I think I have a weird positionality within gay spaces cuz I am extremely transmasc passing, like ppl have gone months without realizing that I'm not in fact transmasc, and like when I meet transmasc ppl, like especially transmasc dykes, they very much greet me as one of them in ways i definitely dont see them doing to my sisters.

This feels especially true for like transmascs who are very much attached to their lesbianism (which I have no qualms with inherently), because I think a lot of the gender I perform in these spaces is very lesbian, even though I have no particular attachment to lesbianism as any sort of ism. I get invited to these spaces that are treated as definitively 'lesbian,' and despite the variety of lesbian and bisexual cis women, nonbinary people, and transmascs, dolls are usually either entirely absent, or in very small numbers, especially in relation to the number in the area that outwardly should have a place in the space.

I really don't think it's malicious or conscious, and I don't think in most of the instances I have experienced that being perceived as a TS woman would have led to outright hostility, I just think people are so used to excluding TS women like high schoolers excluding the one weird kid in class. It's usually not going to be name calling and harassment, most of the time it's gonna be treating them poorly but with plausible deniability, make them feel like they're talking to a wall, make them feel just unwelcome enough that it's them who makes the choice to walk away. Cuz if it was their choice, well, you don't have to confront the fact that you excluded them.

So then dolls find and make their own spaces. Cuz we need somewhere to be, we need some kind of community. I feel more gay community at a local hardcore show than I feel at lesbian mud wrestling. Cuz even though most of the crowd is gonna be cishet, I'll see way more sisters there than at any lesbian event. And community isn't just "demographic," it's a network of people whose names and faces you know. And it's hard to get to know people when they make your sisters feel unwelcome.

Idk I dont really have a point here, it's mostly just some noticing I've been doing, and it just bums me out. Blah

More than five years ago you answered an ask "should I still try to get access to gender affirming health care when the world seems to near her end", where you said that it took you a long, long time to get access and that it was a woman on the phone who listened to you, that one just has to find "that one person that cares that opens a few doors". That was also the time where I started applying for HRT &etc, and that last sentence was always on my mind when I got denied or someone sent me to someone else. It was one of the things that kept me going when I truly was loosing any hope of ever getting access to top surgery, and today I got the call that my health insurance has agreed to cover it. I am nearly there, and I have to thank you for it as well. I truly wish that the universe repays your kindness

Thank you for sharing, I’m so happy to hear you’ve gotten yourself so far because it’s not an easy road. Dealing with insurance is an absolute nightmare, but if there’s one piece of advice I’ll continue to give, all it takes is one person somewhere to listen and treat you with dignity and respect, you need a lot of resilience and persistence, but that person is out there.

The story again for anyone that doesn’t know: was trying to get top surgery years ago, kept getting coverage denied, insurance kept suggesting surgeons that had no history of performing ts (one of them was reviewed to have left surgical instruments inside of patients Yikes). One surgeon said I had to wait 9 months for a paid consultation just to answer if she had experience with the procedure, and that was my last straw, I was done being messed about. Called up my insurance, a lady picked up, I vented what had been happening for the last 4 years at the time, I didn’t know what else to do, but she listened. When I told her the latest incident, she suddenly dropped the customer service act and said, “Hold up, they said what?” and so I told her again. She was in disbelief. There was a long pause and she asked if she could put me on hold. About 30-40 minutes go by, I’m waiting, I’ve nothing left to lose. Finally she gets back on the line and apologies for keeping me so long. She says she manually combed the computer database for surgeons offering gender affirming services and found no one… so she said she and the others in the office went and physically hand searched several filing cabinets for a surgeon. She said, “I think we found you someone, he’s in network, he studied at Harvard, he’s a member of a trans health board. We don’t know why he wasn’t in our computer system, but he’s approved,” and gave me his details. I thanked her earnestly for what she went out of her way to do, and she said something I’ll never forget. “You know, I have a son your age. And if he was going through this, I would want him to get the help he needs.” Who knows how long that file had been buried unnoticed in that cabinet or how many more automated denials it would’ve taken for me to leave this world early, but her empathy saved my ass because when she heard me struggling, she thought of her son. Insurance companies are designed to treat everyone like numbers, strangers, or in my case “freaks”. But to her, it was like her child calling her and asking for help. And yeah I’m alive because of her

As I am sure you are aware, the integrity of the global broadcast network is decaying as time progresses. I recognize that there is a limited amount of time that we iterators have before long-distance communication becomes impossible. Thus, I have decided to make an effort to get to know my fellow iterators before I lose the chance.

Now, the primary reason for my contact: I became curious to investigate your broadcast frequency after it appeared on the long-range communications channels.

Your broadcast signature appears to match some of the data stored within my personal archives. I believe I may have recordings of some of your musical broadcasts, though I was unable to locate the source until now. I am glad to have identified their originator!

I will admit that I have only a passing familiarity with the arts; my expertise lies elsewhere. However you appear to be quite knowledgeable about cultural matters of a musical nature, and I am eager to learn more about areas of study outside of my own personal research.

I have some questions about your work, if you would not mind me asking. Do you have any favorite musical compositions, or perhaps some that are important to your research? I also wonder, is your work primarily curatorial, or have you created any original compositions of your own?

I appreciate your efforts in the realm of data preservation and dissemination; I believe such actions are quite valuable to the wider iterator community, especially during these times of looming isolation.

While I'm glad to hear they are not completely opposed to the idea of TS being a "distant neighbor", it would be an extremely distant one, even for iterator standards! "Wouldn't even show up on the map" kind of distant X'D TS's idea of what is "far away" is possibly skewed by how large the radius of his transmissions is--
