I'll have you know that it is entirely your fault that I downloaded Choices and entirely your fault that I played all three books of The Elementalists in the past three weeks and really I am very grateful because it's been really fun and indulgent so yes. Thanks for posting all the stuff with Distant Shores and TE and Blades because it gave me something really fun to do during a very stressful move!

Omg omg I’m so happy you played it and that you enjoyed it! I’m new to TE but yes DS and Blades are so so good too. Blades is like top tier choices IMHO

Oh hey from the au with you, that we’ve been calling Thomas Warren Sex Club Party for months. (...8 months. Almost 9. The hell?)

Warren’s response is immediate and it comes with a not at all subtle touch of Alex Reagan’s other cheek. “Forgive me, Mantle. I had assumed that our taste in Doors had matched. After all, they are so very lovely for us aren’t they? So very willing and eager to please.”

Before Richard can do or say anything, Alex’s eyes shine forward with nebulas swirling within them: stars and births and deaths of galaxies reflected in their darkness. Without thought or care for the way that Richard wrapped his coat around her, Alex’s arm darts out from the opening of it and her closed fist slams into Warren’s nose with a resounding crack that makes the assembled cult gasp aloud. There’s blood on her knuckles as Warren just falls to the ground almost in slow motion. 

“You didn’t pick me, Warren.” Alex’s voice is low and furious. “And neither did Richard and I am fucking tired of you two acting like I’m some sort of prize in whatever dick measuring contest you’re having. Tiamat picked me. Before either of you were ever born.”

Alex just steps closer to Warren, her tiny, naked frame looming over him, the stars etched in her skin. “And she’s pissed at you, Thomas. She’s pissed you’ve squandered her gifts playing petty mortal games for power. She’s pissed that you tried to claim what isn’t yours. And she’s going to show you just how pissed off she is. I wouldn’t want her that pissed off with me.”

Bending over, Alex picks up Richard’s jacket and drapes it over herself before she announces, making sure that there is no way anyone is going to stop them. “We’re leaving now.”

Are you comfortable writing in public places?

Absolutely. I know that no one cares what’s on my laptop! Wow. I miss writing in public places...

What type of writer’s block do you experience the most?

So when it’s not ADHD-based (which is... a lot), it’s usually whenever I reach a point where I don’t get to write the “fun” bits, and have to write things that get characters to the next scene or the next “fun” bit. I always fear my writing will sound just as unexcited as I am, which leads me to not writing :((((((

So what's the most magical place in the Seattle area, for you? I moved out to the PNW from the Midwest, and while I was only in Washington for a few months before moving down to Oregon, there was still such a distinctly different...I dunno, feel? to the land out here.

There is a HUGELY different feel, yes. I moved here from Michigan so I definitely know what you mean when you say there’s a different energy to the land. The one here is much more foresty, ancient. The one in the midwest is younger and full of fields.

Any area full of trees is going to get that going for me.

Ooh, ooh, #25: Who needs more assurance?

Oooh. This is going to sound like I couldn’t make a decision, but I genuinely think it depends on the situation and overall ends up a draw. Richard needs no assurances that he knows literally everything, all the time. (I exaggerate. But only slightly.) If you told him to go teach a class on something complicated he’d never heard of I think he’d probably be fine. The man managed to get two doctorates while juggling the raising of a small child as (I assume, for a time) a single parent, he’s got this.  On the other hand, by the time we meet him in the show, he’s a person who’s had a lot of loss and a lot of pain and has done a fairly good job of cordoning it all off so  he can function. As a result, to me, I think unwrapping any of that enough to be close to another person again is going to necessitate some consistent reassurance (and patience, lbr). Alex on the other hand needs the barest hint of an interesting story and just runs full tilt at it. She’s demonstrably good at her job, which involves talking to people she doesn’t know, and not just talking to them, but getting them to open up. And she’s excellent at it. She’s good at making people feel comfortable so they confide in her and tell them their stories. You could put her at a party where she didn’t know anybody and I think she’d have five new ideas for a show and probably more than one new friend at the end of the night. For the most part it’s Nic questioning her methods and ethics-- she doesn’t question them herself (for better or worse), she doesn’t need assurance that she knows what she’s doing. But that’s not to say that she wouldn’t in a different context-- flip their roles and ask Richard to do the interviews with people he’s never met and ask Alex to go teach a class on some obscure topic and they’d both be uncomfortable. Which is a lot of people, really, and I like that, because it makes them believable and fun to write! 

That was a lot of nonsense rambling, probably, but thank you for sending me this ask!!!
