we're thinking about where to stay in disney world and i'm caught between a few. port orleans which we stayed in last time is a really good deal and a fun theme and a great location, and they have really good food. i would stay there again but i also kind of want to stay somewhere new. coronado springs is similarly priced and i'd be down to try that out, but it's not as good of a location, no boat to disney springs, but kind of looks a little more mature and i think the rooms are bigger. it's more of a spanish theme which i think would be fun. then we can get a pretty good deal on wilderness lodge, which i've never stayed in but i've eaten in the restaurants there a number of times and i do like the resort. it's really close to magic kingdom which i feel like is a bad location but some people might consider it good. it's a little more expensive but not a problem. then honestly, i'm really thinking about grand floridian, which is way more expensive lol but we can get such a good deal that i think it might be worth it. i mean it's on the monorail. not that it matters because if you stay in a resort you can drive to any park and park for free and it's not like we have to rent a car, so we kind of don't need the monorail but also the monorail is pretty fun and it would make it easy to resort hop and drink along the monorail on the day we don't go to the parks.
i guess for the week (we get amazing deals cause we're smart) the price for the trip for the both of us if we stay at the different places would be:
port orleans $1050
coronado springs $1050
wilderness lodge $1477
grand floridian $2200
this doesn't include food or gas or anything just the park passes and the hotel. but i feel like $2200 at grand floridian for 5 nights in disney world is like, an incredible price for two people and maybe i should just do that?????? or maybe i should save my money and just stay at port orleans or coronado springs. this is why i'm always broke because i'm kind of just stupid. but i mean my husband will go halvesies with me so only $1100??? i mean most people pay $150 for one day in a park no hotel stay so if you think about it like that it really is such a good deal.
i'm so tempted to go with grand floridian but i think my husband will want coronado springs or wildnerness lodge. or port orleans again. he loves that louisiana food so, he might be tempted to go back to port orleans. also he's looking to do all the christmas shopping for his family at disney springs (lol) so really port orleans would make the most sense for that too.
honestly it doesn't even matter they'd all be super nice. what's really important is they all have the same extra magic hours and we HAVE to ride the new tron ride preferably with little to no wait.
anyway i know none of you care about my disney world rants but!!!!! i just have so much fun there and going to disney makes me so fucking excited!!!!!!!!

The best amenities at which Disney parks
Around Disney World, some other resorts and hotels offer extras comparable to those found at Disney hotels. These include the Coronado Springs Resort and the Swan Reserve. Some of these, however, are not Disney-owned and might not provide the facilities found at Disney resorts.
The Old Key West resort is a sizable, spacious resort with easy access to all necessary amenities. The Hospitality House is nearest to all the amenities. Therefore, it is ideal to stay close by. The bus, which makes a 20-minute loop around the resort, is another option for visitors.
The hotel has four swimming pools: the main pool, the kids' pool, the sauna, and the hot tub. The main pool is the only pool with lifeguards on duty and a slide. In addition, turtle Pond Road features a second pool, playground, and snack bar. Between buildings 19 and 20, there are also two recreational swimming pools. Open from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, the pools are.
The northern Mexican and Spanish traditions are the basis for Disney World's Coronado Springs Resort. There are plazas, courtyards, and residences in the pueblo style throughout the resort. The Gran Destino Tower, Moorish lamps, Spanish tiles, and Salvador Dali-inspired design elements are all present.
The resort contains a spa, a salon, and a gift shop where you can buy Disney-related goods and food. The resort also offers daycare options and a meeting centre. You can use the dry cleaning and washing services if you change your clothes. Additionally, the resort offers self-parking for $20 per night.
Coronado Springs has excellent landscaping. The Gran Destino Tower, a new tower hotel, has recently been added as part of a recent renovation. However, the tower is the only budget hotel with inside rooms. The additional lodging options at Coronado Springs are scattered throughout the lake's communities. These are less expensive than the accommodations in Coronado Springs.
The hotel offers a range of room sizes, including villas with one, two, and three bedrooms. These rooms come with balconies and kitchenettes in them. Some of the rooms have several conveniences for families and queen-sized sofabeds. Old Key West is a favourite choice for Disney holidays, and you can count on a good night's sleep there.
The Pop Century Resort offers something for everyone, whether you are a frequent visitor to Disney parks or a first-timer. The wacky motif of the hotel extends to the pools and entertaining features. For instance, the Hippy Dippy Pool, which features water jets in the shape of daisies, is influenced by 1960s flower power. Another feature is a foosball court that is life-size. At the Pop Century resort, there are three themed swimming pools.
Pop Century was built in 2003 and just underwent a significant renovation. While some rooms feature one king bed, some offer two queen beds. Some of the rooms even have a coffee maker. In addition, some rooms have a refrigerator and a hair dryer, while others don't.
The resort's on-site pool is also open to guests, and it comes with lounge chairs and a fire pit. The pool is a tranquil retreat from the Magic Kingdom, next to a restaurant and pool bar. The Swan and Dolphin, which also has a beach and cave, is only a five-minute stroll from the hotel. There is a ton of entertainment and party music available at the Swan and Dolphin.
The Kilimanjaro Club and luxury rooms are only a few abundant lodging options available at the Animal Kingdom in Disney park. The latter provides more amenities and more individualized care. Seventy rooms make up the concierge-level club known as The Kilimanjaro Club. Kilimanjaro Club rooms provide more bedrooms, space, and separate check-in areas than regular Animal Kingdom Jambo hotel rooms.
There are numerous amenities in the Swan Reserve at Disney parks that are unmatched. Departing at the Transportation and Ticket Center, travellers can enjoy complimentary theme park parking and transportation aboard Disney buses. The Swan's visitors can enter theme parks first. Additionally, theme park tickets are available at the Swan for its guests.
Many of the animals that wander the Savanna throughout the day can be seen by guests staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Additionally, many of these rooms include many trees and lovely vegetation.

Café con Leche – GEEK EATS Disney Recipe from Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood
Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood is now open at Disney’s Coronado Springs in the Gran Destino Tower. Tolédo is a new recipe that can found atop the Gran Destino Tower. News Flash: Family Travel Doesn’t Even Require a Passport
Passport free affordable family travel inspiration that will get you to actually leave the house with your kids.
Tumblr media
Often times, I have parents ask me for advice regarding travel with children and I remind them that international travel is not the only way to expose and share experiences with your kids. I’m well aware that if you search the hashtag #travel or #familytravel, you will come across many staged and photoshopped images of what seems like perfectly behaved jet setting families in Paris, Malasia, Kenya, Greece and every international Disney Park, yet I’m here for the family who’s trying to figure out how to pull off a simple in state road trip, overnight trip or weekend adventure. While we love exploring so many amazing places that are ideal family travel locations, I’m also all about the local and regional travel experiences. Why? It’s more realistic that the average family will be able to plan, afford and actually pull off an overnight trip or weekend getaway, than a safari or two week long trip through Europe. Realistic and affordable family travel is imperative to breaking the obstacles to family travel for most people.
Tumblr media
Family travel is not something we do to simply check off a box, say that we’ve been there and because it’s currently the trendy thing to do. We were those lone black people hiking, camping, skiing and in typically not family orientated travel destinations, before family travel became the “in” thing. It’s been an integral part of our family values and way of life for over nineteen years. This means that we place as much emphasis on the experiences and lessons learned while taking a day trip to Block Island, Rhode Island or a weekend trip to Acadia National Park, Maine, as we do on our trip to Havana, Cuba. Travel is truly as much about the process of getting to the destination, as it is about experiencing said destination with our children. What do I mean? Children who grow up to be adults who love adventure and experiences are born in transit. They are born in their ability to pack their bags, organize the car, plan their trip and live in the moment once they arrive. They’re born in the ability to make the most out of the unexpected or hiccups in their plans, without those challenges completely ruining their trip.
These lessons can be learned without even owning a passport, a car or the funds to take you on that bucket list trip. You don’t need to have TSA Pre Check, Global Entry or Mobile Passport to raise travel loving and adventure seeking children. You can accomplish these goals by teaching your kids how to explore their own back yard, state, region and country. The United States or your own home country are filled with incredibly beautiful places just waiting for you to experience them. I challenge you to rethink the passport stamp seeking family travel culture that we’re bombarded with daily on social media and you will realize that it’s not as unattainable as you once thought. Even as a family travel blogger, I find myself rolling my eyes at some of the elitists posts that I see on social media these days. I’m here to tell you that it’s perfectly okay if your kids don’t leave the country until they have their first job and can afford to buy their own flight. While we do travel internationally with our four children, I must acknowledge that international travel is not something that is immediately available to most families with two children, much less those with four. I encourage you to start traveling with your kids by choosing trips that meet your personal family budget. Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s paralyzing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The older I get, the more I appreciate a good long weekend family trip. I don’t have the attention span for most 7-day trips with kids. I love long weekends and 5-night trips because they allow our family to create amazing memories while not completely disrupting our daily flow, routine and wallet. Also, as a large family, lodging, food and transportation costs add up quickly. I’d rather travel more often, than travel longer in one single trip. This is our family’s preference and you will figure out your own family travel flow, the more you get out of the house with your kids. I’ve written previous blog posts about the fact that family travel is not a vacation. It requires a shift in thinking and an acceptance to what your reality is as a parent leaving the house with children. It’s a fact. You will have to put in all of the work required to parent on a daily basis while you are away from home. Travel will only accentuate your troublesome family dynamics. Ugh, sorry I had to say that! It’s reality. I’ve spoken to so many parents who say that they don’t travel with their kids because their kids don’t listen, misbehave and thus damper their travel experience. Those are issues that I highly recommend that you address and deal with before you embark on a week long trip with children. Traveling didn’t cause these issues, but having kids out of their element accentuates all of those things to a degree that will cause you to never leave home again. Thus, be realistic in your travel expectations with children. You may be in a season that requires shorter trips. Embrace that. The season of longer travel will be here before you know it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Don’t be paralyzed by all of the family travel posts to expensive travel destinations, that leave you feeling inadequate, despondent and slightly depressed. Start somewhere. Start Local. Start now. You won’t regret it and in the meantime, you’ll be planting those seeds that you will surely sow at the right time in your family’s lifetime. These are some of our favorite family travel destinations that hopefully will get your wanderlust juices flowing. I bet some of these are close enough to you that you can make a long weekend out of them.

What are some of your favorite affordable family travel destinations? What are some of the obstacles that you face in starting to travel with your kids?
Pro tips for affordable local family travel:
- Travel off season. Island destinations like Block Island and Martha’s Vineyard are just as stunning, more affordable and less crowded in the off season. Ski resorts make amazing Spring, Summer and Fall destinations. Off season travel also mean that you won’t face minimum night requirements and thus allow you to take a weekend trip rather than a full week.
- If you have young children and don’t need to work around a school schedule, hotels are cheaper on Sunday nights and mid week. Avoid Friday and Saturday nights unless traveling to business destinations and then weekends are actually less expensive at some of the really nice business hotels.
- Brand loyalty does pay off. If you do stay in hotels, follow the deals and not the destinations. Also, stick to one brand and sign up immediately for their rewards programs. Many of our annual hotel stays are free nights using rewards.
- Don’t be afraid to book Airbnb’s. As a large family, we often book condos and full houses at a significantly cheaper rate than a hotel stay.
- I use Costco often for car rentals. They offer the best deals for vehicles that can accommodate our family.
- Be flexible and creative in your lodging options. We’ve stayed outside of beach towns for 1/4 of the cost of staying on the beach. Flexibility in family travel is key to actually going anywhere.
- Be willing to try new things. We’ve stayed in cabins, RVs and tent camped. I honestly never pictured myself having some of the amazing experiences that we’ve shared with our children. To think that I may have missed these memories if I stuck to that which I was comfortable with.

Walt’s Words
“Children are people, and they should have to reach to learn about things, to understand things, just as adults have to reach if they want to grow in mental stature. Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows. Most things are good, and they are the strongest things; but there are evil things too, and you are not doing a child a favor by trying to shield him from reality. The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil.”

The Barcelona lounge on in the Destino Tower Lower Level Lobby
When it originally opened August 1, 1997, Disney Coronado Springs was the largest Disney convention resort and featured one of the largest single-level convention centers on the East Coast. The opening of the new Gran Destino Tower earlier this week, July 9, 2019, signifying the entire resort’s grand re-imagining. Located in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort area the resort features 2,385 guest room including suites in lakeside casitas and the new Gran Destino Tower and more than 220,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The 22-acre Lago Dorado lake at the center of the resort provides a perfect walking/jogging trail along with state of the art fitness center, four swimming pools a volleyball court, recently remodeled lounges, food court, and grab-and-go offerings. “Destino”.

The new tower serves as the new arrival and reception area for Coronado Springs featuring a dramatic two-story lobby. The lower lobby bar, Barcelona Lounge offers coffee and pastries in the morning transforming to a full bar during the evening. The 16th floor rooftop restaurant, Tolédo – Tapas, Steaks and Seafood, is inspired by the renowned Spanish city that was home to avant-garde writers and artists in

the 1920s and ’30s, you will also find the Dahlia Lounge on the 16th floor, named after the “Destino” heroine, a mortal woman who enchants the Greek god Chronos; dandelion chandeliers, metal bell accents and ceiling coffers with swirling patterns all draw inspiration from the restaurant’s namesake. Speaking of Chronos, that’s the name of the 15th-floor concierge club. The Gran Destino Tower serves as the main access point for the three lodging districts adjacent to the tower, each inspired by the elegant cities, neighborhood dwellings and diverse natural landscapes of Mexico and the American Southwest: The Casitas emphasizes the residential areas of colonial cities found all over Mexico. The Ranchos represent ranch houses of the dry southwestern chaparral regions of northern Mexico and the American Southwest and the Cabanas evoke the look and feel of a small tropical coastal fishing village on the Mexican coast. The Dig Site feature pool complex features a massive gray stone Mayan temple that recalls many of the ceremonial centers created by the ancient Mayans; according to Disney legend, the temple sits five stories above the Coronado Springs, and the water cascades down the temple’s steps into the Lost City of Cibola Feature Pool.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (July 8, 2019) – Celebrating the rich cultures and vibrant landscapes of Spain, Mexico and the American Southwest through contemporary design and Old World traditions, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort shines with renewed luster. On July 9, 2019, the resort will complete a multiyear re-imagining focused on today’s travelers, marking the official debut of a new tower, new restaurants and a new arrival experience.
The new Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort opening July 9 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, takes its inspiration from the Disney animated short film “Destino.” (Steven Diaz, photographer)
The new Gran Destino Tower rises dramatically on the southeastern shores of Lago Dorado (“Golden Lake”), the resort’s 22-acre lake. The tower – opening to the public July 9 – offers 545 modern guest rooms (including 50 suites and club-level services), a grand two-story lobby, new meeting venues, and a rooftop restaurant and lounge with spectacular views. The distinctive tower becomes the stylish new gateway to the 2,385-room resort.
Gran Destino Tower takes its name from the classic Disney film “Destino.” Drawing inspiration from the surrealist animated short, the tower is a whimsical, magnificent visual feast, diverse in its design and execution. The tower’s outdoor Destino Plaza are also ideal for weddings, business receptions or other special events.
Guests at a preview of the new Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort are welcomed into a stunning two-level lobby. Gran Destino Tower opens July 9 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Steven Diaz, photographer)
Past its grand entrance and signature ribbon-patterned design that climbs up the side of Gran Destino Tower, guests step into a stunning lobby – an homage to the Catalan Modernism style. On their way to check in, new arrivals pass intricate wooden screens with rows of beautiful Moorish hanging lanterns, while decorative bronze screens inspired by Spanish tile patterns accent the rear wall of the lobby.
The warm colors and patterns of Barcelona inspire the sun-filled Barcelona Lounge on the lobby’s lower level, offering plenty of casual seating and lake views. Beneath a magnificent chandelier framed by sculpted plaster columns, guests can enjoy coffee in the morning and cocktails as the day progresses.
The Catalan theme extends to the tower’s stylish new guest rooms and suites. A wall covering in each room is inspired by Spanish tile medallions, adding an Old World touch to a contemporary design. The new tower also offers club-access rooms for guests who want to enjoy the benefits of the Chronos Club. The club boasts commanding views of Walt Disney World Resort and cast members who can assist with vacation planning. Light refreshments are available throughout the day.
A new interactive television system available in every guest room and suite in Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort provides a more customized in-room experience. Gran Destino Tower opens July 9 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Steven Diaz, photographer)
Each tower guest room also offers a new interactive television system that provides a more customized and Disney differentiated in-room experience. This new television system will enhance the guest experience with Disney-quality services, content and personalization. For example, guests can view their Disney PhotoPass images on the large screen and stream their entertainment services from their personal devices to the in-room television.

Gran Destino Tower is crowned by dramatic rooftop dining locations, Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood and Dahlia Lounge, offering breathtaking views of Walt Disney World from the tower’s 16th floor. Named for the storied Spanish city home to avant-garde writers and artists of the 1920s and ’30s, Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood is a table-service dining experience. The Spanish-inspired menu features entrees like chuletón, a 32-ounce, Spanish-style ribeye for two, as well as sustainable seafood and classic Spanish sides. It’s all served in a setting that features live olive trees, vibrant colors and an intricate vaulted ceiling with stained-glass accents. There’s also an onstage tapas kitchen inspired by the flavors of Spain, specializing in small plates, charcuteríá and cheeses.
The adjacent Dahlia Lounge takes its mesmerizing shapes and swirling patterns from Spanish Modernism, inviting guests into an intimate, artful space where they can enjoy signature cocktails and panoramic views.
As part of the broader re-imagining of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, three new pedestrian bridges now extend across Lago Dorado, allowing for quick and convenient passage to and from all parts of the resort. In the middle of the lake at the nexus of these new pathways is Villa del Lago (“Lake Villa”), home to a new outdoor restaurant, Three Bridges Bar & Grill. The open-air, waterfront dining location offers delicious entrees and shareables, along with refreshing cocktails and signature sangria pitchers. Three Bridges Bar & Grill features a rustic, Old World charm anchored by a large stone hearth behind the central bar.
These new experiences complement the wide array of amenities and experiences at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, including floating gardens, scenic nature trails and palm-shaped courtyards. Throughout the resort, guests can enjoy a diverse collection of dining options, including:
Maya Grill – A grand Mexican dining room featuring ancient-modern styling and Nuevo Latino cuisines.
Rix Sports Bar & Grill – A stylish establishment with a unique spin on classic bar food.
El Mercado de Coronado – A food court filled with kitchens serving made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a wide array of options so there’s something for everyone.
Café Rix – A charming grab-and-go location offering pastries, coffee and tasty snacks.
Laguna Bar – A breezy lakeside lounge boasting signature cocktails.
Siestas Cantina – A poolside hideaway to unwind with refreshing beverages and snacks.
Shoppers can delight in an updated Panchito’s merchandise location. Named after one of the main characters from the Disney film “The Three Caballeros, Panchito’s resembles an open-air Mexican market.
The Dig Site – a sprawling pool complex with a Mayan-ruins theme – is fed by water cascading dramatically down a Mayan pyramid and features a water slide that evokes the spirit animal of a jaguar. The Dig Site can be accessed via the new bridges over Lago Dorado.
All existing guest rooms at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort were updated with new fixtures, furnishings and lighting. Guest feedback helped shape the room remodel that introduced an expansive desk space, hard-surface floors, platform beds and more. In addition, a fresh, sophisticated new color palette ties together the entire resort experience.
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is now a celebration of Spanish, Mexican and American Southwest cultures, infused with a profound respect for the natural world – most notably water. These design motifs span centuries to form a common thread that connects the new with the newly re-imagined.

Unique New Restaurants Offer Dining Delights, Spectacular Views at the Re-Imagined Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (July 8, 2019) – With two restaurants and a stylish rooftop lounge leading the way, new food and beverage experiences share the spotlight as Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort emerges fresh from a multi-year, resort-wide re-imagining. The two new restaurants extend the wide variety of palate-pleasing dining options found throughout the resort.
The new Gran Destino Tower is home to an unforgettable new dining experience, Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, a unique rooftop table-service restaurant offering dishes and small plates inspired by the flavors of Spain. Featuring sweeping views of Walt Disney World Resort, this charming, surrealistic location invites guests to dine indoors under a pair of large olive trees nestled beneath an intricate vaulted ceiling with shimmering stained-glass accents.
Tolédo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood is the namesake of the Spanish city that was home to avant-garde writers and artists in the 1920s and ’30s. Spain also inspires the savory menu choices:
Begin the adventure with tapas from the Basque region of Spain. An onstage tapas kitchen serves small plates, charcuteríá, and cheeses.
Or choose from Cazuelas – chef interpretations of classic recipes presented in a traditional Spanish terra cotta dish.
Entrees include rioja-braised chicken, Spanish-style bone-in ribeye or golden tilefish (100% sustainable seafood).
Spanish sides include bravas (potatoes) with pimento aioli, braised gigante beans with aged sherry vinegar, and roasted cauliflower with harissa vinaigrette.
Three signature desserts from the Master Pastry Chef include the Tapas Bar, a crunchy chocolate bar with bite-sized flavors of Spanish coffee, crunchy chocolate, raspberry mousse and lemon curd.
Guests enjoying a preview of Dahlia Lounge atop the new Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort delight in signature cocktails crafted by expert mixologists and panoramic views. Gran Destino Tower opens July 9 at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Steven Diaz, photographer)
In the Disney animated film “Destino,” from which the tower takes its name, the immortal Chronos is in love with the mortal Dahlia. This passion shines through in the Dahlia Lounge, a convivial room that shares the tower’s rooftop with Tolédo – Tapas, Steaks & Seafood. The heroine inspires the lounge’s visual aesthetics – from dandelion chandeliers and metal bell accents to ceiling coffers with swirling patterns reminiscent of her flowing hair. Cocktails are crafted by expert mixologists, while wines from California and Spain include high-end cavas handpicked by the master sommelier. Visitors to the lounge – indoors or outdoors – can also choose from tapas or small-plate specialties.
The second new restaurant at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is on an island in the middle of Lago Dorado. Three convenient new walkways stretching across the 22-acre lake lead to Villa del Lago and its Three Bridges Bar & Grill. Offering casual waterside dining in an open-air setting, this idyllic new location presents a varied menu that includes curry-lentil hummus, Szechuan peppercorn wings, salads, a signature burger and a grilled skirt steak with pepper relish. Behind the central bar, a beautiful stone hearth invites guests to unwind with a pitcher of sangria or a vibrant cocktail while enjoying tranquil lake views.
Here’s a taste of other venues found at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort:
NEW! Barcelona Lounge – On the ground floor of the two-story lobby in Gran Destino Tower, this dramatic yet casual space offers a European coffee experience paired with Spanish and classic American pastries as well as healthy breakfast items. The city of Barcelona inspired the eclectic patterns and warm colors, including the stained-glass feature wall behind the bar. Under a magnificent chandelier, the space transforms throughout the day, transitioning by late morning to an artisanal cocktail bar with a variety of tonics to complement an international gin collection. Those tonics include the resort’s own house-crafted, signature Gran Destino Gin Tonic. Guests can linger over lake views while enjoying select wines and craft beers from both Spain and California. Dishes of cheeses, olives and more, paired with sourdough, are served beginning at 11 a.m.
NEW! Chronos Club – With its casual yet intimate shadings, this bright, open-air club-access space located on the 15th floor of Gran Destino Tower is perfect for unwinding and enjoying light refreshments throughout the day. Chronos Club offers lake views and a Barcelona vibe with its cooler color palette.
Maya Grill – This grand Mexican dining room features ancient-modern styling and Nuevo Latino cuisine.
Rix Sports Bar & Grill – This stylish establishment puts a unique spin on classic bar food.
El Mercado de Coronado – There’s something for everyone at this food court filled with kitchens serving made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner.

10 ways to be laid back at Disney
Guests go for a ride inÊa Captain-guided tour aboard anÊamphibious auto, known as anÊAmphicar,Êon Lake Buena Vista at Downtown Disney, as part of the waterfront adventures offered at The BOATHOUSE restaurant.ÊThe BOATHOUSE: Great Food, Waterfront Dining, Dream Boats, isÊa new upscale, waterfront dining experience in the heart ofÊDowntown Disney with a gourmet menu featuring steaks, chops, fresh seafood and a raw bar.ÊThe BOATHOUSEÊfrom Schussler CreativeÊis one of the new venues in The Landing, the first of four planned neighborhoods asÊDowntown Disney transitions to Disney Springs. Completion of Disney Springs is set for 2016. Downtown DisneyÊis located at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.Ê(Matt Stroshane)
We all need a few minutes or maybe even a whole day, to kick back a little during our Disney trip. From the second you arrive to second you leave it is very go go go, get in line ride a ride busy busy! Here are 10 ways to just take a step back from the chaos. Some things on the list only take 10 minutes and some could be an all-day event. Most of the list will also cost extra and is not part of a resort or park fee. The list is not in a particular order or rating scale.
1) Get your haircut on Main Street!
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is the famous get your hair done spot for young girls at Disney. But there is a spot for adults to get their own special hair treatment too! Harmony Barber Shop is on Main Street in Magic Kingdom. It is a classic barber shop and does require reservations and a park ticket as it is inside Magic Kingdom’s gates. They do not shampoo your hair but will add some pixie dust (glitter) at the end!
1stHaircut package $25
Child haircut $18
Adult haircut $19
2) Lay by your resort pool!
If you are staying at a Disney resort, your hotel will have at least one outdoor pool, sometimes even two. During the day the resorts kind of empty out as everyone heads into the park. Go down to the pool in the morning with a book & a towel to save your chair. I usually grab myself some breakfast or a snack, refill my refillable mug, then head back to my chair for the day.
3) Spa Day!
Who doesn’t love a good spa day? A nice massage or maybe even a facial to get your body fully relaxed and truly get that vacation feel. Spa options are not available at every resort but you do not need to stay at the resort to enjoy their spa treatments. Simply pick a treatment and make a reservation.
La Vida at Coronado Springs
Mandara at Dolphin Hotel
Senses at The Grand Floridian & Saratoga Springs
Ship Shape at The Yacht Club
Zahanati at Animal Kingdon Lodge
4) Take a horse drawn carriage ride!
Add some romance and peace and quiet to your trip with a true princess experience. Or maybe you want to take a break from everyone and take a carriage ride by yourself for some “me” time.
Port Orleans Riverside; 25 minute ride $55, fits up to 4 adults.
Fort Wilderness Resort; 25 minute ride $55, fits up to 4 adults.
5) Set sail on a specialty cruise!
The Disney parks may not be set near the ocean that surrounds Florida but they are near some large bodies of water like the Seven Seas Lagoon or Lake Buena Vista. There are several different cruise types to choose from at a wide range of pricing.
Fireworks Cruise, starting at $299, up to $399
Day Cruise Around the World, $149 for a party up to 10 people.
Grand 1 Yacht, $399 an hour
Celebrations or Private Dining parties, call for pricing.
Vintage Amphicar, 20 minute tour, $125
Venezia Cruises; Champagne cruise 30 mins $75 per adult, 60 mins $115 per adult. Wine Tasting cruise $125 per person or $225 per couple.
6) Enjoy some ice cream or baked treat by the water!
Lake Buena Vista at Disney Springs is a beautiful setting to just sit and relax. Right next to The Boathouse there is a section called The Landing where the boats and Amphicars launch into the water. There is a large set up of benches, some even shaded by trees, making a perfect spot to enjoy a treat and take in some scenery. The area looks right off into the water instead of a typical Disney bench set up that is more for people watching. This is also a great spot for watching the sunset and Erin Mckenna’s bakery is right around the corner.
7) Take a seat and people watch!
I don’t think there is a great place to sit back, relax and people watch like Disney! You could spend tons of time taking a load off your feet and just watching people go by. Spot the best matching family shirts, the best mickey ears, etc. I have two favorite spots for just this activity, however they both require park tickets.
Tangled Tower bathroom area. Best part of this seating is that there are several charging ports so you plug in your phone or tablet while doing a little people watching, filling up your water bottles & taking a bathroom break.
The aquarium at Finding Nemo & Friends. This is an indoor, A/C people watching opportunity. This spot is always busy with people who have just left the Nemo ride or are just walking around enjoying the sea life. Find a spot to take a seat and cool off while doing some people watching or maybe some sea life watching too.
8) Private Cabana rentals!
This is a laid back idea only available at two resorts; The Grand Floridian and The Contemporary. If you are someone staying at one of these resorts and want a day by the pool but want a little more relief from the heat than you get from the umbrellas, this is an idea for you. You can make a reservation for a private poolside cabana that comes with great perks for your relaxing day by the pool.
Padded lounge chairs
LCD TV
Bluetooth
Ceiling fan
Mini Fridge with soda & water
Fruit Basket
9) Take in a movie!
The AMC Theater in Disney Springs is a great way to cool down and relax after a long day on your feet in the parks or even a good spot for a rainy day. If it feels not “Disney” enough for you, there is always some kind of Disney franchise movie playing in the theaters. The best part of this movie theater is that you are served by waiters and waitress and can order full meals, appetizers, desserts and alcoholic beverages right to your seats! It’s a great way to just kick back and enjoy a good movie during your hectic trip.
10) Relax by a campfire!
Most of the resorts feature relaxing campfires at night. There is nothing like sitting in the fresh air by a fire and roasting up some s’mores with your friends and family. If you are staying at a resort that does not have a campfire, you are welcome to travel over to one that does! Maybe you are having a late dinner at Sanaa, after you are finished stroll outside the door right by the entrance and sit around the fire & check out the animals.

Café Rix – At this charming grab-and-go location, guests find pastries and coffee, among other tasty snacks.
Laguna Bar – Signature cocktails are available at this breezy lakeside lounge.
Siestas Cantina – This poolside hideaway is a place to unwind with refreshing beverages and snacks.

Disney Date Idea #20 Surrey Bike Ride
Tumblr media
Rent a two seater, or four seater for a double date, surrey bike at a Disney Resort and take it for a half hour spin. Sit side by side as you pedal through a beautiful Disney Resort. Don’t worry, only one of you can steer! The other driver will have a fake wheel that they will keep spinning even though they know it doesn’t work. Resorts that have surrey bikes include: Port Orleans, Old Key West, the Boardwalk, Caribbean Beach, Saratoga Springs, Coronado Springs, Pop Century and Art of Animation.
Cost: $22-$24 per half hour depending on which type of bike you rent.
Duration: About an hour once you add in getting to and from the bike rental location.
Best Food Options: Depends on which resort you choose.
