CONTENT I WANT TO CREATE:

To produce a series of photographs using a lighting studio so that I can enhance my studio shooting skills. 

Genre of photography selected is Fashion Editorial.

This shoot is a Fashion Editorial for a brand:  Strictly using clothing from an Up and Coming Auckland based designer:

The following magazines I picked are magazines that don't inhibit a very mainstream aesthetic; they focus a lot on featuring new and upcoming designers, artists and talents.

They also feature editorials with a very non-conventional approach with very interesting concepts, art-direction and styling and make-up. They appeal to audiences that are mostly  into low-key high fashion brands such as Ekhaus Latta, Comme Des Garcons, Maison Margiela, Rick Owens and etc. 

When it comes to doing the actual photoshoot, although it is a fashion editorial, I would still have to keep in mind that it is for advertisement so the shot types I would be doing are:  Medium Shots, Medium-Full Shots and Full shots so that I can showcase clothing, I would also think of adding extreme close-ups to show important design details. 

My main inspiration is fashion editorial/lookbooks from the 1990’s, one of the most noted fashion photographers from this time period is Craig McDean.

I chose this specific type fashion photography as from what I am seeing on instagram, the photographers I follow and admire, they often inhibits and take inspiration from 90’s art direction, fashion styling  this was also when print fashion magazines have reached its peak as it was very easy and convenient for people to get accessed to fashion magazines. 

This is mainly because the idea of nostalgia is bigger than ever, to the point where fashion brands utilizes it to their advantage, the feeling of nostalgia sells. The context on why photographers and art directors could be to make the customers feel like by purchasing the garments they feature, they’d be able to live a life that iconic people from the past lived. This is also why thrift shopping is bigger than ever before. “Nostalgia for the present.” was a term used in one of our reading for this term.
