I have totally stolen this tag from @ladyvaderpixetc, for fifteen fave shows!
1. The OA: I will never forgive its cancellation. Contains my number one problematic ship of all time. A true declaration of love in all its forms in a neat two seasons that should have been allowed to grow and continue. I adore it.
2. Altered Carbon (season 1): still love season 2 but it lacked some kind of pizazz I still can't pinpoint. Wonderful exploration of grief and life. Better than the book. Women led!!
3. True Blood: Eric being uninvited from Sookie's house and levitating backwards, offended, out the door will never not be peak comedy. I will never read the books because I don't want to read a world where Lafayette does not live.
4. Daredevil season 2/The Punisher season 1: season 2 of The Punisher was bad. I miss him.
5. Midnight Mass: beautiful, gorgeous, perfection in all its forms. The priest is hot and misguided.
6. Haunting of Bly Manor: queer grief, Big Sads, falling in love with a ghost, blows Hill House out of the water.
7.Battlestar Galactica: the only good thing my worst ex ever introduced me to. Suffering always for my crush on angry old man Saul Tigh. Bisexual disasters everywhere. Starbuck would beat me up and I'd let her.
8. Succession: only time I care about billionaires. Cycle of abuse in all its forms. Would Get Down Mr. President for Kieran Culkin any day of the week.
9. Sharp Objects: gorgeous, heartbreaking, equally as wonderful as the book.
10. Lucifer: goofy as hell award. Would simply declare my love for Amenadiel always. Also Mazikeen.
11. Raised by Wolves: when I tell you I had dreams of flying around like Mother for MONTHS. Incensed by the cancellation. Let beautiful things exist and continue!! Sadly suffers from annoying main character syndrome.
12. Evil: only religious themed show to not give me the ick. Actually frightening antagonist in the form of a pathetic little incel wet man who is constantly being foiled by a gaggle of prepubescent girls. Old nun who is fighting her own war with a broom and a mop.
13. The Americans: loved it more than Breaking Bad 🤷‍♂️, very bittersweet ending.
14. Shameless: never over Mandy's everything, Lip, Carl going from chaos incarnate to Good Man and the scene of Frank thinking that little sick girl in the hospital who passed was Fiona. They did Debbie dirty.
15. Walking Dead season 4: hot cowboy cop rips man's throat out with teeth, reaffirms familial bonds, more at eleven.
Honorary mentions: Mindhunter, House MD, Yellowjackets, The Office (US), Halo, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire, Mare of Easttown, The Outsider, American Horror Story, The Last Kingdom, Black Mirror, Sons if Anarchy, Westworld, Spartacus.

ngl voyager gets a whole lot of very disproportional hate from the fandom and i'd hazard a guess that a lot of that is just garden-variety misogyny (and probably racism mixed in, considering how many of the most prominent characters are women, poc, or both). like, is voyager perfect? absolutely not. and no spoilers but there was a lot of executive meddling that wound up leading to the finale/conclusion being lacking and there's a lot of reasonable dissatisfaction with that--but again that was largely thanks to the execs fucking the show over and i recommend looking into that if you can once you've finished the show. but overall? voyager is trek right to its very core--it has heart, it's about family, and it never loses sight of that imo, even if some episodes are weaker or just duds (but, like, would it be a trek series without some episodes that just kinda suck but are still fun to watch???)
anyway, i absolutely love that you're getting into voyager, it is my all-time favorite trek series to this day for a lot of reasons, and i hope that ppl like that anon dont put you off bc i'd love to continue to see your thoughts as you watch the series!
Oh, it would take a whole lot more than some anons being salty that others enjoy things to turn me off :D
Thus far (I lost internet last night so I’m still only on Episode 7 of Season 2), Voyager is the Trekiest Trek I’ve watched. Which is a weird sentence, but I mean it in the way you said it’s “trek right to its very core.” What is Star Trek, if we strip the intent of the story down to its basics? It’s about exploration, discovery, that “wagon train to the stars,” wrapped up in the argument that life is fundamentally good. We have problems, but we can work past them. We have differences, but they strengthen us. Diversity is the lifeblood of the universe and the future will continue to improve so long as we embrace that.
Voyager is (again, from what I’ve seen so far!) basically a love song to that premise. I didn’t do too deep a dive because I’m trying to avoid spoilers, but I did look at a couple threads discussing why Voyager is so hated. Again and again I saw the same reason pop up: wasted potential. Now, a lot of fans left it at that (as if the answer to what potential Voyager apparently missed out on is self-evident. It’s not), but those who did expand on the idea consistently claimed that the show needed to be darker than it was, even if they rarely said it like that. Why aren’t the Federation and the Marquis at each other’s throats? Why isn’t the crew going crazy under these circumstances? Why aren’t characters getting killed off left and right in hostile space? “Anything could have happened out there and they played it safe!” but the “anything” here is always... awful. There’s this very pervasive idea that the world is inherently cruel, people are inherently divisive, that when pushed to the brink everything will fall apart... and that (while making for one kind of great story) is very much not Star Trek.
See, Voyager created an unimaginable scenario--lost in space, 75 years from home, forced to live indefinitely with strangers--and their answer to the question of “What happens?” is “People make it work.” They learn to respect one another, they uphold their ideals, they maintain a love of life and discovery, and they create a family. And that’s fucking fantastic. That’s Star Trek! I’m not going to pretend there aren’t problems with the show, with plenty more to come, I’m sure, but I don’t think this is one of them. Why do so many viewers think that hatred, horror, death, and growing jaded is the only potential here? Why would they expect that in a Star Trek show whose premise is the very antithesis of those things?
“But they don’t do enough with those things, even if they have happy outcomes.” They do plenty, they just do it in an episodic rather than serialized nature. I can point to multiple episodes where the replicator rations or Maquis differences are driving the characters’ actions. “But without that horror there’s no conflict.” There’s plenty of conflict. Hostile aliens aside, I just watched an episode where Tuvok and Chakotay are pissed as hell at one another because they fundamentally disagree over how to handle problems, but--because they’re adults with a well-tested respect for one another--they apologize and work through it. “But the characters don’t develop at all.” You mean they don’t grow harder. That’s not the same thing as no development. Tuvok is figuring out how to be more flexible, Chakotay is becoming more willing to accept cultures he doesn’t agree with, Harry is growing more confident now that he’s far from home, the Doctor is learning to see himself as a person, Paris is grabbing his second chance with both hands by making strong ties, and Janeway is learning to command and care for her crew simultaneously. I honestly believe that a lot of people think of “character development” as the character becoming a fundamentally different person, unrecognizable from where they started out. But  characters can also grow into the people they wanted to be in the first place. “We’re far from home, in hostile territory, tempted to do horrific things to survive... but no. Right now at least, we’re holding onto who we are. We’re scientists, so we’re going to explore and learn. We’re peaceful, so we’re going to make friends with as many species as we can. We’re members of a society that teaches acceptance, so we’re going to form a family on this spaceship.” That’s incredible!! Did fans miss why Seska was an antagonist in the episode she was unmasked? Because she was trying to convince them to give up everything they believe in in the name of survival, an ends justify the means argument. And the crew said no, we will not give up what we believe in just to make it through. I legit saw a ton of fans saying some version of, “I can’t believe they were that far from home and actually followed Starfleet’s rulebook.” It’s because those rules don’t exist for the hell of it. Overlooking their practical function, they’re a philosophy that the characters believe in, and they’re figuring out how important that part of their identity is to them under these circumstances. Am I willing to steal a specie’s technology if it gets us home? Am I willing to die to help another uphold their own philosophy? (Chakotay in “Imitations”). What regulations should we bend or change to accommodate our new situation? The first two things Janeway does are a) giving the guy who just came out of a penal colony a rank and b) deciding that she needs to be more familiar with her crew than is normally encouraged for a captain because she’s essentially their mom now. Developing doesn’t have to mean characters do a 180 on their initial personality, or characters getting killed off when stuff gets “boring” so that others can do edgy things in response.
Voyager upholds Trek’s premise and runs it to its logical conclusion:
Voyager has the most literal trek--a trek back home.
Voyager has the most diverse crew--a woman Captain, Native American First officer, black Vulcan, Asian-American communications officer, and a White Dude pilot that realizes he wants to be soft and kind towards those who took a chance on him because Toxic Masculinity who?
Voyager has the most literal family--not just a 5+ year mission, but a crew who expects to raise the next generation. They have no choice but to work together, so they indeed come together rather than pulling apart
Except they do, of course, have a choice. In “The 37′s” the crew is allowed to stay on the Earth-like planet with a city of other humans and Janeway is convinced that a sizable number will choose that. After all, they may never get home and this is a safer, kinder future for them. In fact, the real question is whether so many will stay that they can no longer run the ship... but Janeway would never dictate her crew’s choices in that manner. So she swallows her worry down, opens the door...
... and finds that not a single person decided to stay behind. And the show has ensured we understand that this is not just because they all have some unshakable belief that they’ll get home (many don’t), but because this is their family now. This is home.
And fans want to toss that out for a generic, gritty, sci-fi adventure where hope is scarce, the universe is cruel, and people need to be pushed to the limit just to admit that they maybe, sort of, like each other?? Obviously like what you like, but that’s a hard pass for me. I’ll take the bridge crew comforting each other in “Twisted,” thanks. Besides, we already have shows like that. And we already have DS9 which grapples with many of those dark, pessimistic themes. Voyager feels like a breath of fresh air, even within the breath of fresh air that is Star Trek as a franchise. It’s a show that says, “Yes, when everything goes wrong people will come together. They will love each other. They will make it through.”
What’s more Star Trek than that?

please make your critical post of supernatural those are literally the only posts about supernatural i care about, especially since i side eye the heck out of the many people who give supernatural a pass because they ship two boring white dudes (dean and castiel) PLEASE
omg ok nobody make fun of me for posting an earnest criticism of this show i enjoy critical analysis and being a hater
i think most of why this show sucks has already been covered pretty thoroughly but these r the main things abt it that piss ME off.
the racism runs so SO deep. supernatural is supposed to be an exploration of americana thru horror (and i’ll give them that. like the idea of deconstructing america and all its fallacies thru horror is genius and in competent hands it would be absolutely incredible. but anyway) but it only really scrapes the surface of what is inherently horrific about americana! something like that is supposed to be an INTERROGATION of monstrosity and how america (and western society more broadly) creates monsters out of human beings and how white christian morals are established as the ONLY acceptable morals and how anyone who falls outside of those norms (non christian, non white, lgbt, people with substance use disorders, prisoners, the poor, indigenous people/cultures etc) are monsterized, so to speak, because of an oppressive and unloving colonial society. like u cannot have a horror narrative abt monsters attacking family values and white suburban life without invoking some very old and racist conventions! but instead of subverting that supernatural just reinforces it! it consistently fails to make any kind of real statement because the most demonized parts of society are the people who are also treated the WORST in canon! native american beliefs are stolen and turned into stupid bogeymen without the show ever featuring a native character or seriously grappling with the inherent violence of america as a colonial state, black men are consistently portrayed as angry and evil while black women are treated like shit (dean’s happy ending at the end of s5 is with a white woman he fucked one time instead of with the black woman who he was in love with??), impoverished people are mostly ignored and when they’re not theyre monsters (theres one episode centered around a poor rural family that commits murder and cannibalism. no supernatural stuff or monsters. just poor people. thats the scare).
theres this consistent fixation on preserving american suburbia, on saving “normal” (read: white middle class) people and it sets up this dynamic of like. the “real world” is the white middle class and then there’s hunters including our mains who defend that “real world” against monsters and demons, which is just Everything Else. and the writers PRETEND to struggle w the question of monsters and what makes one but they just toss it around without ever actually committing to answering that question with compassion or narrative coherency. they have multiple episodes about characters who were raised human, who want to be human, but have to be killed because of an inherent evil nature. there’s a plot in the early seasons about how one of the main characters has demonic powers, and instead of saying that doesnt make him inherently bad and he’s allowed to fully access all parts of himself without being fundamentally evil, they consistently frame intrinsically neutral traits as inherently evil specifically because they go against a christian ideal of morality! and eventually he learns to suppress these powers and that’s that!
and then it establishes christianity as the guiding principle of america, not in a way of like “american culture and history is deeply steeped in white supremacist protestantism that has led to incredibly fucked up views on god and love and morality and thats what we have to deal with as people who live here”, but in a way of like “the christian god is real and he’s a white guy who fucking hates you.” which like. Ok. they bastardize and trivialize any religions that arent christian while building the entire series on christianity. Ok. like i guess its possible to write stories about white christianity without implying that every other religion is full of shit but supernatural did not do that on any level
its also just. really poorly written. i genuinely loved the first season i thought it was really well paced and that the characters were introduced really well like the first season is a GOOD horror story in terms of family as horror and the inherent terror of americana. but the pacing and the character development started tripping up in s2. by s3 they started raising the stakes Exponentially which honestly is such a kiss of death for good fiction like every season mounting a bigger badder antagonist than the last one is the surest way to kill a story bc it means the earlier entries in that story become basically meaningless in the face of the new bad guy. u dont need to raise the stakes to write a good story! a well written story abt the horror and drama of a close knit and unhealthy family caught up in something they don’t really understand isn’t Less emotionally resonant than, like, having to stop the world from ending, because at the end of the day its Fiction and none of it matters beyond what u can make the audience really Feel. im not gonna feel sorrow if 7 billion fake little people die. i didnt cry when the death star blew up whatever planet it blew up. what DOES make me feel sorrow is a few truly well written characters whose relationships are complicated and tragic and whose motivations i can understand and whose inner lives i can imagine. raising the stakes destroys a good story and thats exactly what happened to supernatural (not that the racism and misogyny and american protestant moralizing wasn’t killing it already)
also, the misogyny makes the female characters basically impossible to watch. like not a single person on that show is a good actor (except sterling k brown love u king u were the best actor that show ever saw) but they didnt even give any of the women anything to work with. its literally so cringey to watch any woman onscreen except maybe like. bela talbot and she was treated like utter shit.
god. you know that expression dont fall in love with potential? i dont do that w people i do it w fiction. i came off black sails and the untamed and frankenstein and i watched the first couple seasons of supernatural with my friend and it was like...there was so much room for it to SAY something about monsters and how society creates them thru violence and how deeply horrific american protestantism is. like theres so many questions and concepts that it brought up that it never actually SAID something about. shithole of wasted potential. and yeah dean and castiel is stupid there i said it

Blaseball
(The Commissioner is doing a great job.)
I’ve never really ‘gotten’ sports. At the very least, I’ve never gotten watching sports. But having played Blaseball, I think I kind of understand. After an hour I was ride or die for my favourite team, Yellowstone Magic (which I had chosen from the list of teams at the start), changed my social media status to their slogan, had a resentment for King Weatherman, loved Francisco Preston and Washer Barajas, was chanting ‘eat the rich’ at my desk as I got up money for votes, occasionally checked the Forbidden Book to see if any new information had been divulged, and was always secretly praying that none of the umpires would incinerate any of the Magic’s players.
And if you have no idea what any of that means, I don’t blame you! Blaseball is definitely a cult-type kind of game (like a certain webcomic), where you go with the flow and the chaos is part of the charm. However, for a more penetrable explanation, Blaseball is a lo-fi simulator of baseball with a cosmic horror-esque theme and twist. 20 teams (with names such as the Canada Moist Talkers and the Hellmouth Sunbeams) face off in 99 games over the course of season (5 real-world days) on the incorporeal plane.
But while the players on the teams work to score, you, the player sitting behind a screen, don’t take part in such affairs. Instead, you try to accumulate (entirely fictional) money. The primary form is by betting on the games, which play on the hour, though you also gain some whenever your favourite team wins. The money can then be spent on votes, which are then forwarded for various games changes next season. Some of them affect the entire league, such as making stolen bases being worth .1 Runs, while others are meant to buff your team or debuff the opponents, such as Soul Swap, which a. is exactly what you think it sounds like, and b. randomizes the stats of your team’s 5 worst players. While the game-wide changes, or Decrees are determined by which one(s) have the most votes, the team effects (Blessings) are chosen by lottery, so having more votes for a particular blessing increases but does not guarantee the chances of your team snagging it. However, though the game itself is mostly a straight text and numbers-simulator (you can watch a log of the games if you know enough about regular baseball; I do not), the experience of the cultural event of Blaseball is much more than that. A trip over to your team’s page on the wiki will allow you to put (often lowkey absurd) faces to the silly names of your team’s players. For example, the Yellowstone Magic’s hitter Washer Barajas is literally a blaseball hat and bat caught in a geyser (and they’re amazing and I love them). And all of the information of created by the community as one collaborative storytelling event. It’s like one of those high-concept ‘what-if’ Tumblr or Twitter shitposts come to life.
And the barebones yet playfully absurd cosmic horror structure of Blaseball is perfect to encourage it. For all the current three seasons, at least one of the decrees passed has had no obvious mechanical effect. The first one was to open the Forbidden Book of Blaseball, which had the effect of collapsing the Moab desert into Hellmouth, turning the Sunbeams into the Hellmouth Sunbeams, letting people look at the (mostly redacted but slowly unwraveled) book, and allowing the umpires to incinerate players. The absurdity and the openess just allow for an absolutely forkwild story where everyone just rolls with it and is along for the ride.
And isn’t that what sports fandom is kind of about? Creating stories out of events, mythologizing the players, and engaing with a sort of play-tribalism with your favourite team? Right now it’s just been revealed that the effects of the new ‘Feedback’ weather causes players to swap teams with eachother, and people in the Magic Discord are speculating on how other teams would justify having Washer Barajas switch to their team, or the drama that would come from having King Weatherman (player of the Boston Flowers and rival to the entire Yellowstone Magic) switch over to ours. It’s excitement for the uncertainty and the potential stories in the world that everyone’s created. Additionally, the dedication of Blaseball fans stretches beyond just the game. Sunday has been named ‘Blaseball Cares’ day, where team communities highlight various causes and organizations for fans to donate to, such as the Transformative Justice Law project or North American Association for Environmental Education. So aside from being a Fun Absurdist Baseball Simulator, Blaseball has done some serious good.
If you take anything from this issue, it’s that if you decide to join the cultural event of Blaseball, you should join the Yellowstone Magic. We’re super friggin’ cool. ✨ As above, so below! ✨

Survey #438
“i won’t let you die, keep you alive just to remind you of what you are not”
What is your favorite card game? Probably Magic: The Gathering, even though I'm not great at it. I just ADORE the artwork, mainly. Is YouTube one of your favorite websites? Yeah, given I'm constantly on it. Does your mother have a sister? If so, what’s her name? Yeah, named Kelly. What are you doing tomorrow? I'll be going with Mom to the pool at the gym. She goes Tuesdays and Thursday, so I'm going to start joining her to help ease soreness from my exercise days. Would you ever want to go to Africa? It's high on my bucket list! I am DESPERATE to visit the KMP and photograph and pet and pamper the meerkats. :') Last time you went bowling? Not since I was on a date with Girt. Would you ever want to own a bakery? Noooo, I don't enjoy cooking of any sort. I'm way too impatient. Do you like to text? It's funny, I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I make typos too much and autocorrect only wants to work at the WRONG time, it seems. I'd still rather text than actually talk on the phone, though. You want your next pet to be what? To be realistic, it'll probably be a western hognose snake. I REALLY want a tarantula, but Mom absolutely will not allow it for as long as I live with her, lol. Trust me, I've pestered her about it. Would you rather be a vampire or a mermaid? Eh, probably a vampire. Do you prefer white or black electronics? Black. Do you like Nerds candy? Yeah. Is your favorite animal something you can have as a pet? I could write a college-length essay on why you absolutely shouldn't, but it's sadly legal in some countries. Thankfully, not America. What was the last classic novel you read? Did you enjoy it? Oh yikes, I have no idea. Name three movies which have a soundtrack you really love: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Tarzan, and The Blair Witch Project: Book of Shadows. What’s the scariest video game you’ve ever played? I know it's super cliche, but I genuinely found Outlast terrifying. As well, SCP Containment Breach is a game I can't even play because the jumpscares startle me too much, lol. They're just too loud. Do you own any pet fish? What kind of fish are they? No. I'm not really interested in keeping fish as pets. What is the most irritating thing that a boyfriend or girlfriend has ever done to you? Tyler wanted to talk CONSTANTLY. Barely even two weeks in and he got all bent out of shape over there being days we just didn't text. Like dude, especially this early in a relationship, I don't want to talk 24/7. He acted like we were together for years or some shit. Like sorry I want alone time. That relationship was just a bad idea. Have you ever known someone who was in an abusive relationship? Sadly. Out of all of your friends/relatives, who would you say has the best vocabulary? Probably Girt. He's just in general very smart. When yawning, do you cover your mouth? If out in public, yes. If you had a garden, what would you plant in it? Would you actually tend to it, or would it wind up neglected & withered? I could NEVER maintain a garden, but if I had the motivation and tolerance for the heat, that'd be nice. I'd love mostly flowers, and a grapevine would be pretty! Plus some strawberries. Do you like peanut butter? Yeah, definitely. What about marshmallows? Yep. How do you roast your marshmallows? They have to be BARELY brown at all. Like it has to be the liiightest toast. Do you eat s’mores? Ugh, hell yes. I really want some now, thanks. Own a lava lamp? No, but I'd love a pink one. :( Or black. Own any sort of glow-in-the-dark room accessory? No. Ever done something sexual in public? No, I have common decency. Do you like the taste of squid or eel? I COULD FUCKING NEVER TRY EITHER. Slimy or rubbery stuff like that is such a massive no. Ever date anybody in middle school? Yeah, Aaron in the 7th grade for a few months. Did you like to get dirty when you were little? I think I did. Like I know I loved speeding through mud puddles on my bike as a kid. Own anything that has to do with dragons or unicorns? I have a lot of dragon decor. Ever wanted to be a vet? Yep. Ever written your number in a public bathroom or a school text book? If so, did anyone actually call you? No. What type of weapon do you prefer? Uh, none...? I don't like weapons. Is there something that you haven’t told anyone that you actually would like to tell someone? No, not really. Would you rather watch a full season of American Idol, or So You Think You Can Dance? The latter, by far. I used to love that show. I really enjoy watching dances. Have you ever worn boxers? Pretty sure no? Last hickey was from? I've only gotten to that point with one person, you can figure it out. Have you ever put a kick me sign on the back of someone? No, that is so rude. Are there any inappropriate pictures of you anywhere? No. I've never taken an inappropriate picture. How many times do you tend to sneeze in a row? Two or three. Karma; believe or don’t? I don't believe it's a thing. I wish it was. Ever changed a diaper? Once. Or maybe twice? No plans on ever doing that again. When you see anything smaller than a quarter on the ground, do you pick it up? I don't even pick quarters up, really. Can bald guys ever be attractive? Um, yes? Do you like hugs? Yessss. Would you ever donate blood? Yeah, I have before. I'd just have to get better about drinking water so I don't faint. Are you keeping a secret from someone who needs to know the truth? No. Ever had the opposite sex over when no one was home? You make that sound so scandalous, lmao. Yeah. What is the last song to make you cry? "Another Life" by Motionless In White. Have you ever kissed someone in the rain? Yeah. Have you kissed someone with braces? No. Are you anyone’s first love? I don't believe so. Anything happen to you within the past month that made you really happy? I'M LOSING WEIGHTTTTTT. :') The gym is paying off! Is there a person of the opposite gender on your mind? That's kinda a permanent thing. He's always there, even if only in the back. Who was the last person to wink at you? My cat, ha ha. Did you parents know what gender you were before you were born? Yes. Are any of your really close friends pregnant right now? REALLY close friends, nope. Are you for or against inter-racial relationships? ... You know it's 2021, right???? This never should have been controversial. Have you ever been addicted to something unhealthy? Well, there's caffeine... When the holidays come around, do you watch holiday movies? No. When was the last time someone insulted you? What was the insult? I don't recall. Do you say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas” in order to avoid offending people who don’t celebrate Christmas? I honestly just say "merry Christmas." Have you ever made/played with a sock puppet before? Yes. Have you ever seen a waterfall (aside from in a fountain or other manmade things)? Only small ones. Are you a frequent sufferer of heartburn? Yes; I actually have a prescription for chronic heartburn. If I don't take it, I'll get heartburn to the point I come near tears. How many different colleges have you gone to? Three. How much stress can you handle? Ha, not a lot at all. What is one thing you thought you’d never do but have done or are doing? I'm 25 and feel like I've just... wasted so much, and I continue to. I never thought I'd make it to this age and to have gone so short a distance in terms of being a successful adult. Have you ever disowned a friend or family member for their beliefs? I've stopped being friends with people, yes. Do you ever feel like your life is too boring or predictable? It 120% is. Do you think you will die happy? To be honest... I think no a lot of the time. Do you like looking at pictures? Yeah. Are you a submissive person? Very. Do you believe the dead can have connections with the living? I do. What are your views on the death penalty? I support it in extreme cases. Once you prove to be a thorough monster that deeply endangers other humans... you don't deserve life. We as a society have to work together, not destroy one another. Do you like horror movies? Why or why not? Yeah! I like the thrill of them. Would you ever be able to become a vegan? No; I am FAR too picky with my food. I want to be vegan, but I just wouldn't survive. What was your favorite toy as a child? I had a whole story based around some plastic dinosaurs, alligators, deer, and Pokemon figurines. Who was your first best friend? What is your favorite memory of/with them? Are you two still friends? Brianna. I don't know what my favorite memory is... We made a lot. We're Facebook friends, but we don't talk anymore. Would you rather hang out with someone who is always high or someone who constantly wants to get drunk all the time? High, I guess. Drunk people I think get sloppier and, in some cases, angry. The (few) high people I've been around have just been chill and friendly. How did you meet your newest friend? I'm not entirely sure who I consider to be my newest friend. The last time you kissed someone, were your arms around their neck? I don't think so? I'm pretty sure I was just hugging her around the waist. You have to get a facial piercing, what do you get? I've mentioned how I wanna get my nose re-pierced in multiple surveys. Do you straighten your hair? No. When is the next time you will see the person you like? Who knows, dude. I really want to be able to walk for two minutes without feeling like I'm dying before I go to an airport again, and even more importantly, even as a fully-vaccinated person, I want Covid to chill out before I travel again. And who the fuck knows when that'll be since people don't want to listen to goddamn professionals. Did you get to sleep in today? I actually slept through my alarm and was late to gym today. :x Your first dog? I was born into the family with a collie named Trigger, but she passed when I was a baby, so I don't have any memories of her. We got what I want to say was a Rottweiler mix named Angel at one point, who I consider our first family dog, but she was born with that disease that some puppies have where they just... die. Who I consider MY first REAL dog was Teddy. <3 Stood loyally by my side as my furry son and most devoted friend for around 13 years. Do you prefer mint, citrus, or cinnamon toothpaste? Mint. Are you one of those people who are always cold? No, I'm always hot. Have you done anything sneaky lately? No. Have you ever had feelings for someone and thought “This is the person I want to be with forever”? Yeah, twice. Do you keep notes, drawings or letters that people give you? Of course! Have you had a significant other that you never kissed? Well, boyfriends, but I wouldn't count the ones I haven't kissed as truly "significant other"s. Has anybody ever dated you only for your looks? I don't think so. Do you have any handshakes with anybody? Nah. What are you listening to? "Necessary Evil" by Motionless In White & Jonathan Davis. Would you take back your last boyfriend/girlfriend? Yeah. Who is your favorite band? How long have they been? Ozzy Osbourne. Since middle school. Who is your favorite author? I don't have a fave. Do you like cheesecake? BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH- How did you meet the last person you kissed? YouTube, back when it had more social aspects. Do you wake up cranky? Not usually, no. I'm actually in my best mood in the morning. Have you ever met your favorite band/singer? No, but holy fuck would that be awesome. I want to thank him for his music so badly. Do you have a good relationship with your parent(s)? Yeah. Has the last person you kissed ever been to your house? My old house, yes, but not this one. Do chickens have feelings? Yes. Have you ever been to a spa? Yeah, even though I really wasn't interested. I just went with Colleen because she invited me. I appreciated her wanting to hang out and include me of course, so I was happy to go, but it's not something I'd do of my own volition. The last time you were in the fridge, what were you looking for? The lemonade. Favorite South Park character? I don't have one, given I'm not interested in the show. How often do you have to shave? When/where I shave grows back FAST, so frequently. Ever go ghost hunting? No but omg I'd love to. Someone date me just to go do this together one night lmao. Do you have any family in the military? No. Can you talk to your mother about most things? I know I CAN talk to her about absolutely everything, but I don't always. Would you ever homeschool your children? If they wanted it and it'd be beneficial to their health and educational success, then yes. Are you afraid of change? Oh boy, am I. Who’s your favourite character from one of your favourite books? I'll go with The Outsiders, in which case I remember it was Dally.

Netflix’s Hollywood (2020) Review
Tumblr media
It may be set in the same day and age as Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it’s nothing alike. This is a different kind of Hollywood...
Plot: In post-World War II Hollywood, aspiring actors and filmmakers will do almost anything to make their showbiz dreams come true.
The racism was indeed a serious issue back in the Golden era of Hollywood, with not just people of colour being mistreated and disregarded. Recently I’ve been re-watching Bruce Lee films and the guy is such a talent, yet it took him a long while to get properly recognised in Hollywood. Yes, he was helping out in stunt-work and was training actors to be able to perform certain fight sequences, but it took him a lot of time and work to become beloved and popular by himself that Hollywood studio Warner Bros. had no choice but to finally allow him to make his own picture with a decent budget, and that was 1973′s Enter the Dragon, which unfortunately was his final completed film before his untimely passing, but even so, after such a long fight against the discriminating and racist nature of the film industry, he actually managed to achieve his dream. No wonder that in 2004 Enter the Dragon was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for its cultural significance. Again, that’s why I was upset with how Quentin Tarantino presented Bruce Lee as a narcissistic a-hole in last year’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as its such mistreatment and disrespect to an icon that helped progress and shape Hollywood in a better direction. Now, Netflix’s new series, conveniently titled Hollywood, is also about the Golden Age of Hollywood where non-white people had no rights or proper opportunities to get themselves out there, due to the expectations of the audience and fear of the likes of the Ku Klux Klan bringing their terror regimes, and the series presents an alternate time-line where these group of individuals succeed in making a movie that at that time would have been impossible to make. So, is the series as good as its potential-filled premise?
The series is brought to us by Ryan Murphy who most will know from his work on TV shows Glee and American Horror Story, and whilst I myself am not that well acquainted with those, I have seen his last year’s Netflix show The Politician, which I enjoyed for its blend of the campy whimsy intertwined with the political reality of the United States, and am very much looking forward to its next season, whenever that may be. With Hollywood, Murphy tries to take the present and put in the past, by seeing how today’s inspirational movements would have worked back then. He brings his distinct slick, sensational style to the Golden Age of showbiz. Bawdy and transgressive, it starts with a flair and energy that’s hard to look away from, tremendously watchable from minute one. And there is a lot going on in these 7 episodes, one can even say too much. Here’s the thing, Hollywood, tries to correct, well, Hollywood, by rewriting the well-worn dream big story, but one starring people who weren’t allowed to be a part of it, and one where they win. It’s also about the idea of a ‘Dreamland’, where big-name stars had hookups arranged by fixers that conducted business out of a gas station front and secretly gay and bisexual actors and producers threw exclusive parties where they could be secrets no longer. Hollywood is shown for its ugliness - the homophobia, racism, and sexism that shut out marginalised talent for decades. Thus there are lots of characters and plot-lines in this series, and because of all the stuff going on, the entire thing does come of a bit all over-the-place. In fact, the show doesn’t really find it’s proper footing until episode four, where our characters finally come together to make this fictional film called Meg, and when this kicks off, then the show does arise to the occasion and becomes humongously enjoyable and interesting to watch.
There’s a lot to truly enjoy in this series. From the immaculate production design to some truly juicy pieces of dialogue, which is good, since the series is about making a movie and every movie should have juicy dialogue! Also, this thing is really well cast, with a mix of newcomers and stars that you might have seen in other films/shows previously. Whether its Jim Parsons like you’ve never seen him before, being impressively nasty and slimy as a Harvey Weinstein-type of that era, or Samara Weaving continuing her foray by dashing us on the screen with her glamour and talent (though I should point out she was heavily under-used), or Dylan McDermott bringing his usual cool voguish persona however also exemplifying some surprising emotional levels, or Jeremy Pope bringing dramatic gravitas to every scene that he is in, or Joe Mantello as a studio producer with more to him than meets the eye.....I can go on. There isn’t a weak link in the cast, everyone is bringing their A-game and some even deliver career-best performances! Because of the cast, you fall for these characters so much that you truly do want to see them all succeed, so when the final episode, appropriately titled Hollywood Ending, arrives, even though its overly glossy by being just too good to be true (and may even present this thing as a bit of a puff piece), typical to an actual Hollywood ending, it feels garnered.
Hollywood at times takes on a bit more than it can chew, and it can come off overly preachy, even for its own good, but there is a lot to enjoy in this thing. I would say, I was surprised by the amount of sex/nude scenes and would have preferred less, but that’s a personal gripe more than anything. That being said, I get why it was done, as it was made to be uncomfortable to underline the darker side of show business. Then again, for all of its attempts at being dark, Hollywood also lacks conflict. All the problems that the characters face are dealt with ease in a matter of minutes. For example, at the end of one of the episodes we are left at a cliffhanger when the entire Meg film-tape is burned by a bunch of stereotypically-evil lawyers. However, in the opening minutes of the following episode its revealed that someone secretly made another copy of that film-tape beforehand, so that little tiny problem comes and goes as if it was nothing. That goes for the show as a whole. There are a lot of barriers that our characters come across, but they jump over them with but a scratch if that and thus diminish any kind of threat, stake or element of urgency. That being said, I really enjoyed Hollywood, and though it is not perfect, it’s definitely the best thing Netflix has released so far this year!
Overall score: 7/10

so here’s a list of music moments I would have liked to have seen in supernatural:
Elmer Bernstein’s theme to The Hallelujah Trail should have been played during Dean’s just...absolute finest moment, whatever that may have been.  Maybe it was something we never saw, but it definitely would have happened close to the end of the show’s run.  Not only is it the theme to an old cowboy movie (and we all know Dean loves cowboys and westerns) scored by one of Hollywood’s best composers, it’s got such a fun grandeur to it that I think Dean embodies in his best moments.  Just imagine him contemplating whatever impulsive, batshit thing he’s about to do for all of half a second, he stands, puts on his cowboy hat, gets in his trusty steed, and goes off to kill the bad guys like the Last Great American Cowboy he is.
“Milky White Way” is a song off of one of Elvis’s gospel albums, and it’s just so Sam.  It is simple, clean, beautiful faith that dreams of one day going back to Heaven, back to you maker, back to your mother.  Imagine Sam sneaking out on a Sunday morning and walking into a church service while this plays and he seeks out comfort in his faith, in prayer, in such a rockabilly, Nashville way.  (Alternate take would have worked beautifully, as well.)
Mary should have killed some monsters and been seen driving cross-country to The Lemonheads’ cover of “Mrs. Robinson.”  That would have been so badass.  Here’s to you, Mrs. Winchester.
“Tomorrow” from Annie is a Jack song.  It might seem like a weird choice, especially since I’m not a huge fan of the play in general, but hear me out: Jack, awake in the middle of the night, scared of what’s to come, unsure of what’s next, a mess after another nightmare, and he bumps into Cas as he takes his nightly walkabout around the bunker.  Cas does what he can to assure him even though he himself is scared, and they go outside to watch the sunrise, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder.  They’re both uncertain, but they have each other, and as the sun rises and the darkness of the screen silhouettes as if they have a bright spotlight on them, the song reaches its swelling climax before the spotlight goes out and they cut to the credits.
Rowena’s theme song is Bowie’s “Queen Bitch.”  Period, full stop.
Every snippet we get of Cas driving around, there’s something different playing on the radio, not just sermons.  He listens to a lot of hymns and pop music.
In an early seasons episode, season 1 or 2, Sam and Dean are undercover at a college toga party (complete with togas and olive wreaths) and get roped into “Shout” a la Animal House.  One of them is dancing, the other one is getting the kill during the song sequence.
Macca’s “Dear Boy” plays the first time Sam loses Eileen.  But in a version of the ending where we get to see the two of them reunite after Dean’s death and they decide they want to spend the rest of their lives together, it’s George Harrison’s “What is Life” that plays in a montage of them coming together.  It’s funny, because Sam doesn’t know now what his life would be life without Eileen, just like he never used to know what it would be like without Dean and Cas and Jack.
“Everybody’s Gotta Live” is a very first apocalypse-era song.  Just the two of them, Sam and Dean, absolutely miserable after another thwarted attempt to stop fate in its tracks intercut with Castiel’s search for God.  All of it fruitless.
Why do I want to see Cas and Meg searching for each other in a busy club while “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” plays?  I just do.  Who even knows why they’re there, but they are.  Quick cuts between the two of them, a confident Meg and slightly nervous Cas, surrounded by smoke and bathed in dark, colorful light until they bump into each other and wordlessly, breathlessly kiss, Meg tearing off his trench coat and suit jacket just to get that much closer to him.
When Cas gets swallowed by the Empty, “Video Killed the Radio Star” plays.  (Video = the Empty, Cas = the Radio Star.  Get it?)  But like, the part starting at about the 2-minute mark where the guitars are just...woah.
Sam and Dean are riding along in Garth’s car on a hunt, late season 7 or sometime in season 8, and Dean reaches for the radio.  Garth, though, smiles and holds up a hand.  “Allow me,” he says, and MF Doom’s “Vinca Rosea” begins to play.  They emerge from the car in slow motion under a bright moon, and the footage speeds up as they hunt down the baddie.  It is the most badass Garth has ever looked and will ever look.
Montage of Standford!Sam set to “Campus” because DUH.
John is flashing back to his Vietnam days in, well, a flashback.  He’s completely sober as he tells Sam and Dean about ‘Nam, about the horrors inflicted by humans and ends the story by telling them “And that’s why I know how to make a bed with sheets so tight I can bounce a quarter off it.”   “Fortunate Son”, of course, plays.  Young Sam and Dean just kinda shrug at each other and say “got it, Dad.  Jungle scary.”  John rolls his eyes.
“Heaven On Their Minds” and season 6 Cas.  Tell me it doesn’t work.
They want Jensen to sing so much?  Dean apparently likes Fiddler On the Roof?  Alright, then he can sing “If I Were A Rich Man” in a weird, daydream-esque sequence in an episode where the case is one that forces a serious exploration of class and the brothers’ status on the fringes of society.  A window into Dean’s own desire to be secure.
Jack finally gets to pick the music on the drive home, and guess what?  He’s picked “The Rainbow Connection.”  It just makes him so happy, and he smiles the whole time.  Four bloodied and beaten men driving along in the Impala, and Cas watches on with fond bewilderment as the other three sing along.  (Sam and Dean really resist at first, but when Sam cracks, Dean is quick to follow.)
Sam and Dean do something spectacularly stupid (think Malcolm in the Middle levels of stupid) to “I Should Be Allowed to Think” because the brilliantly stupid idea is Sam’s, and he likes TMBG.  But also, he’s thinking about the life he gave up - all that potential, wasted.  The worst hope of his generation for sure.  But Dean looks like he’s having a good time and it miraculously all works out, so it’s okay for now.
“Things Have Changed” needs to be in there somewhere, definitely in the later seasons, but I’m not quite sure where.  It just needs to be there.  And “Duquesne Whistle” in some little diner and “Like a Rolling Stone” (like, that whole ALBUM) and UGH DYLAN IS PERFECT FOR THIS SHOW.  All the Bob Dylan!
Come to think of it, all of All Things Must Pass, too.  Just scattered throughout the show.  So much about love and faith and even brotherhood in there.
Two brothers, driving home to Kansas, standing amongst the summer crop after the rain as the sun slowly sets with a couple of beers and “Over the Rainbow.”  Just glad to be home.

JUJUTSU KAISEN - May Be You Missed The Fun Facts About Jujutsu Kaisen
JUJUTSU KAISEN –
MAY BE YOU MISSED THE FUN FACTS ABOUT JUJUTSU KAISEN
Dear all Jujutsu Kaisen lover, are you confident to know all about this anime? If the answer is yes, let chek this list fun fact below.
1. End of the Story is already been planed.
As we know that each story has an conclusion a few maker think of the conclusion whereas working on anime and a few know the finishing some time recently working on in. In Jujutsu Kaisen the maker features a thought of its finishing and he know what would happen in the event that the story conclusion. But for the Complete story he needs to arranged, For that maker ought to know the finishing, So he can make story according to his Goal.
2.  Mangaka Gege Akutami Inspired by his brother for the Hero of His Manga.
He said that he is emphatically Propelled by his more seasoned brother who is his inverse. His brother is somebody who succeeds in everything he attempts: sports, ponders.. And he need to incorporate that kind of thing in fundamental character, which means the most character saw likeness toward his more seasoned brother.
3. A Major Villain Has Shades Of Thanos
Since Mahito was as it were fair presented within the anime, this segment will be as spoiler-free as conceivable – particularly in respects to what his extreme objective is. One thing that can be prodded, in spite of the fact that, is his depiction.
Even as an inherently evil being determined to wipe out humanity, Mahito can’t exactly be blamed because he’s just acting out his purpose. Akutami did this to avoid the cliché of evil villains being secretly good, instead aiming to make readers understand Mahito if not wholly despise and/or agree with him. Mahito can’t be proven wrong from a certain perspective, which Akutami compares to Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, especially because he couldn’t exactly hate the mad titan.
4. The Lore Was Inspired By Evangelion & American Horror Movies
When it comes to occult-based shonen manga, Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t precisely unique but it stands out much obliged to its mentally startling legend. Here, the powerful isn’t fair a portal to the the great beyond or capable zombie-ghosts for the heroes to defeat up, but a blend of Lovecraftian frightfulness, Freudian hulks, and humanity’s fear of passing made exacting. This shouldn’t be as well astounding when taking Akutami’s inspirations.
5. The Magic System Is A Mix Of Hunter X Hunter & World Trigger
Long story short, the magic system of Jujutsu Kaisen is centered on Cursed Energy and how Sorcerers weaponize it. The amount of energy a Sorcerer uses or summons is based on their feelings or lack thereof, making fights more emotional than expected. If that sounds familiar, that’s because Akutami based his power scale on famous scales before his.
Tumblr media
Primary impact stems from Yoshihiro Togashi’s Seeker X Seeker, where control levels are decided by a character’s utilize of Nen (fundamentally life vitality). Since this was all but idealized by Togashi, Akutami blended Nen with a few motivation frame Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger, where characters channel vitality through interesting weapons and capacities. The conclusion result is Jujutsu Kaisen’s utilize of Reviled Vitality. That said, a side-effect is that this framework can be as well complex for its possess good.
6. Deep meaning of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Long story brief, the enchantment framework of Jujutsu Kaisen is centered on Reviled Vitality and how Magicians weaponize it. The sum of vitality a Magician employments or summons is based on their sentiments or need thereof, making battles more enthusiastic than anticipated. In case that sounds recognizable, that’s since Akutami based his control scale on popular scales some time recently his.
Primary influence stems from Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter X Hunter, where power levels are determined by a character’s use of Nen (basically life energy). Since this was all but perfected by Togashi, Akutami mixed Nen with some inspiration form Daisuke Ashihara’s World Trigger, where characters channel energy through unique weapons and abilities. The end result is Jujutsu Kaisen’s use of Cursed Energy. That said, a side-effect is that this system can be too complex for its own good.
  7. What Gege Akutami do in his free time.
Usually he go to the movie, In his interview he said that he loved the movie Whiplash from producer Damien Chazelle. He went to see it in the theater and found it very good.
Whereas he work, he more often than not have motion pictures from Netflix or Amazon playing within the foundation. He rally adore American TV appears like Dr. House who doesn’t go simple on the most characters.
He utilized to studied a parcel of manga in tall school and college but since he begun Jujutsu Kaisen He haven’t been able to spend much time on perusing as some time recently. Right presently, He attempt to studied unused stuff as frequently as he can to improve his considerations and Ideas.
  8. Gege Akutami Has Many Notable Artistic Inspirations
While classically trained in art school, Akutami looked to his mangaka predecessors for artistic inspiration. His clearest influences are fellow Shonen Jump creators, namely Yusuke Murata (the artist of Eyeshield 21 and One-Punch Man), Kubo Tite (Bleach), Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), and Togashi.
The last mentioned makes a parcel of sense, particularly since Akutami went out of his way to imitate Togashi’s fashion and there are numerous parallels between Yu Yu Hakusho and Jujutsu Kaisen. On the foremost surface of levels, both stories star typical tall school boys who gotten to be the center of clashes between the living and extraordinary domains when they unwittingly ended up the linchpins.
  9. The Series Is About The Thin Line Between Good & Evil
If it wasn’t obvious yet, Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t going to be a flat shonen action story about a good buy beating up a bad guy. Rather, it’s about the morally grey no man’s land found between the forces of good and evil.
Tumblr media
When asked what his message was, Akutami reflected that there are no clean-cut heroes and scalawags. In his words, humankind can be a “scourge” so when a lowlife needs to murder mankind based on their possess sound morals and rationale, a few perusers unavoidably side with them. That’s not to say Akutami is entirely skeptical as much as he accepts in people’s potential to be great and fiendish. In the event that no one is simply right or off-base, no one knows the outright ethical truth, meaning everybody has got to discover it in their possess way.
Conclusionly, many fun facts that appear that even many fan do not know. Due to this reasons, Jujutsu Kaisen be more attractive. If you are Jujutsu Kaisen fan, do you know all the facts? And may be you miss this amazing merch about Jujutsu Kaisen HERE. Let discover what you miss out and never miss it again.

Counting Down The 10 Most Shocking Moments From My Favorite TV Shows
So I just finished Jane the Virgin and it inspired me to make a list of moments in television that had me fucking SHOOK. Maybe some other things happened in the show that were just as crazy but these are the moments that affected me personally. This list was so spontaneous but it might be my favorite one cause it was a nice trip down memory lane. Any who, here are the moments that have fucked me up along the years!
WARNING: LOTS AND LOTS OF SPOILERS!!!
10. Gossip Girl: The Dark Prince
Tumblr media
Let’s be clear Gossip Girl stopped being the show it was by season 4 by adding insane story lines but one that was realistic was Queen B marrying a real life prince! Although there are some minor hiccups Blair finally has the dream wedding she always wanted. Unfortunately everything comes crashing down when Louis basically tells her that she means nothing to him and the marriage is now just for show. This SHOOK me cause Louis was such a good guy until that exact moment. Ugh the moment he whispered those vile words to Blair her heart dropped and so did mine.
9. Elite: So who’s actually dead?
Tumblr media
From the beginning it was clear that one of the promiscuous teens of Elite was going to die it’s just not who you’d expect! In the first episode you find out that it’s none other than Marina! She was such a big part in the first episode I didn’t think her character would be the one to kick the bucket. Yes I am aware that the real mystery of the show is who’s the murderer but Marina being dead threw me for a loop.
8. On My Block: The Quinceañera from Hell.
Tumblr media
On My Block is supposed to be funny and it was until the last fucking episode of season one. Ruby decides to throw his crush Olivia a Quinceañera and everything goes smoothly, she even gets to face time her parents that got deported, until Cesar’s past comes to crash the party. Let me explain. Cesar finally joined his brother’s gang and had the job of executing Latrelle who’s from an opposing gang. Cesar is too sweet for his own good and lets him live. Unfortunately Latrelle shows up to Olivia’s Quinceañera, uninvited, and fires at Cesar but hits Ruby and Olivia in the process. In the end of the episode two ambulances are on their way to the hospital and ones lights go off indicating one of them has died. At the beginning of season two we finally find out that Olivia has passed which is sad and like talk about the worst birthday party ever!
7. Pretty Little Liars: Boo!
Tumblr media
There were literally 100 different A’s on this god forsaken show but the final A reveal was definitely the best. Spencer and Ezra have been kidnapped by A in a weird underground whatever thing and Spencer wakes up to her reflection only it’s not her reflection ITS HER TWIN. The elite PLL fans like myself always had theories of Spencer having a twin but when it actually happened I couldn’t believe my eyes. When Alex puts her hand down and says “boo!”... chills literal fucking chills.
6. Vampire Diaries: Dead girls walking.
Tumblr media
I could honestly make a list of the top ten shocking moments from the Vampire Diaries alone but this one had 15 year old me shaking in my Ugg boots. Jeremy’s first love Vicki died in season one, which was like WILD for 2009 let me tell you, and his other lover Anna also died. In the season two finale we see two shadows walking around following Jeremy in his house and they’re none other than Vicki and Anna looking straight at Jeremy and even speaking to him. At this point in the show people coming back from the dead was unheard of and this is why it beat everything else.
5. Dark: What REALLY happened that night?
Tumblr media
Ok so Dark has a lot of WTF moments like the entire show is a total mindfuck but in season 2 they answered a question and I was not prepared for the answer. Let’s back track realllll quick. Mikkel goes missing in the woods one night and no one finds him BUT Mikkel is alive and well he’s just in the year 1986! In the cave he went through there was a wormhole that took him to the past but the question was, how the fuck did he even end up there!? In the last episode of season two Jonas, Mikkel’s son (I know it’s confusing) goes back in time to stop Mikkel from disappearing to make everything right. Jonas talks to his dad, adult Mikkel, and Mikkel drops the bomb that Jonas was the one to lead him to the fucking wormhole in the first place!!! Everything about this show is absolutely insane but I mean this shit was INSANE. I literally could not believe what I was hearing and honestly neither could Jonas.
4. Jane the Virgin: Have a nice day bae!
Tumblr media
Michael begins his day going to take a test and he doesn’t come back. I am so team Michael just so y’all know so I loved the flashbacks of the fair with Jane this episode. What I DIDN’T like was the end of this episode. When Michael “died” I dead ass did not watch the rest of season 3 until it was streaming on Netflix. I sobbed so bad and then at the end of the episode when Jane gets the phone call that Michaels “dead” WOW that shit HURT. Thankfully I decided to keep watching the show cause at the season 4 finale Michael is alive and well but has a little amnesia. I literally will never forgive the writers for ripping my heart out and stomping on it.
3. American Horror Story: Running in circles.
Tumblr media
Violet tried to kill herself and Tate saves her by making her throw up except, she didn’t actually survive. Violet is depressed and stays home and it’s not until she tries to leave the house do you realize she’s actually been dead for a couple episodes. Its heartbreaking cause she’ll be stuck in that house forever but the moment you see her dead corpse was absolutely disgusting and heartbreaking at the same time.
2. Skins: Where’s Cook’s main hoe?
Tumblr media
When Skins came back for a 7th season wrapping up the lives of Effy, Cassie, and Cook I thought we were gonna get some closure but what I got from Cook’s episodes was very unexpected. There’s honestly a lot going on in Skins Rise but Cook’s second episode has him facing off his psychotic boss Louie. Let me give a little backstory. Cook deals drugs for Louie but Louie made Cook drive his girlfriend Charlie around. Cook being Cook fucks Charlie while simultaneously cheating on his own girlfriend Emma which makes it super awkward when the three of them runaway together to get away from a psychotic Louie. Before Cook absolutely beats the shit out of Louie he’s in the woods looking for Emma and he fucking finds her in a clearing HANGING on a tree!!! Like WHAT THE FUCK!!! Skins has never been THAT brutal and I honestly think it was the most jaw dropping moment that ever happened on the show. God I love Skins but I did NOT love that death like can my baby Cook just be happy!?!
1. Degrassi: The Next Generation: A night to forget.
Tumblr media
I was 13 the first time I got my heart broken, the perpetrator, Degrassi: The Next Generation. I was OBSESSED with this show I watched it from the very beginning. JT was my literal MAN like I loved him so much and when they CRUELLY killed him off I legit didn’t want to go to school the following Monday. JT dying is number one because it was my first big TV death and I’ll never forget it along with Liberty’s blood curdling screams.

Beltane Films
It’s a bit shit we can’t go frolic with the fae in the fields this Beltane and your one allocated government walk a day isn’t exactly the same as sitting, saturated by the sun all day on the Heath getting melted and eating strawberries. So I’ve made a list of my favourite films to help magically transform our inside lives into one that suitably reflects the mood of a fertility and love festival. Freya forbid it rains on friday but if it does dampen our witchy festivities at least we can get cosy and escape into nature through our imagination.
1. Practical Magic (1998); 90s dreamy scene scape, botanical witches, cute vintage dresses, midnight margaritas, chocolate cake for breakfast and a true love story, is there anything more worth watching on the Witches valentines? It ends on Samhain it’s a perfect witchy Beltane extravaganza- I mean that greenhouse tho
https://ww2.123movie.cc/movies/practical-magic/
Tumblr media
2. The Love Witch (2016)
Beltane is about LOVE and WITCHES duh. There’s a Beltane ritual, the visuals are everything I want and need, it’s a smart, aesthetically appealing deep dive into the subversion of the male gaze. Anna Biller made all the costumes (!!) herself, she wrote, directed, produced it and personally I believe it to be one of the best horror flicks to have emerged in the past decade. Reminisce on all those terrible, tragic and non-consentual love spells I know you cast long long ago and indulge in some glamourous murder.

Tumblr media
3. Tuck Everlasting (2002)
A film about a family that lives forever after drinking some magical spring water in the woods? Very Beltane. It has that 00s dreamy sheen, edwardian costume, a love story, a coming of age story and it’s all set in New England right at the end of the turn of the last century. In the original story our protagonist Winnie Foster was 10 years old and it was originally written as a children’s book which honestly is a bit creepy. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful story about finding yourself, acknowledging the wheel of time and appreciating life death life cycles. Also whatshername from Gilmore Girls is in it. Cute. Perfect for a spring festival. There’s also a musical that flopped massively but some of the songs are worth a lil listen.

Tumblr media
3. FairyTale: A True Story (1997)
Tumblr media
It’s Beltane we must have fairies! I was obsessed with this film as a child, particularly with the teeny tiny furniture they make for the fairy dolls house. I also spent a lot of time trying to untie myself from ropes like Houdini. This is the fictional retelling of the true story of the Cottingley girls who were caught up in the popular mysticism craze in the early 1900s and accidentally became celebrities after photographing the ‘fairies’ at the bottom of the garden. The story was a national sensation but after further investigation it was discovered that the photos had in fact been faked. No shit. The truly shocking thing is that the Cottingley girls seem to have escaped unharmed by the fae. It’s a great heartwarming film and features an interesting depiction of the British obsession with fairies and mysticism following rapid industrialisation. It also celebrates the beauty of Yorkshire and the British countryside in a very understated manner and honestly it might have been this film that launched my deep desire to run away into some woods and never look back.

4. The Last Leprechaun (1998)
Ok this one is a bit mad. Another childhood favourite of mine, this film was given to me on a tape by my Scorpio Sun Gemini Moon Scottish grandad and within that context this film makes a lot of sense to me. It’s set in Ireland, this American family move into this huge house and discover the land is populated by the fae, quel surprise. There are banshees, there are fairies in a mine, there’s leprechauns looking for gold, it’s batshit and nowhere near as visually appealing as the films listed above but it’s a really fun watch. A good reminder at this time of year- don’t mess with the little people.

5. Globe Theatre productions/ Online Theatre
Tumblr media
This time of year would normally herald the start of outdoor concerts, festivals, garden parties and theatre out in the open air. Nothing compares to the magic of experiencing theatre outdoors, combining my two favourite lasting loves, theatre and nature in one. Naturally I’m devastated to be missing an entire season of outdoor theatre but thankfully the Globe has made loads of productions available online for FREE. Unfortunately, one of my favourite plays to watch at this time of year, As You Like It, is not part of the Globe’s free offerings https://globeplayer.tv/videos/as-you-like-it but if you’re looking for love and romance set in a forest with a good smattering of witty repartee and cross dressing look no further. Shakespeare’s birth and death day just passed us by (23rd) and if you haven’t yet celebrated this Taurean by indulging in a bit o cultchah I’m gently suggesting that you’d enjoy it. Equally, I’d recommend Emma Rice’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream from the Globe, it’s literally the best production I’ve ever seen and at this point I’ve likely seen over 20 different productions of Dream so take me up on it. The cabaret artist Meow Meow plays Titania and I can’t think of anyone playing the Fairy Queen better.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p08b015k/culture-in-quarantine-shakespeare-a-midsummer-nights-dream
FREE ON BBC IPLAYER!!!
The customs in the play are somewhat a mixture of Beltane and Litha practices so tbh it’s good sabbat to sabbat. I guess you could also watch the Tempest if you really wanted but I kind of hate it ngl.
Angela Carter’s ‘Wise Children’, dir. Emma Rice
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0892kf6/wise-children
Tumblr media
Free on BBC iPlayer, I was lucky enough to see this show in person while it was at the Old Vic and yes, I’m a massive Emma Rice fan and if you watch it you’ll understand why. The show has nothing to do with the fae or Beltane but it is from modern myth maker Angela Carter (who wrote the Bloody Chamber) so there’s lots of folklore and mythical elements woven in. It’s just a bloody good time, it’s colourful, queer and musical whilst unconventionally exploring family trauma.
A Winter’s Tale, Royal Ballet
The Royal Opera House/Royal Ballet is screening their production of A Winter’s Tale on Friday at 7pm, it’s very magical, it’ll be available for a week, wahey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-byR-6p-qA
6. Anne with an E: Season 3, Episode 5, Netflix
https://www.netflix.com/watch/81025449?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C4%2Cf5cee1ae-463c-468c-90ac-6ccae34b01ad-31458487%2C%2C
I wasn’t too keen on Anne of Green Gables before Netflix made it dark and hashtag real. I particularly love this episode which features a Beltane ritual at the end, I know I wish I could meet you all round a bonfire waving ribbon wands in my nightgown. The last season in particular really solidifies Anne as symbolic of wild woman in tune with nature and the rhythms of her own soul and I could probably deep dive into this ad infinitum.
Skip to 40:14 minutes if you wish to only see the ritual.
Tumblr media
7. Honorable mentions:
Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) because fairies
https://www4.123movies.gr/movie/pans-labyrinth-2006/
Midsommar (2019) because although I know this film is really more for Litha, they have a Maypole so I think we can make it work
Far from the Madding Crowd ( 2015) Carey mulligan and countryside and terrible life decisions, the soundtrack is also very soothing on its own. You can watch it free (legally, shocker) on the BBC website.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfilms/film/far_from_the_madding_crowd
Tess of the D’urbervilles (2008) the TV series!! with Gemma Arteton (?) as Tess; pastoral life, nature pagan goddess allusions and a finale at Stonehenge very Beltane. Once you get past all the religion stuff Hardy’s aight.

Happy Beltane Witches!!!

846.
1. have you ever worn bright red lipstick? >> I don’t think so. Pretty sure I wouldn’t be fond of how it looked on me.
2. do you smoke the ganj? >> I don’t. I’m in the “weed makes me incredibly paranoid and anxious, and enough of it will phase me completely out of consensus reality” camp, unfortunately.
3. do you eat a lot? >> Nah. Like, sometimes I feel like I do, but then I remember that compared to the typical American portion sizes, I eat like a bird. So I guess I eat the normal amount (since American portion sizes are in no way normal, lmao).
4. do you care much about your health? >> I care enough, I guess. I try to do more good (or neutral) for myself than ill, when I can. It balances out the fact that my badbrains are probably shaving years off my life with every passing week, lmao.
5. do you know who sid and nancy are? >> The uh... Sex Pistols guy or whatever, and his lady, right?
6. do you know who bonnie and clyde are? >> More or less.
7. who do you like better? >> I don’t care about either couple’s stories, as I’m sure is obvious from my vague answers.
8. do you listen to the misfits? >> I do! Love ‘em.
9. do you like punk music? if not, you should. >> I like some of it. Not the hardcore, really fast shouty song that’s over in a minute kind of punk music, though. Horror-punk like Misfits is probably my fave, and pop-punk like Green Day is good, and whatever it is the Distillers have got goin on is good too.
10. are you christian? >> Nope.
11. if so, have you ever read the entire bible? >> I’m not Christian but I have read at least 80% of the Bible. I mostly skipped the “here’s a list of like 200 laws” and “here’s an entire genealogy” bits.
12. are you a sucker for big, blue eyes? >> No.
13. are you generally attracted to more outgoing and loud people or quiet and mysterious people? >> Well, quiet and mysterious people I relate to, and outgoing and loud people provide a balance for my own self, so I like both for different reasons. I just spend less time around the outgoing people because 1) I don’t provide enough energy exchange for them so they get bored of me and 2) it’s not often that I have enough social energy to spare for them in the first place.
14. do you listen to that hardcore shit? >> Like, hardcore, the genre? No.
15. have you gotten a new computer since 2006? >> Of course. I got a new computer just this year.
16. have you ever cried because you couldn’t be with someone? >> I don’t know. No time in recent memory, that’s for sure.
17. do you plan on going to college? >> No.
18. could you ever see yourself going to those college parties, getting drunk, fucking some random person and getting an std? For fuck’s sake…I don’t think anyone sees themselves getting an std. <-- lmao for real...
19. do you even drink? >> I do.
20. what do you like most about the opposite sex? >> ---
21. don’t you hate it when things are amazing in other people’s lives and you’re stuck in a hole alone? >> I hate it when it feels like this, yes. It’s a fallacious train of thought, because what we see of others’ lives is usually just what they’re willing to show us, and people don’t really tend to share the awful bits of their lives. So of course other people’s lives look amazing when all you see is the amazing stuff. Also, depression makes everything in my life feel worse than it actually is, so... extra fallacy.
22. do you have problems with one - or both - of your parents? >> I have problems with all of my parents.
23. do you like cheez-its? >> No.
24. do you sleep a lot? >> No.
25. do you like drinking water? >> I don’t always like it, but I do drink it more than anything else. Most of my variation in beverages comes from either kombucha or sparkling water (so, also still water).
26. what is your view on the war going on right now? >> Well, before I answer... what year was this survey made...
27. do you like george w. bush? >> Ah, there’s the time frame.
28. who do you want to win the 2008 election in november; hillary clinton or barrack obama? >> And here we are in the 2020 election season, and all I can hope for is that somehow Trump gets voted out. I’m sick of his ass.
29. who do you think will win? >> At this point, I can’t even bother to speculate. I didn’t think Trump would win the first time, and yet here we are...
30. have you ever been to a funeral? >> Yeah.
31. can you play drums? >> No.
32. can you play guitar? >> Nope.
33. what’s your passion in life? >> I don’t have one of those.
34. do you like writing? >> I do.
35. are you doing/did you do good in school? >> ---
36. do you think moths are bad luck? >> I’ve never heard that one. I love moths :(
37. or do you not believe in supersitious stuff? >> I’m just not interested.
38. are you in love with anyone? >> No.
39. if you’re in love, do you wish you weren’t? if you’re not in love, do you wish you were? >> I’m not interested in being in love.
40. if you’re in love, do you care about what anyone has to say about them, if it’s only bad news? >> ---
41. when you date, do you care about what your best friend[s] or good friends think about them? >> ---
42. will you date someone that’s not your race? >> I’m married to someone that is not my ethnicity.
43. i hope you aren’t racist… are you? >> As if I or anyone would answer this with “fuck yeah, I’m racist, what are you gonna do about it?” Like. Get real.
44. have you ever made yourself throw up? >> Yeah.
45. have you ever purposely starved yourself? >> No.
46. do you think you exercise enough? >> I would never think I exercised enough. I would always assume that I’m not doing enough. Rationally, I guess the fact that I try to take brisk walks at least 3 times a week and do short reps of various exercises throughout the day is a lot better than doing nothing at all.
47. have you ever pierced something on your body, yourself? >> Yeah, I’ve done my ears a few times. All those holes are closed up now, though.
48. have you ever listened to the band lars frederiksen and the bastards? >> No.
49. if so, what do you think of them? >> ---
50. what do you often do on saturday nights, if you’re not out somewhere and/or with friends? >> I’m usually not out somewhere on Saturday night. I’m usually at home doing whatever.

Wheel of Time Amazon TV Series: Everything You Need to Know
https://ift.tt/30p6YSh
The Wheel of Time, the sprawling fantasy novel mythology by Robert Jordan, is heading to Amazon Prime as a series.
facebook
twitter
tumblr
One of the most popular fantasy franchises of the literary world, The Wheel of Time, is getting a live-action television adaptation. Originally authored by Robert Jordan, the 80 million-selling 1990-2013 book series depicts a sprawling mythology, amalgamating feudal and magical tropes with elements of Eastern mysticism. Indeed, the books bear philosophical influences from European and Asian culture, notably Buddhism and Hinduism, centered on the idea of time being cyclical in nature.
Amazon gave a series order to The Wheel of Time back in October 2018, setting the project as an hour-long series that will stream on Amazon Prime Video, as reported by Deadline and confirmed by an APV retweet. The move was the culmination of what had been a year-and-a-half process, going back to April 2017, when it was first reported that Sony Pictures Television was moving forward with the TV project.
The Wheel of Time Cast
Amazon continues to fill out the cast of its upcoming Wheel of Time series. This round of casting features four relatively new faces (at least to American audiences). Veteran Spanish actor Alvaro Morte will play Logain Ablar of the Black Tower. Hammed Animashaun (Black Mirror) will play Loial, an Ogier from Shangtai. Alexandre Willaume will be Thom Merrilin, a former bard. Johann Myers will portray the darkfiend Padan Fain.
Amazon recently released this footage featuring The Wheel of Time cast in a table read of the script, which also reveals the presence of Naana Agyei-Ampadu (GameFace), whose role is unknown at this time.
On September 10th, the cast and crew of #WOTonPrime got together to read the first episode of The Wheel Of Time. Production is now on its way and we are VERY excited to see this show come to life! #TwitterOfTime, this is for you. pic.twitter.com/FmWA4zeh2r

As for the rest of the cast...
Tumblr media
Daniel Henney was recently added to The Wheel of Time cast. He will play al’Lan Mandragoran, a.k.a. Lan, the stoic warder (essentially a protector,) of Moraine (Rosamund Pike). However, Lan happens to be the lone survivor of a royal bloodline, and is the uncrowned king of Malkier, a province that was overrun by forces of the Shadow. Henney's announced casting as Lan was accompanied by the following quote: "I swear to stand against the Shadow so long as iron is hard and stone abides - to defend the Malkieri while one drop of blood remains. I swear to avenge what cannot be defended."
Henney, an American actor, can be currently seen on CBS’s Criminal Minds, which he joined in 2015’s Season 10, and is also known as the voice of Tadashi in 2014 feature Big Hero 6 and its current animated series. Besides TV runs on Revolution, Hawaii Five-0 and Three Rivers, he appeared in the 2009 Fox-Marvel solo spinoff movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as Agent Zero, the character known in the comic book mythology as assassin Maverick.
The series recently revealed a quintet of main cast members. The show’s official social media also provides pertinent quoted descriptions for each of the characters, culminating with the message, "It was about them all." The cast members consist of the following (pictured directly below from the left):
Tumblr media
Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tidelands) as Egwene Al’Vere. – “It was about a woman who would not bend her back while she was beaten, and who shown with a light for all who watched.”
Josha Stradowski (Instinct, Spangas) as Rand Al’Thor. – “It was not about me. It’s never been about me.”
Marcus Rutherford (Obey, Shakespeare & Hathaway) as Perrin Aybara. – “It was about a man whose family was taken from him, but who stood tall in his sorrow and protected those he could.”
Zoë Robins (Power Rangers Ninja Steel, The Shannara Chronicles) as Nynaeve. – “It was about a woman who refused to believe that she could not help, could not heal those who had been harmed.”
Barney Harris (Clique, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) as Mat Cauthon. – “It was about a hero who insisted with every breath that he was anything but a hero.”
They will, of course, join the show’s June-announced headliner...

Rosamund Pike officially landed the lead role in The Wheel of Time as Moiraine. A member of an all-female secret society of magic users, called the Blue Ajah of the Aes Sedai, Moiraine embarks on a dangerous journey with five young people she comes to mentor, one of whom she believes could be the reincarnation of someone prophesized to either save or destroy humanity.
Pike, an Oscar-nominated actress for her role as Amy Dunne in 2014’s Gone Girl, is also known from 2005’s Pride & Prejudice and as a Bond villainess in 2002’s Die Another Day. She recently fielded a small screen starring run on SundanceTV comedy State of the Union, and appeared in films such as A Private War, 7 Days in Entebbe, Beirut, Hostiles and The Man with the Iron Heart. She’ll next be seen in the August-scheduled crime drama, The Informer, and, amongst other projects, will co-star as Marie Curie in the fact-based 2020 romance drama, Radioactive.
The Wheel of Time Director
Uta Briesewitz is set to direct the first two episodes of The Wheel of Time, reports Deadline. This should be great news for genre fans, seeing as the German director and cinematographer, Brieswitz, brings small screen experience from directorial runs on shows like Netflix’s Stranger Things (in the recent Season 3), HBO’s The Deuce and Westworld, AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, Starz’s Black Sails and Netflix-Marvel shows such as (the just cancelled) Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and The Defenders, as well as streaming giant offerings Orange is the New Black and the returning Altered Carbon. Plus, she’s fielded runs on Fox’s Lethal Weapon and The CW shows The 100 and Jane the Virgin. Indeed, with a peak television CV like that, The Wheel of Time should be in good hands for its launch.
The Wheel of Time series buck stops with Rafe Judkins, who assumes duties as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Judkins is no stranger to genre television, serving as a producer and writer on ABC’s Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix horror series, Hemlock Grove. He was also a story editor for NBC’s beloved geek-wish-fulfillment spy series, Chuck. Judkins will be joined by executive producers Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of Red Eagle and producers Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures. Additionally, the property’s authorial legacy is in place with Jordan’s widow, Harriet McDougal, onboard as a consulting producer.
As Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Event Series, Amazon Originals states:
“Developing and producing Robert Jordan’s beloved fourteen-books-series for TV is a big undertaking, and we don’t take it lightly. We believe that Rafe’s personal connection to the material and soulful writing will resonate with the book’s passionate fans.”
The Wheel of Time Release Date
The Wheel of Time has yet to announce a release date. However, a production timeframe was recently spotted in trade magazine Production Weekly, via fan site The Daily Trolloc. The excerpt claims that the series is set to begin rolling cameras in Prague, Czech Republic sometime in September 2019.
The Wheel of Time Details
The Wheel of Time TV series is moving along swiftly, with production having started on September 16, a bittersweet date, since it also marked the 12-year anniversary of author Robert Jordan's passing.

Of course, The Wheel of Time is a large-scale endeavor, since the novels of Robert Jordan (nom de plume of James O. Rigney Jr.), three of which were completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan passed away in 2007, build an intricate mythology governed by the titular seven-spoke Wheel of Time powered by an incorporeal celestial source of power. Like the Force in Star Wars, it is a binary power utilized by gifted people, here called “channelers.” The story is spread across epochs in the continuing battle against Shai’tan (or, the Dark One,) who, upon breaking free of imprisonment from the Creator, exerts influence on the malleable to lead the source toward evil.
Amazon's series order for The Wheel of Time arrives after several years of starts and stops, going back to 2000 when author Jordan was still alive. A pilot called Winter Dragon, starring Billy Zane and Max Ryan, aired on FXX on February 8, 2015 (at 1:30 a.m.) to no fanfare or fruition (it was essentially a move by Red Eagle to prevent the rights from expiring). However, McDougal herself made media ripples in April 2016 when she announced “exciting news” about the property; something that required the clearing of some legal issues before moving forward. After the resolution of said legal issues, McDougal speculated that The Wheel of Time would become a “cutting edge TV series.”
We’ll keep you updated on Amazon’s The Wheel of Time as things develop.

Stranger Things 3 - Full Season Review
Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror web television series created, written and directed by the Duffer Brothers and released exclusively on Netflix. The third season, titled Stranger Things 3, premiered on July 4 2019.
Tumblr media
Spoiler warning for seasons 1, 2 and 3 of Stranger Things.  Also, this review is extremely long. Don’t say I didn’t warn you...
It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.
What I Did Like:
Production Design The visual aesthetic of this season is unlike either of the previous seasons. The garish colours and abundance of neon lighting firmly cements the shows’ events in retro culture. This season also incorporates one of my favourite film-making tropes, juxtaposing the good and bad with extreme contrast (e.g. playing an upbeat song over harsh imagery).
Character beats are given the appropriate amount of significance What I mean by this is, that at several points throughout Stranger Things 3 expositional beats for several characters aren’t made into bigger events than necessary. Three examples of this include both Will and Robin being ‘revealed’ as gay and Will and Jane (Eleven) professing their love for each other.
Formatting and Storyline Progression This season follows four separate storylines that converge to three midway through the season. All of these storylines are weaved together in a way that you can tell which events are happening simultaneously and which aren’t. Though this format does present a slight issue, as the episodes progressed and more was happening I found it increasingly harder to know how much time had passed between scenes; this was most prevalent with Steve, Robin, Dustin and Erica in the underground bunker.
Dacre Montgomery’s Performance When Billy was introduced in Season 2, he was a mostly two-dimensional character with the slightest backstory with his abusive father and step-sister Max. In Stranger Things 3, Billy is the main protagonist and the primary host of The Mind Flayer and thus is involved in some particularly impressive scenes showing how he became the person he is and his love for Max. Dacre Montgomery did an amazing job this season, but I truly worry that the majority of fans will neglect that to either keep over-praising Millie Bobby Brown or obsessing over minor characters.
Progression of Existing Characters Stranger Things 3 spends a decent amount of the first few episodes further developing characters that otherwise weren’t in previous seasons, notably Max and Lucas. For the most part I appreciate this, but there is a negative aspect to it that I will explain further on.
The Hospital Fight In episode 7, Jonathan, Nancy and all the kids (minus Dustin) go to the hospital to continue investigating. What follows is a pretty good fight scene where the abilities of the ‘flayed’ are displayed and a smaller version of the The Mind Flayer is revealed. Though Stranger Things is no stranger to strobe lighting, the harshness of it in this scene was somewhat bothering.
What I Didn’t Like:
This isn’t the final season The endings of season’s 1 and 2 acted both as solid conclusions, but also left enough open so that they could continue the show and gave the audience a glimpse into the next season. The ending of Stranger Things 3 is simultaneously the best and worst ending of the entire show. It is the best because it perfectly wraps up every characters established storyline and with everyone moving into a new phase of their lives. But, with that being said, the mid-credits stinger that teases the next season left me with an unsettling feeling in my gut that the fourth, and potentially final, season will drag out a story that doesn’t need to continue.
Will’s Character Will Byers was my favourite character from the beginning of season 1 and Noah Schnapps’ performance in season 2 truly lived up to the expectations placed upon him due to his small presence in the first season. So why didn’t they do anything with him in Stranger Things 3? Will spends the first two episodes wanting to play D&D and spends the next six episodes doing nothing but touching the back of his neck and saying “he’s here”. The Duffer Brothers truly did Noah Schnapp, and the audience, dirty by neglecting one of the most talented actors in the cast.
The Overabundant Product Placement If you think the constant appearances of Eggo waffles were annoying in the first two seasons, you will hate the inappropriate amount of product placement in Stranger Things 3. My main issue is that it’s not subtle at all, and I understand that that’s the point, but in the first two seasons all the product placements are seamlessly incorporated so that they’re not as noticeable. The same can’t be said about Stranger Things 3 where they have a minute long debate about New Coke.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Acting Millie Bobby Brown was highly praised for her ‘outstanding’ performances in the first two seasons of Stranger Things. So much so that she received twenty-one nominations and nine awards for Stranger Things alone. This fact doesn’t sound as impressive when you add that all she did in the first two seasons was look like she was concentrating and utters a maximum of five hundred words across both seasons; which is a very small number given most humans say at least seven thousand in a day. Her characters developed speech skills means that in Stranger Things 3 she is given a larger role, the only issue being that her skills as an actress don’t live up to her reputation. I don’t mean to say that she is a bad actress, she just isn’t the ‘young superstar’ that her reputation implies.
General Thoughts:
Jane or Eleven? At the end of Stranger Things 2, Eleven’s name was legally changed to Jane Hopper. So why now, at least six months after the end of season 2, are her friends still calling her Eleven? I am aware this is a minor nit-pick, but why bother showing the audience that her name is now Jane Hopper if the characters aren’t going to use it?
The Flayed I was worried that the Flayed were going to be too similar to zombies, but I am extremely happy that they didn’t go down that path.
It is more censored than any previous season
Never-Ending Story I truly can’t decide whether I love or hate that they take minute out of the seasons climax to sing The Never-Ending Story…
Cary Ewels You can never go wrong with Cary Ewels portraying a corrupt leader.
Will’s Artistic Abilities  I truly appreciate that Joyce’s mention of Will’s drawing talents is something that has been incorporated and featured in every season.
Tumblr media
I’ll conclude this review by stating that, while I enjoyed seasons 1 and 2, the two year gap between releases did result in a slight loss of interest in the series on my part. I will also state that Stranger Things 2 is my favourite season out of the three, excluding episode 8, and I am still unsure whether season 3 ranks above or below season 1 in quality; though I do lean towards it ranking higher. With all this being said, Stranger Things 3 is a great season of television that I definately enjoyed watching.
