Have you ever done anything out of character? Something random out of the blue that you spent time planning for, and you jumped the gun and did it earlier than anticipated. Don’t think about it; dive in. That’s precisely what I did last weekend.
Last week, I got a 2024 Kia Sportage, the SX Prestige trim. It’s the first new car I’ve purchased. I wanted the car at the end of 2024 but decided to purchase it now. The decision was easy, but what led to this decision? To sum up, I got the car because things felt stable in my life now. I will elaborate more later, but I wanted to focus on why I chose this car.
I read many articles, and people I’ve talked to had mixed reviews of Kia cars, both in terms of liking them and reliability. But, my family hasn’t had any issues with the Kia cars we got. Back in 2020, my family got a 2021 Kia Seltos. It was the first new car that anyone purchased. The car runs well, and it is still running well today. In July 2022, we traded another vehicle for a 2023 Kia Sportage. It was my mom’s car, and when I drove it, I enjoyed what the car had to offer. I wasn’t ready then for the car, but I knew I wanted to get one later. I tried to ride my vehicle until the “wheels fell off.” Well, I drove my last car to 157,000 miles before I gave in.
Do I regret this decision? Short Term answer: Yes and no.
Yes
I once again have car payments. This car costs $41,000 after taxes, title, and trade-in. I haven’t had to make a car payment for the past four years. My last vehicle was a $264 payment each month. It was nice to put that money away for savings or other purchases I wanted. Even putting $15,000 down, I took out a four-year loan at 5.25% APR, and my payments are $619 a month, 2.5x what I paid on my last car loan. I have the money to cover it and plan to repay the loan in at least three and a half years or sooner. I would not go above 48 months, and neither should anyone reading this article that is getting a new or used vehicle. From what I’ve read from Clark Howard, it makes sense to follow the rule of 42 when you get a car loan.
No
I’m happy with my purchase. The previous car I drove was a 2014 Mazda CX-5. To me, getting the Sportage is a considerable upgrade. Driving my mom’s car, I envied the safety features and Apple CarPlay she had. Now that I have that in my car and more features. I wanted the hybrid model and went with the SX Prestige Model for the features. I was looking for features in a car, such as a moonroof, safety sensors, blind spot camera mirrors, and a temperature-controlled cabin. There were even features that I didn’t know the car had, like mood lighting and scheduling when to start your car on the app. There are many things that I’d like to mention that I don’t have time to put down right now.
Overall, I’m happy with this car. I may revisit this later on as I continue to use it. Is there anything that I should be aware of? Are people pleased with the vehicle or disappointed? Please let me know in the comments.

2021 Kia Seltos EX: The New Subcompact King
Text and photos by Michael Hozjan
I can’t recall a time when I saw a subcompact SUV/crossover and thought, “Hmm that looks muscular”. Yet one can’t help but label Kia’s latest SUV as just that. A quick look might mistake it for the upper crust, double the price, Range Rover Evoque. Good company indeed if you’re hunting down customers in the lucrative subcompact SUV market.
There are two basic categories that I label the subcompacts in, the cute utes, which are little more than higher riding four door hatchbacks (crossovers) and those that actually do have some utilitarian purpose. Case in point this week’s test vehicle.
Slotted between the boxy Soul and the sleek Sportage, the Seltos gives Kia another ace in its SUV/Crossover lineup. (Wasn’t it just a few years ago that the Sportage was in the subcompact SUV category?) Manufacturers being what they are, continually bloat their vehicles until it’s lost all its former character and then unveil another model to make up the void left behind. Enter the Seltos, and I’m glad the Seltos has come along. Based on an extended platform of its corporate cousin, the sleek and stylish Hyundai Kona, the Kia is sure to shake up the category.
Regular readers may recall that last December I raved about the Kona and its surprisingly sharp handling with quick giddy up’n go from 1.6L turbocharged four, making it an above average contender in the hotly contested subcompact crossover segment. But what if you need more space? The Seltos does just that taking it a step further with an extra 30mm of wheelbase and an additional 205mm of overall length over the Kona, yet the two handle similarly. The added wheelbase and squarish cabin pay off with greater head, hip, shoulder and cargo room. The Seltos has a generous 62.8 cu.ft. with the rear seats folded versus the Kona’s 45.8 cu.ft. You can stick an adult’s bicycle into the rear…how many subcompact SUVs can make that claim! Rear seats fold almost flat, more on the interior later.
Coupled with a taller ride height, the Kia also greatly improves egress and ingress over the Kona. Of course there are several other contenders vying for the Seltos’ spot, and not just the Kona, including Chevy’s Trailblazer, Ford’s EcoSport, the Buick Encore and Subaru’s Crosstrek, to name just a handful.
Five trim levels make up the Seltos line starting at $24, 905* for the front-wheel-drive LX. Opting for the LX all-wheel-drive version with 17” wheels replacing the 16 inchers will cost you an additional two grand. This is the priced-right sweetheart package if you don’t mind giving up the sunroof and a few minor trim pieces. The rest of the Seltos catalog is all-wheel-drive, which include the EX, EX Premium. Power is derived from the 2.0L Nu Atkinson-cycle four developing 146 horses and 132 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a continuously variable trans (CVT). I do wish a manual tranny was available?
Topping off the line is the SX Turbo at $34,505*, and as the name suggests is powered by the same 1.6L Turbo GDI mill that I found in the Kona, pumping out 175 horses and 195 lb-ft of torque through a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
My $ 29,775* EX (Includes $250 surcharge for the Neptune Blue shade) came with a power sunroof, LED taillights, 17” wheels, chrome grille, satin belt trim, which I might add really made the lines pop, keyless entry and premium leatherette seat trim (premium leatherette? Marketing departments never cease to amaze me). From a safety perspective the EX comes with forward collision and lane follow assist, rear cross traffic alert. In true Kia fashion, there is a load of equipment that is standard even on the base models that other manufacturers option out. Items like heated mirrors, keyless entry, heated seats and steering wheel, automatic headlights and heated washer nozzle – great for our climate.
While you won’t set any speed records with the base mill, it’s anything but sluggish and you’ll get rewarded at the gas pump. I averaged an impressive 7.8l/100kms with mostly, but not exclusively highway travel. The 2.0L had no trouble in passing semis, matter of fact I caught myself more than once getting into ticket country. Yes it’s that smooth. On with the cruise control just to keep me legal.
As you may know we’re in search of a replacement to our X-Trail and the Seltos also has a centre-locking differential, making it that much easier to tread through the deep stuff that is coming. Off roaders will also appreciate the hill descent control.
But while the Seltos gives an above average ride, its Achilles heal are the hard seats. It’s a trait I’ve never associated with Kias in the past. My power window was a nuisance trying to it to stop where I wanted it.
Happily the rest of the interior is all Kia; the eight-inch touchscreen has clear graphics and is connected to a six-speaker audio system sound. Sadly sat radio only comes into play on the Ex Premium. Outward visibility is excellent, except for the back window; the three rear seat headrests hamper the view. I do wish manufacturers would follow Volvo’s lead with hollowed out headrests.
The generous amount of head and leg room isn’t exclusive to the driver and shotgun rider either; second-row passengers will enjoy the airiness and get reclining seatbacks.
Above: Space saver spare - while not a full-size spare it is better than an inflation kit that others offer.
Judging by the flood of television spots Kia has invested in promoting the Seltos to 20 somethings, the 20 somethings in my crowd are more concerned about sporty coupes than subcompact SUVs. If anything I can see the Seltos being a big success with seniors, but something needs to be done about those seats.
If you’re idea of a good subcompact includes loads of cargo space and a spacious passenger compartment, above average handling, good performance with good gas mileage backed by a solid warranty you need not look any further, and I suspect that over the coming months the roads will be covered with them.

That is the very reason Galaxy Car Hire offers easy access to this model when people look for Luxury Car Rental Lahore. This 4 wheeler has stylish curves, a sleek exterior, and a secure interior to offer passengers.
Here are a few reasons why one should get this car as a personal rental in Lahore.
Luxury Car Rental Lahore
Kia Sportage features premium Nightfall Edition in its 2021 vehicle. These appearance packages replace last year's sunroof and feature a variety of 18-inch wheels, specific to the S-trim level. They also feature a new Sportage badge spread over the entire hatchback.
Engine, Transmission And Performance
The compact crossover is no faster than the turbocharged Sport. The last test drives the Sportage SX Turbo tested were amazingly fast and are one of the fastest in its class. When it comes to a basic power train, a reliable six-speed automatic transmission and a quiet but efficient non-turbo four-cylinder will meet the needs of most people. There is no difference between day and night in the joy of driving between engines, although the aggressive SX Turbo can turn a milk race into a fun ride. All sports have more than average handling features.
Access, Comfort And Luggage
Some editors have compared the interior of this Kia to an Audi product, which means it's doing something right. The Sportage's cabin is well-packed with a pleasant mix of standard materials and smart functional features. It's a very spacious environment for travelers. The back seats fit adults. Class L cargo space is limited and there is a lack of storage space for small items, but it has the capacity for fewer seats and an adjusted cargo floor, some of which is made up of.
Infotainment And Communication
All Kia Sportage 2021 models are equipped with an 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system that comprises standard Apple Car Play and Android Auto functions. The system is easy to use thanks to the physical knobs and buttons, the menus have icons, and the design looks as elegant as the rest of the interior.
These features make Kia Sportage 2021 a productive model that has equipment one needs while traveling. You can feel good by sitting in this car and can impress people around you with its deluxe looks. The compartment for storage is also big so there will be room to put luggage and extra gear in the car. Approximately 5 people can sit inside this amazing car and enjoy their journey while using high technology, powerful navigation, and comfortable seating.
If you want this car in Lahore at reasonable rates to rent, then visit Galaxy Car Hire. We will never disappoint you as we have a history of perfect management and quality maintenance.

Kia Sportage EX Premium S: Weekend Fun
Words and Pics By Michael Hozjan
Having received redesigned front and rear facias and new headlight treatment last year, the 2021 Sportage goes virtually unchanged save for a few minor refinements here and there. Which is just fine by me as the Sportage remains as one of my top favorites for its driving fun. The snow-white pearl paint on my tester doesn’t do the Sportage’s lines justice, too bad because it is nicely styled, with better outward all-around visibility than some other crossovers in the category.
The base Sportage, the LX, is the only front wheel driver and starts at $27,760. It rides on 17” rubber (other trims ride on 18 inchers, with 19s dressing the top dog SX) and you get dual heated cloth front seats, heated side mirrors, projection head and fog lights, 8” audio display screen and a rear view camera.
My EX Premium S, is the all-dressed version with the base 2.4L inline-four that dishes out 181 horses and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2.4L pegs the Sportage somewhere in the middle of the horsepower race in the category, and though there are mightier powerplants in the category the Kia’s engine is buttery smooth in power delivery. Since you asked, the Sportage’s corporate cousin, the Hyundai Tucson pumps out 181 horses and 175 lb.-ft. with its smaller 2.0L inline four. If you absolutely need more power, the top banana, Sportage SX comes with a 2.0L turbocharged four that delivers 237 horses and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. It’ll set you back $41,960.
A six-speed automatic is the sole tranny available no matter which engine or drive configuration you opt for. One of the niceties of Kia’s Dynamax all-wheel-drive system is that the Sportage gets a 4x4 lock button, to deliver power to the front and back axles for those times you get bogged down in the deep stuff.
As I said earlier the Sportage is a fun vehicle to drive with above average handling; its size makes it easy to toss into tight city parking spots, the suspension is just stiff enough to flatten curvy lakeside roads yet keep the ride comfortable. Add to it the Sportage’s quiet ride and the weekend drives are a joy.
There aren’t any surprises in the well-executed greenhouse, Kia fit is paramount throughout its vehicle line up and the Sportage is no exception. Dials, switches, steering wheel mounted controls are all easy to figure out without spending a weekend pouring over the owner’s manual. Ingress and egress is excellent in front but you might hear some complaining about the low placement of the seat cushion from rear seat passengers. Cargo space is 30.7 cu.ft. with the rear seat up and 60.1 cu.ft. when folded. There is a sliver of additional storage space under the cargo bed floor that holds a tire inflator, more on this later.
My EX Premium S came with synthetic leather seats, power driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, dual zone climate control, wireless phone charging, and the smart power liftgate. Other features in this trim include rear parking sensors, forward collision avoidance assist, and lane keep assist. On the outside, LED headlights and taillights set the EX Premium S apart from the lesser models.
The verdict
Not all is rosy on the Kia’s front, fuel consumption is on the high side for such a small scrambler, I averaged 9.2L/100kms with mostly highway travel and this was prior to winter’s cold snap settling in, so warm up times were minimal. Secondly, the SX is the only trim that gets a spare tire, and a space saver to boot, all other Sportages leave the factory with a mickey mouse tire inflator. How is a tire inflator supposed to help when you’ve got a bent rim because you hit one of our provinces third world grade pot holes, or suffered a blow out on Sunday night? Take away the two-tier cargo platform and please, oh please, give me a spare Kia.
On the up side, the Sportage garnered a five-star crash test rating from both the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), couple that with handsome styling, above average handling and a great five-year/100,000-kilometre warranty should easily put the Sportage on your shopping list.
