it was mid june when you first met daryl dixon.

your father had just pulled his old pickup into the trailer park, kicking up a cloud of dust that hung in the air long after the engine had shut off. you stared out the window, eyes scanning the rows of faded, sun-baked trailers, each one looking as old as the next. your dad, already in a foul mood, grumbled something about going inside and “not making a fuss.” you knew better than to argue with him.

you had just moved here. not that it was much different from the last place. same kind of peeling paint, sagging porches, and rusted cars that never seemed to run. but little did you know, this trailer park would have one difference.

you didn’t know him yet, but you saw him the moment you stepped out of the truck. he was sitting on the steps of the trailer not too far away from yours, his small frame slouched like he was trying to disappear into the wood behind him. his hair was dirty blonde, a little too long, falling into his eyes. and his clothes were dirt streaked and a couple sizes too big for him. he looked like he hadn’t had a good meal or heard a kind word in a long time.

your dad noticed him too, but all he did was grunt. “tha’s will’s kid,” he muttered, spitting on the ground and making you grimace at the action. “stay clear of him. ain’t no good come outta that family.” you frowned, because as far as you knew, your father and will were friends. he was the reason your dad knew about this place.

you didn’t say anything, turning on your heel to make your way into the trailer. your new home for however long your dad could keep a job, or not piss off the park owners and get kicked out. it had been like that your entire life. and you were just a burden on his back— someone he had to feed and provide a roof over their head.

it had always just been the two of you. you didn’t know much about your mother— sure you remembered her a little bit. she stuck around until you were about four, but then she had run off with someone else. someone who had more money. someone nicer.

according to your father, she had always been selfish like that.

later that afternoon, while your dad was off drinking with some of the other men that lived in the park, you wandered out. you kicked at a rock as you walked along the dirt road in the park, feeling the dry heat against your skin. the kind of heat that made everything feel like it was moving slower. you saw daryl again, this time sitting by the edge of the lot.

without thinking too much about it, you walked over. he didn’t say anything when you stopped just a few feet from him, he just stared at you through a tangle of hair.

“hey,” you said, trying to sound casual, though your anxiety caught the best of you and your voice wavered.

daryl didn’t say anything, his eyes darting away like he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to look at you.

you kicked the dirt again, feeling a little awkward but not wanting to leave. you looked back up at him, a small frown on your lips. “i’m (y/n),” you said, hoping to get something out of him.

“daryl,” he replied, finally glancing up at you. his blue eyes were sharp, like they saw more than they let on.

you nodded, not sure what else to say. you knew that look. you saw it in the mirror sometimes — the kind of look kids get when they’re used to keeping their heads down, used to trying to stay out the way.

“i think your dad is friends with mine,” you stated, hands shoved into the back pockets of your shorts, rocking on your heels.

daryl flinched— just the slightest twitch of his shoulder, but you saw it. he didn’t say anything, but you didn’t need him to. you could tell what his life was like. his dad, will, and your dad — they were all the same. angry men with heavy fists and loud voices. men you had to learn to survive around.

after a long silence, daryl finally spoke, his voice barely more than a whisper. “yeah. he is.”

you didn’t push. you knew that was enough for now. instead, you sat down on the ground next to him, the dust covering the back of your legs. daryl didn’t move, but you could tell he wasn’t as tense as before. the two of you sat there in silence for what felt like hours, the sun slowly dipping behind the trees, casting long shadows across the trailer park.

as the sky started to turn orange, you finally broke the silence that enveloped the both of you. “you wanna hang out tomorrow?”

daryl glanced at you, his brow furrowed in confusion, wondering why you would want to hang out with him. “why?”

you shrugged, picking at the hem of your shirt. “i dunno. ain’t got nobody else to talk to.” you looked at him, meeting those sharp blue eyes again.

he didn’t answer right away, but eventually, he nodded. “yeah. okay.”

that’s how it started. you and daryl weren’t the kind of kids who needed a lot of words, but it seems like you needed each other. you spent a lot of your days wandering the woods behind the park, throwing rocks at tin cans, and sitting by the creek when you wanted to escape the heat. you talked about your families a lot, but not your fathers. it was obvious what fathers who drank to much did, who hurt too much, who left scars deeper than anyone could see.

he’d talk about his older brother, merle, a lot. and you’d grimace at a lot of the things merle seemed to do. you were yet to meet him, but you weren’t exactly sure if you wanted to.

as the years went by, daryl became more than just a friend. he was your escape, your reason to keep going. you knew he felt the same, even if he didn’t say it out loud for a long time. you had each other’s backs in a world that seemed determined to keep you down, and that was enough.

even on the worst days, when your father’s temper flared and you were too scared to go home, daryl would be there, waiting by the tree line, ready to disappear into the woods with you. and when his old man came around looking for trouble, you’d do the same for him.

and though merle constantly teased the both of you, calling you names like lovebirds, you felt a little sense of security with your newfound family. it wasn’t picture perfect, but it mattered to you.

this question really made me think! i love all the cast combos, but my top three have gotta be:

ian, shayne, courtney, and damien: i remember when i first watched this video like five years ago and i was seated! i started watching smosh around that time, so i've got a soft spot for them. they feed off each other's chaotic energies so well and it's so fun to watch them have a grand ol' time

amanda, arasha, angela, and chanse: i gotta show love to the newbies! they've really ushered smosh into a new era and their chemistry is off the charts. i especially love them in this challenge pit because seeing them compete and mess with each other is so funny

shayne, chanse, damien, and spencer: this is a newer favorite grouping of mine. i'm not sure if they've been in more videos together other than this one, but it was so good! they bring out each other's competitive sides and then they go batshit crazy

and as for my fave ships, i'm such multishipping trash that i love pretty much any duo. but if i had to narrow it down to my top three:

ooooh i do be thinking about this sometimes… i feel like i like pretty much all combinations but let’s see:

damien, shayne, courtney, chanse, angela, arasha. like, any combo of half older cast with half new cast is always very fun to me. my favorite challenge pit is shayne with chanse, angela, arasha, and amanda.

shayne, spencer, tommy, courtney, amanda. no real reason i just think that sounds like a good group. basically the minecraft crew + the smosh mouth dynamic duo

chapter 9!! the end was so sweet, all of them celebrating at the ice rink <3 (though, its a bit quick for them to get on the radio, but yknow what for story purposes i get it lol)

i was half expecting, the bathroom scene, for mercedes to point to roxy and be like "you. you seem to have the most braincells out of all of them. you're my new girlfriend" and roxy being able to connect with her for real and make mercedes break. but maybe im just gay and desperate for any wlw relationships on this silly little show ...

hi!! :)) not to end the last 2 chapters with hockey but i had the idea for the ice rink thing long before i placed it in this particular chapter, i just thought it would be fun for all of them after such a long and stressful day! (even if the radio thing isn't all that realistic... don't worry about it)

also, you're out here writing my chapters better than me! i had a brief idea for mercedes to pick roxy and have them be girlfriends for a little bit but ultimately decided against it because 1. roxy isnt in the band and 2. she didn't like mercedes at all, so i couldn't come up with an ending for that particular part of the story without Roxy going off on her and i didn't want to pit two bad bitches against each other. but don't worry! there are lgbtq+ characters we just haven't met all of them yet :)

and !! i thought the kendall-roxy lift thing was a bit cheesy but like... they're friends... they care a lot about each other... ofc they're going to get through hard times together. and now im trying to remember every roxy-carlos interaction ive ever written and im drawing a complete blank. though, carlos is very, very sweet and i love that about him, so the two of them do really get along (you'll love chapter 10). i've been attempting to push the roxy-logan bestie agenda because i feel like they're the most similar when it comes to decision making and personality, but kendall feels like the type of person who can get along with ANYONE. i had to change a lot of the scenes i had written between roxy-kendall to other band members because looking back over i realized there were SO MANY in the draft it might as well have been a roxy-kendall fic just because hes so good at getting along with others to me... as a james girlie i simply couldn't let that slide... and as for roxy-james we all know how that's going. mans about to lose his girl frfr...

No, no you are right. I always feel so disappointed when some ccs are ignored until they become Grian (or similar ccs)´s new sibling/bestie. I really like Grian, he totally deserves his popularity, but I wish people paid more attention to the other people as well. And yeah, how does the mcc reddit, of all places, appreciate more mcc 9 blue bats than most hermit fans? And there are so many of these fans that will lash out when smth is not about their faves (ehem Demise 2)

Anyways, in the topic of duos, it is crazy how a duo becoming very popular can sometimes become so hurtful towards the ccs themselves. I especially see it in Jimmy´s chat, it is crazy how often people will demand him to stop whatever he´s doing and play something with Grian, Joel or Lizzie (I am talking like every stream). It feels as if they genuinely don´t care about Jimmy himself, and it feels even worse when he is playing with other people because then they are also completely disregarding them as well. There was this time when Jimmy was playing something with Martyn, Sausage and Oli, and Martyn´s stream was working weirdly so he decided to drop it and just keep playing with them without streaming himself. And I am not kidding when I say there were several people in chat saying they should kick out Martyn and invite Grian instead.

Also, the Jimmy & Grian duo is great and super funny, but can´t believe the Property Police aren´t more popular like Jimmy went from being a huge fan to being Martyn´s groomsman and "bestie he plays valorant with in the evenings", that is literally as if a wattpad y/n story was targeted to a straight dude

I love Skizz and his energy, I think he's awesome with people, he is certainly good at the whole "duo thing" buuuut this is not a Skizz duo poll. Or even a Hermitcraft duo poll. It is a False duo poll. I think people voted for Skizz because of Skizz, not False, or even Skizz-False. Like yeah it was funny when Skizz held False hostage in the charity event. But are people voting for moments like that or do they just like Skizz in general?

This was also what I was trying to see with the False MCC poll— 17 is of course iconic as a whole, and especially for Grian, and I would definitely rank it very high in a Hermit MCC poll (possibly right behind Blue9, sorry Orange10). But False had better performances in 29 and 10, and 9 had better chemistry than 17 because she didn't really get spoken over in 9. Or 10 and 29. (Whereas in 17 it was a Thing enough for Pete to mention it afterwards apparently.) 17 has cool False moments of course— SG the one I remember the most— but people don't really bring that up. So did people vote for 17 in a False centric poll because they liked False's performance in 17 and overall team chemistry (things related to and influenced by False) or because they like 17 in general?

It is not that deep but also seeing False's diminishing relevance in the mainstream HC fandom over the years is kinda... disappointing. Someone who's never watched a hermit on MCCReddit will mention False Supremacy. HBomb's chat loves False. Like I don't even know what happened?? False has been posting regularly, always have, she does her builds and collabs and pranks and infrastructure, she won the first event of the season, outsiders love her, and...? Like don't we love our slay cool #girlboss queen of hearts? Or does she need a different fanon archetype now? The mischievous prankster? The silly wet cat? The healer type who loves animals and gives them stupid names? The competitive warrior? Would you still love me when I'm no longer the designated girlboss of the group or whatever

Like ok yeah this is me being bitchy and a gatekeeper and False isn't even the most underrated hermit and she gets her share of love in fanart and stuff but yeah I've noticed the decline. You've got Redditors mentioning Empires people in the crossover in response to someone asking about Empires but not mentioning one hermit who was actually also in Empires. You've got people talking about "Hermitgals" but they replace False and Stress with Lizzie. You've got the fallout of Demise 2. You've got Redditors talking about Rendoc in relation to Ren like his only relevance is being Doc's friend/collab buddy when False exists and she's his favourite hermit. And you've got the False duo poll. Won't even go into the view counts/ sub counts because that's depressing for what feels like at least a third of the hermits (Cubfan you deserve way more). Doesn't feel good.

Back in 2020/21 she got shat on and her achievements ignored by some DSMP fans and now the same thing is happening but it's worse because it's from some HC fans. The call is coming from inside the house. And once again False isn't even the most overlooked hermit. For example Iskall STILL gets horrific hate comments about how he doesn't "deserve" to be a hermit because he plays VH more.

Hermitcraft is popular. I wish the other third of it is more popular.
