My friend Carrot and I once did a “trivia hunt” contest - looking for the weirdest, most obscure fun facts about the server and members as possible.

So these aren’t necessarily backstory facts, but here’s tons of Hermit fun facts I know. I can provide sources for like 99% of these if I try.

Below the cut because there is a LOT.

There’s an official Hermitcraft theme song

Jono, who makes music for some hermits (including about ALL of Grian’s timelapse music) is Ren’s brother

“Xisuma” is Music with an x instead of a c and an a at the end (Music -> Musix -> Amusix -> Xisuma)

X is ripped

X has dyspraxia

X and Joe are the only hermits to have part of season 1 and never gone inactive - they’ve never Not been hermits, ever.

We all know X counts his episodes by total instead of by season but he actually skipped Episode 404 because of Error 404 Webpage not found

Etho had a block made in his honour in an April Fool’s update called the Etho Slab

There’s a solid chance Etho has never paid for Minecraft ever (he seemingly has no cam account and got MC before it cost money)

Grian has a biology degree

Scar’s skin and Youtube profile picture is Indiana Jones. His PFP was made by ZloyXP, the Hermit Recap writer.

Scar’s an artist and not only owns multiple art books that he consults for ideas, not only draws all his builds beforehand, but is a really skilled oil painter.

Bdubs is also an artist and is stellar. 

Scar’s “default” build is a tree.

Scar’s IGN is GoodTIMEWithScar instead of GoodTIMESWithScar because of the 9-character limit in Minecraft gamertags. He says this is because his channel is multiple games = multiple good times but Minecraft is one game so it’s only one good time. His cam account - despite being only 8 characters where he could’ve had the s is “BadTimeWithScar” and was called “RocketRodRyan” until 2017 (Ryan being Scar’s real name).

Similarly, Grian’s cam account, TwoMuchGrian, was originally “The_Grifter”. This can be seen in earlier seasons.

Scar’s Mayoral skin was the mayor from the Power Puff Girls. Scar does not know what the power puff girls is.

Grian has anxiety & panic attacks and mentions it sometimes on his instagram.

There’s a fan term called The Grian Effect where hermits get spikes in their subcounts after collaborating with Grian.

There’s a several year old clip out there of Grian calling Jimmy a gorgeous and handsome man. Legend says he never complimented Jimmy ever again

In Last Life, Scar would be an evil little swindling scallywag and then edit those scenes out of his own videos. You’d only know the screwed up things he was doing if you watched other peoples’ videos. This is my favorite fact.

As mentioned, Xisuma started YouTube because he was inspired by Etho. He also looked up to Doc.

Season 8 was canonically a simulation.

Mumbo’s got a dog named Kubo. The Daily Mail newspaper used a photo of Kubo, among other dogs from Google, in an article talking about brushing dogs.. without his permission.

Ren is left-handed (my friend Carrot says that Mumbo, Jevin, and Imp are all left-handed as well, and Keralis “plays left-handed but I don’t know if he actually is”. I can’t confirm this.)

Bdubs dyed his hair blue once.

“BdoubleO” is a play on his last name (Booko). He worked as a contractor at Booko Brothers Inc. before doing YouTube full time.

Mumbo is allergic to oranges

Mumbo’s real name is Oliver “Oli” BROTHERHOOD. What a last name. In my mind the real reason he didn’t come back in time for the crossover is because having two Olis would be too confusing. He had a build called the Olicopter once as well. Similarly, Grian’s last name is Batchelor. This is ironic, because Grian is married.

Mumbo and Doc are tied for tallest hermits, both 6′5. Grian is tied for shortest with Cleo, both 5′6. Also, allegedly Scar is 6′0 standing??

James Charles is a fan of Mumbo. Pewdiepie once plugged Mumbo for Mayor and it got spammed hard and became like a genuine problem for a bit. 

iirc Scar lives in fucking WASHINGTON

At the same time that Scar had to take a short hiatus because of his health, Jellie became sick and almost died. They recovered at the same time, because they are the real soulmates

All weird hats and items (like Scar’s ears, hardhat, and top hat, or Zedaph’s trophies) in Hermitcraft are actually carved pumpkins.

Scar HATES snakes.

He has two older brothers and we see at least one in an IRL Minecon video.

Famous Birthdays thinks Scar is 40. Nobody knows his real age, but he laughed at this.

Grian’s original name was “Gria”. It was taken on Minecraft, so he added an N. Apparently he still uses Gria when Grian is taken (according to Carrot). 

Also, Grian never actually used the name Xelqua. Nobody’s ever called him Xelqua. It was a placeholder name when he made his YouTube account.

Grian’s name on YouTube got changed to “Sun” for like a day and then changed back. Nobody knows why. Grian does mean sun in some languages, to be fair.

Grian’s cat Maui was a contestant in the Minecraft Cat Poll that Jellie won.

Grian’s favorite color is brown (source: Carrot. Carrot did say that he added on that he doesn’t like picking a favorite because someone will get peeved)

Scar’s is orange, Xisuma’s is “blorange” (blue and orange). Zedaph’s is red, Etho’s is green. Impulse’s is purple. Doc’s is green. Beef’s is blue.

People originally started drawing Zedaph more prominently with sheep features because people kept confusing blonde haired Zed with blonde haired Grian when G first joined.

Tango likes to play hockey and taught his wife how to play as well.

Tango and his wife have been married for 18 years. They met on an online dating website made in 2000 called Eharmony.

Joe had a DND series on YouTube, as well as one about writing Hermitcraft fanfiction. The TSD in his YouTube handle is a reference to an old DND group he was in, Team Snow Day.

Xisuma made VanillaTweaks (which is the modpack the server uses, including features like Silenced nametags, miniblocks, player and mob heads, singleplayer sleep, etc). It’s actually avaliable to the public and you can customize it with features both included in and not included in HC.

Cleo used to write Final Fantasy fanfiction.

Scar’s first ~500 videos were recorded on a Macbook.

Joe’s favorite book is Hitchhiker’s Guide. Also, he owns two pillows with his face on them.

Etho and Cub have the same birthday. So do Grian and Fwhip.

If Bdubs could have any superpower, he’d want Mind Control.

On Mindcrack, Bdubs had the nickname Boo (b double o)

False was Sheriff of hermitcraft once and then got jailed for corruption.

Apparently Etho has the nickname “Ladders” because he always had them on him and preferred them to stairs.

Ren has a degree in journalism and BA in English Literature and can knit.

Bdubs’ red headband in some skins is the HEX code b00100. this is a reference to himself.

Joe has a degree in US History

Doc killed Dinnerbone in UHC and then Dinnerbone took his arm to nerf him and there was a bug fix mentioned in a snapshot that said “Remove ‘docm77’ mob as it is not working as intended”. This is the origin of Doc’s cyborg arm.

Pungence (a former hermit and Bdubs’ brother) originally went by “AssyrianAssassin”. His Minecraft skin matches Bdubs’ original.

Speaking of, Bdubs’ face was not always :D. It used to be :|, then Etho wished for him to get bigger eyes and a bigger smile. The world has never been the same.

Impulse used to have an eyebrow piercing

Hypno named Hermitcraft

Cub ran into Etho in real life at random once, in a store in Canada. He only recognized that it was Etho by his voice.

The Minecraft part of the Stanley Parable was inspired by Hermitcraft.

Tango technically joined Hermitcraft in Season 2.. because Mumbo couldn’t figure out his iron farm design and asked for him to be whitelisted just to help him. He was blacklisted right after.

Etho used to work in a family owned greenhouse business.

Season 1 had to be reset two separate times.

At some point (as in, YEARS AGO) Grian said his favorite pokemon was Dewgong.

Before HC, Scar, Cub, Wels, Ren, Iskall, Python, and Stress were on a server called Kingdomcraft.

ok so since it's just occurred to me that the fandom is constantly growing and changing and learning, there's some bits of hermit backstory that I know that others might not. hermitfacts coming up:

the server was built as an equal mix of builders and redstoners (and then Joe Hills was added as a WILDCARD to shake things up)

season two only happened because Joe Hills ran a coup

tango is the father of the iron farm, before 1.14 made iron farms easy, your best bet was to ask tango. tango also modded villagers before the villager update

etho invented the etho hopper clock, revolutionised the minecraft let's play, and inspired a lot of the server to play/film

impulse is the guy behind the item sorter, and he is a master of villager manipulation, with his villager breeder being in massive use

bdubs' brother, pungence, joined hermitcraft before he did and played for season one

iskall is behind the vault hunters mod and it's really cool and you should check it out

the way cub built concorp inspired Mojang to update the way villagers work

doc is friends with the Mojang game Devs (even if they took his arm)

Hypno runs the hermitcraft website, even when he's not active on the server

Welsknight came in to defend the others in a rap battle when he was away from the server

Stress runs a fitness channel alongside her Minecraft channel and being a parent

Joe hills used to have a webcomic and do drawing streams - he saw twitch be born, and will likely see twitch die

Scar got his start in call of duty

“fuck! goddammit,” denki grumbled, shaking out his wrist as he had just failed the six star version of the intro of blend-s on osu. he had gotten rather addicted to the circle clicking game. this further resulted in denki staying up late on school nights, despite kirishima’s warnings of him potentially falling asleep in class the next day. it was fine, he could always borrow notes from you or jirou anyways!

as he went to restart the map again, a soft knock came at the door to his dorm room. spinning off his computer room chair, he prepared himself to be lectured by aizawa for the fifth time this week about breaking curfew. “aizawa-sensei, i know that i’ve been loud lately but i swear this time it won’t happen- y/n?” he stopped mid-sentence as he saw you standing on the other side of the door. “what are you doing up so late?”

you shook your head, immediately hugging his torso instead. you were clearly a bit distraught about something, but denki wasn’t a mind reader. he figured that from the way you were clinging onto him, it must have been a bad dream of some kind. “hey, hey, easy there! nearly knocked me over, huh,” denki laughed lightly, pressing a soft kiss to the side of your head before closing the door behind you. you clung onto him, face buried in the crook of his neck. it made a small blush dust across his cheeks, a warm feeling spreading through his arms as he held you close. “i hope i’m not bothering you,” you mumbled, to which denki hummed. “you never bother me, babe. it’s okay, i couldn’t really sleep anyways.”

the two of you stayed like that for a long while, denki swaying the two of you back and forth. you could feel gentle lips peppering the crown of your head with kisses. as your heart rate slowed, denki piped up. “wanna stay here for the night? my bed’s missing out on some action! and by some action, i mean sleep. i really can’t sleep.”

you snorted at his words, your eyes flicking up to his goofy yet endearing smile, his eyes bright yet a bit tired from late night gaming. he poked his tongue out at you, making you roll your eyes with a tiny smile of your own gracing your features.

“how could i say no to that?”

and the fact that he can’t sleep properly or well unless you’re with him

you smell like lavender in the morning too bc he puts it in his pillow to help him sleep, thank you

shinsou lay awake in bed, eyes trained on the ceiling as he waited for himself to fall asleep. it was no secret that he barely got any rest, so it was simply easier to just sit and wait until his body exhausted itself to the point where he simply fell asleep. staying as still as he could, he kept counting the amount of times he breathed in and out. it made him acutely aware of his surroundings. the crickets outside his room, the way the moonlight streamed through his blinds, the miscellaneous creaking sounds of the dorms. yeah, he definitely wasn’t sleeping tonight.

he didn’t flinch as the door to his room opened, blinking slowly as his eyes adjusted to the light spilling into his room along with a new figure. “y/n?” he asked, not bothering to sit up. “hey, are you up? sorry toshi, i couldn’t sleep,” you explained softly, allowing the door to close behind you as you tiptoed across his dorm room. his hair was sprawled across his pillow, deep violet locks hiding his hands situated behind his head comfortably. it showed off his arms that were built from training for when, not if, he ever got into the hero course.

a lazy smile crossed his lips at your words, his heartstrings being played by you so seamlessly. “it’s okay, i couldn’t sleep anyways,” he replied with a tilt of his head towards you. he moved over a bit in his bed as to give you space to lay down next to him. you crawled beneath his comforters, inhaling the scent of lavender as you did. apparently shinsou had said that the smell helped him fall asleep easier. strong arms wrapped around your waist, encasing you in a protective embrace as your head rested comfortably against his chest. the comforter was thrown over the two of you. you felt so much safer already.

his large hands were placed on your lower back, his thumbs drawing lazy circles on your skin as his breathing began to relax noticeably. hiding your smile, you cuddled closer to him. to this day, you had never seen shinsou fall asleep so quickly since that night.

izuku was pacing around his room, vocabulary words spinning about his mind as he counted them on his fingers. he was mumbling definitions to himself, going over all of them in his head before referencing his notebook to make sure nothing went wrong. amidst his ramblings, a knock at the door made him jump to attention. “come in?” he called out, watching intently as he saw you come into view. his face showed relief, grateful to know it wasn’t aizawa or kacchan complaining about his incessant pacing.

“would it be alright if i sleep here tonight? i’m worrying about my grades and stuff again,” you rubbed the back of your neck with a small smile, trying to play off your question as relaxed as you could. it wasn’t exactly a secret that you had a crush on the boy in front of you. he was kind and humble, wanting to help as many people as he could despite all the circumstances that had the world against him. it was admirable. even now, he looked so concerned from the clear lack of sleep you’ve been getting these past few days. “of course you can sleep here. ah, wait! i have to, ah,” he stumbled over his words as you looked to the bed to see not one, not even two, but four all might stuffed toys on his bed.

“oh.”

midoriya’s face erupted with crimson, shoving the plushies into his closet as he sputtered out various excuses as to why they were there in the first place. when he turned back to you, you were giggling. not at him, but because of the entire situation in general. “you’re adorable, izu,” you told him gently. a light feeling bloomed in his chest upon seeing the smile you held for him. you looked so undeniably beautiful to him, the way your hair was a bit messy and how you stood in your pyjamas. while others, including yourself, would find that you looked completely normal, midoriya loved seeing you be so casual, so comfortable around him.

“you’re sure i’m not interrupting you, though?”

midoriya returned your smile with his own, stepping forward to intertwined his scarred fingers with your delicate ones. “it’s okay,” he murmured softly, holding your hand as if you were the most precious thing in the world to him, “i couldn’t really sleep anyways.”

Summary:

“If it’s connected to Dream, we need to know,” Techno said, sitting back down at Sam’s desk, ready to wait until he got his way. After a few seconds of silent staredown, the Warden sighed and bent down to switch the live cams. “Meet ‘T’, the unwilling cause of my most recent headache.” Wilbur didn’t think he had any surprise left in him. This one gave him a run for his money. “Sam,” he said slowly, “why in the world is there a child in the high security cells?”

Or: All Tommy’s ever known are the walls of this cell and the slow bubbling of the lava. Not that that's a very long time; Tommy doesn’t remember his age (or much of anything, these days) but he knows he’s young. From the other side of the wall, Dream tells him tales of arrogant heroes and misunderstood villains, which grow bitter as the time pass. And, though Tommy doesn’t want to be selfish, sometimes, he thinks he has it worse. Dream, at least, knows why he’s imprisoned.

he cannot play zombies for shit in call of duty though

not because he’s scared of them

but because when a hoard of zombies comes he panics and starts spray shooting horribly

so he ends up getting attacked

as well as gaming though he has a knack for singing

as he grew up he got more confident in his singing

his old videos used to be SO out of focus and blurry

sometimes he would put the camera in a really bad position so half his body wouldn’t even be in the frame

after chan saw that video though he was like

so chan got down and fixed seungmin‘s entire camera set-up

and hyunjin was so desperate to beat him he was just like okkkk

finally!!!!

obviously, MAJOR THROWBACKKK, seungmin picked minecraft

they had a week until the battle would commence

so both boys were playing non-stop minecraft in preparation

felix was just like “damn and you guys call me extra???”

the day of the fight!!!!

seungmin had chosen the Battle mini game

(a quick rundown: each player starts somewhere on the map, there are treasure chests everywhere in the map (and like 5 chests in the middle). you gotta collect weapons, armour, food and potions from the chests because you gotta fight the other person before the time runs out)

seungmin figured that hyunjin would run to the chests in the middle so instead

he ran to the chests near his hiding place

(yeah, he knows all the maps like the back of his hand)

and he got decent resources from there (a bow and a few arrows, some apples, 2 regeneration potions and a mixture of armour)

there was still enough time so he ran to a couple more chests before the showdown began and he had to fight hyunjin

MEANWHILE

(as seungmin correctly guessed) hyunjin ran to the middle of the map to get to the 5 treasure chests

and he racked up a lot of food, armour, a couple of diamond swords and some shitty potions

when the showdown began he moved to one corner of the map so he could try to find seungmin

and seungmin knew that eventually, once hyunjin couldn’t see him, he would get annoyed and start searching for seugmin

so he waited like 30 more secs before he saw hyunjin’s character moving around the map

almost near the end of the countdown,,,,

and neither had fought yet lmao

but seungmin was quite high up and hyunjin hadn’t managed to spot him yet (or find a way to get to higher ground)

so riiight when hyunjin was below seungmin he started shooting his arrows lmao

and hyunjin, being startled, jumped down quickly

wrong move !!!!

because seungmin could still shoot at him

and then when hyunjin had run away seungmin jumped down

and he swapped to his diamond pickaxe and

whilst hyunjin was looking up trying to find him

seungmin literally stabbed him in the back with his axe

so hyunjin quickly turned around with his sword

managed to get a few hits

but

ultimately

seungmin won

yOOOO the boys were screamingggg

seungmin had actually beat hyunjin fair and square lmfao

jeongin, felix, and woojin were with seungmin

and jisung, chan, changbin and minho were with hyunjin

yeah they were in separate houses

so that nobody screenwatched

(they took it that seriously)

felix skyped jisung just so that hyunjin could see them all partying and laughing whilst hyunjin was just there like

So. I have a theory that Bigfoot (part time moonshine connoisseur, full time hipster. he has a man bun and cutoff booty jorts to prove it), Mothman (never actually talks, mostly communicates in shrieks and judgmental glares), and the Last Unicorn (Youtube Gamer Girl who exclusively drinks redbull) are all Youtube buddies and collab all the time. Bigfoot has a prank channel where he uploads vlogs where he messes with the latest “Bigfoot Hunters”, The Last Unicorn plays a lot of hardcore gamer games can you tell how much of a gamer i am, creepy or weird or underrated Indie games, and a ton of Among Us, and Mothman does a lot of weird slime videos that don’t ever have much to do with slime and include a lot of ominous staring from dark shadows (his subscribers LOVE his vibe and go absolutely nuts when he ends up scarring some random passerby who dared inerrupt the SLIME VIDEO). They all do a weekly Minecraft video on their shared server and sometimes they have guest appearances from other cryptids

Ive constructed the plot for a 90’s era comedy movie bouncing around in my head after discussing this topic extensively with a couple friends over lunch one day. It involves the Cryptid Trio (gonna need to come up with a proper name for them eventually, it will probably be the name of their minecraft server too) going to New York as tourists where absolutely nobody blinks an eye at them. One guy even goes as far as to comment that Bigfoot’s “costume” should have “bigger feet” and that the man bun “looks stupid”. The Last Unicorn raids a drugstore for Redbull and jalapeño cheetos and now has the police after her. Mothman just really enjoys New York style pizza.

What should have been the main “plot” is a pair of hardcore supernatural investigators are tailing them through New York but all of their “evidence” keeps getting destroyed or lost due to random New York Happenings. One guy gets a great picture of them in Central Park but a cyclist runs into him and he falls in a pond and loses the pictures. The other guy gets a video but the camera is stolen on the subway. They’re about to spring a trap for one of the main trio and a taxi driver springs it first and cusses them out on the curb while the cryptids continue walking calmly in the background. At some point the team up with a pair of police detectives but they still keep getting foiled by dumb stuff.

The best part is?

Bigfoot is livestreaming the whole time. The Whole Time! and you can just barely see the Supernatural Investigators and NYPD in the background getting attacked by pigeons or something. And the Cryptid Trio’s whole trip is just them getting into dumb touristy hijinks and confusing the locals.
