ᴡᴀʀɴɪɴɢꜱ: little angsty and existential
Tumblr media
ᴍᴀʏʙ'ꜱ ɴᴏᴛᴇ: there's a part 2 coming up, pretty different from part 1, in fact i came up with part 2 before part 1. also been working on this since the tsireya fic, 3 days ago.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
His name was (y/n). Or at least, that's what Neteyam had heard, and he had heard about him a lot in his short time in Awa'atlu. He, however, hadn't gotten the chance to speak with him.
The Metkayina liked him. Even Ronal, the bitter Tsahìk that so very hated Neteyam's family, and Tonowari treated him like one of their own. Though he supposes that in Ronal's eyes, all except for the Sully's were "her own" (Neteyam was a respectful kid, raised to be, but even Ronal drew some bitter thoughts he'd never disclose).
It wasn't exactly hard to tell that he was a special person to the clan, like any part of him could be weaved into anybody's songcord.
Neteyam watched from afar as he dismounted from his ilu. As he dug his toes into the sand of the shore, several people greeted him at once. He met each one with their name and a heartfelt grin.
Neteyam once knew what it was like to be loved by everyone in his clan, once knew each of their names, once knew how long it took to greet every single one as each just had to greet him. Once, he had greeted each one just as graciously. As time flew by, it felt like another one of his duties. Now, he no longer did at all. He missed it, strangely.
Then, as you finally turn to him, your smile falls. It wasn't like most others when they saw his dark blue skin and leaner physique; your lips didn't form a scowl. Instead, you flashed him a small smile before turning away.
Somehow, it looked kinder. Neteyam didn't know how.
He didn't really need to, anyway. All he needed was to keep up the formality, greet you with a smile just like the rest, because this would be the farthest your interactions would go.
After all, as far as the Metkayina were concerned, he was a demon and you were their golden child.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Whilst Ronal and Tonowari treated you like one of their children, your relationship with their actual children was unknown to Neteyam.
And certainly to Lo'ak.
The Sully brothers watched on as the golden child and the Tsahìk-to-be bantered.
Tsireya was to be giving them lessons on Metkayina life, but it seems she was too distracted for that. She laughed at your joke, her grin wide and mouth uncovered, and you laughed along with her. Truly, it was a sight to be hold, the gold of the Metkayina shining brightly. It was almost blinding.
As you continued down the beach, still so far from the Sully's but close enough for prying eyes, Lo'ak scoffed. Neteyam turned to his brother with confusion and began to speak, but Lo'ak beats him to it. "Do you think they're like siblings or something else?"
"Why would you care?" In truth, Neteyam knew exactly why Lo'ak cared. As the older brother he was, he just wanted to him admit it. On his end, there was a curiosity digging at his chest, but he was too polite to go digging for the truth.
Sensing his brother's underlying intentions, Lo'ak comes up with another reason. "If we're going to be living here for the rest of our lives, I think I have a reason to care."
For the rest our lives. Right. Neteyam wasn't going back. He clears his throat, a new mischief in his tone, "If you want to know so badly, ask them yourself."
"What?" Lo'ak exclaims rather loudly, catching the attention of those around him. It seems he doesn't care, though. "No way, bro!"
It catches Tsireya's attention as well and Lo'ak doesn't notice. She looks towards the two of them, her–no, Lo'ak specifically, Neteyam can tell. Her big eyes seem somewhat worried. She turns towards you, suddenly nervous, and the two of you exchange a few more words before you make your way towards them with quicker strides whilst Tsireya tags along more calmly.
Neteyam sort of knows then that Lo'ak and Tsireya will be alright.
When the two of you are close enough, Tsireya's first focus is on his brother. When he moves his gaze more towards the two of you, he finds your eyes to be on him.
You meet him with that small smile again and he feels the need to return it with his own.
"This is (y/n)." Tsireya introduces you. You give a small wave. "He has graciously offered himself today to be my assistant."
"Hold on, assistant?" You pause, putting a hand on her shoulder and veering her towards you.
"Remember, you're not supposed to be here." She replies with a kind of sass Neteyam hadn't really expected, considering the previous breathing lessons he'd gotten from her.
"But I can be," You bite back, "and I am."
She shakes her head at you and pushes your hand away from her shoulder. "Co-teacher."
"yay!"
Tsireya rolls her eyes but otherwise ignores you. "Trust me, he's a very good rider and teacher. I think you'll do well under his guidance. Follow me."
When the family makes it into the water, even the generally displeasing Ao'nung and Rotxo greet you kindly, an action that makes Lo'ak's hairy eyebrows raise with shock. Neteyam simply brushes it off as one of the things you sort of do to people.
The class starts off first with a demonstration on the positioning, done by you of course. Tsireya said that since you'd so kindly offered yourself once, you could do it again.
Afterwards, you broke off into separate one on ones.
Neteyam watched Lo'ak obviously be paired up with Tsireya, then he made sure Tuk was safely away from Ao'nung and his friends. Lastly, he wondered which one of them would teach him; although, it didn't seem like he'd have to wonder for long.
"Hello." You greet him. It's the first time you greet him verbally, let alone the first ever word you direct towards him.
He gulps, his words suddenly stuck in his throat. "Hey."
Your following interaction isn't so awkward because he doesn't have to say anything.
Neteyam follows as per your teachings. At first, it doesn't seem very different from riding his ikran, aside from the lack of death risk. Even after seeing his brother fail rather miserably, he retains some confidence.
However, all of it comes crashing down after his first try… and then his second and third. Frustration begins to build within him and you can sense it.
"Ma Neteyam," You snap your fingers and finally gain his attention, "it's alright. Nobody gets it on their first try."
He nods to himself and rolls his shoulders, preparing for another try; but you place a hand atop his where it holds the ilu. Instead of saying anything, you simply offer him a look. Your eyes are a deep blue, he notices, expressive in the way that he can tell silently that you believe in him. He looks away before he gets too lost.
He grips onto the Ilu and lowers himself over its body. He feels its breath and imitates its strength to hold onto its body tighter.
This time, he won't fail. This time, he'll impress you.
Neteyam takes a deep breath and leads the ilu into a dive.
The rush of speed feels exhilarating, it reminds him of flying on his ikran for the first time. The water surrounding him rushes past his body refreshingly like the air when he flies; but water is denser, and just like air, it tries to push him off. He grips onto the ilu tighter with both his hands and calves. Knowing that he is resisting something so strong, and well at that, feeds into his excitement.
He feels the ilu's strength like it is his own and grips tighter, but slowly, he feels his resistance to the current slipping.
Suddenly, he thinks: he can't make a fool of himself.
So, he holds onto the grip and pulls. Despite him and Neteyam not being familiar with each other, the ilu understands and comes to a sharp stop that nearly has Neteyam falling over backwards, but he holds on.
Far away from you, Neteyam emerges with the widest grin he's worn in a long time. He raises his fist and can't help but to let out one of his cries from home. "Ìley!"
"Ìley!" His joy grows as you mimic the foreign cry in celebration with him, "Neteyam!"
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Neteyam initially thought you would leave your interactions curt and only speak with him when necessary. He did try to keep up a positive outlook, that the Metkayina would eventually come to see him and his family as part of the clan, but it seemed far off.
Whilst Tsireya stayed with them to explore the ocean, you had other duties to attend to. Eventually, you had to bid him farewell. It wasn't with an excuse, nor with a "goodbye", it was with a "see you later".
Maybe he was digging too far into simple farewells, but those words felt like a promise.
The promise, however, wouldn't be fulfilled soon; and it isn't until the day after that you finally get to talk again. Even then, the next day gave way to the eclipse, and after that, he couldn't find you.
Just as he gave up and began the walk back to his family, he encountered you accidentally.
Though he sought you out for the better half of the day, he didn't know what to do now that he had you alone. So, too awkward to say anything, he sat down on the knitted pathway above you and watched.
As expected, you notice his presence but do not turn to him yet, too preoccupied with feeding your companion.
"I'm sorry I haven't talked to you in a while, Neteyam."
"It's alright," He empathizes with the shake of his head, "you're a popular guy."
"Am I now?" You snicker.
"I haven't been here for long, but I can tell."
"I'd rather call myself busy. But truly, I'm sorry. First it was Ao'nung today wanting to explore the ocean with me, then it was Tsanten wanting to test my hunting skills again." You sigh, clearly exhausted after everything that's happened today. "You know, sometimes I think it's just an excuse to hunt with me."
Neteyam was simply content in hearing you talk, you did something that just made simple sentences so entertaining, but you turn to him and hand the conversation over. "I didn't get to talk much about it with you yesterday, so how was riding your ilu?"
"It's strangely like flying an ikran," He zones out while he collects his thoughts, "which is something I miss. I think I like it so much because it feels like I'm defying something that wants so badly the opposite. It feels like I'm fighting gravity and succeeding. You know, I found and trained my ikran. No offense, but it doesn't really feel the same when you didn't find your companion, like my ilu."
With that said, he looks to you again. You watch him with attentive eyes that made him feel so seen... It kind of makes him nervous. He looks away, embarrassed, "Sorry, I'm ranting."
"No, it's alright."
"Okay, well, um, I like the rush too. Going so fast is really fun—sorry, I'm," He shakes his head at himself, for he was being impolite. "talking too much."
"Neteyam, it's alright, really." You reassure him, wading over and placing a hand next to his. "I like listening to you."
"Oh."
It was meant to be encouragement so that he'd continue speaking without shame, but now he quiets down. Heat begins to pool in his cheeks and Neteyam wants to drench them in water, but not only would he have to get in the water with you, it would also be akin to splashing water over magma.
"Sorry, that was–Su, I'll get to you later."
"Su?" Neteyam's curiosity overpowers his awkwardness and he turns to look.
"Short for Syulang." Seeing as he was more interested in you now, you allow your ilu to get the attention she wants. She digs her mouth into your palms, vigorously searching. "Su, you already got your dinner. I don't have anything else for you."
You raise your hands in the air, showing her that they're empty. When she sees them, she almost seems to roll her eyes at you. Instead, she huffs and leaves like a toddler having a tantrum.
Out of the corner of his eye, Neteyam catches a tsurak. It looks ominous and angry, only showing its eyes above the surface. He has half the mind to point it out until you say something that catches the tsurak's attention. "Zìk, I know you're around here somewhere."
The tsurak swims over sort of begrudgingly and passively accepts your pets.
"Zìk? Like tìngäzìk?" Neteyam asks.
"Yeah, actually." You snicker, "Tìngäzìk is quite the problem. He was pretty hard to tame. Most of them are, anyway, so maybe I'm a little too on the nose. Nowadays, though," After you feed Zìk, he actually seems to be enjoying your touch; or maybe the fish is still in his mouth and he's enjoying that. "he does seem to like me. Not that I really know."
Something else interests him. "I thought only those that completed their iknimaya could tame one."
"You'd be right."
"So you have completed it? But you're so–" He cuts himself off with a cough, as he hadn't realized just how rude it'd be to say that.
"Young? Yeah, I know. Everybody loves to tell me." You brush it off with the shake of your head; it's a relief. "How about you? Have you completed it?"
"No, I've yet to complete my Uniltaron." Something in the back of his mind vaguely reminds him that the Metkayina don't have a Uniltaron. "My mom is afraid of me doing it because of how badly my father was hurt while he did it."
"Ough," You wince, "what is it?"
"Singing." Neteyam chuckles, "I don't know how my dad got hurt during that."
"The great Jake Sully, huh?" You ignore Zìk's idle gnawing at your hand and hop up to sit next to Neteyam. "Anyway, the Metkayina have a different iknimaya. When I completed the trials, I got this."
When you pull your necklace up to show him the tattoo on your chest, Neteyam gasps softly. His eyes seem glued to the sight. It's rather cute.
"It's so cool..." He subconsciously traces a finger over the ink, not realizing just how intrusive he was being. He doesn't, however, miss how soft your skin feels. The tattoo looks like a heart to him, the kind his father had taught him to be the symbol of love for the sky people. "What does it mean?"
"It means "loved by the people", it more than displays a characteristic of mine, it's also a wish for it to stay that way forever."
He purses his lips, "And "the people" are?"
"The Metkayina, of course." As if Neteyam needed another reminder that the Metkayina didn't like him. He frowns, only with enough conscience to make it small so that you may not see.
"...but I'm open to anyone's love."
If that was targeted, Neteyam chooses not to believe it.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Neteyam never thought he'd miss home. He thought he'd always be with the Omatikaya.
Maybe this is how Kiri feels, like an outcast. He had listened to her multiple times over their life together, listened to how different she felt, and had never understood. After all, the two of them were surrounded by their people, the Omatikaya. Where their shelter in the mountains was, they were, and they were truly what home was.
But now that he lived within the Metkayina, he feels so out of place. It feels just like what Kiri described: being surrounded by her people but still feeling so different from them. The Metkayina and him were of the same species, they were all Na'vi, but at the same time, they were different. It wasn't just that either. All those people knew each other, thought themselves family, while he watched from the sidelines.
He missed home.
He's suddenly interrupted by you sitting next to him, although you don't seem intent on sitting idle for long. "Kxì, Neteyam."
"Kaltxì." He greets simply.
"Do you want to explore the ocean today?"
"Fpvìl..." He trails off, just to seem as though he was considering it. He really didn't want to do much in the ocean today, or on the shores. He felt rather dispirited. "Not really."
"Oh, well." You don't let the rejection last long. "How about the jungle, then?"
The jungle? Neteyam suddenly perks up, eyes wide and hopeful. "Can we?"
Ever since he caught a glimpse of a possible pathway within the dense tree line, he's wanted to go inside. Still, he wasn't so sure if he was really allowed to. His father would probably call it a distraction in the path of discipline, as Jake wanted to make sure his children fit in so their differences could be overlooked.
He thought you were just an excuse to go against his father's word and explore the jungle; except, you were more than that.
"Of course."
The island's jungle was nothing like that of the mainland. The trees, for one, were much more sparse; the shrubbery crowding the ground was short and the humidity was much harsher. It reminded him of home, though, and it was the closest thing he would have here.
However, the jungle was still beautiful. It was home to a variety of plants Neteyam had never seen before, and each had their own charm. There was a particular plant that resembled a giant fern, he couldn't really name it. Their stems were intertwined at the base and spread outward at the top, fading from blue to orange. Their leaves were ginormous, growing like feathers, and blue at the end. The plant's blue reminded him of the moonlight at home. Other plants, like fan-like flowers, deserved their own admiration too.
It didn't take long to reach the heart of the jungle. Even though the ocean was far, just like the people inhabiting it, the island embraced water. Wide waterfalls from the mountains and cascades all flowed into a center lake, their humidity forming rainbows anywhere he looked.
Finally, Neteyam took a seat and simply admired. You sat next to him. "I'll never get tired of this."
"You've been here before?" He asked.
"Mhm." You nodded, "Many times, actually. It's a good escape, this place, away from the people."
"I thought they loved you."
"They do, just.." You sigh, slouching slightly. "they're a bit overwhelming at times, you know?"
"Oh, yeah." He chuckles at the thought. He hadn't experienced it in what felt like a long time now; it was only a couple weeks in reality. He missed it, as annoying as it was at times.
"You do?" You ask, somewhat shocked.
"My father is Jake Sully." He said, as if it explained it all. It didn't, though, so he continued. "Everybody wanted to know what he was doing; and then, he was Olo'eyktan and I was, in turn, "prince". Everybody wanted to know what I was doing. Everybody wanted to talk to me and everybody had something to say."
"It's the same for me." You stretch your toes in the water and lean further back along the lake's shore. Neteyam hears a couple joints crack. "Ah, it's nice being on your own sometimes."
"But it doesn't feel the same once you've been alone for too long."
"How do you mean?" You ask, confusion spread throughout your face.
"You're not content." He fiddles with his fingers absentmindedly, picking at the lines on his hands. "People have filled every minute of your life, so when they're gone, you feel as though something is missing."
He wasn't really making sense to you. "But you're not alone."
"I'm not." He affirms, "But I'm not with friends or family, either. The Metkayina don't like me."
"Hey, I like you." Butterflies spread throughout his chest, prod at his nerves like they want to escape. He tries his best to ignore them.
"I know." He doesn't–well, hadn't–but he says it anyway. "So then, what about the others?" They think I have demon blood.
"You're right." You purse your lips.
Great, he was making you sad.
"You know what?" You suddenly stand with a renewed vigor. "Let's just forget about it all. Let's forget about other people and just explore, huh, 'Teyam?"
You wear the widest grin–that he thinks looks real pretty on your face–and offer him a hand which he takes immediately. With his hand in yours, you pull him to his feet with such strength he almost tips forward. Instead of making fun of him for it, you laugh and he can't help but join in.
"Come on, let me show you my favorite place."
Before you could show him many more of your other "favorite" places, the eclipse came down and you had to come home. That night, at the pods, you leave him with another promise, that you'll show him the rest.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
You step off your ilu, greeting several people. Neteyam learned the other day it was sort of a routine for you.
As you walk from waist-deep in the ocean back to the shore, you swing your wet hair from behind your shoulder. You gather it in your hands and ring it out. Like a small waterfall, salt water spills from your hair and returns to the ocean. You swing your hair back over your shoulder and run a hand through your hair to push back the stray hairs from your face.
Neteyam finds himself a little mesmerized, but he snaps out of it when his brother speaks up.
"Look at him." Lo'ak grumbles, his chin resting boredly on his palm. "The Metkayina's perfect "little" boy."
Neteyam laughs inwardly. Right, his brother still wasn't sure whether you and Tsireya were promised to one another or not. He would've told him, but it was a bit funny seeing him be so jealous. "So you are admitting he's perfect?"
"If everyone's saying it, does it matter if I say it too?" Lo'ak argues.
"Eh," Neteyam shrugs, shaking his head side to side in a "more or less" motion. "I do think so. That means that you think he's prefect too."
"Well, he isn't." He huffs.
"Mhm." After beating his brother in the argument, Neteyam turns back to you. You're much closer now, but still a few ways off, and you're still saying hello to people. Just seeing you do it feels tiring. At least it gives him more time to admire you.
Your necklace hangs low below your neck, its bead arrangement falling tragically over your tattoo and covering the main attraction. Still, the image of it is ingrained in his mind. The symbol of a heart really suited you.
When, finally, you're close enough, you give him a wave. Lo'ak thinks it's more directed towards the two of you, so he begrudgingly waves too. In that moment, his brother reminds him of your tsurak Zìk, but his thoughts are interrupted when you call to him.
"Ma Neteyam, you ready yet?!"
He only shoots you a thumbs up, for many people were already staring at the two of you and he didn't want to attract more attention, even though they'd begun to be more indifferent towards him.
"What does he mean ready?" Lo'ak's eyebrows furrow. He turns to his brother like he's a traitor.
"Sorry, bro, can't say." Neteyam simply replies, though he really can, he just loved to confuse his brother and see his hairy brows knitted together. He stands from his spot next to Lo'ak, readying to leave with you.
"I'm your brother, what could there possibly be that you can't say to me?"
"A lot of things." Neteyam finally turns away from Lo'ak entirely, leaving him to gape and catch bugs in his mouth.
"Let's go." You grin at Neteyam. In contrast, even though you see Lo'ak's weird expression, you only regard him with a small wave. "See ya, Lo'ak."
Far from his brother, Neteyam finally turns his head to give him a little shit-eating grin. Lo'ak only mouths to him words so rushed he can barely read them, You're falling for the golden boy??
And to that, and his brother, he proudly says yes. To himself, however, he doesn't quite know.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
"Have you ever been up there?" Neteyam points, ambitiously, to the top of the highest mountain. It was merely the size of his thumb from here, but he knew that meant it would be so much bigger once he got close to it.
Honestly, what did he expect you to say? "No. That is at least a 3 day journey."
"I can make it an hour." He replies confidently. Oh, he was absolutely counting on you saying no.
"How?" You ask, falling into his plan.
Neteyam simply smirks and calls for his ikran. The call is nothing like you've ever heard before. Within a matter of minutes, she stands before you, posed majestically atop her claws. She was larger than most ilu and her skin was a beautiful green.
You'd only seen banshees during the Sully family's arrival to Awa'atlu. Needless to say, you were amazed.
"Hey girl." He takes her head in both his hands, petting her cheeks with his thumbs. She screeches positively. "I missed you too."
"Woah." You approach slowly.
In comparison to ilu, banshees seemed very intimidating; and ilu, harmless. Perhaps, in that way, banshees were more similar to skimwings. Though, skimwings tended to keep their antagonistic behavior against those that they weren't bonded with. If the same held up with banshees, you were about to find out.
Neteyam senses your hesitance and extends a hand towards you. "Don't worry. She won't bite."
You gulp, "Y'sure?"
"Loved by the people but not by animals?" He tries to rile you up. He understood why you were apprehensive, but he didn't think someone like you–talented in just about anything–would have doubts about approaching an ikran.
"Animals and Na'vi are different, Neteyam." Still, you push on and offer the ikran a hand. She sniffs it first before turning back to Neteyam. Seems she's more interested in catching up with him than you, which is a relief because now you don't have to worry about dying.
Neteyam hops onto her neck, forming the bond. He beckons for you to follow. "Just sit down behind me and make sure to hold on, tight."
You follow his command and wrap your hands around his waist. Suddenly, he freezes, even though this is what he'd instructed you to do. To pass his misspeak off, he hooks one of your wrists above the other to tighten the hold, although it takes a toll on his nerves.
He clears his throat and declares, "Alright, we're off."
His ikran was new at carrying two people at once, not counting Tuk's little weight, but he knew she had the power to hold strong; and that, she did. She handled the two of you just like normal, and for that he'd make sure to thank her with treats.
"This is so cool."
Neteyam thinks it's a crime that you're not screaming yet, so he pats his ikran at the base of her wing and tells her to go faster.
He, of course, remains passive. This kind of speed, this environment, it's something he loves; but mostly, it was something he was used to.
You, on the other hand, "Wooo! This exactly like you described! I've never been so high before!"
He chuckles at your enthusiasm, "How does the wind feel?"
"Like it bites!" You laugh excitedly, daring to even stick a hand up and feel the air push it back. "Feels so refreshing, though!"
Having your affirmation, Neteyam decides to dive. "Alright, get ready."
"For?"
He doesn't reply, as your surprise would be spoiled and that was the fun of it. Instead, he leans forward, leaving you to do the same in anticipation. It's only a matter of seconds before the ikran dives.
"PELA'ANG NETEYAM!"
Your arms around his waist squeeze around him tighter, and he only thinks about it for a second. Your reaction, he finds more entertaining, even if you do scream in his ear.
The dive feels like you're riding on the back of a throwing spear, cutting through the air towards its destination. The air screams into your ears like a warning, its fight against your body like a constant geyser.
"Teyam–" You call. He doesn't respond. "Neteyam! Pull up!"
At the rate you were going at, you were going to crash into the lake, and today was not the day you wanted to return to Eywa.
"Scared?"
"'Course I am!"
Perhaps it was your sudden fear of heights or his experience, but he still felt as though there was plenty of time left. Neteyam laughs at your nerves, but to your benefit, he pulls up before he usually would.
"Phew." Your head falls onto his back. You're exhausted of his antics.
"How was it?" Neteyam asks innocently, like he wasn't just about to possibly cause your death.
"I thought we were going up to the mountain." You grumble.
"Oh, we are, just..." He doesn't actually have an excuse, not that he feels like needs one. "I mean, that was funny, wasn't it?"
"To you."
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Neteyam made good on his promise and you arrived at the mountain within the hour. But, because of your many duties–communal breakfast, hunting, meaningless conversations–it was going to be night soon.
You only had so much time, but you sat not doing much of anything anyway. The peak of the mountain was hardly anything worth exploring. It wasn't so big and only inhabited plants that dared to grow high. What the peak really offered was a view.
"Can hardly see the pods from here." You remark, sitting on a fallen log behind him.
"Yep." Neteyam sits on the cliff, boldly swinging his legs over the edge. He was less looking at Awa'atlu and more at the jungle. "This place is very blue."
The tips of the giant ferns were blue, and they faced up towards the sky. The heart of the jungle was a large lake, and Neteyam learned up here that the tree line surrounding it wasn't so long. Apart from the vague blob of a shape the large clearing drew, there wasn't much else worth admiring. So he turns his gaze up, towards the other islands.
"Does every island have a village?" Neteyam asks, gesturing towards the many islands he could see. There were enough to fill from Awa'atlu to the horizon.
"There's only so many major villages on the larger islands, but yes. There's at least one Na'vi on every single one of those islands... mmph, well," You chuckle, "maybe not that one." You point towards one barely the size of one of your necklace's beads.
Neteyam doesn't reply, so the conversation naturally stops there. He turns his gaze towards something else, the empty space without islands. The ocean was blue, and so was the sky, and it felt like a monotony; but also, the ocean was a deep blue, like him, and the sky lighter, like you. Maybe that meant something.
"How do you handle being so perfect?"
"What?"
"I mean," Neteyam turns to you and holds your gaze, "you're the youngest hunter yet still very competent."
You shake your head with a sigh, "I'm not perfect, Neteyam."
"But the people think otherwise." He stands only to sit next to you. "They love you."
"They don't love me because I do all these great things. They don't love me for being a good warrior or a good hunter, not for taming a tsurak or for being able to throw spears well." You scoot closer to him. He hates seeing that frown on your face. "They love me because of who I am."
In other words, "They see you."
"Yes."
That's how the Omatikaya saw him. Not for being the son of his father or his mother, and not for the duties he fought hard to uphold; they saw him, and ironically, he only realizes after leaving them. Would the Metkayina ever see him the same way?
As the sun and the moon lined up for the eclipse signifying night time, the conversation comes to a stop. It was something that happened daily, and to you, something you'd grown used to. Neteyam, too, had grown used to it, but he was sure that if it stopped, he'd miss it.
"We should head down."
"Yeah."
Neither of you move.
When the last of the daylight leaves, and the moons take over, Neteyam looks down again becomes something catches his attention. "Woah."
Many things glowed purple under the moonlight: the tips of the ferns, specks in the lake, and specks in the village. They were a wonderful sight, flickering vividly under the moonlight like another set of stars. His gaze found the moving lights of the village, likely large groups of Na'vi coming together for dinner. They come from the bright seawall terraces, blend in with the long lines of luminescent fish within the water, then emerge again at the beach; because as important as whatever they were doing was, being with their people for something as simple as eating was more important.
The Metkayina would never be Omatikaya, they would never be the people he grew up with, but he could find solace in them still; for they were all Na'vi.
He would just have to prove it to them first.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Neteyam dips his hand in the water. The salt stings a little against his bruised knuckles, but he ignores it. He cups a good amount of water and brings it to his lips. The wound on those sting too, but it's nothing compared to the pain he felt when he actually received the injury. 'Sides, he's felt worse pains from covering up for Lo'ak plenty of times before. This was nothing.
He pulls his hand away from his lips and observes it. Blood runs down his fingers. It's crimson and thick, much the same as his bond with Lo'ak. He'd done it several times before, and he'd do it again, to stand with his brother; because if not him, who else did he have?
"Neteyam!" Back from a hunt, like always.
Wiya, he didn't want you to seem like this, but if he hid himself from you, you'd be even more suspicious.
He cups a larger amount of water and wipes his face again, hoping to get rid of all the blood staining his skin. He rubs with his hands, but when they part from his face, you're squat next to him curiously.
Neteyam suddenly stands, forcing you to stand too.
Though he had made it up in his mind that he couldn't hide his injuries from you, he's nervous of the outcome. You'd be curious, you'd ask, he'd tell you, and you'd come in defense of your brothers.
So, he looks away from you, though unfortunately you're on his right, the side of his lips that got split.
"What happened to you?"
He purses his lips, his hands balling up into fists at his sides. So much for this friendship, he thinks.
When Neteyam doesn't respond, you take the other side of his jaw between your thumb and forefinger, gently pulling him to look at you.
Before he turned his head to you, his gaze had been downcast, and that translated to when you moved it. He catches a glimpse of your tattoo, loved by the people. It only solidifies the outcome in his head.
"Neteyam." You say, your voice stern with him for the first time. "Who did this to you?"
It's not something he likes, that tone, especially coming from you, but he obeys your silent pleads to explain. "Ao'nung.. and his friends called Kiri a freak. They mocked Lo'ak. Called us all "not real Na'vi". Lo'ak picked a fight with them and I had to back him up."
You're silent for a long time, instead of spewing your anger at him. Anticipation builds up in his chest as he awaits your response, but it doesn't come. Curiously, he allows himself to look up at you and catch your eyes.
Angry. You were angry. But you don't look, not at him, you look towards the ocean.
"(y/n)?"
"Ao'nung just left for a hunt." Your hand leaves his jaw as you part from him, "I can catch up, teach him a lesson."
You only take a few steps, each laced with a heavy intent, before he stops you. He's quick to step in front of you, taking one of your hands in his as another precaution. "You really don't have to. I already taught him a lesson when I punched him, and Lo'ak went to go apologize already."
"Apologize?" You ask. He can hear the absolute shock in your voice. "For standing up against his insults?"
Neteyam nods slowly, knowing that it's not fair either. "Yes."
"Who told him to apologize? Because if there's anything I know about Lo'ak, it's that–"
"My father." He says before you can waste your breath. He knows that, after hearing that it's Jake that commanded his son to "make peace" with his own bullies, you won't stand against him. Because the mighty Jake Sully knew better.
But some things, he doesn't know for sure. "Even your father doesn't defend you?" A nasty scowl grows on your lips. That knowledge provokes you even more. You begin your furious march again, unbothered by his hand.
"(y/n)." He gives a harsh tug.
"Neteyam." Your sudden stop causes you to stomp on the sand. Its grains kick up explosively in the air like a reflection of your anger. "I have to defend you."
"If you do that, your tattoo's wish won't be fulfilled!" He protests, throwing his free hand up into the air. "(y/n), if they see you coming in defense of a demon, they're going to be pissed."
"A demon?" You step closer to him, shaking your head solemnly. "You're not a demon."
"They think otherwise..." He mutters, looking away.
"I have to show them what I see." You put a warm hand on his cheek and Neteyam feels as though it dwarfs his face; it doesn't help the spreading warmth on his cheeks either. "Neteyam, I see you."
His heart hammers within his chest like it'll burst. He doesn't know what to say. "I–"
"Physically, you may be different, but you and me, we are the same. We are Na'vi. You don't deserve the way they're treating you." Everything you said, it's all he wanted to hear. "Oel ngati kameie, ma Neteyam."
He dared, because he couldn't help it, to place a kiss on your lips. It's only a peck, but it brings joy to your eyes.
"You see me, so you know that I am capable of showing the Metkayina that my family and I are not different. I can come in defense of myself, as I did against Ao'nung. Oel ngati kameie, ma (y/n), " He saw you. A boy so kind, a boy that loved him so much, that he was willing to sacrifice what everybody thought of him just to love him. But it wasn't something that he wanted. "but I don't need your help. You don't need to give away everything just for me."
"But nothing's stopping me from doing so."
"That is precisely why I need you to trust me." He pushes your necklace away and places his hand above your tattoo. "Because you may know what I deserve, but I know too that you don't deserve to lose everything. Okay?"
And though it pains you so, you will do what he asks. You bring his hand up and press a kiss to his aching knuckles. "Okay."

✮NETEYAM X FTM!READER✮
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUMMARY : you happen to talk to Neteyam about what it's like to be a trans guy, later on he returns with a gift.
WARNINGS : reader has a big chest, reader's chest described as 'moobs' once, mention of blood.
GENRE : fluff, a bit crack.
WORD COUNT : 2,272
KEYS : (c)=color - (p/s)=pattern shape - (s/c)=shade color+skin color
Tumblr media
You were now sitting on a rock right outside the lab and talking with Neteyam, what were you talking about? Being transgender.
How did that even start? Well you were just hanging out with Lo'ak and Spider in the forest when you accidentally fell and hurt yourself, the injury was on your back and left shoulder, that meant that your binder had been ripped. You were a bit sad about it. (you actually sobbed when you realized that your favorite binder had been ripped)
Going back to the camp in the hallelujah mountains, you were immediately dragged by Lo'ak to Mo'at despite you telling him that you can walk your way to the lab and get treated by the doctors inside.
Anyway, when you finally got to the tent Mo'at was at, Lo'ak immediately sat you down, looking around, you found no one but Neteyam, Kiri and Tuk inside, you were relieved as Neytiri really intimidated you and the last thing you wanted was to walk inside the tent to find her there.
You slowly unzipped your binder, thankful that you were wearing a zip up one as the slightest movement you made were really painful. You then placed the ripped binder on your lap as you adjusted your sitting position to a more comfortable one. In all honesty, you didn't care that your chest was bare as you were born on pandora and everyone would walk around with barely any coverage. Plus, you're a trans man, men walk around with nothing so why would it be a problem if you did the same?
You zoned out a bit as Mo'at treated your injury, you were jolting a bit as it stung really bad, it was worse than alcohol being poured on a paper cut. You were praying to Eywa every second for this to end quickly as you didn't like the pain, and you were also scared that Neytiri would arrive at any moment.
As you relaxed a bit, you noticed Neteyam staring at you with a puzzled expression. Maybe he's confused on how you're able to handle all this pain? Yeah, that's probably the reason, you brushed off how he was staring at you for a long time now.
When Mo'at was done treating you, you thanked her and got up to get to the lab while covering your chest with your binder as it got colder from lack of coverage.
Getting back to your room, you got inside the bathroom you placed your bloody binder in the sink, wondering if it's time you throw it away or if you'll be able to fix it. You decided to wash it and let it dry while you go to sleep. You were grieving at the idea of not wearing a binder for a while due to having a bad injury on your back.
Tumblr media
In the morning, you woke up and dressed in some basketball shorts and a tank top. After eating something for breakfast you got outside and decided to chill there instead of following Spider and Lo'ak like usual as the last thing you wanted was another injury.
You sat on a rock, not too far from the lab as you tried to think of something to do as you were really bored. While daydreaming, you didn't notice the taller boy walking towards and staring down at you, you only realized it when you felt someone tap your shoulder, looking to your left, you found Neteyam.
"Oh hi..." you blurted out, looking at Neteyam as he sat next to you, you really wondered why he would come to you as he had never done that before. "Hello..." He replied quietly. You decided to ask him why he is here as you felt like he wanted to say something. "So uhh... Need something?.." You asked, waiting for the taller boy to answer you.
Neteyam finally broke the silence as he spoke, "may I ask you something? If it doesn't sound too personal.." He replied. You started to get nervous by that question, what was he going to ask you?
"Are you.... A woman?.." He asked calmly, looking back at you hoping the question isn't as bad as it sounds. "No I'm not, I'm a man..." You answered, glancing back at him, wondering how he got that idea. "What gave you this idea?.." You asked calmly, not mad, just curious.
"Well when you took of your clothes... Suddenly your chest got bigger..." You couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "You mean my binder? Yeah I have a really big chest and I bind to make it smaller..." You replied, smiling at him as you were relieved that he meant nothing with his question.
"Did no one tell you that I'm not a cis guy?.." Neteyam looked confused, "cis? I never heard of that..." Oh right, na'vis don't have as much labels and terms...
"Oh right, you don't use terms like that.." You crossed your legs as your moved your body to face Neteyam who looked at you confused. "So, you know how you're born... Male, right?..." You asked him, now fully prepared to explain to him what being transgender is. Neteyam nodded, waiting for you to continue. "You're born male, and identify as a man, that makes you a cis man..." Neteyam nodded again, his ear standing up as he listened closely.
"But I'm not cis, I'm trans, a trans man.." You straightened your back, shifting your legs and hugging one near your chest. "I was born female, assigned female at birth but I don't identify as a woman..." Neteyam blinked, his tail wagging behind him. "Basically the term or label cis is used for anyone who identifies as the sex they were assigned at birth, transgender is when you don't identify as your sex at birth.." You explained, gesturing with your hands hoping he'll understand.
"So, you were a girl... Then a man?..." Neteyam tilted his head. "Yeah it's like that.." You sighed, leaning your back on a rock before hissing as you forgot about your wound and hurt yourself.
"How did you know that you're a man?.." Neteyam asked innocently, wanting to know when you realized that you were a man, not a woman.
Cracking your knuckles you answered. "It's different for everyone, not everyone has the same way of discovery..." You replied, picking under your nails. "But me personally, I knew that from a young age, I used to get mad at others when they would refer to me as a lady and whenever I'd roleplay with other kids I'd always pick the masculine roles, like the king and such..." You replied, laughing at the memories of you being pissed at anyone who referred to you as a girl.
"So you always knew?" "Yeah, I knew it for a long time before discovering the term trans..."
The conversation then escalated to Neteyam asking you more questions, like how do you deal with being born female? Are you happy about it? What do you do that makes you feel more like a cis guy? And you answered all of his questions with no problem as you knew he was just curious.
Neteyam'w ears shot up when he heard that you mostly dress more masculine and how you put make up on your face to masculinize it. You explained how you like to wear t-shirts and basketball shorts as most teenage dudes dress like this and it helps you feel comfortable in your own body as you were still hesitant about hormone therapy and surgeries.
After a long conversation were you explained to Neteyam what it's like to be trans, you both returned to your homes as you didn't realize how long the conversation was until you both noticed how dark it had gotten.
Laying on your bed, you thought nothing about tomorrow and immediately fell asleep while cuddling the blanket with your feet sticking out.
Tumblr media
Another day and you woke up again, the same exact routine of you using the bathroom, dressing up, packing some of your stuff and going outside. It was all going pretty normal, nothing special happening.
Except for one thing, Neteyam was visiting you more than usual, with questions. The first time he came to you he asked about your favorite color and what shade you exactly preferred, he wanted you to choose two shades, the second you answered him he immediately ran back to where he was.
The second time he came to you with gems and crystals, he placed them down on the ground, ranging from the brightest, to the darkest while asking you to pick at least five that had caught your eyes. You picked as he said, he then placed the ones you chose in a separate bag from the one that had them all.
The third time he came and asked you which patterns did you like. Did you like cloudy patterns? Or do you prefer a pattern that resembles the waves of the ocean. Maybe you like flowers? Or simple leaves? Do you like lightning? You gave him an answer on which one you preferred the most to the least you preferred and he gave you a pouty expression. He wanted you to only choose one! So you chose (p/s).
The fourth time Neteyam rushed to you with beads and strings. He had lots of colorful beads and a few strings that ranged from dark to light. From the last few days, you already knew what he was going to ask you to do so you did what you did. You chose a (s/c) string and a few beads (c), (c) and (c).
As you sat outside, you still couldn't help but think about the four days Neteyam came to you with certain stuff and asking you to choose from them. You thought that Neteyam stopped what he was doing as he didn't come this time like he usually does at this hour.
WRONG!
as you thought about, a certain blue boy appeared, with another string. He came to you close, a bit closer than usual. You wondered why he had one long string this time. "Can you lift your arms up for me please?..." Neteyam asked, his voice calm as ever. As you did, he wrapped the string right under your moobs. Wait, is he measuring you???
Neteyam then pulled the string back with your torso size. He was measuring you! Before you can ask he ran away like always. Damn.
Tumblr media
Few days after that, it was like Neteyam had gone missing, you couldn't really find him anywhere unless you came close to his family tent, you'd find him with his back turned to the entrance.
Maybe he's feeling a bit down lately? I mean, he's a warrior, he's going to be the olo'eyktan soon and he has to watch over his younger siblings, all three of them. So you can understand if he was feeling down and staying inside for most of his time.
Talking about feeling down, when you were checking on your injury that was on your back and shoulder you started noticing how it had gotten better and how the pain was now gone. You can finally wear a binder again! Woohoo!
And about your favorite binder, you managed to get it fixed! This time you decided to wear it at times you wouldn't move around much so you won't risk it getting ripped again.
Waking up, you decided to stay in bed for a bit longer as you felt tired. Few minutes later and you were fully awake.
You went to the bathroom, brushed your teeth and did your business before exiting. Looking through your wardrobe, you picked a (s/c) binder that not only covered your chest but also tummy.
Tumblr media
After wearing your exo pack, you got outside and started walking to the camp to try to find Spider as you were able to do stuff without any pain in your shoulder.
You walked around the camp for minutes before giving up, the camp was huge and you had no more energy to try to find Spider so you sat back on the usual rock you'd sit on.
While picking through your hair, a similar figure came on sight and as you guessed it, Neteyam. This time he seemed happy, you were able to tell as he was wagging his tail.
Sitting next to you, he placed a wrapped cloth on your lap. "I made you a gift.." He said, trying to contain his happiness judging by his tone. When you unwrapped it, you found a chest band! Everything made sense now! You kinda wished you weren't that dense and realized sooner.
Touching the chest band, you payed close attention to the small details, he exactly made as you picked, the (c) beads and gems, the (p/s) weaved into it, and how it was all sewed together perfectly.
You smiled at Neteyam, appreciating the gift he spent most of his time on just for you. "Thank you, I really appreciate it..." You muttered, looking back down to the gift you received.
"You said that you you dress masculine to feel better about yourself.." He said, smiling back at you. You felt really touched by him. The both of you then stayed in awkward silence before you spoke up. "I appreciate your hard work.." You smiled at him again before wearing the chest band, it fits perfectly!
"I'm glad you like it." Neteyam looked happy when you wore his gift. Both of you were really happy, you were both glad that you had each other. You really enjoyed being friends...

Imagine:
Being Tsahìk-in-training
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Request: Yes or No
I’ve started a Ko-Fi if anyone would like to tip/donate!
~~~
"An Olo'eyktan must wait to hear Eywa. A Tsahìk is always listening." Mo'at reminded you, detaching her queue from the Tree of Souls. She turned toward the skies as an ikran cried out and Neteyam descended down toward the tree. Pulling your own queue from the tree, you faced him, watching him dismount his ikran and approach.
"Grandmother." He greeted. "Oel ngati kameie."
"What brings you here?" Mo'at questioned, studying her grandson as he turned bashful, his eyes flickering over to you.
"I wanted to speak with (Y/N)." He answered and she hummed, a knowing look on her face. She glanced back at you before stepping down, briefly setting her hand on Neteyams shoulder as she passed him. Neteyam watched her go, nervously toying with his long fingers.
"What's clouding your mind, Neteyam?" You asked, brushing your braid back over your shoulder and tilting your head. It was unusual for the typical calm and cool Sully to appear so nervous.
"I've been thinking about... us."
"Us?" You repeated, an amused grin appearing on your face. His ears pinned back and he rubbed the back of his neck, giving a meek nod.
"I'm going to be Olo'eyktan after my father. It's common that the Olo'eyktan and Tsahìk become mates once the roles pass down."
"Common, yes." You nodded. "But not tradition." You reminded and stepped forward, taking his hands into yours. Neteyam looked down at them, inhaling softly.
"I-"
"If you wish to choose another, you may. I can assure you I will not be offended." You chuckled. His head snapped up, eyes widening.
"No, no.. I- I do want you! I just..." Neteyam groaned softly, pulling his hand from yours to run it over his face. You laughed despite your own face growing warm at the confession. "I wasn't sure if you wanted to choose me."
"Well," You murmured, lifting a finger to his face and running it over the white dots. "I certainly wouldn't mind having you as my mate."
Soul, Body, and all
Tumblr media
Pairing: Neteyam x male Metkayina reader, eldest son of Tonowari ( the chief)
Summary: you, the aloof eldest son to the chief, do ( your unexpected friend) Neteyam’s ceremonial paint and things get intimate.
A/N: idk how to write summarys but hopeful the story makes up for it this is more first time posting so hope yall enjoy :) also I added “lore” just to make it more meaningful. Idk-
There was a comfortable silence that hung over you two. Neteyam sat infront of you his eyes catching every detail of your face. You didn’t know what to say and neither did he. An unspoken bond between you two. You were evasive and slippery you were loved but no one really knew you. The chiefs son was what you were and a great warrior; that’s all the reason your tribe needed to love you. You were adamant on keeping everyone at arms length; you weren’t interested in relationships, even with your siblings. No connections meant no feelings getting in the way of what you believed in. no one could have gotten this close to you but somehow he did.
You traced the structure of his face with white paint sharp and delicate at the same time; he stared as you focused. You place your hand on his shoulder as you got closer you grabbed the yellow paint and outlined his eyes with dots.
“What is the ceremony for?” Neteyam broke the silence
“It’s very spiritual… it allows you to be placed under eywas protection and our protection.” You fingers glided down his neck Neteyam gulped at your touch. “The paint is very important each style is different- they have a unique meaning each of us learn a different technique.”
“What does mine mean?” You pause for a moment coating your hand in pale green paint.
“Kind-hearted. A protector and protected.” You place your hand on his chest you feel his heart beating. “A special soul.” Your painted hand print was left on his chest Neteyam refused to utter a word as if they were jammed in his throat. The wind rushed past you with a whistle and the waves crashed to the shore in a musical pattern.
“Turn around.” You ordered softly now it was your turn to break the silence. He obeyed silently his strong back faced you. Coating your hands once again you place them on his shoulders pushing inward to his shoulder blades replicating that of wings. Your hands halted at his braid.
“Can I?
Neteyam nodded slowly you moved it to the side he shivered as you dotted the outline of his spine.
“The back represents freedom and your choice to look after those around you. A leader. People will follow you anywhere.”
“Will you?” The words slipped through Neteyam’s lips. He cringed at the way it came out like his body reacted on its own ignoring the brain and following his heart. It yearned for you. He failed to figure out how to express it to you and the looming possibility that you didn’t feel the same way terrified him. He couldn’t bare the thought of you slipping through his fingers.
Neteyam’s ears twitched at the way your hands paused. He prepared for the worst. What could you possibly think of an outcast?
“You want me to follow you forever?” You reiterated with a light chuckle; Neteyam flushed he knew it came out wrong. Of course he knew you had your duties you were the chiefs son; you made a promise to your people. He knew all about that; it was him once upon a time. It sounded like he wanted you to run away with him to drop everything and leave.
“I didn’t mean it like that.” Neteyam whipped around catching you by surprise you took notice to the distance between you. The short distance you watch his pleading eyes you could tell he was struggling to find the right words to say.
“I want you by my side and I want to stay by yours.” He explained “you’re the only person that makes me feel okay with never going back home. I want to stay with you.”
“What are you saying?”
In that moment time stopped all you could feel were his soft lips on yours. you weren’t sure what to do you’ve never kissed anyone before- you’ve never been this close to someone before. Neteyam was struggling as well both of you unsure about what to do and how to continue but doing it anyway; eventually you got the hang of it syncing with his movements. You could feel his energy enter you, careful not to touch him with your painted hands you attempted to deepen the kiss you wanted to be closer.
Neteyam understood what you wanted and did it for you basically grabbing your head and pulling you towards him. An unfamiliar feeling erupted in your stomach is this what it felt like? To be kissed? You never thought you would experience it. You seen your parents kiss and other people your age do it;but it never interested you. Now you could see why everyone liked to do it; it was nice you felt connected to him like you could feel what he felt, his senses were yours and the world seemed to melt away.
When you both pulled away everything felt cold by the way Neteyam was looking at you he felt the same way.
“Do you understand what I mean now?” He questioned his voice was gentle. you placed your forehead on his; your eyesight being filled with his deep yellow eyes only. You saw him for who he was and all he could be; you saw his heart and mind, his internal battles and his responsibilities. You unraveled before him he saw you, he knew you and you felt free knowing someone finally understood you.
“Neteyam..” you trailed “I see you.”
His eyes widened at your confession “I see you too.”
Your lips met again you held each other delicately disregarding the paint on your hands. this time there was less of a struggle both of you had somewhat of an idea on how to do it; all that mattered was the way it made both of you feel. He caressed every inch of your skin like he had been waiting an eternity to do so. Every inch he followed as if to memorize your body; your skin burned where ever Neteyams wandering fingertips grazed; every touch felt like fire and you savoured every second of it.
Neteyam embraced your warmth accepting it into his body, he could feel your soul. He silently thanked Eywa for guiding him to you this was her plan all along.
He was the only one for you. There was no one else. He was worth losing everything over and you would die before you gave your heart to another. Though you were young; in your heart you knew Neteyam was yours. Soul, body, and all.
M!reader with a corpse husband like voice
Genre: fluff
Warnings: none? Well except how reader got his deep voice...and a bit ooc
Pronouns: he/him
Ft. Metkayina family & sully family (mostly metkayina)
SLIGHT, neteyam x reader
Tumblr media
Both of your parents was from the metkayina clan and both of them were warriors but they sadly died protecting you and the clan
Ronal and tonowari took you in the family as if you were their son.
You were very happy but you barely talk, not really barely, you never actually talked to them at all.
You had to use hand signs to communicate with them. At first they didn't understand why you never really talked to them but once you "told" them that something happened in the past, they stopped you from saying more since it might be a topic you don't wanna talk about.
Aonung was very protective of you because of that reason, he would always keep an eye or bring you with him whenever he has to go somewhere. He always defend you from others whenever they mention something about you being quite or pestering you on why you were always quite. Not even his friends can tease you, only him can tease you, if someone else does it he will consider it as an insult.
Tsiyera is an angel towards you, she would always keep you company whenever aonung goes hunting. Always and I mean always brings you with her whenever she goes feed the ilus, aonung would always try to find an excuse to get you out of it.
Ronal was the most protective, forbids you from going outside the reef without aonung or Tsiyera. She always do daily check-ups on you. You're sick? She's there. You're injured? She's there. Someone is bullying you? The whole family is there-
Tonowari is in the middle of protectiveness. He will teach you about self defense, spear training,in rare times he lets you go outside the reef with him so he'll teach you about hunting. Yes, he won't let you go outside the reef without someone watching you.
When the sully arrived you were fascinated by how they look, they look more blue rather than teal. The sully noticed you after you pulled aonung by his ear when he tease them about their tail.
Once you heard the news about them living here you were quite excited to be friends with them, you weren't gonna teach them since you're not talkative. But you always follow them to see how they are progressing.
When you first spoke you accidentally hit your toe with a rock and yelled "Ow, that hurts" the gang was there and was completely suprised how your voice sounded. Lo'ak was the first one to break
"bro...YOU VOICE IS SO DEEP-" you giggled at the question he decided to say but the others started talking and questioning you so you were quite overwhelmed by the attention
Tsiyera noticing your discomfort she quickly told everyone to stop. "All of you stop, you are making him feel overwhelmed" everyone soon stopped talking, after they stopped you asked "is it really that deep?"
Aonung scoffed "is it really? Your voice is literally vibrating because of how deep is." Aonung said.
You build up more and more confidence about your voice and started speaking more, the gang was happy for you especially aonung and Tsiyera, they were happy that you started to appreciate your voice more.
Aonung would get so protective whenever you interacted with neteyam, he does not like the heart eyes neteyam would secretly give you whenever you look away.
When you first told them how your voice got so deep all of them screamed from shock.
"wait so the acid of your stomach builded up while you were sleeping and damage your vocal cords and now your voice is stuck like this" neteyam repeated, Tsiyera gasped and quickly went to hug your side "you must've been in so much pain, I'm so sorry you went through that"
You hugged Tsiyera gently and said "it's ok, it's all in the past there's nothing I can do. Besides I sound cool." Aonung put all the dots together and gasped "is that why you're afraid of sleeping, (___)?" You giggled and responded "yes, you and Tsiyera would hum me to sleep and then cuddle-" "SHUT-"
You,aonung,and Tsiyera decided to suprise tonowari and Ronal doing dinner about your voice.
"Baba, can you pass me that fruit" you said acting normal, at first tonowari didn't notice it "of course son, here....wait did you just-" all three of you laughed while Ronal and tonowari looked at you with shock, tonowari asked "how long have you been speaking?" "A few weeks ago baba-" "and you two didn't tell us?" "Wait ma-i told them not to tell that I spoke before because I was afraid you would see me different.."
Ronal softened and told you "my son, no matter how your voice sounds like,how you look,how you act, we will love you either way." She said "but would you care to tell us, why your voice is so deep?" You looked at Tsiyera and aonung as they both nodded, you sighed and told them.
Ronal covered her mouth while tonowari had a look of horror, "I can't believe you had to go through that-does it still hurt?" Ronal asked "a bit ma but I can handle-" "nonsense, I will make some tea to ease the pain" you watched as she quickly stood up and collect some ingredients, tonowari was at your side putting a hand on your shoulder "you are a strong and brave warrior going through the pain like that, I'm proud of you." After that sentence you smiled "thank you baba."
Needless to say the family got even more overprotective-/hj
Neteyam X Male Omaticaya Reader
A/N: I decided to make the sky people attack years later than they did, such as Neteyam already becoming Olo'eyktan. Also, for the sake of the story, your voice is the male version of Ninat.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You were preparing for the celebration of Neteyam being crowned Olo'eyktan. His father Toruk Makto had passed it down to him and you couldn't be any prouder for him. You were intimidated more than anything. You had grown up with Neteyam, his family was used to your presence, and at first, you had seen him as a best friend, just a best friend but, once the two of you passed your Iknimaya those feelings changed. You started noticing how the muscles in his back and shoulders flexed when he pulled back his bowstring or when he went hunting with his knives or riding his Ikran. He wasn't the skinny fifteen-year-old with a crooked goofy smile that you fell in love with. He was a man that had his mother's face but, his father's build. He still had his loving, protective streak and was confident. His confidence is one of the things you love about him besides his heart.
"Y/N! I need some help over here." You were brought out of your musings by your friends who were trying to hang up decorations and failing. They always used you for stuff like that because apparently, you have a 'sleeper build' as Jake had said more than once whatever that meant. Neteyam seemed to have approved so you weren't going to question or deny it.  You talked with them for a bit as you hung up the decoration in between the branches.
"Do you think he is finally going to choose a mate?" You always hated that conversation and normally didn't participate because the idea of Neteyam choosing someone who was not you made you want to cry and vomit. You couldn't handle him being in love with someone else, you wanted him to love you, you wanted to go on hunts together, fall asleep together, cook, and do each other's hair. You wanted to give him all of you from the best to the worse. You've seen him when he was frustrated when he was upset and needed to put down his strong front. It was not fair for someone else to see him vulnerable when he trusted you and only you.
"Maybe he is? Maybe he already chose one and he is just waiting for tonight to make the announcement?" You felt yourself crinkling the decorations so you moved faster to get away from this conversation. Who could he have possibly chosen? He would have told you! At least you think he would have told you anyway, he trusted you, right?
"There are many women and men he can choose from. He is not short of suitors." That was true. That was a fact you couldn't even deny even if you wanted to. He had so many suitors for being Toruk Makto's firstborn, first son, being one of the youngest to complete his Iknimaya, and simply becoming Olo'eyktan. His personality was short of amazing too, always helping whenever he can, going on hunts and leading parties and even teaching and training others. He was very busy and very loved by his people which in your opinion made him the best candidate for becoming a leader. He was born for this, made for it.
"Do you think he would choose a man or a woman?" You weren't entirely sure because he had flings with both men and women, you have both seen him and heard the stories from him. They were always satisfied but, Neteyam never looked satisfied. It was momentary satisfaction but, he always would seem unfulfilled and refused to talk to you about them, always changing the subject. You wish it was you he chose.
"Enough gossiping, Y/N is almost done with all the chatter you guys are doing." You hung up the last banner and turned to see Jake looming over the others who greeted him hastily, apologized, and scattered to set to work. You fondly rolled your eyes turning to face Jake and greeting him with a smile.
"Hi, Jake." His smile seemed to have brightened and you kept in mind to call him by his name from now on when alone. He always seemed happy to be reminded that he was just a single Na'vi and not someone with such a huge title. You probably would be the same if you were him.
"Hi Y/N, you've been working hard I see." The two of you talked for a bit before he handed you two pretty armbands. "Can you bring this to Neteyam for me, please? He needs to wear them for tonight." You nodded your head knowing he was at his home. He had moved out a while ago and was not that far from you. You bidded goodbye to Jake heading towards Neteyam's home climbing the trees fast seeing his home with a private door on it. Stopping in front you knocked waiting patiently for his soft come in and when it did you entered. He glanced over his shoulder smiling when he saw it was you.
"Ah Y/N!" In a blink of an eye, he had wrapped his arms around you in a hug urging you to wrap your arms around his neck in tandem. You both pulled away and he still had an arm around your waist holding you close as he looked down at you with a soft look. "What brings you here? I thought you were busy decorating." You had to fight to concentrate, hyperaware of the muscles on his arm and the fingers that were ghosted above your hip barely any space in between the two of you. This wasn't the first time he did this but, it was just the two of you here, and with your feelings going awry it felt more intimate. You loved it. "Y/N, I asked you a question." He used his free hand to tilt your face up to him as he stared intensely at you making you nervous.
"I-I came to bring you your armbands. Your dad wanted you to wear them." Mercy was granted as he glanced down at your hands before looking back at you much too quickly.
"Put them on for me, yeah?" You swallowed unable to find words as you separated the two armbands and placed one on each arm, adjusting them so that they were tight but, not too tight. Oh, you would kill to be able to sleep on his chest with those arms around you. "Y/N." You glanced back up at him figuring you were caught and your suspicions were confirmed when you saw a smirk on his lips. You rolled your eyes to hide your embarrassment pressing a palm to his chest to push but, he didn't move at all. You found yourself frowning a bit. Strong bastard. Your ears went up when he grabbed your hand on his chest and squeezed it.
"Teyam what-" You were caught off guard by him pressing a kiss to your lips and you let out a noise of shock. He pressed more firmly moving his hand from yours to hold the back of your neck to manipulate you the way he wants. You found yourself melting into the kiss wrapping both hands around his neck to bring him closer and he hummed approvingly. He pulled away first, his eyes dilated and panting softly.
"Fuck, I wanted to do that for so long." You blinked up at him before pressing your face into his chest to hide. You felt him chuckle as he moved both arms down to your waist. "You're so cute, I always noticed the way you looked at me, the way you took care of me and were there for me ever since we were kids." You said nothing, choosing to listen to this sudden confession. It was as if your dreams were coming true. "I wanted to be good enough for you, I wanted to accomplish everything so you can be proud of me. It was always your eyes I seek, your approval I wanted." You found yourself blinking looking up at him to see him looking down at you with a serene smile.
"You've always been perfect to me, even when you thought you weren't. You've always been enough for me." He blinked letting out a breathy laugh and pressing your foreheads together inhaling each other's scent. This was everything you've wanted, and been dreaming of for years.
"After the ceremony, let's go to the tree of voices...I wanted you for so long, I need to have you for the rest of my life." You blinked in shock looking back up at him. "I am not changing my mind, I've been patient enough, I know you want me as much as I want you. I choose you ma Y/N." You felt your eyes dilate in tandem with his at those words
"As I choose you ma Teyam."
Dual Love - Neteyam x Ao’nung x Male! Metkayina! Reader
I had a blast with this request and wanted to say thank you for requesting, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it.
CIS Women and Female Aligned people, please DNI, this story and all of my others are for non-binary, masculine aligned and male readers!
As a Metkayina, I’m no stranger to the clan leader and his family. Especially his children, Tsireya and Ao’nung. I had always grown up playing with them, Ao’nung more than Tsireya as she was usually training to be the next Tsahik with her mother. As a close friend to the siblings, I was almost adopted by their parents, seen as somewhat of another son to them. Of course they’d never try to take me from my parents, but there always was a second home for me with them.
When the forest people came to us, it was a shock to us all, and while I wasn’t one of their children, Tonowari and Ronal assigned me to assist them with their adjustment to our lifestyle. The forest people had many children themselves, and being assigned to them, I learned their names rather quickly. Kiri was the most stand-off ish to me, preferring to connect to the elements or perhaps Eywa. Tuk was the only other girl, she was rather nice and full of life, regressing young energy.
Neteyam and Lo’ak were the only boys, as such, I was essentially given an extra special role of making sure that Ao’nung didn’t do anything stupid when teaching them. Sure he can be responsible, but he can also be crass and rude, especially when it comes to new people he could bully.
“C’mon, we’re gonna try to hold our breath again, remember what we taught you. Breath deep from here, and slowly release it when you’re underwater.” I rubbed my hand gently across Neteyam’s stomach, showing where he needed to try breathing from again. He was getting better at it, as was Lo’ak, but it seemed the older one was making more progress than his younger brother. Tsireya and Ao’nung were off to the side, showing them how to do it as well, also helping Kiri and Tuk get a hang of it.
“I think I got the hang of this.” Neteyam said while trying to keep his voice down for some reason. I looked into his eyes only to see him turn his head quickly. I was confused but paid it no mind, returning to help Lo’ak with his breathing placement. From behind me I could almost hear a hiss from Neteyam, still paying it no mind I guided the brothers to the water to try again for a longer time. Diving into the water gracefully I spun around to watch them attempt to dive with me. Cue their balled jumps into the water, and me silently giggling underwater at how childish they were.
“Let’s try again.” Tsireya spoke to the girls she and Ao’nung were instructing. Ao’nung gave me a look when he saw how close Neteyam was to me, Al thought given his attitude to all the newcomers, I expected it. He’s not a fan of big changes, and teaching many Omatikaya how to be Metkayina was something he definitely didn’t want. We all swam into a loose circle together, Tsireya, Ao’nung and I all counted down from 3 to have them all take deep breaths before sinking underwater. Once under I noticed that Tuk had breathed in poorly and wasn’t gonna last long, tapping her and pointing up to have her surface. She followed the direction and I continued to watch the other three forest people. Kiri quit next, almost out of boredom it seemed. As the three used to being underwater, the siblings and I had no problem watching the last two Sully children attempt to hold their breath.
“They’re lasting a lot longer than before, good job (y/n).” Tsireya signed to me as I nodded and thanked her while the two brothers looked at us confused.
“I forgot we still need to teach them sign, this is gonna be worse than taming a skimwing.” Ao’nung signed to us, making all three of us realize it was gonna be a hard task to teach them another language. Glancing over to the brothers right as Lo’ak quit and surfaced for air, leaving only Neteyam left. I made a note to compliment him once he could understand what I’m saying. Another few minutes go by before he starts to choke on the water, surfacing immediately. Following him, the three of us surfaced as well and made our way back to the shore.
“That was very good for all of you, Tuk I want to work with you more later to figure out breathing styles. Kiri….is not here anymore, where did she go? Anyways, Lo’ak and Neteyam, also very good job to you two, I’ll help you both out with holding the air for longer and releasing it slower.” The three Sully’s that were left nodded and gave noises of agreement or acceptance to my words.
“It’s been awhile since we started, we should take a break.” Tsireya butted in before I was about to start helping Tuk, but realized we had been working for a good bit of time by now.
“You’re right, I’ll be back in my Marui, let me know if we start training again.” I started to head back to the village and where I had settled myself amongst my people.
“(Y/n), I need to talk to you.” Ao’nung came walking into the Marui and sitting right in front of me.
“Okay, can I help you?” He took a very deep breath and a second to collect his thoughts.
“Why are you so nice to the forest people?” I was confused by his question.
“We’re teaching them, it’s not like I should be a rude teacher just because they’re different from us. Why do you ask?” Ao’nung was almost taken aback by my answer, I guess he wasn’t expecting such a genuine answer.
“I guess you’re right, but I don’t think you should be around Neteyam so much, he gives me a strange feeling.” I sighed at what he said, of course it was him being protective, he always had been like this about me.
“Ao’nung, I know you’re protective of me, but I promise you, he’s fine, and I can defend myself if I need to, no need to protect me.” His cheeks brightened at my words and he turned his head away from me so I couldn’t see it.
“If you say so, but I warned you.” He stood up and left my Marui, leaving me to go back to what I was doing before.
Over the next few weeks, the three of us had managed to teach all the Sully children how to hold their breath underwater, to dive properly and deeply, hunt and harvest, and even how to ride the Liu’s. Neteyam and Ao’nung bickering never ceased, there was always some way they but heads or it seemed like a silent hatred for each other. At some points it almost seemed as though they were interested in each other because of how they acted with one another. I never paid either mind when they fought like children, but I did grow rather fond of Neteyam in the time I’d taught him. I’ve always had a quiet liking to Ao’nung, something I’ve experienced since I was a young boy and played with him in the shallows. While I developed a crush of sorts on Neteyam, the one for Ao’nung only seemed to strengthen. I loved them both as much as the other, but for the sake of both friendships I kept my feelings to myself.
We had just finished training the Sully boys again with hunting on Lius when I retreated to my Marui for a late meal and sleep. Not even a few minutes into cutting up the fish I found earlier, I could hear the two of them bickering on one of the pathways near my home. Once again, I paid them no mind, until the sounds got louder and louder and suddenly they were standing in front of me.
“Why don’t you just leave and go back to the forest, you’re clearly better off there.” Ao’nung almost shouted at Neteyam, who quickly made a comeback.
“Maybe you should try to swing and run in the forest, I’m sure you’d suffer there a lot more than we have here.” Just before Ao’nung retorted I stood up and put a hand on both their mouths.
“What do you both want and why are you arguing in my Marui?” I was mildly pissed off at how they just openly did such a thing while everyone in the village could hear them. They simultaneously responded with a jumbled mix of excuses and the word confession was thrown around a few times. “Enough, both of you, Neteyam, you first.” He nodded and began speaking.
“I was headed here to confess something to you, and ran into him, he started the argument.” I gave Ao’nung a look and he glanced down at his feet to avoid my gaze.
“Ao’nung, your turn.” He nodded and was more quiet in his tone than he was earlier.
“I also was on my way to confess to you when I saw this scown and had to say something about what he was doing.” Before they could start bickering again I slapped a hand over their mouths.
“Boys, if you can’t be nice, you both have to leave, now, I’m gonna move my hand, and you tell me what you wanted to confess, both of you.” I got grunts of agreement and so I moved my hands.
“I like you and want you to be my mate.” They both said in almost perfect unison, shocked looks took over their expressions as they realized they were here for the same reason. I giggled in response, not entirely sure how to react.
“Well, I like both of you as well, and it may not be traditional, and it will be very difficult, we can all be each other's mates.” They seemed to be almost pleased with my response, not too sure about how to handle being mates with their enemy, but for me, they were more than willing to make it work. Now I just had to talk to their parents and tell them about everything.
healing scars (male reader!!)
Tumblr media
(Slight neteyam x male reader, read part 2 not proofread lamo.)
y/n was deep asleep when one of the younger members of the tribe woke him up. “y/n get up they are forest na’vi”  the small girl tried dragging the older na’vi. “Fine, fine im up” his voice was barely above a whisper, still waking up. After a small walk they were meted with 6 darker na’vi. There was Ao'nung with his friend Roxto, picking on them because of their tail. y/n walked over to Ao'nung and grabbed his ear, slightly kicked his knees. He was in a kneeling position, “Ao' Nung! apologize immediately.” “y/n! Why are you defending strangers?” “Even if they are strangers, they deserve respect.” you pinched his ear, “now apologize.” his ear where y/ns hand was pinching was becoming slightly red. “I'm sorry” his voice was barely a whisper. “I'll finish dealing with the both of you later,” y/ns e/c eyed was glaring at Roxto.
“Now, who are you?” his attention now at the unknown na’vi in front of him. “I'm Jake Sully, this is my family. Neytiri, neteyam, lo’ak, kiri, Tuktirey” the name was familiar in y/ns head “ the Toruk Makto? The great warrior neytiri? What brings you here?” Ronal and tonowari were now there. While jake and tonowari were talking i walked closer to the kids inspecting them. Suddenly Ronal grabbed one of the girls' hands, “they have demon blood!their not even real na’vi”
y/n looked at the girl's hand before she pulled her hand back from ronal. “Show me your hand.” she told one of the boys, he obeyed. “Ronal, there is no reason to do this. They are already humiliated enough.” y/n was looking down into ronals eyes. She glared back, reluctantly letting go of the boy's hand. She then started making her way to tonowari. “Are you guys okay?” y/n again at a whisper. The boy nodded while the girl scoffed. In Front of them are the two mothers, one hissing the other arguing back. Jake apologized for her behavior. i walked back up to the front holding up Jake's hand. “You were once human right?” he nodded a couple of times, “that explains the children” i announced, hopefully to lift some tenison. The littlest one poked at my leg, the cyan na’vi squatted to be eyes level with her. “Yes?” his voice now at a normal tone, “what happened to your back?” the mother quickly interrupted “tuk! Don't ask questions like that.” “It's okay miss, let's see what they decide first.” he turned his face, smiling, to face the leaders of the tribe.
They both looked at y/n with a somewhat concerned face, he nodded.  And that was it. They were officially accepted, as long as they didnt bring war and learn the way of water which me, Ao'nung, Tsireya and Roxto would help.
“Here I'll show you your pod. Where you'll be living.” y/n was in front of the family leading them, some kids tried to say hi, before they could their mothers snatched them away. Neytiri dropped a rug, a heavy thud was heard. Y/n started chuckling, “that's how i was when i was first accepted too,” “you aren't native Metkayina?”  He shook his head to the left and right. “I'll come collect you guys tomorrow so we can start training, good night,” with that the sully family was left alone.
Next week
(still teaching him how to dive.)
y/n knocked on the side of the pods. “You guys ready?” some hummed others nodded but Tuktirey's tail clinged onto the back of y/n's leg. y/n giggled cute he thought to himself. Finally reached the shore where Roxto, Ao'nung and Tsireya were. Y/n quickly saw how lo’ak was looking at tsireya, vice versa.
 After practicing diving to see how far they can go. y/n brought up breaking into pairs. Roxto with tuk, tsireya with lo’ak, Ao’nung. Leaving y/n with neteyam. “The way of water has no beginning and no end. The sea is around you and in you. The sea is your home before your birth and after your death. Our hearts beat in the womb of the world. Our breath burns in the shadows of the deep. The sea gives and the sea takes. Water connects all things, life to death. Darkness to light.” was whispering to netayam. To somehow calm him. “You have to breathe slower, to expand your lungs.” y/n reminding him, “breathe here. Not your lungs.” y/n was now holding neteyams stomach. The darker na’vi stared into the lighter ones eye. y/n cleared his throat, ‘’here try diving again expert you'll have to catch something’’ y/n slowly took off a necklace, it had some beads, a couple shells, small rocks and at the heart of the string was a glowy dark blue oval rock. “It's a small things i've collected over the years of traveling. Though I have a bigger collection in my pod.” he gave neteyam the necklace to inspect, remembering the patterns, he saw a familiar bead on the left side of the dark blue rock. “Have you been in the forest before or near the Omaticaya clan?” “yes but that was my first venture, I should go back one day.” smiling to himself remembering the memorious. “Thats where im from” neteyam was pointing at himself. “I know,” neteyam brows are knitted. “” Why didn't you say something earlier?” “Your mother seems to be going through homesickness. What good is it to bring it up?” The cyan na’vi was looking at the necklace before slowly lifting up his head to look at the darker na’vi. While neteyam was looking at y/n he barely noticed y/n throwing the necklace into the ocean.
“I wasn't ready!” as he dived in.
“Only losers say that!”
After a while y/n started to worry a bit. He didn't throw it that far right? Right? While deep into thought. The forest na’vi was seen behind the reef na’vi. Slowly creeping up, like a predator looking at its prey. He jumped from the ocean onto y/n, necklace on his neck. Y/n startled bucked his head into the ‘unknown thing’ quickly taking his fishing knife out of his waistband. Slightly cutting the younger na’vis neck. “Neteyam do not scare me like that!” his voice was laced with worry. Y/n quickly put his hand onto the boy's cut, calling any ilu. He took the boy's hand. “Here sit” they were now in y/ns marui/pod.
“Keep pressure on it.” the boy somewhat shouted while digging in a box. He quickly sat on his knees on the side of neteyam. “This might sting a bit.” y/n slowly moved the boy's hand off of his throat. Without noticing y/n didn't move when neteyam held onto his hand while applying salve onto his neck. He didn't move even after nettayam flinched feeling the cold product on his open wound.
“ What were you thinking?! I could have seriously hurted you!”
“Im sorry y/n”
“Don't do that again net” “net? I have a nickname?" "You do now, honoring your almost death by the hands of me!” y/n wasn't actually angered but worried. What would've of y/n killed him? How would he explain himself to his parents?
“Your parents! Oh my ewya. Your parents! What am I going to tell them? ‘Sorry I almost slitted your son's throat!! First impressions matter, dear erwya please guide me to not die of embarrassment—” y/n was cut off by neteyam “my parents already like you, you stood up for us when we first arrived." there was a silence. “I'll walk you home it's almost eclipse, i guess ill try to explain to your parents.” y/n slapped the back of his head, just as i reminder to not sneak up on him again.
   While walking neteyam's tail stuck to y/n's leg just like tuk did. “You sister does the same thing,” y/n then placed his hand carefully on the other's tail. Taken aback neteyam tail quickly left y/n's hand and started swaying back and forth. y/n laughed at the reaction. “Hey I'm sorry if he is out after curfew there was an uhm accident” y/ns head was looking at the sand by jakesullys feet. “What happened?” Neytiri was quick to inspect both of us. She quickly noticed the small cut on his neck. “I was teaching him how to dive, and he had caught me off guard. Off instinct i had accidently cut... His throat I'm sorry.” he had finally mustered up the courage to look up at Neytiri. “When you wake up you should put this on again, also you shouldn't show up to lesson tomorrow salt water would only infect it.” y/n gave a bag filled with the slave he had used earlier. y/n started to walk into the direction of his marui. “y/n!” neteyam called out. “Hm?” “Your necklace,” he looked behind him, facing the marui. “You can have, as a token of asking of forgiveness”
neteyam & lo'ak x male reader headcannons!
╭── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╮
neteyam;
he would be one of those guys that always says boyfriend because he thinks its pretty
like he'd introduce you by saying "this is y/n, my boyfriend!" all happy
he would want to take care of you since thats what hes used to
if you take care of him he'd be really awkward at first
he probably would invite tuk to go hang out with you two because he loved that you guys got along
lo'ak would starting treating you different, calling you bro and messing with you all the time
neytiri would act like you were another son and jake would try to get you to go on hunts with him and the others to bond
kiri would always make fun of you guys for cuddling and stuff like roll her eyes or gag
he would really like putting his arms around you, holding your hand, lifting you up or any physical touch
ESPECIALLY in public
if you got hurt he wouldn't leave your side, probably sending lo'ak to get things you needed
lo'ak;
he would be really scared of calling you his boyfriend at first, but then he wouldn't stop
if anyone said anything to him about being gay in a negative way he'd get defensive and aggressive but if you were around he would try to ignore it
he wouldn't invite tuk but she'd always tag along anyways
neytiri and jake would be very loving, like they would with any of their childrens partners
neteyam and kiri would always try to embarrass lo'ak in front of you, tell embarrassing childhood stories or scare him
lo'ak really likes playing with your tail and hair if your talking to someone or busy
he isn't too possessive and he would just laugh if a girl asked you out, if it were a guy he'd probably try to seem all big and tough
if you got hurt he'd make tuk get you thing while he sat with you
ᴘᴀɪʀɪɴɢ: jake sully x male reader (+sully family)
Tumblr media
ꜱᴜᴍᴍᴀʀʏ: There were many struggles that came with fatherhood—you must find a solution for each one.
ᴀɴᴏɴ: jake and reader are like the dads of the sully children, basically the sully's having gay dads??
ʀᴇ𝐐: yes ~ ᴡᴏʀᴅ ᴄᴏᴜɴᴛ: 6565
ᴡᴀʀɴɪɴɢꜱ: mentions of death (lighthearted) never happens tho, swearing, much worrying about children, surrogate neytiri referring to your kids as hers too (idk just in case)
Tumblr media
ᴍᴀʏʙ'ꜱ ɴᴏᴛᴇ: so. i've got a lot of things to say. that's why i'm putting a second a/n at the bottom. - two gays cannot have an avatar child if they can't have children therefore surrogate Neytiri <3 - my first attempt at writing a full sentence in Na'vi, y'all are probably not fluent in it but i hope it's correct. - regrettably, there's only one scene with Tuk and only one mention of Spider - less about the relationship between jake and reader, more about the children
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Neteyam was a blessing.
Him and Neytiri both.
When she agreed to be a surrogate for your children, you were both over the moon, over each of the three of Eywa'eveng.
Neytiri knew it best, the stress of having a child. Though it was all her, her body, her belly, her birthing, you and Jake stuck to her side and stressed with her. You could see her pain, in her eyes, and Jake said he felt it himself.
The musings did not help Neytiri through the pain.
Omatikaya welcoming ceremonies consisted of everyone in the village, close family, friends, acquaintances, everyone rounded up to welcome the newborn. But this one was special, for there was one mother and two fathers. Strange as it may have been, the three of you knew there'd be plenty more to come.
When Jake held him up towards the sky, calling the name, "Neteyam", you knew the name truly belonged to him, even if the newborn had yet developed characteristic traits.
The first year was not pretty. If it weren't for Mo'at and Neytiri–and thought it may be harsh, it is the truth–Neteyam would probably be dead.
Jake always knew there was a thing with babies. They didn't have a sense of danger. On Earth, some of the deadliest stuff they could find was a fork and an outlet. On Pandora, however, there were much worse things.
He was aware of this, both of you were, of the Hammerheads, Thanators, Viperwolves that each posed a dangerous threat to your child. Even herbivores, like Flathead Rams, could trample over your baby like he was nothing. He couldn't roam, either, for he didn't know the difference between a poisonous plant and a safe one, and the differences were scarce. Not to mention, they grew close to the ground. Even the carnivorous plants were huge enough to swallow him whole.
So you both watched him, most of the time.
When the hunt called, however, it was only one of you. You took turns.
Why? Because the mighty Toruk Makto, Olo'eyktan of the Omatikaya, once war chief of three tribes at once, was not exempt from taking care of the baby.
Besides, he kind of liked it. He liked looking at his boy, knowing that in all ways except biological, Neteyam was his.
He loved when the little baby wrapped his four little blue fingers around one of his five large ones. He was so tiny, so defenseless. He had to take care of him. Couldn't let him out of his sight.
He was also so, so cute.
Neteyam lets out a little yawn, stretching all his limbs except for the hand holding his father's finger.
"Aww," Jake coos. "dinner's in a bit. The game's not even here yet. You can sleep."
As time passes, and Neteyam drifts off in his father's warm, large arms that encompassed him, Jake gets lost in the sight and his thoughts. Neteyam was his child. He never thought he'd have one.
He doesn't register the sound of you propping your bow up on the wall, or your footsteps, or a portion of the fresh hunt being placed next to the fire.
In fact, he doesn't really notice you at all until you sit next to him.
You wrap your arms around him, one around his back, the other around his stomach below his arms and Neteyam, and settle your head into the crook of his neck.
Jake laughs lowly, your nose against his neck's skin slightly ticklish—he didn't think the Na'vi were ticklish, hadn't learned it until he was victim to your fingers. "Kxì, my love. Tired?"
"Ngenga pllertxe fura tawtute lì'fya... ‘Ìnglìsì. Tìftang si." (You're speaking that sky people language... English. Stop it.)
Ever since the first time, he's memorized the words, therefore knows their meaning. "You know I don't speak Na'vi well. Right? Or are you too tired to remember?"
"Perfectly conscious enough to remember." You laugh lazily, "Just love to tease you."
Jake presses the side of his head against the top of yours, the best affection he can offer with Neteyam in his arms. "Zola‘u nìprrte’. Happy?"
"Yes."
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Where Neteyam was yours, Lo'ak was Jake's.
But first, came the unexpected Kiri. A month after Neytiri affirmed that she would have your second child, Norm and Max called with a panic.
One morning, as bored eyes strayed from scientific screens and microscopes, Norm discovered a bump on Grace's avatar's body. There were many theories, but each was discredited. The tank was safe, you were all sure, even if you did not know anything of the amniotic fluid within it. It wasn't scratched, didn't show any signs of opening, it displayed nothing at all. So what could be the cause?
The answer went unanswered for another two months. Until, at the third month, Norm realized that the size lined up with that of a human pregnancy. It was already the size of a seven month old baby bump. Which meant... soon enough, the vacant avatar would be having a baby.
There was hardly a discussion of who would raise it. Jake knew that he was indebted to Grace, that even though he had yet another child on the way, whatever came of Grace's avatar was his to take care of.
Kiri was born first. Lo'ak was soon to be on his way. However, the season for the first communion with Eywa was approaching. Though having the three of them commune with the Great Mother at the same time would be wonderful, the first communion was not to be delayed.
While Jake helped Neteyam attach his queue to the Tree of Souls, you helped Kiri.
Her eyes, her smile, toothless even, her dilated pupils... She was elated. She was so happy, and you mirrored her smile too.
This wasn't your kid, wasn't Jake's either, but you would raise her as one of your own.
Lo'ak and Kiri... they both came out with five fingers and little eyebrows. It was a scary thing, to have children that looked different from everyone else. Jake knew that, with an Avatar body, it was possible. Seeing it himself, though...
Neteyam, being oldest, required a little less care. He slept by himself at his crib. The newborns slept with you whilst the two of you waited for Neytiri's hunt.
Lo'ak was cuddled up in his father's arms, Kiri in yours. Her fingers were wrapped around your smallest finger, what Jake would call his ring finger. "Five fingers.." You muttered to yourself. You'd counted them many times over.
Jake hears you. "And eyebrows."
"Just like you." You muse with a laugh. Jake laughs along too, but you notice the difference; his laugh lacks its usual humor.
"What is it?" You ask, concerned lace with his words like the weaving of a necklace.
"Nothing." He shakes his head. He couldn't worry you, especially because he wasn't even sure if these five fingers and eyebrows would make any difference.
"I can tell there's something." You remain stubborn, scooting even closer to him. It was one of the qualities he actually loved about you, as annoying as it could be. "You can't evade me, darling."
"Darling? You picked up the word?"
"Jake." You're deflecting.
"I know." He sighs, "I know. It's just... They're different, Kiri and Lo'ak, different from others their age. It's not something I want for them."
"You think it'll affect the way they are treated?"
"Yes."
"Darling." You repeat the pet name more stern now, calling for his attention. He lifts his gaze from his baby boy to meet your eyes. They're yellow, they're golden, just like his. "You were different. But now you are not. You're Olo'eyktan, one of the us; one of the people, one of the Omatikaya. These children are yours, and they are mine. They are part of the Omatikaya."
"But they–"
"Extra fingers, extra hair on their face. The eyebrows are expressive, lovely. The fingers are good, help with dexterity." You tilt your head forward, "They will be fine."
Just as the same as he yearns to hold you, he wishes he believed you. For now, however, he settles on your only point of contact being your lips, and his assured belief about these children being that you and he would love them to the ends of the Earth.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
The differences meant nothing to Jake, there would be no change in the way he treated them. Soon enough, he'd sort of forgotten, for the most part.
What couldn't be forgotten, though, were his Olo'eyktan duties.
The problem was, you were gone for a little while. The second problem was, Neytiri was taking care of Neteyam. Now that didn't quiet seem like a problem, but she was taking care of him before you left and before he realized he had important Olo'eyktan stuff to do. He couldn't just bother Neytiri to take care of his kids! The third problem was, they were his kids! He couldn't just leave them. They were hardly two months old.
So now, he was left with a dilemma. Baby carriers.
For humans, it was a little embarrassing to, as a father, be wearing one of them. But to the Na'vi, it was just another part of life, a necessity.
Jake was a Na'vi now. He had to get over human societal norms.
"Hanging in there, baby girl?" Jake asks Kiri–as if she can understand him–who unfortunately has to take the tight space on his back.
After getting the silent answer he was expecting, Jake begins his work. As expected, no Na'vi seem to pay him any mind. They greet him just the same as any other day, the only difference being the small coos directed at his children. He's just happy they love them.
As Jake checks his daughter is safe on his back for the umpteenth time, he hears something wrong.
Click.
He stares ahead, obviously disturbed. His eyebrow furrows as he finds the camera, with a diminishing flash, being held by the scientist he regrettably called a friend.
"Norm, don't you have shit to do?" The swear word doesn't faze him, for the babies were too young to even register the word.
The scientist adjusts his exopack over his shit-eating grin. "Research, Jake." He gives off a hint as his amusement with each word he speaks, "I’m capturing the Mighty Toruk Makto in his natural form. Which is adorable." He winks.
"Uh-huh." Jake replies; contrasting his friend, he remains unamused. "Kiss the dark side of my blue–" Out of the corner of his eye, he spots Mo'at. Shit, Mo'at. She knew English and he needed to talk to her.
"You are a lucky man, Norm." Jake turns on his heels, leaving Norm behind as he heads towards the Tsahìk.
When he does so, though, Kiri turns her head as much as she can to stare at the human scientist curiously. Norm takes the opportunity.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Lo'ak and Kiri were, relative to their brother, the same age. They also looked the most like each other, excluding their father. They both had the characteristic traits of an avatar, traits that set them apart from the rest of the clan. Because of this, you thought they'd be inseparable, best friends. Instead, they fought, and fought, and fought.
It was weird, even, that Kiri often sought out her older brother's company over her baby brother's.
These peculiarities' origins, however, were solved when you realized the common point of these arguments. Lo'ak. Lo'ak was a troublesome kid in that he loved freedom, and even more, loved to be possessive.
Within seven years, many things were taught. Jake, for one, learned much of the Na'vi language. In fact, it was practically English to him. Sometimes he forgot what language he began the sentence with, and he would end up starting with Na'vi and ending with English or mixing in a couple words in the middle.
As far as the kids were concerned, it was gibberish. At least, for a couple years. After they dominated the Na'vi language well enough, they began to learn English. Their main teacher was their father, not their sempu, so when things like this happened...
"I hate you times infinity, Lo'ak! Penis face!"
It was his fault.
After the kids' argument was swiftly dealt with (the toy had to be threatened to be cut in half, and then they stopped), Jake places the toy in Kiri's hands. "Kid, go find your brother." He sighs, "You can play with him."
"I don't wanna play with him." Lo'ak crosses his arms, stomping his foot. "He's a sucker."
"Hey, now, that's not a good thing to say about your brother." Jake presses a harsh finger against his son's shoulder. "What would Neteyam think?"
"It's true! And he needs to know it!"
"If your sempu was here, you'd be–"
"Sempu's here." You call. The kids didn't really realize you heard the beginning of what Jake was going to say. Instead, they run to hug you. Kiri drops the much beloved toy they so desperately wanted earlier, in favor of wrapping her arms around your waist.
You scoop each of them up, each held by one strong arm. Even so, knowing that the position is weak, they steady themselves by wrapping their small limbs as far around you as they can. "Now, what was it that you needed me for?"
"Nothing, sempu." Kiri shakes her head, pressing her head against your shoulder. "Just a little dispute."
"Yes. A dispute." Lo'ak agrees with the wide nod of his head, though he pronounces the word much worse than Kiri does. Seems he slacked off on their latest English lessons and somehow ignored the word "penis" that Kiri vividly recalls.
"Ooh, dispute? Where'd you learn that big word, huh?" You coo, rubbing your nose into her hair. She laughs at the feeling, it's almost ticklish.
"Dad." She replies simply.
"Yeah, well, they also managed to learn the word "penis" from me." While you gawk dramatically at your children, Jake sticks his tongue out at them just as childishly. Little suck ups. He mouths.
Lo'ak sticks his tongue back out at his own father, to which you slap him gently on the hip. "What situation requires that," You think of a suitably negative word , uglily scrunching up your nose so that the children can have something to laugh at. "despicable word?"
"Lo'ak," Kiri is quick to tell, "was trying to steal my toy!"
"No I wasn't!" Lo'ak huffs. If he were on the ground, he'd have stumped his feet. Instead, they kick the air.
"Yes you were!" She retorts.
"Which one, the one so sadly on the floor?"
At the mention of its position, they both turn their gazes towards it. Kiri dares to mutter a little "uh-oh" as her eyes find it. Whilst they are distracted by the dread building up in their bodies, you look to Jake. Go find Neteyam. I'll deal with these two.
Silently, he nods, and slips away while the children begin to make up excuses. As he walks down the river bank, he hears a shout from the house. "You're a big fat liar!"
If memory served right, Neteyam wanted to visit Neytiri. Out of all of their kids, he took to her the most.
A part of him, at the back of his mind, wonders how all his children will react once they learn who their mother is.
He doesn't indulge in the thought. Instead, he focuses on the task ahead. The path from his home to Neytiri's was one he memorized, and he made sure when he built his home that it wouldn't be a long distance.
He doesn't expect to find the two of them, Neteyam and Neytiri, outside of the house. Neither does he expect his son to be so vigorously training even after training hours.
"That's it. Remember your stance." Neytiri advises Neteyam, patting his shoulder. "You're doing great."
"Hey!" Jake greets the two. The sudden call surprises Neteyam, which makes his shot fly off to the side.
The boy frowns, but his lips soon lift as he turns to greet his father. "Hi dad."
"Hello, my son." He nods. His smile turns a little more stern as he turns to Neytiri. "Hello, auntie Tiri. What's going on?"
Neytiri opens her mouth to speak, but Neteyam taps her thigh and mouths a little something. It's not hard to read his lips, nor had he tried to hid it so hard, but Jake looks away out of respect.
Auntie Tiri nods and looks back up to Jake, "I figured he needed some practice."
"He practiced this morning."
"I know." She raises one hand up in surrender, "Practice makes perfect." She ruffles Neteyam's hair. Though coming from his dad it was annoying, it is apparently endearing coming from his aunt. "Could I talk to you in the house?"
"Of course."
She hardly waits for him to reply before she pats Neteyam on the head again and says, "I'll be right back, keep practicing."
Neteyam nods excitedly. However, Jake stops him. "No, put that down." It dampens his son's spirits, but he nods. Both of them know that something could go wrong if Neteyam practices unsupervised.
Neytiri rolls her eyes, but doesn't protest. Instead, she heads inside, Jake close behind.
"What is it that–"
"Your son, our kid, " She begins with firmness. "he came to me asking me to help him improve."
"What? He's only seven." Jake reasons, "Why would he?"
"He's your oldest." She replies simply. "Your heir, the next Olo'eyktan. There's a lot of pressure that comes with that." She spoke with experience. Between you, him, and her, she had so much more experience. He wonders sometimes how they've come to this arrangement, if she could be a better mom than he, a dad.
"Yeah… I know. But I don't give him any pressure. I make sure of it." Does he really? Are each of his words premeditated, thought out?
"He's only a year older than Lo'ak and Kiri, but he already has it ingrained in him that he has to protect them." Neytiri crosses her arms, giving him a pointed look, "Like you said, he's seven. He still deserves to be hugged and kissed."
"I try to."
"You try to?"
"It's hard when, you know…" He sighs, "your parents coddled your brother more than you."
She purses her lips, thinks it over. "I may not know about you and your brother," She begins on a lighter note. "but I know that you can relate your experiences with him with our children, your sons. At least you know what not to do. Just make sure they know you love them, and that they are still children that should play, while you still can."
"Yeah." He nods, "I will."
☾⋆☆⋆☽
The children played with each other, for once not beckoning their parents into play or sparking arguments between each other.
So for the first time in a long time, you had some moments of peace.
"He reminds me a lot of Neytiri, Neteyam." You spoke in a hushed voice, wary of their young ears.
"How so?" Jake squeezes your shoulder, his arm wrapped around it.
"His smile. It's a lot like hers. Toothy, isn't it?" He was smiling right now. Though it didn't compare to some of his biggest moments of joy, his smile still displayed his growing teeth. It was adorable.
He only has to think of it for a moment before agreeing, "Yeah."
"He's good with his bow. Don't doubt that he'll make a great hunter one day. And his love for Ikran..." Your face lights up at the memories, "even though he doesn't have one."
"About that, love..." Jake begins solemnly.
You turn to him, away from your playing children, at his serious tone. "What is it?"
"Neteyam," He glances over at the boy. Thankfully, he hadn't heard him speak his name. He lowers his voice and continues, "Neytiri told me he's been trying to get better at using a bow."
"Hm, well, he's probably trying to impress us."
"And that he wanted to protect his siblings. He feels," He purses his lips, "like its his responsibility. It's what he worries about."
"Does he?" You huff, "He has asked a lot lately, about the dangers of the jungle. I thought he just wanted to look out for himself, but now that I think about it..."
"He wanted to know so that he could keep his siblings safe." Jake finishes for you.
"Hey, I wanted to play with it!"
"I had it first!"
Before either of you can act, Neteyam stands first. He gives you only the smallest of glances before pushing his siblings away from each other.
"What? Hey!" Lo'ak shouts.
"Go away, Neteyam!" Kiri struggles against her brother's hold.
At his sudden interference, the toy falls to the ground. Neteyam kicks it to his feet. "Stop fighting!" He hisses at the both of them, making them falter. "It's either one or the other. Got that? You can take turns."
"Me first!" The children scream simultaneously, Kiri finishes her sentence first by a millisecond.
"Ugh." Lo'ak groans, but he begrudgingly kicks the toy in her direction. "Fine, you can have it first. But you get ten minutes!"
Kiri grins, picking up the toy, "That's good enough."
With the argument over, Neteyam smiles. He turns back towards his own toy, but not before sparing a not so subtle glance in your direction. Seeing your encouraging smiles, his own grows larger.
"He didn't need to do that."
Jake nods, "But he did, anyway."
"You're right." You shake your head with a sigh, "We should wait for the right moment to tell him."
☾⋆☆⋆☽
That moment doesn't take long.
Lo'ak had grown restless at home, and even more at the village, so he proposed one thing: to let him and his siblings explore the jungle. It wasn't a surprising proposal, you'd allowed them to do so many times before. Neteyam, Kiri, and Lo'ak often explored the jungle; so, you allowed it without a thought.
The jungle was a beautiful place, one you were proud to call home, so you were happy that your children were falling in love with it too.
However, as curfew grows closer and your children do not return yet, your worry begins to grow.
The children had shown time and time again that they knew curfew, knew the way home, knew to come back safely. You trusted them to come back.
Your rapidly growing concern and restlessness burst, and you must find them yourself. As much as Jake had reassured you, as much as you wanted to trust them, something was clearly wrong. You had to find them.
As you mount your ikran, though, they emerge from the tree line.
Neteyam and Lo'ak prop Kiri up, helping her walk. They've got her arms around their shoulders. Together, the three of them, they're mismatched. Lo'ak wishes to run, Neteyam doesn't want to injure Kiri further, and she is weak.
You're quick to whisk Kiri up and bring her inside, whilst Jake grabs a hold of his sons and brings them in too.
You place Kiri down on your hammock, "Where does it hurt?"
"My side." She yells back, her eyes spilling fresh tears. She was scratched up everywhere, from her arms to her knees, but the most concerning gash was on her side. It was a long cut, spanning from her belly button to her chest.
"I got you, baby girl." You assure.
While you rush to patch up Kiri, Jake squats in front of his sons and questions them. "What happened?"
Neither boy wishes to speak, but between the two of them, the culprit is clear. Still, he knows that he has to wait for them to speak up. If Neteyam speaks first, Jake will know what the boy has burdened himself with. If Lo'ak speaks, he will know that the boy has the responsibility to admit his own faults.
Regardless, because none of them speak, Kiri does. She clearly wished to have the culprit, which inadvertently caused her injuries, be punished. "Lo'ak led us to a forbidden area!"
"No I didn't!" Lo'ak bites back.
"Yeah, I did." Neteyam steps forward and puts an arm in front of his brother in order to shield him from his father's impending scolding. "I convinced them it wasn't such a dangerous place."
There it was. Neteyam taking the blame. He took protecting his siblings so far, that he was willing to take the blame and the punishment for what Lo'ak did. Jake hated it, hated that he reminded him of his brother so much.
"Neteyam, you and I both know you know the dangers the most." Jake points a finger at him, "So step back."
The boy follows his instructions, but for once, not obediently. He looks down at the ground and backs off with a subtle scoff.
"Oh, so now you decide he's not to be believed?!" Lo'ak huffs, crossing his arms. "I didn't–"
"You did." Jake interrupts him, "And I need you to admit it."
"Fine!" Lo'ak shouts, "I did it! But I didn't think it would be so dangerous."
"I know that, son." Jake says, placing a hand on his shoulder. Lo'ak tries to shake it off, but he ultimately fails to do so. He settles on ignoring its heavy presence. "But you're still responsible for the consequences."
"I didn't mean for Kiri to get hurt." The boy mumbles.
"Tell that to her."
"I'm sorry, Kiri." He mumbles that too, but Kiri hears it anyway.
Though she rolls her eyes, something Lo'ak can't see because you cover her body with your own as you work away, and accepts the apology, "Fine." She hisses slightly, which Lo'ak mistakes as directed to him. The sound makes him falter.
"The two of you, listen to me." Jake places his other hand on Neteyam's shoulder, pulling the brothers close to each other.
"You should listen too." You tell Kiri. She nods.
"You should all to take care of each other, equally. That means protecting each other. Not just you, Lo'ak; not just you, Kiri," He nods in each of his kids' directions, "not just you, Neteyam. You got that?"
Neteyam nods immediately, while Lo'ak nods with a scowl and eyebrows knitted. He was displeased to be asked to act just like his stuck up brother.
"Hey." Jake shakes his son not so gently to make sure he is paying attention. "Lo'ak, I need you to protect your siblings. Because, in this world, it's not just you. It's all of us, it's this family. Your brother, your sister, they need taking care of. And if we're not there, who will do that? You. You have to."
"It's not an "if he can't do it, then I have to"." You cut in to add, "It's not a toy to be passed around. It is something you should all be doing, all the time."
"Today was just an example. Tomorrow," He gestures to the side with the nod of his head, "if things do not change, worse things can happen."
"Okay." Lo'ak nods. Though the solemn look on his face is new and different, it meant he was taking it seriously.
Jake nods too, "Good. Neteyam," Knowing that the boy will be much more affected by his words, Jake keeps it simple. "that means it's not all up to you. Don't take the fall for things you didn't cause."
"Okay." Neteyam agrees too.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Auntie Tiri loved to visit the kids. Though she knew she wasn't their mother in the family sense, she still thought of them as her own children. You weren't one to complain, much as you teased her, because it meant you and Jake could have some time of your own.
"Second time this week?" You laugh, greeting Neytiri at the entrance. "It's only just beginning, too."
"If I birthed them, I at least get to raise them." Neytiri argues. The words don't make much sense to the children, thankfully, or else you would have a lot of explaining you weren't quite ready for.
You roll your eyes and let her in. As she passes you, you walk outside. Behind you, you hear screams of delight as the children see Neytiri.
After Jake says his temporary goodbye's, he follows you outside.
He lets out a sigh of relief as the even fresher air of the outside washes over his face. "It's been a while since we got to be alone, right?"
"Just two days, my love." You remind him. "Neytiri visited two days ago."
"Hmm," He snickers, "right."
He lets out a yawn, stretches his limbs far up into the sky. As he brings them down, though, one arm not so subtly wraps around your waist. Even less subtly, it pulls you close to his side. "Wanna go for a walk?" He offers nonchalantly.
You chuckle, placing a hand a on the one he's got around you. "Sure."
The benefit of being alone with each other often was that your children were not responsibility for the tiniest of moments. It also meant you didn't have to speak of them.
But usually, as your children are the light of your life, most things end up being about them.
"Your hair's starting to dread up, love." You remark, wrapping the end of one of his locks around your finger. It was just a little strand, but the hair above clumps together.
"Ah, well, I don't have the time." He sighs, "Between Olo'eyktan duties, giving advice to folk, taking care of the kids..."
"I could braid it for you." You offer.
"I heard that takes a long time." He says, but he's done more than hear it. He's witnessed it, seen your children slouched over themselves, falling asleep whilst your fingers still nimbly worked on their braids. "Don't know if I've got enough."
"Well, we can keep it dreaded." You shrug, "Whatever you like."
"What do you like?" He retorts.
You roll your eyes. "Whatever you like to wear will be what I love, Jake."
"That's an awfully sweet," He begins slowly, coaxing a soft smile out of your lips. "lie. Too uncharacteristic of you, my darling."
You laugh. The sound is... young. It sounds young. You've known each other for seven years now, been parents for most of that time, and you've matured so much since the first time he laid eyes on you. Those laughs, ones without the worry of your children or responsibilities, had seemed forgotten. He's glad it's still there.
The conversation falters and you fall to comfortable silence; but something picks at Jake, at the back of his mind.
"Is there..." He pauses, not too sure if he really wants to mention it. He's already started, though, and he does feel as though it is something that should be talked about. "anyone Lo'ak reminds you of?"
"Lo'ak..." You hum as you think, "well, Lo'ak is his own person. He's a special kid. There's no one quite similar to him. Why do you ask?"
"He reminds me of myself. My younger self." Jake says. It was the original thing he wanted to say.
"Oh."
"Reckless, quick to jump into a fight, defensive, couldn't take the blame... I couldn't take anything seriously." He lists off things, each one putting a dampener on his mood. "A child in a man's body."
His lowering spirits were affecting yours, so you stop your walk to make sure your next words are registered fully. You take his hands in yours and begin, "Some of those things aren't always bad. Defensiveness means, well, you're protective of your loved ones. And not taking things so seriously... you can always make me happy. You can lighten any situation. As for the recklessness, well, it was always funny when you failed at some Na'vi things."
"Hey!"
"What I'm trying to say is, you're still defensive, you're still humorous in harsh situations. These are both things of your younger self and the self that stands before me." You bring a hand to his cheek and he nuzzles against it. "They are part of who you are; and those same things, they're part of who Lo'ak is. If we tried to change them, Lo'ak wouldn't be himself. All of those traits are bad at varying degrees. If we teach him correctly, he can still be himself. Less reckless, more serious, but still himself."
Much as an annoying rascal he was now, it was the Lo'ak Jake still loved, has loved for seven years. He couldn't imagine his son any other way.
Everyone loved Neteyam. It was hard not to.
Lo'ak and Kiri, on the other hand, often received many stares. It was harder for them to make friends outside of the family; harder to avoid the comments about their fingers and eyebrows. Though Lo'ak had a penchant for an argument (which had lessened ever since you began parenting him better) this was where he and Kiri agreed.
When Neteyam played with his friends, Lo'ak and Kiri often stuck together. Their differences and toy-sharing difficulties were pushed aside.
Neteyam often tried to coerce his friends to play with Kiri and Lo'ak, they were only a year younger after all, but it usually devolved into asking them why they had such funny fingers.
Jake and you often noticed it. You saw your children's awkward, uncomfortable faces. But you knew things would only be worse if you interfered. Children were often like that, picking at the little things. Just kissing your children would earn them the nickname of "sempuyä 'evi". Besides, they needed to be independent.
It was a matter that sparked concern between you.
"I was right about their differences." Jake grumbles. He subtly observed his children from above, at a high point in the village. Less people were going to spot his vigilant dad behavior up there.
"They'll make friends eventually, find people who don't care." You reassured him, but you spoke it into the world because you were really wishing for it to happen.
"Like you?" He muses.
"If you want a comparison point." You let out a little laugh.
Jake wraps an arm around your shoulder and pulls you close. Just then, a little someone breaks through the crowd of nosy kids and sticks their hand out.
Rather than judging your children or pointing out their differences, they exclaim "Wow that's so cool!" so loudly that you can hear it from up there. It warms your heart.
Lo'ak eventually found friends that actually deserved him. Kiri, on the other hand, well, the friends found her. Unfortunately, it was after that that she discovered she actually preferred alone time better than having so many people around her, disturbing her thoughts with constant chatter. So, she didn't often talk with her friends. The only thorn on her side, though, was the human kid, Spider. She tolerated his presence often. She actually even seemed to like his voice.
But while they had gotten over that problem, Jake was still worried.
☾⋆☆⋆☽
Your children had yet again become a year older. In the past year, you'd taught them all so many things. You made sure Neteyam, Lo'ak, and Kiri were all protective over each other equally; that Lo'ak learned how to control his recklessness and maintain his humorous attitude; that Kiri felt connected to Eywa.
You knew that, when you allowed them to be on their own, they would be just fine.
After seven years of taking care of your children so actively, you no longer had to worry so much. It was sort of a relief.
Naturally, though, you sort of missed it.
"I want another kid."
"What?"
"Another girl would be nice." You hum to yourself, "She'd be the cutest little thing."
Once the initial shock wears off (because you don't just mention that out of nowhere) Jake finds himself agreeing. He, too, missed coddling his children. "Yeah, she would."
"Did you ever get a copy of the picture Norm took of you?"
"Of course not." Jake grumbles. "It's embarrassing."
"Only because you make it." You snicker, booping him on the nose. He responds by scrunching it up and flinching back. "I think it's rather cute."
"I only think Kiri was cute." He wipes his nose. "We can talk to Neytiri and–"
"I want her to be yours."
"What? But–" Jake shakes his head profusely, his eyebrows knitted together. "I can't have another kid turn out like... like me."
"Five fingers and eyebrows?" You ask.
"Yes." He replies immediately. "I can't have her be... different. Lo'ak and Kiri, they struggled to make friends because of their differences."
"You know that Lo'ak made his own friends."
"It took time." He argues, "Don't you remember his face, every time he came back home? It was horrible. In fact, he asked you to pull him onto your lap and kiss his cheeks over and over just for reassurance. Which–"
"Which he asked for because he loves me, not because it's uncharacteristic of him." You say, implying that Lo'ak loves you more.
Jake rolls his eyes. "I don't want to see another kid go through that again. I just want another normal kid that'll make friends flawlessly."
"There's nothing wrong with being special." You take his hands in yours. His hand was only bigger because of his extra finger, which wraps around your hand. You bring it up to show him, "Nothing better with being normal."
"Why... why can't you do it, then?"
"Because," You begin, smile lighting up your face. "even you still haven't gotten over your differences." Jake looks away. His silence to the accusation is as much of an answer as affirmation is. "This child will be proof that your differences don't make you any worse than a regular Na'vi. Because you are on of the people. You are the Olo'eyktan. You are one of us."
"How do you know?" He grumbles, but he was starting to believe you. "Did Eywa tell you, or something?"
☾⋆☆⋆☽
With Tuktirey, you couldn't be any happier.
And she came out, as promised, with four fingers and hairless browbones.
She was a pudgy little thing, and everyone loved her. You could see it in their eyes and their smiles that the kids loved her at first sight. Their toothy grins would grow even wider when they each got to carry her; even if Lo'ak nearly dropped her.
Though she couldn't even speak and hardly babbled, you could tell that you would come to love her.
You held Tuk in your hands, laying your head over Neteyam's legs. He made for a bony pillow, but you loved him so much you could get over it. Jake hugged Lo'ak with one arm. Kiri was sprawled horizontally over the both of you, her head laying on your stomach. Your muntxatan nuzzled his nose into your neck as he spoke, "I met your sempu while I was training."
"He fell from the tree branches onto the mud at my feet." You explain less graciously, causing an uproar of laughs from each of your children.
"Ah-ah," Jake breaks up the mocking laughter, "you say it's like Eywa sent me to you, no?"
"Okay, fine, I guess." You roll your eyes playfully.
Jake laughs. You can feel the deep rumble of vibrations going through his neck against your shoulder. "It was love at first sight."
☾⋆☆⋆☽
ᴍᴀʏʙ'ꜱ ɴᴏᴛᴇ 2: it's a cute prompt, of course, could fulfill it with headcanons, however I wanted some Lo'ak and Neteyam struggle + scared father Jake - one of these scenes (if you saw it, you know the scene) was made using the dialogue of this incredibly fucking cute fanart. It's just Lo'ak instead of Neteyam here. - I made Jake a better father because his kids deserve better
FLUFF FIC IDEA
Tumblr media
Imagine ftm!reader explaining to Neteyam what it's like to be a trans man and explaining how he, ftm!reader, dresses more masculine to feel like a cis man. Few days later and Neteyam comes to ftm!reader with a gift, a chest band! Neteyam made ftm!reader a chest band since most na'vi men wear it and Neteyam thought it was a good idea to make ftm!reader one to wear it and feel like a cis man!
Imagine:
Catching Lo'ak and Neteyam
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Request: Yes or No
~~~
Stalking through the brush, you watched the yerik graze on the grass. You carefully stepped through the forest, staying light on your feet just as your mother had taught you. You slowly reached back to grab an arrow, pausing when the yerik lifted its head and surveyed the area. You held your breath, remaining completely still until it lowered its head and began eating berries. Your fingers wrapped around the wood of the arrow but movement in your peripheral caught your attention.
"Be quiet!" A hushed voice hissed and you narrowed your eyes, rising from your spot and approaching the tree. Your tail lashed around in irritation and in one swift motion, you yanked the smaller Na'vi out from behind the tree. He yelped in surprise, effectively spooking off the yerik.
"Why are you following me?" You questioned, holding the younger male by his throat and pushing him up against the tree.
"We didn't mean to distract you, (Y/N). We saw you leaving and- and I was curious." Neteyam explained, glancing between you and his brother. You turned your glare onto the eldest Sully child, ears lowering and frown deepening.
The tension between your family and the Sullys had remained for years. Your mother blamed JakeSully for the death of her beloved mate, Tsu'tey. The pain of losing him to war had fueled her anger but she contained it for your sake, keeping her hate hidden behind glares and murmurs.
"You-" Looking back at Lo'ak, you sneered. "-are going to get your family killed one of these days."
"(Y/N)-" You released your hold on Lo'aks throat, watching him touch his neck and cough softly. Neteyam winced and frowned, reaching out to touch his brothers shoulder.
"You're impulsive like your father." You pressed two fingers to his temple, pushing his head back. Lo'ak grunted, shoving your hand away.
"The hell's your problem?"
"Walk it off, Lo'ak." Neteyam advised, earning a scoff from his little brother but nonetheless Lo'ak turned on his heel and stalked off, smacking away leaves with his hands and tail.
"You didn't have to act like that." Neteyam sighed, watching his brother leave before he looked back at you.
"You cannot keep taking the blame for your brothers recklessness, Net. Someone has to teach him about consequences. If we are to become mates, he'll become my brother so-"
Neteyam grinned. "If we become mates? Starting to have doubts?" He asked, stepping closer and tilting his head. You couldn't fight the smile that crept up on your face.
"Never." You replied and Neteyam leaned forward, lips brushing against the white freckles coating your skin.
"Better not." He murmured. "I worked hard to win over your mother."
"And yet, she still dislikes you." You laughed and Neteyam grunted, a heavy sigh escaping him. Your hand found his and you gently pulled on it.
"Come hunting with me."
Gifs aren't mine.

Eclipse
Tumblr media
Pairings: Neteyam x male Omaticaya reader
Summary: Neteyam tells you that his family is leaving the Omaticaya.
Warnings: angst.
👴🏾 I put my blood sweat and tears into this idk if I like it yet but my youth has been evaporated. Enjoy!
You soared through the sky on the back of your Ikran. Embracing the wind with closed eyes and open arms as it rushed past you and through you with mighty force. You loved flying as much as you loved hunting. Neteyam flew beside you chanting out in excitement his voice echoing through out the hallelujah mountains.
You liked how carefree he was right now. Especially after what happened with the sky people and his younger siblings; he’s been on edge ever since Spider was taken. You tried to reassure him. You would tell him that you would get Spider back, that this time everyone was prepared, this time they would be more careful but he still worried it was in his nature. You knew his hesitation; you understood what it was like to be the eldest son- to be the keeper of your siblings. The instinct to protect and care for them overtakes you.
You took whatever you could get; this was the happiest you’ve seen him in a while. Not overthinking and just enjoying the time you two spent together. You could tell that something has been bothering him for the past few days though. Something more than the event with the sky people. You could see it in his eyes- the way he avoided looking at you, the way he would subtly flinch at the sound of your voice, or how he hasn’t slept peacefully in two days. Every time you tried to bring it up he would avoid the question. Find something else to do or quickly run to his fathers call.
“Wooo!” Neteyam cheered you smiled at his smile.
“Aye Ye Ye!” You chanted following Neteyam as he nose dived down closer to the ground riding in between the trees.you both weaved through the branches testing each others speed and agility.
“Race you back to the top!” You challenged Neteyam nodded with a playful glint in his eye as he zoomed up with his Ikran before you could even blink.
“Cheater!” You shouted attempting to catch up; your ikran screeched as you directed her up. She was just as competitive as you were craving the win. You could feel her pushing every muscle in her body to speed up. She easily whipped through the forest dodging all obstacles you faced on your descent like she knew every detail and what came next.
“Come on girl.” You mumbled with encouragement earning a hum in response you could see Neteyam on his way to the top almost at the finish line you laughed as you blasted past him in the last stretch to the top of one of the floating mountains.
You dismounted breaking the bond between you and your Ikran in a matter seconds Neteyam appeared behind you with a gust of wind.
“You cheat and still lose.” You tease watching him dismount walking towards you. Neteyam rolled his eyes
“I let you win.”
“You keep telling yourself that.” Neteyam sat a few feet from the edge of the cliff he watched as you made your way over to him but your eyes were else where.
“Wow..” you trailed captivated by the view in front of you. Your face bright with delight ; even though you have lived here all your life the scenery never ceased to amaze you. Everytime you could only stop in your tracks and stare.
“Sit. Watch the eclipse with me.” Neteyam spoke softly tapping the space next to him; you sat with no hesitation arms brushing against eachother. You rested your head on his shoulder you liked the sensation of his skin on yours, his warmth melding with your own.
Watching the eclipse was a thing you two did often- a way to get away from everyone and spend time alone. Of course you loved hanging out with Kiri, Lo’ak, Spider, and Tuk but sometimes you wanted it to be just you and him. The first time you planned this Lo’ak and Kiri were flying with you but Neteyam caught your mischievous eye with a simple nod as if he understood, both of you raced off. Once he found this spot it’s been where you would meet each other for months. Perfectly secluded and quiet, to the both of you it was special- sacred almost. You would never tell a soul about it and neither would he. A home away from home where you and Neteyam could be yourselves.
You took his hand in yours playing with his fingers the quiet overtaking you both. Even your Ikrans had a special bond they rested atop eachother behind you two. maybe it was fate all along.
“Even after so long nothing can distract from her beauty.” You admired in a mumble.
“Not even me?” Neteyam joked as if offended you snickered.
“I have plenty of years to admire your beauty.” Neteyam squeezed your hand he fidgeted his eyes drowning in guilt when you looked up at him.
“Ma Neteyam..” you called for his attention crawling into his lap and straddling his hips; blocking his view as the darkness started to overtake the sky. “Tell me what is wrong.” You pushed his braids back behind his ears while staring directly into his eyes, your hands placed on his cheeks he had no where to turn it was now or never.
“My family is leaving.” He spat out like poison but still you could see the burden slowly release from his shoulders. The burden of finding the right way to tell you he held his breath- waiting for your reaction but you were caught off guard.
“Leaving?” You repeated in confusion. “Leaving where?
“Our home, our clan.”
“What?” You pulled away Neteyam could clearly see dread forming in your eyes. This is the face he was afraid of seeing the one that made him want to defy everything he believed in just for you. He didn’t want to hurt you. The image of your exact expression stained his mind for nights as he wrecked his brain trying to figure out how to tell you; he’s been avoiding you for this reason. He knew he couldn’t handle it.
“Don’t you see? The sky people are after us. They already got Spider. You will be in danger if we stay.” He tried to reason.
“I’m a warrior. I can defend myself and I will fight with you.” You argued “Your father is Olo’eyktan his duty is to our clan.”
“Listen to me.” He pleaded reaching out for you “I have no choice.” You dodged his hands increasing the distance from him. Your heart was pounding against your chest you two have already- what will happen now. Everything that could go wrong drowned your brain, tears swelled in your eyes just the thought of being away from Neteyam was enough. You didn’t want him to see you like this.
“I’ll go with you.” You stated with a shaken tone you failed to conceal. You tried to put on a mask of strength but Neteyam saw right through it in a second. He shook his head refusing your offer, he prepared for this exact moment over and over but nothing could have prepared him for the real thing. Your face, your reaction, your tears. Each drop like a knife tearing through his heart; he wanted to hold you, to kiss you but you wouldn’t let him. Every move he made you mirrored it.
“Your family-”
“You are my family.” You interrupted. “Tell your Father and Mother that we have already made the bond.”
“They’ll kill me if they found out about us.”
“I can’t sit here while your fighting for your lif-”
“I don’t want you to get hurt!” Neteyam burst your eyes widened like he was stupid.
“And do you think I want you to risk your life?!” You shouted back. “You’re mine Neteyam. I will die a thousand deaths before I let you leave while I do nothing.” he growled frustrated at your stubbornness; your will to throw your life away just to save his.
“What about your brothers huh? You’re the only one who can teach them.”
“Thats not fair.”
“Your father trusted you to teach them, to take care of them.” Neteyam finally got a hold of your hand slowly pulling as if coaxing you towards him. “Like you, I do this for my family. If we leave we will be safe and you will be safe.” Your ears lowered in submission you were back in his lap; forehead pressed against his, the dark sky lighting you up like the stars.
“When this is over I will come back for you.” His voice low and gentle but firm. A flare in his eye with an abundance of determination this was his promise to you. To himself.
“When I am worthy I will tell my family what you mean to me.”
“You promise?”
Neteyam nodded kissing you softly. Slowly. Lingering and holding on to every last drop of your essence. His grip around your waist tightened and yours around his neck. This will be the last kiss for a long while. The last time you can feel his warmth. The last time he will hold you until his return. Unsure of when that will be you savoured this moment as much as you could. Kissing him over and over, memorizing his features, his voice, his breath on your skin. You shared each others touch. your lips danced until you lost track of time.
You were scared for him and his family; you loved them as your own. Your relationship with the Sully family was deep you also knew how strong willed they were. Together they were an army of their own.
“Goodbye Kiri, Lo’ak and Tuk” you hugged them all Kiri cried into your shoulder “I don’t wanna leave.” She confessed you struggled to hold in your tears. You hugged her tighter before letting go. You could see Lo’ak shaking- fighting against his bodies will to cry.
“I’ll miss you.” Lo’ak admitted
“I’ll miss you too.”
“Thank you for taking care of them.” Jake spoke firmly Neytiri agreed with an approving nod they saw you as their own but you weren’t theirs to take. Neytiri gazed down at you lingering for a moment, her hand reaching for your face before she pulled it back turning away suddenly soon they saddled up on their Ikrans.
Neteyam was the last to appear slowly as he dragged along, neither you could get any words out in fear of breaking down right then and there.
“I’ll see you again.” He declared to you in a solemn whisper you nodded. A bittersweet smile pulled at your lips you knew nothing would keep him away from you.
“Neteyam.” Jake called Neteyam obeyed getting on his Ikran and off they went. Just like that. It was painful to watch them fly off into the distance it was like an incomprehensible portion of your heart was ripped out with them. They played a huge role in your life and you in theirs. You watched as they flew away, when the crowd dispersed you stayed as long as you could. Neteyam looked back. You caught it from so far away, a turn of his body it was almost like you could feel his emotions. A longing gaze as the distance between you and him grew larger. A silent goodbye. One last look and he was gone. Far beyond where your eye could see.
You went to your secret spot everyday. You kept your promise to him,you taught your brothers every shred of wisdom you had in your brain. They were naturals just like you; born to fight and excelled at it. You were confident they would make fine warriors one day. It was the same routine everyday train and wait, train, wait. An endless cycle that you couldn’t wait to be over
There was news that the sky people were dealt with for now. Blown up. Sunken. Killed. So why hasn’t he returned yet. You grew restless with each eclipse that had passed. Did he like where ever he went so much that he forgot about you? He must have found someone else. Someone better. You still returned to that spot each day like clockwork . You lost track of time; watching hundreds of eclipses over and over days seemed to blend together. You pushed everyone away. Even the relationship you had with your brothers was wearing thin. Everything became difficult after a while and eventually you stopped trying.
You waited and waited rain or shine; staring at the same sky for hours. You’ve grown to hate Eywa’s beauty. You hated her empty skies it was the same everyday, no matter how much you begged, pleaded, and prayed it all seemed to fall to a deaf ear. You could never give up though your heart wouldn’t let you. The looming desire to be in his arms once more hung over you like a dark cloud. Your heart would never let go it wasn’t built that way. no matter what anyone tried to say or do it would never be enough.
You accepted the fact that he forgot about you; it was better than the other thought you had in your mind. The dark thought that plagued you. It was easier to hate him than to mourn him. So you let your hatred grow and fester with each passing day the worse it would get. Your relationship with Neteyam went unknown to everyone, no one would ever know how much he meant to you or how much it hurt when he left and you never dared to utter a word. You were alone, it was your fault anyway. You accepted it. Maybe even liked it that way.
It all meant nothing anyway. The day he left you was the day everything went dull.

Hii could you maybe write something for human! M!reader who comes out as trans to neteyam?
Tumblr media
IDENTITY ;; NETEYAM
summary ;; just a few heacanons about reactions, tips, comments and validation from neteyam!
pairing ;; neteyam x human!trans-male!reader (platonic + romantic)
warnings ;; i think there's none ??
word count ;; 0.8k (with bonus)
a/n ;; you didn't specify what type you wanted this (neither hc or os nor platonic or romantic), so I'll do headcanons with these last two because i liked the idea, if there's something you didn't like, please go ahead and tell me!
Tumblr media
PLATONIC
✦ Neteyam knew you since probably before the return of the humans. Your parents were scientists in favor of the na'vi and decided to raise you in Pandora in the company of some na'vi children where Neteyam was.
✦ Now, we must make something clear, and that is that in Pandora there are several words that are of human term. And for example, "trans" would be one of these.
✦ Neteyam could tell that you were starting to dress differently, talk differently, but he didn't question anything because he simply respected your space, but when you commented to him how you felt- no, how you identified, he cocked his head to one side.
✦ "That… What does that mean?" but his confused smile only made you imply that he would support you independent of its meaning.
✦ When you explained the term to him, how it was seen on earth and according to what your parents had explained to you (which in a good way they also accepted you the first time you talked to them), he seemed to understand a bit more.
✦ So he began to give you some ideas of clothing to make you feel more attached to the Na'vi culture (if you would like that idea) or simply, helping you to stylize you more, even sometimes trying to accompany you to train to define your body a little more if you wished so.
✦ If I'm not wrong, the culture's clothes are always supposed to be made by friends or family, since they come with a symbolic load and Neteyam as, for now, he is the one who is more informed, has decided to give you from time to time clothes that he thinks would fit you.
✦ In case you wanted to clarify this with others of your friends Neteyam would be the first to correct the feminine terms to masculine.
✦ "He, Loa'k. Reader is he".
✦ In a platonic way, you can expect a lot of support from Neteyam and truth be told, identity is not an issue in his culture and he will do his best to understand you, even asking others how to help you a bit more.
Tumblr media
ROMANTIC
✦ Now, in a romantic way, Neteyam takes it a step further.
✦ Yes, the story is the same and when you gave him the comment he questioned what it meant, but quickly and not to worry you, he gave you a hug and put both your foreheads together.
✦ "I don't understand much… but I want to help you feel good in your own skin."
✦ So he looks for answers from some scientists, from his father, from some of your human friends and all to find out how to get you to feel comfortable.
✦ If you want to cut your hair, he will style it. If it was already short, he'll try to decorate it a bit like some of the guys have (BONUS: but Spider and Lo'ak will be there too).
✦ If you want to change your appearance, he'll do his best to cover your chest area and in case you've already done so, he'll remind you to be careful not to hurt yourself.
✦ Interesting fact, but in Frontiers of Pandora, Okul is possibly a non-binary character (Tsu'kiri too) that despite having a female model, has a male voice and I have the hc that there must be some way to alter the testosterone for the na'vis so Neteyam would travel by sea and land looking to know if you could get an avatar (that already has the biological change) or simply, know if there is something to help you in your human form.
✦ His family is quite respectful of you and have stopped treating you with feminine pronouns as soon as you and Neteyam confirmed them (Sometimes Lo'ak gets confused, but apologizes as if he shot you in the stomach) and although in the village there may always be someone who questions you, Neteyam will jump to defend you as a human and as a man.
✦ Finally, as a partner Neteyam is not much different from his platonic version, but I can tell you that he will love you unconditionally and will do his best to make sure that the way you see yourself is not a hindrance in your daily life.
Tumblr media
BONUS ;;
"Wow, what about this handsome guy, is he busy?" you heard Neteyam's voice entering the lab. You turned around with an amused look and raised your head, looking him in the eyes.
"Just busy trying to convince Norm to get Spider and me Avatars" you admitted, giving a sigh as you folded your arms. He noticed that despite the smile you gave him, you didn't seem to look so good and he knelt down, kissing your cheek.
"Do you want to talk about it?" you wanted to, but your throat wouldn't give words, so he hugged you. His body hid yours lovingly, as if you were a crystal about to break, as if you were the last precious stone in all of Pandora.
"Maybe they can't get an avatar yet. But we all know who you are. Your personality, your essence, your identity… none of that is based on your body. I see you, my love."
Tumblr media
a/n² ;; i THINK i understood what you meant, so i tried to do the best i could. although i am from the trans umbrella as a gender fluid person, i personally am very oblivious to certain behaviors that i know other people may have, but I hope you liked it, if there's something you didn't like, please tell me, love ¡!

May i request some neteyam x male reader fluff? Maybe just both of them floating around on an ilu watching sunset? I'm honestly so thankful because all i've seen avatar x readers are usually fems, so thank you for that! ^^
-🐟
Neteyam x M!reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: none, except for an oblivious neteyam
Pronouns: he/him
Summary: (___) and neteyam watched the sunset together when (___) decided to confess his feelings
A/n: heyy, sorry it took a while. There might be some grammar mistakes, sorry for that
Tumblr media
Neteyam tries to peek through his blindfold but was met with a slap on his wrist "Ow!" He exclaimed, rubbing his wrist.
"No peeking." (___) said, neteyam groaned and held (___)'s waist tighter "fine but are we atleast there yet?" Neteyam asked, (___) hummed "mhm, be patient" he said and giggled a bit. Soon after they stopped moving.
"Alright, you can take off your blindfold now." He said, after he said that neteyam took off his blindfold and was met with a beautiful view of the sunset "wow.." (___) chuckled at the sight of neteyam in awe. (___) can't help but stare at neteyam, he tooled notice of this a raised his none existent eyebrow "what? Is there something on my face?" He questioned, (___) shooked his head and said "the sunset matches the color of your eyes and you look really cute." unexpectedly making neteyam's face turn purple and giggled "jeez, you always have a way to suprise me do you" he said trying to hide his face using his hands. Both of them continued to watch the sun set when neteyam decided to ask something "why did you take me here?"
"This is the spot I always go to see the sunset and the sunrise, I wanted to share this moment with you...and I want to ask you something" (___) hesitated to say it but neteyam encourages him to continue "what's the question?" He asked.
(___) sighed and gained confidence, "Neteyam, for the past few months I've had this weird feeling in my stomach whenever you're near me or when you try to talk to me. You always fluster me with little to no effort without you noticing, and it's honestly cute" he said, neteyam turns purple because of the blood going up to his face because of how flustered he is but he is still confused on what (___) wanted to tell him, (___) took noticed of this and pinched the bridge of his nose because of neteyam's obliviousness.
"Seriously you don't know what I'm trying to say-Neteyam I'm inlove with you." (___) spilled the beans and neteyam was shocked from the confession, he didn't even noticed that he was staring (___) too long without answering "helloooo? Yam-yam, don't leave me hanging without an answer you're making me worried" Neteyam finally snapped out of his trance and blushed from the nickname (___) gave him "I like you too! But I was too scared to tell you because I thought you only saw me as a friend" Neteyam said, "Yam-yam, I literally gave you multiple hints that I like you. I gave you a kiss on the cheek before." (___) said with disbelief from neteyam's obliviousness.
"I-I thought that was a friendly kiss on the cheek!" Neteyam defended "Neteyam, who would kiss their friends and then consider it only as a friendly kiss." (___) and neteyam was playfully arguing about his obliviousness not noticing their group of friends spying on them.
"About damn time he confessed, I was about to spill the beans myself" lo'ak said, Tsiyera & kiri giggling at the statement. "...Lo'ak if your brother ever breaks my brother's heart I will rip you guys into pieces" Aonung threatened even though he didn't like the idea of the sully kids dating his brother, he accepted it since it made his brother happy. "The same goes for yours" Lo'ak replied.
