranteed to go viral.
Well, viral relative to the time period.
I suspect I submitted nearly a hundred things before he finally agreed to reblog me. And I still remember the first thing I submitted that he liked.
I posted this in 2010. How many notes do you think it got?
Probably a million, right?
No less than 100K.
I mean, look at how cute that panda is!
SONOFABITCH!
Back then, that was enough.
But that was just me putting words on something. My ultimate goal was to get him to post one of my original photoshops.
And do you see how he gave proper attribution? That meant a lot during a time when other curators were cropping my watermarks and claiming things as their own.
A real mensch, this Mysterious Stranger was.
These two posts got me enough traction to grow my following and before I knew it, I was The Daily What for other people. I was able to help other artists and content creators get traction and grow their following.
It was a beautiful Tumblr version of paying it forward. Only not as awkward as those weirdos who do it in drive-thru lines.
I ONLY GOT A SODA AND NOW I GOTTA PAY FOR 40 MCNUGGETS?
It's fine.
Enjoy your nugs.

Well, well, well, if it isnât the consequences of my actions before me.Â
I am delighted to announce that Dead Mountain's release, initially slated for Halloween 2023, has been delayed!!!Â
Wait, what?
This post is enormous, but please take the time to read it. Likes donât increase visibility to others! Please reblog this to spread the word!Â
When I started this project, my stance on Werewolf: the Apocalypse underwent a series of evolutions between then and now. In short, Dead Mountain, a chronicle meant to simultaneously provide a game module and queer inclusivity at gaming tables, has grown beyond its original design and size and into something much bigger and bolder than what I initially set out to do. It has become a more significant task than one person can accomplish alone. Of course, I could delay Dead Mountain's release a few months to get it completed, and I will still be releasing it standalone eventually. I could also put it out, but what would come out would fall short of presenting Werewolf in a way I feel does the game justice.
In many ways, nothing changes; it just happens later. In its current form, however, Werewolf: the Apocalypse doesnât provide a game that fully supports the scale and inclusivity this chronicle demands. The project rapidly ballooned the chronicle into something more resembling a corebook; while fun to imagine, it is more than I initially set out to accomplish. The volume of literature needing redrafts and the need for this to be a single chronicle alone are at odds with each other, and more than one person can write independently.
I plan to reapproach this in a way that has the team excited, and I think this will excite you, too. See the rest below the cut.
As work on Dead Mountain progressed and drew closer to completion, the things I needed to include to make it happen in a way that did its subject matter justice grew beyond its original scope. The more aspects of inclusivity, culture, and story that turned up missing from the newest edition out of the occasional paragraph, the more I came to realize that if I wanted Werewolf: the Apocalypse to represent what good I see in it, I needed to also make the game itself presented in a fundamentally different way than it has before.Â
I have a challenge to World of Darkness writers:Â
New players should only have to read for no longer than an hour to start coming up with character concepts.Â
Every Werewolf corebook put to print is falling short of that goal. It would be unjust to force players to wade through the old literature to explore all the game has to offer, and I think yâall deserve better. The tribes they read about should focus less on everything wrong with them out of the starting gates and provide players and storytellers with something worth fighting for and motivates them to action.
Over the past few weeks, we have realized that the things we need to include to do justice to the subject matter of Dead Mountain have grown beyond the project's original scope. We want to ensure the game is inclusive, culturally representative, and accessible to new players. Given the available core literature released with the latest edition lacking coherent structuring, our writing has had to balloon beyond a typical RPG supplement size to provide a functional game representative of, and relevant to, queer culture. Therefore, we have decided to delay the game's release by one year to Halloween 2024. This extra time will allow us to create a game that meets our high standards and provides an enriching experience for all players, and make Werewolf: the Apocalypse a more accessible game, particularly regarding accessibility to new players and storytellers.Â
My goal is simple: Nobody new to the World of Darkness and Werewolf with an 8th-grade reading comprehension level should do more than an hourâs reading (10,000 words) to comprehend Werewolf: the Apocalypse well enough to start thinking up character concepts. New players shouldnât have to wade into problematic legacy literature to get the specifics of Garou society or to seek cultural representation. Storytellers should have guidelines on creating chronicles with their players and interlinking them with stories.Â
A series of players guides and storyteller handbooks intended to streamline the flow of information to the reader, sorted by Garou ranks, both in terms of gaming power levels and depth of information relevant to Garou of that rank. New players want to know how to make new characters. Storytellers wish to know the kinds of NPCs appropriate to characters of that power and how to run games. This is not a corebook but a series of reference guides intended to keep the depth of the world we all love in the legacy game in an easily navigated format while only revealing the most pertinent information for a given Garouâs rank and a ready-to-go adventure to pair with that game ranking. With each successive release, more information about the world of the Garou, Garou society, their enemies, and the complexity of available storytelling tools will also evolve to grow the game in tandem with players and storytellers.
Book 1: Cliath â Contains enough information for new players and storytellers to get started, focusing on character generation, Rites of Passage, and culture.
Book 2: Fostern â Expanded Garou powers for the âcitizenry and society (and not-so-nice things that happen in the background that they keep hidden from the cubs and cliath) of the Garou.Â

Our small team consists of seasoned storytellers, writers, and werewolf academics working on making Werewolf more accessible to new players. Weâve been researching, playing, or running inclusive Werewolf tables for over 60 years combined, and are self-taught experts in everything Werewolf. Everyone on this project deeply loves the game and sees its inherent value and well-meaning beneath its 90s liberal veneer. Many of us have spent decades perfecting our craft and knowledge of this game, and we want the rest of you to see the Werewolf that we see in the pages.
We are using By Night Studios' edition of Mindâs Eye Theater: Werewolf as a baseline reference for this project. Much work has already been done to bring inclusivity to the game and encourage character investment in the world, and translating that to the tabletop will be a more inclusive baseline to utilize than any other corebook. We will continue the metaplot of Werewolf: the Apocalypse, with a handful of changes to tribes and factions of Garou. Due to the MET systems translations needing to be done, we still have our work cut out for us and plenty of writing to do. This game will be shifting the formatting to prioritize ease of identifying information pertinent to players versus storytellers while prioritizing keeping culture, mechanics, or cross-edition compatibility as best we can with updated sensibilities.
Stay tuned for another post this afternoon to learn more about our first upcoming book in the series!
