#net juu no susume next
Oh also, wotakoi still good. There's something nice about a lowkey romcom about adults. One where we get right to the dating and where none of the couples feel perfect, but circumstances led them to being together. Even the main couple feels like they're sometimes just together because they're good friends and suck at romance, but they've got those small moments that show that that's kind of the right thing for them. Also, just nice to have adult nerd characters. None of this adolescent bullshit. We're now adult otaku who feel authentic because we've embraced how our hobbies are going to make us feel like children forever.

yo! i was wondering, what anime are yu watching this season?? are there any that your planning on writing fanfic for??
Out of the stuff that are airing? Well …
- Mahoutsukai no Yome
- Osomatsu
- Blend S (it’s trashy but the girls are adorbs)
- Net-juu no Susume
- Juuni Taisen (animation is fcking AWESOME)
- Black Clover
(CONTINUED)
- Ballroom e Youkoso
- Boruto
I have plans to write one for Ballroom and Osomatsu. But since it’s so early in the season I’m not quite sure of any others … I have a feeling I’ll write something for Black Clover and Boruto. But probs after Black Clover has got more episodes or I read the manga and with Boruto there isn’t anything good to write on yet, maybe when they aren’t legit kids with no interested in relationships (I mean, they're younger than Naruto when the start of the og series began so.  . .)

Considering I watched a frankly ridiculous 58 anime from last year, I thought I would put it to somewhat good use, so
My Top 10 Anime of 2017 with comments on each:
Tumblr media
10. Onihei
A bit of a dark horse for the year as I actually don’t think I saw ANYONE so much as mention this show. It’s definitely one of the darker titles on my list, bringing up torture, murder, and rape very early on, but overall it was very enjoyable. Being an episodic show, it was interesting to see what it would bring each week, and the historical setting and style of narrative filled the hole in my heart left by my #1 show having ended in the previous season.
Tumblr media
9. Children of the Whales
I loved this show right from episode 1, with its very intriguing world building, very likable characters, and absolutely gorgeous art style. The show only got better as it went on and was extremely interesting all the while. I’ve also talked a bit previously about how, despite having very different plots, the themes and narrative style reminded me quite a bit of No.6. This was definitely an underrated show for the year and the only reason it’s not higher on my list is due to its “wait for season 2” ending.
Tumblr media
8. Inuyashiki
A bit of a surprise entry. Despite my general love of sci-fi, I really didn’t expect to like this show due to my knowledge of the author’s previous works and I initially completely wrote it off my watch list entirely. This wasn’t helped by most of the opening episode being VERY depressing, but the show quickly picked up, taking the story in a much more hopeful direction. The morally grey antagonist was really interesting to watch and all of the action scenes were fantastic. The only things really lowering this were that the characters felt one-dimensional, the plot was a bit predictable, and the CG used for the mechanical scenes was quite conspicuous, but those didn’t hamper the show from being really fun overall.
Also I fucking love the opening.
Tumblr media
7. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka
Another mostly episodic show, ACCA was largely really fun due to how varied the episodes could be. There’s not a lot to say about it as it was quite simplistic, but the characters were all wonderful, the overarching plot was interesting to watch unfold, and everything came together very nicely at the end. As well, the show had a great soundtrack and was just very fun and relaxing to watch.
Tumblr media
6. Seikaisuru Kado
I wanted so so so much for this series to end up higher on my list, I really did, but unfortunately it suffers from a frankly horrible last episode, ye be warned. It had some of the best 3DCG animation we’ve seen in anime thus far (emphasized by the fact that it aired on the same day as the butt ugly Berserk 2017), stunning visuals, and an EXTREMELY well done plot... except for the ending. I LOVED this show while it was airing, constantly marveling at just how pretty and thought provoking it was and also just how much I loved Yaha-kui zaShunina as a character. I really do recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi. Even with its unfortunately glaring flaws, it’s a masterful little piece of work and one of the best of its kind.
Tumblr media
5. Net-juu no Susume
The only comedy on this list, but possibly one of my favourite comedy anime period. Net-juu was INCREDIBLY enjoyable and every week I jumped to watch the new episode as soon as it was out. The characters are absolutely lovely and I’ve talked a bit in the past about how I love the show’s very “gender doesn’t matter” approach to romance, featuring not only a married gay couple as side characters but also the protagonist being heavily implied to be bi. The only thing placing this below my next entry was the somewhat lackluster final episode, which was by no means bad but didn’t feel quite as grand as I would have liked. I really hope to eventually see a second season of this, I would love to see more of these characters.
Tumblr media
4. Girls’ Last Tour
A very understated show, Girls’ Last Tour didn’t really lend itself to a lot of big moments but instead was more about appreciating the small things. Despite being an apocalypse story, it was very peaceful, cute, and relaxing to watch, with the two lead characters being a joy to see bounce off each other. Ironically, this felt more like my much loved 2003 Kino’s Journey anime than the Kino remake we saw in this same season. The ending as well was phenomenal, closing things very nicely and honestly bringing me to tears.
Tumblr media
3. Boku no Hero Academia 2nd Season
Honestly need I say more, HeroAca was easily the biggest anime of this year. What I will say was that this season definitely brought the series into its own for me, as I enjoyed the first season but didn’t really think much of it. THIS season, however, grabbed my attention and demanded it hold my interest. I’m heavily looking forward to season 3 and I fully expect it to make me emotional.
Tumblr media
2. Houseki no Kuni
MY LOVE, MY LIFE, currently one of the series I am absolutely obsessed with. I love all of the characters to pieces (pun not intended), I love the series’ handle on the topics of trauma and mental illness, and the animation is absolutely stunning, being hands down the best 3DCG anime PERIOD, only aided by the beautiful hand painted backgrounds and excellent cinematography. Even after reading the manga and knowing what was going to happen, I was constantly refreshing the page every Saturday just YEARNING for the new episode to be available. The anime as well did a great job bookending what is hopefully only the first season of what is undeniably a masterpiece.
Tumblr media
1. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
I’ve been saying it since the first season came out two years ago and I’ll say it again here: PLEASE WATCH SHOUWA GENROKU RAKUGO SHINJUU. I absolutely ADORE everything about this show, from its premise to its characters to its cinematography to its music to its absolutely heart-wrenching ending. The first season was my best show of 2016 and, after how much I loved that, I really didn’t expect this second season to not only meet the same level of quality but to surpass it. Every single episode of this show left me a crying mess, actually AFRAID for the next week’s episode to come out because I knew how much it would kill me emotionally and how much I would love every second of it. One of the best shows I have ever watched, anime or otherwise. Please watch Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

It’s already a month into the new year, and here’s the forecast post, finally. XD Well, I’ve been busy, and also ‘cos I happened to end up watching too many shows from the previous season (some of which I’m still struggling to finish) so I haven’t really managed to settle down to organize stuff. I’m posting this also ‘cos I have an announcement to make.
Having said that, welcome to all my new followers, I hope you’ll enjoy the content here. As always, thanks for all the likes, reblogs and follows. ^^ Jumping in... Touken Ranbu Hanamaru and YowaPeda S4 are airing this season, so there’ll be more content here... BnHA (and SnS) are coming next season so there’ll be more stuff to hype them and attract more interest. On a side note, aside from Kekkai Sensen, I really enjoyed Net-juu no Susume last season, so I’d recommend that to anyone who games and likes the romance genre involving older lead characters (aka non-teenagers). If you like(d) it, you should check out Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii, which is coming out next season.
On the manga side of things... Raws are popping up late (maybe ‘cos of the ongoing crackdown in Japan), so I’m only able to share stuff when people share the raws. As such, I’ll be stopping my chapter summaries for Daiya, since the scanlators release the chapter before I even see the raws. I’ll still post color pages whenever they come out though. (On another side note, since Batoto’s closed down, it seems a large number of scanlation groups have moved to mangadex.com so you can check that out for your ad-free manga fix.) All series that I post about with ongoing manga are still plodding on as usual, so same old, same old. I’m gonna guess Neverland will be getting an anime announcement within the year given how many awards it’s won recently, and how it’s getting more popular. I am still waiting for more information on the upcoming YOI movie, and Tsurune, and confirmation of when OPM S2′s coming out... As for Haikyuu!! S4... Given the trend of announcing the new season after recap movies... We might get an announcement this year, I hope. XD (Sugawara’s seiyuu was on hiatus for most of 2017, so it’s pretty understandable they wouldn’t announce S4 until they could confirm him (unless they wanted to recast him) but now that he’s back in Japan and will be voicing someone in an upcoming movie, I guess all is set.)
Late, but may 2018 be another year with awesome anime and manga for all of us to enjoy~

Net-juu no Susume ch 62 - 67
So I already posted a summary about what happens when Sakurai confesses he’s Lily, but in case people didn’t see it, I’m re-posting it below :)
Tumblr media
[SPOILERS for episode 9/ Ch. 62 - 67 below cut]
Here’s what happens after Sakurai confesses that he’s Lily. Just FYI, I only read Chinese at an elementary school level, so while I can get the basic gist of things, this may not be completely accurate :)
Basically in chapter 62, Sakurai confesses to Morioka that he is Lily, and Morioka of course is shocked, telling him she can barely wrap her head around it; it’s pretty much the reaction he expects, so he tells her he’s sorry for having lied to her, and that now that his secret was out, he would do the right thing and retire from the guild.
Morioka begs him not to retire, and tells him, “You said we’d be friends forever, right?!” She insists that she still wants to play with him. He eventually agrees, but he tells her he doesn’t have as much free time now because work is busy (he got promoted). He walks her home and waits outside her apartment while she goes upstairs; then she sticks her head out the window and calls out his name. He turns and she waves at him, saying, “Please, if you have time, play with me again!” He tells her he will.
Tumblr media
Of course, Sakurai doesn’t log in. He’s still feeling lonely and awkward about the whole situation, and even the guild is starting to notice his absence. Koiwai notices that Sakurai is more gloomy than normal, and talks to Morioka, telling her that Sakurai is his precious friend and that if she knows why he’s feeling down, she should tell him what happened. He tells Morioka that Sakurai isn’t feeling well and that she should visit him.
SO. Being the great wingman that he is, Koiwai convinces Morioka to visit Sakurai at his apartment; she brings him snacks and pudding and intends to just make a quick stop to drop off food, but then Koiwai pretty much pushes her inside, gets Sakurai to make them coffee, and then bails (”I have stuff to do! BYE!!”), leaving Sakurai and Morioka alone in his apartment.
They sit awkwardly around the table, Morioka on the couch and Sakurai and the floor, and Morioka is all, “Do you want to sit next to me?” and Sakurai is like OMG YES PLS. But then he gets awkward and he’s like, I feel like I can’t have a conversation with you because I can’t see your face, and then Morioka’s like, OH, let me sit on the floor! And she moves to the floor and Sakurai’s just mortified, like, omg you’re a guest, you shouldn’t be sitting on the floor! and he joins her. But then they’re both like, what are we doing? and there’s nervous laughter and they drink coffee and blushuu everywhere.
Tumblr media
Then at one point Sakurai asks if she plays other games besides MMOs, and Morioka checks out his computer. She sits on the chair and is like, “This is Lily’s chair!” and “This is Lily’s keyboard!” and when she moves the mouse she sees Sakurai is logged in already as Lily. Kanbe sees he’s online and messages him (”Long time no see.”) Kanbe keeps messaging him, and Morioka calls over to Sakurai, who looks over her shoulder. He accidentally taps his chin to Morioka’s head and freaks. It’s adorable.
Tumblr media
By the end of 67, Sakurai’s lends Morioka some games, their relationship is back on track (Sakurai having confessed he’s Lily but still not his feelings for her), and Sakurai is back to playing with the guild.
Sorry for the re-post, but it looks like a lot of people missed the original post and are dying to know what happens (I know I’d be XD) which is why I’m posting this again. I’ll post what happens after chapter 67 later :)

Story
When Yuta Hoshitani was in middle school he came across a high schooler dancing beautifully with the insignia of the musical department of Ayanagi Academy. Now, that Yuta is in high school he continues to hold admiration for that high schooler and wish to one day meet him and perform together with him. Thus, on his way to become a member of the musical department of Ayanagi Academy he is met with four other student named Nayuki Toru, Tengenji Kakeru, Kuga Shu,Tsukigami Kaito. Hence, each share their own inspirations and reasons for joining Ayanagi Academy. So, will Yuta ever meet his role model? There is only one way to find out which is to join Yuta on this metaphorical climb up this inspiring story of trial and error.
Tumblr media
Review
Starmyu...If I had to use one word to describe this anime as a whole it would be inspiration. I really fell in love with majority of the characters besides Akatsuki Kyoji. I was very annoyed with his actions in the first season and how he treated Otori and Otori’s chosen team which was blame in association. To think he would not give Otori’s team a chance to become something great Ugh! Well I understand now that he only wanted Otori to not run away. But there are other ways of doing that and using his team against him is not.
Furthermore, I would have to recommend that if you do watch both seasons of Starmyu please Please! watch the ova associated with the season because you would feel less confuse at the beginning of season two. See I usually watch all the main episodes first before I look at any ovas because I noticed that normally ovas isn’t really impacting the main story that much. However, in the case of Starmyu it leads you into the next season so that you have an understanding of what's to come.
So you can imagine when the second season started and the other members was baffle of the fact that Yuta didn’t remember that Otori and the other senpai’s was graduating was a little like ok how would he know because there was no mention in the last season. Though little did I know it was mentioned and addressed in the first ova. So don’t do I like did and binge watch through to the second season without looking at the ova. Also, be prepare for a lot and I mean a lot of walking away (i.e. looking at Otori’s back as he walks away from situations. I’m sorry...I can’t count the number of times Otori or even other characters who just walked away when a certain situation doesn't suit them.)
Tumblr media
Now, I got to mention this as a fellow fushoji. I haven’t felt this true connection between two characters in a while since Yuri on Ice with Victor and Yuri. Thus the connection I am talking about is between Otori and Yuta especially in the second season. Everytime they shared a screen together it was just so cute and adorable. Gosh...Yuta was acting like a school girl with a crush everytime he came in contact with Otori.
Another thing is you know that their relationship is not meant to be taking out of contexts like Victor and Yuri’s relationship. But you just can’t help it when there are little hints here and there. Man...I didn’t squeal so loud in my life (expect with Victor and Yuri) when Otori join in the dance with Yuta and the rest of the members of Stardust. It was just so beautiful and just...right. I can’t wait to see what Starmyu has instore for us in the future.
Tumblr media
So, for similar animes to Starmyu. I would say Uta no Prince sama, Yuri on Ice, Shounen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 49 and 50, B-Project, and Magic-Kyun! Renaissance because of the inspiration to become something more than just a “normal” existence.
Similarities
Inspiration
Role models
Entertainment world(i.e. music, idols, acting, and modeling)
Friendships
Hints of yaoi
Lead male characters doubting their worth
Teams/Groups
High School
Dark past/undertone
Tumblr media
Recommendation
Therefore, I recommend Starmyu for those who like a story that is filled with inspiring feelings of the development in character’s dreams and hopes of becoming a better existence (or number one).  Thus, Starmyu will be a good pick for you if you want something very similar to Uta no Prince sama, Yuri on Ice, Shounen Hollywood: Holly Stage for 49 and 50, B-Project, and Magic-Kyun! Renaissance.

Fall anime that make me say “I can’t wait for the next episode” I can say that I watch a lot of anime every season, but of course, there are anime that making us say it's good! or Ah! I hope I watch the next episode already or making us search the manga (though others don't have) I know it's late for this list. However, it's making me feel like I want to do this. (lol) So here's the list: — Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara [10★] Of course, who won't like this series. I mean, from the start, it has been good. Characters are love! (Seiyuu too) You can learn how to cook too (lol). You won't get bored because it's funny too. OSTs have always been good. Conclusion: Everything is good about this show. — Just Because [8★] I actually don't know what to say about this show. However, I like it. Maybe because of the genre (slice of life, romance, and not fantasy, since almost all the anime is fantasy). But I like the story too. I may compare it to Tsuki ga Kirei, but I think I like that more than this. It's making me think about what will happen next? Oh yes, she finally noticed him. Something like that. So, I'm looking forward about this show. — Net-juu no Susume [10★] Game. Just like Gamers!, Netoge, or other game related. However, I think this is great. Why? It's not like others, a student, playing games. Yeah, the main chara is a neet, but still, there is something going on between real life and MMO life. It's not like others, young/teens falling in love, playing games, but they are working. Though the Moriko is unemployed. I look forward to every episode. Like, I can't wait to watch the next episode! I looked for the source, but it's a web manga. And it's hard to find, for me. So overall, I like the story, characters, sound/music, and art. — Ballroom e Youkoso [9★] Continuation of summer anime. Just like other sports anime. Main chara is a novice, and then other characters, who are good, will look at him and be their rival. Something like that. However, I think again, this is a good show. I enjoy watching this. It's fun actually. Characters is ♥. OP and ED are good! I always play it in my phone. (lol) — Blend S [8★] Fun to watch, slice of life, different attitudes. That's it! However, this is good! — 3-Gatsu no Lion 2 [10★] I don't know but I like this show. (lol) Story is so good! You'll know everything in the story, I mean, the main chara, Kiriyama Rei, thoughts, reactions, etc. And of course, other characters too. You can feel characters' emotions. Heartwarming. Music is a plus! Seiyuu are good. ♥ I can't express my feeling with words about this show. (lol) But this is really a great show.

Fall 2017 Anime First Impressions
And so here I am again, three weeks late because I can never keep up. Fall 2017 thus far doesn’t seem too, too bad, but I’m sure that will change, considering the multiple original shows on my watching list. Luckily there’s plenty of cute girls doing cute things shows, which is all I need, really. As usual, here’s what I’m watching, with MAL links and original shows marked: Osake wa Fuufu (MAL) Starting off with a short show this time. Osake wa Fuufu follows a wife, Chisato, and her husband, Sora. Sora likes making drinks, and Chisato likes drinking. Match made in heaven, if you ask me. The show even includes drink recipes depending on the featured drink, and a food pairing with it. It's a three minute show about a cute, drunk wife. What's not to like?
URAHARA (MAL) Taking a sharp departure from the calmness of Osake wa Fuufu, URAHARA involves three fashion-loving Harajuku girls saving the planet from aliens. This show is Harajuku personified. Everything from the character design to the OP explodes with a bubbly, colorful atmosphere, wrapped up in a beautiful watercolor aesthetic. ORESAMA's fantastic brand of electropop is the exact cherry on top the art style needed. Rito is the skateboarding, soft-spoken girl with demon horns, Kotoko is the peppy blonde kemonomimi, and Mari is the twintailed idol who also owns the clothes shop the girls work at. After aliens sucking up cultural landmarks appear, an American girl wearing a talking fried shrimp shows up, gives them "physical manifestations of imagination," and they promptly transform into magical girls and fight the aliens, making them explode and turn into donuts. Sure, that made no sense at all, but everything's so colorful. Capped off by a similarly bubbly ED, this show is just outright fun. If it stays about three cute girls happily fighting fashion-stealing aliens, I'm in.
Dies Irae (MAL) Just as an FYI, Dies Irae aired an episode zero prequel, but I've waited until the formal episode one before doing any impressions, seeing as the prequel was a complete clusterfuck anyway. Now then, after the prequel involving Nazi supermen, Dies Irae's main series cuts to the future and the protagonist Ren, a solemn oft-hospitalized teen. Plenty of mysteries abound - a sudden murder, a strange vision at a museum, a runaway friend, a girl calling him Cagliostrio in a dream - interspersed throughout an otherwise thoroughly boring slice of life. Following that, the episode alos teases plenty of the insane bullshit the prequel was few of. In one line, one character drops 5 proper nouns we have had zero interaction with, with the off mention of one name from the prequel episode. Foreshadowing is fine; introducing three characters in the span of 15 seconds and then talking about 5+ more of them is a bit much. The art is nothing special, and the orchestral soundtrack is unique enough, but if the prequel was any indication, this show is going to get insane, really fast. And not insane like the fun, rollercoaster ride kind. More like the trying-too-hard, unnecesarily edgy, impossible to actually follow kind.
Net-juu no Susume (MAL) Ah, the MMO spin on the isekai genre. Net-juu follows Moriko, a NEET woman living alone who devotes her time to playing a guy (Hayashi) in an MMO. She meets with an amazingly cute girl, Lily (who later we see to be a guy IRL), and they start adventuring together. Cut to 70-odd levels of grinding, joining a guild, and an upgraded PC later, Moriko/Hayashi has settled in just fine. First off, Lily's VA is the fucking cutest, holy shit. My reactions about echoed Moriko's anytime she was being cute. Other than that, the first episode was surprisingly sincere. Relatively light on the "MY REAL LIFE IS ON THE INTERNET!!" in favor of Moriko just being more of an awkward, lazy video game nerd. Using video games to not have to deal with real life is nothing new, but the heart with which Hayashi/Lily meet and grow in just one episode impressed me. This could go either way, and I'm hoping it stays a interesting vignette on the trials and tribulations of the two lives Moriko lives.
[ORIG] Just Because! (MAL) Next up, Just Because sees Eita Izumi returning after four years to his locale's high-school, reuniting with people he lost touch with. The first episode sees a wonderful moment of return, as Eita practices with an old baseball friend, leading the practicing band to strike up into the chorus they played at games, seeminginly on their own. The trumpets flowing into the full orchestral matches the rising tone perfectly. Juxatposed with a Photography Club facing termination and a former class prez buried in obligations, a web of connections lies in wait, ready to reaccept Eita. The art is quite muted, and even with complaints about the hot weather, the sun is behind clouds and the cityscape is grey, as opposed to the beating sun we often see. Just Because's first episode, while not telling much, showed plenty, and indicated what the main issues would be and who would be involved, and that's exactly what a first episode should do. If an original work is showing that early on, maybe it has more direction than most - and that's a very good thing.
[ORIG] Two Car (MAL) Sidecar racing is something I haven't seen, for sure. The island of Miyakejima, with its uncontrolled speed limits, is home to famous sidecar racing, or "kneeler racing" competitions, and the show follows the endlessly arguing but amazingly similar local team of Yuri and Megami. A bouncy pop soundtrack plays over the high-speed racing, creating a light yet competitive tone that perfectly fits the colored visuals, featuring the same artist/production company as Masamune-kun no Revenge from a few seasons ago. Discord has cropped up between Yuri and Megumi due to their beloved coach leaving for greener courses and the feelings they had for him as he left. The cuts between the high-speed raising and the melancholic, reflective flashbacks does quite well in explaining their movements throughout the race - catching us up to speed, so to speak. The tone of the show comes across perfectly as the episode closes, backed up by the fantastic soundtrack and beautifully done OP and ED. You just feel this show is time spent on an island, split between relaxing and racing. It's wonderfully done. It remains to be seen if this show will echo others like Minami Kamakura and Bakuon and go really into the mechanical aspect of sidecar racing. However, this show is a surprisingly emotionally-based piece where emotions are expressed on the race course - and I'm interested in more.
[ORIG] Animegataris (MAL) Minoa is our orange-haired, ahoge-sporting protag, called out by the school princess Kamiigusa to talk about anime, of all things. Go figure. Coming off the trash that was Gamers last season, the blonde perfect girl actually being a huge nerd is already tiring. Minoa is looking for the name of an anime that moved her as a kid, and to do it suggests to get the anime club back in action, then promptly gets roped into leading it. Her endless optimism isn't original but it's always refreshing, and the use of anime to let Minoa see "more of Kamiigusa's faces" is a bit better than just having the red face of a normally "perfect" girl besmirched by the recognition she likes anime. Also there's a huge-headed cat and a somehow magical beret, which came out of the blue just a bit. We get a sneak peak of the future members, ranging across all archetypes and social cliques, and then the magical beret comes back and the cat now talks. Interested to see where the hell any of that goes, but if this stays more comedy and less Gamers romance-misunderstanding bullshit, I'll be satisfied. Also, both the OP and ED (especially the OP - GARNiDELiA is so good) are great. Some very strange plot choices, especially worrying in an original work, but if they pay off this will be enjoyable. Let's just hope they do.
Mahoutsukai no Yome (MAL) Backing off the slice of life, Mahoutsukai imagines a modern day world intertwined with fantasy - beastmen, magic, and the few humans who can see it - one of them being Chise Hatori, ostracized for her power until she is bought at an auction by a legendary mage, Elias, who aims to make her his apprentice. Chise is actually a "Sleigh Beggy," a rare being that attracts "faries and mysteries," whatever that will eventually entail. Mahoutsukai thus far gives off a kind of Uchouten Kazoku vibe as Chise moves into Elias' tranquil house. An ostensibly normal-looking environment inhabited by mystical beings, and a duality of calmness and turbulent themes below echo Uchouten's politics. The juxtaposition of the forcible buying of Chise versus the welcoming environment she is brought in creates an interesting dynamic that I'm interested in seeing played out. The animation is beautiful, and the small switches to a more chibi style aren't disruptive in the least. Aside from some confusion about the initial setup of the world, if this show becomes a magical slice-of-life with even a fraction of the heart of Uchouten, I'm in.
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (MAL) Two girls in old-school fatigues, cruising around a cold, apocalyptic, industrial wasteland. Sounds cool to me. Chito is the collected, tired foil to Yuuri's galavanting, charismatic self. The animation is a bit divergent, in that while the landscapes are detailed in their greyness, the art of the two girls echoes something like Hidamari in its style. While initially strange, it didn't become anything more than just "noticeable." The muscial backdrop is a flowing, airy tone that fits well with the girls having fun praticing shooting or walking around looking for supplies. The music and the attitudes of Chi and Yuu create an atmosphere to the point that doesn't feel like a depressing, sober look at war. Seeing it through the eyes of two children also puts the concepts of war and conflict in eerily simple terms, providing a new look at a concept done to death, so to speak. There's a strangely relaxed feel despite the landscape and color scheme. It remains to be seen if this will go the route of Made in Abyss, especially with an out of place scene at the end of the episode, but while MiA was fucking phenomenal, I could do with less bawling two seasons in a row. This is a strange one, but the simple story of Chi and Yuu trudging across the snowy landscape is appealing.
Konohana Kitan (MAL) Cute fox girls working at a traditional Japanese hot spring hotel? I'm in. Yuzu is the nervous newbie, Kiri is the charismatic head attendant, Natsume is spunky and atheletic, Satsuki is responsible to a fault, Ren is the doll-like one whose personality doesn't match her cute exterior, and there's the diminutive, quiet Sakura. The personalities of the girls are varied and interplay nicely, and I look forward to seeing how Yuzu fits in. Moreover, the art is fantastic. The character designs echo perfectly the individual personalities, and the landscapes of cherry blossoms are stunning. I personally love the traditional Japanese aesthetic the inn and surrounding town embody, and it obviously fits well with the fact that the girls are all kitsunes. Konohana seems to me like a slightly less energetic/comedic Urara Meirochou, which is a good thing. The aesthetic is great, the girls are cute - this is a show for healing, and I need it.
Blend-S (MAL) Maika, a perpetual job hunter with her naturally scary eyes, finds her home at a cafe where all the waitresses are archetypes, as the sadistic one. Blend-S is almost like a more overt version of the varied personalities in Working!, with all comedy and less romance. I quite like the juxtaposition of the girls' normal personalities when talking to each other and their work personalities (especially when the line blurs). While usually its a cute girl who's actually evil or something and used as boring shock value, being the point of the show pivots the concept into a new way I enjoy. Even moreso, Maika especially has plenty of quirks that bely her role as the "normal" main character. The art is clean and sharp, and the girls have great character designs - I really like the facial designs. The OP, by the VAs (which is always a plus), is fantastic both in design and music, and compliments the more relaxed ED (which is also by the VAs). Overall, this show is friendly and the girls are cute. Sounds good to me.
Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken (MAL) Adaptations with stock character protagonists and plenty of overt fanservice.  Yay. I'm amazed this isn't from an LN, because it is exactly that kind of show. Shobitch begins with our MC Shinozaki confessing to Kosaka, which she accepts. Then she learns "how to be a good girlfriend," which far more often than not involves plenty of fanservice. Also, despite him having a girlfriend, there's a whole variety of other girls interested in him - the childhood friend and imouto get ticked off the list int he first six minutes. On the bright side, the art is great. Character designs aside from the protag are varied and well-drawn. Kosaka's earnestness with which she wants to be a good girlfriend is endearing in itself, but the 100% focus on sexual themes is just a bit tiring. Sort of like how Kuzu no Honkai went from seriously emotional to reducing any character motivation to "the only way I can be loved is physically." Regardless, you know exactly what you're getting into with a title like this show. There are some genuine emotional moments, but they are few and very far between. Otherwise, Shobitch is a well-drawn yet bland ecchi definitely-not-LN adaptation.
Inuyashiki (MAL) Last but not least, adding to the limited action slate I'm watching this season, we have Inuyashiki. Inuyashiki is, for lack of a better term, strange. It begins with nearly all CG, but then transitions to a mix of normal animation and CG for the rest of the episode. The first half of episode one is one of the most solemn, depressing sequences I've seen, and that's blown away by a whirlwind of aliens, body-swapping, and mechanical bodies. While the tonal shift is quite jarring, the change wasn't anything completely incomprehensible. The problem will be where this will go, now that Ichiro, our man with months to live, is now equipped with alien technology. I'm hoping that within the mix of action there will be a sense that Ichiro, now unshackled by sickness, can make concrete steps to make his life better. While the action shots were nice-looking, and the CG actually doesn't look half bad, with how emotionally powerful the first half of episode one is I want to see more of that as well. Either way, Inuyashiki has my attention, and I'm eager to see where Ichiro goes.
