in the middle of reading nana visitor’s book on women in star trek and i’m in shambles . i’m in shambles

she details in chronological order the women casted in star trek, their individual experiences and hardships as well as their marks left on audiences

the section detailing her own experiences as kira as well as an actress had me very emotional,,, i never knew the amount of things she endured + the infinite love she has for her character really adds context for her incredible performance in ds9

I gotta say, having Jake and Nog blundering through classic video game side quests in a desperate attempt to make money in the background of Kira coming to the horrible, crushing realization that she is the government sure was a choice.

I’m watching a tragic old black and white film that should by all rights have me in tears, but some unhinged person has set it to the Yakety Sax soundtrack.

I love Garak and Kira because their characters are like... Yeah, trauma doesn't make you a better person. Sometimes trauma just makes you a bitter, caustic individual filled with regret and self loathing. That doesn't make you any less worthy of care or healing or community. It's not the trauma that saves you, it's community and being given the love we were denied. Pain isn't virtue.

Do I think the residents of DS9 celebrate Christmas? No. Did I want an excuse to draw them giving presents to each other? Of course.
