Palm and Neung were both waiting for that kiss -- aching for it, even -- even though I think only Palm really let himself really acknowledge it. But they both so carefully kept themselves from rocking each other from touching during it. Hands kept very purposefully to themselves, even as they poured their feelings into each other.

Because Palm can't let himself believe that the kiss is anything more than Neung letting Palm fill a role and erase a hurt in his life, and Neung can't let himself believe that Palm sees him as more than a duty to fulfill, a helpless fool who needs to be placated.

Even as they cling to each other, and entwine themselves together tighter and closer, they still don't touch.

After the kiss, they don't talk. Neung just curls into Palm, and Palm lets his hand curl around Neung's shoulder.

(It's only later, after they've run away and left their parents behind, possibly dying, that they hold onto each other)
