what got you into chnt/made u discover it? :3

I heard about CHNT through being in the fiction podcast fandom-sphere around the time of its release (way back when I was SUPER into TMA), and then I was EXTRA incentivized to listen bc of Will Wood’s CH&T album. Ive been here since the relative beginning, and as soon as I listened to the first episode… um. I um. I have never recovered /lhj

Due to feeling intense brainrot for this new The Thing au me and Rufus made I'm gonna make a kinda. intro? post to it? basically listing off the characters with basic descriptions and the whole. premise of the au. You will listen to me ramble. no you don't have a choice. /lhj

BASICALLY. the au is a crossover between TMC and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), and is about the main TMC cast working at an antarctic research station before being attacked and picked off one by one by an alien entity that mimics organic material. It follows most of the same events as the movie does, though has quite a few differences from the source material that we'll. discuss later. In the meantime, here's the main cast:

Mark Heathcliff (34): Already touched on this dude's main deal in another post but i'll add some things here. He's the head mechanic of the station, and is quiet, and a bit of a loner. He's a recovering (or attempting to recover) alcoholic that is estranged from his family due to such, and only maintains contact with his sister, Sarah. He sometimes lets his emotions get to him, though he knows how to act in serious situations.

Sarah Heathcliff (21): A college student studying electronics, and was invited to the research facility by Mark because she was thinking of working there one day. Still has some grudges against Mark, as their relationship isn't perfect, but she still cares about him and Mark still cares about her. Becomes friends with Evelin.

Evelin Miller (22): The helicopter pilot and technician of the group. Also a bit of a loner, but helps around the facility whenever needed. Hangs out with Dave sometimes.

Cesar Torres (35): The dog Handler of the group, and thus spends a lot of time with the dogs. Is friends with Mark, though their friendship is. rocky, even if they're trying to fix things between each other. He's a bit more social than Mark, though isn't super energetic either. Overall, the voice of reason.

Dave Lee (46): The Biologist of the group. Is pretty friendly towards his coworkers, albeit awkward at times. Also has an interest in tech, even if it isn't his main profession. Though, he tends to make rash decisions when stressed.

Thatcher Davis (45): One of the station commanders. Overall: very tired and stressed. all the time. DEFINITELY has cabin fever. Overall pretty blunt, and occasionally rude, though he almost never means it in malice that's just how he sounds-

Ruth Weaver (46): The second Station commander, as well as a physician/medic. Quiet and calm in stressful situations most of the time, and is overall just there to help.

Jonah Marshall (23): The radio operator and cook of the group. Overall pretty positive and jokes a lot, though gets stressed and frustrated easily, along with being a bit of a coward at times.

Adam Murray (23(?)): A man who doesn't remember who he is after waking up in a Norwegian research base in the arctic. He doesn't remember much of anything from his past, and is unsure why he's so cold, or why he was found with blood on him.

Gabriel (30): The station commander and medic of the Norwegian research facility. Found Adam and took him in to be treated for frostbite. they seem nice, though something about their stare is. unnerving. They have a few coworkers as well (though they don't have proper names or personalities/occupations yet. Though one of them goes by Six, and is. oddly quiet.)

Me (G) and Seven (S) are co-hosts, so we’re both doing this.

How long have you been a host, and are you aware of the previous host?

G: I’ve been host for as long as I can remember. I’m not really the “original” host because at some point we switched hosts and I’ve been through a few integrations anyway, but I don’t really remember not being the host. As for knowing the previous host, I’m not even sure if they’re around anymore.

S: I’ve been host for a few months now maybe? Not very long lol

Do you identify with the body?

G: Not really. I try to make it look like me, but it really doesn’t. At this point, though, I don’t mind. 

S: Nope, although I think I identify with it more than Gremlin lol. 

How long have you known that you’re not alone?

G + S: We’re not sure. We think the previous host was aware of it, even when we were really young, but we kind of forgot about it until recently. I think we’ve been aware of each other for a year at this point.

Do you have access to the inner world? Do you have a buddy in the system?

G: I have very limited access to the inner world. I can and do go there sometimes, but its more likely for me to just disappear when I’m not fronting. I have many friends in the system, considering I have like four or five sibling figures, and most of us get along well.

S: I use the inner world a lot. Shit gets overwhelming really quickly for me, which is why there are two hosts and not one. I guess my buddy is Gremlin, although I have a brother in the system and another brother figure who I’m also very close with.

Is there an alter in the system who doesn’t like you?

G: Sort of. I mean, our gatekeeper doesn’t like anyone, and there are a few alters who aren’t very friendly or dislike most of us, but I don’t think anyone dislikes me specifically.

S: Basically the same answer. Idk anyone really cares about me, I keep to myself a lot.

Does the body’s parents ever suspect of you being a system? If yes, when?

G: Not really. I don’t think they give enough shits about us to notice lol

S: What do you mean parents? Never heard of them /lhj

Is being a host difficult to you? What’s your favorite and least favorite part of hosting?

G: Seven’s whole existence is because hosting is difficult for me. I’m only the host because I’m the alter best equipped to deal with our chronic pain and stuff, and so I end up fronting the most. It gets really annoying fast. My favorite part is probably just like... getting to do stuff? Idk how to explain it. My least favorite part is probably dealing with school

S: As I said, I get overwhelmed easily. I only really take over when Gremlin can’t, but I’m not able to do much when I do. My favorite part of hosting is listening to music, and my least favorite part is dealing with things that make me feel things.

Do you have the same appearance in the inner world? If you’re out as a system, can people recognize you?

G: No and no. My innerworld appearance changes constantly, but generally I look either like the body but older and more masc, or the body but masc and with horns and wings. But also I look nothing like the body. Idk. We’re also only out to like, three friends as a system, and because we get uncomfortable telling people system stuff they don’t really recognize anyone.

S: I don’t look like the body very much in the innerworld. And I don’t socialize much lol

What’s the funniest interaction you had with someone in your system? Is there someone you wish you could communicate more with?

G: Funniest interaction has got to be with Seven over here. The amount of times he has done the wildest bullshit and when asked why he did it just answered “idk” is insane. I guess I want to talk to Cupid more. He’s a recovering persecutor, and he’s very shy, and I just wanna help him. 

S: Uhhh funniest interaction? Idk. This is not my question lol

Do you think you’re doing a good job as host? Do you wish you could give the role to someone else? If so, who?

G: I do not trust any of these idiots with living our life, so nobody else is gonna be host. Am I doing a good job? Hell if I know. I’m not dead yet, I’ve got that going for me.

S: I’m doing fine. Not great, but everyone has bad days. I should be allowed some. And I wouldn’t wish this on anyone else, because nobody else is really equipped to deal with it, you know?

S: Uhh thanks for everything.

G: Try not to fuck up, but if you do thats fine. Also try to not be a dumbass.
